132 Port Augusta St, Comox, BC V9M 3N7, Canada
Waterfront restaurant pub featuring local seafood & steak, regular pub fare, with outdoor oceanfront seasonal patio seating. Extensive wine & beer selection, including cocktails, craft beer, specialty drinks and many more.
Black Fin is the hidden gem of Comox, where the ocean view is as refreshing as the drinks! The food? Simply fin-tastic. Whether you're sipping a perfectly poured pint or devouring their mouthwatering mussels, every visit feels like a mini-vacation. A must-visit spot where the waves and flavors are equally unforgettable. The Canuck Burger is awesome 👌
A couple of months ago dined at Blackfin pub when we were vacationing in Vancouver and it was a memorable experience. The inviting atmosphere set the stage for a delightful meal. I enjoyed freshly made cocktails and perfectly cooked szechuan salmon. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing our experience. The highlight was their signature mud pie for dessert. Overall, a fantastic restaurant I can’t wait to revisit!
Great food, sexy views of the marina and beautiful ambience. Perfect place for a lunch date ❤️.
I had the wor wonton soup. Hands down the best Wor Won Ton soup I have ever had. The staff was very pleasant. I wish I could go here more often.
Excellent restaurant, great view from the patio. Alison our server was amazing! Took great care of us and every other table on the patio. Knowledgeable, attentive and fast with service. Drinks were great and food was excellent! Recommend it to anyone who is visiting Comox.
The food and our waitress Allisen was amazing! Only reason I would give it 4 stars when I walked in nobody was in front at the host station. I kept on walking to meet my family. I stopped to look at the menu the manager she was extremely rude. Asked me where I was sitting. I’m glad I don’t have to work for her!
Our first visit here are we enjoyed everything. From our greeting to table service and our lovely meal. I had the steak salad which was perfect. SL had the house salad with grilled chicken. She also really enjoyed her meal. A lovely view of course from the restaurant. We will return.
6/20/23- pros and cons Warning: DO NOT ORDER THE VEGETARIAN ENCHILADAS. They don't know how to cook enchiladas. The tortillas had too much dough . The ingredients were tiny. Practical nothing. It was severed dry, no sauce or anything. Server said they were new to the menu. You've been warned! While the views are great and the service is very good (except for the front house manager at the hostess stand with brown hair, Barbara she's extremely rude). The blonde hair hostess is very nice and considerate. The halibut is huge and severed well. I've enclosed photos of both, but unfortunately I ate it before taking photos, and left what you see because there was really nothing left to eat or see. The halibut had 2 pieces. I might come back again, but please don't order anything that might be a foreign dish. It's terrible!!!!
Delighted with the service, getting us a table on a busy Friday and the seafood mac and cheese and the fish and chips were delish.
Canuck burger was the best burger I can ever remember having-don t let it slide
McDonalds has better burgers. Nice view. Staff is polite.
Nice lunch, great service. Food and coffee were excellent. Would eat here anytime.
Schönes Ambiente. Toller Service. Nettes Publikum. Gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Parkraum ausreichend. Dietary restrictions: Options for vegan etc Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp
Good food and great views across the harbor. Service was a bit slow at first because they were busy but improved as the place emptied out a bit. Vegetarian options: A few veggie options but could use a few more.
Great place for views and atmosphere. Food is pretty good!
Excellent Food and our Server Scott was amazing. The curried mussels were amazing, I shouldve ordered 2 lol The snapper was cooked perfectly with an amazing crunch on the batter. The atmosphere is perfect with a wonderful view and the food is priced accordingly. You get big portions and all the staff are polite. My mom loved the chocolate martini. Big shout out to Scott for bantering with us, and giving us a wonderful first time experience. We will be back and was nice to BS with someone from the East Kootenays.
Excellent food and service.
Best spot to eat in the Comox Valley - great view, great selection of food on the menu, good service, and a really great atmosphere. It is my go-to spot when Im in town. Ive been going there since 2004, and no plans to ever stop. Note: no kids allowed
Warm welcome, Very good dinner, efficient service!
Always. Enjoy eating there, wonderful food and great people. Food
Delicious food and great service by Sam
Great food, great service, beautiful view. One of the best places on Van Island to eat.
The food was delicious, our Caesar drinks were very tasty and our server Stephanie was so friendly and attentive! Great place!
Wonderful place, not stuffy. Nice views from even our back table. Food was well presented, more than enough. Waitress seemed a bit harried. We had to ask 3 times for something, and she seemed irritated. Other than that, the food and atmosphere were worth it.
Always solid meal. Well done Pub menu, awesome service, great clean place on the harbor. Never disappointed.
The steak and prawns were really tasty and cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese was a bit bland though
Came here with 2 others and as soon as we walked in there were 3 employees standing at a server station who stared at us and didn t acknowledge us. There is a seat yourself sign so we waited, we made eye contact with all 3 of the employees and they still didn t come to greet us and just continued to talk with each other. Kinda felt like we were being judged and it made our experience feel really uncomfortable and unwelcoming. The food was good tho and we did enjoy all our meals.
They say they are open till 10 pm but when I entered there at 9:20 was told that food order is done at 9 pm. Maybe they can update their hours of operation in Google so people don t get confused.
Stopped in for an afternoon meal. Nice place with a great view. Service was ok, but food was subpar. Slices of pork, ham, and one pickle slice do not make a Cuban sandwich.
Best pub in the Valley, great food and service......
This was a great place for a supper. The cocktails were delicious. I highly suggest ordering on of their signature drinks. The seafood and appies were fantastic. Best keylime pie Ive ever had.
4 of us dined in. The atmosphere was great. Views of the ocean and Marina. Our server was a hoot. Food was great. Pacific Snapper Fish and Chips, Beef Burger, and Salmon burger. Everyone was delighted. Portions we good, food was cooked to perfection. Not much more a person could ask.
Its a great spot. Always good food
One of my favorite places to go when in the comox area. Atmosphere is alluring, water views, fireplace. Canoe overhead. Absolutely love the food and staff.
I usually love the Blackfin. I take all my out of town guests there because I figure it to be the best restaurant in town. This visit though was not a great experience. I ordered the steak and prawn dinner. What could go wrong? First when our meal finally came, it was a steady lunch rush, my steak was under done. Came blue rare. Waited around 15 mins to get a waitress attention to ask it be thrown back on the grill for a few more minutes. Steak came back. Tried 3 bites and couldnt gnaw through the sinew. Tough steak. No ones fault, just a bad cut but then I had to ask the server, super politely to replace my steak. No ones fault I said, just a bad cut. It happens. Her attitude changed from fairly pleasant to cold. So now I had to wait another 12-15 minutes for my new steak. Also at this point my companion is finished her meal. The upside, when my new steak arrived it was pure heaven. But no offer to discount my meal, or a dessert to share with my friend, no acknowledgement whatsoever about my meal. I only write this review because as a former chef, I know without a doubt its no ones fault, not kitchen nor service staff. But if that had happened at my workplace there would without a doubt be some form of acknowledgement. Although not the review I would like to write, I usually find the Blackfin exceptional. Happy eating everyone.
Great atmosphere and value for the money
This is one of our must visit locations every time we come to Comox.
Good service
It has an atmosphere like a golf course club house but with lots of seafood. Fish and chips were delightful, Fish tacos and micro caesar was only just decent. Bland, small.
First time here cad a visitor great service and bigger than I thought. Food vg and priced very well.
Whether on the patio or in the restaurant you cant go wrong at the Blackfin. The food and service is great but the view.... breathtaking!!!!
Excellent restaurant with reasonable opening hours, unlike the majority of restaurants on Vancouver Island which often close at the very beginning of the evening
First time here. Great menu and service was excellent. Loved the views.
Great view
Nice outside seating on the water, and pleasant staff. My wife and I both enjoyed the club, and kids enjoyed the burger and chicken burgers. The dressing in the house salad leaves something to be desired, but it wasnt bad - it just wasnt good.
Food, service and view is A1. We love Barb, hope she never leaves. Lisa and Ruby
Beautiful place and location, all the food is great. Just one thing that bothered my boyfriend and I is that our waitor was starting at the debut machine over my boyfriends shoulder as he was paying and tipping. That made us feel uncomfortable
Could not speak more highly of this restaurant. The view is breathtaking, the food is wonderful, & the service was caring & easy to talk to.
I waited 2+ hours for food. Is this a pub that decided to serve food but never updated their kitchen? Sure it was a busy evening, but 2+ hours for a piece of fish on rice?? And salad was forgotten. This after I waited 30+ minutes to be told that there s no fish for fish and chips. Really quick unimpressive. Won t be returning.
I have been to the black fin many times over the years and it never disappoints. Parking: It gets busy and the parking lot fills up quickly.
$38 Steak did not come with any side, only a lone steak, was not good. Calamari appy was all batter, did not taste like calamari. Poor, slow service, 5 waitresses and 8 tables. Did not get asked if we wanted more drinks after the first one. We made a reservation based on the online menu which was not the menu we received at the restaurant down stairs. Will not be back.
Staff was wonderful. The pub was very busy and we had no reservation but they were able to accommodate us in a very friendly and welcoming manner. Food was great. Loved the view of the Marina
Great atmosphere and service. Food was average pub food.
My first visit and pleasantly surprised with the ambiance, the nice food, the kind and very professional service. They pay attention to details. Thank you Alison and Kyla! I had the Beaufort Chicken and it was good, decent portion. My friend had a super size Teriyaki bowl and lots of leftover to take home. They have a huge wine selection as well. Very busy, great atmosphere. I recommend making a reservation Will go back to taste different menu options.
Excellent service. Food and drinks were amazing.
Good food good pricing. Will be back for sure
Terrible customer service.
Food quality at the Blackfin has really slipped recently. Had lunch here a few days ago the the pork schnitzel was very tough you could have resoled old boots with it. Complained to the waitress and she removed the schnitzel from my plate, didnt take the whole plate, and returned a few minutes later with a replacement by which time the rest of the food on my plate was stone cold. Considering the menu here hasnt changed in years youd think they could get it right. We wont be returning anytime soon.
Excellent food, service and views! We tried the hallibut and seafood linguine and both were absolutely delicious. Must try for seafood lovers in the area or driving through.
Spectacular views and amazing food! Our server out on the patio, Andrea, was very attentive and personable, made our stay very enjoyable! Definitely a come back!
Great special occasion eatery. Right on the water. Good views, good food and good service.
We came for supper with another couple. Our server was Steph and she took great care of us throughout. The table was not next to the window and we still had a good view of the water and mountains. The food was great and reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere. We will be back for sure.
Our favorite place to eat in BC!!! So good!! Service impeccable! Great view! Wish we lived closer to try all the food items!
Beautiful restaurant overlooking the marina. Good menu, well served portions, delicious halibut, friendly service.
Best Canuck burger ever. If I was on death row, this burger would be on my final meal list. Thanks.
Best suggestion taken and it delivered. We enjoyed snapper fish and chips as well as the stuffed yorkshire. For dessert youll absolutely love their house made keylime lime pie. What a treat! Worth the drive from Nanaimo. Cheers.
Our best restaurant so far! Scott is the best server we ever had. Food
Absolutely Amazing. Super Service. Very clean . A spectacular view. Parking: Small lot , but plenty of street parking . Food : 5/5 |
Its been a minute since weve been back to the BF. We had friends arrive from out of town (Manitoba) and wanted to show them one of our great restaurants. Over the top is all I can say. The food was amazing, and the little spitfire waitress we had made it even more enjoyable. My War Won Ton was absolutely awesome!!
Nice view over Comox harbour. Peak periods parking are busy. Clean, tidy, relaxed, and a patio with good view. Kid-friendliness: Have seen families enjoying meals together. Also a large kiddies playground at bottom of hill below the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: Dont know
Food was good! Had their Caesar salad and bacon wrapped scallops. Very good. Beautiful views, would go again. Didn t try their drinks though they sounded yummy!
Food was great, a bit loud.
Service is great, atmosphere is superb and the view is next to none. Had the Halibut again, cooked perfectly!
My timeline shows my visit here. But honest truth is I was across the street eating at Off the Hook. Im not going to eat at the Black fin, the owner turned me away and refused to put our group of four on the waiting list. So! Off the Hook is Amazing for its foor and staff.
Busy and buzzing pub. Good food and service.
Fantastic fish tacos, the sauce was delicious.
Vegetarian options: Several delisious options availble. Food
A nice upscale pub with an extensive menu. Service was friendly and our meals were good. The view from the upper balcony is gorgeous.
Great food, beautiful location Parking: Maybe 20 spots? Wheelchair accessibility: Not bad if accompanied
Decent food but the view is the real attraction!
Over rated. Should improve their burger patties or take them off the menu. The chicken vegetable soup with barley was tasty but very small size as it came as a side to the burger. It was not listed on the menu. Would like to see it added to the menu with the same portion size as their french onion soup. Very little space between tables. Congratulations West side Edmonton, you are better than Wendys on Vancouver Island, and better than the burgers at the Black Fin Pub . who would of thought? Shout out to my Edmonton West Side 170th Street Wendys! They know how to cook burgers well done without burning them and they are nice and juicy not dried up and half burnt. Backstairs burger is also better but then you are paying a little more. The Black Fin Pub must be more of a seafood restaurant, definitely not a burger joint.
Nice view The server was a little overtaxed and so a little slow. All the food was delicious. Would recommend Food : 5/5 |
Great food excellent food great view of the water and Marina
Love it. Great food and people
My Girl and I have visited Blackfin Pub, two times in a month. We have never returned to an eating establishment twice in a month. That in and of itself says it all. The food was delicious the service was impeccable, thank you Jody (she was our server, both visits). If you think burgers are a food group, try the Canuck burger and my Girl says that the Cod and chips is marvelous. And the house are excellent as well. Well worth the drive from Nanaimo in our opinion.
Service was okay One guest so they put me in a back corner instead of balcony or front view table, that I requested. One vs two Why discriminate a paying customer! Worst ever fish tacos I have ever had. All it was , was batter. Couldn t tell if fish or chicken. Just batter and too much seasoning. Very unfortunate for this paying customer and have since heard disappointments from others.
Great food, good service, good prices. Try it , you will not be disappointed.
Great food and drink
Ate here on April 23 and April 25; 2024. First time I ordered a salmon burger and left most of the bun; it was kind of dry and yet fell apart while I was eating. Second time, 2 days later, I had the burger and same thing, the bun seemed old and I left half of it. They need better buns and not the brioche buns please. Wish I could attach the photo of my burger to this review! I had company visiting so thats why I chose this place- the view is lovely and I find the service is excellent.
The best fish and chips ever!!!!
Great seafood chowder and cornbread. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes. Recommended dishes Seafood Chowder Parking options
I am in love with this place ..the food is super delicious..the service was more than excellent..thanx for the team who works hard enough to please their guests ..
When we visited Blackfin, the owner, Ed, gave us a warm welcome that made us feel instantly special. Our server, Stef, was both kind and efficient, enhancing our dining experience. The meal started with an onion soup that nostalgically reminded us of childhood, followed by an outstanding halibut fish and chips with perfectly crispy batter and succulent fish. Blackfin impressed us with both its exceptional food and service. Every detail was carefully handled, turning our meal into a memorable experience. If you re looking for delicious food and welcoming staff, Blackfin is a must-visit. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free dedicated menu.
Awesome fish and chips, nice a relaxing views . Give it a try you wont be disappointed.
Probably the best service we ve received in the valley. My wife and I were really impressed, it was the service that made the difference Food
Our server Nathalie was super experienced and an excellent server. She took great photos and never stopped running tables with a smile. When it came time for the bill she had no troubles splitting them up and thanks to her our early retirement party was seamless. The food was really good as well, dine out options of portobello and ling cod and trio of dessert were all delicious
Great spot near the waterfront in Comox. Excellent food, service & atmosphere. Well done Blackfin!
The food was amazing and the view was incredible to match!
Good food
I love the Blackfin. Ive never had a bad meal, the menu has lots of choices and the view is super pretty :)
What happened, used to great, off night? Service was good, food was not. A nice place, great atmosphere. A simple Caesar Salad was terrible! Over dressed, poor parmesan, mayo tasting commercial bottled dressing, no taste of anchovy, lemon, the large was the same portion as the small, bowl was bigger only with large. Bowl of mush with no presentation. With 3 tasteless shrimp $20. Crab cakes were too salty to eat. I ll go back and try again, not the Caesar Salad or Crab cakes. Make your Caesar salad great not an after thought, you can do it.
Great service and food we will be returning
Thank for making my Dads 91 th Birthday so Amazing
Food is good, service is good, views are good.
Went multiple times and the food is very good, service is good. Extra points for the Creme Brulee it was a nice surprise.
Beautiful view of the marina and mountains. Food was tasty . Service was very good. Friendly staff. Would go back next time Im in Comox, BC.
The service was quick and the food was okay. I wish they gave more paper tissues as you eat anything with your hands, I had to ask multiple times as they bring only one small tissue per person. The music was really great here. Food
Visited the dockside downstairs. It was a lovely dining experience. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor entrance, no stairs. Although the this restaurant is tnemlower half of the building, so the sidewalk approach is downhill from the main direction. There is a lot of space between tables. Tables and chairs are easily moved to accommodate various seating arrangements.
Great staff delicious food
Dockside is a great place! The food is wonderful!!! The truffle fries are too die for! Great service too!! Will definitely return! Vegetarian options: Plenty of options. The falafel burger is awesome! The saffron risotto is a favorite as well!
This my second visit and they made my birthday experience wonderful great ambiance pleasant server. Always full make reservation in advance parking is also limited, so a short walk may be necessary
I really enjoyed my visit. The staff were gracious and accommodating. I was able to secure a window spot for lunch and enjoyed the views. I had the seafood chowder. Writing this I am craving another bowl! It comes with garlic toast, however they kindly switched this to garlic free as I am not a garlic fan. I found it quite a hearty bowl of great looking chowder with lots of sea food for $13. I cannot wait to return. See you on my next visit.
Usual great food and great service. Had a great mini family reunion dinner.
Food was good, like their fries especially. Their two party burger is huuuge! Be warned.
Excellent food and our waitress was amazing. Well be back for sure.
Good local bar vibes with a very nice view. Very good service, never had bad food.
I visited Dickside last Saturday evening with friends and to say the least I was not impressed. At first impression I felt like I was in someone s basement rec room - low ceiling, pillars, open space- no ambience at all. I ordered the salmon with miso butter sauce thst came with grilled vegetables and couscous. As I don t eat starches, I asked for more vegetables but all they were prepared to give me was broccoli, which I can t eat. The menu price is $32 and when the plate arrived there was a very small piece of overcooked salmon, 3 slices of squash with the rind on, and 3 pieces of green pepper. For a restaurant that is virtually on top of the marina, you d think they could cook a piece of fish and not overcook it. Aldo, the portion was very small. I had to go home to eat because this was not satisfying in any way. On top of that, they had live music that started at 6pm and was so loud I couldn t hear my friends across the table, and I couldn t get the attention of the waitress either. When the band finished their set they turned on canned music that was just as loud. We had 3 different wait staff during dinner and I wanted to give feedback on the salmon but couldn t get the attention of the original waitress. All in all it was very disappointing. I would suggest waiting for warmer weather and sit outside. As far as value for the meal - terribly overpriced!
We dined at The Dockside, the new sister restaurant to the Blackfin last night and really enjoyed ourselves. The service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. We ordered the smash burger and seafood risotto which were delicious!
My husband and I have been trying for over a year to get into the Blackfin Pub, for a feed, but the place is always very busy. We finally got into the pub for our anniversary lunch. Everything about the place was wonderful.
Very disappointed we had a reservation 15 minutes late and it was given away. The area we were put to was very cold and drafts were coming in the door. Very DISAPPOINTED
Delicious and quick service despite being busy. Odd observation, we were the youngest couple there on Valentines Day. Great view of the marina. Wheelchair accessibility: Unsure if bathroom is accessible, but ramps in and throughout restaurant.
Always love going to the Blackfin. Has Always been our go-to pub in Comox.
Great place! Went for a friends birthday, it was spectacular. Will be back for sure
Went for date night with my wife, busy so Im glad we made a reservation. Food and drink was amazing, service was quick.
Fish and chips excellent! Try the Blackfin lager, one of the best. I only wish I could find it for sale!
Awsome food. Great view of the marina.
Great Seafood
Our favourite spot in the Comox Valley. Breathtaking views from the outdoor patio. Awesome food reasonably priced. Can t wait to go back.
Delicious calamari
The fish and chips was honestly disappointing. I paid the market price for the fresh cod, it was crispy however the fish itself was very dry and required a lot of tartar sauce. Although a great portion, and amazing service, just disappointed in the low quality of the food for the price.
We enjoy taking visitors to the area, knowing that they will be served delicious, west coast selections, and the view cant be beat!
This place hits it out of the park every time. The food here is unreal! Food
Enjoyed an amazing meal. Great service, beautiful views! Highly recommended!! Food
Just wished more room was here. Had to go downstairs and had hardly the atmosphere, food variety, and view. Black Fin restaurant was full of customers so had to downstairs restaurant around back. Also was extremely expensive!!
What a great place to go for an after work wind down or treat yourself and enjoy their delicious menu. I love their mussel appetizer. The best restaurant ocean view around and only a block from the harbour.
In my opinion the Black Fin has the best restaurant view in all of the Comox Valley. The food is always good, the service is wonderful and the view is priceless. Parking: This is lots of parking but most of it is taken during peak hours when the restaurant is at its busiest.
Im from Italy and it is my favourite place here,so my Canadian plan dinner parties at Blackfin every time I come to visit them. Have a try and enjoy!
Pretty good
Good food, great views. Really enjoyed ourselves.
They close at 9 but got asked 3 times if we wanted to go containers at 8:20, they should change the hours instead of trying to push ppl out the door
Had a nice lunch there with friends
For the price, food and view you cannot beat this. For the price of a burger at any other place youll get ribs, mashed, 3 vegatables. Huge cocktails for $9. Why such a different caliber of restaurant food for the price you pay. Others need to eat here and step up their game.
The restaurant itself looks very nice, great view of the marina if youre sat by the windows. Would recommend asking in advance. The main meal and drinks are delicious, but the baked brie appetizer was very disappointing for what I paid. The service was good but they seemed every rushed. The atmosphere was way way too loud could hardly hear my partner on the other side of the table. But overall nice place I believe. Wheelchair accessibility: They have a wheelchair ramp.
Blacking Pub was a fave spot when I lived in Courtenay years ago. Decided to check it out when I was just on a weekend getaway. The atmosphere was amazing and how I loved seeing the storm clouds pass by the beautiful huge windows that look over the Marina. Food was amazing and the were able to accommodate me being celiac. Portions were huge. Our server was amazing!! So welcoming, always smiling and quick with any of our needs. Highly recommended Dietary restrictions: Able to accommodate Celiac
Great view great service and great food. Loved it will go back.
Excellent gem of a place in Comox, a big step up from pub food, more of a upper mid scale restaurant than a pub
The dockside was a breath of fresh air. The steak was on point, and a great smash burger. Cant Wait to see patio in spring!
yaar! long at sea we have been! hungry we are! long at sea my crew and i have hunted the white whale! the demon that took me leg! vengence i will have upon that cursed beast! we will take one days rest in port then set back upon the waves to further quest for our prey! good fish n chips!
Let me start by saying I dont eat fish or shellfish because of personal choices, but I had to make an exception for the Blackfin. Great view, great service, great local ciders and the Dungeness crab and prawn mac and cheese exceeded my expectations!
This review is for DOCKSIDE the lower restaurant. Best burger Ive had in so long. The server (sam was her name I believe) was so welcoming and hospitable, very helpful with suggesting menu items and answering questions. The room looks nice but it somehow doesnt feel inviting yet, that could also have to do with the evening being on the slower side. Overall everything that really matters to me was EXCELLENT, food and service were top tier.
my go to restaurant. excellent food and attentive service
Beautiful views of the harbor.
Very good food the staff are very friendly
Great food efficient and friendlyservice Parking: Parking adequate in the area. Free street parking Kid-friendliness: Kids not allowed
Tasty food and great service.
Enjoyable experience but very loud with a full house.
Great spot, good food, good service. Views spectacular...nice seating and accessible entrance and seating areas with ramp or stairs. Will certainly go back again. Serving sizes very generous! Parking can be a bit tricky as its very busy and smallish lot, but there is a Town owned lot kitty corner to pub - and free.
Dinner was great and the service was excellent.
