I was waiting for over 40 minutes in a lineup because they ran out of FORKS!! yes, forks.. Under staffed on a long weekend is absurd. As I got to the front of the line there is a small sign stating we need Id after 7pm and we got there right before 7pm. Refused to serve us, had terrible service, terrible signage stating we needed to bring Id. We asked if we can get food without alcohol (as planned) and still refused. If you don t have ID make sure you re there way before 7pm

Their $6.95 menu on Saturdays is fantastic, though updating it would be beneficial. A few weeks ago, we noticed that the Sun-dried Tomato Pesto Penne didnt include the listed sun-dried tomato pesto (it was green pesto instead) and was missing the green onions and regular onions that were listed. The grilled cheese, advertised as cranberry sourdough, was served as toast with cranberry sauce and green pesto instead of red pesto. It was still tasty, just not what we expected from the menu. However, we were promptly seated and our server was excellent, making the dining experience still enjoyable.

We came for trivia night and drinks. Beers are $8 a piece and martinis are about $10. I had the peach martini. It was as described in the menu...andbit was fine which is my polite way of saying, it wasnt bad, and it didnt feel like anything special. The beer menu is very safe, even the craft beer choices. Youll find plenty of familiar BC brews on it. We didnt book a table ahead, so we had to sit at the counter overlooking the pizza prep. I spent a couple of hours there, in that not very comfortable chair, wondering what was going on with the wall behind the pizza prep. It is a strange design that looks like someone went bananas with a clip art suite.

Serves drunks and tolerates homophobes! Take action to be better allies, or be honest about your beliefs!!! Id rather starve than spend a cent in your establishment.

Showed up on Father s Day at 5:50. Restaurant is almost empty. Waited a few minutes to even get acknowledged with a be, Be right with you. The server was then just chatting with the bartender instead of sitting us. We got fed up and went across the street to Brown s to have good service. Won t be back.

Terrible food. A half slice of Crunchy old stale cheadder in my beef dip instead of Swiss...... no Swiss but still was charged extra for the nasty cheadder. Add mushrooms..... I pay extra for.....no mushrooms. Onions come with it....... no onions..... no aju gravy instead...... no aju but charged for 2 gravys in bag...... I called, asked to talk to someone. Was told I had to call the boss...... no I already worked for the money to pay for this meal, I shouldnt have to work again to have it corrected. Gave them my number and asked for the boss to call me back....... so Im still waiting for a call back........ I have pictures of the meal to back my complaint. So...???...

Bar staff was awesome

This is the first time weve been here for dinner and was a bit disappointing. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Our orders came out really quickly which was appreciated. As for the food itself both my husband and I felt there was too much salt on the dishes. He had the pepper chicken wings (8 wings) and the calamari. I had the bacon onion burger with a ceasar side. The burger was topped with two onion rings and the meat portion was substantial but very salty. Ive been here and have had their lunch specials which are a good price and havent been disappointed but I dont think Ill have the burger again. This place reminds me of a neighbourhood pub that has its fair share of regulars and with how friendly all the wait staff were I can understand why.

The bartender was outstanding the entire time and helped pick out a top notch craft beer based on my taste/ likes ... The wood fired pizza was boss.... We considered lots of restaurant options when we were in Courtenay a couple of weeks ago. After looking at several menus online, we decided on the Flying Canoe. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Shes a vegetarian and enjoyed a wood-fired margherita pizza and a (huge) salad. She said it was one of the best salads shed ever had from a restaurant. I had chicken wings, garlic toast, pizza, and Caesar salad. The quality of food and the portion sizes were great. Great selection of locally crafted draft beer as well. Would definitely eat there again when were back.

UPDATED JAN 23 2023 I once again have to commend this established for their not only amazing food but EXCEPTIONAL customer service. I had a bad experience with Skip (I recommend not using them for food delivery). The manager (Todd) took full responsibility for a mistake that may or may not have been the restaurants fault. He was quick to respond and was super friendly in the process. He rectified the situation and was so pleasant to deal with. I have been ordering from Flying Canoe for 2 years and this was the first and only time I have had a problem. I will ALWAYS recommend The Fkying Canoe!! The food is absolutely exceptional and the prices are so fair for the portions! I order from them regularly and have never been dissapointed. Their hot spinach dip is phenomenal!!

A very extremely friendly local neighbourhood pub with very good delicious food like the Hawaiian Luau Pizza-Classic Cheese Burger with Fries and the Extra Hot Chicken Wings and a good selection of drinks and very good loyal caring dedicated cheerful good hearted loving and hard working staff featuring Tarun-Amanda-Robert-Olivia-Danielle-Sam-Taylor-Molly-Braelyn-Roberta-Chantelle-Sohela and Birendra who are always happy to serve their customers with very big smiles on their faces. A very diverse selection of music played in the pub including Top 40-Country Music and a little dose of Heavy Metal on the side. I always have had a warm positive experience at the pub and I have always recieved a lot of TLC. I strongly suggest coming on down to the Flying Canoe Pub because you will love it and the pub manager Todd looks like Shaggy from the classic cartoon Scooby Doo. Our server Amanda was very nice and professional. Must have hit a bad night for the kitchen as the salad was really bad. Salmon was also over cooked and rubbery. Amanda and her manager immediately offered to replace my meal which was very nice of them. I ordered the fish and chips which were very good. My coworkers ordered the pizza which looked completely undercooked and slapped together hastily. Other coworkers had the ribs which they enjoyed. Nice atmosphere however I think you need to stick to the menu items that are core to their wheel house.

I had ribs and wings, they were great. My husband had fish and chips, the fish had zero taste (something to improve on). The serving staff was very good. Great ambiance.

Reluctantly a bad review. My general rule is thumbs up. I come to the valley for work 15 plus times a year for work. I try to come here since its at the bw hotel. Time after time dissapointmet. One time i stood to be seated for over 2 minutes in a slow tume like 3 tables. So i left.. Staff sitting in the back corner by the bar in numbers multiple occaisons. . Tonite i was Sat at 540pm no word of specials or happy hour. I think this is my last time trying. Food is reasonable pub food Pizza is tasty. Atmosphere and attitude and service are really poor. Tonite 2 ladies on shift only one working inmy opinion. Sadly she wasnt my server. But she seated me.water.greeted me. Ran circles around the other galwith other tables. Brought my food.asked how i was. Took my second drink order Rolled cutler brought the bill and made others peploe visit pleasant. She should apply across the street at bsh. Thats where i will be most times moving forward If mgmt wants the name of my server they can contact me..

Four of us ate here on a quiet Sunday night. We had onion rings, green salad, chicken linguine and meat pizza. All delicious, served hot by Annie. We enjoyed chatting with her, she added great value to a fun evening.

Service is great, staff is friendly. Food is sub par. I ordered a Buffalo chicken burger, couldnt finish it. It looked like they just re heated some chicken, threw on some craft singles cheese and hot sauce and called it a burger. Fries were bland. Spinach dip was practically flavourless, needs more cheese in my opinion.

I ordered the ribs, and they were horrible. Very poorly cooked and not tender. The ribs were cleaned well (none of that plastic like skin), however not fall off the bone, a lot of it was stuck to the ribs and you got an arm workout using the steak knife to cut the meat away from the bone.

As a regular of the hotel, these guys really need to learn how to turn off the outside speakers for trivia nights. When I can hear enough specifics to know one question was about 1812, and another one had a correct answer of Nat Turner, and could play if I opened a window, thats too loud. WAY too loud. I wont complain to the amazing BW staff, because theyre doing their best, and got overruled, even though they had multiple complaints about this. Trivia night does not matter this much to tick off the customers of the hotel. I shouldnt need ear plugs at 9:20pm. Ive had the food -- I might get a discount card for staying at the hotel, but Ive only eaten there twice. Granted, that was two years ago nearly, but I wouldnt be writing a review if they had just turned the volume down on the PA system. It most certainly did not need to be this loud. At. All.

Foodwise, it was decent. However, I would not recommend the ribs, they were VERY cold. The rib under the one top was still frozen. They were also very dry. It wasnt enjoyable in the slightest. The fries that came with it on the other hand, was quite good. The seafood pasta consisted of mussels, salmon and prawns in a white sauce. It was quite good, very hot and filling. However, the salmon was so dry, I was doing my best to avoid it in my dish. It was very overcooked and not as enjoyable as the rest of the dish. I would recommend something else, or order it without the salmon. I would not recommend the Manhattan whiskey sour - it definitely couldve been better in my personal opinion. It was extremely extremely sour, perhaps due to too much citrus concentrate? I do believe it could have been toned down in that department, but if you like biting down lemons and limes, this might be a drink for you. Or perhaps ordering a double instead? Didnt experiment with this too much as I was diluting it with water. For appetizers, we had wings and the calamari and I do not have any complaints. If anything, the calamari was chewy but not in a bothersome way. The waiter was nice and did his job well. No complaints; I enjoyed his service.

Been here a couple times for the music trivia on Wednesday night. Very cool! The venue is very nice and theres lots of TVs, including a very large projector screen for watching the game. Nice selection of beer on tap. Unfortunately, both times Ive gone, Ive gotten my first beer quickly, and then when that was dry waited for about 10 minutes for wait staff to ask if I wanted another. With the amount of wait staff working, youd think that would not be a problem. Possibly could have been due to our waitress sitting and socializing with another guest. Some of the waitresses bust their arse, but Ive been less than impressed twice in a row. I wonder if the training or management is a little lacking? Might try again, but 3 strikes youre out.

Eh, we hade dinner. The server was lovely, my husband loved the taco special (3$ a taco on Tuesday) I had the fish and chips and it was pretty good . One star off for the lack of music, it was so bizzare. I m happy to listen to whatever 80s mix most places are willing to play. Except we were struck listening to buddy s tiktok behind us.

First time in a long time that a restaurant batted 1000! From the moment we were greeted by Amanda, the service and food were absolutely perfect! When this level of attention to detail is displayed it instantly is such a pleasure to eat there. I will always come back here when we are up island. Cheers!

You MUST get yourself here and have a pizza! On my first visit I had salmon which was a 4 stars experience. On the second visit, pizza was fantastic and over 5 stars!

We came here on a Sunday night for dinner when we were visiting Courtenay. From the outside it looked like a regular pub, but once we got inside the layout and decor was quite impressive. The food we ordered was very good - as was the service. I was VERY impressed with the selection of craft beers - whoever is in charge of this has obviously done their homework and it shows -they had a better variety and selection of craft beers than a lot of tap houses that I have been to. To top it off, it was also karaoke night and that was a blast to sit back and watch the show. Next time we are in Courtenay we are definitely coming back here.

Friendly staff but unfortunately its fair to say my order was less than average. Overcooked proteins and nasty smelling colesalaw. Theyll find it hard to compete with the new KFC across the road if that continues.

Always a good time at the Canoe. Beer selection is generally very good, occasionally they do run low on the popular selections. The food is also quite good. The staff always come to take orders promptly and are pleasant and nice to talk to, they also return regularly to ensure you dont go thirsty! The restaurant is always nice and clean. Also family friendly around meal times.

Not much here anymore. Just staying alive. I unwisely ordered the butter chicken - Indian food at a pub- what was I thinking. Terrible preparation but also virtually no chicken in the dish. Should be taken off the menu.

Heard the food was good, must be the pizza, which we didnt have. I had the beef dip with ceasar salad, frozen dried out roast beef sandwich slices, packaged au jus, store bought salad dressing (does not taste homemade as claimed) and tiny boxed croutons for $18. Hubby had Albacore tuna poke with a sticky rice paste and onion rings $26. Will not return or recommend. Waitress was pleasant. I understand prices having to increase but dont sacrifice quality.

Havent been for a while. Prices have gone up considerably and was not worth it. Well here we are 5 yrs later Friday night just after 5:00 and we are told that they are understaffed and we will have to wait to be seated. Half the tables in the restaurant were empty. You arent the only place in town. Maybe if the owners paid there staff a fair wage they could staff the place. I guess well wait for the next owners before we come back..

Only dined here once and probably wont return. My mac and cheese was really runny and flavourless - like watered down cheese soup with no seasoning or salt. The service was also really slow and parking was really restricted. The dill chips were yummy though!

Had the Buffalo chicken burger. great chicken burger, east smothered in hot sauce and was real chicken not the frozen chicken breast you usually get. onion rings really good too, would eat here again.

Saturday dinner choices for under $7 along with regular priced items. Relaxing atmosphere. Sports on lots of TVs, but all turned down. Waitress was attentive and sweet.

Very basic place. Menu options are the same price as quality items found at nearby restaurants. The drinks are very basic - not even fresh mint for a mojito. Instead, mint syrup. The only fresh thing was a lime wedge. Menu & server also told me that the ginger beer was local and then read on the can that it is made in Massachusetts, USA. On a busy night, they were out of stock for cider. Salsa came on my friends burger. Why?!? The pizzas are basic and nothing to boast about. The nachos were sub par. I would not go back. It wasn t a terrible experience, just a bland and very uninspiring one, at the same cost as a restaurant that s worth going to. My only suggestion for ordering here: a beer on tap. That s it.

It s obviously the locals pub with low expectations. We had undercooked fish and chips and terrible nachos that were tough, greasy with only the top cheese melted. Very disappointing, we won t be back.

Honestly I never write reviews but I am so happy it tried this place out. I am here in town for work and staying at the Best Western and I didn t feel like driving somewhere to eat. Thought I would come here for convenience and what a great surprise! So many craft drinks on tap! The wings were excellent! I had some at moxies not long ago and these were WAY BETTER by far!! (And cheaper) . I was so happy to have the basketball game on the projector that s the size of the entire wall. I had an awesome waitress Taylor who was attentive and helped me choose my dinner option. So happy I went with the pizza ( the open flame stone grill was calling my name ). It sure did not disappoint! Honestly, this may be the best pizza I have eaten in years! It was awesome to see it being prepped and made fresh through the glass window. Thanks for an awesome dinner, I am truly pleased! I will definitely be back if I am in town! My only suggestion would be to offer beer flights! You have such great selection, why not serve flights!? :)

My friends and I went for their cheap Saturday evening $6.95 menu. Was pleasantly surprised! I had the beef tacos and lemon pepper chicken wings. Tacos were 2 large over filled tacos and was delicious. The wings I expected to be a small portion but was a full size portion, but the flavor of the lemon pepper wasnt much. My friend had dill pickle wings and was even less flavor. Other than kinda bland wings, the portions and other food we had was fantastic!

Great wings, pizza and beer! We went today and they were quite short staffed, however we still received good service and the food arrived in normal time. One of the top caesars out there! This is my third time here and it is consistently excellent.

I ordered chicken strips, I took one bite and the middle of the chicken strip was completely raw. I asked the waitress if I could get a new plate of chicken strips, and she asked if they could just re fry the ones I had I said no. I asked for new ones. Anyway they didn t give me any money off I was still charged the full price. I didn t fight it or ask for a free meal, just thought that was common knowledge. Oh well. Pretty disappointed.

The bartender/server (Dec 6 late afternoon) was so friendly and awesome. There seemed to be several regular old timers in this pub and it was nice to see how well everyone was treated by this server. Also, the beef dip and fresh hot fries were excellent!!!

Had their so called west coast forno oven pizza. Poor quality ingredients, particularly the cheese, resulting in soggy middle, poor tasting pizza. Nope!
