The Buttermilk Cafe is Your Go-to Spot for Freshly Baked Goods & Homemade Diner Specialties! Freshly made in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada.
Not even through my meal and I had to pause to write this review! A really good eggs benedict; the perfect hollandaise on it and the plate was a good size - not too big or small. Home fries were decent too. The cherry on top is the service. It was fast, polite, and what a great atmosphere. Glad I stopped here from off the road; would definitely come again.
Had a great experience here. Staff was friendly and the food was great. The menu is large, so there is something for everyone and the variety is nice. Really good value too, pretty decently sized portions for reasonable prices. A lot of seating space in doors as well. Must visit!
Great dining experience here. Fast and friendly service in a homey environment. The pancakes were a great size and not too dense. Hearty portions and inexpensive. The hollandaise sauce was spot on. Will return if I ever find myself in Cobourg.
Very good breakfast with exceptional friendly service in this lovely little town
Over this past Thanksgiving long-weekend, on our way from the Toronto area to Montreal we decided to stop in Cobourg for a late lunch. Last time we were in Cobourg, we were looking for a breakfast restaurant and noticed a lineup for this place so we decided, “lets see if we can go there” this time. We did and it didn't disappoint. Fabulous breakfast, very nice staff and cozy interior. Coincidentally, they were offering a Thanksgiving dinner for the upcoming Monday so we booked a reservation. Good thing too as the traffic in the 401 drive back was horrendous stopping for dinner was greatly anticipated. I once again, it was fabulous. It included an appetizer option, we had the soup, main course, turkey dinner with all the fixings including a homemade warm bread roll and dessert, we both had homemade tiramisu. My only concern was not falling into a “food comma” on the way home afterwards… were we both stuffed! Sadly, I didn't think to take a picture from our breakfast (there are plenty of those on the web anyway) from the previous visit but did remember to take one at dinner on Monday just after having the soup appetizer. (probably a more rare(r) photo anyway) :-) Buttermilk Cafe will definitely be in our “where to eat” list when driving between the Toronto/Quebec corridor going forward.
Absolutely loved this place. I had eggs Benedict-outstanding! My husband had the buttermilk pancakes with chocolates chips and they were absolutely delicious. The service was great, the staff was friendly, the atmosphere had a home feel. I cannot say enough positive things :) I will be stopping here anytime I visit this town. Very impressed :)
Was at the Buttermilk Cafe for breakfast a few days ago. The restaurant may be showing its age in terms of decor, furniture and atmosphere, but that does not stop people from lining up for their delicious food. We had blueberry pancakes and a smoked meat hash topped with a fried egg, both of which were delicious Good value too for the amount of food. Highly recommended.
Food - 5/5 (Only tried Carrot Cake) Service - 1/5 Ambiance - 5/5 **UPDATE** Service - 1/5 Went there again for the carrot cakes. The server gave us 3 glasses of water with ice, we asked her to get 2 glasses without ice and her reaction was not something you'd usually see. After that we asked them to pack us a takeout for 6 cakes, and they refused saying they had a group coming in later. They only gave us 3 instead of 6. She packed all 3 of them in the same box, and I asked her to get separate boxes, and she again said that you have to tell all that before packing and it was just absurd. Because we did mention to get it packed separately. It was a really unpleasant experience, if you have something which sells good, don't be rude. May not come here again, at least for dining in. *OLD* Ordered Carrot Cake, and have been visiting this place multiple times just for the cake. It's worth a visit if in town. The carrot cake is just amazing here.
On a weekends we frequently stopped at restorant for brakfast and dinner.Yesterday was different.New owner has to concentrate for same quality food.Like real focaccia when it says on menu with burger.I hope to taste quality food next time and happy owner as well.
So everyone has raved about this place ....I wasnt very impressed. Service and atmosphere was blah ...and the beef dishes lacked flavour ...however salmon got a good review. Wouldnt drive to eat there again ..
Hello I had my first meal at the Buttermilk Cafe today I took my daughter. Everything was excellent our wonderful server, the food, the atmosphere everything !!!!!
The bacon, mushroom, swiss cheeseburger is the best burger in Cobourg, best burger in Ontario, best burger in Canada, bar none
Previous reviewer said the eggs were perfect, they told no lies. The bread was great a lil too much butter for me but my omelete was A+
Update: 2024 ***The restaurant has new owners and theyre definitely buying subpar ingredients while making changes. I use to drive an hour (one way) to go here and its just frankly slowly becoming less and less worth the drive. The staff and the actual town are now my main reason for going but if youre going for the food save your money or literally only go for the famous pancakes and the staff. Im thinking of trying different restaurants in that town since I love the town that much.*** 2020 Its what I would say is a local, slightly, hidden gem. The quality of the food here is amazing. The wait staff of kind and friendly. They really do their best to make you feel welcomed. There isnt anything Ive tried on this menu that didnt taste amazing, or like the ingredients were subpar. Its not overstaded but underrated. Ive spent a lot more and gotten a lot less. Im definitely coming back.
Now this place is your typical Ma and Pa breakfast place. Great food and brilliant prices. I don t think the atmosphere of this restraunt has changed since it opened years ago.. which makes it even better. Check it out Food : 5/5
Great place, great food, great service!
Good food and good service
I went there for dinner on Monday night, and the hostess with the long brown hair was amazing. She was super fast with getting us a table, she was very respectful and very kind. Definitely going back because of her.
I have been for supper several times. But never on a Tuesday Which is new, since they don t open on that day before I had the Pork dinner and it was just OK. A little oily. Nothing like I have had before before also potatoes were very mushy It s almost like chef changed Service from the waitress is always nice here
classic diner, high quality food, great service :)
Asheigh was an attentive and helpful server for our delicious breakfast! She was super helpful with portion sizes. Sophie, the hostess was also very friendly and considerate. Thank you! Food
Lovely little spot with really great staff and delicious food
We got greeted and sat right away. The table was still dirty and someone came over to wipe it down and left the table completely wet. We all didnt get a menu and not enough cutlery as well. We waited quite a while to get our food and when it arrived it was warm-ish. Our waitress, Ashleigh was friendly and gave great service.
Service was very friendly and prompt, attentive to our needs. Atmosphere was great, had family there and we had a great time eating good food and having laughs with the waitress. Enjoyed the experience!
My favorited breakfast place to go until today went for breakfast asked for classic over medium and white toast. When my breakfast arrived wrong toast and over easy eggs I said I would keep the toast just fix my eggs the waitress said no I will fix it all. Came back eggs were corrected but had grill black that you would clean the grill with on edges of eggs and still the wrong toast it took 3 attempts to receive the right toast very disappointed Received 5 dollars off and a free dessert totally turned off I asked if the restaurant was under new ownership the answer was yes no familiar waitress faces very disappointed.
A great find, lovely food very reasonably priced. Lovely friendly staff, even the beers good!
Great place friendly and clean.
This business has been sold to new people and is definitely not as good as the original owners. I have recommended this restaurant many times in the past, but I will no longer. Parking: Lots of spaces behind the restaurant.
Excellent eggs, pancakes, and sausages. The staff was outgoing and cheerful. 10/10 recommend.
I, like many other Cobourgians, have made the Buttermilk my main breakfast go to spot for at least the past 15 years. Its been a Cobourg landmark for nearly two decades now and has been a beloved spot to gather since it opened. One could say that Im a regular. They had the winning formula in my opinion-great value, homeade food, down to the dinner rolls, bread and desserts, cozy atmosphere, amazing wait staff and solid, if not very inventive cooking. You could count in always having an enjoyable meal there with family and friends. Today however, that has changed. When I heard the owners were selling, I was a bit ambivalent and nervous that things would change with the new ownership and today I realized that my worst fears had happened. Same atmosphere, same quick and friendly service but the food? Heres what ended up on my plate. Im a purist. I make hollandaise from scratch and eggs Benedict is my favourite so this morning I ordered my usual-vegetarian eggs Benny. Someone decided to change the hollandaise recipe and where it looked the same, it did NOT taste the same. Faintly reminiscent of a chicken soup bullion cube, I was thoroughly disappointed with the new offering. It was weird and not palatable. Previously, they had poached tomatoes in a lovely balsamic so the flavours were mature, robust with a decidedly sweet after taste. Todays dish tasted like the tomatoes were sauted in straight up vinegar. I ate one but was unable to finish the majority of the second. Even the toast was thinner. Things have changed, and not for the better as I had previously feared. To the new owner. You were sitting on a goldmine here and your returning customers know why they always returned-great food, great price, good quantity served with a smile from capable staff that always seemed happy, even at its busiest times. Youre loosing us all with these changes. Youre cheaping out and it shows. You may think that cutting corners during the summer months will be fine but winter is coming and if you lose your base, as youre doing by compromising the quality of the food youre serving, youre ultimately going to lose your business. Your repeat customers will not tolerate bad hollandaise or vinegary tomatoes. Skinny toast is cutting corners and will not sustain you throughout the winter months after the summer crowds leave. You clearly do not understand the community in which your business is located in nor do you seemingly care. The business could have run itself if you would have left it alone to function as it always has. Your base is an older population who cling to tradition and who do not welcome change to something the community has grown to love over the years. Substituting poor quality food is going to sink your business. I suggest you rethink these changes before its too late as this is a small town and everybody talks. Your reputation, one that the Mars family spent the better part of two decades perfecting, is failing and unless you want to loose your investments, change now and rethink your position. Look at the previous business model and just do that. We will not be back and I know we arent the only ones who feel this way.
It is one of the best breakfasts out there. The homemade bread and french toast were unbelievable. Reasonably priced for the amount of food.
Nice, cozy cafe. Pancakes are highly recommended.
Delicious
New owners, long time staff have quit ,new menus and prices coming which means this place will go down too bad ,been staple for cobourg for 22 yrs, new owners are already creating issues
Nice spot to stop for a bite ! We had the Chicken Club Sandwich Delicious ! They bake their own bread Friendly staff Busy little spot
I have been coming to Buttermilk Cafe for decades and always have enjoyed the food. Well tonight not so much. Three of us went in for dinner , the chicken in the Greek salad was dry and was a struggle to eat. The pork schnitzel sauce was awful my wife couldnt even eat it, the vegetables and mash potatoes were cold and tasted like they were made a long time ago. The blue pig burger was ok but they changed something in it that wasnt right. Overall this isnt the same food quality or taste that we have loved over the years. Im sad to say I dont think Ill be back. Not sure what happened there.
Great little breakfast/ brunch spot in Cobourg.
Great home cooking and friendly service. Never disappoints
Waitress was great and the food was delicious. I see why they are a recommended spot!
Good home cooking
Wonderful place to go for breakfast. They didnt rush my friends and I out. Very good food and friendly service.
Eggs benny is great
Food was amazing, quality ingredients, great presentation lovely flavour, ample portions. Extensive menu. Service was top notch and friendly. The atmosphere is homey and diner-like, perfect for a small town home style brunch. Was a bit stuffy at the very back. Front was cool and had fans. Patio out front on sidewalk. Easy parking behind, and there is a walkway through the building that takes you directly to the front door. Definitely be returning. Kid-friendliness: Suitable for kids.
Our favorite place in Cobourg.
Loved it here
Always nice Dietary restrictions: Fish is very good Wheelchair accessibility: Street level
Food is amazing. Perfect location. The service was horrible. We sat with our finished plates for close to 1 hour. Didnt want a take out container after that. They need to have more staff on the floor. Food
Excellent meal and great service
Cute breakfast diner in downtown Cobourg. Shaded sidewalk patio available. Friendly service. Breakfast and lunch menu available when I went. Waffles were crispy on the outside and light on the inside. Pancakes are large and fluffy. Large servings. Food : 5/5
Delicious breakfast. Love their big breakfast and pancakes. Always do my bacon well done, and its the only place Ive been to that actually does just that! Service is friendly. I still need to try their desserts.
Went for breakfast yesterday, it doesn t seem the same as it was for previous visits. People love consistency, that s what keeps customers loyal.. unfortunately this visit was not consistent. We got sat right away, which is great but ended up having to wait quite a while to order, it s busy. We get, no worries! We also observed many other tables that seemed to be waiting for things like ketchup, coffee cream and other fixings. When our food arrived it was lukewarm at best, the hollandaise sauce tasted different than it always has, the potatoes were all different sizes which resulted in the smaller ones being cooked through and the large ones being raw. Other things to note, it was a different server walking the food, which in theory is fine! Help your fellow servers! If you have time to talk, you have time to walk But this mixed with the lukewarm food tells me that our food was sitting there for some time because our sever was too busy getting sat the entire patio and half of the dining room at the same time.. who likes being quadruple sat? I had a very brief chance to chat with the server at the end of our meal and I asked why are you serving the patio and half the dining room? She told me that there are only two servers who open in the morning and other servers trickle in throughout the morning. As someone who worked as a server, bartender and hostess for several years, this was baffling to me! Two servers on a Saturday morning of a long weekend? No wonder she seemed frantic. I suggest you speak with your veteran servers to come up with a better game plan - they probably know what s best for the restaurant more than the new* owners do.. ask them what is and is not working, consider split shifts if you don t already have them and consider smaller sections so your servers don t have to be 40 places at once.. especially until the newer servers can get caught up to the hustle and bustle. All of that being said, our server was amazing as always, just far too busy for the abysmal plan of the day.
Small entrance that opens up. Food was fantastic. Family had the fish n chips special which was fresh. I had an open faced sandwich which had enough sauce that it didnt drown.
Well this is incredibly unfortunate, buttermilk has been the place to go for breakfast and lunch since I can remember. So many family memories here of great food and great service, we would go every single week but now it s looking like the place is doomed to fail since the new owners started messing with it. The long time servers we have known for years are visibly frustrated and exhausted constantly, they used to be the happiest and most pleasant people we would see every week and now since the new owners it is obvious they aren t treating the staff properly and I won t stand for that. I hope management is reading this, I can easily make your food in my home, we go to support the staff that we ve known for years. And seeing how you treat them disgusts me, those ladies will have absolutely no issue finding another job since they are the reason buttermilk was so successful. But you will have destroyed one of the best restaurants in all of Cobourg, hopefully they get it together before it too late. With that said I already know several other family s that have stopped going every week so I think it s just a matter of time at this point. So unbelievably sad to see this happen to what was such an incredible restaurant
My family and I went here for a family birthday. Food was borderline inedible. Potatos looked like instant potatoes. Chicken was rubbery and the bread was rock hard. The smell of bad fish coming from the back of the place was worrying. I used to love breakfast here when I was younger but Ill never eat here again. Everyone felt sick from the little we did eat.
The food and service was very good and Laura was especially nice
Soggy fries and Chicken breast
Waited in line a long time, many large tables were seating only 2 people for no known, reason were seated vs us. Our table of 6 eventually sat and again waited almost 30 minutes for a server to approach our table, we were chatting and not upset but coffee would have been nice. Food was excellent,
We visited Cobourg beach and stopped by this diner as it was close by. We got seated pretty quick and our server was super friendly. She reguarly checked in to make sure we were content with our food and was very fun to talk with! Recommend the chicken parm as it was wonderful! It was a great end to our day. We definitely stumbled on a hidden gem in Cobourg and will definitely be back.
A local who supports local businesses to ensure the good ones survive. This is not a review on service since the ladies we ve dealt with over the yrs. are amazing. We go for breakfast so we can start it with a smile and positive energy. Like someone else said, the food we can make it at home. The issue is the change in ownership. So you buy a thriving business because you did your due diligence and accepted it s a great restaurant to buy that will make you money. Then you take over and start changing things to increase your profit margin but instead you begin turning people away, but more importantly the locals. Who will become very important to you when the tourist season is done. The locals will be ones who get you through the winter and without them, you go bankrupt. They ve been noticing the changes you re making and it s not for the good. Wake up and smell the coffee the great ladies make, before it s too late. Oh stay out of the kitchen! You re not a cook!!
Awful experience here & the reviews are amazing so I was SO disappointed. I came here on the holiday Monday. After mostly everything downtown cobourg was closed after a day at the beach. The only fast part about this service was the owner who sat us quick and brought us water. After that we were given a young male servicer who made this whole experience awful. First off I ordered a Cesar MILD (the drink) and we all proceeded to order our meals. I never received my Cesar after 20 minutes waiting. I went into the restaurant as I was on the patio and told them not even to worrry about it. My server proceeded to say I gave you your Cesar meaning my Cesar salad our drinks weren t even taken out before our salads so that showed a whole issue. I said I asked for a mild Cesar the drink when you came to the table he proceeded to say yes I totally remember now I m so sorry instead of the restaurant bringing me a drink and maybe comping it, 1 hour went by and no FOOD was brought to our table other then the salads we got 10 minutes after ordering when walking inside to use the bathroom you bypass a kitchen and there was nobody in the kitchen/any food cooking. We proceeded to leave $10 on the table for our salads, and left. Our server walked by us multiple times not brining bread or anything to hold us over. Very sad because this place has good reviews but the place wasn t even that busy and over the hour we sat outside NO food was brought out to anybody else either & the dining room inside was not busy. Wouldn t return & honestly lucky I even left $10 for the awful service I was given with no explanation or concern.
This is our usual breakfast place. Over the past months the food quality has really gone down hill. The poached eggs are made in an oven. The bacon is kept in an oven warmer and usually isn t fresh and the home fries lately have been burnt. The serving sizes have diminished as well. The staff are amazing and always attentive. It s unfortunate that food quality has changed as my family has now found a new Sunday place to go to.
Its a beautiful Monday morning in August and the patio is closed. We like to walk to cafes and have breakfast with the dog. The other downtown cafe patios were all packed. Bery disappointed. We wont be back!!!
Great location! Outdoor patio! Excellent food at reasonable prices! Impeccable service!
Wonderful location in downtown Cobourg!
Amazing meal had here. Best Ive eaten when out in a very long time. I had the brushetta chicken dish, my partner had the all canadian hamburger. Yum yum!
Forget the big chain breakfast places, this is the real deal. The first test of a great breakfast place - coffee, most fail but not Buttermilk. Our server Laura, was amazing. The food was great and exactly how we wanted. Nice extra touches with 18% cream, 12 grain bread (among 4 choices). Friendly atmosphere and cozy vibe!!
Great place for breakfast. Excellent service
Wonderful pancakes and service
The staff at buttermilk are always very pleasant and accommodating but the food has gone down hill we had our 50th wedding anniversary meal and was very disappointing. 22 June 24
Canada Day 2024!!! It was crazy busy but when you have a young lady like Sierra keeping things organized you have nothing to worry about. Sierra recommended the Homemade Blueberry Pancakes (almost everything here is homemade) which were next level. I had the Farm House Breakfast (huge) and it was delicious. The 12 grain homemade bread was so soooo good! Quinton was our server and he deserves kudos as he was a great server. You can tell he is a seasoned person in the industry. We will definitely be back to try the Carrot Cake!!!!
super friendly waitresses quick food large menu!!
Family diner, we sat on the streetside patio. Service was busy but correct and pleasant. Washrooms were clean. Had a early lunch special of decent quiche and excellent salad.
Visiting Cobourg from out of town, we were quite disappointed after reading some of the positive reviews. The service was slow, and despite being a table of 4, we only ordered for 2.5. Other tables that sat after us received their food before us. The food itself was bland and unimpressive. The homemade rye bread was nothing special, the white bread was burnt, and my sons kids eggs with potatoes seemed to be just burnt potato scraps. The potatoes that werent burnt lacked flavor. While the typical breakfast fare wasnt the issue, the service certainly was. We were greeted by a new employee, which was fine, but she seated us in an out-of-the-way corner. It felt like they didnt want our kids near other patrons. The biggest issue was our waitress, who appeared disgruntled. She didnt greet us, brought coffee, took our orders, and then disappeared. The food took an exceptionally long time to arrive, despite our simple order of bacon, eggs, sausage, and a side of French toast. Additionally, she never came back to clear our dishes. I rearranged the dirty dishes myself to help her do her job. I left her a minimal tip, which was more than she deserved. We wont be coming back here when we visit Cobourg again.
Busy on rainy day weekend. Perfect full breakfast!
Great service, awesome food, perfect location.
Delicious food, friendly staff, and a cozy homey atmosphere. Great place! Kid-friendliness: They have high chairs for younger kids and colouring for bigger kids Food : 5/5 |
Not bad.. server was great my order wasnt right toast was hard.
Absolutely delicious breakfast! Had a spinach omelette and the pancake eggs Benny
Wonderful and welcoming! Had a lovely brunch and dinner on two occasions with my family. Laura was an amazing host! Would 100% visit whenever Im in the city!
This weekend we went twice for breakfast. We were attended to promptly and service both times was exceptional. Two different servers, both equally wonderful. Ample food portions and able to adjust order specific to the clients needs. 2 hr free parking in rear. Great overall experience.
Best breakfast and best service I have had in a very long time. Period. Today we went for the 2nd time. Did I say best service?... maybe outstanding service and excellent food describes it better. I will certainly be back.
My friend and I had a great meal and great service from Jennifer. Our first time here but we will return.
Best place ever, feels like home. All the staff here are incredibly kind and hardworking. Their pancakes are heaven sent !
Came for dinner and the food was incredible. Huge portions that I could not finish. Fairly priced as well.
This is a follow-up to my previous 2023 review: Visited a couple of times in 2024 over the past 3 to 4 months. The quality of the food has deteriorated significantly to the point that we don t intend to return. A Chicken Cacciatore which was said to contain white meat only, did not, and some parts were inedible. A Mac and Cheese dish was bland and undercooked.Very disappointing, but we did give the Cafe a second chance which only confirmed our disappointment. Latest visit, May 12th 2023: Visited Buttermilk this evening, all aspects were excellent ! Our server, Jenn, very capably looked after us in a friendly personable way. Previous visit, some time ago: Our party of four visited Buttermilk Cafe for dinner and enjoyed a delightful experience of the best in food and service. We each ordered different dishes, and we were all equally impressed. Food presentation was exceptional. This restaurant will be on our list for regular visits.
Great place to eat after visiting the cobourg Beach! Great homestyle food at good prices.
All the locals go here but it s very mid
Not impressed with the eggs and very dry home fries
I had the best clubhouse sandwich ever on homemade fresh bread it was the best May 30th 2024, service was Top Notch. Thank you
Great Benedict choices, try the pancake sausage for a remarkable breakfast Vegetarian options: Clear accommodating for vegetarians Dietary restrictions: The kitchen is more than accommodating Parking: Hey, massive parking lot right behind the restaurant Kid-friendliness: High chairs and great personal service Wheelchair accessibility: Easy to roll a wheelchair
Great place!
The food is SO good. Service was lovely and we ll be back when we re in Cobourg again. Kid-friendliness: Crayons and paper provided. Great portions of the kids menu items too.
i absolutely love it here. the pancakes are unlike any other anywhere else, and the bacon is one of the best bacon i ve ever had at a breakfast place. the atmosphere is amazing both inside and out on the patio, and it s always somewhat busy which makes sense, because it s such a great place!!! i love coming here.
Really good food - nice atmosphere
Excellent place to go eat. Staff were very friendly, service was great. Definitely will go back.
Very accommodating, somehow our reservation wasn t logged into book but they made it right and got us a table within 5 min. Food and service was excellent! Highly recommend
I only had a cup of coffee.
When arriving at 10:30am on Thursday May 9th was told by young man who seated me there was a reservation at 11:30, I said well pretty sure I can finish within an hour. When I enquired where my food was as it took a while he said well I can change the reservation but that this was a warning!?! Like what? Who talks to a customer this way. I visit Cobourg often I assure you I will NEVER come back to this Cafe. You need to teach your staff respect for your customers!
Ive been to The Buttermilk Cafe a few times and the food is always delicious and friendly service. Prices are very reasonable.
The service was excellent and the food was tasty
Damn good
Great little diner, decent portion sizes We had: Cod Fish wrap Blueberry pancakes Soup of day made from scratch: Chicken noodle soup Creme.brule (which 3 of us shared) Was great atmosphere with great want staff
Service is great. Food is solid. Whats not to like? We always visit when were in town.
Came to Cobourg for the first time and went for brunch with the family. It was a Sunday and they where very busy, 45 minute wait. Pretty average for a hopping brunch spot. The service was quick and friendly, the atmosphere felt cosy. Now the food, I am someone who gets Eggs Benedict every new brunch spot I visit. These where wonderful. My first day was poached perfectly, nice and soft for the egg yolk.... Second one was hard, mistakes happen, still delicious though. The Hollandaise sauce was creamy and flavorful. Many places that Ive been to dont give you enough sauce but they load you up here! The home fries were some of the best Ive had in a very long time. On one hand I wish there was more but on the other hand the portion size was perfect. I was stuffed. This place was great and I look forward to going to it again.
I always go to restaurants for breakfast, lunch, dinner but this restaurant one of the best places for breakfast.. I really love the egg Benedict and pancakes
Came here by myself for breakfast while visiting Cobourg and had a great meal. Staff were friendly, price was reasonable, food was delicious. Not much more I could have asked for .
Our group of 7 all agreed... best breakfast anywhere!
Excellent service and awe some food Food
Great little cozy spot for breakfast. We stopped here on our way to Montreal. Anytime were on vacation we always make a point to stop by the independent restaurants and this one didnt disappoint. Food was great, service was friendly and I am looking forward to the Triple R pudding we got to go! Big breakfast and eggs Benedict was our order. I love how the big breakfast comes with double meat portions and the blueberry pancake was a perfect finish. We arrived 20 minutes after opening and they were already somewhat busy with a few tables already reserved. If you want a spot between 9 and 11, you might want to make a reservation as around 10 I saw a small lineup. Parking: Strtte parking was plentiful when we went, early April on a weekend.
What a great little spot. We stopped in on our way from Toronto to Montreal. The pancakes are everything you ve ever dreamed of! Staff are all super sweet and the other guests were very warm and welcoming toward us and our kids.
First time visited this place, food was amazing and a quick service even during the rush lunch hours. We tried chicken pazano flatbread (the one in the picture) and chicken walnut quesdilla. Portion was pretty good, flatbread on the side was seriously fresh. Ended with a lemon pie which was perfect with the right amount of tangy and sweet flavor. Very reasonably priced compared to other places. Will be coming back for sure.
My 4th visit...my new favourite restaurant. Tonight there were 8 of us including a 9 and 12 yr old. No complaints only compliments. Our waitress Kelley..was very attentive. The worst part of our dinner was trying to decide between butterfried chicken or chicken parmesan. Every dish that is served is made up in the kitchen including buns..corn bread..salad dressings etc. Even the men didnt finish their plates...saving room for dessert
The Pancake and Sausage Bennie was delicious and very filling.
Great
Great breakfasts, great service, could be nicer inside but very clean.
We have been here a couple of times from out of town. Food is great and well priced for large portions. We will be back again.
Great food. Homemade! Large portions and great staff. Prices are amazing too!
Great food, generous portions and lovely service. An easy, and cheap breakfast or lunch option for anyone in coburg!
Have been there twice , food was great , large portions, service was good will definitely go back
Went for brunch it was delicious, worth the wait for a table.
Another 5 the place is a gold mine. Always lined up because it so good!
Great food.
Really love this place! Had a great time catching up with a very good friend while enjoying wonderful food at incredibly low prices! Will go again for sure!
The place was clean, service was outstanding. Food quality & quantity was uncompromised. Nothing like good old home cooking. We need more places like that. Last but least the owners wife was so friendly. We found a new spot for our monthly breakfast.
Delicious food in a homey comfortable atmosphere! Great staff, very friendly!
Food was great. Service was a little slow.
This place certainly hit the spot. Loved the pancakes with blueberries . Also loved the fresh 12 grain bread, which tasted home made! The potatoes could have been chopped and fried more to avoid being to potato-y. All around cute spot to enjoy a big decadent breakfast!
First of all the server was very friendly and helpful when i asked for suggestions. The chicken pazzano that she recommended was so delicious!! I enjoyed it so much that on the drive home I called my mom to recommend it to her! Parking: I parked on the street at a paid spot. Im not sure if there was anything else available.
Best meatloaf Ive had in my entire life. No exaggeration. Our server Jennifer was incredible and clearly loves the job.
The best buttermilk pancakes and service !
Amazing always. Service, homemade bread, fast and consistent.
Best brunch in Cobourg
I had a good veggie burger.
Excellent service and food taste great. Was a bit hot in the front window at first but on the plus side might have got a bit of a winter sun tan.
Excellent food. The best service I have had in a restaurant in years. The southern fried chicken was a hit at our table. Kid-friendliness: Good kids menu. Very accommodating to families.
Such a great experience! Highly recommend to try their toast and pancake. Generous portions. Cannot finish one dish per person.
Absolutely love this place for breakfast. Ive been here twice and Im a big eggs Benny fan and I love their Hollandaise sauce. Great portions and fresh home fries . Everytime I go there Im planning my next visit. Super friendly and polite staff as well. 10/10 would recommend
This is a great spot for great food and service.
Old-style restaurant with modern menu. Busy at lunchtime. They will take reservations, though. Food
Some great friends of our just moved to Cobourg and wanted us to try this iconic cafe and it sure didnt disappoint. I had the big breakfast and it was a huge not big portion and it was fantastic. When we visit them again we will definitely come here again.
Love this little breakfast spot. The menu is simple but still gives lot of options. The food is always perfect and the servers are fun. Definitely recommend
Food was great and came pretty quick. Chicken noodle soup was fire. Took kinda long to be seated despite a lot of empty tables(not reserved).

Great place if your visiting Cobourg to go for breakfast! ..Quality is very good & Quantity is great!! ..well worth it!..
Beautiful nostalgic spot. Food was excellent. Ad a bread maker, the bread for their clubhouse was topnotch. Would definitely come back. Food
Love the homestyle cooking and large portion sizes. I frequently stop here when in town and am never disappointed.
Excellent French toat, reasonable prices.
Enjoyed our delicious breakfasts and coffee at this cute little cafe. The meat hash and eggs as well as the benedicts were spot on. Will return whenever we re around. Thanks.
Lovely cafe in the downtown area with an extensive menu. Easy to find street pay parking and there is a free lot behind the building. We found this out from some really friendly locals that we shared a table with. Food was huge portions and totally delicious. Had the club sandwich with fries and they poutined it up for me. Friendly staff, lots of locals, nice patio. Will visit again if in the area.
Stopped in for lunch on the random recommendation of a local person. Super friendly cheerful waitress. Delicious food. Ample serving sizes. Homemade desserts, dressings, etc. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. Food
Thank you for being fully accessible and inclusive. We loved everything about your destination and will return. Parking: Hard to find on street but plenty in back across the road. Wheelchair accessibility: Excellent accessibility and inclusive Good job and thanks for being accessible.
Great homemade bread! Excellent breakfast
I am not familiar with Cobourg, but I went to sell a collection of items I no longer needed. I found this cafe across the street and ventured in. They had a lot of food options. I had a vegetarian tartine that was delicious. My wife had the quesadillas and enjoyed them. The staff was very friendly. The downtown was very busy which is a good sign of a prosperous town. I hear it is a nice place to check the beach area.
Second review. We came back a 2nd time as we were passing through. Excellent food and excellent service. We love it here. First review: Janet, our server, is my new best friend. Excellent service, yummy food and perfect little patio. Would easily come back here again! Perfect place for a Sunday lunch. Simple eats but delicious! Thanks Janet for making our afternoon so lovely (and you should ask for a raise )
Pleasant surprise. Service was good and food was excellent. Definitely a homemade difference right down to the buns.
I have been going here for years, im in love with the eggs Florentine, they also have gluten free bread and awesome burgers and sweet potato fries
Amazing home cooked food. Super friendly staff and great prices. If you order the Farmhouse platter, you better be hungry. Food

Everything was fresh
We had a terrific lunch here. Great food and reasonably priced. Servers were super friendly and helpful. We will plan to drop by here again when we are driving past Cobourg.
My favourite place ever!
Wonderful, super friendly and delicious place in Cobourg! Perfect for early bird families like us! But attention: their portions are HUGE!!! Food : 5/5
Big portions and reliably good food. Bread is baked in house. You can never go wrong with a sandwich or Omelette. My favorite has always been the eggs Benedict. Easy crowd pleaser for people out of town. Recognizable favorites but unique as to not feel like any other restaurant
We went to Cobourg for a show this past Saturday night. Walking about town Saturday morning we stopped into Buttermilk Cafe. At the time 10ish we didnt have to wait. We had the pancakes and Eggs Benedict. We left full and happy with the Food and Service. I am sure we will make our way back soon. :) BTW on the way out there was around 15 people waiting to get into the Cafe. Busy place is normally a good Please as in this case.
Great spot to bring overnight guests for breakfast or brunch.
Never surprises to amaze me with the food served here
Doesnt get better than this. Delicious food you can depend upon. The staff is exceptional. Its the perfect place to take yourself or your guests.
Favourite palace for breakfast
Fantastic restaurant - always great foor & great service.
Absolutely delicious underpriced home made food with a chef that wanders out of his kitchen when he isn t busy to ask if your food is ok. Omg! FABULOUS! It s like time has turned back. You have to try this place.
Nice little restaurant in downtown Cobourg, great food, excellent atmosphere and friendly service. Our party was quite large(12) and everyone was very pleased with there dinner and the service. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. Well definitely be returning. Thanks for great evening.
Good food good vibes.

What a cozy and lovely spot! We had the farmers breakfast platter and it was absolutely delicious. Such sweet service staff as well. Highly recommend! Blue pancakes and their homemade toasts are definitely a highlight.
