I walked in just before they were closing today & they still made me a reuben & cappuccino, both of which are amazing. Love the kitschy vibe with Mr Bean, Chewbacca, references to aliens. It's one of the things that makes the place unique, not cookie-cutter. We've lost most places with owners who dare to show their personality, unfortunately. You can see this here, which I love. Love the back patio as well Wood, bricks, steel. As someone who works in marketing, IT & graphic design, and a former restaurant owner, a place like this - with great food to boot - makes me happy. Will definitely visit again. Thanks very much to the owners for the awesome reuben 🙏🙂
This was such a great place! I was wandering with a friend and we just stumbled upon this little treat of a cafe. I'm from the US and this is my first time in Canada, and I was so impressed with this as my first restaurant here! I got just a basic hotdog and it was just phenomenal. Their chai is excellent also!!
One of my favourite lunch spots in the valley and with good reason! Prices are incredibly affordable, especially considering the portion sizes! I love the genuine retro vibe, and the service has always been warm and welcoming every time I've eaten here. The Twisted Mint is truly a gem in Courtenay's downtown, one I hope stays for the foreseeable future!
Have dined here 3 times in the past year and always enjoy the experience! I like the quaint, old school diner decor, and they have a nice little patio area at the back. Have personally had breakfast, soup, and a beet salad, all of which have been excellent. One of my kids loved the homemade hamburger. I also think that the prices are great for the portions received.
Food was very natural tasting and not artificial like having been prepped hours before. Nice private quiet patio out back. Looks like family run which is nice to see.. and prices are on point if not really good for what you get we had the breakfast bagel and Buffalo chicken wrap.
We stumbled upon this little cafe quite by accident. We were visiting Courtenay from Parksville and couldn’t decide where we wanted to eat but noticed the sandwich board sign pointing up a side street. We might have missed it otherwise. The food was great! Simple fare but really tasty and very reasonably priced. It has a quirky vibe that we enjoyed and the owners were very friendly. We look forward to going back again soon!!
Really something special here. A warm and welcoming retro style cafe. The service is fast and friendly, the portions are affordable and delicious. It's difficult to find places like this nowadays. Really an outstanding establishment that I would highly recommend!
First time visit. it's a very small, honestly retro (not fake) sort of little mom and pop diner. the service was awesome, the prices are so reasonably low it is restores your faith in the restaurant experience, and the place while not fancy is very clean. Homemade burger with a ton of fries for $12.50......you can't do that at a fast food joint. Salad was loaded with cranberries and nuts and bacon....Tea was $1. and the people were genuinely really nice. why go elsewhere....
I ordered the Ruben and it was absolutely terrible. One tiny slice of pastrami That had the texture of beef jerky. And about an inch thick of sauerkraut. They didn t have any soup available and also didn t have items available that they were advertising on their menu. Doesn t seem like a tightly knit run business and don t appear to have the facilities to Adequately prepare food, probably due to the age of the building.
Portion size on the club house is massive. Im a big guy and I took some of it home as I could not fit it all in. Overall I was pleasantly surprised! Great service!
Wasnt anything special, took 20 minutes for some pretty basic stuff (the fries were clearly oven baked so that probably explains the long wait time). Im sure the coffee and drinks and maybe *some* of the food options are ok at least but I wasnt really impressed with what I had. Not really sure what theyre going for with the cut-outs of Chewbacca, Lauren Fishburne (dressed as Morpheus from The Matrix) and Rowan Atkinson (dressed like he was in Mr.Bean) are doing in the window. Not exactly a your typical mood setter
Amazing food, great service and fair prices. If youre looking for a queit place to enjoy comfort food, this is the place.

I come for lunch here pretty much daily and every time my order is perfection. They pretty much already know what I want as I walk in. Truly a gem of a place.

Really great breakfast or lunch spot. I came by accident and I ve found a new fav spot. The place Is definitely a hole in the wall, simple with no frivolous decor, total hidden gem. The coffee was fantastic, I got an oat latte (I m very particular about what oat milk is used and these guys hit the mark) and I got the breakfast bagel. The bagel was amazing. The price was very reasonable, this was under $20.
The food is very good. A great place to go for friendly conversation and comforting food. Kid-friendliness: The people are friendly and eager to help the kids make decisions with all the options.

With the high review ratings we looked forward to trying this place today though our experience was greatly disappointing! The wait time was very long considering we were the only ones there for a while. The soup came barely warm (I had it microwaved), the pulled pork panini had COOL pork with loads of overly mayonnaised coleslaw which, unfortunately, overpowered any flavour from the pork/BBQ sauce content. The young person making our food may have been new? Regardless, she could have used some help from the other 2 staff there to process our order more quickly & to make it more palatable. The Ruben sandwich was also a let-down :(
Oh my! What great soup! The little cafe looks like a hole in the wall. But it s cozy! Lovely service. Plus the soup was soooo good! A borscht plus bun. Lovely steaming hot plus steaming hot tea. And how smart to have cheese cake shooters! Just a nice little desert. I will be back!!!!

Nice & comfortable cafe. Super good homemade food & very good service. Location cant be beat, its right downtown Courtenay. There is seating on the patio in the rear & some seating outside on the sidewalk. You wont be disappointed.

Sweet little cafe with a wonderful, friendly owner. The seafood club on sourdough is a must, as is the open face tuna. Can t wait to pass through Courtenay again for lunch!
Wonderful owners run this small busy cafe. The cinnamon bun with cream cheese topping was the BEST EVER ! Great bagel sandwich choices with other food specials everyday. Popular with the locals. Recommended.

Fresh, fast and delicious! Seafood club is amazing! Homemade meals including soups, fresh cupcakes, cheesecakes, pastries and buns baked in house and a variety of other choices! Highly recommend!

Service was very friendly and the owners abided by the rules of Covid with hand sanitizer at the door and tables spaced out. Some of the best soup weve ever tasted! Would definitely visit this cafe again the next time were in Courtenay.
