This restaurant unfortunately went downhill. The menu has been reduced dramatically. On top of that, none of the mains were available. There was also limited drinks available. 4 out of 12 meals game late. We finished (because we were hangry at time). The remaining meals didnt come until over an hour later. We were afraid to look at them as they would have bit our heads off. First night of kitchen staff for a full Friday night went horribly wrong. We had been coming here for years but have to tap out.

Ive eaten here three times so far. The food has been consistently good. The service can be a little spotty, with young and inexperienced servers. My most recent visit resulted in a nearly hour long wait for food, which was concerning. Our server explained that the kitchen was down to a single person. Overall the prices are comparable to similar restaurants and as I mentioned, the food has always been very good. Parking: There is a free public lot one block east of the restaurant.

The food was good but it took almost 40 minutes to come.my only complaint is that the shrimp tacos were a little too salty. Overall great restaurant .I highly recommend this place.

When I read on the menu that they had rosemary lamb, I was very excited to try it. Had dinner at the El restaurant tonight, and was very disappointed when the lamb was presented to me, the plate was boring with no colour just brown and green, and the only vegetable was asparagus, not even an accompaniment of au jus to enjoy with the lamb, not worth the price on the menu and left unsatisfied.The goat cheese and beet salad was colourful, delicious and enjoyed.

The best restaurant in Cobourg, hands down. Their Korean Chicken Bowl is a must-try, and the ambiance is perfect for a cozy night out. If youre in Cobourg, this is the place to be for delicious food and top-notch service. Highly recommended!!

Not a flawless first visit but definitely a good enough experience that Ill try it again. Lets get the not-so-great parts out of the way: our table of three all wanted burgers but were only told upon ordering that they ran out of beef. So that wouldve been nice to know from the start. Washrooms needed some attention. And it was a long wait today... for our group and some others we noticed. Even just a small recognition of that during our wait would have been a nice touch. Now lets get to the good stuff! Staff were very friendly and mostly attentive. We were never without water or refills. And when the food came? Top notch. I had shrimp tacos no notes, just get them, enjoy and ask for extra napkins. My friends had the clubhouse and crispy chicken sandwiches respectively and they looked great. And I know the fries were delicious and fresh because I sampled. Overall, fair to good experience and I will definitely give The EL another shot when Im in the area.

We had an amazing time at The El tonight, we were heading to our engagement photo shoot and went in to get a quick drink for liquid courage. The bar tender Neve was incredibly kind and was very knowledgeable on the cocktail menu. We will definitely be back thanks to her amazing hospitality!

We came out on a Monday after a busy weekend. The food was great! I had the Korean bowl and my husband has the Angry Bird sandwich and truffle fries, both were delicious. I had a jalapeño margarita and he had a rum punch. Our waitress was quick and attentive and gave good recommendations. We would definitely come back if we are in town again. We were so hungry we forgot to take pictures but it was really good!

Stopped into cobourg, Ontario and found the El. Three things. The seating outside is not good, hard seats. Second do not spray cleaner open handed around peoples drinks and food, when cleaning a table. Big no, no third the price is up there for appetizers. It costs $22.00 for three little tiny tacos. 7 bucks a piece for tiny tacos, with no sides with it. French fries would be good. Dont get me wrong, tacos wheres really good. But not enough for the price. We hit arbys after we ate here if you got money burning a hole in your pocket, great place for a light snack.

A wee bit crowded in the seating area but a good vibe. Chicken Caesar salad was very nice with a lovely full chicken breast so my belly was happy. I tried my friends truffle fries and I will have to come back some day for that!

Very nice little restaurant. Very warm welcome, attentive staff. I ordered a tuna poke, and it was some of the tastiest Ive ever had in my life. I recommend without reservation. Parking: You have to park on the street, but we had no problem finding a space (on a Sunday lunchtime).

Amazing Amazing customer care Caitlin went out of her way to get chef to prepare vegan meal for me as we traipsed all along Kijg St and couldnt get anything. Meal was absolutely fantastic, service 10stars and turned a testy lunch moment into a wonderful dining experience. Kudos all round!!! Vegetarian options: Made meal vegan supplied great tofu

Had a great lunch here. The food was fantastic, portion sizes were just right and the service was excellent. I would recommend eating here, I will definitely be back the next time I visit Cobourg.

My husband and I ate here for dinner last night and it was such a great experience and meal! Such kind staff who were very accommodating, and I will be craving that fried chicken sandwich until I get to eat it again!

Was excited to try this place and was disappointed first at the 40 plus minute wait, for the prices we were expecting gourmet food and we were saddened to receive bland food with mayo poured all over it. We had to leave after a few bites it was close to inedible. The overarching word that comes to mind is disappointment.

Hubby and I got the mushroom burger, his beef, mine vegetarian. Both of us were amazed. One of the best beef burgers he has had and the best vegetarian burger I have ever had. Fries were great too.

Visited El for the first time today for lunch. It was a great experience. The drinks, food and service were all excellent! Will definitely be back!

I ordered take out (Lemon Linguine). It was fabulous! Very tasty and a good portion size! Shrimp was excellent. It has a bit of a kick to it. Just perfect!

You need to keep your business hours updated. I went today (December 27th) at 1:00pm and you were closed - however, your business hours say open at 12:00

Service was good, over priced and over rated. Food though, never had a chicken club on a burger.. wasnt a club was a fried chicken burger... reallly guys $20 thats a 13$ meal maximum. Menu is limited not much chouces available. We wont recommend and wont come back. Got trapped by the nice pics unfortunately.

This little restaurant is a place where no matter what food or drinks you order, you know it will be amazing. Not a bad thing on the menu and the staff could not be any more accommodating than they are. Highly recommend! We will most definitely be going back.

Party of 6 for dinner. Small cozy restaurant. A bit of a wait for seating (which we knew couldnt be helped). We all agreed that the food was amazing. Vegetarian options: I requested that a vegetarian option be made vegan. No problem, was great!

We enjoyed the atmosphere, and the funky art. The food is more on the pricey side, but it s good food. The freshness and quality is there. Highly recommend the Barnyard Burger. The Korean Fried Chicken bowl had good flavour, the rice was a bit lacking and seemed to have taken away from the dish. But, the rest of it made up for it. The truffle fries were also a hit. Would definitely return again.

The truffle fries are to die for! They remind me of the fries that are serve in Amsterdam. I also had the Lavender Haze drink and anything named after a Taylor Swift song is a must try for me. It had a beautiful floral smell and tasted amazing not to mention it was picture perfect. A must stop spot the next time youre in Cobourg.

We visited this place because the location was used in a show that we watch on Netflix Ginny and Georgia. We were not expecting much but to our surprise, the food was fantastic, ingredients were fresh and our Server was on point. The ambience was cozy and background music was perfect. We ordered the Original hamburger and blackened chicken sandwich.

One of our favourite places in Cobourg. Anytime we feel like going out for a night this is one of our first choices in town.

My wife and I went back to the El the other day and we both tried their Korean Fried Chicken bowl and the coconut shrimp as an appetizer that we split. Both dishes were winners!! Great place and Kassie our waitress was fantastic! Highly recommended for great food and service.

We came here with some friends who live in the area this past Saturday for dinner and a few drinks. The menu had some great selections, but we opted for the chicken sandwiches which were out of this world! We also tried the brussel sprouts which were amazing and the garlic shrimp appetizer (as for some extra bread if you order this because the sauce is fantastic). Atmosphere was cozy, service was on point and the cocktail and beer menu was very good!

Just such a nice experience. Warm and inviting, staff is so welcoming and the food was excellent. Shoutout to Kassi for being a really bitchin server.

We went to The El for a bachelorette dinner. The place was SO accommodating and welcoming. They ensured we had everything we needed and was well taken care of! We definitely recommend coming here for a bite to eat, the food was DELICIOUS!

Traveling through the area, on our way home to Maine, and we were looking for a good spot to eat So glad we chose The El. Lovely patio, service was great & very friendly, welcoming vibe. Huge bonus, the patio was dog friendly & our server treated our dog like a valued guest (which we appreciate!). Food was delicious. Perfect cheeseburger! Cocktails were high quality & so well made! Highly recommend the Lavender Haze. Would absolutely make this a regular visit if we lived near.

We had a nice waitress but when we came here, it took quite a while before we could give our order, then had to wait 40 mins total for all our items. The food was excellent, but I felt the Korean crispy chicken bowl could have had a bit more considering it was $24. Even just some more rice, which I found too overcooked and porridge-y. My friend ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, which he liked but said could have used a bit less sauce as the patty was drenched and it soaked the bun a bit too much, making it soggy. The Brussel sprouts were the appetizer but came in last, so I was a bit too full to finish it. It was very rich but excellent flavour. Wouldve been best at the beginning of the meal.

We had tried this place based on reviews. But the experience could have been better. Food was average. We ordered burger and red curry and fries food could be more flavorful and tasty. Place is little under staffed. Staff spent too much time in chit chatting rather attending tables. We had to wait long time for water and other stuff.

Visited late on Friday April 28th. Staff (Rachel & the manager- don t remember his name) was exceptional - friendly and knowledgeable. They were closing and allowed the 4 of us to finish our drinks and food. Definitely will return.

First and foremost our Waitress was exceptional friendly honest and very good at her job. The food was new to us Korean themed but also some more traditional fried chicken burger (huge portion) We met some really nice fellow dinners and shared some wine all in all it was quite an enjoyable visit to this restaurant, well be back for sure. Parking: A bit crowded for parking but after 6 pm I believe its free street parking

6 for lunch. Started with the Truffle Fries to share around while we waited for our mains. Also because the wonderful smell of truffles was on the air. The service was friendly, attentive but on overly so. Everyone was happy with their choices which included the Korean burger, Chicken Club, and the Black & Blue. Beverage wise, those who ordered cocktails were happy. There were some craft beers on tap that were unfamiliar to me and the server was quick to offer me a sample of a couple.

Fantastic place with the friendliest staff. It was busy so I recommend making a reservation if you go during the weekend. Great food and delicious mocktail options

Ive been to the EL Cobourg a number of times, and each time both service and food was consistently stellar. Among the sea of franchised restos, this gem is the kind of European dining experience Im after. The wait for good food well prepared, rather than banged on a grill from the freezer, has never been overly long when Ive been there. The service every single time has been wonderful. Chill, relaxed interactions with wait staff who offer excellent recommendations on drinks to go with your food choices and who are attentive and friendly. They dont chase you out after your meal, even though they are often busy and fully booked. I find it interesting that many reviews refer to the expense of the food, Priced (slightly) higher than franchises, sure, but with so much more bounce for the ounce, it doesnt bear comparing. I aim to try everything on the menu, but the Truffle fries should be on the table always, Caesar Salad was perfect and the Fish Tacos are to die for. My pals and I now have an understanding the we will always order Fish Tacos to share, as an appetizer along with our mains. Cocktails and Mocktails are great, but I prefer wine and their beer selection is wonderful. I think theyve nailed the whole vibe. Local biz values, happy staff means good management and they survived the pandemic closures, a phenomenal feat. I wish them years and years of success as I intend to keep them on speed dial! No pics this time, food was gone too fast... maybe next time.

Kameron our server was incredible! Answered all our questions regarding food and drinks and made phenomenal recommendations! Food was flavorful, seasoned well and came out at a good pace considering how busy they were. Had two cocktails; peach Marg and Blueberry Marg both fantastic and they offset each other nicely. Will be back for sure. Thanks so much Kameron and the rest of the staff!

Arrived late evening in Cobourg (8:30). Most places seemed closed or not interested in taking more customers. The EL was great and hospitable. Nice beer selection. Follow-up: we returned for dinner with a group of 10. I can say that the dinner exceeded each persons expectations. Highly recommend.

The truffle fries are really good! Well made fries with a sauce that doesnt aim for subtle. This is a truffle fix! You will not be wondering what the fries would be like with more truffle flavor. The burgers are like I would have at home if I had mad skills. Certainly worth another visit. There was a wait, but in the real world sometimes that just happens.

Burger was burnt, the salad had rotten leaves in it, the beer was mediocre. Very cute atmosphere. Took over an hour for the food. Will never go back again

After spending the day at the beach, this spot is just what I needed. Great island atmosphere, music and art. Food & drinks were delicious and the staff were very friendly. I will come back whenever Im visiting Cobourg beach

The Caesar was incredible. The angry chicken burger was great. Maybe a bit too much sauce on it. Overall, its still tasty. The truffle fries were top tier. The salad was better than anticipated for a house salad. Would recommend and will certainly be back.

Fantastic night out! The El has such amazing and unique food! Thank you so much to the kitchen staff for knocking it out of the park yet again! Our servers were so patient with us while we took a billion years to order. Thank you for providing us with such great service and continuing to check on us! We were in Brighton visiting family but we had to leave to go back to London. Kids were starving and so were the adults....but apparently every restaurant is closed Mondays in all the towns around that area. We finally found The EL. The vibe and atmosphere of this small restaurant is great. We liked the art work on the walls. The service was a little slow but they were friendly. We ordered and thats when it happened. The most delicious food was delivered to us and after one bite of my burger and truffle fries we decided we must kidnap this chef and bring her back to London. It was so frinkin good. Just unreal. I actually asked to speak to the chef to tell her how good it was. Its really all I have thought about for two weeks. I hate that I dont go to coburg very often but when we do pass by it, we are going here.

burgers are good, the angry bee and Korean burger is delicious but it s soooo damn expensive for just a burger because you barely get any fries with it. Probably 6 fries.. I m exaggerating but for real, the fry portion is smaller than a kids fry the last few times I ordered. Maybe the cooks helped themselves, I don t know but the price should be reduced drastically for like 10-14. Almost 25 bucks for a burger, that is insane Mr Gordon Ramsay.

The food was very good, but def. On the higher cost end. Small resturant but a nice atmosphere. Its very noisy at lunch, so its not a great place for conversation. The server had the restaurant all by her self so no need to expand. Dont think i would go back.

There is something about small cozy restaurants in small towns that is so charming. We chose to sit inside rather than out on the patio. And it was the right decision. Literally 5 minutes later we had the worst thunderstorm pass. The small, but cozy, interior made it a nice setting. The beers on tap were all craft beer. Great ones at that. The menu was limited, but good selection. The portions were good with food that tickled the taste buds. Service was very cheerful and friendly. Definitely worth visiting again foebthe overall experience

Oh La la!! The EL is simply one of the most mouth watering restaurants that you d ever want to eat in. Alex (who has two master degrees btw) was superb at her service and suggestions from the menu. The owner his wife were very welcoming and best of all, their food is delicious. Their spicy Angry Bird and Grilled Chicken & Brie sandwiches are unexplainably tasty, even their salad and Brussel Sprout salad (big thanks for their chef!) A fruity beer In the cloud completed the deal. Food, location, ambience, price, all summed up simply in one word Magnifique! . We are definitely coming back.

Delicious food and great service in a very relaxed atmosphere. The winter salad and mahi mahi tacos were excellent. We came back two days later for more! Only negative is they had very small bathrooms and no change tables, so something to consider if youre going with kids.

I was really looking forward this restaurant and Im very disappointed. The prices are way too high for the poor quality of food and service. I ordered a burger, the patty fell apart into 20 pieces immediately and I had to eat it with a fork and knife. My son ordered the Shrimp Linguine which was underwhelming and a very small portion for one of their most expensive menu items. My Husbands fish and chips was very dry and overcooked, etc. The food and drinks took a long time to come to the table as well. We were looking for our server most of the meal so we could get napkins, another drink etc. Their drinks were expensive but decent! Overall not recommend!

Service was really good and so was the food. Its a bit on the higher end but was worth it! Very filling and super flavourful. I love that they give you 2 different bottles of hot sauce without asking; The sauces were a Sorrento and Habanero and extremely tastey. It is a smalled space and I was pretty much touching chairs with the person behind me, and is not wheelchair friendly.

One of our go-to places for take-out (we havent done a ton of eating in) since we moved to Cobourg last Fall. Consistently good food and my 5 year-old especially loves their fries. We have had only one concerning issue (they changed their veggie burger and my wife, a vegetarian much preferred the previous one) but management AND the owner called me directly to discuss and make things right. In fact they went above and beyond, which was appreciated. Highly recommended.

Delicious food. Great service. They closed early (8pm) so check before you go. Kitchen is small and if it s busy, food takes awhile (45 min +) but they told us and brought some tortilla chips while we had to wait. Very unique flavours combinations. Tuna poke and shrimp tacos were yummy but spicy even when we asked for spicy on the side. Tuna tartar is yummy too - little small so plan accordingly. 2 kids menu choices for $10 (daily promo) - it was pasta or burger. Summer salad was amazing. Cute small place with great music, decor and great customer care.

We enjoyed the Tuna Poke bowl and the blackened chicken with a side summer salad. My husband drove downtown looking for a nice fresh lunch and we were not disappointed! Our server was holding down the fort on her own but still managed to get us satiated within a reasonable time. Awesome service and food!!

I was going to rate 3.2 but was unable to. The burger was okay, the salad was average for $20 + tax its not worth it, the tacos were pleasant, the chicken sandwich was regular, run of the mill chicken. Pricey but okay.

Divine. Don t miss their chicken sandwiches, summer salad and *especially* the Brussels sprouts!

Exceptional food. I love the fusion of different flavours. Had a shareable sriracha shrimp and a fish and chips. The various spices and sauces brought tastes of Thai, Korean and Indian into the mix.

A great view, great decor, a lot of attention to their clientèle! Extra clean. Menu is gourmet detailed such as truffle and brie, mushrooms and herbal ingredients. The wine list is the best and not available everywhere. Truly it is a great place to celebrate even alone! The food in their company is awesome!

Cute place and patio, nice design inside the restaurant with interesting art pieces. Very good food, we had shrimp tacos and guacamole; yummy truffle fries just wish they put aioli truffle on the side instead of putting it on the fries. Great service too.

The food was better than I thought at a very great price point

This is definitely a great restaurant! Weve been here several times since the lock-downs ended and the restaurant was renovated. Weve also had take-out several times. The food is fresher and more delicious than ever! A nice musical playlist adds a nice but of ambience. The service is great and the prices are reasonable.

Such great staff -- we arrived before they were open, but they could see we were cold, brought us inside & poured hot coffee into us. Excellent lamburger, excellent rigatoni & meat balls, excellent Caesar salad. A cheese cake that puts the butter in butterscotch. Were not from Cobourg, but the next time were there well certainly eat at the EL. Thank you!
