We ordered the gangster roll and the dragon roll. Very similiar in looks and flavors. Both were good but confusingly similar. We were assured they were as we ordered.
Just awesome all around. The food presentation is tremendous, over the top and service from the owner and Hayden the lovely Vietnamese girl is so efficient. Great value for the quality of food and service from this small local restaurant!

Huge language barrier, check your take out orders before leaving. A wild salmon and tuna combo request. Nigiri is farmed salmon, roll is wild salmon. Missing wasabi a couple times, added sauce to roll when asked no sauce. Small issues but it’s a restaurant, I order what I want.
We stopped in for a late lunch November 2023. Place is small and in a grouping of other businesses. The menu has lots of choice besides sushi. Their menus is also posted online. Started with tea, which was nice. I had the assorted tempura with prawns and vegetables with side of miso soup and my hubby had Tropical teriyaki bowl which included miso soup to start. Both were very good! Small cafe restaurant with not too many tables, and we saw some people arriving to do take out. Overall atmosphere was pleasant as was our server. We would definitely go back again.
Unreal. The best sushi I've ever had in the most unassuming location. Don't miss this gem! The staff are wonderful. A small but lovely place and the food presentation is exquisite. I can't wait to go back!
Food is delicious! Fairly priced. Made the drive from Nanaimo To Courtney and it was well worth the drive!!
Update: I decided to try this out after my last visit maybe 6 years ago. The place kind of went downhill, the service is great! BUT the food quality and taste has drastically decline. I got a chicken Bento and it seems like premade chicken that was coated with little flavoring and the bed of veggies it comes with seems like frozen stuff you'd get from superstore and soy sauce just was added. Sushi was ok, but again lacking flavor. Only tatsey thing was the tempura. They seem to cultivate western bland white people food taste as it no pong is authentic and it's one of the more expensive Japanese restaurants in the area. Again service was very good and friendly, but the food quality has to develop. Old review: So delicious! Everything here is great! Price is reasonable service is decent. Nice and calm atmosphere.

Tasty and not over priced like most. Good fresh hot food. Good size dining room for gatherings- reserve for groups of 10+. Friendly service.
Only gave 3 stars due to cleanliness. Washrooms are filty. Clutter in hallways. Sushi was fresh and delicious. And music on point! Busy take out spot. Parking: Safe. Lots of spots to park.
Lunch date with my wife. We are sushi lovers. I ve had a couple good meals here but today was THE worst sushi I have ever had. The Ugly Truth roll had cheap cheddar and mozzarella cheese sprinkled all over it and melted with a torch.. the scallops had no flavour under the cheese. The roll was tiny and tasted horrible, of plastic burnt cheese. The waitress had zero concern for my expression of dissatisfaction and disappointment. The assorted tempura was edible but soggy, the mushroom should have been cut in half before it was fried. I won t be going back.
This is Courtenays best Sushi place. They are always fast and always friendly.
My go to sushi spot. I enjoy ordering my usual favourites or trying something new.

Unfortunately the salmon that was used on top of one of my rolls was extremely fishy and unbearable. I understand that things cannot always be fresh but... that salmon was quite off.
Mango prawns are my faves here.

Ordered 2 chicken bento boxes they were very tasty and fresh a nice variety of items. The portions were very good it was a filling meal I will definitely be back in the future.
Honestly was super disappointed in their sashimi. Was not up to par and wouldn t order it again. Sushi Jo is amazing, go there if you want good sushi!

I dont know what happened but who puts processed cheese slices in sushi roles.. i bought a tray to bring to my work place and share.. all my co-workers where shocked and i wont go back or recommend Osaka. The staff of Osaka are very nice. And i have enjoyed their food, but in late i feel they are cutting corners and the quality of sushi has gone down hill.

Met friends there for dinner, none of us had previously eaten at this restaurant. It is a humble place, with simple decor, but dont underestimate. There is a vast selection on the menu. We ordered a Tray of vegetable rolls and a Happy Tray as well, then extra Yam Tempura rolls. Excellent food, Fairly priced, Prompt and friendly service. Too bad we were visiting, and dont live in the area - otherwise we would become regulars.

Food is okay, decor is a madly thrown Together, hideous mix of thrift store art and unkept plants with strings of Christmas lights, some working, others not. Only one server on a Friday night, we waited quite a while, and meals came 15 minutes apart. Not coming back!
My son took me here for lunch a while back. This place had amazing food. They were short staffed but still kept the grove going! During these hard times where every place has no staff.. these guys made it happen! Thank you for staying open.. and thank you for great food! I also love the decor! It made me feel very comfortable, and welcome! :)
Staff were pleasant and sushi was tasty, however the portion sizes left a lot to be desired. I ordered a sushi combo, my husband two special rolls for dinner. We finished our meals still hungry. We expected more for the price of meals.

Very fresh sashimi, tuna and sockeye were generous portions that melted in your mouth. Bento was great value, enough for me to get two meals. Side salad was very nice, lots of extra toppings and side sunomono even had baby shrimp! Will be back! Thanks for a delicious lunch!
This place was very accommodating when I was in a rush and the sushi was very high quality. Best Toro I have had since moving to the island.

We eat here all the time. Take out. Always the box meals. Great sashimi and nigiri. Its always delicious, plentiful and within the price point of Comox. The family that runs it are very very nice.

Awesome food
We come here for lunch quite often so we decided to order a sushi platter for New Years Eve. We picked a la carte to get exactly what we wanted. It was really good and very fresh tasting.

They gave us green tea before we finished looking at the menu and then brought edamame to the table as soon as we had ordered! Busy, small restaurant. Seemed to do a decent amount of take out. When they messed up a take out order, I saw her bring the guy tea as well. Very lovely service. Food was good, not earth shattering, portions were decent sized.

When you order food everyone at the table should get their food....not have one person get their food and the other person waits....and ends up getting their food just before we decide to leave. No discount for the lack of service. A Pretty Disappointing restaurant.

I would tell you how good the food was, but we sat inside an almost empty restaurant for 15 minutes without even being offered water, let alone having our food order taken. You can only make eye contact so many times before you just admit defeat, swipe left and leave.

This joint is so jammin goodness gracious we love it so hard. My fam-damily has probably eaten these food one million and forty times its good. Moderate price for cant-go-wrong sushi flavors. All the time eating cant go wrong good times lovely grinds except dont go there at 2pm because they are closed for siesta hours

My daughter refuses to get sushi anywhere else!
On our first visit we only chose it due to the opening hours being earlier than other joints nearby. But boy were we delighted by how good the food was here! Miso soup was a little on the bland side but the sushi rice is perfectly seasoned and the tempura appetizer was so light and crispy! We returned for a second time the very next day lol. Will definitely stop by again next time we are on the island!

Pretty tasty food, very clean venue, but some of the slowest service I ve ever experienced at a sushi restaurant. Took them 20 minutes just to bring us water (and even then we had to stop a waiter and ask), and despite there only being two of us our orders arrived almost a full 10 minutes apart from each other. Prices may have been fair with decent service but with how poor it was it felt overpriced. Definitely far better choices to dine at in the valley.
honesty i didn t think a cheese slice was a legitimate kraft single. i m appalled. i thought it meant thin slice of any other kind of cheese. that s ridiculous. they should specify American cheese or literally processed cheese i bet i m not the first to be utterly disgusted and actually upset. why would you even label it like that. i m appalled and will not be coming back which sucks because the lady s were super nice and the service was great. just read really well and don t assume they have regular sushi because this ,i state again, is ridiculous

This was the first restaurant I have ever been to where the waitress told us what we wanted instead of getting us what we ordered. We ordered and she corrected us and told us we would prefer something else instead and ordered that for us, completely ignoring our requests. My Japanese friend was shocked at how rude the staff were to the customers when speaking Japanese. There was a dead fruit fly in the soy sauce bottle on our table. The food wasnt bad - definitely not the best Ive had but no where near the worst either - but the service killed it for us. We wont be back.
Recently waited over an hour for service. Quality not the same as earlier reviews. 3 couples walked out while we waited.
The staff are friendly and the sushi is really good and very fresh. Prices are on par with other sushi restaurants.

Really surprised with this place, was expecting a lot more based on reviews. Food is very over priced, fish quality is fair but prices arent. Service was terrible, tables where dirty. One place checked off the list under will not return.

The food here is sensational. The shot Ali roll is delightful, the food came quickly and the service was perfect. I will definitely go here again. The prices are not cheap but not outrageous. Well worth it

I had lunch with my brother. It was really clean environment and especially the server seems owners wife was so friendly. The foods was exelent. I strongly suggest to visit if you are in courtney.
Some of the best sushi we have ever had. Excellent service and pricing. Beautiful presentation and very flavourful and very fresh. Perfect temperature for each different type of sushi we ordered. We were served very quickly despite showing up close to closing time. We are from Alberta so maybe our experience is tainted because we are not from close to the ocean and there is generally better sushi on Vancouver Island than in Alberta, but we were so happy with our experience at Osaka. Thank you Osaka Sushi.

Best Sushi in town!!! The food is authentic and prepared perfect. a real treat! Their Goma-ae is so refreshing and the Osaka roll and the spicy Ichi roll are my favorites. Service is friendly and attentive. Mmmm craving their sushi right now writing this!! haha
What is the point of being a take out based sushi restaurant when you never answer your phone. I have called different days, different times and many times. NEVER GET MY CALL ANSWERED! Food is great if you can actually speak with someone to order....

Not the same after the renovation. Not sure if the people who own Domo bought it, but the food is nowhere near as good as it used to be, and just order at the counter. Doesnt have the same feel in the restaurant either.Kobo is really the only good place left in the valley for good sushi now.

The food is excellent! The staff are very friendly! Great atmosphere .. One of my favourite restaurants. Upon one visit we were very politely asked if we would mind moving to another table in order to accommodate a family. It was nothing for us to move as we had only just sat down, so we did happily. The staff very quickly brought out complimentary food in appreciation. A big plus for me when going out for food is having attentive service without being intrusive or neglectful. The service here is amazing, you can really tell the staff care and take pride in there buisness. This place rocks!!!
The sashimi was good, as was the miso soup...but the sushi...wow, not good at all...it was poorly proportioned, and the texture of the rice/Nori was all off. The ingredients of my rolls just didnt seem fresh at all. will go back for sure (only because Im cheap), but Ill never order the sushi again..sticking with the heaping slabs of sashimi from now on.
