Top notch Chinese food. Fried rice, ginger beef and sweet / sour pork were all on par with the best I ve had in Vancouver. Although takeout was a little slow, surprised the rating is not higher.

We were travelling through Courtenay and stopped in for dinner, the staff were friendly and the food was great, my husband is a picky eater but he definitely enjoyed his meal! We will be back in the future. :)

The posted hours are so off. Everytime it says they are open and I go there for food before closing, they are dark and empty. Nobody updates the information posted. Foods good when you can get it though.

I usually get take out and let me tell you one thing....... YUM! Delicious food, generous portions, and speedy service. Top Chinese food in the Valley for sure. Delightful, hard-working people. I only get food from here. Parking: Lots of parking available. Wheelchair accessibility: Parking directly out front. There is a curb. Sidewalk access though. Parking lot on the side.

After trying a newly opened Chinese restaurant in town , my family and I would like to apologize to the staff of golden carriage for going elsewhere and trying to find something better we now know there is no better when it comes to Chinese food in the valley than golden carriage , good food , friendly staff!- love the delivery driver , we have long conversations when he arrives, don t waste your time elsewhere people. This is the place!

This is hands down the worst Chinese food we ve ever had. After a few bites we all agreed it had to hit the bin. We tried 5 different dishes and all of them were terrible! Very disappointing.

First of all speedy service, ordered and it arrived in half an hour yay (told on phone it was to be an hour wait), next food was hot when it arrived, third the food was GREAT everything we ordered accounted for highly recommed ;)

Consistently hot, fresh, and delicious. The staff are friendly, and the restaurant clean. I love the BBQ pork fried rice, and the boneless honey garlic pork. You will not be disappointed. I love going to the sit-in buffet too. Best Chinese in the Valley, and no one even comes close.

Great War wonton

First time trying from them. Order 2 dishes and one soup. The canton chow mein and soup was salty, the beef chow fun was not beef chow fun was beef chow mein. And the soup and little black stuff in as well in noodles too.

As a first nations. I did not feel comfortable in any restaurants or hotels in Courtney. And Im a big guy and takes a lot to make me uncomfortable.

I hate bad reviews but can t honestly say much more than the service was friendly and the place was clean. Food unfortunately was mediocre at best.

Old school, nostalgic family run restaurant that offers the popular Chop Suey Nation fare (Southern Chinese cuisine adapted to suit the tastes of small towns and not found in traditional restaurants), and also authentic favourites many CBCs will remember from their childhoods. Food - The portions are absolutely massive for how they are priced. We had the Singapore curry vermicelli and asked them to kick the spice up a few notches. It did not disappoint - springy noodles with a bit of crispiness, clocked full of eggs and shrimp, and just the right level of curry for us. Also had the mapo tofu, which leaned more heavily towards the numbing ma than the hot la and had a good amount of chilli oil, but could have had bean taste. Lastly we had wonton just because who doesn t love wonton, and ordered a small bowl. The bowl that came was not small. We asked if there was a mistake, and nope their small is really just that large. The wontons were plump and juicy, and the skins were thin and smooth. Surprisingly it came with some barbeque pork and broccoli. Service - The dishes came out quickly, and service was attentive and friendly. We appreciated that they looked over every so often to make sure we had enough water for the tea, but otherwise left us to our meal. After we had finished they came over to chat, and shared a bit of history and asked about ours.

Heard good things about thos place so we took a shot. BLAH. The wonton soup broth was good, and the noodles were (just) ok BUT the amount of cabbage in the food was unreal!! At least half the soup was cabbage! For $14?! It wasnt even Chinese cabbage, it was just plain old stinky cheap cabbage! The veggies we ordered was the same, half of it was cabbage and past its prime brocolli too. Yuk. Not one mushroom either. The fried rice was salty but ok and the lemon chicken was super thin way over battered and greasy (double fried?) The lemon sauce was good tho.prob the best thing g about the whole $79 order. Finally the egg rolls we ordered were just actually larger spring rolls. Very greasy and had 5 spice (YUK!!) Cinnamon doesnt belong in Chinese food!

This place used to be the best in town but they have sadly gone downhill. The deep fried spicy squid was soaking in oil and so soggy that the coating had fallen off. The fried rice had what appears to be cheap frozen mixed veg. Just down right disappointed.

The beef and broccoli is my favorite! They use the best wine to cook the beef and the flavors are so good. This restaurant is tops and done perfectly. Truly a gift for the people here to have access to this food culture. The expertise in this kitchen should be respected. Hands up to you! Thank you for making dinner special on occasions!

We stopped in for the buffet but it wasnt available so we ordered the Squids and Prawns Hotpot and it was very good with an excellent ginger broth. Along with an order of vegetable chow main it was more than e ough for the two of us.

Best Wor Won Ton in the valley.

I ve only ordered from the golden carriage once, so many they were just not having a great night, but even so, I won t be ordering from them again. Order: - deep fried chicken wings - create your own 5 item combo (sweet and sour pork, bbq pork fried rice, deep fried won tons, breaded almond chicken, spring roll). Once I opened my order I realized I forgot to order anything with veggies Pros: - portion sizes - fair prices - packaging was well organized - they gave extra sauces - deep fried won tons were excellent Neutral: - the spring roll was a standard spring roll - the chicken wings were properly cooked. I don t like batter on my wings, but that s just a personal preference Cons: - the breaded almond chicken didn t have any ground almond on it, but more importantly the batter was too thick so it ended up undercooked and gross - the fried rice was really dry and had no flavour to it - the sweet and sour pork wasn t sweet and sour it was like a weird combo of sweet and sour and honey garlic which was really awful

The food and portions are amazing!! At another place in town they charge $30 for 2 small bowls of wonton soup that are supposed to be a large. The golden carriage portions are very generous and ohhh so yummy. It s worth the money and I ll never order from anywhere else in town ever again. I have been eating here for over 15 years! Good job guys! Love love love

Perfect price, good quality foods

Tastes like literally nothing. Needs more MSG. Or SOMETHING! Anything, its like drinking a cup of rice grains and then chugging a pint of water. A little hard to get down and leaves you feeling bloated. Edit: Probably tastes good if youre old and cant taste anything anyways.

We usually go for the buffet, which is always tasty, good variety, and the staff are wonderfully warm and friendly. Tonight we got take out. It was amazing! The food was delicious, fresh, and flavourful, and the portions were incredibly generous. Highlights: Wor Wonton Soup, Honey Lemon Chicken, Veggie Tofu Ginger Hot Pot, Prawns w/Mushroom. Yummy!!

The takeout was very average.

I ordered my food online at 9:00 for pick-up at 9:45 (15mins before they close). They were already close at 9:35 when I got there. That was a waste of gas.

Always love ordering from here. The staff are always super friendly, and I have seldom ever had problems with my orders. They are consistently efficient, on time, and really a joy to interact with. The girl who regularly takes the orders by the phone is always helpful, sweet and friendly. I highly recommend their delicious food and the service that comes with it.

Have not eaten here in a while, but food was very good last time we had their takeout. Main reason we go elsewhere now is because we live in Comox and there are other options closer. Used to order from here several years ago when we lived down the street, I imagine the food is just as good as it was back then. Certainly recommend you give them a try!

Although they have some of the best chinese food in town... they are very poor at organizing their kitchen and orders. Every time I order from them (delivery or pick up) I end up waiting at least an extra half an hour to 45 minutes. So as long as you arent hungry you might be fine. And they do not have the space available for waiting, I feel like no matter where I sit or stand that I am in the way or watching people eat.

Worst chinese food I have had in a long time, tastes like they are using rancid oil in their deep fryers & using the same fryer for everything, prawns were tough & gritty, almond chicken with NO almonds, rubbery chow mein & to top it off it took an hour & 20 mins for the delivery.........will NOT ever order from them again, VERY DISAPPOINTING & EXPENSIVE

Codiner and I had our weekly craving for Chinese food and decided to to check reviews for local restaurants. We were extra hungry, so went the buffet route, and chose Golden Carriage. We werent disappointed. We arrived just before the buffet was served and found the seats half filled. The server was friendly and helpful. There were a sufficient number of dishes provided to fulfill most peoples tastes. Also, the food was replenished on a regular basis.

Wont comment on the in-restaurant food as I had my food delivered. Service guy who delivered the food was nice and courteous, but I was not very impressed with the food. Very bland, lacked flavor.

Dont pay for your order until it arrives or you will be waiting 1 hour plus, after the order is supposed to be ready.They always get you to pay as soon as you walk in the door but you can tell them youd like to pay when the order is ready.I dont tip anymore because of the continuous wait.

Been here for lunch a couple of times and its not expensive at $10.50 or so. The buffet is your basic choices of noodles and deep fried meats. Kind of place you can take a book to and read in a quiet environment away from work.

I usually dont mind if places have bad service, after all Im there for the food. However this place had bad food and service. Dont go for the buffet unless you were born in a barn and have no idea what good hot food is supposed to taste like. Otherwise, enjoy!

The service was terrible. 3 staff on and I had to get my own placemats and cutlery from another table. Food was okay. Will we go back, probably not.

A good place for buffet Chinese food but for some reason the noodles usually taste burned.

Impressively mediocre food. Minus another star for the musty dungeon atmosphere. Like traveling back in time to an old persons lucid dream of the Orient. It took 40 minutes to receive a 6 pound congealed slab of egg foo young. The buffet sent me in to a deep depression that I havent recovered from since. You call that dessert? The icing on the cake tasted like melted birthday candles. Dont take someone here if youve ever been outside of the North island after 1999. Otherwise put on some backstreet boys and enjoy.

Good quality north American style Chinese food.

We have enjoyed in the past but last night it wasnt very good. Messed up two dishes and the timing for dishes they dropped the ball. We were done the first dish before the second and the same for the third which they completely sent the wrong dish. Didnt recieve the rice we ordered as well. Understaffed in my opinion. Hopefully it does the happen again otherwise we will have to look for an option.
