A touch of Greece located in and industrial area of Courtenay, owned and operated by locals since 1999. We offer a warm welcome, great homemade gyros with tzatziki sauce, donairs with Canadian east coast sweet sauce, plus a few more Greek delights. We have take out, drive thru, a kids menu and kids play area, a patio and tables and a bar seating where you can watch us carve the beef and lamb off the rotating rotisserie and prepare your mouth water gyros or donair right in front of you. We make all the sauces, spanikopita, baklava and hommus in house from scratch. We offer our customers a loyalty gyros\donair stamp card, also offer delivery so you can enjoy gyros at home. A GYROS IN YOUR HAND BECOMES A YUMMY IN YOUR TUMMY. 250-338-2299
I’m still looking for a Donair that is exceptional. I have moved to island three years ago and still haven’t found a decent donair. This place smelled good and had great reviews, but the tenderness and the spiciness of the meat was extremely lacking.
Terrible food and poor hygiene practices. Owner is unbelievably rude if you have your phone out. Sorry, but I decide what I'm going to do when I eat, not you. There's more atmosphere in a cardboard box. Fool me once, never again.
The food here is not good. The inside of the restaurant is not welcoming feeling and doesn't smell good. The person working the counter (owner I think) was rude. This is by far the most bland food in town at very high prices for the portions. Would not recommend to anyone. Also gave me the poops badly
Super friendly owner she was so nice and helpful with the kids. The food was delicious, and they had a kids menu.
This place is amazing! The best gyro I’ve had in a very long time. They have great rice wraps if you are gluten free so you can still enjoy this authentic Greek food without feeling like you are missing out. We went through the drive-thru and the convenience was awesome! They even gave our dogs some left over meat. This place is a new favourite…for us AND the dogs!
Have been going here for years, Whenever we go to the island. Went again recently after having not been in 4+ years. The Donair is still the best I have had. You can not get this authenticity except to maybe go to Nova Scotia. 😆 We felt completely at home, as our food was being made we were engaged with great conversations. More people arrived and it was as if a little family. everyone chatting and laughing it was a great atmosphere. Thank you for a great lunch and look forward to going again, with our next stop on the island.
The best Greek food in the comox valley, hands down. The food is spectacular - the tzatziki and hummus are amazing, and you get generous portions with lots of fresh veggies. Atmosphere is cozy with a wood stove for ambience and colourful, original decor. The owner and staff are personable and attentive, and the business is very community minded. They even have bulk take home options so you can construct a meal at home or when camping, and seniors meals for lighter appetites.
Family had been wanting to try Yummies and Gyros so we stopped in. Service was quick, portions were generous and we snagged the only outside table- which was nice. Enjoyed ourselves!
Best place to eat....I forgot my wallet and they said pay next time.... We eat here all the time ... Happy Christmas and Happy New years....
Absolutely the Best in the West!!!
Amazing hidden little gem. Recommend!
Delicious local Donairs and Gyros. These have been a favorite of mine for a long time, and the service is always very friendly.
Great spot in Comox, with super friendly staff and a very homey feel.
My top place to eat while visiting Courtney/Comox. Highly recommend Food
Great local place. Was very surprised and happy with the food and service.
Always friendly service and great gyros!
Just like that! Ive become a Regular Customer Food
UPDATE EDIT: both of my daughters now are throwing up- classic food poison symptoms! ORIGINAL: First experience here, ordered through uber- and I think it may be the last Ordered the falafel gyro and falafel kids meal -- the pita wasnt fresh, stale and not warmed. The falafel had almost zero flavor and also was cold... Cold... Ive never heard of cold gyro. The produce was fresh enough but that doesnt help the entire meal which I cant even eat, its SO GROSS! My daughter who IS eating it... Stated the food was bland. And she is little... Little kids typically like bland food.
This was the best meal I ve had in my life. I want this to be my last meal on death row.
We stopped for a quick lunch on Saturday with only one staff member trying to keep up. Food was OK but we probably won t return given other available lunch options.
I have never had a bad Gyro from here but today changed my mind ; - Flavorless meat - No Taziki sauce when I asked for half, no sauce on either my Gyro or my wifes Donnair - Giant CHUNKS of onion with 0 flavor - Wrapped in Hot Dog wrappers - Some kind of sauce or grease in the bottom of the Pita bag - FLAVORLESS MEAT !!!!! TOTAL DISSAPPOINTMENT, NEVER ORDERING FROM HERE AGAIN !!!!!
So yummy!!! Way healthier than most fast food! Fresh, quality ingredients!
Place and customer service was good. But food taste was average and it was soo pricey, no worth. I will not recommend to visit this place.
Always a great experience. Love tge beef & lamb gyros! Yum!
Always love hitting the drive thru for a chicken donair! So yummy and the service is always lovely and quick!
Curious why this place has 4 stars when it is genuinely one of the worst restaurants Ive ever been to. I am not a picky eater either and I smoke a lot of grass so things generally taste good even when lower quality. The meat here is VERY underseasoned compared to any other donair/gyro place Ive been to (and the socially awkward owner WILL give you an unwanted / over the top lecture on the difference between the two). Its interior is very outdated, and the place is never EVER busy and now I know why. The onions were very clearly cut many days prior and stored in a metal container, as they just tasted like bitter steel. The only redeeming qualities were the tatziki sauce and the baklava (which I showed interest in multiple times but the owner kept trying to sell me the cheesecake instead which I was clearly uninterested in). Just an overall awkward experience from the owner and the food isnt good, coming from someone who has lived in much larger cities with many MANY more shawarma places. UPDATE: Upon the owners response, my opinion hasnt changed, nor would anyone who had the experience I had say it to her face as she has said in her initial response (just another example of the awkwardness, rather than taking the criticism with stride its just like any kitchen nightmares episode my food is great everyone here loves it come say that to my face). I recommend people who want genuinely good food and a good experience stay away from here. And if the onions arent stored in metal then thats even more concerning why they tasted that way.
So good, I think Ive tried every gyro/donair spot on the island and nowhere is as good as here! Really fresh veggies and quality beef and lamb. A big thick fluffy pita wrap - and none of those thin strips of microwaved beef Im used to! I havent had a gyros this good since I lived in vancouver. Ill be sure to stop by again so the family can give it a try too. Thanks for such a satisfying lunch, it makes me happy I live in Courtenay!
Good
gross
best gyros ever. I miss this place. I would drive all the way back for one..... but Im lazy so no.
Just picked up 4 lamb & beef gyros and they were very fresh tasting. Good serving size, just make sure to get napkins, youll need them Will be back again
Great thanks
Sweet lady, great Donairs. One of those surprise locations
My favourite local establishment for donair & gyros! Food is always tasty and consistent. Definitely a must-try.
Great prices, great food, great service. What more is there to say?
Lovely little hole in the wall place! Lots of parking, great food!
server very personable. food& service was great. would go again Parking: Great ! Wheelchair accessibility: good access
Great place, great food and great people!
Love this place. Been coming here for years and wouldn t go anywhere else for traditional Greek gyros.. thanks for being a great part of the community!!
I literally drive from south Nanaimo up to Courtney just to have lunch at Yummies. Have for the last few years now when I can. The staff are warm, fun and prompt, the food is utterly delicious.
As I entered the establishment and in no less than 20 seconds the owner hit me over the head with a metal bat and set me on fire
Always bring my friends here love it!
I have to agree with some of the pervious reviews for a couple reasons prices are high for what u get 20$ for a single double meat gyro is a bit ridiculous considering once finished was still left feeling hungry its also pretty messy a bit soggy on the wrap and felt its a bit small in portion mixed feeling about weather or not to return for a 3rd time.
Disappointeded the food was not home made wraps, Sauce tasted out of a jar Bring cash or debit. No credit card payments allowed. Food was okay not deliciousness we would visit again.
Food was delicious, friendly staff. Highly recommend
The owner is lovely but works at here own pace. I used to think that her gyros and donairs were excellent but the last time I was in iwas very disappointed. Dont get me wrong I enjoyed my meal but it used to be amazing and now very pedestrian. The protein seemed to be of lesser quality and sauces had less punch.
So so place. There are better options in the valley. Owner is pretty grumpy most of the time, huge staff turnover says it all.
Excellent food. Really good prices. Drive through is convenient. Courtney is a more appealing visit thanks to the great food here. Keep it up!
Great place! Great food! Great atmosphere! Amazing owners with a long history there. Locally owned and such big supporters of the community. I dont know how restaurants in the area survive with this place. Such good food, priced right and they have a drive thru. Why would anyone go get a greasy burger when you have this option. Kid-friendliness: Fun friendly owners in a clean environment Wheelchair accessibility: easily assessable ramp
Delicious gyros
Good
Really nice vibe, lunch very reasonably priced, real healthy ,fresh vegetables absolutely tasty. Owner gave me a nice hug
Wonderful owner and great food!
I have been coming here for 12 years, it never disappoints. I always forget to get a picture because Im too busy inhaling the delicious food!
Very friendly staff.
Keyword SEASONING. Very bland and by far the worst donairs / gyros I have ever tasted. Reading the past reviews the owner seems to not accept this because hes been in business for 22 years . Well so has McDonalds . I dont understand how such bland food could have any good reviews. I have nothing to gain by writing this and have nothing against this place . This also isnt my first gyro as Im Greek and have had thousands in my life time . Sorry but taste your own food and be better . Better yet try another restaurant in Nanaimo and compare .
These gyros are amazing !!! Beef n lamb is the best one !!!
Great food, great service, eat here whenever Im in town.
Absolutely the best easy going people many options to add to your gyros or donair must try in the Valley!
So fresh. Nice people as well.
I his place has been around the valley forever! Get yourself a Donair or a Gyro today!
Pretty solid place for a quick lunch.
I will never understand how this place is rated so highly. Midgrade food quality, the prices are unusually high for the amount and presentation($1.50 extra for hummus ), and above all else, this is the most white washed restaurant Ive ever experienced in my life. Not a single Greek individual in sight, owned and operated by a white woman(though she seemed nice). Zero authenticity
So yummy!! And a very nice surprise she s celiac friendly. Thank you for lunch today translucent looks good on you We very much enjoyed the donairs and your fun personality.
Given the wrong meat but we were already halfway home and werent wasting the gas. The kids combo says veggies, just lettuce? Chicken very bland.Very underwhelming.
Food Review: 1X chicken and 1x beef/lamb. Essentially what you receive are two large taco style pita wraps, in parchment paper and then wrapped in tinfoil. I think the biggest overall issue here stems right from the beginning: the style of delivery. There is no wrap whatsoever, and all the ingredients and sauce constantly fall out of the top, front and back. The tomatoes and beef/lamb are cut much too large and the chicken and beef/lamb were underwhelming. The chicken is particularly disappointing. When I think Greek chicken I think olive oil marinated chicken oozing with flavour, spice, and lemon. Unfortunately here we have dry, tasteless, pulled chicken. I don t mean to be harsh or critical but this is very disappointing food. Having moved here from Vancouver this town is missing a Shawarma place desperately but unfortunately - Yummies & Gyros doesn t fit the bill. I recognize that this is Greek, and not Lebanese, Turkish, or Iranian, but at the end of the day, I just want a good chicken wrap. I won t be back
Been going here for 12 years great food. Thanks for youre hard work
Best food and experience Ive had in a while. Amazing customer service and great with kids. Look forward to going back soon.
Meat is cooked authentic on a vertical spit, and a to-go window for those rushed days!! Beef & lamb gyro, add hot sauce and sweet sauce together and ooooooohhh myyyy goooodness. So convenient, good for your soul food.
best greek food i ve had in a loooong time so fresh and full of flavour!! you ll won t be disappointed. the owner is awesome and service is always fast and pleasant! thank you <3
Gross. The donair was wet? Super gross. All the meat was cold. Super gross. Never coming back
We are from Campbell River and come to Courtenay often, we wanted to change up our lunch options and Im so glad we gave Yummies a try! The portions were incredibly generous, we were shocked by the amount for the prices. I wish we took a photo, but dove right in. Staff was super friendly, will absolutely be back.
Really good food. Fair pricing, large portions. I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back. Drive-thu is really nice as well.
Lots of napkins
Always amazing food. If you cant decide what to eat. Highly reccomend.
Nice and fresh. Great sauces !
Best Donairs on the Island! Highly recommend, so delicious and never disappointing. Bring your appetite as portions are generous, but reasonably priced. Support Local!
I couldnt ask for a better place to eat a donair. My absolute favourite place to eat when Im traveling through Courtney for the past 10 years. If i lived in Courtney Id eat there 2 or 3 times a week. I honestly dont even know the prices because i dont care, I have never been left without being completely satisfied and happy.
Wonderful little family restaurant.
Great tasting Gyros, with fresh ingredents. Made while you watch.
Gyros were made like a sandwich, the filapel was sour and the pita bread was doughy.
Great beef Donair! Recommend
So delicious!!! The lady that runs this is really nice and the service is top-notch. Did I mention delicious? Also locally owned small business - the heart of our community.
Excellent food! Ordered a bunch for a retirement celebration at work and everyone was so pleased with their meals! Thank you so much!!
Good food and service. Are there a few times.
The decor is cute. As for the food, you mostly get what you pay for. Its pretty cheap, so you get the same kind of ingredients. The meats and tzatziki could both use more attention in the seasoning and flavouring department. Id prefer if the Greek salad dressing was the classic olive oil, lemon juice and oregano with Kalamata instead of canned black olives and pre-fab Renées dressing. $1.50 is pretty steep for a small amount of crumbled feta, I was expecting a pretty thick slice of feta for that price. Edit: Knocked down another star for the owners poor attitude towards an unfavourable review. Instead of wanting to address the concerns and tweak a few things, they decided to have a childish response. Unprofessional.
Hands down best donairs and gyros In the valley
Bro and I always enjoy going there for lunch when he is up!
Katherine was kind and friendly. Great food.
First time to try the restaurant, we bought a mix of gyros and donair, the tatziki sauce needs a little bit more flavour, the pita bread is not good, the texture is just like a regular slice white bread, chicken has no flavour, beef and lamb is just ok.
Great food, my favorite is the beef and lamb gyro. Fast friendly service highly recommend if youre in the mood for medditeranean.
Another great locally run business with yummy food. I don t suggest eating on the go unless you d like a lap full though
Great food, awesome service!
Always fresh, always delicious and always friendly!
Fabulous. The kids raved all the way home in the car asking What are these things they are so good! Ha Ha. First time for a Gyro and Donair.....they are hooked. Authentic little place with some quality food, totally recommend!
Nice place good service but if a greek came here they would be insulted the chicken in a gyro is meant to be roasted over a fire, grill or BBQ BURSTING WITH TENDER FLAVOUR NOT BOILED! Worst greek imitation i have been to. But if they fixed this one issue i believe the restaurant could be a nice place to stop in on .
Ordered 2 donairs & they arrived in a garbage bag from Y&G.... paid $5 extra for some extra item on my donair and I got 3 olives in total... yikes. Wont be coming back here... younis donair is definitely the way to go if you want good meat and BIG portion!!
Vue gud chimken jyro
Delicious food, and really genuine people. Enjoyable experience all around.
My husband and I were really looking forward to eating here. I am actually surprised at the high ratings this place has. We knew it wasnt going to be the best food, but gyros are my favourite. The food here is low quality. It didnt taste bad, there was nothing wrong with it, but when the tzatziki came out of a squirt bottle I wasnt super impressed. The salads were a really good value. The main reason for my low rating was about who I presume is the owner, an older lady who was making my food, made a very rude comment about my appearance, something I have been very self-conscious about. Because of this, I wont be back. Thanks for ruining my day.
Best donairs in town! Funny, charming and beautiful staff make visiting a pleasure every time. East coast sweet sauce is on point! Yummies can beat even the top donairs in Nova Scotia.
Delicious gyros... Always love this place!
The food, service and people are just amazing.!
Amazing service and best donairs around!
Nice to have a gluten free option!
Great food. Awesome kid combos. Surprisingly affordable for the quality of food. I recommend double meat it makes the gyro amazingly awesome. If that makes sense.
placed my order for a chicken donair, lady continued to doddle around and not make it is I stood there no one else in the place, after she eventually made it I asked her if she did put onion on it and she reassured me she did... she didnt. chicken looked disgusting and made me feel sick afterwards. overpriced for a messily made and thrown together meal that I could not eat.
Great quality and taste but should be priced at $6.99 as opposed to $8.25 because the portion size is quite small. Most likely wont fill you up. You have to pay extra for vegetables too.
Always yummy
It says they close at 5pm but at 355pm they wont answer the phone to place an order or allow orders through skip the dishes! Very disappointed and would only recommend if you want to eat dinner at 3pm
Yum!
Best place to get a gyro before 4pm. Use your stamps to make a free one.
It was ok Ive had better in the past. Way to much sauce not much meat.. Ill try it one More Time..
Very good and tasty food, clean , friendly staff, not fancy but a nice place for an economical lunch
The falafel was old and had only lettuce, tomato and onion w/ tzatziki. When i asked about pickled turnip or tabouleh, i was told i dont know what i talk about. I was so hungty and first time in the area, so i tried to eat it, but i gave up after half. The ow er/lady in charge was defensive and rude.
Had fun and enjoyed the food!
Delicious. Looking for a small place to just enjoy some good Greek food? This is it. Never disappointed coming here. Staff are always super pleasant and personable. They have a variety of meats for your food, and it is always nice to see a gyros place serve some lamb and beef on a spit.
Nicest staff, cute place. Family owned. Will be back!!
Fantastic food. Great service :)
Took my 16 year old Son for his first time here today. He says to me.... What the F ! Why havent you ever thaken me here before? I just smiled and said Its now Our Secret place You definitely have a New Huge Fan/Client !!
Delicious gyros! They have 2 sauces, one sweet and the regular tzatsiki sauce. Their coffee is also delicious!
Best donairs up island and the owner is a sweetheart.
Eww, who makes gyros with boiled chicken. Pretty blend. Not sure how it is rated 4.3 Noted later that you can some more veggies; I would be glad to do that, and pay extra for it, but neither that wasn t mentioned on the menu board, nor told when ordering.
Poor customer service and the lady was awful to deal with
It was delicious
Best donairs I have ever had anywhere, must be tried to be believed
Great food and fun staff
Tried their Beef Donair for the first time today and it was delicious but it was very wet. Like, it dripped on the floor in a stream kind of wet hahah. I think if I go again Ill opt for the tzatziki sauce instead of the wet sweet stuff. The diner style seating looked comfy but there werent too many spaces because everybody was occupying them. Only had time for a take-out anyway. Will be back to try the salad and maybe a gyro.
Are there for the first time and was not disappointed. Polite staff and great gyros. Will go back again.
The falafel here is AMAZING!!
Would be nice if it was open later. Hard to plan a dinner when it closes at 5 pm
Good food
Thanks for the best gyros
Very good donair.cute place, friendly staff.reasonable prices good job!
Amazing food and great service!
Such good food. Love that they have a gluten free option for us seliacs! Best meat in town! Do yourself a favor and get yourself a Gyros!
A great personal experience with the staff personable and engaging, followed by a fantastic meal at good prices. I came to Courtney for three days, ate here three times, brought my mom, and her sister, and just... please help. I cant stop.
Its named Yummies cuz its all yummy...prices are very reasonable $6.50 for gyro or donair
Pretty bad...they put onions on like they are trying to hide the lack of seasoning on their meat or the fact that their hummus is like syrup and the feta is also strange (or just syscos cheapest)...its bad...taco time is better cause the quality is the same but its a bit cheaper and more tacos for your buck...sorry Yummies but you suck i should have got that indian grill cause they actually deliver rather than using a 5 dollar service without telling you...i see lots of good reviews here...i assure you mine is real im sincerely suprised to see ppl saying this is good greek....my dad makes better gyros and the donair is low rate...if you think otherwise you need to try some real kabob
Delicious beef and lamb, excellent ingredients! Must try.
Fair prices and the food there is delicious! Super friendly staff as well. I got the beef and lamb donair and it was made perfectly
Love this place every time I go to Courtney I have to stop here so yummy
Delicious donairs
LOVE THIS PLACE!! Just wish you wear open later then 5. I always want it for dinner during the week after work, but you close at 5 and I dont get off tell 5 .
Great alternative from the regular lunch, quick and delicious.
Wasnt a fan. I was a chef for 10 years and found the meat to be very tasteless, and the owner to very arrogant. She argued the fact that I wanted sugar for my coffee, then said she would get it for me and I waited almost 15 minutes before getting up and getting it myself. Thats poor customer service!! Ill never eat there again, and mainly because of the owners attitude.
The ONLY reason I dont give 5 stars is because they dont have pineapple for the sweetsauce donair... I could eat my weight of those! The food nourishes the belly, but the people there nourish the Soul ;)
Tasty food, nice people
Best gyros and donairs in the Valley in my opinion.
Great as always! Ive eaten Donairs(east coast style) from coast to coast. Theirs are the best in the west! If you dont believe me come and have one. You wont be disappointed!
Got my card stamped for a free lunch.YumYum.
I love this place!! Best gyros Ive had anywhere
Amazing gyros - the sauce is delicious! This is a hidden gem. My only complaint would be the price tag for add-ons which I feel should be worked into the overall cost of the sandwich. Each extra topping, like hummus or banana peppers is $1. A lunch for three (2 adults + 1 kid) can easily come to $40+. With that said, we are originally from Toronto where Greek and Middle Eastern lunch spots like this speckle the city yet do not come close to comparing in taste to Yummies.
Yummy yummy in my tummy. A good gyro. Small place inside, very flavourful.
