High Tide Public House in Courtenay

Food is mediocre at best, server was nice.

This was a quaint pub with modern nautical theme. We had fish a chips and the fish tacos. The food was average but tasted good, the service was attentive. I would go back.

Not for us. Food was meh. Staff kinda seemed to want us to hurry and leave an hour to close. Wouldn t come back.

Ok.. for a public house they close at 5 pm yet we went there at 4 for a drink and the doors were closed. No sign nothing on the door. Also.. two employees sat there and watched us trying to open the door. Really? Are you that amazing you close early (no sign) and can sit there and not even acknowledge customers?

While visiting Courtney, we stopped here for a drink and decided to have a starter to go with our drink. I ordered the Calamari to share and they were excellent! I love calamari and have sampled it from all over the world. This calamari was one of the best I have ever had. The peppers and tomato were perfect with them and when I asked for a different dipping sauce since I cannot have Yogurt, the cook suggested a spicy aioli which worked perfectly!

We enjoyed our visit to Courtenay and finished the day with a meal at High Tide. We sat outside on the patio where the table was a bit tippy. Nice view of the street traffic. I had a delicious blackberry margarita and veggie burger. The food was very good, portions generous. Our server was not particularly friendly. We had a great time however, visiting with two other customers at a nearby table. Prices were reasonable. Vegetarian options: The veggie burger was very good.

I had a delightful lunch here on the patio. The server was kind and friendly, and the food was delicious and tasted homemade, in the best of ways. The burger bun was especially good and we learned they are made in-house. We also really enjoyed the calimari and the fries.

There is not much offer in the area. Alright

We had a really bad experience yesterday. My husband went in and sat down and told the server that his wife and baby would be coming soon. When I arrived with our sleeping 6 month old on the stroller to the back or the building where there was no one seated we were told to leave because children are not allowed and it s not family friendly. It s on 5th street, our baby was asleep, what s the difference between a pub and a restaurant if there s gonna be a bar? We were not seated at the bar? She is 6 months not a running toddler and it was around 4 pm. We didn t really even think it was a pub . The way she handled things was not great. We were hungry and with a baby trying to get something to eat quickly. It was very rude and insulting . Next time put a sign NO BABIES ALLOWED

Reasonably busy when I got there for a pickup but nice staff. Fish and chips was very good but could have been in the deep fried a bit longer for the coating.

First time trying this restaurant since I just moved here and am so impressed! The lemon Greek riblets were to die for and same with the Korean bbq cauliflower. Will definitely be going back!

Nice place to connect with friends. Modest seating but well laid out with a mix of more private bench seats with tables both standard and stool height. Attentive professional service and a nice small city feel. Will be back.

We came to eat close to closing time which is 8 pm. Surprising for a pub to be closed that early however it was not very busy. One person serving patrons. She was awesome. Food took a little while to come. It was presented very well and tasty however my burger was just a tad too long on the grill. The bun and meat were too crispy on the edges. Prices are $$. But it is in line with others around the area. I do recommend this place.

Met friends for dinner. Had a happy hour happy. The calamari was so flavorful. Then had the Korean chicken sandwich. Huge and tasted great. No room for dessert. Next time!

Great spot for a drink and pub snacks. Dark and romantic, could make a great place for a first date! Used to have an extensive menu of martinis, but now it looks like their drink list is more evolved and includes a bit of something for everyone - good beers, good wines, good cocktails.

The food is always great and lots of it. Sarah is a wonderful waitresses and great personality.

My husband and I love going to High Tide firstly because of Sarah, we just love her, and secondly, its the delicious food!

We went here for happy hour while visiting Courtenay. The appies were half price and jugs of beer were $15. They did however run out of wings and everyone in our group ordered wings so some of us had to change our orders. But in the end we were all full and pleased with the food. Would definitely go back for more starters and nibbles. Cheers

Super tasty food. The meatloaf is unbelievable.

While some might judge the decor as a neighborhood bar it is far more than that. I had one of the best Ceaser salads I have had in a while. Real anchovies in the recipe and you can really taste the quality. Amazing service and I wish I came here during live music. Triple thumbs up.

Service - charming, the whole team made sure that we were cared for. Food - good, very good and enough but not gluttony enough. Atmosphere - not fine dining decor but friendly lounge/pub with tasteful decorations. Music - GREAT! I was so impressed! And the band was local!

My visit was a tale of two extremes. I had the burger and fries, the burger had a really big patty which I didnt understand since it overpowered everything else, but to add to that it was burnt and cooked to a point where there was no juice or moisture and very little sauce, I cant describe what it was like to try and get through it. The fries on the other hand were some of the best Ive ever had, perfectly cooked and seasoned. But the burger...it really was that bad. Service was excellent and nice atmosphere

Just had a delicous roast beef dinner that was melt in your mouth tender with yorkshire pudding and some of the best and creamiest mashed potatoes served with a skewer of fresh vegetables.. All that for the price of a hamburger at the whitespot. $13.95. Washed it down with some nice dark beer. And a coffee which tasted like it was brewed two weeks ago. Ok so the coffee sucked. If that was the only problem I think I will go back again and skip the coffee. So good work Hightide. See you soon.

The interior of this place is rough, but that either meant that A) they were focused on food and service above interior and had a loyal customer base, or B) they didnt care. Definitely A. Super good, unique food and friendly staff/atmosphere.

Looking for a spot in Courtney, we got sucked in by the patio and decent looking menu. What a bad call! The food was the worst weve had in ages, stale bread, packaged salad, tasteless wings. Other than to deliver the food, nobody came by our table to refill our drinks. We drove back to Victoria with stomach aches feeling gross. I really dont get how there are so many good reviews because this place was just plain awful.

Dry, poorly seasoned pub-fare. Not a great layout. Atmosphere early evening is trades people straight from work. Small patio area out into sidewalk.

High tide has really put a lot of effort into improving their menu, their service, and especially the atmosphere. Its worth the visit and if youre lucky youll get some amazing live music.

Great mojitos

Love this place! Right on the street with a small patio out front. Its always been too warm for patio though. Inside seemed cooler and our server was very nice. I personally loooved the Caesar salad! I ordered the burger with salad and the burger was dry, even with cheese and condiments. I ended up eating the burger without the bun. The salad... looove. The dressing was amazing and just the right amount of garlic (I love garlic). Next time I will order the Caesar salad with chicken. I tried a cocktail, cant remember the name but it was amazing! It was Malibu with blue curcaco. It was delicious!!!

I went here on the Name That Tune night and it was quite enjoyable, albeit I did very bad at it. I cannot say how the beer or cocktails was, as I didnt have any. I had a burger and it was pretty good. A solid top 3 in the burgers I have had in Courtenay. Staff is very involved and friendly, and its just generally a good vibing place. Would recommend highly that if you want a good place to hang, or if youre from out of gown, to go here.

Waitress was great....but service was ridiculously slow, portions were tiny for the extremely high price tags. Im not a huge portion person either and I was still hungry after scallop and bacon appie and the fisherman wrap. The wrap had one shrimp and a nugent of salmon literally. We used to come when it was Billy Ds and it was always great.....never coming again

Place started to go downhill before the change from Billy Ds, but I didnt think it would get worse. They were out of a few food items that are not on special on a Saturday at 5:30pm. That was our first reg flag, a properly ran place shouldnt run out of food. Ceasars were the worst any of us have ever had. They tasted like water and a stale clamato, Im assuming the clam is on tap and thats why they were trash. Food was okay - not very good, not very bad either. Service was sub par. Looks like our long time favourite spot is no more. Overall very disappointing meal and experience, and sad that things have changed so much.

Went there on a Thursday night. Our table was 6 People. Service was excellent, All the orders were correct, drinks were catered to and brought promptly I had the Quesadilla and others had the Steak sandwich. All remarks from the table was the food was excellent. I will go back
