35 Marlborough St, Cornwall, ON K6H 3Z6, Canada
Cool location, next to an ice cream parlor & market. Service not as friendly as it could have been. We tried poutine with both gravies - original & dark. Tasted extremely similar, overly salted. Not an overly generous portion of cheese curds, but absolutely delicious curds (they’re St. Alberts). Wouldn’t be our first choice when there are better places nearby like Patate.
Good prices but the food is hit or miss and lately more miss. Dry burgers, poutine had very little curds and extremely salty — have also had great food with the great prices 🤷♂️
Loose Caboose, an old caboose turned into a charming chip stand, is a delightful find for food enthusiasts. This unique eatery not only boasts an inviting, nostalgic atmosphere but also serves up some of the best tacos and poutine in town. The tacos at Loose Caboose are a standout feature. Each taco is packed with flavorful ingredients, from perfectly seasoned meats to fresh, crisp vegetables. The balance of flavors and textures makes every bite a treat. Their poutine is equally impressive, with delicious fries smothered in rich, savory gravy and topped with cheese curds. The combination is both comforting and satisfying, capturing the essence of this classic Canadian dish. In summary, Loose Caboose offers a delightful fusion of tasty tacos, indulgent poutine, and a unique appearance that’s well worth a visit.
Not only does loose Caboose make amazing food and have a amazing deals. Tonight we got a burger and poutine for $10. I lost my phone between the steps and stairs and they worked quickly to help get my phone. I was so scared it was lost forever. Thank you loose caboose for the amazing service all around.
Not what it was in the 90's it was a major gathering spot and had their regulars. For the longest time a delicious hotdog with all the toppings including onion, hot pepper and of course mustard, ketchup and relish were add what you wanted... but nowadays inflation has hit hard.
This is a cool food truck that looks like a rail car, with picnic tables out front. While I didn't order anything because I was not hungry, my daughter got a poutine that she really enjoyed.
We often go here for burgers. I don’t know what they use in the patties but they are always delicious. We love that you can get any daily special after midnight. (Used to be 10 pm so take note if you weren’t aware of the change.) We usually share a poutine. Great fries. Big squeaky cheese curds and BBQ gravy that is slightly spicy(but still mild enough for someone like myself that can’t eat spicy food). They switched away from styrofoam containers and now use paper ones - which I like much better. They can get pretty busy around dinner time - so call ahead to place your order.
Great atmosphere and service, not so great food. Poutine gravy that was insanely salty not nearly enough cheese curds. It's a cute novelty place, but we won't be going back.
Great food and bonus: they are open late!
Ordered here a few times this establishment has really declined since a lot of their old seasonal staff have left.
Never an Issue always amazing prices and food.
Food was good. Good service. Weekly specials.
Only convenience I know of thats 24/7 and the caboose till 2 am is justifiably Fab ( ;)
Best place for fast cheap chip truck food! I love their specials n their fries are my favorite
Very good
Very disappointed with loose caboose. Been going there for over 30yrs and they do not have the same quality anymore. Fries and pogos always look over cooked yet the inside is under cooked. Theyve changed the gravy recently as well. A $50 order and half wasnt even cooked properly. Really wish theyd bring back the owners.
Good food and daily specials. Pogo and small fries $1.50 on Monday..
We thought this was well priced and has good portion sizes. We fed 2 adults and 2 kids for under 35$, service was a bit slow but they were quite busy. The caboose is cool, seating not great and is composed of a couple of roadside picnic tables. I had the buffalo chicken poutine, it was Monday so Pogos were 1.25$. They have daily specials which are very reasonable. Overall great!
hi i ate there for the first timne. I had the poutine. It was good only thing it was very shy on curds mostly fries and gravy yes i would go back again hope the would put more curdsd in next time
Great burgers and poutine!
Its such a shame that five stars is the limit because this place truly deserves more. The food is surprisingly (but not surprisingly) fantastic, thanks to the owners unwavering dedication to nutrition, our planet, and all things green. Their passion and love shine through in every bite. Fun fact: theyve been in the grocery business for at least 3-4 generations, a few stores, the original still on Cumberland Street, (the 100 block,) just half a block south of Second St. West, another beautiful and heartbreakingly kind next-of-kin who owns and maintains the original McMillans. Ill never forget the time shortly after my husband passed on, I was robbed most of our life savings, I felt I had no choice but to go to the store, lower my standards (I recalled their decades old sign, no store credit (I looked for it, but didnt see it); while asking the young man if he would be kind enough to let me borrow / oops: I think he knew, I could tell by his look that he was probably going to turn me down but with utmost empathy, during the brief pause, I finished my sentence, for my two cats. His eyes opened big and wide, interrupting me, CATS?!! gleefully pointing me in the right direction. With their doors open 24 hours a day, every day, I feel like Im back in Toronto, where you can visit a bank or pharmacy at 3 AM. The staff is incredible, Im thoroughly impressed with each and every one of them; they all embody the spirit of the owners, Cyndi and Dave. FYI: Cyndi was spelled like that before Cyndi Laupers name gained its fame as a given name. Despite being a small business, theyre thriving, thanks in large part to the exceptional food, the welcoming atmosphere, and the outdoor patio with its charming picnic tables and umbrellas, perfectly distanced on a large corner lot, off from the kitchen. The kitchen is a real caboose, probably circa mid-1940s, sterile and well-preserved. Its truly out of this world! Plus, its a one-stop shop for families, travelers, or the single guy out on a first date, so impressed that it wont be their last. Whether youre craving treats, meals, ice cream, or dairy products, your furry friends needs are also covered with a variety of meals and treats. If you forgot your money at home, theres access to an ATM machine inside the store. Who knows, if youve got a couple of dollars weighing you down, you might take a chance on winning $1 million from a vast array of scratch tickets or regular weekly lottery tickets. If youre visiting from out-of-town and want to be wowed, be sure to swing by 35 Marlborough Street, corner of First Street East. They DO go the extra mile (peel real potatoes, use 100% real ground beef, real cheese ... theres nothing artificial about them or their food. It may go against their own grain, they are not braggart, but rather, the kind of people who dont talk about people, but who will also feed your mind with intellectual conversation, and actively reciprocate. Wow, now they deliver at weeks end, till 2 AM. Who could want anything more! Parking: Situated on a corner lot, there are three entrance/exit spots for vehicles: two on Marlborough Street (the well-travelled 2-way street), and one on First St. East (a 1-way street). I dont know if this still applies but there is also ample parking across the road, ... conveniently there are also two doors to the building, One is an entrance and the other, an exit [I thought of parking during my first rant,, and not wanting to miss a thing, I got derailed by too many trains of thoughts,, and lost track.
Not bad, but pricey!
Food is okay. The novelty is the Caboose.
All good
Always great food. Excellent fries.
Very tasty cheeseburgers and reasonable prices! Poutine was good too.
Worst ordering experience in my life...things have really changed at the Caboose (and Cornwall in general) in the last 20 years...
Food is excellent, wish theyd package the burgers differently cause the tend to get soggy on the bottom from sitting in the paper bag.
My favourite place to get a taco burger all though when theyre busy they sometimes dont make it quite right but always still delicious and worth your buck! Highly recomnd checking it out, poutines are also superb -update: they got new cooks since the last time i was there, but still the best place for a taco burger in cornwall in my opinion
Extremely top shelf poutine, great service, honest and humble. They say the wait will be long but its not that bad. It might seem small and simple but the food speaks for itself. Check it out :)
Just went to loose caboose and ill never go back SMALL PORTIONS FOOD TOO GREASY an its a waste of money
Delicious burgers
sucks undercooked my fries burger was not cooked all way threw sorry use to be good dont know what happened but I aint waisting my money there anymore
Manager cheap. Will only allow 2 packages of ketchup.
All items on the menu are delicious and there is a special everyday like 2 pogos for $2 or 2 hotdogs for $2 good deals everyday of the week!
Great food and service, cool location as opposed to a regular chip truck. The daily specials are great.
Bacon cheeseburger slapssss Especially after a few drinks Food
I ask for napkins they gave me one for 3 people I ask if there was some I ad to go back a second time kind of sucks wen you disabled go up steps a second time with a broken kneecap
The food has gotten more expensive over the years, especially in the last few, and the service has always been pretty slow, however, the food remains good, and there is a bunch of benches and chairs around to chill at. It also closes at 2 AM, which is a great bonus, and it is connected to a 24/7 convenience store, with parking. The Caboose has some good specials sometimes.
It seems like the service is starting to slip nowadays because the owner cheaping out on staff and hiring low skill workers at cheaper prices. As per usual its just awkward staff who dont greet the customer or acknowledge people coming in for like 15 minutes. (Happened to me and a couple people a couple months ago) Small portion sizes, not really worth it.
Good poutine!
Food is awesome at the Loose Caboose
Very good food, loved the hamburger and daily deals.
Always amazing food. And I love the daily deals.
Cute little place, food was quite good. French fries were a bit over cooked but still very good. Order was mixed up a bit despite going over it a couple times
Delicious, wallet-friendly, and delightfully greasy: I love this place! It truly embodies the perfect balance of savory and affordable dining. A definite go-to for those seeking an authentic, satisfying meal without breaking the bank. Food
Best 10$ Ive spent on fast food in a long time! Got a large poutine and there was cheese and gravy till the last bite and it was delicious! (Dark gravy) Friendly service too. Food
Love the curd burger
Great fries and cool place with a real train caboose.
Fries werent crispy, browned but not fully cooked
Place is a DUMP! Bunch of dirty rats cooking the food, burger looks and tastes like rat poison.
The onion rings were excellent, the burger was ok, and a little over cooked. The all dressed hot dog has Cole slaw on it. The poutine dark gravy was too dark. So almost a burnt beef flavor. It wasnt bad, just a bit too dark.
Best food ever in Cornwall they also have plant based options for those who are vegan or vegetarian! And it s the best burger around for vegans! Food
Drove past this place on accident during a road trip and decided to stop. Fantastic poutine!
My husband are new to this site this year. This place makes the most outstanding hamburger we have ever had. The meat is fresh and juicy and we eat different contents, mine is all dressed and he loves ketchup. Both were delicious. We now make the trip there 2 to 3 times a week and sometimes we have fries, and we try other items too. I got the toasted hotdogs with the works, and they are wonderful. Come and enjoy the food.
I went to store last week for the icecrem it was awesome From now on cotton candy s my favourite flavour ..there was a girl on the frontline she was very helpful and polite ..amazing service will go back for sure
Good Food on late nights.
Friendly, fast and value for your dollar. Rare these days.
Place is good past midnight but tall skinny jason statham sucks
Great late night food open till 2am must check it out
Went there last night, no one was wearing gloves the customer service was poor I ordered 3 hotdogs all dressed one was broke and all over my deep fried pickles, and the Coney fries did not taste normal last time I will be going there chef on a bun is my place of interest
I asked for ketchup and relish never got the relish i got mustard and they put halp cup of mustard and halp cup of ketchup not good at all 2 of 10 not good at all very gresse as well tumbs down.
Always a great place to grab a quick bite or a family worth of food if your not in the mood to cook. The daily specials make it easy to plan your meals. Frysday fries for the win.
Good food and amazing prices. Stays open pretty late and stuff are very friendly and easy to deal with. Great selection.
Tightest in town
Worst poutine I ever had fries were almost burnt gravy was cold. Never again
Parking: Its a nice size parking lot off of first street east Kid-friendliness: They have kids meals
Not so friendly menu Little bit restricted ordering counter Food pricey for portions but what isnt nowadays
Absolutely love their food!! The hamburgers are so fresh and juicy!! All the food I ve ordered from there is amazing and the prices are really good as well. The staff are extremely friendly too!
Curd burger.. all i have to say! Open till 2 am
Very rude.
Seems it depends whom is cooking that the curd burger is made different. The first time was the best but each time now it is different. I need to find out when that certain cook is working lol
Good food
Fries are always mushy and undercooked even when I ask for well done every time.
Really amazing poutine. Probably the best Ive ever had. Always go with the BBQ gravy, tastes just like Swiss Chalet dipping sauce
The sweet potato fries and the taco dogs are the best
Always a daily deal to save money and please the appetite.
Had the poutine and breaded pickles! Both were delicious. There was one guy working alone on the night I went (short staffed), so I waited a while expectedly, but his service was still great. Food : 5/5
By far the best fies I ve had in a long time .
Awesome burgers if you re looking for a quick pit stop its worth the short drive off the hwy!
One of the best burgers I ever had. Thank you.
Great burger and great to find a local food establishment open in the late evening during these times of covid lock downs that isnt a giant franchise chain.
awesome service! great food!
Good food. Had a couple of my fries that werent cooked. A large wasp got into my poutine so I couldnt finish
The wife and I went for a bike ride and we stopped in at the loose caboose for a afternoon snack the pogos were just great made hour afternoon
Love the burgers!!!
Hands down best burger Ive had in years.
Great food great workers, I just hate the line/wait, ...andbthe late night customers lol but not the restaurants fault!
Good food, covid regulations well done.
Awesome food
As usual this small hide away just south of 2nd is as good as ever. The nightly specials allow for stretching a budget. Not ideal for folks that have issues with stairs as a few to navigate both in ordering and getting the order when ready. Highly recommend a visit though.
Fresh tasty food and friendly service. I love the daily deals, good prices.
They dont use gloves and dont know how to make food properly watched the guy have his hands all over my hotdogs and it wasnt even made right no condiments and the hotdog looked like roadkill
They had a pogo
Went and got two hamburgers with just bacon and ketchup..small fry and small gravy and it cost $25 this is ridiculous will definitely not going back
Good experience!
Just ordered the Philly cheese burger..and fries Awesomeness at its best .great food fairly priced...and it hit the spot... definitely be there this summer..good going guys.
Love it
Great place and arent afraid to try to put something new on their menu!
Taco salad is amazing
Dave and Cindy look after all their clientele very well.
This place has taken a nose dive. French fries are ALWAYS under cooked. Prices have jumped and make sure you give yourself enough time, this isnt going to be quick.
Great Place To Eat. The Menu Has More Items Than When I Went There Before.
Good fast food made to order. Great prices and daily specials.
Was great but fries a.little over done
Quality customer service and good food
Great food, good prices
The caboose has the best truck food in Cornwall and the surrounding area . My childhood friends own it and the store . The whole compound is amazing . The store portion has everything you could ever want . Ice cream by the scoop , lotto stuff, cigs , an array of everyday household stuff. The Caboose itself has some of the best food in town (not just within the food truck business either) the best !!! The menu is vast and the service impeccable. The also offer a phone in / take out service . To someone whos never been , the wait for food may seem a bit daunting but let me assure you that any reservations you had due to the wait time will vanish as soon as you take your first bite of a curd burger or WORLD CLASS poutine ! I give this restaurant a EASY 5 STARS .
Awesome food
Everybody was telling me how great the fries were in the food was there. Greasiest fries Ive ever had and a basic boiled hot dog on a non toasted bun with mustard and relish whoop de doo. The first and last visit I make there.
Do not have good customer service and do not know how to talk to their customers I went there and one of the workers were on their high horse I would not recommend this place to anybody
Always a pleasure going there.
Food is amazing! Burgers taste very fresh! Especially their poutines! Their service is great. There is plenty of parking since its right next to a variety store. They are open every weekday 11 am till 2 am including Saturday. Excluding Sunday Monday open till midnight. Great for late night cravings. Prices are affordable. Always looking forward to going back!
Totally awesome fries
See, Id like to give it something more than a 3 star rating but theyre not consistent enough for me. There would be times Id order a portion and have it done properly and other times I had to look twice to see if my poutine was actually a fry because they cheaped out. More than once theyve cheaped out. The deep fried pickles at very soft compared to what else is out there. Burgers are also messy but taste pretty good Ill admit
Not bad
Love the food friendly staff and a wonderful area to hangout
Ordered a pogo and small fry, was told no ice tea, opted for water. 20 mins later no food? I checked in and was told he forgot order. Would be another 5 mins. Finally got my order now I have no time to eat. Whats more I asked for my bottle of water. He had to go into nacmillsns to get it. I gave up waiting I was already late! He gave me a med fry for the troubles. Too bad I had no time to eat them.. Will not go back. Horrible service!
Here every night
First time there for me... husband has been here so many times. I loved it. The poutine was awesome. We will be back. But can I drive the caboose home next time please?
Great Food...Great Service......Great prices....Fast Service too...
Nice people, good food.
Found a long hair in my fries like it was deep-fried and attached to other fries ... Yucky
Amazing food and amazing service the only thing sad about it now is I change my whole nutrition and I cant est anything there anymore however my son loves their poutine
Best poutine in Cornwall.
Really liked the Poutine and Mozzarella sticks. Chicken burger was nice but hope there was an option for spicy chicken or spicy sauce. I will recommend this place for sure.
Good people, great service!
Amazing daily deals....burgers are the bomb...unfortunately not a fan of how they make their fries
Loved their burgers and poutine! Will return for more. It would be really good if they had a trashcan with covers as there were wasps and bees flying around us and the food as we were eating. We left halfway because of this.
Food is great and lots of specials
Good place to get a quick comfort food bite to eat
We were in Cornwall to pick something up and had lunch here. We really enjoyed the poutine and the burger! If we ever go back to cornwall we will be filling our bellies here
Can honestly say i love this place Cheap, yummy and affordable
when ordering our hot dogs i ask for the weiners to be cooked very well yet i always get a cool half way cooked hot dog.. Its the bun & topings that keep me coming back. I am So glad ur in service after all these yrs!
They charge to much for hot dogs, paid $5.00 for 2!
quality control issues
Good food. Great place for poutine. I like the bbq sauce style gravy and my wife likes the dark gravy. Cool option to have both types. They are also open all year round witch is really convenient when looking for a fast bite at lunch.
Inexpensive, excellent food! Their daily specials are always a good deal.
Delicious! Had the beef tacos and taco salad. Mmmmm tacos
Tasty
Was there last night and tryed the beef tocos and mozzarella sticks and it was amazing. Ill be comeing back for sure.
Service was very friendly. Food was good as well. Price was great.
You want authentic Chip Truck food? Thisbis the place! Open late and pet friendly in the summer.
It was ok but the fries where cooked to much.
