Tidy pub menu with traditional faves and fare, and daily features. A solid selection of Spirits, Wine and Beer. Join us as we aim to earn our place in Cobourg. We look forward to making any and all our guests welcome at The Claymore.
A beautiful traditional pub. Loads of atmosphere. Excellent food and service. First time visitors.
We ate at the patio during summer visit to Cobourg and enjoyed the atmosphere and food. We had fish and chips and coconut shrimps and they were delicious.
2.5 hrs to get 2 salads, fries, loaded fries and wings. Wings flavourless and greasy, loaded fries beef was dry and very little, nearly no cheese. Fries good, salad good. It took nearly 1.5 hrs to get our food, we ate and left. Won't be going back.
Went here for a birthday and the backroom was perfect for six, could fit eight comfortably The atmosphere was reminiscent of Scotland and had an amazing waitress who took excellent care of us. The food was great portions for the price and delicious. This is a must eat at in the town of Cobourg.
This was a nice pub to eat at. The food was good and had great sizeable portions. Definitely leaves extra to take home. It was a nice atmosphere as well. There were swords and props around to stage the ambiance they were attempting. I got the club wrap with fries. It was a very good wrap, and the fries are a to die for menu idem, they are very good. They also have a nice bar with a wide selection of beer, cocktails and spirits. I would recommend for a nice family outing. Service was good and polite, however getting the food out of the kitchen could have been faster.
We love Coburg, but we had never visited the Claymore before. We were not disappointed! The food was great, the staff were friendly and happy, and the environment was clean and welcoming. We will definitely be back!
Among the best fish and chips in North America. I was born in Cobourg, so when I returned, I didn't expect their fish and chips to rival English dishes I have had. It did, and exceeded them in taste. Good batter, sweet sauce.
My partner and I went to this pub, Cobourg's newest, on a recent Friday night. Of course we had Fish and Chips, which was delicious. The pub menu has a variety of items, all very reasonably priced. There is a good selection of beer, although I do miss a selection of ales and Scottish pints. The service was excellent and very friendly. I really like how they have set up the pub, complete with a snug and a nice bar. We will certainly be back.
Great night, good atmosphere and food to match
The fish and chips was mediocre at best. I cant fathom why other reviews are so good. Good service though.
Hours say til 10pm; doors locked, place closed at 9:04pm
The fish and chips was great.great proportions.quick bite to eat.would recemond The Claymore to anybody who wants fish and chips!!!!!!
It is a cute little pub
Just back from a great dinner and drinks. Order the Reuban sandwich and fries, will not disappoint. Great friendly service
Classic local pub with Brit vibe. Locals are friendly, staff are extremely attentive. Pricing is reasonable. Great vibe, definitely coming back.
Cozy pub with good atmosphere and food. Service is very friendly also. Oh yeah, and beer!
Had fish and chips and was the best. Service was excellent and the prices were really good. Will definitely go again
Not great
Fish and chips was amazing!
Great food, friendly staff
Great food, friendly atmosphere, nice pub to chill out and have a drink
Friendly service. Quiet little pub. While food was prepared quite well and portion size was generous, it did lack a wee bit of seasoning, which was easily rectified by the salt shaker. I will go back and try it again, as it could have been an off day for the kitchen.
First time going to the Claymore. Went to watch my beloved Newcastle United. Great food, good drinks, and welcome pub. Do recommend. Will be back.
Can t help it .I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! It s like the place on Cheers, everybody knows your name and you re like family. Brian is always trying to make things right for YOU and your guests. I say try it out .make your place to hang out. CHEERS!
Had a great dinner with a nice singer on their patio. Our server was abit overworked with the Friday night crowd, but handled it very well. Will be back often.
A local favourite for my family! Great wings, deliciously salty poutine, nice atmosphere and staff!
My boyfriend ordered the Philly cheeseburger and me the the chicken strips . Both with fries. SPECTACULAR food quality. The burger was incredibly justice and perfectly prepared and the strips hot and fresh and fries were hot and crispy. First time coming here and will return Service was excellent on top of that
Awesome service awesome food Fish was wonderful
Terrible service
amazing service and an amazing bar with great staff
My cousins and I were there for dinner and drinks before a theater production at 4th Line Theater.
Wings were about room temperature although the fries were good the gravy wasnt very good. It took about 15 minutes before a server came. Overall if you want food, Id suggest going to another local restaurant. If you just want a few drinks and faster service Taps & Corks is probably better and less cluttered although slightly more expensive
food. The sherperds pie was superb. The server was ok. Took a little longer than you would expect at 3pm and maybe 2 other customers but that happens sometimes. Food
Went here after being rejected by another bar with a very grumpy server. Bartender at claymores was amazing. He was very attentive and welcomed us immediately. Food.took a but long but they were quite busy. Would definitely go back on our next trip .
Considering it s sidewalk sale and most definitely should have far more servers on. Amanda was great! She really made an effort and was very kind considering the pressure to provide good service to so many people. I think they need to make more effort to have the staff and all hands on deck! Fries and gravy are great!
Food is absolutely delicious. The owner, employees, and regulars are all fantastic people. Only downside is that sometimes they get swamped with unexpected peaks from tourist traffic and have trouble keeping up
People were great...service slow but shy to new faces ..id go back just cuz Im a prick
Excellent service and great foid
This was my first visit to this restaurant. I was invited for an employee appreciation event. We had an attentive server. The food was good . You serve my favorite pilsner. I enjoyed my evening. I will definitely return.
We have recently moved to the area and have been trying out the local establishments. We passed this place a few times and decided to give it a try. The dining area is clean and has a nice pub-like setting. The menu is not too big and not too small, a good enough variety, and the prices are affordable. Unfortunately that s where the good news ends. It was karaoke night, and for some reason, after setting up for karaoke, they started blasting Latino dance music. Really loud. We had to yell over the music. I ordered a burger, which came on a wet soggy bun. Both top and bottom. After trying to get some attention, I took my plate to the bar, and asked for a dry bun. I ended up with a burger on a cold bun, but it was dry. The fries are not home made, and they had a weird coating on them. Not what you expect from a pub. Service was ok. I felt bad for the 1 woman who was both bartender and server, so I am hesitant to complain. But it s not a good sign when you have to return the hand-held payment machine to the bar yourself, because it was dropped off and not retrieved. I was really surprised to find out this place is only a year old. It felt more like a place that has seen better days. I think it s ok if you are just stopping by for a drink. But if you want to appeal to those who want dinner in a pub, I would advise the owner to create an atmosphere reflective of an English pub, be fair to your servers and staff appropriately, and create a kitchen that serves fresh home-made food.
Nice place to have a drink, There were 4 of us and we either had the fish and chips or the Shepards pie and we all enjoyed the food. Small meal menu selection, but lots of appetizers. Good prices so well likely be back.
Great food and amazing service !
Tough one to rate. The food was average, maybe a 7/10. Menu was limited. Beer was plentiful. Love the Newcastle Brown on tap. The waitress Latisha was great. Sociable and personable.
Service was great can not complain about that. The food could be a bit better, hopefully the menu in the future will reflect more of what the ambiance is. Good luck to new adventures wishing all the best.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Service was spectacular! Definitely would recommend!!
Popped in with my cousin for lunch today. Had the special Reuben Sandwich we found it, with the fries, to be excellent. There was a large selection of beer that looked tasty unfortunately I was driving & could not partake. The tea was good though.
Love going to the claymore as the food is incredible and the head server Latisha is absolutely the life of the pub! Food is amazing and the drinks are also very unique! Ask for latisha for your server !!
I have a disability and I felt very welcome by the staff at claymore karine and latisha were so amazing ! I ve never felt so welcome and they were friendly the food was awesome will be back !
A great addition to eating downtown. Pub grub, friendly staff. Limited menu but great food.
We stopped in at this cute little pub last weekend and it was perfect. Our food was delicious, our waitress was so nice, and we got to meet the Cobourg Drew McIntyre! Highly recommend.
We love local and are always up to try new places. The staff was the highlight... as even though our server was clearly newer to serving, they were friendly and attentive. The owner or manager came by to say hi as well. So the feel is correct. The pricing is on the lower end and unfortunately the food reflects this. Over the years, weve become a couple of food snobs...and to be clear, the food is not bad and the portions are good. Its just not craveable food. I am also stingy with my stars, especially on my first visit. So if you are looking for a reasonably priced meal in the downtown Cobourg area and value good service, give the Claymore a swing...you may not be knocked of your feet but more importantly, you will not be disappointed either. My Scottish father would absolutely love this place... good food, good price, friendly and effective staff.
London Pride on tap and a great menu. Good service too! Bangers and mash were great!
Great service. Poutine was amazing. Real curd and lots of it. Chicken strips and fries were great.
My wife and I both had the chicken ceasar wrap and it should have been called a lettuce wrap. Very difficult to find any chicken. Paul Foy
Great new restaurant. Owner recommended Sheppards pie, you wont be disappointed ;) Returned later for the chix quesadillas
Great spot
Great friendly staff. Nice patio
Had the liver and onions was delicious
The food is great priced fairly, menu has pub food but some is Scottish and some Canadian. We had the 3 course steak dinner on Sunday was excellent, but didnt offer choice of potatoes, served with fries. Mind you the fries are good. Overall anything we have eaten there has been great and so is the owner & staff.
This is a secret that we can keep so good
We thought we would try the Claymore today for dinner. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was very disappointing. There was hardly any filling inside of it, and the tortilla was cooked very crispy and crunchy. Hard to eat it. I was still hungry when I got home. My husband had liver and onions with mash potatoes and carrots. He said it was ok. I tasted the liver and it wasnt bad.
Great food. Hard working waitress.
I had the homemade burger it was good, a classic burger nothing to write home about. We were supposed to have mozzarella sticks as an app but our server forgot. I can t complain about the food and hate complaining about the service but for me this experience was a 2 star. Hopefully I can change it with a better review in the future
Service was nothing to write about and the food tasted like it come from the grocery store freezer.
Really good food ..our waitress was remarkable and owner was really upbeat and chill. I would definitely recommend and prices extremely fair specially now a days
Food is bland and service dismal. Tried 4 times, same service and food. Will enjoy a drink on patio in future only from now on.
Great friendly service. Stella was nice and cold. Great atmosphere
New Owner...great staff...reasonable menu choices and rates. Domestic and Imports on Tap..Indoor Seating and has an Outdoor Patio for those that want to take in the summer sunshine
Authentic food and incredible service! By far the best bar in town
Character and charm. The Claymore staff are all friendly and provide great service every time no matter how busy the pub is. Nice tree covered patio on historic downtown main street.
I was really hoping to like this new(ish) pub in our little downtown, and had heard good things, but my friend and I were pretty disappointed when we went last night. There was only one server on shift and she was not very efficient. We waited quite a while before she came back with our drinks, and she spilled water as she put glasses down on the table. She seemed in a hurry to get us out, grabbing my plate and pulling it away before asking if I was done (I kind of was, but I couldve kept nibbling), and didnt even ask if it was one bill or two (we wouldve preferred to split it) - she just brought the bill and the payment machine already loaded up and ready to go, and left. Food was ok, standard pub fare. Fish and chips was greasy. Sadly, I wont be returning.
Lunch and a beer. Was so good. The waitress is so cute! Shes bomb !
Great
Great pub food and beer. Really appreciate that they have Fullers on tap and serve curry with half and half. Decor is more like a bar inside but staff are really friendly so that you feel youre in a real pub.
A couple of weeks ago we were in the restaurant. I asked the waitress if I could make a reservation for the 11th of October at1730 hrs for me and four mates. I asked specifically for the back room. The waitress marked down in the reservation and asked me for my name and phone number. We showed up on the 11th of October, only to find the restaurant closed. It threw a monkey wrench into plans. I should have received at least a phone call to advise us that it would be closed that date. Very poor customer service. Your loss.
You should check out the Claymore! A wonderful little pub with a comfy dining area, comparable prices with great serving sizes! The service was kind and courteous, a fantastic energy. I highly recommend stopping in! Love Local
Great staff and amazing food!
Food and service was great - amazing wings and smoked meat sandwich
Great spot, amazing service. Locally owned and operated! Good variety on specials!
We had reservations for a group prior to the Santa Clause Parade. A nice, small, cozy restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly.
Great food, great music, great staff and great owner, Ill be back !!!
Great beer, yummy food and super service!!!!
