Thank-you for giving me the opportunity for feedback. This was my first visit but a repeated visit for my guests. I reserved a table for four a week in advance. I tried to call during opening hours but there was no answer so booked the table online. Easy and convenient. I received an email confirming my reservation with an accurate date and time. Two hours before the reservation, I received a text message confirming the reservation. Upon arriving the 'Greeter' had no reservation in my name. I showed her the text and she said she'd have to discuss with the manager. Thankfully, it was a Sunday evening and a table was available. The staff was friendly and attentive. The appetizer was amazing as were the salads. The Sunday night roast beef special although pleasing to the eye upon presentation was underwhelming in terms of the cut. I will try another item at the Fence and Post again when time permits.
An amazing experience, perfect dinner service from arrival to departure. Service staff (Zaneta) was wonderful, snacks & appetizers (garlic balloon) were fantastic, main dishes (especially bison) were top notch as were the cocktails and dessert. Everything was amazing and this place should be on the do not miss list.
Love the atmosphere here at fence and post. The menu has a nice variety of everything you might want... beef, chicken, lamb, bison, seafood. Really love this place for a nice quiet date night.. very relaxed, genuine small town feel with high-end dishes. When you read the menu, it's very hard to decide what to order because the descriptions were like food poetry.... I was drooling over each dish 1 by 1. Thank you fence and post for making our date night exactly what we needed/wanted. See you soon...
Stopped in for an unplanned brunch and were pleasantly surprised. Good breakfast/lunch options and had a unique appetizer (Brie spring rolls!) Atmosphere was nice, bathrooms and restaurant were clean (loved the bathroom soap), service was good. Would recommend.
We had the 7 course chefs table It was fantastic, we always have chefs meals when we go to the Fairmount hotels but this surpassed those and even the price was great. Took us two and a half hours to finish
My visit to Fence & Post on Good Friday for lunch was an absolute delight. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality, setting the tone for a memorable dining experience. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were not only friendly but also knowledgeable about the menu offerings. Their recommendations truly enhanced our dining experience. Speaking of the menu, the twists in taste were a pleasant surprise. Each dish we ordered was crafted with creativity and attention to detail, elevating familiar flavors to new heights. It was refreshing to see such innovation in every bite. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, providing the perfect backdrop for a leisurely lunch with friends and family. Overall, Fence & Post exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a culinary adventure in Cochrane. I can't wait to return and explore more of their tantalizing menu offerings.
Nice spot for brunch! We celebrated a birthday and everything was great. It was a first time trying the Fence and Post for all of us. I would like to go back and try some other items off the menu. We had coffees all around to start. Our waitress was sweet and very attentive, everything was brought to us in a timely fashion and we enjoyed our time. For our meals we had Breakfast bowl with mushroom and brisket, Breakfast bowl with double cured ham, Prairie breakfast , Eggs Benny - braised beef and crispy onions, Eggs Benny with cured ham and the Feature omelette that had braised pork, carrots, fennel and Swiss cheese. For a desert we got the pavlova which was so good! Everything is made in-house and it really shows. Prices are pretty comparable with other places and flavour is better than most. Thank you so much to the Fence and Post team, you made our first time the best we could have asked for and can’t wait to come back.
On Saturday we celebrated our sons wedding at the Fence and Post. We took over the entire restaurant. The food was absolutely wonderful. Guests raved about the appetizers before we even got to the entrees of braised beef, salmon or chicken. How do they make the Brussels sprouts a treat??? White chocolate brownies finished it all off. The midnight pizza was some of the best I’ve tasted. Wonderful staff, great ambience and terrific food. It was an evening to remember. #megsandham. Thank you Taylor, Chris and servers.
Lovely place with excellent food !
The food was creative and so very delicious. The servers and staff were welcoming and took great care of us.
Great little rustic spot in beautiful downtown Cochrane. Food was great-have the grilled cheese/pear sandwich!
This place is such a nice blend of trendy and classic. The dish I had was incredible (the Arancini), service was friendly and prompt too. Ill definitely be back!
My favorite restaurant in Cochrane. Always recommend it to our out of town guests.
A lovely, unique, high quality, delicious restaurant. My daughter and I came in for the trick or treat event in the downtown and appreciate the participation. The staff were so excited to see her and all this helped make her first trick or treating experience extra special. I know it may seem like kids and parents just pass through the stores for this event but its a very nice gesture that doesnt go un noticed for future. We will be back! Thank you very much.
Lovely restaurant with a great vibe, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and great food selection that is unique compared to the normal fare.
They were very short staffed which had an impact as the restaurant was extremely busy. But the food and service was as usual excellent.
I have lunch with friends or family at Fence & Post fairly frequently. The food is invariably freshly prepared and of high quality: I find the fish and chips to be among the very best . Service is first rate - very attentive to allergies etc. The atmosphere is pleasant but I find the background music is often irritatingly loud and makes conversation a bit difficult for seniors like me with hearing aids. Dietary restrictions: One of my frequent guests has gluten issues and is very happy with the range of gluten-free options. I have some food allergies and the servers are always most careful to check with the kitchen. Parking: Parking in downtown Cochrane can be very difficult - it is almost entirely free street parking. It will usually be possible to find a spot within a couple of blocks, but this can be problematic for those of us with limited mobility. Kid-friendliness: This is not really a family restaurant, and it does not cater to younger kids - although I sometimes take my two teenage granddaughters and everything is just fine Wheelchair accessibility: It is possible to get a wheel chair in to the restaurant, but there is not much space for one once in. I do use an electric wheelchair on occasion but I have never actually tried to bring it in too the restaurant.
Early Tuesday evening was not busy. The kitchen agreed to open their evening (5:00pm) menu a bit early for us. We enjoyed a lamb dish, and pad thai. Both were full of flavour to the last bite. Staff was personable and attentive. Parking: Parking on main street.
If you ever get the chance to experience a meal at the Fence and Post, dont hesitate to take it. Even better, if you can join the monthly 5 course dinner... Wow. Amazing. A perfectly choreographed performance! Thank you for an unforgettable evening!
Delicious!!!
What an amazing experience! The food, drinks, service and atmosphere! 10/10 would recommend! Thank you Ashlyn for the great service!
Great food & very good service. Cocktails are delicious too. Next time Ill try the Bison..
Wow, that was amazing! Like seriously the best meal out we ve had in years. Sandwiches were awesome, and the wedge and house salads were perfect!
From start to finish, food, service, atmosphere, a 10/10. Would highly recommend the Fence & Post. A very pleasant surprise and a definite Cochrane gem.
Great food and great service! Highly recommended!
The service and food is excellent! We just came here for our anniversary dinner and we really enjoyed it! Staff are friendly and professional!
A nice little cafe with a good selection of food
Exceptional food, service and atmosphere!
We just had a great quality dinner. Very tasty! Im very disappointed that even though we had a reservation made out to sit in a booth and got to the restaurant on time, we got there to find out that our table was given away to a customer that was there alone. This is unfortunate considering that we dont normally go out for dinner date (because of our 2 year old). I just wish that they had respected our reservation.
Some of the nicest service, very pleasant atmosphere, excellent food would recomend the fried risotto appetizer!
A gem in the heart of Cochrane! The place itself is lovely to dine in. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. The food was simply perfect - and we are big foodies. Overall a lovely visit and wed highly recommend to anyone who likes tasty food and great cocktails!
Thank you so much to nice atmosphere and delicious food
Today my sister and I stopped by the Fence & Post for coffee and desert. The service was incredible. Our wonderful server explained all about the various decaf coffees for us, (as Im lactose intolerant.) My sister had the decaf Cappichino and I settled on the decaf Americano. Our server was so patient and went to ask the chef multiple questions about the deserts. The chef came to the table and explained exactly what was in the rice pudding to make sure I wouldnt get sick. When it arrived at our table my sister had a creamcheese cake and I had the rice pudding. Both the coffees and the deserts tasted incredible. I was so grateful for the service we received. We will definitely go back.
The best brussels sprouts! Interesting dishes, fair prices, off-beat ambient music, great service.
My wife has a confusing list of food allergies that usually has us just stay home but we found ourselves in Cochrane and called Fence & Post to see if they could accommodate. After a quick chat on the phone, we were assured they could do something. Our server and the chef came up with something that my wife very much enjoyed and didnt cause her any problems! My dinner, the braised beef, was amazing. Before we left I was already looking forward to coming back just to have another helping but there are other things on the menu that intrigue me as well. To know that my wife has options here too make it a sure thing that well be back! Edit: Finally a chance to come back to Fence and Post. We made a reservation and before arriving, they called my wife because they had all of her allergies on file from a year ago and they had discussed internally what meals they could prepare for her. We went and had a wonderful meal. Serving staff were amazing and the food was still top notch! Wish there were more than 5 stars available.
Great food and service
Great service, enjoyed our dinner experience. Eggplant Korma was really good (although not what I was expecting), as was the noodle salad. Garlic Balloon was so tasty but not enough bread and we were charged for more bread. The Alfredo is $24 and it s just noodles covered in cheese (must be expensive cheese!) Portion was small, no sauce, even garlic bread would ve been nice. Definitely over priced. Overall, good restaurant and would still recommend.
Excellent all around, great tasting food, lots of choices (including for those with dietary restrictions), and great service from Grace on the patio! Dietary restrictions: Great options for GF including many desserts. A real treat!
Omg delicious. Had the steak. The fired onion was great.
Food was great, and the waiters were really friendly!
This was truly an amazing experience to have. The food, staff and atmosphere were all perfect!! Would highly recommend. My only complaint is that I m not a local and won t get to experience this perfect food often.
Fence and post is an elevated family run restaurant. Cute country decor and food created with meticulous attention to detail and most importantly a large focus on local ingredients. Their curated wine nights are a great way to try new dishes as well.
Booked an 8pm reservation and was told the kitchen is closed...
This was our first time at this restaurant and it was fabulous all around. My second mom is in a wheelchair and they were very accommodating for seating even giving us a fabulous table beside a window. We will be back for sure. We highly recommend Fence & Post. You should give it a try, you wont be disappointed.
Food and service were both great. The dining room could have been cleaner. We sat by the window and the amount of crumbs and chunks of food sitting on the ledge was gross, but the flies sure liked it. Otherwise a great experience.
Average tasting food. Quite overpriced in my opinion. I ordered a pasta, the serving was small, finished it in 5 bites. The table smelled like sweaty socks. Not sure if you guys clean those towels when you wipe the tables but it smelled funky.
Worst sandwich I ever had! The Croque Monsieur was all bread soggy bread at that. A few chunks of fatty flavorless ham and no Swiss cheese that I could find, filled two thick slices of toasted potato bread. Impossible to pick up to eat because the sauce coating the sandwich made the bottom soggy. Unfortunately it was also difficult to eat with a fork and knife because of the rubbery pieces of ham. The whole thing was absolutely tasteless as well, although adding the side salad to the sandwich helped somewhat. What a waste of $22! My husbands Smash burger was ordinary but fine. The venue was very nice and service was pleasant and professional.
Tiny portions. Beet salad was tasty but only had 5 small pieces of beet and a few kale leaves. Supposed to have hazelnuts but we couldn t find any. We waited close to an hour for main dishes. Were offered free olives for the inconvenience. Braised beef was dry and pad Thai was the equivalent of 1 cup of food including chicken (processed) and minuscule prawns. Very disappointing overall food wise.
Wonderful meal. Lamb shoulder with refreshing watermelon salad. Steak with wedge salad was nice and tender. Wine and Service were spot on.
This is my second visite to Fence & Post in Cochrane. I first visited the establishment in January of this year and ordered The Elk Osso-buco. I was blown away by the flavours and their wine menu seems to be well thought out to pair with the menu I came here today in the hope of revisiting that dish but it s not in season who thinks of creating a seasonal menu ? well this chef does and I applaud him for it . I decided obviously to try something else and decided to pick the wine to start and select from the menu after so having picked a French white from the loire region I was drawn to the Sole what a pairing . Pan Seared sole served with Steamed baby potatoes. I would have thought Risolées myself but it would not have been the same miniature croutons , walnuts , star anise , parsley and the most delightful reduction finish off with baby Green beans I was blown away with the first bite the crispiness of the croutons replaces the need to roasted potatoes steaming was the right decision The flavours just explode in your mouth . Top that up with a super desert selection , and outstanding 5 star service. You must come and experience this for yourself I know I ll be back to try a myriade of other selections in the menu
Imagine finding your new favourite restaurant and then remembering that it is 7000 km from home! The food here is out of this world, the service was exceptional. Overall the perfect last night of a great holiday. We all ate different things, and everything was amazing.
Pretty middle of the road for what you pay. Boring. Aioli or something would go a long way
We attended a wine tasting dinner, and the commentaries along with food and service are fantastic. Cant wait to go again.
Wonderful small town restaurant. Great food and excellent attention to detail with plating. This is a local gem surrounded by a sea of below average chain eateries. Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free options
Had a great brunch here. We went early to avoid the crowds. Coffee was Americano with refills. Its a lovely place in Cochrane
Absolutely love this gem of a place ... the food and service was always amazing every time I stopped Im on my trip!
Finally went to fence and post. Fantastic arancini, I recommend that over everything else. The mushroom sauce with it was wonderful. The prawns were a bit spicy but with the watermelon and cucumber micro green salad beneath, it was an alright pairing. The bison ragu canneloni was nice, the pasta itself was thin and well made, the stuffing lacked flavour. The roman alfredo was a little bit boring. And unfortunately it came cold.... So we discussed with our server. The server was understanding and accommodating. The drinks were not bad. The negroni was beautiful, the wine was unique and incredible, and the rose was average. The atmosphere was alright. I would prefer real plants; there are a lot of fake plants... And the room itself was not bad. I like that we could see the kitchen and the process of that. I would recommend this place. (one side note, unrelated to the food but worth mentioning: there was a toilet brush in the bathroom beside the toilet... I dont think Ive ever seen that at a restaurant..... I would highly recommend hiding that away in a cupboard or something. That was off putting...)
Service was great. Food was bloody excellent. But most important, my wife was so very happy dining there on her birthday. Thanks to all the staff!
Wonderful service. Everyone was so kind and the food was fantastic! The braised beef was delicious, steak was made perfect to order and the pasta was also amazing. Thank you to Chris, Poppy and the chefs behind the scenes!
Great place for breakfast, nice atmosphere and great service Grace!
This is always one of our favourite restaurants to visit in town. Whenever our family comes into town this is the first restaurant on the list. This evening we had an excellent server by the name of Chris, he was so wonderful and made us laugh all throughout our meal. Thanks to all the staff for the wonderful atmosphere and delicious food and drink!
Unique and very tasty menu. Loved the location in 1st Street West in Cochrane which has a lovely nostalgic feel. Overall a great experience.
Went with the family today to celebrate a birthday and terrible experience from start to finish. Fish and chips were a joke - tiny piece of fish covered in batter and clearly deep fried in old oil, chicken nuggets for kids were burned to a crisp and hardly any chicken old coleslaw and a waitress that literally dropped some waters down and nowhere to be seen for the remainder of the meal. We went here as we had a gift card to use but would never return. Loads of better options in town - stay well clear.
This real is a true gem and a big favorite of ours! The food is upscale with a nice atmosphere that welcomes you in. Drinks are top not. Hand crafted to perfection! Let get to the switch spot ~ dessert the Carrot Cake is like you died and went to heaven. I really love this spot. The food is amazing, service is excellent, drinks and dessert are 5 out of 5! Perfection for date night and family as well!
Always enjoy the quality of this place and the Fantastic service thankfully they have some booths those are the most cozy
I had a great experience from there with my husband for celebration my birthday. It was amazing! Love it. Thank you so much!
The food here is amazing, daily menus are creative, and the service is adequate. Accessible dining area...not sure about the rest as to being accessible.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The elk was one of the best dishes Ive ever enjoyed and the service was fantastic.
Had a little birthday for my wife there and the food was excellent as always as we have been there before. It is one of the jewels of Cochrane. Great restaurant and great people. The food is excellent and my wife having a lot of allergies they are very weary of allergies and will ask you if you have any. It s great!!! Highly recommend this place. One of our favourites.
This is my favourite place for apps in Cochrane. The food is delicious and the servers are sweet. The garlic balloon is a must have. Their brunch is amazing. Parking: Parking downtown Cochrane is FREE! Lots of cool independent stores near
Brendas surprise birthday lunch with her sisters and mother was a success! Thanks to everyone involved; The Fence & Post in Cochrane;great food ,staff especially Chris and Luigi, Patricia Richardson for another absolutely stunning cake creation and of course her mom and sisters who played along and turned their monthly get together into a memorable celebration of her birthday. Im grateful to you all for making the day special. If I missed anyone I apologize, but I think the girls enjoyed themselves.
Very nice dining place, good food and friendly service
Very disappointing! We had beef bennies for $22 (!), 2 tiny pieces of bread (not biscuits), a little bit of meat, eggs and some sprinkles of sauce with a handful of cubed hashbrowns (they seemed store bought/frozen). Also a tiny cup of coffee (americano) for $4. Never got asked for more coffee (obviously no free refills) or how the food was. My food was just warm, my wifes was almost cold! We waited quite some time for just getting the coffee in an empty restaurant on a Sunday morning. Not worth the money - not recommended!
Delicious BLT. I was still full 5 hours later.
Warm, homey spot with flesh local products and an inviting atmosphere. The country chic decor and openness inside is welcoming and sets the tone for the dining experience. The food may seem like basics, but they are done well and always have a nice twist. The service is always genuine and the staff are attentive to your needs. Would recommend for a relaxing meal!
Food well prepared. Best burger Ive had in a long time.
Cochranes best dining experience. Never a bad meal, nor service.
Stopped in on our way home & LOVED everything! Nearly everyone in our party got the grilled cheese & it was delicious. The staff were all so nice & friendly :) Will def be back next time we re through!!
The worst meal my husband and I have had in a long time. Salmon so undercooked that it was basically raw, undercooked egg to the point that the white was still clear. Rude waitress basically ignored us and the discount on the bill was a joke. Will absolutely never eat here again!
Went to Fence & Post for brunch today and had a great meal! The restaurant is so cute, our service was great and the food was delicious! I had the waffle and it was phenomenal, and the hashbrowns were well seasoned and crispy (I hate a not-crispy hashbrown). Ill definitely make the drive out again!
Love this restaurant! So quaint and good is amazing! Great for couples!
Super tasty food, loved the mussels! And the warm gluten free bread for dipping!! Great wine list. Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free options.
Probably the best restaurant in Cochrane. Its a little on the rustic side - the decore isnt great - but the food is very good. Also the atmosphere, once seated, ii isnt too bad - its quiet and comfortable. Good service, decent diverse menu. https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowUserReviews-g183732-d12531917-r934540777-Fence_Post-Cochrane_Alberta.html#
The food was good but the service was terrible. There was a waitress at the next table cleaning up and my companions tried again and again to get her attention - she ignored us. We thought maybe she was hearing impaired or couldnt speak English (I am not being insulting). Finally the other waitress came over and took our order - some things she got right, some she didnt (example she said she would bring extra hot water for a tea pot but she didnt). The restaurant was almost empty. Not sure Id go back - there are other restaurants in Cochrane. Parking: Nothing else to say.
Stopped by on recommendation of a man we met at the airport who used to live in the area. Got the loaded potato soup and a burger with the caesar salad. Great food, charming town.
I really wanted to like it here, after having a delicious brunch a few years ago. The staff was super friendly, it was clean, and had a nice ambiance. However, the meal was underwhelming. I got the steak, which was cooked well, but quite flavourless. The side potatoes and squash were very dry and also flavourless. However, I feel like maybe this was off and not representative of the norm, as my friend s meal was very good that I went with and I ve also had a very good brunch there. I ll try again (and maybe not so close to the end of the night)!
Food tasted good, just not sure where all of it was. I ordered the fish and chips, very small piece of fish and not many fries. Expected more for a $20 dish. Slow service, mostly due to being understaffed.
We stopped for a late lunch on our way from Calgary to Banff. Our server was really friendly. The space was very open and bright with natural light. We opted for a few appetizers as we didn t want anything too heavy. The food was beautifully plated and came out fresh. The tea I had was good and my husband had a local beer. Overall the meal was really tasty and I m glad we stopped.
Came to celebrate a special day occasion. At 3:04 we could only order appetizers with a kitchen full of staff. I had high expectations, too bad
Absolutely lovely evening at the Fence & Post in Cochrane AB. The Garlic Balloon and Brussel Sprouts appetizers were outstanding and the Lamb shank and Elk short ribs were unbelievable. With Julia serving us it made the evening very memorable. We will defiantly return!
Delicious!
We were in the area and dropped by here for dinner today. The food was absolutely amazing - we had the fish and chips and the affogato (to die for). Tamsin was taking care of us and she was incredible. We will definitely be telling our friends about this place!
Hands down the best food we have eaten in Cochrane!! The chicken sandwiches are to die for!! Fresh ingredients, crispy chicken and fresh bun!! Wow! The salads (beet and wedge) are phenomenal!!! The owner is super friendly and accommodating. We are fans!! Don t think about it, just go and enjoy!!
Best lunch Wheelchair accessibility: Park right in front of the restaurant Food : 5/5 |
If you have not eaten at the Fence and Post you are definitely missing out. The food is amazing and so full of flavour. The staff are very friendly and personable and the ambiance is pleasing. Definitely recommend this restaurant in Cochrane.
Thank you for being the only place open that was not fast food that allowed minors that we could find at 9:30. The 7cheese pizza was delicious. And if you like curry that bowl would of been good. ( Lol my child ordered it and learned she did not like curry )
We ordered 5 different appetizers and one main to share between 4. Each one was fantastic. Highly recommend.
Ordered the steak it was pre cut into 3 fajita bits, maybe 3oz for $42 dollars. Very disappointed that they thought they could pass that off as a steak. The other meals at the table were well received.
Great food, great service! I ll definitely be coming back.
We celebrated our daughter s 19th birthday at the Fence & Post last night. The cocktails were unique and tasty. The garlic balloon & bruschetta (enough for 5) were fantastic appetizers. Our mains were the lamb which was tender & flavorful, the seafood pasta was scrumptious & my daughter enjoyed her snapper. Of course we finished with dessert. The Earl grey cake & toffee pudding tied for first place. The brownie sundae (which was flourless didn t notice that tiny celiac symbol) was the only item I would not reorder (the chocolate was too bitter & dense, lacking sweetness). I wanted to mention our server who was awesome at giving advice on selections (clearly I didn t ask her about the brownie) & quick to notice when we needed something.Overall a 5 star experience!!!! We will be back. Reservations recommended for weekend nights. Dietary restrictions: They offer celiac options
Went in to try out the Prairie Kitchen for a birthday celebration. This restaurant has a lovely ambiance. Big windows, tables separated by LOTS of space, open kitchen to see the chefs at work. Service was quick and professional. Food was presented with artistry. We ordered a childrens meal and 2 adult mains. Unfortunately EVERYTHING was overcooked. The tiny scallops in the fruits du mere were like eraser ends on a pencil. Shrimp could have bounced all the way back to the ocean with a good pitching arm. The chefs special of salmon was crunchy ( hard to cut with a knife) on the edges. The risotto was not creamy and tender, but mushy and grainy ( mashed green peas with rice?). The childs burger was presented in a soft potato bun, but the burger itself was a tiny hockey puck. After reading other reviews, we expected exquisite food. Perhaps a bad day on the part of the kitchen? We left, very disappointed in our dining experience.
Very nice cozy spot. Friendly service food was excellent. no complaints!
Awesome brunch. Had a delicious breakfast bowl.
Took the teens for a quick birthday lunch. BLT, grilled Brie, and chicken sandwiches. Best sandwiches weve ever had. Great flavour, service, and decor. Cant wait to go back.
Best old fashioned Ive had in a long time. Possibly tied for the best Ive ever had.
Fence & Post proves that fine dining is not the exclusive purview of large urban centers. Its also not full of pomp and self importance. Very comfortable and casual.
I dont have enough words for Chris and his team for their help tonight! Thank you for sorting out some techy details I couldnt from afar to make dinner work for my Mom and Dad this evening Your team is the best! Your restaurant is such an amazing option for finer dining out in Cochrane Looking forward to coming this Christmas! Cheers
My friend and I went out as I just got in Town
Great gluten free options.
We were in town and researched places to eat and decided to try this gem. So happy that we did! Food was amazing and quality was exceptional. The cocktails were great too! Highly recommend!
Cute place in Cochran. Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
We had a reservation and they didn t tell us we were being seated in elevated chairs made it very difficult for my other
hello all, and welcome to tupajs summer reviews. were kicking off this summers reviews with fencing post cochrane. i ordered a virgin pink elephant and so did my ward. i think that for 5 dollars, this is a perfect summer drink. great amount for the price as well, if i had the same amount in wine i would be white girl wasted at 6pm. 5/5. i also ordered chicken 45 and what can i say. i am by no means rich, so the price was jarring, but you get what you pay for and you pay a lot and you dont get a lot. so yummy. my friend ordered garlic balloons and ate them like a voracious beast. 4/5. also, i was quite satisfied with the tap water, i mean it when i say it might be the best in town. 4/5. if you read my other reviews, you know that I am a critic of the commodification of certain services and aesthetics in cochrane. however, I feel bad for the upper class in cochrane because theres nothing fun for them to do apart from golf. 3/5. if you have the money, then yes! i would recommend eating at fencing post. Parking: no parking Wheelchair accessibility: theres a big bump
We had fence and post cater our wedding. The food was amazing and everyone had nothing but good things to say. The wedge salad was a huge hit! We did have one minor problem with the catering showing up a bit late which did delay our reception and the time our guests were able to eat. But overall I would highly recommend!
Went for the advertised After Dark cocktails and appetizers (only the bar side was open). We were seated quickly, and our drink orders were taken. The cocktail I ordered (gin with grapefruit juice, other ingredients I cant recall) was sublime. The appetizers were really good - we ordered the Arancini, the Brie Spring Rolls, and the Greek Flatbreads. Delicious. The cap to a nice evening out was the sampler of some of their desserts with Happy Birthday elegantly written in chocolate across the plate. The Macaroon? Pure bliss. Thank you for a lovely evening out!
Food was absolutely amazing. Service seemed slow and scattered. Beer was warm. Food
Excellent food! Flavour combinations are thoughtful and well prepared. Our server Poppy was polite, diligent and very friendly. Thank you!
Always great food, made even better with a special evening of beer pairings!
Apple & Brie Grilled cheese was Delicious. Burger & Fish & chips was great for lunch. Will be back to try the Dinner menu. Really good Coffee, and a Dog Friendly Patio.
Outstanding food and feature cocktails. Will be going back for sure.
A bit pricey but you really get what you pay for, food is always amazing!! Love the atmosphere inside, we always come here for special occasions.
Had our last meal here with family while visiting Crochane. All 8 people really enjoyed their meals. Great position, walking distance from our b & b. Food : 5/5
Today we went to eat well we didnt eat lol Because Upon entering the lady told us that the children could not enter with their caramel lollipop she told us that we could only eat outside ..(with the hot weather no thanks) I bought them a candy so they could sit while the food arrived the restaurant was completely empty If you are going with children, better do not go, they do not like children, lousy service We drive an hour and they were very rude with us 7 people and just because our kids have a little sweet treat they didnt let us eat inside
We (party of 4 joined later by an additional couple) were seated on the patio that was nicely shaded by an umbrella. We ordered 2 x grilled cheese, a cheeseburger and a prairie breakfast. Everything came pretty much together and was thoroughly enjoyed by each diner. Elevated grilled cheese (brie!), stellar cheeseburger and great breakfast (for brunch) and the house-made ketchup was a nice addition.. Our server was terrific and even brought our two additional people ice water, which was well received given the heat of the day.
We were looking for a nice place to have dinner and this was the perfect choice. The patio was small but there was room for us so we sat outside since it was a beautiful day. The cocktails were simple but tasty and the food was absolutely delicious! I recommend the agnolotti appetizer, the flavours were amazing. We also ordered the wedge salad, the braised beef and the berkshire pork. Everything tasted great. The price point is a bit high but overall I think it was decent for the food and service we received.
Love the Fence & Post. Excellent food. Can definitely see this becoming a favorite for us. The garlic balloon and arancini are some of our favourite appetizers. The pavlova is a safe bet for dessert if you have a sweet tooth.
Oh dear, our favourite restaurant had an off night. Service was exceptionally slow and we waited a long time for everything. Our dinner also was sub par. My fish was cooked well, but not my wifes. One piece was very tough and the coleslaw was very bitter, and not dressed at all. It was not the dinner out that we were anticipating. Plus, why the loud background music? We do not need to hear a beat while eating. We can go to a bar for that. Dietary restrictions: A gluten free fish and chips is very rare to find.
Everything more than perfect
as featured in the local review in The Cochrane Post: I was impressed with this restaurant because the food is just so good! Relaxing. Friendly. Quality. Atmosphere is casual and welcoming, clean and comfortable with open kitchen at the back and a hightop bar featuring unique, local wine producers. Famous cordon bleu chef Chris Hartman has developed a delightfully small menu but everyone will find something they like. Maybe you recognize his name from the Bears Den or Farm. Excellent job bringing together the best that Alberta has to offer from local products and producers. Lots of choices for meat lovers, dessert fans and some very tasty vegetarian dishes that even meat eaters order and enjoy. It s nice to have a world class restaurant in our Historic Downtown. Well done! My favourites so far: the brussel sprouts, the wedge salad, brie spring rolls and the creme brulée. Fresh, flavourful and savory and with interesting combinations of ingredients. I might suggest that you not order creme brulée for takeout, it somehow curdles and is better to have dining in.
Love this place. Good is always unique and delicious.
We came for our anniversary dinner and the server and supervisor went above and beyond to make up for our steak being overdone. We felt absolutely cared for and will definitely return. Lovely restaurant, delicious food, and unique drink options. Always a go-to for special occasions for us. Vegetarian options: The Risotto main and Zucchini appetizer were fantastic.
Great local spot that feels a little on the higher end side. Ive been here twice and both times the meals were memorable and very tasty, I had the wild boar the first time and most recently the braised beef which was excellent, not to mention the thinly sliced sweet potatoes with chilli paste was unique and delicious! I would bring family and friends here or just go for a date. Happy to have places like this in town!
I was there as a visitor from out of province with my local family. Right away, this restaurant was not kid friendly. A 3 year old was watching something on a cell phone and we were asked to have the sound turned down. With the loud house music, it seemed a strange request. The kids meals had BBQ sauce instead of ketchup. The fries were way too salty. There are no highchairs for little ones, a clue. The adult food was only fair tasting, not hot and from a limited menu. The mens washroom was filthy. There appeared to be grease on the floor outside the cooking area. AHS should do an inspection Staff was pleasant however, I would not ever go there again. A pretentious place with poor results for a hungry family.
Very pleasant restaurant in this desolate place. Good food and drink at acceptable prices.
What an amazing place for meat lovers. The experience start right before you get in why the bbq slowly rotating ribs and pineapple. The service was really friendly and professional. Both our kids 9 & 11 enjoyed every meat and i had to be responsible and stop before i had to unbutton my pants. It was the best steakhouse i had in Alberta so far beside the far pricier option in downtown Calgary. Will come back again and bring all my family visiting in the future.
On Friday October 13th, my girlfriend and I made a reservation for dinner at the Fence and Post for 515pm. When we came in we were greeted and directed to a table in an otherwise empty restaurant (I think there were 4 other people not including staff there at the time) right in front of the kitchen. This was obviously disappointing and we did change tables but it seemed like the disappointment was only beginning. In excited preparation for dinner here we had researched the menu, I ordered the Osso Buco and my girlfriend ordered the Rustic Pasta w/shrimp. The Osso Buco was tough, cold and without any flavour. It was clearly pre-cooked and reheated and not enjoyable whatsoever. The rustic pasta had no taste, small portion size and required a significant amount of salt (we even added the Ratatouille to it to give it some amount of flavour. The garlic was nowhere to be found or tasted. We only had one glass of wine with the meal and with our mandatory gratuity (the service was acceptable) came to nearly $200. I cannot believe that such prices would be charged for heated up leftovers prepared by (visibly) inexperienced kitchen staff. These prices are more reflective of a restaurant that cares about their customers food and would not serve them that garbage for $200.
Great food Wonderful service Do yourself a favor and try the Brie Spring Roll appetizer. 100% will be returning. 100% worth the drive. Next time Im not sharing the spring rolls Zaneta was great!
The food here is absolutely amazing. I would recommend to any family and friends. Soooo good!!
We came specifically to try your food, and we are so great we did. We came just because of Chef Ezmo. We delighted to try it. We will come back for sure. The host that actually our server was great and our orders came out accordingly. The Salmon was amazing and my friends Steak was amazing. Overall was fantastic and for sure to recommend to our friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Went to celebrate our 26th wedding Anniversary., The Appetizers we had, were absolutely amazing, decided to have Green Thai Curry, substituted the Salmon for Shrimp, 6 nice sized Shrimp on the plate. Poppy our server, was so amazing, so attentive, explained the food options, then she came a plate of assorted desserts for our anniversary, very nice surprise indeed. We also chose our desserts, they were out of this world. Can t go wrong with the Chocolate Royale dessert. Coffee was nice. Thank you to all the staff. You made us feel very welcomed, & a memorable night to remember. We ll be back in the new year. Thank Phil & Amanda. Parking: Parking right outside. Plenty of spaces to choose from
The accompaniment to the braised chicken was well thought out. What an incredible dish that was. Thanks again for making our anniversary special!
We had dinner for my birthday. The service was excellent, our meals of duck leg with mashed potatoes and root vegetables, roast elk with potatoes and ratatouille were divine. And we were comped a selection of desserts with a happy birthday wish written in chocolate! Wonderful experience all around. We will return!
Once again a fantastic meal at Fence and Post! From the Brussels sprouts appi to the Duck and elk entrees, everything was cooked to perfection. Topped of with a banana sundae! Perfect in every way! Fantastic service! You can t get a bad meal here!!
Amazing food and excellent service! The garlic balloon is DELICIOUS and so unique. A must have
Loved everything about this place! We went on New Year s Eve for dinner and again for brunch the next day. Super nice restaurant! Both meals were absolutely amazing. Service was great and super fast.
This is one overpriced but super average (at best) restaurant. Paid $35 for mashed potatoes with small piece of braised beef sprinkled with cheapest crispy onions from costco. Could not get gin and tonic, instead was served yellow bidder water with no taste of gin in it. Sent it back, but was charged $8 anyway. $30 charcuterie board is a joke. Total waste of my time and money! I should have read the reviews first - looks like lunch menu is better, but I am not going back due to bad experience.
A culinary gem right in town, a great unexpected surprise. Food was well cooked, beautifully presented and the dishes translated perfectly from the menu to the plate! Our server was very friendly and extremely good at her job! Overall a wonderful night out!
The culinary experience is always great. I find that sometimes the servers are not very knowledgeable of the food/wine on the menu.
Had a business lunch meeting here the other day. The atmosphere is lovely. I love the upscale service and food in a casual setting. The Brussel sprout appetizer is the best I ve ever had and the burger is absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Great brunch place, fantastic service and reasonable price.
perfectly cooked meat, amazing cocktails and over the top desserts. truly an excellent meal served in the setting of a rustic yet high end farmhouse!
The atmosphere is great and the staff are amazing. The food is also absolutely remarkable. I dont think there is a bad dish you can have in that place. And again, the staff are absolutely remarkable. I dont even live in Canmore and they made me feel like we were home. Thats good marketing for the business, and for the community.
This is my absolute favorite place to eat a nice dinner without the kids. Hubby and I can leisurely savor a drink and really enjoy our food - which is so tasty. Since I want to eat all the things, we shared a scallop appetizer, elk Osso Buco main, and pineapple passion pavlova for dessert. I also enjoyed the Passion (cant remember full name) drink - tangy and flavorful! The service is thoughtful and timely. The restaurant is not noisy, which I appreciate. Theres a large space at the back for a big group. And the bathrooms are impeccably clean.
Went for dinner December 29 ,2021,fabulous appetizer, garlic balloon which has already received an award, between 5-6 p.m. is happy hour, cocktails are 2.00 dollars off, fancy exotic rum drink,so good I had two, main course was a huge thick steak, with delicious grilled potatoes, and vegetables oh I forgot the steak had a nice grilled char as well, couldn t believe the size of the steak.the waitress gave the best service, very attentive and wanted to make sure me and my friend were well looked after.the view was perfect at that time of year. Great location as well. Would recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to step outside their comfort zone and try something different plus different foods from around the world. I m really looking forward to trying their homemade cherry and raspberry bon bons, I believe they re dark chocolate. Also I intend to go back for lunch or dinner
My wife Suzanne and I were out celebrating with some old friends for dinner. As fairly new to Cochrane ourselves we wanted to give Fence and Post a try as we heard the food was amazing. Well let me tell you we couldnt have been more impressed. The service and the food were truly amazing, what a beautiful night out with friends and a top notch dinner-well done everyone. Very highly recommend.
Great service (big shout out to Taylor who served us and put up with our... Flavor of humor) great food (big shout out to the kitchen staff for being fast AF) and a good wine selection! My table had the duck, the elk Osso Bucco, and the fish (and for the life of I cant remember what fish... But it was a tasty fish). It was all delicious! And for me... The best part was the fact they were very accommodating regarding my celiac disease. They cant promise you there wont be contamination, but they sure did their best, as I didnt feel ill at all after eating here. Will be back again. Thanks to everyone at The Fence & Post we had a wonderful time.
Really enjoyed the Brunch here and need to go back for dinner (and their Sunday Roast)! Service, atmosphere, and food here are all excellent. We tried the special Bannock Breakfast Burger which was phenomenal, with the perfect bun the filling ration, and just tasted amazing. Also tried the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict which had the most tangy and lemony hollandaise. Finally, we tried their homemade Carrot Cake, which was moist and delicious!
The most incredible burgers. Quality Gluten Free buns available. Great service
Amazing food! The portion sizes are incredible. Great little atmosphere restaurant. My wife and I went for dinner. We will be returning!
Excellent appetizers and service from Tamsin! Can t wait to go back.
This is not a hidden gem, it is the ultimate HIDDEN GEM! We came to Calgary airport and went to Banff NP immediately. On our way I found this place and what a perfect start (first place in Canada we visited). Food is de-li-cious! Go all in. Starters to desert. By the way, do not miss the jerky, spectacular! The architecture? From inside out amazing. The staff is so nice and so are the local people who come here. We immediately made friends of some elderly couple that advised us on how to get to Banff safely at night. Overall, amazing, perfect and magnificent.
Ok wow. Popped in for brunch on the way to Canmore and so glad we did. The room is cozy and the staff are lovely. Ashley our server was fantastic. And omg the food. I had the Benny with mushroom and truffle oil which may have been the best breakfast I ve ever had. She had the rosti with smoked salmon and it too was out of this world. We both requested our poached eggs cooked differently and they were both perfect. 10/10 would recommend F&P. Will def have to return to try the dinner menu and explore the great wine selection. High. Five.
Went here for my birthday dinner and Where to begin!?! The whole experience was amazing. The food is something to remember and the service was fantastic. Hidden gem in town for sure :) they even accommodated dairy allergy. The drinks were mixed perfectly. Brussels sprouts were my fav! Can t wait to come back.
Seriously the best lunch Ive ever had!
Dinner was awesome. Everything tasted great and staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend!
My god this restaurant is amazing. The dishes are absolutely exquisite. Great place for date night!
Very good spot to eat in Cochrane. Limited lunch menu but what is on the menu is good. The highlight is their ice tea. They make it themselves and you can get it sweet or non-sweetened. I had the sweetened and it was worth the drive from Calgary.
The only nice thing about this place is the waitress and the atmosphere. I would not recommend this place for breakfast. Their menu is very limited and not very good and presentation left a lot to be desired.
Great homemade food. Great service staff are friendly and Id highly recommend the place
Fantastic menu with a unique variety of dishes. Service was friendly and attentive. Food came quickly and was perfect. Definately will try this place again.
An incredible menu put together by a top tier chef specially trained in French cuisine. The food combinations are a delight for the palette and sensational overall. The cocktails are carefully curated and each have something special to enjoy. The service staff is attentive, professional and knowledgeable. We had Danielle who is easily overqualified for serving guests but makes the evening that much more special.
Awesome service, very knowledgeable and attentive waitstaff. Food was great, drinks were thoughtful.
The food is really good, service is good, free parking.
Great lunch! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and decorations, very rustic farmhouse.
Excellent high end dinner that does not break the bank. We had a wonderful time here.
One of my new favorite restaurants. Interesting menu and delicious flavors. Extraordinary deserts! Great service by the staff. They always find a lovely table for us.
Amazing food, amazing service, great setting. What more do you want? What more I say!?
Decent place. Great ambience. Clear attention to quality but falls short but good effort. Worth going to for sure though. The arracinni was awesome.
This place was clean and cute! The service was fast, the food was excellent! I didnt expect a unique menu in this town, but there it was!
I came here specifically to try the more exotic meats on menu for dinner. Sadly I was underwhelmed with the flavor of both. We tried the Elk short ribs and Cornish hen plates. On the ribs, the flavor was too acidic and unbalance for me. The Cornish hen came with a pleasant slaw type salad which was pleasant but the portion felt small for the price over all. Pavlova for dessert was quite nice with a mix of surprising flavors inside. We might go back to try lunch or their more traditional plates like steak, fish or burger night. The service was well timed and atmosphere was simple and clean.
Delicious food, miserable staff (one rude old lady) and poor service (from her). Intolerant of toddlers.
Awesome little restaurant in Cochrane. Food is always great, the aranchini being the best!! Service is always outstanding- the new server, Poppy, was welcoming and did an awesome job on her first day!! I will for sure be back!
Had brunch here today. The food was really good albeit small portions. The wait staff were not great. She delivered a dessert menu and never came back. We put our payment card on the table and still nothing. We had to ask another wait staff to bring our bill.
This review is LONG overdue. Firstly, thank you so much Fence and Post! They saved my wedding day. Less than 4 weeks out I reached out to F&P to cater my wedding day. Between Chris and Sheena I was in great hands. The food was incredible!!!! The service was top notch. They accommodated my wedding with options not on their everyday menu and made an absolutely scrumptious meal for my guests. Every single one of my guests adored the shrimp skewers! I am still dreaming of their chocolate mousse cake... and my husband inhaled his steak dinner. The servers at my wedding were the kindest, most lovely people ever!! They catered to every request with a smile on their face they went above and beyond in every aspect. I was so pleased with everything from the first conversation to the wedding day. Thank you Fence & Post, Chris, Sheena and the whole team! See you in July 2023 for my anniversary meal!!
September 23, 2022 OMG!!!! What a way to end a Mother Daughter Getaway. We do not get to Cochrane often so we really had no idea where to eat. We did a Google search and this Gem of a place popped up. Because this was a spur of the moment stop we did not make a reservation so grateful they were able to fit us in. I highly recommend reservations are made as it seems like the local population is well aware of how fantastic the food is. Due to the fact we were traveling we did not want to eat anything to heavy so we went decided to share some appetizers. We ordered the Garlic Balloon, Brie Spring Rolls and the Chicken 65. Delicious, scrumptious and unlike anything we have ever had the Garlic Balloon was the highlight of our choices. The Mozzarella Ball was filled with fluffy mozza garlic goodness. This was placed on a pool of Basil Oil and marinated tomatoes with crusty bread on the side. The Brie Spring Rolls were crisp light and so creamy. The Apple Slaw served along side was light and fresh. It was the right pairing. The Chicken 65 was just the perfect bite to accompany our other choices. It was light, just the right amount of heat from the Sichuan sauce. It is not only the food the makes a dining experience great it is also the staff. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a smile from the Hostess. She sat us right way. Our server, Stavin, was excellent. He answered any questions we had. He was attentive and very personable young gentleman. We also had either the Owner or Restaurant manager stop by our table a couple times to see how we were making out. This was greatly appreciated as it allowed us to share our thoughts and asks questions about our meal. He answered everything. We are already planning our return visit
So great first time will return
Took my beautiful wife there tonight for her xxth Birthday, the food was impeccable, the stave were awesome. Great service, would advise anyone to check this place out.
Outstanding Food. Great Set-up. Love It!
It was my first time at Fence & Post and it did not disappoint.
Smaller menu, but incredibly well cooked. A great treat on a weekend afternoon
great food and great service. was gifted a GC to this restaurant, and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here.
I highly recommend this amazing place in Cochrane. One of the best local owned restaurants with unique menu and perfect service. Deserts are super delicious.
Amazing food, service was amazing...so full! Will definitely be back!
Great food, fast friendly service. Very attentive to customers. Great place for date night. Not for small children though. Adult dinners
We had a wonderful staff dinner at Fence and Post this past weekend! The service was great, the drinks were fantastic and the food was amazing! We would definitely recommend Fence & Post for your next staff function or date night!
Wonderful, prairie kitchen in historic downtown Cochrane. Great food and service
A bit disappointing. My duck was bland and my daughters shrimp were fishy. We were not able to eat the truffle flatbread. For the price I would have expected better. The service was great, though!
Amazing food. Highly recommend the fence and post.
Atmosphere is lovely and service was great. Not many vegan options on menu.
Great food, beautiful design and wonderful staff. This is one of our favourite places to go in Cochrane.
Amazing!!! Finally a restaurant that serves food out of the ordinary and is extraordinare :) Will save my money on run of the mill pubs and chain restaurants for this place! Please support them as i want to go back every week and tey something new
Greatbfood
We just had the duck with spatzle and it was delicious!
