Beyond excellent service. Sat at the bar & server was so sweet. Cold beer & excellent food. Recommended to go to this location from manager in Lindsay.

Changing my review from 1 to 5 . The quality of service has increased tremendously. Kudos to everyone who made these changes

Wicked good food

A good place to eat. The interior is starting to show its age.

Ordered the lobster and steak meal. The steak was cooked to well no flavor tho and my lobster tail was raw the waitress only charged me for the steak in total 7.5 food could have been better

Came here with a friend for a couple of drinks and appys. The service was friendly, the food was fresh and tasty. Got the Thai chicken and chips, breaded mushrooms, and quesadillas.

This is my 4th Castle Johns I have visited and this one did not disappoint, I ordered one of my favourite dishes Sheppards Pie and it was good. Great vibe here and what made the day was the fantastic, professional and friendly service from my server Julie, I hope she sees this.

Some say Port Hope Castle Johns is better but I say they are both great and we always feel we get great food at a good value! Keep up the good work on the fries and wings and well keep coming back!

Typical bar with tvs everywhere, but the food is good and reasonably priced by todays standards. $6 pints (as of Mar.17/24) and the food is good (what Ive had). I recommend the wings, theyre excellent (Pineapple curry, especially); the Yorkies are great & so are the fish & chips. Tuesdays & Thursdays are wing days; appetizers on Wednesdays.

Bad experience today. We went for lunch. Had wing special. The flats were black inside, and wrong seasoning. Quality NFG!!

We had my sons hockey team lunch at Castle Johns on a Saturday. Manager Julie was amazing to work with. We all preordered for a set time to ensure we got all of our orders & bills in great time so we could get back to the arena for our next game. Our group of 31 had a great time, enjoyed our food & had amazing service all around, especially from Julie. Thanks again, we will be sure to book there again when in the area.

Always good food

The bartender was more interested in having shots with her friends and everyone else was treated like a inconvenience. At one point I even felt threatened bye the crowd it was not welcoming at all

This place is great! Wings are the best in town! All the server s are nice. Erin and Jaclyn are great on Thursday nights! I come with my buddy s to play pool as it s the only pool table in Cobourg. Crowd is so friendly and welcoming as I m new in town. I will be back most definitely!

Okay place

Wings were dry and average. Don t ever order the steak and lobster from this location. Tasted like it was defrosted under water, horrible. Fajitas are great! Bathrooms were filthy. Great prices on drinks and the staff are excellent.

Wait was nearly 2 hours for food, when everyone got their meals the food was stone cold. Not worth the money.

Terrible Experience. We called and made a reservation of 13 people to come eat dinner after my daughters hockey game. The waitress said the table will be ready in 20 minutes. That was no problem. We hung around at the arena and made our way down. When we arrived they had not had the table ready but the part that was upsetting was the staff talking loudly about us saying that they told it would be 20 minutes, another staff saying they told us half hour. Either way that was fine. We waited and they sat us. Drinks took a very long time to arrive. We waited close to 1.5 hrs for food. The food was cold for 5 of the plates! When you are paying $35 for a steak you want it to be somewhat warm. The potatoes were ice cold! My sisters bacon was still frozen near the end of her sandwich. My moms fish was burnt. Our nephew fell asleep at the table because the food took so long to arrive. The waitress that brought our food tried to make us out to be liars saying the cook said he had all plates under the heat lamp..... I was a server for 8 years. You never say that to a customer. We were still friendly towards the servers and gave them a 18% tip but they didnt try to comp us for anything or throw in a courtesy dessert like I would have done but thats ok. We wont be back.

Food was good. The waitress didnt get my order right. I said no mayo, got mayo but no avocado. I just ate it anyway. The French Onion soup was amazing though!

We hadnt been here in a while, and I doubt we will go back. The food was below standards for average pub food - disappointing. There was a man at the bar clearly drunk who continued to be served. The only saving grace was our server. Very nice young women, attentive and helpful. Overall, its not at the level we expected for the price ticket

Food was not bad but not very good. Garlic bread was especially bad. 5 small pieces of bread toasted so much they are basically crackers. Barely any butter very dry. Not to mention it was $6. Wont go back.

We came here for dinner and drinks during a Bachelorette party this weekend. The food was good but the service was honestly terrible. Everything came to us extremely slow even though the place was empty. Our server did not check on us once - not even to order a second round of drinks. We were planning on drinking and hanging out there most of the night but decided to go somewhere else. It was pretty disappointing because we wanted the experience to be fun and special for my sister.

Ordered food for delivery and was made & delivered very quickly which was nice. BUT We ordered the turkey club and the BLT poutine. The club was NOT worth 18$, the bread was nothing special, barely any mayonnaise, lettuce had an off taste, and the bacon smelled like dog food and tasted even worse. The sweet potato fries were okay though. The BLT poutine didn t have any good pieces of cheese curd (bottom of the bag crumbs) and the bacon, again, smelled like dog food and tasted worse. The sandwich was definitely NOT worth 18$, super disappointing.

This place is so so. The food is ok- typical bar food. I didn t leave starving. The staff is nice. However clean your entrance into the restaurant! First impression are important.

I ordered online last Saturday and went to pick up my order within the time of 30 minutes from the online order portal. I waited an additional 25 minutes for a total of over an hour. I would have preferred the option of cancelling my order because I assume it was forgotten. Positive comment: The fries are always crispy and delicious. Constructive feedback: The burger I ordered was charred, and I was disappointed because it was as if the cook either lacked the skill or time to grill the burger well. Try pan searing before placing it on the grill because fresh meat needs attention. I was disappointed but will order fries again!

Worst experience ever tonight. We ordered pulled pork sandwich and a beef dip. Both were dry, bread hard as a rock, waited more then half an hour for food, felt like food was sitting under heating lamp for longer then should due to dryness and the temperature. Thankfully the server didnt charge us.

I first ordered delivery and it was so delicious that the next night we went there directly for dinner and ordered there again the following day for a different group of people for lunch. Menu is extensive, food is delicious, service was great and the patio was a lovely atmosphere. I will definitely be back!

I m a doordash driver and my first order of the night was at this restaurant. After waiting for twenty minutes, I was informed that the cook refused to do my order for an unknown reason, thus taking away an opportunity to make money, and leaving the customer unsatisfied. Very unprofessional.

So im not from here, and i was looking for a steak house. To be clear, it is not discussing. I ordered a steak and lobster tail. Took a long time, and i get it week day and all. The dish was cold and the lobster was o er cooked. But food was ok.

We hadn t been to Castle John s previously, but for my husbands birthday he asked for fish and chips so we decided we would order take out for the family and celebrate at home. I placed my online order and my daughter went to pick it up. Upon arriving, she waited over 10 minutes without anyone approaching her, she finally stopped someone to say she was there for a pick up, and the person walked away without even saying anything! We live over 20 minutes away so we were just looking forward to a nice dinner. After 40 minutes she got back and told us that it was a horrible experience. We opened the bag to dig in, but there was no fish and chips. So the only thing my husband asked for, he didn t get. I called to ask to speak to the manager, who of course was not available , they had left for the night. It was 6:30-dinner time- The bartender that answered the phone, took my information and said she would give it to the manager (that was also an owner) and he would get back to me. I am still waiting. When I write reviews, I try to always make positive ones. However, it is clear this business doesn t care about customers or the service their staff provides.

When different styles of food needed

Ordered online for my birthday dinner as I worked late. After being ignored when we came in for pick up and were finally served, a demand for a tip when paying (wouldn t hand over the debit machine) they didn t even make/include the my meal!!! Don t bother calling the manager he/she seems to always have just left!! With no call back expected.

Was there today Sept 19th. Tuesday is wing night, Im very fussy about wings. Always find them not cooked enough or rubbery. Was pleasantly surprised. They were spot on, will definitely be back to try their other specials. Recommend

Food arrived cold, wrong sauce on wings, tried to rush us out after meal.

Smelt of cigarettes and beer. I got chicken parm and sent it back. The sauce was water and the crust on the chicken was mush. I got a Cobb salad as a replacement and the blue cheese tasted off. Honestly the worst restaurant I have been to. I also felt on edge because of the atmosphere. Felt sick the rest of the night. Don t go here.

A group of us were driving through (on our way back to Toronto) and decided to stop in for lunch. The restaurant had a few patrons when we entered, but it never got too busy. Our server was prompt to take our orders and the food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time and came as expected. I had the bangers and mash which came with three juicy sausages, two scoops of mashed potatoes, and a side of steamed vegetables.

Worst food ever! We were a party of 6. 4 got their food, the other 2 got their food 10+ minutes later. 3 orders of ribs and wings were undercooked. Couldnt get the meat off the bones and one order was freezer burnt with bits of foil paper stuck on it.

Came here for lunch Callie was our server and was amazing! Super attentive and made sure our dining experience was great.

The only restaurant in Cobourg that doesnt have wi fi. Need to upgrade the look and refinish the ripped seats in the booths.

I ve been coming to Castle John s for the past couple of years. I come with the group from Yarnit next door. I appreciate that they accommodated our request for a regular table for between 6-10 till the new year on Thursday evenings. We would like to request Steph as our server. She is amazing and always knows our orders for food and drink and is on it before we even get seated. Thanks.

Dropped in Thursday evening for a few drinks. The musical duo they had were amazing and we had great service from Steph. Its a nice local bar/restaurant. When we have eaten there before, the food has always been good.

Amazing and Well-Priced sportsbar. The staff was really on their foot and we didnot have to wait much on our order. The quality of food was quite amazing and we enjoyed it to the last bite. Looking forward to see more of their franchises opening up around Toronto.

Great Food and Service

My boyfriend and I would go out for dinner at least 1 a week to Castle Johns in Cobourg but after our poor service last night we ll never be returning. We got there and we re not greeted or seated until standing at the door for 10 mins. Mind you there were empty tables and no one in front of us. Once we were seated we waited 15 mins for the waitress to greet us and get our drink orders. We got seated at 6:20 We left at 7:30 with no food. We ordered a wrap and chickens wings there is no way it takes and hour and ten mins for that. We do not mind waiting but the waitress never said anything to us. As someone who has worked in the food industry if somebody s food is taking longer than it should you tell the customers sorry about the wait or your dinner will be ready shortly . We were not taken care of once last night at all. Beyond worst experience of we have had.

Absolutely terrible food. My husbands burger was dry, over cooked & cold. Gravy was tasty but cold. My sandwich had hardly any meat on it & tasted like vinegar. Our waiter was great though. Polite & attentive.

I came with my husband and 2 kids for lunch today and the service was terrible we were there well over an hour. It took 20 minutes for our server to take our drink order. another 20 minutes to get the drinks. The kids food came, no cutlery or napkins. Our server was tending to other tables and didnt acknowledge us much. My husband and I left without eating and we didnt even get an apology when I had to go to the front and ask to cancel our food and just get the bill. I typically order online and usually they forget something but I wouldnt want to dine here again if thats the level of service they find acceptable. We came at lunch, I understand a lunch rush but it wasnt busy nor unmanageable.

No pride of ownership evident when we were there for lunch recently..garbage out front (for my lunch mate to comment..that says a lot lol), the entry doors were covered in handprints and other stuff from gawd knows when. Dust galore on console table by the pool tables. Sounds like reviewer Stephanie B had the same wait person we had..after the food fiiiiiinally arrived (35 mins), the waitress said shed be right back with the ketchup. She was gone for over 10 minutes (and she only had us and a table of 2 on the other side). We were pretty much done the lukewarm (but otherwise okay) food by then. She also brought more cutlery with the ketchup loL..wth?l) The other server also only had 2 tables. They were not busy at all. It used to be a really great place to go - we went almost weekly for dinner and Id also often go for lunch since it was close to work..and fast lol. Will check reviews first next time. Would be nice to see some good ones again.

Prices are good! Ordered three meals through DoorDash, was sceptical to order fries as delivery fries tend to not be very good, but these were EXCEPTIONAL! amazing actually! Three poutine was the best I ve had! Me and three kids loved our meals. First time trying the food, and will definitely be ordering again! Can t wait to go into the restaurant!

We have always been very satisfied with our food but last night was not acceptable. It was not busy but we waited 25 minutes for a server to come to our table. We finally order our food, lasagna, steak medium and ribs and wings. After 45 minutes finally got our food. My steak was so well done I could hardly get a knife through it. My veggies were cold. The wings were luke warm and the lasagna could have been hotter. I told the server about my food and she offered to replace it but we had already been there longer than we planned I declined. The server said they would take some off the bill. Well they did give us a credit of $2.40 for a meal I was unable to eat.We were shocked to say the least. We wont be back!!

We had a really good time at Castle johns Cobourg! The food was astonishing, and it was served to us fast. The waitress, Jessica, was very friendly and kind, while taking our order, as well as serving us. She checked on us often. I will definitely come back to this amazing restaurant!

What a great place. Was there with some friends the night before his wedding. Even the owner come to our table to celebrate his soon to be wedding. The staff were so nice. Very clean. The food was fantastic.

Bought meals for take out and food was great!! The only issue i had is that it was not mentioned that burgers have no condiments added. Being we are on a trip, we only discovered that once it was too late. Would be great if this was considered to be mentioned when someone takes out food.

I have been a regular at Castle John Cobourg . The service is not what it was earlier . It took 40 Mins to get my takeout order . I hope the food is good after waiting for this long . Will find an alternate in the future ..

Went to this restaurant with a large group (35) booked almost a week ahead and would not recommend. After over 2.5 hours many people did not get their meals including children. Staff did not communicate issues or resolve in anyway. Possibly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had, if I could give a zero I would. We are patient and usually accommodating people but dining this was a disaster

My husband daughter and myself stopped by for a nice Friday dinner. Server was inattentive. Ordered apps that came after our main meals were served. Food was half cold on one plate, fully cold on another. $120 for a cold experience by both server and kitchen. The server came by once to see if we needed anything. This is the second time I ve come to this restaurant and had the same experience. We won t be giving it a third try.

We have been to this establishment several times now, and we had the pleasure of meeting Julie. Julie goes above and beyond. She was very attentive and our whole group was so impressed with her service. We will now make this our local regular place we come for a drink and food ! Amazing ! We love this place !!
