Always order takeout so I cant comment on atmosphere.

Best ginger fried beef I have ever had!!

Very good food, service was prompt but food was slow to deliver.

Food was bland and overcooked. I asked for extra soya sauce in my fried rice when i ordered, and she handed me a bottle of soya sauce she didnt know the brand of in a blank bottle and the rice had no soya sauce in it and wasent crispy or very fried at all and so bland and got deep-fried shrimp that was almost 20 bucks before tip and the batter was completely dry with no moisture and the shrimp were tiny and dried out the restaurant was rather empty other then 1 table so its not like the kitchen was super slammed or busy

The rice and ingredients are not fresh. There is a strange musty smell in the food. I have never seen such bad Chinese food.

A very beautiful old fashioned looking Chinese restaurant with extremely good customer service. My favorite dish is the Chicken Chow Mein and Sweet And Sour Pork combo.

Lovely staff and beautiful interior design, the likes of which you just dont see often anymore. Good food and reasonably priced. 10/10

This place is amazing. I was looking for traditional Chinese food. The szechuan menu was fantastic. The staff is so nice and had a great time talking to the owner. It was like eating at my grandmothers house. Lol Show love and support to this longtime local business.

Ordered egg fu young for take away. Got home and ground a pot of slop. Old bean sprouts mixed with egg and scambled. Went back and had yelling match nut hot money back . These are new people instead of the good ones DONT GO NEAR THIS HOLE !!!

Great little spot! We re visiting from Vancouver and we were pleasantly surprised to find this place. The food was very good and the service was great. Wonderful home style cooking, similar to my grandma s dishes. Would definitely visit again!

Excellent food and fun, friendly service. The food is NOT the same as other Chinese restaurants. This food is original (old fashioned) style that my parents treated my siblings and I to back in the 60s and 70s. I LOVE it! and so does my family. Vegetarian options: Great choices of vegetarian dishes Dietary restrictions: Diabetic options available Parking: Depending on the time of day you arrive, the parking can get congested due to the restaurants central downtown location.

Great food, good service! Have only ever ordered for delivery, happy with the taste and quality of the food (not overly salty which is nice). The only downside is that they dont seem to have menus so you have to ask if/what dishes they have to order. But its not a big issue.

Hmm. Went to pick up order. Was surprised to see the restaurant was empty. I thought the cashier said they were opening in August. Had an old smell too. Ordered a number of dishes. The ginger beef and kung pao chicken were about 3.5-4 out of 5. The others were just ok. The ingredients were fresh, just didn t appeal to me. I wouldn t return.

the outside of this place is scary i feel like its a secret black market i never see anyone enter there and it looks really old and gross i will never go eat there again.

Full restaurant walk out due to lack of food preparation. Waited on our food for over an hour, when we asked where our food was at the staff told us Not even close. yea sorry bye. Never again. The couple behind us didnt get service and someone else who had come in to pick up their delivery, that was ordered around 5, waited until 7 to get their order. So ridiculous it felt passive aggressive. There mustve been 5 tables with absolutely no food.

Called for delivery. Lady was very rude and said they are cash only and literally groaned on the phone when I said I didn t have cash. Then she hung up. Bad service usually means bad food. Won t be calling again.

I called 5 minutes before closing and they were kind enough to take a take out order for us. To add to their kindness, they waited for our arrival which was 30 minutes after closing because we were in the middle of checking into our hotel. To finish, the food was great and portions generous.

I love Chinese food, and I personally find this place as the best in the valley. I have ordered from there about 5 times and I like to try to change my order up for variety. Everything has been fresh and very flavourful. The staff is also extremely friendly, the kind of people who remember your name and ask about your family. A gem.

Mandarin Village has delicious, fresh food made to order. The staff were super friendly, and I really enjoyed the decor. I have always loved exploring restaurants that have been established in towns for many years, and this one did not disappoint. I plan to go back and try as much of the menu as I can.

Absolutely horrible. We Walked in and the lights were off. Plus the server was in jeans and t-shirt, no one else in sight, could not even tell it was open, no service to our table at all and we sat there for 10 minutes, no water or anything, I used the washroom and it was absolutely disgusting, dirty paper towel dispenser didnt even work. We decided to leave due to lack of service and then were commented by staff that we just came in to use the bathroom. Do not recommend.

Atmosphere is oretty musky and old but thw food was fine, nothing to write home about. The staff is good. Would recommend checking out this place at least once.

We have been there twice. Enjoyed it both times. The batter they use for eggrolls is very light. Reminds me of flakey pie crust. Some might like it this way. Im not one of them. Still... Very good

Doesnt look like much but its hand down the best Chinese food in Courtenay! The owners are super sweet and nice and the food is delicious! Definitely recommend this place.

As a very large group with children, we were welcomed. As each round of food came out, the kids wanted more because the food was THAT delicious.

Best Chinese meal ever! The food is always tasty and never greasy. Attentive service when dining in and servers are friendly. Very reasonable prices and plentiful portions. You owe it to yourself to try this restaurant out, then make your own decision. You wont regret it.

We have eaten here for the 23 years we have lived in the Valley. The family that runs the place are wonderful and it is the best authentic Chinese food in the Valley. Not trendy at all if you are looking for that. But the food has always been great, both delivered and in the restaurant. I m surprised at the negative comments here based on how crowded the place isn t at times. It s not a place to see and be seen for sure but we have always enjoyed the experience. They are the best restaurant we have been to when it comes to welcoming kids as well. Most importantly, the food portions are generous and tasty.

Generous portions and fresh ingredients. The owner was very friendly and happy to chat with us while our food was being prepared. Highly recommend the crispy ginger beef.

Food was good, its a family business so expect family service.

Was kinda empty the afternoon I went in, but food was great and portions were great too.

Food is extremely over priced for the tiny portions you get, food tastes like the container it was delivered in, charged me way too much for delivery, and the chow mien was disgusting. The only thing that wasnt disgusting was the deep fried wantons, and the only way you can screw up deep fried wantons is if you didnt deep fry them. One star.

Only place in the Valley I will eat Chinese food. People saying its not good probably love QF chinese. Recommend War Won Ton and the Kung Pao Chicken.

First time here for dim sum. Food was really quite awful. Anything fried tasted like the oil has been expired for a year at least. The steamed versions of the rest of the dimsum was mediocre at best. The sticky rice was bland... & not sticky at all. The wonton soup, pork dumplings, Har Gow and Shao Mai were tiny and also bland. Even the Chinese tea was not good. Only the bbq pork bun had any flavour. Really disappointed. Only reason we gave 2* instead of 1* was because the Chinese lady was super sweet and friendly.

Good place, good location, good prices, good food. It looks sketchy from the outside but go in, youll be pleased.

We just ordered from Mandarin while visiting Courtenay. The food was great quality and tasted fresh and delicious. The delivery was fast and the driver was very pleasant. We thought they had forgot the sweet and sour sauce and just as we were about to eat there was a knock on the door and they had come back realizing theyd left it out and even brought a little desert for us. Amazing service we will definitely be back for more.

Nice people who own and work there but no one ever goes here. Went in and almost felt like walking out because it was too awkward to just come in and eat being the only customer. Food was below average but pretended it was good because the server was standing just watching me eat hahahaha...kinda awkward but he was a nice guy. Wont be coming back but I wish them the best!
