Went to the Cat and Fiddle last night for dinner and drinks. I ordered a burger and fries and let me tell you I was shocked when my food arrived. The burger was so big that I had to cut it in half to eat it and the fries were thick just how I like them. The service was outstanding and I will definitely be recommending the Cat to others

Worst meal Ive ever had! Four inch piece of dryed up salmon and wasnt given the option of potatoes so came with horrible crusty dried up rice and about 3 cups of freezer burnt peas! The appetizer bread sticks were rubbery and the cheese dip was out of a can and not even hot! Thats it! Never again! If you look close the place is not very clean either! No wonder they dim the lights! Wheelchair accessibility: Is none, and washrooms are up stairs!

A perfectly English Pub! Great food ( best liver and onions ever and my husband loved his burger). Great pub atmosphere - just like you are in England! And the staff is lovely and attentive. We will definitely be back. Oh, and the soundtrack was amazing

Really great burger. I had the whiskey maple burger which was HUGE and Messy!! But tasted great! I had the kettle chips which were just ok. Next time and there will be a next time I ll try the fries!

The Mothers Day meal was super delicious and our waitress was top notch. The portions were more than we could eat and we had enough each for another meal. They alsohad entertainment who was excellent too. An English pub to put on your list. Well done The Cat and the Fiddle...Cobourg On.

worst serving experience i have ever had. went here after the beach because posters were saying they were welcoming customers on their patio.. when we got there we were the 3rd table seated.. no one else except 2 other tables. we saw a waitress after 15 mins to take orders. we told her our drinks and the food we wanted and she told us to wait to place the food order and just do the drink order first. IT THEN TOOK 50 MINS for the waitress to come ask for our food order.. AFTER someone from our table got up and asked why we haven t had our order taken. She then came to the table and said she didn t think we wanted any food when WE ORIGINALLY asked for food but she told us to wait to take the food order so it was easier on her. Our whole dinner experience took 2 and a half hours when all we wanted was a quick bite to eat. Cashing out she did not bring our bill to the tables like she had done for everyone else and asked us to come inside and wait for her to divide the bills up so it would be easier for her . I told her my order and she still over priced and billed me wrong.. had to correct her twice while she was standing at the computer punching in what i was saying to her. I went with a party full of people who tip well and the service was so bad that we all left without tipping a single thing.. worst server and experience at a pub I have ever had.

Went on a weekend, music was awesome but the food was horrible - keep your money.

We are fairly new to the area; when we first moved here this place was temporarily closed. When it reopened I read a mix of reviews and was uncertain what to expect. We tried it out today and I was pleasantly surprised with our experience. Food was good pub-style food, service was very good attentive without being intrusive, pleasant without being fake. Table and surroundings very very clean. And although it may not matter to some, we enjoyed the music and volume, loud enough to enjoy but not so loud that you have to yell across the table. I m glad we gave this place a try, and we will surely go back again.

Portions way to big, server said the berger was fresh and home made 6oz. What came was 3oz and way over cooked. Place needs updating.

My husband and I came here for dinner to check things out under the new ownership. I went for the safe bet and ordered Quesadillas, and he ordered Cajun dry rub wings. The quesadillas were incredibly soggy and very greasy, easily the worst Ive ever had at a restaurant. The wings were over seasoned - my husband wasnt able to finish what he ordered because the amount of salt was so overpowering. We had a nice server and she provided great service. When she asked if wed like containers for our food and we declined, she realized we were unsatisfied, and $10 was discounted from our bill, which we really appreciated. Its a fun pub with a good atmosphere, and we hope this was just an off night in the kitchen.

Ate here for the first time with the family. Lovely atmosphere, attentive but not cloying service and the food was enjoyed by all. My wife especially enjoyed her veggie burger, which we were especially grateful for (as most veggie burgers here on Cobourg are not good), and the fries get a shout out as well. Also enjoyed the 70s tunes (mostly British bands.. go figure!) playing in the background.

The Cat & The Fiddle pub is the best pub in Cobourg! Soo many memories were made here back in the day and I am so happy they are back open! The food is always delicious, servers are always ready for a fun conversation & the music playlist is perfect! Always hard to leave this place once you sit down!! Must visit if your in Cobourg!!!

Just stopped for a drink. It was NYE, so a bit busy. Our server was great. The bar only had ingredients for about half of what was on the menu. The beer I ordered, was different from what I was served. I enjoy a variety of beer, so not an issue. I think this place newly reopened, so maybe that explains some? I would go back.

Was seated at 5:30 and got my food at 7:00 after mixing up our orders there were 6 of us 3 of which ordered fish and chips and 20 minutes later were told there was none so had to reorder. The orders came out all mixed up. Finally at 7:10 We had to leave to go see a show that started at 7:30. He gave us our bills and none of them were right. One of us ordered a chicken cesear wrap....something that did need to be cooked and she never got her order. Worst experience of dining out I have ever had. Definitely will never return. Wouldnt recommend anything from there. Would never recommend this place to anyone

Little bit of a rant...Had reservations at the Cat & Fiddle for 5:30 tonight. ( 6 of us )Ordered our drinks which came in a timely manner. Ordered our meals. Had to wait an hour. 3 of us got our meals. Fish and chips were not available.Had to order something else . The other 3 had to wait. We were almost done our meals when the other 3 started to get theirs . Orders were screwed up. And 1 of us didnt get their meal. Felt sorry for the waiter Chris. It was his second shift working there . Not his fault! I spoke to the owner who was very rude to me and said it is what is, go sit down and I will take care of it! But he did not! Time to pay our bills! The bills were screwed up . Some of us were charged for things we didnt order. The list goes on.. Think I can speak for the 6 of us and say we wont be back again! Rant over !! The rest of the evening was fantastic! We went to see Scaramouche , Queen tribute at Victoria Hall! To the owner: We had 2 drinks! And for your information we ordered our food before we had the second drink! Nice try though! The power of social media will take care of this !

Went for lunch here with my wife this afternoon and had a great time. I ordered a pint of lager and some sausage rolls, which really hit the spot. Absolutely love the atmosphere!

REOPENED DEC 2023! Had to go back because it has a unique atmosphere as Cobourgs longest running pub. New owners? New staff! Chicken pot pie was very good and arrived piping hot. Fish and chips were also very good. Still some bumps to overcome but the friendliest staff ever. Come down and have a new/old time! Ranking is getting better! Haven t been since the week before Hallowe en 2019 and under the new owners by then. It was not passable food - everything had been cooked (long) before and dropped in the deep fryer for our hot and fresh meal. This will take more than Gordon Ramsay to fix. Ambience was stark, everything felt beyond tired. The waitress was pleasant and efficient. Cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. This has been a landmark for decades so something like this is probably needed- but needs a big fix before folks will come back.

I used to LOVE this place when I grew up in Cobourg. However, the recent experience was less than ideal. I had ordered their roast beef sandwich, as had my mom. When it arrived, it was a pale grey and barely warm. Biting into this sandwich was similar to what I imagine biting into a tire would be like. We were also the only ones in the pub at 12:30 in the afternoon. Where was the lunchtime rush? This should have been our first hint. Our waitress was nice, but avoided us for the most part. I dont know how this place still have such a high star rating on Google... Its NOTHING like I remember it, and I certainly will not be going back.

Menu online is super outdated so went in expecting something they didnt have anymore. Plus prices were much higher than expected. Had cod and fries. Fish was ok...great portion...just fish wasnt that great...fries were awesome though. Just wouldnt pay $6 for an order of them. Servers were really good though. Super friendly and attentive.

Ive been going here for 15 years and never feel disappointed when I leave.

Always great food, I have been going regularly for years and never leave unhappy! There is an ATM on site.. I see some people unhappy about not accepting credit cards but I understand why they dont. Businesses pay very high fees just to be able to offer those payment options - on top of machine rental fees. It does not give anything more the business or the staff at all. Even tips left on credit cost a fee. Businesses pay for the credit card points customers receive, NOT the bank. We should save our credit card usage for the big businesses of the world and help actually support the local, small businesses by paying with options that dont cost them these premiums on top of already high business expenses.

Food is average. The dont take Visa or debit

Whenever Im in Cobourg I always enjoy my visit to the Cat And The Fiddle Pub. Their food is wonderful and the decor charming. Its a small and cosy pub and the staff is excellent. I have never been disappointed with my food choices. Bring your appetite as the portions are generous. They do not take plastic of any kind, be it debit or charge card. I view this as cost saving on their part so I go prepared.

We stopped into this quaint little pub after an afternoon of wondering in and out of the 4 second hand stores on the same street! I had the Shepherds Pie and my husband had the Yorkie. They were both delicious. Atmosphere was very relaxed and the service was terrific. I highly recommend this pub. The only drawback to this pub is the washrooms are upstairs, if you have mobility issues, that could be a huge challenge for you!

Wonderful options for dinner with unusual choices not available at many places. Cash only is kind of a downer if you are not prepared for it. During the day when the evening bugs are not out gives more seating options outside.

Heard rumors they closed but sure enough cobourgs only British pub was there the laughter and conversation is still on tap . the food is amazing and the service waS great . great new management and the chef is one of the originals from 1985returning to his first kitchen and first class food .and the servers were wearing kilts . hoping for another 35 years

Been a favourite for many years. Always fresh food that tastes great. Wide variety of food for all ~ including the most diverse menu from salads to appetizers to steaks to Scottish or Indian food! Best fries around and a cosy and relaxing friendly & fun British Pub atmosphere. Great home made soups for lunch too! Also The Patio in summer has the most incredible flower boxes you will See almost anywhere

Found this place at the off chance was looking for a place to take my Mum for lunch she was visiting from England. Myself having grown up in England & living here as close to a English pub as I have found. To my great joy & surprise they serve Old Speckled Hen on draught having grown up in a town 2omins from where they brew this in England & yet havent found it anywhere else. Oh the service was good also. If I didnt have my mum I could of stayed all day. Thank you

Food was awesome! I got the lobster/crab roll with fries and coleslaw. Was not a huge portion but made me feel good instead of insanely stuffed like some places. Also got the lemon lavender cheese cake since I actually had room for dessert again small but very tasty. My husband got the fish fry platter I think it was called. Came with a piece of battered cod, popcorn shrimp, a crab cake, fries and coleslaw. Also was good portion size and tasty the fish wasnt greasy either and thinner batter. Would definitely go back again. We were there a little early for dinner so wasnt packed yet but was filling up to almost full when we left just a small place though they do have a patio in the summer.

Ive been going to Cat and the Fiddle for almost 30 years. Great place for a family meal or drinks with friends into the wee hours of the morning.

For 16 years this has been my favourite pub spot in town. Great atmosphere ... awesome summer patio ... Wing deals Mon, Fri, on Toronto home game nights and pretty much any night after 9pm ... love this place!

Food and atmosphere was perfect. I felt like I was in my grandmothers kitchen after just having left the Portabello Market. They even have the absolutely hideous 1950s wall paper spot on. My only gripe is that their deserts were uninspired and clearly not made onsite. At the very least they could grab the Heinz cans of spotted dick, or sticky toffee and serve it with custard for that complete experience.

This pub does not warn you that it does not accept debit or credit payments. You are instructed to use THEIR bank machine, which will cost you $2 for the transaction and a further fee from your own bank. Very angry I was not told of this before ordering. Was there for lunch, and the soup was just plain awful.

This a basic type pub, just average everything. Staff are too. Yawn. Watch though, NO cards credit or debit.

Decent pub grub, good service, and good selection of drafts including some local craft beers. They will allow dogs on the patio if it is quiet out there which is appreciated. No credit cards or debit is an issue although there is an ATM. Not sure if this is an ongoing policy or just down for the day.

Its funny that the only complaint from most reviewers is that this establishment only accepts cash. There is a LARGE sign on the door righ near to the VERY convient cash machine that tells people Cash Only but apparently most people are too stupid or self absorbed to notice. Yes the machine charges you $3 to use it but guess what? So does EVERY OTHER machine not directly connected to your bank! Dont like it? BRING CASH! As to the food and service - food is typical pub fair, service is excellent and they have a couple of local craft beers. Here is a hidden gem for you: You can book the large room upstairs FOR FREE for small gatherings - just make sure to phone well ahead.
