French fries were old. Too many hard ones. Overly brown like they were cooked a couple times. Outside tips of the fish was hard. Either cooked too long or put in the fryer a couple of times like the French fries. Parking: Lots of room at dinner time.

Just in Coburg for the day, so thought we would try this place on the way into town. As soon as we entered the place this very friendly lady told us to sit where we wished. We both ordered Haddock and chips and when it came ate possibly the best inexpensive meal Ive had in years. Would go back in a flash.

I ordered 3 chicken souvlaki meals and the fries and greek salad was delicious, but the chicken souvlaki tasted like fish. It was clearly fried in the same oil they use for fish which is why I m giving 2 stars.

Place wasnt very clean. Our table was dirty, the condiments were covered in grease and food. They brought us a pop that had fuzzy mold all around the rim. We wont be back.

The halibut meal had a very small portion. The fries were also close to undercooked. The girl that served us was quite polite and helpful. The place was also full of happy smiley people. To be fair...the price of the halibut meal is VERY cheap.

Got a homestyle burger with fries combo for take-out. Was ready in less than 5 minutes. Very good price for the size of the burger and the amount of fries you get, $8.99 combo Burger taste was amazing. Fresh onion chopped with a sesame seed bun. Fries were fresh and hot with good flavour.

To be honest the Haddock Rocks!!..fries are ok!!..homestyle burgers are an awesome price & very good!

I got the Fisherman s Platter with cod, shrimp, scallops & chips. Service was quick, & everything was hot and delicious! The fish was flaky and tender on the inside and perfectly battered and crispy on the outside. The shrimp and scallops were awesome too. They are also clearly cutting their own fries, which were just perfect. I ve tried fish and chips all over this area and this was by far the best I ve had. I m definitely going back!

Excellent fish and chips when driving on Hwy 2. Fast & friendly, nice portions. I wish we had more of these types of places in Toronto, many have closed so I never eat this type of food. Ive been lacking since Penrose closed years ago near me and the owner of Golden Crisp died. Next country drive out that way I might try Big mouth but I need to come back and take photos too.

The classic fish n chips restaurant! Coming from the east coast which specializes in fish n chips, this one is on par with any east coast restaurant. Not too much batter, not over or undercooked, tartar in the squeeze bottle, and plenty of fries. Its worth the short drive off the highway.

This is always a dependable, good tasting fish supper. It may not be the best in the world, but its just what I want when I am ready for fish & Chips and coleslaw. Clean premises, friendly staff and consistent flavour make it my best choice. Yes they do take out- grab some for your walk along the beach!

To be honest, there wasnt enough halibut to taste it - quite thin compared to the past. Its a very nice crispy batter though. The floors are horrendous - slippery from grease. Bathroom was despicable with a big puddle of urine and a bag over the urinal. I think its beyond redemption as a friend in the restaurant business told me I can judge the cleanliness of a kitchen by the cleanliness of the bathroom.

We have eaten here twice this summer and where they swear theyre serving us halibut, I am 99.9% sure its haddock. I called and asked specifically last time and they swore it was halibut but I know halibut and this again, is not halibut. Halibut is very white, very firm and tastes almost like chicken where haddock is more opaque, not as white and doesnt have the same texture that halibut does. I know the difference and Im tired of paying halibut prices for haddock. Not that theres anything wrong with haddock but I paid for halibut so thats what I expected to receive. Its really not that hard to tell the difference.

AVOID AT ALL COST ! - Very disappointing! We ordered the fish & chips (Haddock). The filets were extremely oily & dripping enough oil to fill up my car. The chips tasted & smelled very old & tasty horrible. They went to the garbage bin. The coleslaw was ok & edible. Wish we had gone elsewhere - We will never go back

Good Halibut & Chips but not much Halibut, a lot of breading very thin cut of Halibut, not worth the extra cost. I should have gotten the Haddock, much cheaper.

Quick place to get and order your meal. Did 2 halibut and fries combo with gravy. Waited a few mins and was ready to go. Perfect place and very tasty.

Good taste good value

The fish and chips were delicious. The only problem we had was that when we picked up our order, paid with credit card, the attendee insisted that we had to press a 15%-25% tip button in order to proceed with the transaction. We dont mind paying for a tip if it was in order but this was for take out.

Food is great, service is great, prices are great! The food is always cooked right and never greasy (which for deep fried fish, is amazing). Service is amazing. They actually seem like they want to be there, check up regularly (but not too much to be annoying), and are quick to spot refills needed for drinks. As a side note Sheldon is above and beyond good. He is ALWAYS cheerful and makes the experience that much better, deserves a raise for sure! Prices are great, best prices in town, even cheaper then chain restaurants. Their burgers are way under priced for how good they are. EDIT (Nov 10/22): Sheldon no longer works there, which is a bit of a bummer. However food and prices are still very good. This place deserves more business, it seems like they actually care about putting out good food at a fair price. Parking: Lots of parking in the lot. They are part of a strip plaza so theres never a shortage of spots to park. Wheelchair accessibility: Everything is ground level. Single front door means a larger wheelchair may have issues fitting through.

We have to sit inside with winner jackets Then our food comes out I got the fish as you can see and it was so dry and out And very little fish it was mostly batter We will not be going back here

Food was pretty good. The young guy that served me wasnt. (Take out) Forgot the tartar sauce. He told me there was salt in the bag...no. Even with this poor (distracted) service you are forced to leave a tip when paying with bank card.

It was good. Heard that someone had heard that it was best in Coburg but...it was good. Ordered 3 fish and chip dinners. The pieces of fish werent that big on any of them and they were almost dry...a Lot of fries, like too many fries. Which I find a lot of fish and chip places do this to compensate for the fish. It doesnt compensate for the fish. Overall it was tasty Enough. Id probably go again.

Nice atmosphere, small town setting

Probably the most I have paid for the least amount of food. The food is alright but theres just no value.

Went today for lunch and spent around 30.00 for the fishermans platter and was very disappointed, my salad was wet, the scallops were fishy and there were hard pieces in my very small cutlets of fish.

Covid has kept us from this great establishment but we finally had the opportunity to enjoy lunch here again. Like every time before they exceeded our expectations. Service was quick!! Food was more then delicious and absolutely enough and as always the staff went out of their way to make our visit the very best it could be!!! They are very real and genuine people who make us feel right at home everytime we go!! A group of 19 walk in and out completely satisfied in just over an hour, you have to support and visit as much as u can!! Thanks for the fantastic experience, again!!!

Located in Cobourg, this place has some tasty items to offer. From fish & chips to salads and souvlaki they have some great options on their menu. Had a good experience at Captain George s. Service is quick and the food is amazing. Tried both haddock and halibut. Must visit. Recommend!

We love the halibut and chips from this restaurant. My parents would have it every week if they could get curbside pick-up. But unfortunately I asked if staff could come out and drop it in my trunk and she said no . So there is absolutely no way I would go inside into the small pickup area where it would be impossible to have adequate social distancing. So unfortunately, we will go to one of the other restaurants in town that wants to do curbside pickup because it also protects the restaurant staff. Hope you can change your service. I ll call again in a week and ask again.

Food was average and the customer service was lacking. When we arrived a server was entering the restaurant just in front of us, she turned as she entered but let the door close on us. Then as we were finishing up our order with the same server the restaurant phone rang, she answered it and took someone else s order before coming back to finish with us. In our opinion she should have finished with us and asked the customer on the phone to politely wait 30 seconds. In this day and age paying attention to detail with your customers certainly dictates whether they come back or not and unfortunately in this case we will not be back.

With 2 new Fish and Chip restaurants open in Cobourg, this place should consider actually cooking the chips not giving customers soggy wet uncooked fries. This place was a waste of $$$ and wont be back. All you have to do is cook and customers will return. Also fish , Halibut was luke warm and thin. Bye Bye !!!!

Very disappointed, first time there, my husband had the Halibut and fries, very small box, very over priced for that..... I ordered chicken souvlaki, maybe 5 little pieces of chicken, usually you get chunks of chicken. Its looked like a dogs breakfast very soupy looking ate a little bit of it, threw the rest away. I think they mixed the feta/tazita sauce and oil together, looked like it curtled... Next morning very sick to my stomach. Needless to say will never go there again.

The fish at these places used to be large, lightly battered and flash cooked to prevent soppy portions. The chips were large and fried properly. Now the fillets are smaller, thickly coated and soaked in oil atop of oil soggy chips that qualify as nubs or nodules. The gyro meat is highly processed, dried out show leather slaps of unimpressive meat-substance served in micro-portions. Ordered the dinner portion, paid nearly 13 bucks, and got 5 slaps of this abysmal foodstuff. Theres no way they serve enough gyro meals to justify having a fresh roasted block on-hand, I get it its a fish & chips joint not meant for anything but, but then dont offer a deeply substandard meat that I actually got sick off of. Standards used to be higher, so much higher, and Ive eaten from this company for almost 10 years.

Ive worked for a fish and chips restaurant for 4 years, and learned a lot about the differences in quality. After speaking with the staff, it was clear they do all the little things right to make sure the quality is top notch, preparing everything fresh the day of, and even making their own tartar sauce. Most customers wouldnt be aware of all these little extra steps they take, but because I worked in the industry, I could really appreciate the passion and dedication involved. It was the best fish and chips my wife and I have ever had and I would highly recommend this place, its worth the trip to Cobourg!
