Decided to try Seh-Mi for sushi, haven t before. Overall it was decent. There are better options out there. The mackerel nigiri wasn t edible. It smelled and tasted very fishy. Maybe the piece they sliced mine from was going bad? The bbq eel nigiri was ok. They leave the skin on, and it s really jelly-like and slimy. Like chewing through and swallowing a glob of snot. I had to disassemble the pieces and remove the skin. The other pieces of sushi I had were all ok. The tuna was really mushy for some reason. Not at all a pleasant texture. I won t recommend this place for sushi, but maybe their hot items would be a go-to over their fish Ichiban and sushi wara will be my choices and recommendations for fish and sushi menu items over Seh-mi

I visited because of positive reviews, but the rice was dry and the food wasnt prepared with care. They didnt ask me how the food was and I wasnt even provided with water. The smell inside the restaurant... the abandoned warehouse-like atmosphere was evident even inside the restaurant. I had a hard time putting up with it since I was with my family. I paid but was disappointed

We tried this restaurant a month back, and upon leaving the restaurant we were CRAVING it. So went back a second time, and same thing. Some of the best sushi weve had, the best takoyaki and the agedashi cheese was incredible. Being from the city and previously living in Vancouver, I was super impressed with the quality here. Highly recommend!!

Best sushi in the valley! Menu is very accommodating and everything from their noodle dishes to their rolls are delicious :). Super nice staff, not very talkative whenever Ive gone in but probably because its often a bit busy at dinner time. The restaurant itself is a nice vibe and lots of seating for largish parties ! Vegetarian options: Almost all of their noodle/rice dishes have vegetarian options.

Only visited because we were in town and saw many positive reviews. Bluntly, we were disappointed with service and food. We ordered chicken katsu, which was served over deep-fried. The salad was the only good thing in it. After waiting another 15 minutes, they finally brought us rolls we ordered. We were not expecting much after that but suprised nonetheless. The rice was dry and everything was extremely chewy, fish was in small pieces and barely there. The vegetarian selection is quite poor and even at that the serving of veggie sushi was terrible. At the end, no one ever asked us how the food was even though it was not busy at all and there were 3 of the servers just chatting. Will not be coming back. Vegetarian options: Poor. Parking: Behind the building.

We lived 20years in Toronto and Montreal, where there is a huge selection of pretty good Japanese restaurants. I must say that we were very impressed Seh-mis prompt and friendly service, food freshness and quality, and we very impressed with pricing. The best sushi we have ever had is Sehmi! Thank you ! You are a gem to this community!

Wheelchair accessibility: Feasible Food

We are new to the valley and we were craving Japanese food. This is a large restaurant with many big booths. Our greeting and service was friendly and the food was good and fairly priced. We will return.

Very good selection. Excellent food and service was great.

I visited during busy hours, so service level was reasonable. Not a single server greeted me or told me to wait, even after seeing me standing at the entrance for 3-4 minutes. And because it was busy hours, service was not so pleasant. Please don t let your feeling become your attitude. Hence 3/5 stars for service. Tip is earned btw. Not free.

HUGE serve, I wasnt expecting so much great food. All thriller very little filler (plain rice). Some of us took advance of doggy bags to take something home for dinner. Vegetarian options: If you are vego get the vegetable Bento minus miso unless they charge from having fish in it. Tofu was great and had stir fried veg, the salad was incredibly refreshing, tempura had a good mix of veg. Take the rest home for dinner

I went here to celebrate my graduation with a friend, and it was incredible. Such a great amount of tasty food for such a reasonable price!

Staffing during this review is difficult to judge based on the availability of people willing to work but the food was good. Perhaps I was just impatient. The serving was a little chaotic but we got everything we ordered.

The oysters were in the top 3 of anything Ive ever had anywhere, and that includes ones Ive caught, shucked and cooked myself. The bento boxes measured up right with the oysters. A truly unappreciated gem of the Comox Valley.

Got a Party platter to-go. It was fresh, melt in your mouth and prices excellent.

As someone who has high standards for sushi, I was blown away with the quality for the price. We picked up the party platter and all the ingredients were melt in your mouth fresh. Staff were extremely friendly and even though it was a brief interaction it felt like they genuinely appreciated us as customers. Will make sure to stop by next time I m visiting.

Amazing Monkey Brain the O.M.G roll was a party in my mouth. The green dragon roll was simply delicious. Best miso soup ever, finally the sunomono salad was overflowing (in a good way) with fresh seafood. The restaurant was a full house, yet the servers were attentive and so friendly. Highly recommended

We waited 55 minutes for food that was barely ok, weve had way better food in other places in the ComoxValley, the service here was horrible.. do yourself a favor and avoid this restaurant theres way better sushi restaurants here,, we wouldnt even consider going back

Good Service. Prices are a bit high, but not unreasonable for the Valley. Got a large take out order for lunch. Fish quality was good. Rice was super dry, to the point that the rolls and nigiri were falling apart. Good sushi starts with the rice. Might try it again in a few months and update the review if applicable.

Been a while since weve eaten at Seh-mi last. The atmosphere was just as good, cozy and nice. The staff are friendly. Ordered the KFC (Korean fried chicken) and it wasnt what we expected, they were more like chicken bites covered in sauce than chicken wings. Mostly ordered rolls for our main and they were all alright, not bad but not great either, not sure why. Maybe well give it another shot in a year or so but until then will check out others for comparison.

Such great service! I had the terriaki chicken. It came sizzling hot and very flavourful. The restaurant also has a warm atmosphere which always earns another big star. Thank you.

The food was pretty good. Had sashimi and a bento box. We had arrived late and finished our dinner 15 minutes after closing. Harassed by a staff member for lingering over our sake. There might have been a more polite way.

Great food :) and the sashimi is reasonable sizes, even the sockeye. Service was a bit forgetful of details like menus and drink refills, but the food showed up quickly. Also, I love the little bit of carrot etc. on top of the gomaae. Vegetarian options: The Agedashi tofu is great, but I didnt ask whether the broth was truly vegetarian. The gomaae is really good too.

10/10 recommend this place. Try the Megaton roll.

Ordered salmon teriyaki with stir fried vegetables and rice. The meal was very tasty but the salmon was really over cooked. The staff were very friendly and gave me a complimentary tea as my order wasnt ready when they said it would be. I will be ordering again just not salmon there is a great selection to choose from. Just had lunch which was very good. We both had lunch bento boxes. This was much better than the first time that we ordered here.

Kinda dissapointed again, I thought id give them another shot since the last time they werent as good as last time, but this time my oysters never came with the salad its soposed to come with, just oysters and sauce, and the roll I ordered never came with soya sauce or wusabi, and my miso had no seaweed in it... and the portion size got alot smaller. Very dissapointed, much more better options imo

After seeing very good reviews, we tried Seh-mi for lunch. The food was okay to good (e.g., the avocado in the rolls was almost non-existent), and for the prices being charged, I personally think there are better/fresher options in the valley. Service was great! In terms of atmosphere, the restaurant had a bit of a funky smell to it. Ive been told theyre not the first restaurant in the building, so it could be lingering from a previous restaurant? I dont know. Update after the message from the owner: Thanks for taking reviews seriously! I dont remember posting photos of our visit. I actually forgot to take a photo of my own dish. Also, Im absolutely certain we visited your restaurant -- it was within the past week.

Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) with Korean BBQ sauce was awesome!! It tastes authentic K-bbq style + It is boneless chicken so easy to eat. Also, had a fried shrimp dish( no pic though) was very crisp and delicious:) I strongly recommend this place if you like to try K-chicken in Courtenay.

My absolute favourite restaurant in Courtenay. I love their sushi, their bentos, they have a very diverse menu with all good options, and theyve always been very friendly. Highly recommend. Wheelchair accessibility: Its at ground level, so theres no need for a ramp.

Never disappoints. Favorite place for all reasons

We have ordered take out and dined in here a few times now over the past month - just can not get enough!- the take out is just as delicious/warm and properly plated as is dinning in. The effort they put into packaging and separating hot/cold orders is awesome. One time it was extremely busy when we ate there so as expected our service was slower and food came out longer than it did the other time when there was just a few tables but that s a good thing, getting your dishes fast when it s super busy only means the dishes are not fresh and many items are pre cooked waiting on stand by. This is now our go to place for sushi/hot classic Korean food!

Lots of deep fried food

We reserved for a party of 8 to celebrate my birthday. Hadnt been before. We were ALL impressed! The food was fresh and delicious with LOTS to choose from. And our server was efficient and pleasant. We will definitely be back and definitely commend Seh-mi Sushi!! Vegetarian options: Plenty of options! delicious. Kid-friendliness: We came with 3 kids: 9, 7 and 1.5. They were treated as well as the rest of us. And Seh-mi had their favorite drink!! Wow! No problems at ALL.

We ordered an appetizer to start then the chicked dish for my wife and the dynamite bento box for myself. After around 25 minutes my wifes meal was brought to te table. We enquired after the appetizer and the meal was removed. While we waited for the appetizer some of the bento box items were brought to the table and 10 minutes later we received the appetizer arrived which was tasty. A few minutes later my wifes now cold meal was brought and shortly after the rest on the bentos box arrived. My food was flavourless and hers cold. We took home most of her chicken to warm up and will not be going back to this establishment. My complaint when paying was met with smiles and agreement that it could have gone better.

Always the best!

It was quiet but I was in and out in 15 minutes. Got my green tea with my miso soup. Then I got my agadashi tofu with my maki and my inari tofu . It was hot and delicious. If you want fast good food I highly recommend. Vegetarian options: Its sushi there are vegan and pesicatarian options.

Excellent service, very polite staff. The food was excellent, especially the tempura. Its been a long time since Ive had tempura that was that tasty and a good texture without being too greasy. The sushi tasted fresh and was put together well. The sunomono had a refreshing subtle sourness to the vinegar. It wasnt too loud or too bright, so the atmosphere felt nice and relaxed. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will be returning next time I want sushi.

Every time Ive ordered here the food is fresh, fast and satisfying. One of my go to places when I havent packed a lunch and want to feel good after I eat ( instead of fast food drive through). I call ahead and its ready for pick up in about 15 minutes.

Service was friendly and fast. I died and went to sushi heaven when I was informed so many things could be gluten free, including the tempura! Highly recommend. We ordered 6 rolls and they were all delicious.

This place never disappoints. Always tasty, my go to place. Warm Saki has a good taste. Quite a large menu. Be adventurous, dont just have a roll. Has a fireplace and booths. Shrimp sunimono is good to. Sushi/Sashimi lunch box good value a $14 range

Our familys go-to sushi restaurant in town. If you want take-out, the online ordering system works well and its simple. Their sushi and sashimi is great, tempura is hot and crispy and not greasy. In fact, no dish has been disappointing, and weve tried almost all of them. I recommend you try the halibut tempura. Staff are also friendly and efficient. All round, a great restaurant. Prices are not low, mind you...

Flavor is really authentic for Spicy Seafood Ramen (more like chewhly noodle not instant noodle at all) a.k.a jjambbong in Korean. Super busy vibrant place need to wait for seating and ordering food for sure. One point minus for the second smoke that kept wafting in from the opened kitchen door (its hot I understand) and ppl smoking near the door. Will be back again and maybe sit farther away from the entrance to avoid that.

Service was great but the food was definitely sub par. Sushi had very little flavor, sashimi was also very bland. The best part of the nigiri was the rice which tasted fresh but again the fish was not enjoyable.

This is definitely one of Courtenay s hidden gems. Very clean inside and the servers were friendly and efficient. Now for the food, we had the Chef s Plate which changes daily and only a limited amount are served. It was delicious, actually better than delicious. We also had the California Bento and equally as yummy. They also were generous with the amount of food as we could not eat it all. Absolutely coming back!

What an unexpected pleasure to find such an amazing cuisine. We are greeted with warm welcome and seated promptly. The tea was great! There are a lot of things to choose from. No only Japanese, but also Korean bbin pop was delicious. The bento box was delicious, too. Wonderful presentation. We were attended to professionally so we never need to ask for anything. We recommend this restaurant highly of you get a chance to be in the neighbourhood, you must eat here.

Stellar lunch once again. Takoyaki special is amazing at $4. The Korean inspired beef bulgogi bowl was phenomenal. Always stop here on my way through Courtney.

We order takeout from here all the time but this was my first dine-in experience in quite a while. Perfect everything and got to introduce another visitor to this amazing place. The pic is from a previous take out order...

Overall a great sushi place. Friend got some food that had a disproportionate ratio of fat:meat, but everything else was solid. The booths are nice, and my only feedback to improve them would be to partition them more for better privacy / atmosphere (ex: curtains similar to other sushi places).
