December 17 had their turkey dinner, it was utterly amazing, possibly one of the best Ive had! Service was fantastic, love the atmosphere.

Food quality needs improvement, I ordered the beef dip with fries. The fries tasted freezer burnt in the middle, beef dip was dry old tasting beef, Au Jus was like warm brown water.

Went for the name that tune bingo night. Place was really busy and we were a larger group so service was a bit strained. Food was pretty good and the bingo was a lot of fun.

Super disappointing place an order for pick up while on an anniversary trip with my husband and when we got back to the hotel, our sides were missing. Our food was cold, so it s hard to say, if it was any good, but we did get a form of compensation, which was super great however, I feel like the front staff has to do better than this.

We love this place for the best Happy Hour around Friday was 1/2 price bottles of wine night. Can t beat that plus good food and atmosphere. You don t even go into the casino, thank goodness!

Gameroom atmosphere.. cause its attached to one. Fish and chips were good. Old fashion was standard. Staff was cool.

Wings on Thursday nights is kind of a hoax, advertised as games day wings 1/2 price, but you need to pay for side carrot&celery and blue cheese dip extra... thats unbelievable.

I did not eat. Atmosphere is good but in some spots in the casino it is very cold with air conditioning blowing on you. Also, if cash machines are not working there should be extra people working in the cash cage to help. Overall, great service.

The beef dip was so dry I ran out of dip on the first half. The bread felt day old, the waitress was barely seen, , ran out of water and coke, again, the waitress wasnt available for refill. NEVER AGAIN ! Food

Food, service, and atmosphere is all good but charging $12.00 for a 16oz pint in a small town (courtenay) including tip is outrageous. Ive edited this post from 1 star to 3 because I was pretty upset to see your price increases when I wrote the original review. You make so much money from all those old folks , I watch and see. The least you could do is have affordable food and drink prices. You used too! I used to like stopping in for a couple quick games and a couple pints, not anymore. Hope you fix it.

Food order came incomplete. Ordered tater tots saying we did not want french fries. Order came with fries. The food was brought to our table by a young woman who when told this was not what was ordered became rattled and distraught. She began crying and hugging a woman, who we assume was her mother. Maybe it was her first day. Next thing we know Steve the assistant manager or so he claimed comes to our table and says we can get out if we talk to his staff that way. Nothing was said other than we ordered tater tots not fries. Steve claimed he heard a member of our party be offensive to the young woman. Steve was nowhere near our table so it was clear he was outright lying. I don t want to speculate on his relationship to the young woman or her mother but it was clear that he was not interested in what we had to say. He just repeated that we couldn t speak to his staff likeTHAT or we could leave. I repeat, Steve was no where near our table when the alleged abuse occured. He was outright lying. We have been coming to Matches at least 4 times a month since before it was Matches however we will no longer be coming to this establishment.

Good happy hour and daily special prices.

The pizza was fine, calamari was super salty, so was our server. We felt we were inconveniencing her by being there. Who knows, maybe she had stuff going on. No complaints about the time it took, just what we felt was attitude. $14 for a 9oz glass of wine that was not 9oz, maybe 6. Manager reluctantly gave us a discount. Oh well, live and learn. Wont be back.

Food service slow--but food really good once we got it.

Unfortunately the vegan options are horrible. I 0/10 recommend the veggie burger. The patty is awful, I don t believe that anyone in the kitchen has actual taste tested it. Probably the worst veggie burger I ve ever had in my life and I ve been vegan for over a decade. Service was good.

Made a reservation and when we got there we were told we didn t have one and they had no room for us. The hostess told us she wasn t the one working when the reservation was made so basically not her problem Quite rude

Ive been here for work for 6 months and have tried ordering from almost every restaurant on skip the dishes and it 9 times out of 10 its always disappointing! Always missing items or just aweful! I honestly cant justify spending money or ordering from any other restaurant. Eat in, pick up or delivery, anything you order is delicious, hot, fresh and 100% ACURATE 100% of the time! Thanks for caring about what comes out of your kitchen, you guys are awesome!

Incredibly poor customer service

Incredibly poor costumer service. Waitress was giving our friend group an attitude for asking how long our food was gonna take.

The service was terrible. I placed an order and I got served after one hour, they never told me it would take so long and it wasnt even that busy. When my burger arrived it was so cold, I actually asked for a warm one and waited for another 30 minutes to be served again. Not even my drinks were served at the proper time. The waitress blamed, literally with the words: I said it was going to take one hour, you should have placed your order earlier, I placed my order the moment I got to the place. Never coming back there.

We waited to be seated, multiple servers walked by us and I considered leaving. My partner and I finally got seated, we ordered two cokes and the bartender handed us them and left. I ordered a burger with no onions and received a burger with onions, she took the burger back and told me itll take 5 min to make. 20ish min later, my partner finished eating and my meal finally arrived, I refused to take it as I got impatient. I was offered a free desert but I refused, my server was incredibly rude after. The manager never stepped in to fix this or offer anything.

Staff were nice but they took an hour just to give us 2 burgers and 1 pasta and it wasnt even busy. Food was okay, one thing that wasnt exceptable was that the pasta was snapped in half and the meatballs were dry. The burgers were okay but every pub should make decent burgers so it wasnt a big deal. Shouldve gone to Browns Social house instead.

Poutine: baked (from frozen) fries, tasteless gravy, real cheese curds. Tonic water: flat. Oban whisky: bottle open far too long. Caesar salad: drenched in super-sweet vinagrette. Steak: medium instead of medium-rare. Side salad: also drenched in super-sweet vinagrette. Service: good. (I received a discount after I complained, but tipped for good service.)

Had the Beef Dip w fries :) first and formost thank you for having PLAIN fries (hard to come by when eating out), the beef dip was perfectly made to order i am somewhat picky on done ness of meat, they made sure it was well done for me, one lil ity bity was it tasted to salty if i dipped sandwich into the aujus

It wasnt even 10pm and your employee follows us to the restaurant wanting ID and making sure we ask the servers if we can stay. IT WASNT 10PM YET! (And I am of legal age) Horrible customer service from your giant power tripper. Left because wow.

Went here as people are always raving about it very underrated it took 45 min for 2 apps and a salad asked for a pop that was flat had to sit at the bar as we were told that it was a 30 to 45 minute wait when I counted just what I could see 8 empty tables /booths as for service very poor disappointment as I mentioned

Went to watch the UFC fights last weekend. Service was friendly, however, I ordered the steak sandwich, medium with no mushrooms. Came with mushrooms and picked them off. I then was woken up a few hours later in the middle of the night vomiting, among other things Clearly food poisoning as this was the only food I had consumed that day out of the norm. Be careful, their quality control seems to be lacking.

Came here with three friends for UFC fight night and it was a terrible mistake. Although my friends enjoyed the food, mine and my partners dishes were unappetizing. I would not recommend the lettuce wraps, and the steak sandwich gave my partner food poisoning. The service was also not great; the waiter got our order wrong and made it out to be our fault (I asked for an appetizer for my boyfriend and I and she brought us each our own). Everyones food was also brought out very far apart. One of my friends received his main before the rest of us even had our aps (he ordered aps and a main). For me it was not a great experience. The only thing I enjoyed was the free pool.

We had a great night here with Dillon! The atmosphere is amazing and they have a great selection of wine too!

I travel to Courtenay infrequently and just love the area. I stayed at the new hotel, Holiday Inn Express and noted Match Eatery across the street. The staff were very customer friendly from being greeted to being seated at the bar. I chose to order a takeout meal of the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich which the bartender recommended. I usually try burgers at locations that I have never been to and usually they are prepared in a large square takeout container. Well this chicken sandwich is large and described as being crispy but unfortunately the chef stuffed it into one of those foil pouches. This method compressed the sandwich and steamed it prior to getting back to my room. I opened my takeout bag to find a very small amount of sweet potato fries, (portion control?) and a soggy handheld at $17.75. Thank you B

Absolutely incredible in every regard; staff were super friendly and helpful at every step, and the food was positively impressive; truly an artist created the menu and I would kill for the quality of food served here, especially at these prices. Overall Ive never had such a positive experience with a business as a whole and cant wait to plan my next trip to the area, hopefully closer to this superb location.

Not your normal restaurant attached to a casino. The best setting is in the atrium. The menu is inventive and tasty. The blacken tuna on spagatini was especially good.

It took 45 minutes to get meal. Food was cold. People at convention mentioned Food was poor but it was close so thought I would give it a try. Was not a good discussion.

Waited over 2 hours for food !!! We had a group of 13 last night and ordered our food at 7pm. By 9.15 only 3 of our group had their meals. We all ordered pizzas, pastas & fish n chips . All pretty easy stuff for a kitchen to handle. By 9.15 we told them to cancel our food. Manager gave us every excuse under the sun . Including it had to do with the size of the group and they shouldn t take groups that size . But the kicker is that it was the same manger who seated us and arranged the table earlier in the evening .. We watched tables of 4 and 6 get seated after us, meals delivered and left before anything was delivered to us. Then just as we were about to walk out at 9.30 . Bang all the food appears. Not a great way to run a restaurant. It s a big place, they do corporate events and large gatherings for Xmas parties and game nights - yet 13 people at one table is too much for their small kitchen to handle. Not a great experience at all and have definitely lost a bunch of local customers

Food was good, had the seared tuna, quite enjoyed it. Service was very poor, I d chalk it up to staffing but at one point I had to go find a staff member and they were all hiding in the kitchen. Server was pleasant enough just absent.

Went in because I had a gift card. Specifically said I had a gift card before sitting down. Ate my food and went to pay and was told the gift card doesnt work for my food. I want my money back.

Once again the best bartender in town, Jeff Stickler, is keeping this place rocking on Super Bowl Sunday despite the fact he s supposed to be off today. And what a party atmosphere it is but with all COVID-19 protocols firmly in place. That s a given & thanks once again to Jeff for ALWAYS making the regulars feel like they matter!

Adequate service, disgusting nachos. I ve not once ever had nachos made with a sauce rather than actual cheese. What s more is that instead of just using real queso, the sauce was poorly made from scratch resulting in a gloopy grainy texture and bland taste that barely resembled cheese at all. Curiously, a small number of tortilla chips did include an extremely light dusting of real cheese, perhaps to defend against any complaints of a lack thereof. So we ve established there *was* cheese available, yet the cook decided to make what looked and tasted like a 7/11 meal. Nachos are universally understood to be made with real cheese. Why are you making it with a suspicious grainy sauce? Also, instead of lining the nacho plate with a flour tortilla, you could instead redirect that money to buy more actual cheese. Won t be returning. Do not pay $19 for nachos that this restaurant is trying to cut corners on.

Have been here a few times and found the staff nice and friendly but I dont think I will return after being insulated at the front door by the staff checking IDs and covid passports. Its too bad they were like that I dine out alot and wont be back. The woman at rhe front door shouldnt be in contact with the customers.

Amazing Burgers.

The Server was great. We had to wait an hour for the food and with 3 kids under 9yrs old and on Mothers Day we almost pulled the plug and left. We wont be back with the family.

Awesome evening at Match. Food was great, drinks were perfect and the server was completely awesome! If you decide on an evening at Match, all of the food was delicious. I ordered the pepperoni pizza and it has a honey glaze on the crust, which was excellent. Our Server, Nana, was absolutely perfect, friendly and professional. Nana rounded off a great meal and drinks for us.

Went in to watch the fights service was great the steak was cold when asked to fix it was given plate back with cold sides and a slightly warmed up steak needless to say the kitchen staff need to get there things together can t say I d jump to go back for food the nachos on the other hand they are great

Very satisfied. Even while mast places are offering a reduced menu,. The Match Eatery has a full menu and the choices were not only fun to read, but expansive in options. The waitress we had was super attentive and the meal arrived quickly and hot. The Covid19 procedures were adequate. Would recommend and will be back.

My husband and I have been enjoying Matches for a long time. We love the food, the staff, the atmosphere and the great service! It never disappoints.... until tonight! Tonight we went out after a spa day and decided to treat ourselves to a stress free evening and have the cooking done for us. Our server literally did the BARE MINIMUM while every other servers were running around with their heads chopped off and working non-stop. Other servers were checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed before our own server did! She was brutal. Having worked in the hospitality industry, my husband remarked at how awful our server was. When she brought us our food, my meal was cold and the vegetables were not cooked. My husband ordered the chicken burger and it was so greasy he could barely eat it. He ended up having to go wash his hands before he finished his meal because his hands were so greasy!. Soon after, he started to feel ill from the heavy/overuse use of oil. It was gross. I ordered the cajun chicken which is usually amazing. Tonight, it was gross. Too much oil, the chicken had a lot of fat on it, and the vegetables were cold and uncooked. This was a Saturday fight night and we were looking forward to a fun evening and instead, it turned out to be one of our worst experiences we have had at Matches. We wont be returning anytime soon.

Lots of great things I can say about this place for example, food was amazing, staff was well dressed and well mannered, washrooms where clean, and lots of options for entertainment! This restaurant had a live band playing with lots of seating, tvs and even a pool table. Restaurant also was connected to the Comox casino for your gambling needs Vegetarian options: Had lots of options food and drink wise Parking: Nice and close to front door and exit, approximately 50 spots Kid-friendliness: Lots of seating and kid friendly pictures around Wheelchair accessibility: Close to entrance and exit with about 10 spots

Great place to watch the Canada-Belgium World Cup match. Great TV and audio setup. Decent beer selection but could use better local taps. Unfortunately the reason that Belgium scored against Canada was the atrocity of a poutine I was served. Dry, melted cheese instead of cheese curds, and almost no gravy! It was even served with ketchup?! Is that the restaurant acknowledging that their poutine is dry? We also sent back a tasteless, oily, bland pasta dish. 5* for the atmosphere, beers, and service 2* for the food Would be back but I ll hit up A&W beforehand

I stopped in to grab a bite to eat and I watch a bit of the hockey game. The entire experience was delightful - the staff (and patrons actually) were friendly and competent. As mentioned in other reviews, the staff had a diligent approach to managing covid protocols and making me feel comfortable - cleaning, masks and separations were some of the best I ve seen without sacrificing a good pub experience. The Canucks game was interesting enough but my attention soon focused to the brier game between Quebec and NONT, where I couldn t get my eyes off the Quebec second, who looks like a cross between Frankie MacDonald and Justin Bieber. Big triple in the third end to snuff any potential threats, I had the Car Hop sliders appetizer and hot wings. The sliders were the bomb, and hit the spot, I d go without wings next time they were so good. I realize Match is a chain but they do have some local beers on tap, leading me to state that in the Courtenay area it s a recommended stop to put into your rotation for a bite to eat and to watch a little curling

I ordered the poutine, you get quite a bit for the price. The soda is a pretty good deal aswell. The wait staff was friendly although the food took a little bit to make.

Ordered delivery through Skip for my mom on Mothers Day. The only mistake was ordering through Skip. If I lived local, I would have just picked up. Thanks for the great customer service!!! I hear the food is great and will be sure to stop in personally once we are able to travel again.

It was better last summer.

Food was underwhelming when we came some food under seasoned, some was over seasoned. Most was over cooked, but came in a month before the food was good. So it could of just been a off night. Every time Ive gone servers have been nice.

We picked this place out of Google maps recommended places and it was a fantastic choice. Kid friendly, reasonable prices, delicious food, friendly staff! Be sure to check their Happy hour specials!

Busy night, and we were a large group so it was expected that we d have a bit of a wait. But no! I always had a full glass, food came promptly and everything ran smoothly! It was mine and my husbands first visit and we are looking forward to trying the happy hour menu before some blackjack in the future :)

Staff are friendly, food is good. They have daily specials and happy hour twice a day. They have UFC sometimes on the TVs but most times its seasonal sports. Fair selection of beers on tap and a small craft cocktail selection as well.

I cannot say enough about this venue we planned my sisters 50th birthday here and they offered us an amazing spot outside in the heated patio area which we were really looking forward to using but due to inclement weather and a severe snowstorm which happened on 15 January they had to move us into a warmer spot inside the restaurant they were so accommodating and so amazing. I highly recommend this venue for work functions and special parties ...the general manager was incredible and created a specialized menu for our friends to order from. And the bartender and server were fantastic... Getting our drinks and our meals out in record time. All the meal options were fantastic and tasty ... we had six different meals offered to us under a selected menu which incorporated all the different needs for all the various dietary types of people that we had at the party. Big shout to their chef!

Enjoy going here to watch UFC fights but have called to make a reservation for two people (not fussy, at the bar, at a table, wherever) and have been told that reservations are not accepted. Showed up today, only to be turned away from sitting at the bar because there was a reservation...? This is very confusing as we called to make a reservation and were told they were not accepted. We were told the reservation was for a staff member. Okay, Im sure the staff member receives a discounted rate but we are full price paying customers that are being turned away for a staff member. We were finally able to get a table only to be told we could not exit through the main door to use the washroom (the in restaurant washrooms had a 10 person line up) but had to walk around outside the building. The staff are amazing, never had anything but amazing service but feel like every time we come here, its a battle to get through the management to get a table. Do you want local customers or not because Im getting the impression that managements answer is NO.

We came in on a Wednesday to meet friends we had not seen forever. ...quite busy! Happy hour prices are great. $5 draft and half price wine. Weds is Pasta night. I had the rigatoni which was pretty good, not a huge serving but quite rich. Delicious fresh dense bread...really nice. Not gourmet food but you arent paying gourmet prices either. Glad to see they have Ace Brewing products. One of our friends had the poutine which she loved. A huge serving. Our server was Ashley who we really liked...a bit on the sassy side. She gave me a hard time because I didnt eat all my rigatoni...all in good fun. Will definitely be back soon!

Really good! We had never visited this place before. We decided to try it on a whim and it paid off huge. I was expecting garbage food and service because its in a casino but the service was fast and friendly and the food was excellent for the prices. The prices were not high, definitely affordable for the fare they offered and they offer hugely discounted theme days where you can get some items for under 50% of the original price. It took a standard amount of time to receive our food and was quiet but the quality of it was worth the wait. Weve yet to try it when there are packed tables but otherwise it was a fantastic experience and well be back.

Great happy hour

Seriously good. Well worth the long drive from our hometown. Excellent, hot, delicious comfort food. Desert? What can i say...i know, yuuuuum!Wonderful service from Dylan. Hes an absolute gem. All round great experience.

How did I never know this place existed? It was great. Reasonably priced. Looks newly renovated, patio seating available, minors permitted in restaurant, friendly staff, strict attention to cleanliness/hygiene. Stupid menu names for standard food items, but the Calamari, Beef Dip, and Yam Fries were all awesome.

lovely atmosphere & good service

Nachos were weird with processed cheese. The ribs were meh (pop wont order again) the beef dip was seriously dried out, way over cooked, and not edible. The beer was good.. reply to Owner: NO we wont be back.. The meal means make or break, and the meal wasnt worth returning for.. The beer was good, because it was a Commercial Brewery.. You dont carry local beer, so even returning for a beer aint gonna happen.

Good place for a happy hr cocktail and appy. Had a big pretzel. Bueno. Try it. Plenty big screens for sunday football.

First time in restaurant since covid 19

Good sized menu, good amount of food for cost. The calamari wasnt very flavourful and the dip was super watery. Other than that their happy hour (hours) menu is quite affordable and the drinks are good. The staff are always friendly as well! Overall an enjoyable place to dine

Food here is surprisingly good. Hopefully after COVID and everything goes back to normal they will continue to have good food :)

came here a while ago for my sons birthday and the food was amazing!....ordered take out tonight and it was super delicious!....ill be dining in again very soon!....keep up the good work!
