1737 Cowichan Bay Rd, Cowichan Bay, BC V0R 1N0, Canada
Leeward Coastal Cafe is Cowichan Bay's newest waterfront destination beside True Grain Organic Craft Bakery in the heart of Cowichan Bay Village. We serve a wide assortment of delicious, locally sourced food & beverages including: - locally roasted organic fair trade coffee & specialty drinks - breakfast/lunch sandwiches on True Grain bread. - Local Ham & Organic Cheddar Cheese Croissant - freshly baked True Grain pastries - fine selection of Westholme teas
We just had a wonderful afternoon at Leeward decorating cookies for Christmas with Mrs. Clause and the staff. What a wonderful place and such friendly staff. Thank you for having us! My daughters loved it!
It's a bit of a Cowichan Bay tourist institution, attached to an excellent bakery, and, at busy times, becomes a bit of a machine for processing customers. You can have a great experience here. My grumble is about how few vegan options they offer, when it would be so easy to offer so much more. Worse, there's a sign saying "Ask us about vegan options", so you wait in a long queue only to be told "Yeah we don't really have much".
No gluten free food. Great coffee. Wonderful view. Good music.
Cowichan Bay is in itself a beautiful stopping point, with excellent waterfront views. The Leeward Cafe is connected to the world-renowned True Grain Cowichan Bay Euro style bakery. Great stop for coffee and fresh baked goods or a full lunch. Enjoy the waterfront atmosphere with friends, family, or chat with someone new. Summer time there is an open deck, we'll worth a stop. As a local, I certainly go back very regularly.....enjoy
I was so excited to come here since I found the cafe. I ordered egg salad croissant sandwich and london fog. I asked plate for sandwich but staff told me they serve everythings with to go container, drink as well. That made me disappointed. I'd like to have my coffee or tea with actual cup especially while staying in the Cafe. It does make lack of tastes. Also waste of containers. Food and tea was good. I hope they will start serving with actual tableware.
Beautiful views, great coffee, fantastic service today. We were the last to leave even after you were closed but did not rush us. Thank you we will be back again
Very nice little coffee with delicious pastries from next door, and amazing views. The lady was super friendly today, even though we mixed up our order and took the wrong hot chocolate for our kids. She handled it like a friendly professional.
On occasion, when either the mood suits or there's enough tourists, they open a 'Pop-Up' dinner. It's a simple menu with charcuterie or fresh tapas style plates that incorporate local produce and regional wines. It's a lovely little place on the water's edge with gracious staff. This place symbolizes Cowichan Valley hospitality.
Great breakfast sandwich and coffee
They provide disposable cups only for dining in. If you don t care about drinking micro plastic it s a beautiful place and nice coffee. I love their bakery. Food
Great location and coffee but sandwiches are overpriced.
Great little Cafe, part of the bakery next door. Some nice snacks along with excellent coffee and views over cowichan bay.
Wallet hurt after this visit good coffee though. there was grounds in coffee
Great place pleasant and unique atmosphere. Coffee is good.
Lucky enough to have this place as my everyday cafe. Staff is awesome, and the food and drinks are amazing.
Thank you for a lovely experience by people that care
I m not sure what has happened here. Service I received was rude and condescending. I don t like to leave poor reviews but someone needs to take notice that a beautiful setting won t make up for customers feeling belittled. My coffee was good, food only ok. I want to see this place succeed but it won t if people are yelled at by kitchen staff and don t want to return.
Used to love the friendly service here. Food and views are still awesome, however, the customer service on our last 2 visits were not. Arrived at 2:09pm on this gorgeous day. Could only get coffee in a paper cup mot a mug. Couldnt sit outside because the chairs were already tied up. I was expecting full service until your 2:30pm closing. Server was not as friendly cutomer oriented as weve come to expect.
Beautiful spot for coffee
Such a feeling of being in a far off land, just a short bus ride away.
Because we are lucky enough to live in the beautiful Cowichan Valley we are at the Leeward Cafe on an almost weekly basis. The food is always scrumptious and the staff welcoming, friendly and courteous. We love the ambience of dining in the clean and cozy cafe but in fair weather we bring our own mugs, which the staff happily fill, and we sit on the quaint benches out back and enjoy the boats and birds. The Leeward Cafe and its sister business True Grain Bakery are delightful!
Amazing food and beautiful location but lazy staff. I ordered a matcha latte and breakfast sandwich at 1:30 on Saturday, and no sweetener was added to my latte, and when I asked for sweetener, I was told that would be extra! The last time I checked, sweetener was included. I was planning on dining in, and when I asked for a plate, I was told we dont have any despite others using plates and the fact that I saw a stack of plates.
The staff here continue, after months and months, to look like you re irritating them by coming in. Like you should be thanking your lucky stars they are waiting on you, commoner. Ladies. For Pete s sake .get some personality and cheer. It s too nice a place with too good of food to feel like such an uncomfortable encounter EVERY time!
Amazing coffee and food every single time!! I always feel so welcomed coming in here, the staff are very attentive and very efficient.
This little café is a wonderful addition to the sister bakery next door. The coffee is delicious, the sandwiches are incredible and the treats are fresh and tasty. We loved having lunch there before stopping at the bakery.
Very troubling experience after being given tea and pastry we were told we had to leave. When we said we had just been served we were told to leave in five minutes as the cafe was closed. Our biggest concern was the way the manager spoke to her employee who served us and then sent another employee to tell us to leave as we had been mistakenly served.
Fantastic little café with great ambiance, food and service.
Awesome experience! Food and view and music make it the best spot in Cowichan Bay
I love this place! The staff are kind and serve the most delicious drinks and food. Would recommend for anyone passing through Cowichan Bay!
Great service, yummy breakfast sandwich.
Nice place for a cozy afternoon!
Lovely place. Friendly staff, great coffee and food. Wonderful view.
Nice atmosphere and view.
So cute and so many yummy food options! Right on Genoa Bay too, so super cute. Would definitely recommend coming and getting a coffee here.
Incredible sandwiches and great coffee. And the view of Cowichan Bay is amazing.
I asked if I could have a real cup and not a disposal cup, the server said that they were closing and would a disposal cup suffice I said no, I will go somewhere who will support my request Ar this point I was told I could have a real coffee for my coffee after I mentioned global warming and unnecessary waste I have returned to this place a few times since and was served very civilly by the same server I really like the coffee shop and I trust it was a once off situation
Great service.
Dreamy sums it up pretty well.
Lovely little spot
Cute cafe attached to a bakery with delicious vegetarian panini.
Great coffee, amazing view!
Best Mocha I ve had in a reallly long time. I can t even remember where I ve had one that nice before.
Good sandwich but indifferent service. Had to wait quite awhile to give our order while the staff did other things. Mops and brooms left in front of the bathroom door kept falling over and were tripping hazards. Very loud kitchen noises diminished the ambience. Three stars.
Staff were very friendly. Good coffee.
Great vibe, service, coffee and beautiful interior! Nice to have a substantial breakfast sandwhich in the Valley.
A treasure of a cafe with an amazing staff, great coffee and delicious food. The sunlit terrace and the beautiful nautical themed interior were just what we needed to find comfort
Brand new and very tastefully decorated, that fits in with the culture of Cowichan Bay, and built out over the water. The food is very tasty as well - delicious salad, sandwiches and quiche. Weve always appreciated Maras approach and conscientious selection of ingredients. Very worthwhile to drop in and have a meal!
Great place, setting coffee and lunch, and they get their bread from the adjacent (co-owned) bakery. Local area map on wall by Briony P. What s not to like?
Very kool and nice..
Friendly service and nice space. Didn t try the pastries but they are from True Grain Bakery so they are likely great. Unfortunately the barista did not seem to have a great grasp on coffee drinks or steaming milk. There was no micro foam at all and she scooped the macro foam out with a spoon. (Old school) Coffee roast was decent in flavor but the coffee drinks overall were not good.
What an amazing little cafe! We were visiting from out of town and this was one of our favourite spots. Very welcoming and friendly staff and fantastic food and coffee! We loved the atmosphere of dining in and watching the boats in the marina. Highly recommend the spinach feta croissant! We loved them so much that we had to stop by to pick some up on our way off the island.
I cant believe it took Cow Bay this long to get a cafe, but it was well worth the wait to get Leeward. The setting is gorgeous, with the care and attention to detail clear. The food and coffee is great and the staff are very friendly. With beer now available, its the perfect place to enjoy a meal and beverage any time of day. Stoked to have Leeward in the bay.
We enjoyed our lunch here. Comfortable with nice views and friendly staff. Coffee was done right. A couple critiques though, firstly a hot beverage was served in a glass cup with no handle, it looked cool, but not a well thought out idea. Secondly, this is counter service, which is fine. I have no problem ordering at the counter, getting up to gather the drinks, then the food, and finally clearing the table and putting the dishes away. But why then does your credit card system ask for a tip? As far as Im aware tips are for service that goes above and beyond. Your prices should adequately allow you to pay your staff properly, so ditch the tip prompt.
Awesome cafe with great views!
Great little spot to grab a nice sandwich, latte or tea.
An inviting establishment with water (and lovely houseboat) views and very friendly staff.
Stopped in here today and while in line, the man infront of me wasn t sure what he wanted so he told me to step ahead of him. When I stepped up to order the lady at the counter turned away and was dealing with something else (keeping everyone waiting for about 5 minutes). The lady at the counter turned back around and rudely and loudly informed me that the man behind me was there first. I told her I knew that and that he had said to step infront she then replied WELL who was here FIRST?!? The man, also embarrassed stepped up and placed his order. Needless to say I did not give my business to this establishment. If for some reason it was very important for her to serve the other man first she could have said so in a polite manner. Anywho, there are plenty of cute spots in cowichan, I wouldn t bother with a place that doesn t respect it s customers.
Very pleasant staff. Very reasonably priced coffee. Great pastries and cookies. Beautiful, warm place, and great view!
The London fog was so good I had to restrain myself from drinking it too fast. We were only stopping by Cowichan Bay for the morning, so I didnt get to try the soup of the day (pear and parsnip with tarragon) but it sounded absolutely amazing, and Ill probably thinking about what that soup was like for the next few days.
Really quaint outdoor dining as the sun comes up
Very nice break Excellent croissant worthy of a French Croissant Very clean restaurant
We live in Qualicum Beach and whenever we travel southbound on Vancouver Island it is a must that we make a left turn off the highway and visit our absolute favourite cafe. Right away upon entry, you are exposed to a very warm, yet bright beautiful and tastefully furnished atmosphere. To compliment your surroundings the staff are unmatched in their smiling professional and very courteous dealings with the guests. They make whatever effort required to ensure your needs are met in every regard. It is our opinion all the staff without exception have without a doubt raised the bar in hospitality for other establishments to emulate. We have sampled a variety of what the menu has to offer. The taste and presentation of the cuisine is unparalleled. Absolutely delicious paired with a great cup of coffee. We have never been disappointed. After you have finished, for an amazing treat to cap of your memorable experience visit the bakery True Grain right next door. We will always make the effort to visit as much as we can. Thank you all for your efforts. As soon as leave we cannot wait for our next visit. Until next time, do take care. Sincerely and Kind Regards Jim and Roszita Gillespie
