Plates, even though theyre only open from 9 to 3 or something, they have great food and wonderful waitresses and cooks. Its got a very friendly environment and very well rounded experience...

Pros: Food was good, reasonable prices and great service Cons: limited menu crappy parking We will definitely return again. I am VERY picky and judgmental when dining out. I tip well when earned and this place deserved our 35% Parking: Have to park behind the restaurant in the hotel parking. Not very handicapped accessible.

I was taken there by locals. They were clearly understaffed and during lunch hours we had to wait about 10-15 min for a waitress to show up and get the order. Food was quite average. This place is eatery as it s called. Myriad of license plates on the wall was quite interesting that s where eatery gets its name from.

Great place for first date

My family and I went to Plates on Aug 26th, I stood inside at the seat yourself sign for 8 minutes with 4 different staff members walking by me numerous times (within 2-3 feet of me) without acknowledgement. They were clearly busy, however a quick hello, I ll be right with you would have been appreciated. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere. I may try again in the future, but so far not a great experience at all.

First time we have eaten at plates. It was very good and will most likely be back the next time we are in town.

Went for breakfast. Got the avocado toast and enjoyed it. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Delicious food, excellent service and atmosphere! They offer the traditional and also healthier options, both delicious. Staff is fabulous and friendly, makes for a great experience. This is our go-to for breakfast, lunch and dinner when we travel to Comox.

I have been here a lot in the past (also 2 days ago) all the food and everything is AMAZING! (since who made plates is in my family) I love all the choices you can choose from great cooks the food is so good even if im full IM STILL EATING! Kid-friendliness: Its VERY Kid friendly with all sorts of stuff, they did have a play area for kids but they had to put those stuff away: COVID-19. I have been here a lot, dinner, lunch, breakfast, meetings (with parent) but once in a while. everything is very good for kids to come.

Great family dining

Great atmosphere, good food, and most importantly, spotless. We really appreciated the hardworking waitress who cleaned the tables, seats, condiment stations and everything else within reach. It may seem odd to focus on cleanliness but having a clean restaurant seems to be a thing of the past as it is rare to walk into an establishment without crumbs on the floor, a dirty bench seat or a sticky table. Pride in presentation is old fashioned I guess. In any case, delicious eggs benny with real ham--not shaved deli meat. A bit on the pricy side, but thats life at restaurants these days. The waitress also did a fantastic job of handling all the tables in the place with professionalism and ease--something else that seems rare.

We visit your establishment about twice a month and have always had a good experience. Today, was completely different. After 35 mins I asked to speak to the manager and asked why we were not made aware of the long wait for food due to the fact of a large party. We would have moved on and visited you again in the near future; no harm no foul. She said that she also did not know, and I find that odd not to be aware of the long wait for food for any guests arriving after the large party. I felt she could offered a percentage at least off our order. Our order was delivered to our table by the manager 5 mins after I spoke to her. We were trying to enjoy our long awaited meal only to be disturbed by our waitress three times asking us if we wanted more coffee, yet again, and how was everything. We had been asked twice or three times before our food, and we declined and my husband told her he only had one cup, and my cup was half filled. It was just kind of bizarre, never had we experienced that kind of harassment from a waitress before. We got up and let them know that we were leaving and the unpleasant experience with our waitress. Plenty of other restaurants to visit in our beautiful community.

Great old school restaurant with really friendly server and the food came up fast. Had the breakfast quesadillas and they were perfect Parking: Lots of spots and its right off the main drag

So basically the other day I got pretty liquored and showed up here in the morning. I wasn t feeling great I ll be honest but the literal instant I lay eyes on that hollandaise sauce I usain bolted to the men s room and puked my guts out. Full drooling finger banging throat the works. After sitting on the car for a bit I went back inside with the goal to see my pals and after one glance to the food on the table I quickly strode to the washroom again for round two. Anyway the morale of the story is not even Borats neighbour would think highly of the food and he can t even afford a clock radio.

Wonderful servers, tasty food, quick service. Would highly recommend the eatery to all--everyone in the family will find good offerings!

The owners are cheap and lazy. How do you get half sausage and half bacon on your order at a RESTAURANT?? Id say get with the time, but its just a sign of the time. Almost always great service except for that one server thats worried about The Rules... Id rather get a Costco membership for their $1.50 hot dogs then support the owners and their breakfast dictatorship

Prejudice don t go there if you re any colour other than white just had to leave due to waitress giving ugly looks and rude comments towards my family. Not kid friendly apparently unless it s just my kids.

Waitress was cheerful, unfortunately a few details that caused indifferences or policies left a negative atmosphere between a staff member and customer. Having a smile on your face while making a customer uncomfortable and treated an inconvenience.

Used to love this place, its been around forever but the last few visits were just okay and the prices were high, understandable given the building, staffing levels, etc but, high.

Not overly pleased with the experience my family and I had today. Upon arrival it wasn t terribly busy. The employee who was responsible for seating us said she was going to ask another party if it was okay to seat us at the table beside them because they were close together.. a bit odd considering you re choosing to eat at a public establishment & there was multiple other tables that could have accommodated our group of 5 comfortably. Once seated, our server seemed a bit rushed to get our order in because there was a big table behind us. As we were waiting for our food, my mom had mentioned there was water dripping onto her and decided to let the server know there might be a bit of a leak in the roof, to which she responded oh we know that s why we don t like seating people here but we were seated there and it wasn t brought up at all that this may happen? Our food was brought over, my hash brown portion was quite disappointing to say the least, especially when factoring in the cost of the meal, you would expect more than about 10 potato cubes and couple crispy scraps. My moms meal ended up having hair in it, it was brought up and remade promptly, but our server mentioned she would be removing it from the bill. We completed our meals and had our bills brought over to see that the meal with hair was only comped by 50%. When brought up to our server she says my supervisor said we can only do 50% which is fine, but if you don t have authority to make those calls, don t mislead a customer by saying you re going to do something you re not sure about. Also surprised about the price of a large soda served to you in a small cup being $4 and not once was a refill of any sort offered on anything other than coffee. This used to be a great place for breakfast, but i m not certain I will choose to come back.

We have been going to Plates for decades, it is our go-to for brunch. The food tastes great, homemade and fresh. The portions are generous and pricing very fair. Service is very good even when they hit peak brunch rush on weekends, the wait staff is quick to refill coffees and kitchen is very efficient. The atmosphere is very original. Lots of decor to look at while you wait - they collect old license plates (thus, the name) and have a vintage gas pump on display. Parking: Parking can get a little tight during peak brunch hours, especially if large parties linger to chat after they eat. Its good to plan ahead and be early or late rather than than arriving in the middle of the Sunday church crew Otherwise its a large lot with easy access

Foods always as expected, and the service is great! Especially this trip as we shared some laughs.

Gluten free options are not gluten free. All done in the same fryer/toaster etc. Showed up because advertised, realized my wife could not eat there and had to paid $7.88 for two coffees that were placed down before we left. Not a fair move especially after knowing we had to leave Not recommend for people with coeliac disease.

Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible parking and access.

Food was great, as expected prices, great environment! Was very busy. Reason for two starts is upon going to pay, my partner checked the bill just to confirm it was the correct amount , Georgitia or Georgita took this as us being confused by the tip amount buttons and said without any other reason pick one of the numbers while staring down with both eyes at the machine the entire interaction. Extremely rude to react in that way and to use the social pressure by locking eyes with the machine like she was in a staring contest after handing over the tip option.

A good no frills diner in Courtenay. Big menu with all sorts of items youd expect from a diner. My favs are the various hashes. Delicious and the price is right. Seems like one of the few spots that are keeping their price below the $20/meal mark.

My little family and I enjoyed a late lunch and while the clubhouses with fries or Caesar salad were amazing; the kids version of chicken strips were lacking severely. Too thin. Barely any chicken and heavily spiced and battered for small children. I hope you take this criticism to improve them as my kids were disappointed especially when they mentioned they just wanted nuggets and they were no where near strips or that.

Came on a Wednesday afternoon and ordered the breakfast panini w/ fries and the French toast w/ apple sauce. Both were delicious and the server was very polite and accommodating! Im definitely coming back here in the future when I come to the island

Service is just extremely extremely slow. There was a 20 minute wait to be seated and then an additional 30 minute wait for our food and our drinks also took quite a while to come out. They had an entire section full of open seats that they didnt open even though there was a line up out the door for people to be seated. We ordered a Caesar and a mimosa and the Drinks were super average but the food was very good! Two waitresses specifically were super personable which helped with the wait. If you dont mind waiting about an hour for food and JUST want food then this is a great place. Also located in a solid area as well.

We were looking for a family friendly restaurant en route from the Comox airport to Parksville. We chose Plates and are so happy we did. My chicken finder connoisseur son loved the fingers and fries, my daughter devoured the cheese burger, I really enjoyed their famous Reuben and my trying to be vegetarian husband was extremely happy with his vegetable quesadilla with guac . Great classic diner atmosphere! The food was very fresh, high quality ingredients and generous portions. We will be back! Going to do breakfast next time.

Used to be our favourite place to go. Recently they changed it so your entire party has to be in the waiting area before you are put on a wait list for a table. After 40 minutes of waiting while they had 20+ empty tables we left and have never been back. Super disappointed in the new way they are running the place. They are missing the hospitality and customer service piece of running a restaurant.

Waited with older lady no chairs to sit and open tables when asked they said they couldn t seat us there because they were rotating table and if we sat while we waited they would need to sanitize the seats- very dissatisfied:(

I usually enjoy coming here when Im in the Valley but I just went and four out of our party of five were present to be seated, but they would only sit us when all five were present. Kind of insane

I had such a great experience here! I had a difficult appointment right before I came here for brunch. The server, George, was fantastic. She was attentive without hovering. I received my drinks promptly. She answered all of my questions and didnt even look frustrated. She was kind and knowledgeable. I ordered the original eggs Benedict, medium poached. BETTER THAN IT HAD ANY RIGHT TO BE!! The hollandaise was perfection, seriously. I cannot stress enough how difficult it is to impress me with hollandaise. So many restaurants call it in and do a box or bag. Not this place, hand made and delicious. And the ham! I dont know if it was smoked or something but the flavor complimented the entire dish, and I could eat it on its own. Hash browns were good as well. I am so looking forward to coming back with my family. Parking: Next to the hotel

Had a breakfast made with hashbrowns that were mouldy . They didnt ask us how our meal was so we just paid and I thought Id let them know that I couldnt finish it because it tasted mouldy . Than she said sorry yes there was another customer that complained about that as well !! And didnt offer to refund my meal she just said sorry and went about her business

A staple in courtenay

Very disappointed in the service of the staff. We are from Grande Prairie Alberta. Came to the island for one day to visit friends. Called ahead and asked what the latest was we could come in to eat, as we were eating and heading back to the ferry same day. They told us as long as we ordered by 5 minutes to 3:00 we would be totally fine. We arrived at 2:30 to a girl who informed us they closed in 30 minutes. We let her know we had called in and they told us as long as we ordered by 3:00 we were fine to eat in. The girl never smiled at us once. Never offered refills on coffee. Was very rude the entire time. And at 3:30 came and told us the entire staff was waiting on us to leave. While we were eating they were vacuuming right by our table. The whole experience was very disappointing as we literally drove to island to see our friends for one day and we were looking forward to a nice lunch out and these girls were talking about us very obviously and being extremely rude. I definitely do not recommend eating at this place.

A big rave to plates eatery for cancelling Canada day and supporting the every child matters movement! The food here is delicious and the staff are friendly and attentive, will 100% eat here again.

Fantastic breakfast for diner style atmosphere and food. Good quality. I had the veggie Omelette and it was stuffed with veggies. Came with hashbrowns cooked perfectly and seasoned well and side of toast with homemade jam. Service was also excellent. Hardworking and very friendly. Would definitely recommend and come back again and again.

Truly an amazing experience, the food here feels home made and tastes delicious! Me and the girlfriend dined here as we re on vacation from the mainland and let me tell you. If your visiting or even a local this place is hands down one of and if not the best breakfast your ever gonna have! Yes it s simple but that s the point of this place simple and yet delicious and warms your heart at the same time. 10 out of 10

Everything you want in a dinner

The automotive decor was fun, the family enjoyed their food and the server was friendly. My burger patty looked made in house and the veggies were very fresh topping it. We stopped in one day but they were closed to give the staff a day off, very understandable in todays world, glad we tried again.
