Best Chinese in Cobourg.

Big points for friendly staff, clean kitchen and reasonable prices on the menu. As for the food on our first visit we ordered Pad Thai, Veggie Lo Mien and General Chicken on a Monday . If I m being honest the Pad Thai was disappointing with overcooked noodles and very little ingredients past the noodles, very little chicken and no egg or scallions. The Lo Mien noodles were outstanding but the dish featured very little past the noodles. The General Chicken pieces were mostly batter and just. Meh. I m hoping to improve our rating on a second visit down the road.

I ordered a soup & a Singapore noodle for dinner. The soup was a good size for the price, but it had no taste. The Singapore noodle was quite small for the price, and also had little to no taste.

Ive never been so happy to stand in a long line for food as I do at Wok & Roll. This place is BUSY and it is obvious why. Fantastic food, good value for the portions, and the service is always excellent.

Quick food and great quantity and good service

Visited Wok & Roll last week and was shocked when I was told there is a surcharge to eat in . I think the surcharge was 10%. I had placed an order of 3 item from their menu which would have cost Above $40. When I was informed of surcharge because they had to cover costs of plastic utensils and paper plates I canceled my order. And walked OUT. There were customers eating combo platters. I could not believe a restaurant would have a surcharge for eating in. I have been a customer for years always on take out ( Which they supply utensils in bag) . Sadly I will not be back again. And I would not not recommend this Restaurant to go to.

First time trying this place tonight, it was all so delicious we ordered mixed veggies, chicken fried rice, chicken and broccoli and vegetable low mein. It was a last min birthday dinner too, thank you we will be back

Just a last update to my update for Wok and Roll restaurant. Last week I encountered a very strange surcharge for customers wishing to dine in at the Wok and Roll Restaurant in Cobourg Ontario. If customers order combos from the Steam table there is zero surcharge. Note Combination platters cost $ 14.85 each. When I ordered 3 items off the full menu which would have total $42.40 I would have pay an additional 15% surcharge to dine in. But if customer orders items from full menu they will have a surcharge of 15% added to their bill. This would cost me $6.36. To me this discriminating customers who send more money at this establishment then customers who choose a inexpensive meal (combo) when I posted my review of this policy I received the below email response. from the owners : Wok & Roll replied to your reviewThank you for posting a review on Google. Ordered dinner this evening and everything except the egg roll and spring roll went in the garbage after one bite . Lemon chicken - dry and rubbery , no extra sauce . House special fried rice - bland taste , no seasoning what so ever and used frozen vegetables . Beef with broccoli - beef was so salty we couldnt even eat it , had to spit it out ! Won ton soup - no flavour , tasted like watered down dish soap . Egg roll and spring roll - delicious ! Probably the only thing they didnt make on site . Dinner was over 75 dollars for 2 ppl and was inedible .

The owners and some staff were very ignorant and pushy after I had bought $100 worth of food.. Also when I came to pick up my food the chefs were coughing and sneezing their pans. Ive been here for years and after what I saw this is the last time Im coming. Instead of grabbing a Kleenex and blowing their nose they were just shooting it onto the floor like Animals . My husband and I were very worried because of what we saw Was not what any restaurant would do and when I confronted the owner lady she told me she didnt understand what I was talking about. Where our order was ready after everything we saw we decided to take our business elsewhere. Absolutely disgusting Someone needs to call the food control board on these people. My goodness Ive never seen anything like this. Animals. This is Canada not the Third World country

Please make sure whoever is cooking the rice does it right! The chicken fried rice needs way more seasonings. It tastes like plain rice.

Had the Cantonese mein and chicken pad thai. Perfectly cooked, vegetable were fresh, meat was well made and of good quality ( not boiled till no life in it) and marinated/ prepare perfectly. Shrimp were perfectly cooked and a lot larger than a a toonie. I ordered ahead, and take out pick up puts me to the front of a long line up.

Recently ordered for take out and the chicken balls and egg rolls were terrible. Contacted them and explained the problem and they said everything was cooked perfectly. Will never order from them again.

Very busy on New Years Day, but worth the wait!

Good food, but why is it closed everytime I drive by? They open up at like 3, and they shut down at like 5 or something because every night I drive by, its closed. I want your delicious food!! Open up from 3-10!!!!!!! Weirdest business hours in the history of business.

UPDATE to my review after owner response. I was polite in my review and asked you not send the usual snarky responses I ve read you typically send. Not a good look for you or the business. I asked you to take all reviews constructively to get the business back to the level it was. You stated we work hard and don t deserve this criticism and do not return . You are in business and therefore subject to reviews and criticism. It doesn t matter how hard you say you work. The product and service was substandard that day when I got my order. We ve bought from you for a long time and were quite happy but something is very wrong now. As you mentioned you only had 4 staff on so maybe that s the reason? I don t know. I gave you an honest review. No elaborating. You mentioned you will need to increase prices if add more meat you said. I just want to know if 5 pieces of chicken in your chicken fried rice is normal ? Your business already makes a good profit on dishes that consist mostly of cheap rice, noodles, sprouts, celery, carrots, onion snd zucchini. There already is very little cost with amount of meat inside hefty batters. Only you know why and what has changed. I m just telling you I noticed. Got 5 small pieces of chicken in my metal tray of chicken fried rice. 1 ONE Package of soya sauce and 1 ONE package of plum sauce. ZERO fortune cookies. Big chunks of chicken in Guy Ding but dry as popcorn. Why soooo dry?? Sweet and sour ribs totally dry with a wet sauce on the bottom. Not enough to coat the meat. The soo guy was soggy. Ewwww. Why??? I believe hours are now only 9-3 but you seem to want to keep making huge dollars by getting cheap, cutting corners, making people wait and wait. I understand you need prep time to make noodles, rice, cut chicken etc but obviously you are short staffed. The food taste and prep and care has gone down hill. Please step it up folks if want to keep customers. You want customers to come back so please step it up. Instead of snarky responses to our reviews? Please take the criticism constructively and make changes. There seems to be some common denominators here reading the bad reviews. Your stuff WAS good. Something has changed.

I no longer go to this restaurant. The staff is often rude, They seem overworked. They have a buffet table where the food sit out . If you order a la carte they often fill your order with food from the buffet table. I asked the owner and she said this never happens but I have seen them do it. Their prices are outrageous. I found another place that is only serves freshly made food and they are about 18$ cheaper on a dinner for 3. Oh and they are friendly as well!

I have to say I dont really like leaving this Review Unfortunately, I really do like the food, but. I have to say standing in line. Waiting to get food from the steam table for 45 minutes. When there is only 3 people in front of me is way too long. I watched 1 person the other day. Get 5 meals and empty the steam table. So then we all had to wait for new food. It is not something that they let you call in order ahead of time. But if there was 5 people standing there waiting to get meals, I would have just came back later. I just think that there should be restrictions to 2 meal per person or something. So that the other customers arent standing there for 45 minutes. Sorry just a suggestion but I dont want to stand there for that long anymore. I thought that was supposed to be the quick option. Still really like the food, but not worth the wait unfortunately.

Response to owner: When I told you I will be dining in why did you refuse to serve me in a plate? When I tried to take metal fork why did you stopped me and said I can only use the plastic forks? Who gets to use the nice metal forks then? Was I not a paying customer? This is racism and I will be taking this matter to my lawyer. I suggest you look into the Ontario Human Rights Code! Original post The young woman with tattoos should be dismissed! She informed me that she couldnt serve the meal on a plate because she had already started transferring it into a plastic container. Additionally, when I attempted to take a metal fork, she stated that it was reserved for those dining with a plate. This situation is incredibly shocking, and I cant help but perceive a hint of discrimination.

Firstly, rude service. If the customer is being polite and tells you what their order is, you shouldnt have an attitude toward them. I asked for a dine-in plate and the employee responded that I could just have a take-out container, even though I was eating in and the rest of the group I was with were given their food on a plate. The food is overpriced and was extremely salty and oily food. Employees look like they hate their jobs, tables were dirty (customers shouldnt have to clean up before they sit down) and plates werent clean. Not coming back thats for sure! Save your money and go get some Chinese food somewhere else. This tastes like mall food.

My absolute favorite place to eat. Whenever Im in the area, I must stop at Wok & Roll. The staff / owners are always super friendly and not afraid to load up your plate. The prices are amazing for the amount of absolutely delicious food they generously dish out.

I love this restaurant! Been coming here for years now! Always great food, lovely woman that works the front (owner) she is always super friendly and greets with kindness. Usually the only time I can stop by is on my way home from work and its close to closing time and I never feel like I am a burden because I stopped in so late. I would like to thank them so very much for all the great food, may or may have not gained a few pounds lol! Thanks again!

Good food a little slow

I want to start by saying I really enjoy the food and the staff that work here. The owner is a lovely lady who puts so much into the business. The portion size is plentiful, so much so they will often ask you if thats enough or would you like more:) I will say however that lately Ive been getting a little frustrated with the wait. I quite often will just go their and order from the prepared food as I am visual when it comes to Chinese; and like I mentioned the staff are great. However, The last time I was their I waited 40 min to get served; which is great for their business but not so much for my increasingly hungry stomach or patients. I think there comes a point when you stop answering the phone and look after the customers that are right infront of you. This is why I rated it a 4 star and not a 5!. I would suggest that if you are wanting to enjoy their wonderful food you should order ahead.

Worst sesame chicken I have ever had, in Canada or the US, egg rolls are filled with nothing but bean sprouts, every element of the combo meal was terrible. I would definitely not go back.

Honestly the food was good other than their pork ribs. They were dry and chewy. Sesame chicken and sweet and sour pork were great. But the service was terrible. The Asian lady serving me gave me attitude for no reason. Was on her phone while there was a lineup. And then when the food was ready I asked for utensils and asked for fork and chopsticks, she asked what I would prefer trying to give me only 1. So I asked for chopsticks. I got the chopsticks but then she reluctantly wraps up a fork and tosses it my way. Will not be going back.

Fantastic food polite staff very clean reasonable prices

Last night I stopped at the Wok & Roll, for a quick, take out meal. Though the menu is limited, the Owners do an excellent job presenting the most popular, Chinese Dishes. Food trays are set up Buffet Style and the Server fills your take out container, with whatever choices you make. In addition to their dishes being very tasty, their prices are quite reasonable. The young girl who served me was very cheerful and was more than generous with the portions she provided. I highly recommend that you try Wok & Roll, for a quick and inexpensive dinner.

Great food but why are they closed so much now justlooked there only open mon Tues next week when I looked couple days ago they were open Thursday to Sunday not now why closed?

Owner was very nice. However, one of the servers was extremely loud and aggressive (borderline obnoxious). She kept saying certain things were not available, only for the owner to later explain that the items I wanted were not on the lunch special menu and were done to order. At no time did we state that we wanted the lunch special. We just knew the dishes we wanted, and were more than willing to wait and pay the full price. The portions were quite small and I left in a pretty bad mood.

To be honest, the food wasnt that memorable. It was ok, I suppose but I was very hungry. However the service was pretty bad. There was a young lady behind the counter who was rude and at first I ignored it because we all have bad days. However she just kept getting ruder and more annoyed at the fact that we were asking questions about the menu because we were confused about how it worked. If I wasnt so hungry that day, I honestly would have walked out. Towards the end an older lady began to attend to us and she was so nice and patient with us.

Absolutely love this restaurant and will always recommend to others! Every time we order our food is noticeably hot & delicious, accurate to order, filled to the brim and the staff really are just wonderful. Even if I m unsure of what exactly I am ordering for others, or if they re incredibly busy, the staff are always kind, understanding and just above board! It took over an hour to get from the front door to the food selection and order. They had 1 person serving all the walk in take out orders which is the largest part if their business.

They are so hardworking but the chicken balls were not good, tough but batter not cooked enough. Rice was so so but noodles were great!

Food was okay. Place was busy and the staff werent really dealing with the line of customers. Got mad at a customer cause she didnt want anything from the steam table, told her to go over to the side to order. She said oh I didnt know that. Kept going back and forth yelling at each other about what to do in the kitchen etc. Was yelled at not to eat in the restaurant despite the tables and chairs. I was waiting for my mom to get her food. Measly portion size in a combo 3. As we were leaving the boss was then yelling at staff to stop just standing around doing nothing. Wouldnt return.

Great take out box meals

I love the food here, it s my fave around, but man is it ever slow to get served. There should be at least 2 people running counter and 1 on cash on Friday and Saturday evenings. I hate complaining, but I came in at 5:45 pm on Friday night, I get it s busy and I m understanding of that, but I waited in line for 35 minutes just to get served (there were 6 people ahead of me when I got here). Also this is like this every time I come in, so it wasn t a one off. Again, great food, but expect to wait a while.

My favorite Chinese restaurant but I wish their hours were better. Open for lunch and open Sundays. Maybe close Monday and Tuesday?

Wok and roll is one of the worst Chinese restaurants I have eaten at. Coming from Toronto and many more are coming, they should REALLY up their game. So if you want food saturated in soya sauce, dig right in!! If you want authentic give up or go to at least Markham. I give all the other Asian restaurants in the area the same rating for same reason!! Shrimp wonton soup with noodles and bbq pork is just a dream!! But the place is spotless!!

We have ordered many, many times from wok and roll and we were told tonight it would be a $7 delivery charge for a 2.4km drive. When I tried to ask why and explain that we werent out of town I was hung up on. Sadly, we will never order from here again.

Fast friendly and great food ..and.lots of it

One of my favourite Chinese food restaurants, and the best one in Cobourg. I recommend the Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, Sesame Chicken, Chicken Balls, Sweet & Sour Pork, and the Won Ton soup. I appreciate that the food there is not terribly greasy and can honestly say that I have never gone into a grease induced food coma following a meal there (which I think is common at many Chinese Food restaurants lol). Also, the restaurant is always spotless.

Hands down the best Chinese food restaurant in Cobourg, and I know because Ive tried them all! Their ingredients are always super fresh, the vegetables are crisp and colourful and the meat and seafood are delicious. I also love that you can go in and order individual combo platters if you dont want to get a big family sized meal. The staff are so hard working and pleasant and I will continue coming here for as long as theyre around.

Ive only tried the shrimp pad thai so far but it was delicious! The staff were very kind as well. Definitely will be back to try other menu items!

I had the unfortunate instance of dealing with this business tonight. I ordered a simple order, chow mein and egg foo young for delivery. I received egg foo young, and chop suey. Simple mistake, chop suey and chow mein are similar. We called them to correct them and request what we ordered. Big mistake. They told us that chow mein is actually chop suey, and that chow mein doesnt traditionally contain fried noodles. Chow mein quite literally means stir-fried noodle. They proceeded to argue with me, that I should have ordered lo mein instead (not fried, but the same kind of noodle). Chow mein is in fact on their menu. I reminded them that everywhere else, chow mein has noodles. I received a packet of dried egg noodles, to which they said was my friend noodle portion of the dish. They did not budge on this, and simply argued the entire time. I decided to hang up and eat my chop suey, cause it wasnt worth the hassle. They called me back! They said they would bring me lo mein but for next time if I want chow mein I am to request lo mein instead, despite chow mein being on their menu. I received attitude the whole time. I couldnt get a word in edgewise. I advised them that for next time, chow mein and chop suey are not the same. (If they were, why are they named differently on your menu?) The woman on the phone responded with Im Chinese, I think I know what chow mein is and HUNG UP on me. I work in customer service, have for 5 years, and this absolutely made my jaw drop. I received attitude, argument, and harrassment after ending the call, and then talked down to for reminding them what is on their own menu. Person-to-person, yall, buy chinese from anywhere else. Absolutely deplorable service, forgoing the main rule: the customer is always right! If you want to be left shaking in anger, go here. The food was ok, I didnt trust eating it after the sheer venom I received. After such childish behaviour, I would not put it past them. Watch out. (Oh, and what I ordered what more expensive than what I actually got.)

Was absolutely terrible food tonight. This was the third time ordering. Definitely not horrible the other two times but not terrific. Tonight was absolutely disgusting. Chicken balls were uncooked and doughy. The vegetable lo main had no veggies, very chewy overcooked sesame chicken and no flavor on the rice. Red sauce container only 1/2 full and no fortune cookies. Thought I would give it another shot but wont anymore

My go to great food

Wonderful fast and friendly service, and a clean restaurant. Ordered Chicken Pad Thai for take-out and it was a solid 7/10. More of an Americanized rather than the traditional style, which is expected. Could have used some green onion, veggies, and tofu, but the chicken and noodles were still tasty with medium spice and I enjoyed it. Great portion size and value for the price. Overall was good and I plan to order again.

The woman working the day we went in was very sweet and had great customer service. My kids got their food and sat to eat but mine had to be cooked. I sat for the entire time my kids are and when they were done I checked on what was taking so long for my meal. They had forgotten to make it. I had to wait again for them to make it and had to leave and wait the 40 minute drive to have my dinner. When I was there the woman apologized politely and took my phone number and said I would get a free one next time I came in. When I got home it wasnt what I ordered. Their pad Thai was spaghetti noodles and it didnt taste like pad Thai at all. The next time we went in it was an another woman working.who was extremely rude. I mentioned the free one and she said no free one. You got it last time you were here, it was just late. I mentioned that I didnt get what I ordered and she said it is pad Thai you just dont know what pad Thai is. I have had it many places and am well aware of what it is supposed to look and taste like. She told me to try something else instead and I walked out. Terribly slow/forget to make your food, very rude and go back on what they say they are going to do and if it was pad Thai that I got, their pad Thai is not pad Thai.

Never again. The woman behind the counter was so rude and disrespectful that she left me in tears. Its busy, I understand but please do not yell at me because you can get your orders straight. We were consumers for a long time. Always trying to support the local business especially during tough time like pandemic but what I got today was nasty and humiliating. All we wanted to do is to make sure Wok $ Roll continues and does not loose the business. Sad.

Loved the food! We ordered for the first time last week, after our dentist is right next door) and were super surprised how good everything was.(after reading some of the other reviews) It took.a while until we could pick it up, but all restaurants are super busy at the moment. We will definitely go back!

We initially called and asked about delivery to Dale Road, the lady who answered mentioned that they did do it, we said we would call back with an order. When we called back, the young girl who answered the phone had a slight attitude and was very standoffish. When time for payment came around, they mentioned they did not have a portable debit machine, which is inconvenient, especially in times of contactless delivery and trying to reduce the usage of cash. They also do not accept Visa Debit cards. Delivery was fairly quick, the driver was also a bit standoffish, but kind. Once we opened the bags we realized that there were no fortune cookies, even though we ordered a family dinner which comes with fortune cookies. We opened our small steamed rice only to discover that there was a long hair mixed in with the rice. After we dished the rice, there were even more small hairs riddled throughout the rice. The dinner for three also comes with beef chow mein, however we noticed that we were given beef chop suey. We called the store to explain the fortune cookie and rice dilemma, before realizing the chop suey was incorrect. We asked to speak to the supervisor and we were told rudely by the young girl that she was the supervisor. She offered to credit us the 2.50 for the steamed rice and was very quick to end the call. Overall, the customer service was extremely poor and the food quality was much lower than expected. At least the food was hot but there was not much else to look forward to. Most likely will not be back.

I understand we had a bit of a confusing and unprofessional order but we were very kind to the delivery driver and the person we spoke with on the phone. Unfortunally, we found multiple strands of hair in the white rice and we were not given beef chow mein like the dinner for three promised, but rather beef chop suey. No fortune cookies either. When we called back, the phone opperator was very rude, but she did credit us for the white rice which was nice. But it was quick delivery and the driver was very kind to us, the food was hot but not what we were expecting.

Favourite Chinese - we drive from Bowmanville for this place! Spicy Shanghai noodles are their best menu item but we have never had anything we didnt love. Clean, very friendly and helpful and if they dont have an item ready they will have it prepared fresh for you in minutes.

Terrible service, very slow and the messed up my order, charged me for 3 egg rolls instead of 3 orders of chicken balls and then charged me for the difference when I pointed out that it was wrong. Never going back!

The food is pretty good for a chop suey restaurant. We were just visiting Colburg and wanted to have some chinese food. Usually we wouldnt go anyplace that sells chop suey as they wouldnt be authentic Chinese food and we always ended up being disappointed but we were mildly surprised that the food taste pretty good. We were not definitely not disappointed.

It was my first visit there. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food on the plate! I ordered the 3 choice plate. It was very tasty. The restaurant had lots of natural light coming in and not crowded. Good authentic Chinese food!
