Poppy's French Bistro in Collingwood

I paid 59.00 for a halibut special that offered nothing special; some kind of Thai curry paste on fish over mashed potatoes and a grilled onion. 29.00 for 3 grilled scallops drowning in orange pumpkin puree. Nothing French here; menu is lost, Wine list is great. Good Chardonnay. This is what happens before restos close.. :(

Very good food in a cozy, pretty atmosphere. The creme brulee was one of the best Ive tasted. Parking: Paid lot, but free on evenings and weekends Wheelchair accessibility: Theres a step up to get into the door and I didnt see a ramp.

Great patio, simple elegant bistro menu, very friendly staff, good food, reasonable prices. Definitely a keeper! Kid-friendliness: Good! Lots of room on the patio!

Great location and atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating available. We went on Saturday for brunch. The tower of beets salad and Caesar salads were both delicious. Eggs Benny and Petit Dejeuner meals were very satisfying. We finished the visit off with pumpkin spice cake. A very pleasurable experience, delicious food and friendly staff and we strongly recommend Poppys Bistro. We will return whenever we visit Collingwood. Parking: Sat and Sun parking is free. Other days metered parking is $1 an hour

Food is fantastic, portions are generous but not overly so. Service is always pleasant. Atmosphere is very charming and love the artist studios next door. Bitter sweet to hear the restaurant will be taking over the artist space soon. Well definitely be returning. Parking: Paid during the week, unenforced on the weekends.

Very overpriced for what it is. We ve eaten dinner and lunch there before and been disappointed with something we ve gotten the last few times. It has started to feel like a money making machine with less focus on the quality of their food.

No comments on food, but service wise terrible. Had a reservation booked well in advance and the night before they called to cancel for a group booking. Know another friend who has had them cancel less then 24hrs in advance as well. They offered no compensation or another reservation date in return for the late cancellation. Would not recommend to others and in no hurry to go back, quite disappointing.

Went as a group for a bachelorette/ birthday party experience in a table of 6 very chatty girls we went completely silent to eat the INCREDIBLE food. Would recommend the Croque Madame (the bread is insane) and treat yourself to a side of French fries since they re basically McDon s fries made boujee. Would recommend so amazing. Dietary restrictions: No non-dairy milk options, so be aware this place may not be non-dairy friendly!

Made the trek out here for a Sunday lunch. Well worth the drive! Fantastic space in a restored 19th century hotel. Food was amazing, and so was the service.

Avoid at all costs. The mussels were overly fishy, the beef tartar was brow(not fresh) the steak was over cooked, I got food poisoning the later that evening/morning. just an overall bad experience. When I called the next day to warn them about the mussels causing myself and my sister in law to become very ill I didn t even receive a call back. Upon emailing them to inform them I wasn t happy with receiving no response, they told me I could have gotten sick from many other things, their food not being one of them, didn t accept any of the responsibility and basically just wrote me off. I am sooo unimpressed with how it was handled, out of all the establishments in Collingwood this one should be avoided at all costs.

Top quality food and service. My wife and I went for dinner on Saturday night, it was very good so we went back for brunch the following day. We would highly recommend.

First time trying this restaurant and it was an excellent example of french cuisine. The mussels could have used a bit more flavour, but I understand the intention of the light flavours in the dish. The duck Confit was crispy on the outside while moist inside. It has a nice wine selection. I like the decor, but I feel that the flow of the restaurant is interrupted by the size/layout of the area - which is of course beyond their control. Thanks to Steve who was attentive and helpful.

The service was great and the food was good. Went for brunch and had the fig and brie pastry and the classic eggs benedict both were amazing. My partner ordered the roast beef sandwich, it was okay but I wouldnt order it again. Restaurant is on the pricier side

My wife and I were visiting Collingwood for the long weekend. We came across Poppys via google search, honestly.. great experience! Shawn helped make some great suggestions and the food was great! Definitely will come by again when were in the area.

Fantastic lunch!

We enjoyed the fixed menu with wine pairings on Thursday April 18. The menu was terrific, the food memorable, and we really appreciated the chefs and the wine guy explaining the choices and pairings. Staff as always were great. We always enjoy eating at Poppys but this night was especially memorable.

It was a lovely evening made very special due to the fantastic food and wine pairing. The culinary team s regular visits to the tables and chats made it a warm and inviting atmosphere. We are looking forward to the next wine pairing and delicious meal!

Had a great Saturday night dinner at Poppys to celebrate a special occasion. The service was friendly and prompt. Restaurant was packed, we reserved a few days in advance. Food was delicious! It was a bit loud though due to the obnoxiously loud group sitting next to us, but thats not the restaurants fault. We had the moules frites, steak frites and creme brûlée for dessert. All great choices.

Went for Fathers Day brunch at Poppys in Collingwood. Food and service were good and we had a nice time on the patio in the sunshine January 2024 Brunch. Four of us went for brunch. Meals were fine. I had pate and then bacon and eggs . Service was good. Parking: Free parking on Sunday morning

I visited Poppys French Bistro for the first time, was very impressed. A very cozy atmosphere, excellent service, cocktails and of course the food. Cooked to perfection. Had the tartare, duck confit and the Crème Brûlée. Everything about this meal was perfect, would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Just had a great dinner here last night to celebrate a special occasion. Staff was extremely attentive and corrected any minor issues we had (ie the server recommended a glass of wine that was not to my taste and she insisted on switching it for me). The food was flavourful, cooked perfectly, and overall just delicious! Atmosphere was nice. No complaints, great experience, highly recommend.

Went here tonight for dinner. Steve was our server. He was phenomenal! Kept on top or our drinks and explained the dishes very well so I knew exactly what to expect The chicken is a must! The way they prepare it sounds so good, it s very soft and the gravy it comes with makes the meal!

I came here for dinner with a few of my friends that were visiting from Toronto and we had the best meal. Our server, Kat, was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond to make sure we were well looked after and made some great recommendations. We were also checked in on by another server, Katy who was also fantastic and made sure we were enjoying our visit. All in all the service and food were fabulous! Not my first time there, definitely wont be my last :)

My husband and I took my sister here for dinner when she was in town and we absolutely loved our experience. Poppy s is the cutest little restaurant- beautifully designed and decorated! The food and service were also phenomenal- my sister ordered a cocktail and loved it as well. Would recommend!

An unique gem. I had the duck pate appetizer and it was prepared and plated to perfection. I could have drank the little bit of aspic that remained on the plate, it was so good. My chicken main was sublime. The brine made the chicken tender and it was seasoned beautifully. The au jus, veg and grilled radicchio was spot on. Fantastic service from knowledgeable and friendly staff perfectly complimented the experience and made me feel comfortable right from the start. I will be back for sure to try some of the other selections on the menu.

Just had an incredible dinner here! First off, they offer delicious non alcoholic drinks that are actually creative and fun. We had onion soup, and endive Caesar salad. Both great, the soup was perfect, the endive salad was really nice, dressed perfect. Lucky enough to be there while they offered a 24 ounce rib steak dinner for two. It came with a beurre blanc, mashed potatoes, green beans, fries, and yummy gravy. Steak was incredible. Ended off with a baked Alaska, and crème brûlée. Caffe au lait to top it off. Wait staff were all super pleasant and helpful. Overall the place is a hit. Go for it, I can t wait to go back.

My husband and I visited Poppys on a busy Saturday night and were truly blown away: stellar service, a gorgeous atmosphere and incredible food! My husband ordered the 24hr Brined Chicken and I had the Mussels + Frites, both of which were fantastic! We found the portions to be just right after sharing two appetizers. We will absolutely be back!!

Excellent spot for delicious French cuisine. The quality of the dishes is high and the prices are more than reasonable. The duck breast main, gnocchi and the appetizers were especially my favorites. Poppy s was brilliant this past Saturday. It was simply fantastic. Andrea took care of us, and was an absolute delight. She handled everything beautifully, and has a great sense of humor, so could have a little fun with us too. Outstanding service. Food was lovely and beautiful and the bartender whipped up some delicious cocktails! It also doesn t hurt that you carry my favourite rosé. We can t wait for the patio to open!

Collingwood has upped its game with some really interesting food spots of late. Weve tried three in the last few weeks. Last evening we tried Poppys. Poppys is in a restored century building, a lovely spot with a generous sized patio, nice decor and atmosphere with very attentive staff and good food presentation. The restaurant is adorable and looks like it was picked out of the pages of Pinterest on how a French Bistro should look. The food is OK. Its not horrible but not quite French Bistro quality. I really wanted to give more stars for the food but as someone who has frequented some great French Bistros ( it is one of my favourite styles of food) Its not there. We started with the Vol au Vent with mushroom and chicken. It had good taste and depth of flavour but the puff pastry was a bit soggy and definitely tasted pre-baked. It also didnt taste like it was made in house. There wasnt that crispy sound and when you cut in with flakes of pastry everywhere. The Paté de Maison was good but a bit strong on the liver taste. It needed something to temper that taste. Mains were good but... The Coq au Vin had overcooked veg and the sauce should have been richer and thicker consistency. Its Coq au Vin not chicken soup. The chicken was moist and had good flavour but a bit oversalted. The Steak Frites. The most important dish in any French Bistro. Meat was good and cooked to my order but not sure what a California cut is and why its on French Bistro menu. It wasnt a great cut of meat but flavour was there. My biggest disappointment was the Frites. I dont know where to begin with the Frites. A bistro should not have Frites that are anything other than hand cut, FRESH potatoes and doubled fried. Its a must. These were not. These frites were akin to McCains frozen french fries. If a restaurant is going to charge upward of $36 to $50 for steak frites, do it properly. I saw no point in complaining as they clearly wouldnt be able to produce proper Bistro frites as replacement. The cocktails were good. We had the French Manhattan which had good balance of flavour and no skimping on the alcohol. Wine was excellent. A good French Bordeaux. The Espresso martini with the Baked Alaska was a great combo. The Baked Alaska was a good attempt. Im trying to determine if it was a really good meringue or a cheat with soft marshmallow? Not sure but it did taste good. Our bill was over $250 for two people which included two cocktails, two starters, two mains, three glasses of wine and one dessert with a dessert cocktail. I think perhaps the corporate group that owns this place should invest in getting a trainer or consultant/chef in the kitchen who has French Bistro experience and can up their game and get the food to true French Bistro status. Its suspect when there is no chef listed on the website or the menu of a Bistro. They need an experienced Bistro Chef. Im not sure I would pay out for a dinner here again. The dishes all tasted good but some seemed to be pre-made and reheated. I may come back to try the brunch as the staff are great and its a nice spot to hang out.

Great food and amazing service!!

Food was okay. The French dip baguette was definitely reheated & chewy. There also wasn t a lot of meat in it. The eggs Benny was also okay, very salty, egg was way too over cooked and the hollandaise sauce tasted only of butter. As for the service, it was also okay also. We had ordered 4 drinks, 2 mimosas & 2 espresso martinis, they brought out 4 espresso martinis. We advised that we didn t order 4 and asked for the 2 mimosas, they still charged us for all 4 espresso martinis and the 2 mimosas. It s doubtful we would go back.

This is the best brunch Ive ever had! Ive been twice, and both times have had the eggs benedict, and both times its been delicious. Last time we were there, my son ordered the French toast and it was SO good. The service is fast and friendly (Kat has been my server both times, shes wonderful!) and the atmosphere is just lovely. I highly recommend Poppys and cant wait to try other things on the menu.

The ambiance of the place was wonderful. It felt very relaxing. Food was amazing. We had the duck pate and fig/brie tart to start, just amazing. Then we had the duck confit (yes we like duck lol) and the seafood bouillabaisse. Duck was melt in your mouth and the bouillabaisse was just flavourful. Ended with the pear tart and mint tea. Yes also amazing. To top it, our server Lexis was wonderful. Very attentive and made sure we were doing ok. We definitely will come back here and recommend this place.

My go to for a lovely date or a good night out with friends. Wonderful dinning experience. The food is always spot on, full of flavour and reasonably priced given the quality. The service is wonderful, staff is very informed and formal but not to the point where it feels too posh. They always have amazing seasonal menus and delicious features. A must try

My husband & I just happened upon this fabulous restaurant. We were looking for a glass of wine & an appetizer. The manager & our server ( I believe her name was Pat. sorry if wrong) were so lovely, very accomodating and fun. The food was delicious!! We could have sat there for hours enjoying the atmosphere & vibe. Our whole experience was 5 stars +++.. Thank-you to all the staff last evening.

Loved the decor, the service and especially the food. We shared the tatar, shrimp, oysters to start (make sure you have the bread, its amazing). I went for steak frites for my main, as I had the gnocchi the last time I was there (which was terrific!) the steak was cooked perfectly. Cant say enough about this place...just what Collingwood needed!

While the Coq au Vin was 1/2 cassoulet, it was still tasty. Great fries with it made it even better. Moules frites were also good. Great special occasion place. Nice wine list.

We so much enjoyed our experience at Poppy s. The cocktail R&R was just delicious and went down so easy. Hard not to have another. Food was excellent and the ambiance was perfect. Definitely will be back to enjoy again and looking forward to their Brunch.

The aesthetic and setting of Poppy s is lovely, and the food was delicious! However, for the price of the brunch dishes, there wasn t much to the meal. Brunch for two (without alcoholic beverages) cost $90, for context. Our server was not attentive and did not offer to refill our glasses, barely checked on us, and spent more time chatting with his fellow coworkers than helping us. Given the price, the service should match. Every other staff member seemed great and the young woman who brought us our food and cleared our table (basically doing our server s job) was wonderful. Overall, a wonderful brunch spot, but our service was lacking.

The aesthetic of the establishment itself is a 10/10. It s a beautiful spot. However our server was MIA most of our meal but was seen talking and laughing with staff. On the pricier side and portions were smaller. The food we had was delicious but there needed to be more to the plate to justify the price (even fruit or breakfast potatoes would have been nice) we paid $90 for our two coffees, eggs Benny and a dessert.. be prepared $$$

Stacey s review sums up our experience perfectly. We arrived for our Sunday brunch reservation at 11:15. I echo the 10/10 for atmosphere. We should have been the easiest table - eggs benny, french toast and two mimosas. French toast arrived cold throughout. Server was inattentive and never checked back to provide requested pepper for eggs. When you re paying $$$ these things matter. Coffee is just Nespresso. I hope that is temporary.

We visited Poppys for the first time for Fathers Day brunch. The food and service were great. The atmosphere was very cozy, while having lots of natural light and beautiful decor.

Just enjoyed another great meal at Poppys. The food is always a treat and the service is excellent. The French Onion Soup is a must try. And we love the endive Caesar Salad. So unique it brings us back! If you cant get to Paris this year, get a little bit of French ambiance on their patio!

We recently booked the entire restaurant for a milestone birthday in our family. As a foodie and someone that enjoys dining out, I was very surprised that Poppy s exceeded my expectations in the three area s that I find most important for a great experience. Food quality, service and atmosphere. You can see from my photos how beautiful the food is and how well it was presented. The decor is soft, feminine and made the perfect background for all of our photos and videos. We made use of the outdoor patio area as well and I highly recommend you take advantage of it while the weather permits. We worked with Neal the General Manager on the menu items and he was there the night of the party to make sure everything ran smoothly. Gillian and Steph were our servers and kept the party going with quick drink refills and prompt delivery of the courses. I don t know how one bartender kept this crowd happy but Steve was pumping out the drinks with ease. I highly recommend his espresso martini. I can t wait to grab a couple of my girlfriends and go for bunch or late afternoon cocktails and a charcuterie board.

This is not a French restaurant. They have multiple restaurants of different genres and none of them are authentic. We were so excited until we found out from our Uber driver they have an Italian restaurant in the village that we literally walked out of. Tasteless and NOT authentic. Dont be fooled by their marketing. Try something local. So disappointing.

Our experience was amazing specially with our server Andrea (Red)...she made our time dinning an experience that well share with our friends and family...we have been there a few times and she has served us a couple of them and I think great service and food goes together to make it memorable...well be back over and over..as long Red is there for sure...thank you for dinner tonight.

We ve been to Poppy s twice and they seem to be doing everything right. Service, decor, atmosphere: you get a good feeling from the time you arrive, are seated and served. We were excited to see this space taken up by a new restaurant since Tremont Cafe left. Only one problem exists, both times we have been there and agreed to by all the people that were there with us: the menu and the food. They are obviously trying to present something new and exciting but both visits we have been disappointed. The preparation of the food, the types of ingredients and the dishes offered are not something that makes us return until this changed. Very frustrating and disappointing. Sorry but thats the feedback that we feel is honest and fair

Great location and patio. Great service with Red, she was most delightfull. Steve was also most attentive and helpfull. Food was generally good. The onion soup was very good but larger bowls would have enhanced the quantity and presentation. Linen in the inside of the restaurant would be more appropriate for an upscale french bistro. All of the above would have improved the rating.

Had dinner At new restaurant in the area. They have done a beautiful job of creating a French inspired venue, both inside and out. It is very pretty, comfortable, and inspires their French menu. It was a very busy night, both inside and out, which added to the ambience, but challenged the service it seems. We were not served a water or offered a drink for at least 15 minutes upon our arrival. Following that it was another 20 minutes before we were offered menu options. The food arrived about 25 minutes later. The appetizer of beets was excellent, but the salmon was a very small portion, overdone and bland tasting, a little more sauce may have helped. The duck Confit was good, but the sauce was a heavy.gravy. The small serving of mash seemed to have been sitting for a while. I know it tough getting staff anywhere now, hopefully they can improve service and food quality over time.

Decor was nice but restaurant needed blinds as the sun was blinding to the eyes. The food was horrible. Cold pate with no taste. The hamburger had zero flavour and the for the mussel dish the broth tasted like salt. They also served 4 burnt crostini for 4 people. For the price and lack of food I would not recommend this place. The food looked gross when it came out, not at all pleasing to the eye.

Fantastic restaurant. The service was excellent, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. Wonderful addition to Collingwood. I will definitely be back, probably many times.

What a delightful evening. We felt like we were in Paris without the hassle of YYZ and CDG. The Bistro is decorated beautifully in french blues with a mix of old world chandeliers and modern touches. Lots of windows that overlook the outdoor spacious patio. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our server had our meal timed perfectly. Food and presentation was amazing. Lots of blueberries and raspberries accompanied my roasted beet salad and confit duck. The best treat was our chocolate tart. Not too sweet but slow melt in your mouth fun! Nice to see so many people tonight with friends and family sharing good food good wine and good conversation!

We have dined in at Poppys for two special occasions this month. On both occasions we were extremely pleased with the menu, prices, staff and all round service. Acoustics could be improved.

We had a very large group come in for dinner and our servers stayed on top of everything the whole meal. I had the mussels and the gnocchi - both were fantastic. I also really enjoyed their french inspired cocktails!

Delicious! This restaurant has such a kind staff and on top of that, absolutely amazing food! I would come back to eat here again. They have a beautiful and sophisticated atmosphere to enjoy with friends or a partner. 10/10!!

All I can say is WOW! Poppy s was absolutely outstanding! I attended with a large group and the servers never skipped a beat. The fast and prompt service blew us away. The decor and atmosphere here is unmatched, I felt like I was back in France. I had fresh oysters and the mussels with white wine sauce which I HIGHLY recommend, for the main course I had the Steak Frites that was cooked to perfection. I will definitely be returning for their magnificent cocktails as well. If you are in the area this is a must try!

So loved this place! The decor is fabulous, the servers were super friendly and efficient AND THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS! We just got back from Cap Ferret in France, where the oysters come right out of the water, and we didn t really think that a restaurant in Canada could beat that experience, but we were wrong!!! Way to go Poppy s! I swear they were tastier than the ones we ate in France! And the Shrimp, and the Steak Frites! Shall I go on? The Beetroot starter was also very pretty and tasty. My husband tried their new twist on a Caesar Salad. It was tangy and delicious. Bravo! Wine recommendations were also great (I heard the owner is a sommelier). A special mention to our server Gillian who was amazing (and not just because of her name ;)) We ll definitely be back!!

Excellent food with a lot to choose from. Our sever, Kristin, was amazing. The atmosphere was nice. The GNOCCHI PARISIENNE was delicious and we loved the baked Alaska.

Hello all of my fellow foodies! Lovely dining experience last evening. Have been a few times with my family and friends, the food is always consistent and the service warm. Steve and Red were very attentive. We will be back!

Very displeased. We booked the entire restaurant for a wedding reception dinner and while we were outside on the patio the restaurant incredibly seated other parties. Our large group was then forced into a cramped corner in the back. The restaurant offered almost nothing in compensation (the required gratuity was reduced from 20% to 18%, and they waived the minimum charge, which we d already surpassed). Also, we pre-ordered our meals but there was no record of this and we had to re-order. The food took a long time to come out (probably because there were so many other parties). The food was fine but nothing special. There were kids in the group and their meals came last. Some young families had to leave before the food was served as a result. The servers were, however, fantastic.

Poppys was incredible. We greatly enjoyed the food. Andrea(red) our server was an incredible delight. She regularly checked on how we were doing but didnt make us feel rushed to pick our orders. Was consistently asking how everything was too. She was awesome. This was my first time there (locals) and definitely not my last. I came with friends and will definitely be bringing my husband . Thank you for an incredible birthday dinner and night.

Absolutely fantastic, food, ambience and staff. Highly recommend

The food and ambiance was great but originally we were going to order glasses of wine and the waitress said you might as well go for a bottle and given the price difference with the bottle we decided to go for a bottle. When the bill came we were charged 25% more than the menu price for wine. When we raised it they said we raised our price but our menus are dated and the prices are wrong and they didn t correct the bill.

Loved everything about our experience as a party of four. Steven provided excellent service, cocktails were unique and delicious, all of our meals were extremely flavourful and exceeded our expections, the ambiance of the bistro and building were inviting and comfortable. We will definitely make this beautiful gem of a restaurant part of our Collingwood visits in the future!

Dinner out with a group. French food reinvented. Why? Not sure it needed to be reinvented. Wife ordered French onion soup - tasted burnt. Burnt source found - bread at the base of the soup was burnt. Wife pointed this out to the waitress who responded with I will let the kitch know. Was not surprised as the bread and butter ordered as an appetizer was also burnt, as was the bread served with our friends clams. Caesar salad = plate of endive leaves with parmesan cheese and dressing. No prosciutto as indicated on the menu - however it did have the croutons - and yes also burnt. My main course of dried (previously frozen?) salmon with transparent zucchini on a bed or greens. Baked Alaska was chocolate ice cream on a piece of chocolate cake covered in marshmallow and glazed over with a torch. Nothing seemed to flow. Tastes all over the map. I was hoping for great French food. However not this evening.

Cute spot for lunch! My fiancé and I arrived at opening for lunch and we were seated right away. We enjoyed eggs benedict and cappuccinos, which were solid. We ll be coming back next time we re in the area.
