Hong Kong Style Food, Chinese Food
This restaurant will never challenge for anything more than authentic clutter of trays of dirty dishes stacked by the bar and a very ordinary seating area that makes no illusions about being decent and nice. The ladies who are both front and back are not English speaking but we are okay with the idea that they don't cater to a Caucasion crowd that much (but they should try to). We have gone there 4 times now and the first two the food justified the sparse interior. But the last visit about 9 months ago for take out dinner not so much. We live a 30 minute drive away so we expect a special feast when we go there and the prices are not cheap. They charge as if they are top drawer and they have been in the past in my opinion. Their take out this time was skimpy!!! The deep fried won ton is now some store bought cheap and frugal version and the portion we received was unsatisfying for us three. It was not the robust and plentiful won ton we received on our first visit. And for twenty bucks we get a meagre portion. Sweet and sour really not great either and again for the price why go so cheap! Lastly our fish dish was bland and boring and served in a medium takeaway plastic bowl that could have been a good meal for one, but was rationed out by the spoonful to be fair. So what is your attraction Deer Garden? Friendly welcoming service from your ladies? No thank yous and we didn't feel like our business was appreciated. Good food in portions that justified our 60 bucks? Nope. Or maybe I should exercise your tip option....what a joke!
The food was decent, and the experience was enjoyable, but I’m unsure if it’s worth a return visit. The service also took a bit longer than anticipated.
Did takeout, fried rice tasted great just not sure if it was worth $20 but I still enjoyed it. Place was busy and service was normal standards.
We rushed in for a late lunch almost 3pm The owner recommended us to try their Four meat balls noodle which was absolutely delicious. The thin noodle just tasted like Hong Kong’s. The curry beef brisket also just the right taste. Next time we will definitely go back try their sweet and sour pork.
Had takeout order of one of their speciality sweet and sour pork, which had thin batter and good quality of pork. Also beef fried rice was unexpectedly delicious. Both were outstanding. Surely will return and order again. And very friendly customer service!
Interesting resto that seems to be doing well from take out business. Big space but they only use maybe a quarter of it with two waitresses. We tried their curry beef and it seems off compared to when they were at their old location outside of the mall. Still good but just off and the pieces are higher. I didn’t expect to pay almost $60 for two simple dishes. Will come back if I’m craving curry.
All servers are very friendly! Glad to taste the best handmade noodle in Metro Vancouver so far! Tripe is soft and very tasty, not to mention the wonton, beef balls and HK-styled milk tea. Prices are very reasonable given the quality and generous portion of dishes! Will come back for sure!😋😋
Really friendly service. The food is typical HK/Chinese cafe -- noodles, congee, milk tea...etc. Lobster and crab special meals available but must order in advance. Love the steam milk dessert! Update... been back several times and the food, service are consistently excellent!
Handmade noodles is so good . Porks Trotter is also terrific
Excellent Hong Kong Style food and beverage ! My first choice......
Best hainan chicken n rice in coquitlam. Great deals, today a box o crispy fried fish skins always a good snack or good w congee. They also make the best chilli oil to go, but is hard to find as they sell out so quick
Old style Hong Kong style restaurant. Food is so so and atmosphere is smelly.
Watch out for their hidden charge of 50 cents for take out container. This practice is getting ridiculous! Do I bring my own pot now? And they even put the take out in a bag! You pay.
Awesome food, great prices
I must say, my picture of Deer Park no longer exists! Now the taste of Luyuan has changed. I don t know if it s because of a change of chef or a change of store. The food is really different from before! It tastes terrible.
On Sunday night, I came back to this restaurant again. The restaurant is not luxuriously decorated, but it is better than a more civilian restaurant, and the food portions are quite large. That night, looking around, it seemed that the deep-fried food was excellent, at least there was no scorch in the fried food. . Two people ordered [Fried Seafood Fish] and [Stir-fried Chinese Cabbage with Shredded Chili Peppers and Bean Curd]. We served [Stir-fried vegetables with shredded pepper and fermented bean curd] first, and got a share of the chefs skill. Heat oil in a wok, sauté garlic until fragrant, add Chinese cabbage and stir-fry briefly, add fermented bean curd sauce and Chaotian pepper and stir-fry until cooked, add cornstarch water and stir-fry for 10 seconds. After waiting for about six or seven minutes, [Fried and Sealed Fish] also appeared on the stage. The size of the fish is really worthy of praise, it is super big. The frying and sealing are in place, and the oil quality seems to have not been reused in frying oil. It is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. [Note: Please do not complain. If you order fish in the future, it will not be so big. Due to the different arrivals in each issue, please check the season! ! ]
Delicious food and affordable!
Today, I came here with my friend to have an early lunch. I plan to order a deep fried chicken drumstick and thigh with rice and black pepper sauce. The waitress they no longer offers chicken drumstick and thigh, they have chicken stick only, I agree to it. I also ensure her 3 times I only want black pepper sauce. After 10 minutes, my dish arrive with the tomato sauce with chicken drumstick and thigh with rice. I told the waitress this is not what I ordered. The waitress insists this is blackpepper sauce, it is their own style. It looks orange color, but it has blackpepper inside. Then I taste it, it is a tomato sauce with crush black pepper inside. I ask them to give me sperate black sauce, they refuse my request and still insist I have the black pepper sauce, I told them this is tomato flavour sauce with black pepper in it. While I am eating, the other staff come by ensure they gave me chicken drumstick and thigh with blackpepper sauce, and they unwilling to admit their fault that they make the wrong order. How can a simple dish make a simple mistake? And just admitted they make a wrong order, and apologize then give me the correct sauce. This is such a simple task. I WILL NOT go back to this deer garden again in my life, not even for any reason !! Not willing to admit their fault and unwilling to correct their mistake, plus lying to customer and think all customers can be fool by what they are saying. This is unacceptable!!! And keep telling all other customers in the restaurant that they are giving me what I order! I am a customer, I deserve to get what I ordered, even their is error in the order, I demand they fix their error and make it right for me. I paid for my meal, and all I get is the wrong order and waitress tell next table that i am the one not knowing what I ordered. This restaurant and waitresses are ridiculous!!! Worst experience ever!!!!
Authenticated Hong Kong style restaurant
Our dishes were excellent!
Fried noodle is excellent. Wonton soup is also good. Price is reasonable. Interior decoration may need some update.
The restaurant is freezing cold! The dish is cold too! Not a authentic Cantonese eatery. Maybe taking out is OK.
Ive ordered from this restaurant many times. It used to be very good. The past few times ive ordered however, the food quality was terrible. The Hainan rice was stale and dry. The HK style baked spaghetti was disgusting. It wasnt even baked and looked like it was just thrown together haphazardly. It looked completely unappetizing and tasted even worse. I ended up throwing it out. Definitely do not recommend this location. I will not be ordering from here again.
Service was okay, there was only one lady there that made it pleasant :) Ordered the haianese chicken w/ rice and I am honestly a bit disappointed especially for the price point. Ontop of that, I got a stomachache after. The chicken was a bit too salty, there was only one piece that had ample meat on it, the rest was mainly skin and bones with just bit of meat. The rice itself was good along with the onion sauce which made it a bit less dry. I also ordered iced lemon tea that was delicious. I am not sure if I would want to come here again to be very honest. I ve ordered hainese chicken with rice from other places before and it always comes with soup (also more affordable) but here did not. I should have asked beforehand if it came with soup so it was my bad assuming. The soup however would ve helped with the dryness though. Something to consider for the future.
Ive always liked going to this place because it serves the best westernized Chinese foods in GVRD. The Yang Chou style fried rice they serve is out of this world! My entire family, incl. two of my grandsons cannot get enough of that stuff.
A no fuss Hong Kong style Chinese restaurant. The curry beef brisket is a must try item. It is not spicy but tasty.
Ordered baked pork chop on rice, the sauce was delicious! What would make this dish a 5 star is a crispier, thicker pork chop. This place is really good otherwise, give it a try ;) Their HK style milk tea was also legit.
This is my first pick when I want to have delivery food for sweet and sour pork. It s probably the best that I ve had in Burnaby and Coquitlam. Their curry beef is very good too. Yum yum.
Went with a group of friends and we got sweet fried shrimp, honey garlic beef, salt and pepper squid, salt and pepper pork chops, sweet and sour chicken, broccoli and tofu, curry beef brisket, chicken fried rice, and deep fried pumpkin. All of it was amazing but my favourite was the salt and pepper squid and shrimps! Servers are very nice and there is a lot of seating. There is also underground free parking for the mall you can park in. Will go again!
I had Hainanese chicken rice a year ago, but this time I was disappointed. The rice with chicken oil was uncooked and the portion of Hainanese chicken had shrunk! Not recommended
I wish I could give zero star. The service is horrible and the do not care about customers. I was shooed out even though I had placed an order and I let them know multiple times, had to wait until they let me in to let them know I was there just to pick up.
Traditional Cantonese comfort food with high quality and generous portions.
The rice noodles we ordered were wrong and the chef made the wrong noodles, which resulted in a very bad taste. The waiter was chewing something while serving. The service was poor and not recommended.
must try their Yangzhou fried rice- the best in town! I d give it a six-star if there is.
This is the best bang for buck place for good Chinese food. Very reasonably priced. Please do not expect the best service as these places are often understaffed but just get your orders in somehow and enjoy your food! Sweet and sour pork/chicken and other similar variations are insanely good.
Great experience with take out as always
We ordered some pork dish from them and it was hard as a rock! Not only was the whole thing over cooked, but it was mostly batter with little to no meat inside. Very disappointed and will not order from them again.
Best Chinese food in the Tri-Cities always fresh hot and plentiful. Good people keep it on your regular short list.
They have offered quite decent Cantonese food here.. Price are quite reasonable... Strongly recommend whoever enjoy Chinese food ...:)
Try the curry beef brisket and garlic gai lan.
Cooking expert
The taste is good, the portions are generous, and the ingredients are well-chosen. just
Good food but too stingy to collect money for takeout boxes.
Old-school HK/western style restaurant with generous portions all around. We ordered Singapore style vermicelli and Beef rice noodles with XO sauce and couldnt finish. (Also their chili oil is to die for.) Service was quite good as well for these kinds of establishments; dont expect waitresses to hang around your table all day, but they were courteous and came around a few times to top up tea.
Authentic tea restaurant, the products are of high quality, the place is clean, there are not too many people, the greeting is warm, recommended
The Chinese food here is the best in Vancouver! Must try if missing home and craving for authentic Hong Kong style cuisine.
Nice little community restaurant. Friendly staff, nice food! Honestly, you cant expect too much with that kind of price. However, milk tea is awesome!
Very nice wonton noodle and authentic Hong Kong style milk tea
Came in for lunch for the first time and we really enjoyed all the dishes we ordered , we had the sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, the fried fish and the corn soup the portion was great and the servers were friendly. We would definitely comeback and try more of their dishes
The West Toast Noodles are super delicious! Highly recommended!
Food is always great here.
This restaurant serves excellent Cantonese cuisine at very affordable prices and has been doing so consistently for a very long time. I remember frequenting this place since I was a kid, and not much has changed since then. Would highly recommend to those who are craving traditional Cantonese food in the Coquitlam area.
It is tasty and good value
This place makes very authentic Chinese food not American style good old fashion Chinese food
Food is good. I like the beef brisket noodle and wonton.
Good service and very good curry brisket rice. Its always full of flavour.
Soo good
Great service! Food was amazing and restaurant was clean! Would 100% recommend the baked pork chop on rice! It is so delicious!
Good food, good service, it is that simple. Used to come here years ago at their old location, noticed the same lady working as a hostess of sorts and she is still pleasant to talk to. Food is creative but still has that Chinese food feel that everyone seeks. Thank you Deer Garden.
Very traditional Hong Kong style Chinese cuisine . Quality has already been maintained. Hanai Chicken and curry beef brisket are unbeatable and I would vote the best in BC.
Good food with good portions.
Ordered hainanese chicken, sweet and sour pork, and curry beef. The hainanese chicken is super salty! Its saltier than what Id expect on a .. the curry on the other hand tastes kinda watery for my taste.. sweet and sour pork and the soup was good though.. as Im typing this I also remembered its supposed to come with dessert but we werent given it
Good food
Price scams, make sure to check before pay. Owners changes price without letting customers know. And get upset when customers point out their mistakes. Their official website has cheaper prices so dont forget.
Every dish filled with GSM and oily, make me so thirsty the entired night. Will not come back again. 6/8 Update: thanks for following up and sorry for typo. Yes, Im referring to MSG. I think most seasoning contains MSG , and if using too much it will make people thristy.
Good Chinese spot. The usual loud and busy atmosphere. Eggplant shrimp paste (kind of sweet and sour sauce over it) was good.
Some of the best Chinese food in BC. Period.
Although this is a Chinese restaurant, they also sell western-style spaghetti bolognese, which tastes AMAZING. I highly recommend others give it a try, as the portion is pretty big, considering the relatively cheap price. They have other Chinese dishes too, but I mostly just come for the spaghetti.
Thumbs up for the two dishes; sweet & sour pork, satay beef pot. Both in big portion, fresh jasmin rice is a plus! Slightly too many pineapple in both dishes. Could the courier not deliver my UberEATS order by foot, although it was a close distance, 15 mins walk. Food slightly turned cold
Good food and friendly staff
Love this place. Been having difficulty finding a legit Chinese restaurant in the area. Most of them are either food court quality or just terrible. Super happy I found this place for congee and Chinese donut.
The portion and price is good, but too salty. I specifically told them to minus the salt and MSG except foods they already marinated. The outcome was worst than normal saltyness. It ended up we threw out the takeout. Highly disappointed.
I would give a minus 10 star. I don t know where the good reviews are from but my experience is terrible. I have never had food as terrible as this before. Wrong order for 2 dishes out of 4. The server did not acknowledge her mistake whatsoever-I told her twice and she just ignored me. 3 dishes our of 4 tastes terrible. They are oily and way too sweet. If you call this authentic Hongkong style restaurant, it is an insult to the cuisine. Still tipped them but they don t deserve it. Avoid this place and spend money elsewhere. Hi Owner, Giving your restaurant one star does not mean I am your competitor. I tell my real experiences. Everything has proof. I have receipts, time, name of dishes I ordered. What do you mean by you feel sorry for me since NO restaurant suit my taste? Your restaurant does not stand for ALL restaurant. Thanks for you apologize but I don t want to eat any food from your restaurant anymore. It gives me bad headaches and one of the dishes was so sweet that I felt I had a diabetic attack. There are plenty of awesome restaurants out there It is my first time trying in your restaurant then it ended very badly.
taste good
Friendly, good food, good service. Reasonable price.
very good food and good price
Really love the food in this place! My friends and I travel just to eat here and its really worth it. If you wanna try something new and want to try Chinese food then you should give Deer Garden a try, youll find satisfaction on their food and service. The restaurant looks good in the interior and the food is just the best! Highly recommend this restaurant if youre craving Chinese food. Ill post some photos of the food here on my review next time my friends and I come by again. Hope the review helps.
I enjoyed everything until I found a worm in my vegetables. I ate half of the dish and who knows if I ate any worms. I lost my appetite for sure.
Worst service I have ever seen. Once you have paid your bill, the waitresses will expect you leave right away. If youre not going to, they will flip the cups over and over in front of you with very loud noise ! This happened 2.5 years ago !! Five of us were arranged sitting on a small table inside right behind the kitchen !! There were many empty tables around. I could hear the big loud sound of flipping cups inside the washroom !! Its really the worst experience which made you suffering instead of enjoying the dinner!
I love the food there! The curry beef brisket and noodles were lovely. Service is super friendly. Will definitely go back.
I went to this restaurant to eat two days ago and saw a woman standing in front of the bar. A thin waiter walked up and asked the woman if she had had plastic surgery, but he still wanted to talk to the woman loudly. You shouldnt go out wearing high-heeled shoes. Am I wrong in my thinking! What shoes you wear has nothing to do with you. It s all about you. How can you talk to someone like this when you are a relative? I saw that woman before she left. At that time, I got the right shoes and dared to go out. Its a joke. I have been talking about it many times since I took the trouble to do so! I really can t stand it!! The waiter flew away when I complained!
food are OK service is soso.
Got very good congee and fried rice here to go. Super delicious and the price aint bad at all. Highly recommend anyone to check this place out.
I have been to this restaurant for many years. Each time I go back, either the price has gone up or the portion size has gone down. Getting very disappointed as I like the food there. Will never go back again.
Wonton noodle, pan fried beef rice noodle, sweet & sour pork are must!
Me and my family has gone to deer garden since they were in their old location and its always been our go-to Chinese restaurant in Coquitlam. We were glad they re-open in this current location and we still continue to go there as they serve real authentic Hong Kong cafe style food and curry. We also enjoy the great service there as they know most local customers by name. Highly recommend if youre looking for some authentic Chinese food.
very good foods
Best boneless honey garlic pork - so tender and tasty. I ordered takeout and it was very quick - the wait was less than ten minutes.
Very friendly
They have ebrithen
The best curry in the Lower Mainland!
The same old Deer Garden ... Curry Pork Chop and Fried Fish Skin
Best sweet and sour pork by far!!! Green beans with chicken in black bean sauce was really good too. Great service, very friendly.
Best authentic Chinese lemon iced teas and HK milk teas around :] This resto was the original deer garden before the signature series franchise began.
Bad,pricey food with little meat in fried noodles.Servers are rude.No improvement, tried eating there many times.
The Hainanese chicken was super ugly, tasteless, no chicken flavor. Compared with the chickens of the past, there is a huge difference. When will we be able to savor the Hainanese chicken again?
Always very good food and service
The food is so bad that it has no taste, the Hainanese chicken is off the mark, but there are lovely waiters, so there are a lot of food. Please improve the food.
I come here once in a blue moon for their wunton soup, which is much tastier than Hons. Their Hainan chicken is also not bad, other than that I have not tried too many other dishes.
Curry beef brisket and sweet and sour pork are very tasty!
Very good service, the Hainan Chicken is soooo good
Amazing sweet sour pork. Right crispy-ness, flavor and not oily. Overall the dish in here taste exquisite. Really loved the quality
Delicious crispy shredded beef! Ive been looking for this since I used to enjoy it regularly in New York City. They really know how to make it here! Shiok!
Excellent food quality, we tried the lobster deal with 3 dishes and everybody enjoyed it
Best Chinese cuisine in Coquitlam! Me and my family have been going here for a long time even back when it was at its old location and it is still the best in town. Sweet n Sour Pork 5/5 Hainanese Chicken 5/5 Deep Fried Salt Pepper fish 4/5 The place does get really busy during evening hours.
Above average Chinese food but way above average prices.
Good Cantonese cuisine. At reasonable price
Food is always good but a little bit pricey.
Too Expensive
Good Chicken and beef curry
Good food reasonable pricing
Great authentic Chinese food
Multiple choices
Waitresses are so mean bad attitude
The servers attitudes are so poor but they still expect more than 10% gratuity. Food quality is inconsistent.
Always good food
It is a traditional Hong Kong style cafeteria and the price is justified. the taste is good
This Deer Garden Restaurant is much more roomier than other Deer Garden locations. Maybe because this serve more items in the menu than just fish soup noodles. Anyway, there are plenty of parking at Henderson Mall so parking is not an issue here. The restaurant is spacious but when it gets crowded its very noisy. Food was very good but too bad the portion was a bit smaller than I anticipated. Service was mediocre probably because it was busy during dinner time. If service was better I would have given this location 5 stars.
One of my favorite Chinese restaurant, love the Hainan chicken,I am regular
Rating 4.5: Authentic Chinese dishes, exemplary cooking, unforgettable taste, best in Coquitlam.
This food is soooo good! It was very filling and so good! There is lots of seating room! The service is excellent! It is so quick! I totally recommend this to anyone!
Deer Garden is amazing! The flavours are wonderful and the service is great!
Good food, rude waitress, very unfriendly towards kids, very cruel to Chinese children
Good food, good price
The lobster meal is awesome. Taste, quantity and good quality. Services are good. Staffs are friendly.
I like the sweet n sour pork!! Crunchy outside but chewy inside
Its just an average Chinese eatery. Nothing to rave about.
Food was satisfactory at best and coupled with such terrible customer service, I have decided to give it a generous 2 star.
Everything was good
Food standard is good
Solid joint for Cantonese food with great price for quality
The food was average . We ate the Fujian rice noodle and the spicy tofu and beef. The rice noodle was okay, but the spicy tofu and beef wasn t even spicy. The daily soup was okay, but the hot lemon tea tasted terrible! The service was under average. They didn t smile, it feel likes that they are so angry or sad. They also speak very fast and doesn t have patients. The manager was reading the newspaper with only socks on which showed that his manners were very bad.
I love their curry beef so much They also make a great HK milk tea
