Server was awesome food was top notch the crepes are very good they serve them for brunch with many filings appropriate for lunch lol they also have desert crepes ha da good menu for diner as well as we had such a good experience at lunch we made reservations for dinner lol. I would imagine whatever you order would be prepared with care and served so fast you'll wonder how lol. Ten plus
Called the day before to ensure a table by the window for two. Was greeted at the door by Daniel who was also our waiter for lunch. I ordered the daily feature which was a Roast Beef eggs benedict served on a freshly made Yorkshire pudding that was Totally Amazing! Through out the meal Daniel was 100% attentive in a very good way - non obtrusive, never interrupting the flow of conversation with my luncheon guest, but everytime he passed I noticed he kept an eye on our table to see if we needed anything. I'm a retired Air Force Pilot and have travelled far and wide and this meal was very good, but the service was the absolute best I have ever had. Well Done, The Vine, and Thank you Daniel for truly Outstanding service. Major G.
We had the brunch of a seafood crepe and an eggs Benny with roast beef on top of a Yorkshire pudding with sauce. The food and service was so delicious we came back for supper. They did not disappoint!
Unexpected delicious and great services. We love the seafood burger and breakfast crepes. Fair price as compare to those restaurants in downtown Victoria.
It seems everyone comes here for the patio in the summer as the dining room was completely empty. We came for an early dinner and it was already busy. Menu choices are great. Even when the rice came out partially cooked, the server immediately replaced it with potatoes. Everyone was happy with their meal but the appetizer portions were on the small side.
An amazing gem in Cowichan Bay! I was in Cowichan for the weekend and The Vine was an absolute knockout. We thought we came too close to closing but it wasn’t an issue. We had an amazing spot on the patio, which is situated on the Marina. We had a great view of the sunset and boats on the water. Our server was amazing! She brought over a sign with all the specials, which was plenty! We decided on the lamb special and the seafood linguine, with a side salad to start. No alcoholic beverages but there were lots of options for whatever you were looking for. The seafood was fresh, and the lamb was perfectly cooked. It was a knockout meal. We were so full that we didn’t have room for dessert. I’d highly recommend if you’re in the area! Great meal, great service and great location!
Came a little late at the end before closing and felt a little bad. Staff were very friendly and we ordered a couple crepes and drinks. Both crepes were really good. Prosciutto artichoke and peaches and cream for dessert. Restaurant has parking out front and a great view of the harbor from inside. My Paloma cocktail was mediocre but the gin fizz was really good
Dinner here right on the water overlooking Cowichan Bay was delicious. We had the Calamari and Pan Fried Oysters to start. Then we both had the Clam Linguine for our main course. It was full of fresh clams and prawns as well. A beautiful evening with great service as well.
The food was delicious and the service was attentive without upselling. We will be back!
I have been very grateful to be eating Dannys food for over two decades now. His culinary skills were honed in Brussels Belgium and we are fortunate to have him here with us in the Cowichan Valley as its best traditional French Chef. I was a red seal chef, trained by french masters and I can tell you that the food collection at the Vine presents you with a very rich - old school - traditional French culinary experience. His sauces are second to none and every day presents a new collection of specialties that shows off his ingenuity and creativity. If you havent tried his cooking then you are missing out ! ps.. his calamari is to die for ....and chocolate taurine OMG yes
Very nice food service is super friendly but food can be a bit slow
amazing view on patio, breakfast was delicious and big portions. staff all very friendly. we will definitely be back.
We had a lovely lunch at The Vine. The patio was delightful, the fish and chips were delicious, and the service was great. Someone tried to tell us they were short-staffed, but we didn t believe them.
Ordered the fried oysters and they were terrible. The waitress took a long time to check up on our table and when I finally told her I was unhappy with my order I asked if I could just replace it with the clam chowder. 15 minutes passed and the rest of my family was finished their meals. I asked the waitress to cancel my soup. When the bill came I asked my boyfriend if we were charged for the oysters and we were. When the waitress came to collect payment I asked if we could remove the item from the bill. She said it s a popular item and we don t refund just because you took a risk and didn t like it. I asked to speak to a manager and he told me they do in fact refund food. When I told him our waitress specifically said they didn t and was very rude to me he called me a liar. Terrible customer service!!! I strongly advise you to treat people better as there are many other restaurant options in the area and you will lose business to friendlier establishments!
2nd visit to this place, still as good I recommend the oyster fritters The setting is idyllic on Cowichan Bay
4.5 Stars for sure....great home cooked meals, service was as always excellent. Nothing to complain about!!
Went for brunch, and it was perfection on a plate. Cesars, loaded seafood crepes, poutine with homemade Gravy, oh my!
Amazing food, fantastic service, and the view is to die for.
Pleasant outdoor atmosphere.
Great food, best customer service Ive had at a restaurant in a long time.
Evsrything is great with the exception of the owners wife who acts as the greeter. Abrupt to the point of being rude.
A must
Good food, good service, good view. Food was a little overcooked. Would eat here again.
What a great place! The food was excellent, prices were totally fair, the staff were really kind and welcoming and the view was gorgeous! We highly recommend. Dietary restrictions: My wife is gluten free and had a phenomenal Mexican crepe and loved it.
Tremendous
Great
The hostess was weird upon arrival. Seemed annoyed we wanted a table away from the door. She became friendly over time but seemed flustered. Threw the serving tray on the chair next to me as she fumbled to take our order. After ordering and the food arrived: I found the soup bland. Also the vegetarian crepe wasn t the best. Came out cold. The buckwheat shell was amazing but the ingredients themselves wasn t great. Tasted like a frozen pizza disguised as a crepe. Definetly won t be coming back anytime soon sadly.
Wonderful patio and atmosphere
Three nights in Cowichan Bay, two nights at The Vine. Reservations for both. First night was three of us, my wife and I both had the Hunter Schnitzel, our friend had the mussels. Both were excellent , service was very patient with us because we were busy talking and hadn t chosen wine or looked at the menu for about 30 minutes. Never a complaint, no reason to, everything was perfect. Second night was five of us, including a three year old toddler. Our niece ordered Rockfish and fries, her partner ordered a burger, my wife ordered lamb sirloin, I ordered beef bourguignon I was stunned, I ve had beef bourguignon in Vancouver, Montreal, Manhattan, Paris. I ve had it overcooked in a French Restaurant and done properly in other places, but this was incredible, unbelievably good. The best I have ever enjoyed. Wanted to thank the chef in person however he was too busy. Hope he see this review So hear s the deal, if you re in Cowichan Bay, ignore the one bad review out of ten, they don t understand how restaurants work and just love to complain about anything. Go to The Vine Ian and Pamela Green
Overall I had a very nice experience. Right on the water, nice view. I had a ceasar salad, which was nothing crazy but it did the job. I had the chicken mushroom swiss crepe which was awesome. I had a piece of the newyork cheese cake, it was great. My waiter was on point and the service was great. The prices are decent, nothing crazy.
This restaurant does not maintain their posted hours. For the second time in a year we have arrived more than an hour prior to advertised closing time and were refused service because they were closed. Their Google profile states clearly that they are open but apparently that doesnt mean anything.
The chef prepares excellent meals with high quality ingredients. The menu is varied and one cant go wrong. Seafood is a highlight but the lamb, beef or chicken dishes are also excellent. The prices are very reasonable and overall it is hard to believe this quality is available in such a small centre off the beaten path. I might add the service was excellent also. Kid-friendliness: In the summer the outdoor patio dining is open with a chance for younger children to stretch their legs. Staff are very easy and friendly. Menu tends toward adult choices but there are some for kids.
We ate here last night April 11 2024 and it was the most tasteless meal Ive ever had in a high end restaurant. Weve eaten here before but last night was lacking in taste and the quality of seafood was sub-par. The scallops had the appearance of being cut in half and we over cooked. Prawns were nice size but had no seasoning at all. Pasta tasted like it was not cooked in salted water. The chorizo sausage and mussels were the only ingredients with taste and that was not because of the chefs doing. Sorry for such a poor review but I thought you should know that for $$$ we paid and with so many good restaurants in Cowichan Bay, you better step it up!
Excellent food (had a salmon burger), top service and a nice atmosphere.
If I go out for crepes it s for breakfast and to wait until they open at 10am is much too late
Food and service great but the decore and paint in this place Needs a update .It has potential to be amazing.
Dietary restrictions: GF options Food
worth the wait for sure. Wheelchair accessibility: ground floor wide door Food : 5/5 |
We had a lovely birthday celebration here. The food and staff were lovely!
It was our first visit to The Vine as we are from Victoria. The food was fresh, skillfully prepared and delicious. We ll definitely make the trip over the Malahat to eat here again. That says a lot as I m not fond of The Malahat. Thank you.
Food was great, server clearly didnt want to be there!
An incredible chef who we have supported for many years.
Food was ok. I had seafood crepe & my husband had a burger. The crepe white sauce could have used more flavor. Hubbys burger was also flavorless and dry, a bit disappointing. Other guests with us had eggs benny and the frittattas special, they were quite pleased.
We enjoyed a very pleasant evening at the Vine. We had made a reservation and we were promptly greeted and seated. Our server was Brittney. She was very informative, attentive and friendly. Our food was superb. I enjoyed the Blackened Canary Rockfish and my companion enjoyed the Seafood Pie. We ll be back and very soon. Thank you for a lovely experience. Parking: Parking was easily available just outside the restaurant.
My favourite local restaurant. Friendly service. Great food- the Thai mussels are a staple. Lots to choose from. Vegetarian options: Yes had some options Dietary restrictions: I am gluten and dairy free both of which were accomodated Parking: Lot outside door or plenty local parking
Great brunch looking over the harbour and the bay. Spacious and gracious. Had a great meal with a large group and everyone left happy. The crepes are a generous serving with lots of filling, and the bennies were delicious.
Friendly place and good service. Some surprises on the menu, advice for those curious about experiences
Amazing one of the best restaurant I have eat in my own life.
Great atmosphere and local seafood, they were happy to accommodate our large group for a birthday. The cheesecake was sublime.
We had brunch with friends. We all enjoyed the crepes and burger.
We went for brunch two days in a row when we were in Cowichan Bay this weekend. The eggs Benny was delicious, crepes were awesome. Great views (we sat on the patio which is right on the water), and great service. Food was super fast also.
We went tonight to celebrate our daughters 28th birthday day the food was incredible! However the service definitely not 100 percent . They messed up on one order when we asked for potatoes instead of rice and they didnt put in a candle in our daughters dessert that we asked for so we could sing happy b day to her . Very disappointing. Especially islly since the restaurant wasnt even busy . the food was incredible so over all a great place to go .
Absolutely the best meal we ate while on vancouver island. The prawn linguini was delicious perfectly cooked. The fish and chips were the best that we had while we were on vancouver island. A huge amount of fish incorrectly fried batter. The seafood it pie looked amazing and my friend said the sauce was to die for. A much bigger portion than I had imagined or I would have ordered it myself.
Direct terrace overlooking the marina. Excellent food and friendly service
The food here was delicious and really well priced. The waitress seemed a little annoyed that we had showed up as it was a half an hour before the kitchen was going to close.
Great views
It was a beautiful day to enjoy the patio, food and courteous service. Id not hesitate to return. Vegetarian options: I enjoyed the Cobb Salad and opted to add chicken.
Really great dinner and breakfast menu!
Delicious food and great service. How special to find Dutch bitterballen on the menu (which were very tasty by the way). I hope to come back next year.
Great service, delicious, hot food with genrous portions. The view is lovely. We look forward to trying more of the menu! (Kids seal of approval as well!)
Danny is an excellent chef!
Great food. Decent service, beautiful location.
Delicious savoury crepes, I enjoyed my mushroom and chicken one. Gorgeous views and the most efficient and friendly service we experienced in Canada!
Wow, this place is amazing, hard to get into but i can see why
Great patio with a view, lovely staff. Seafood crepe was absolutely delicious! But calamari had way too much batter for our liking
Fantastic waterfront restaurant. Delicious seafood and crepes.
Kid-friendliness: They don t turn them away! Wheelchair accessibility: Not much to say ..it s eminently accessible! Food : 5/5 |
Just finished a lovely patio dinner at Divine and had an amazing time! Able and the team were very helpful and the food was first class. Highly recommend you stop by for brunch or dinner here when you are in Cowichan Bay. Amazing atmosphere!
Very nice restaurant, right on the water. The steaks and fish were excellent, the service formidable.
Love this place! Great patio in Summer right on the water front. Beautiful food with some lovely gluten free options. Great service and value. PS ceasars are fantastic with prawns and bacon.
We get to cowichican bay a couple time a year , we allways end up here and they allways find ways to impress us good job guys and thankyou.
Love this place! Love the food (cuz the chef knows food!) the service and the servers whether its brunch lunch or dinner...summers on the deck are just a bonus...and thats up to the sun gods. You need to go!
It pretends to be a fine dining restaurant but it really isn t. Food was mediocre to subpar and overpriced. Atmosphere was kinda tacky. Very nice staff tho.
Friendly staff, great location. I had one of the best burgers that I have ever had. Piping hot and very tasty. Fries were hot as well. I really appreciate getting top quality like this at a cost that isnt that much more than a fast food spot. Thanks.
Fantastic food for a surprisingly low price. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of vegetarian options offered that werent listed on their online menu. And their fresh breads were amazing. Definitely try the oyster burger! Vegetarian options: We were pleasantly surprised by the number of vegetarian options offered that werent listed on their online menu. They vegetarian crepes made from caramelized onion and mushroom that were the envy of the rest of the table.
The food is incredible and the service is outstanding. Check out the patio when you are there. The view of the bay is beautiful. The hand made desert its a chocolate lovers dream. The chef is incredible and ever dish is prepared with love.
Why would I ever go to any establishment that helps fund the faux outrage occupation of our nations capital? Seriously, I hope the contribution was worth it.
Our favourite place to eat in Cowichan valley Everything on the menu is good but Dans Daily specials are superb.
We went there for brunch. The Vine burger is delicious. Seafood crepes is very tasty as well.
Been here a few times for crepes and theyre absolutely delicious!! Im very picky when it comes to restaurants but this place is wonderful, the water views and like I said the food is top notch!
Delicious crepes, beautiful scenery.
Great food but above all AMAZING service! Totally recommend this if you re in Cow Bay
Great food and great service!
Formal service..fresh delicious food if you have spare bucks.
Our go to before and during the pandemic! Always excellent food and I am absolutely confident of their health practices
Great Seafood.
Wed heard wonderful things about the Rock Cod Cafe nearby, which is unfortunately permanently closed, so we took a chance on The Vine. Very clean and beautiful dining area, gorgeous view of the docks, delicious food, and quick, friendly service. This is based on a single visit, so two caveats: 1) one soup was too salty. 2) It was a quiet weekday lunch, and I couldnt speak for how it would be on a busier day.
We lived the simple menu, with upscale choices. It was a great evening with good service, excellent ambiance and a great view. This is a great place to spend a couple of hours.
5 star food! 2 star interior
Excellent food The best crepes The service exceptional Been here before& always great.worth waiting for even though they were very quick in providing
I adore this place the food is always amazing!! In the summer the deck is An amazing place to sit and waste an evening!! Remainder of tue year you still can t go wrong great staff great food awesome wine!! Hits one of my top three must eat places in cowichan Valley
I don t write reviews unless it s completely necessary and in this case it is. The two stars are for the atmosphere! Beautiful patio very calm and relaxing with a beautiful view which makes me WISH everything else was wonderful to go with it. The service was prompt but terrible. Our server had no table etiquette and was all around unpleasant! She definitely did not want to be there. The food was sub par if that. There was a prawn linguini that was not even close to hot and my shrimp avocado salad lacked any flavour. I had hoped to order a side of garlic prawns and our server said that was not possible I would have to order a full order also strange as that would have been a great upswell for my salad. I ve work in restaurants for years and this was extremely disappointing, we booked a month ago for Mother s Day and had high hopes. Hopefully this review can either deter you from making the same mistake or The Vine can learn and correct a couple things. Had I known we would have gone literally anywhere else!!
There was a warm welcoming and the atmosphere was special as the Fisherman s Wharf was in full view from our window seating the low key environment made for a relaxing dinner meal..the mushroom soup was very tasty and the hamburger and fries was of freshness and quality.. my wife s seafood linguini was quite tasty and a generous portion..no photos..after the meal we walked along the very beautiful viewing wildlife and the sunset along Cowichan Bay
Great location right on the water. Very nice family business. Food and wine also very good. Everything perfect. Thanks!
Absolutely delicious! The chocolate dessert usually comes with ice cream, but that much dairy bothers me, so they left it off. So delicious!
Great meal and a very varied menu.
Nice place on the main drag in Cowichan Bay. Its a nice little detour between Duncan and Victoria. Parking might be a little dicey on a busy day but we had no problem. The place had only one occupied table. The menu is largely made up of a variety of crepes with different fillings. This is not a vegan restaurant. There was, as I recall, one vegetarian crepe which is what I chose. It was stuffed with zucchini and eggplant and a good helping of goat cheese. It was very tasty but it was very rich. I decided to only eat half and bring the rest for later. The other crepe selections were basically variations of beef, pork, chicken and, of course, seafood. My partner went with the chicken and enjoyed it. The restaurant has a comfortable but a bit plain, rustic feel. The nice part is that its on the water and has a nice view. Service was efficient. This is a spot that relies heavily on tourists and local traffic. I personally wont go back but thats because of my vegan/vegetarian preference. As a satisfying spot for everyday diners I think its worth a look.
Love the atmosphere here, and the specials are scrumptious!
Very hot day. Sundeck was fully reserved but they managed to fit us in. We both had the clam chowder. Excellent!
A nice waterfront patio with great food and service. The crepes are fantastic for brunch, and the dinner dishes are well executed and seasoned.
Loved this belgian inspired restaurant! The crêpe with caramelised apple and vanilla ice cream was the best I ever ate! The vol-au-vent and the mussels were also reallly good! Great atmosphere with good music, lovely seaview and superfriendly staff! Would definitely go there again!
The service and food was awful. I would highly recommend not wasting your time or money in this place.I requested the chicken sandwich without a bun because I m celiac; the server expressed that this request was IMPOSSIBLE to do so I was offered the Cobb salad the presentation and taste were horrendous.
The Vine is a great place by the water near Duncan, BC, Canada. We had been out for a day of wine tastings and our last stop, Alderlea Vineyards (which is excellent but thats another review) recommended Vine. It was late (7:00) as they close at 8 but we called and made a reservation for 7:30). We were given a table outside with heaters and a view. The food was excellent. We had the chowder of the day, rack of Lamb, beef bourguignon and an amazing crepe for dessert. They serve Alderlea wines here so we had a bottle of the Syrah. Even though there was a huge family birthday party before us our service was great and timely. We were able to enjoy our wine and meal in comfort and ease. Parking is difficult as you may be asked to park behind someone and therefore have to move your car during your meal but its worth it.
Have been to the restaurant a number of times and had good food and service. Yesterday I ordered a Mahi Mahi special. Overall the dish was fine but the fish was cold, dry and overcooked. The plate was taken back to the kitchen and the cook stated he disagreed and that the fish was fine. He insisted that I pay for the meal. Will not be back!
Probably the best fish and chips weve ever had! Great service, great view and such a satisfying meal. We highly recommend!
First time here for lunch, and the last. The service was slow, the staff seemed annoyed, the food was average and over priced as well as limited. The crepes- presentation was good and they were great.
Delicious food. Beautiful views and excellent service! Dietary restrictions: Changed toast to white, no seeds Wheelchair accessibility: Easy entry and parking
Terrible restaurant, terrible experience. we arrived 8 people, they sat us in the sun, we said it really bothers us, they didnt find a solution for it, there was one parasol that didnt really help, no matter how much we asked, the owner of the place didnt find a solution for us and just said that it was the table listed for us in the order even though we didnt ask for a specific table . Then came the food that were so avarge, we ordered seafood linguine and cream and seafood salad with avocado. With average cooking skills I would make more interesting & tasty dishes. In short, we had a very bad experience and food not much better than this. Highly not recommended.
Reservations were made for seating on the deck., We were sat at the first table just outside the door not near the water where three tables that we saw sat empty. We asked for slow service while we enjoyed the view but we barely finished our salad and our main course arrived!!! Salad had quite a bit of brown lettuce and the seafood crepe that I ordered was very fishy tasting and the sauce wasnt even seasoned. While my husband had the chicken mushroom crepes - there was no love attention in either dish. Each crepe should be made to order. This restaurant was recommended by a coworker but I dont think we will be visiting it any time soon. Sad as we are in the neighbourhood and yes restaurants have had a hard time during COVID but we as patrons are feeling that we can go out again to dine. No recommendation from me. When you spend you want it to be at least another visit back. We wanted to split our cesar salad but for them to do it they were going to charge a fee. We thought that was a bit petty. we did the sharing ourselves - the salad I must say was good but there were a lot of brown bits on the lettuce. Oh my husband says his martini was good!
Great menu. Lots of sea food options. Great Mai Thai drinks. Lovely atmosphere and lovely staff :)
This had a beautiful patio to dine on, a seal swam right up to my table! I went here for brunch and had a savery crêpe while it was tasty I found the crêpe was too big and rich to eat in one sitting I will go here again but I try something different
The servings fill the plate. Patio view is beautiful. All meals were enjoyed at our table.
Our 1st time for dinner here. Pleased with restaurant atmosphere and menu selections and beverages. Fresh muscles, calamari and rockfish and of course ribye steak. Nice generous portions and served hot. Prices are reasonable atm. Would recommend .
Very good food. Lovely large outside patio also. Finding parking on a weekend can be a challenge though.
Kid-friendliness: Cool fish tank and a huge bug zapper thats really cool Wheelchair accessibility: Front entrance is level and i think there is handicapped parking
Fabulous food. Great service. I really enjoyed the relaxing ambiance on the deck. Heated patio and blankets on demand was perfect. Desserts was divine.
Be sure to make a reservation. This is a popular spot. Seafood is the specialty of the house and crepes. Waitress was friendly, and was very receptive to my need for gluten-free meal choices. In the day time the view of the harbour is great and at night time the candles and nice music make the place special.
Great food prepared perfect
Nice atmosphere . Fast service . Good wait staff . Great menu , a lot of choices .
This is absolutely my favourite restaurant for any occasion. Been there 6x and never disappointed. Service, price, food excellent. Even their covid measures are great
Great crêpes, will come back!
Usually a great choice in cowbay we must have had an off night it was a tad on the salty side
We ordered the Seafood Pie and the Seafood Crepe. They were amazing. The service was very good as well.
Decided to go for a little drive. My wife and I left Victoria and headed north to visit Cowichan Bay. Parking was very difficult and while we were looking for a spot, we came across The Vine and decided to have something to eat. We elected to eat on the patio which was a beautiful location. How delightful to sit in the warm sun and see the Bay and all the activity. Our waitress was Dani (Hope I spelled it correctly) She was GREAT!!! Eager to answer my many questions about the area. I had the traditional breakfast and my wife had the enchilada crepe. I have three things to say about the food when it came: 1. Good sized portion (and Im a big eater.) 2. Absolutely delicious (and presented well) 3. The price would fit anybodys budget. (what a treat) We will definitely be back again. Thanks to The Vine, Dani, and the kitchen staff for making our Saturday drive a memorable one.
Faaaabulous
Patio dinning only for really good sea food. Great meals with reasonable prices, I highly recommend it.
We had a fantastic lunch here today. 3 completely different meals and equally spectacular. Great service and great prices.
The food was delicious but our waitress could use some PR skills......usually we are overly tolerant and dont complain etc.....today was just plain poor service.....the food was 5 star...service 0 star.....I entered 1 because I had to enter something.
Wonderful food, never had seafood better! The food is phenomenal no matter what I have tried
Great food good service Great place to go for a special occasion
Food was great, service was terrible.
nice food and great location! i had a crepe and it was lovely. only thing i will say is that the waitress had very dirty nails and was actually weirdly judgmental about me ordering a crepe for dinner lol. i dont want to have to explain myself when i order food i would just like to order my food. also you could hear the chef yelling at everyone from the kitchen, he was not happy that night haha.
The food here is amazing and the service is great,I absolutely love the view from the patio
Great Breakfast
Excellent service...great views..wonderful food..good prices.
Love crepes, but mine were very hard to cut and chewy. Maybe a one off, as others seemed loved them. Service could have been better, low on staff maybe, The front staff were great, brought our dog water, which was really nice.
Lovely spot, perfect weather great food and service!
Excellent food! Sadly I was too full to try the dessert crepes. Will have to go again.
Would give no stars if it was possible. Twentieth Anniversary Dinner was a huge disappointment. The problem was service. We waited 15 minutes for a beer and a soda water. We waited another 15-20 minutes for a second beer. When we ordered, we specified calamari first, then soup then main course. We spoke to the waitress 2-3 times about our order inquiring where it was. 45 minutes later, the calamari arrived cold and tough along with soup which had a skin on it. The manager(?) came and spoke to us explaining 2 other restaurants in the area were closed and explained staffing was the issue. (The closures of other restaurants were known in advance. )We saw there were lots of staff. Maybe it was our server, the kitchen being slow, management that dont care or other unknown causes. We offered to pay for our beer and soda, but the manager let us have them complimentary. We went elsewhere for dinner where we were served calamari within 10 minutes- hot and tender and main course arrived piping hot just after we finished the calamari. This saved our anniversary. We will not return to the The Vine.
Great deck and view. The one way traffic thing was a bit awkward as you have to all the way outside and around to use the washroom. Excellent brunch, loved the fresh fruit on the side.
The California Benny, Diablo omelette, and Diablo cocktail were superb. The staff are exceptional, and the views from the patio are second to none.
Delicious breakfast options including many styles of Eggs Benedict and various sweet and savoury crepes served right on the pier.
Good food, patio and location
Very nice place, amazing ocean view, excellent service and reasonable prices, also the food is so delicious and yummy. The vine is my favourite place to eat in and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, as it s a great place to dine in .
Beautiful restaurant in Cowichan Bay. We enjoyed lunch on the patio and had exceptional service and food. Truly recommend this place. Try the Mexican Crepe
Belgian fries a must
We had dinner at The Vine two nights in a row last weekend. We had Abel as our server on Friday night and requested to have him as our server on Saturday. He has exceptional customer service! We loved loved loved the Escagot, Seafood Crepe, Seafood Pie and The 12oz steak, especially the deserts too.... to die for!!! We wouldnt mind to have dinner there every night if they are open 7 days a week... Lol!!!
Stopped by The Vine this afternoon on the hop on our way back home to Victoria after a mini vacation. Although we did not have a reservation, the young lady was kind enough to check and accommodated us. The food was excellent and service was prompt and pleasant. Would definitely recommend it and go there again. Covid protocol in place.
Gorgeous view. Decent service. Aweful food. Mussels were inedible. We dont know what was making them taste so bad. They looked and smelled great but tasted rotton. Mahi Mahi had zerrrro flavor.
Small portions but tasty. Service was good and not overly friendly which I like.
My duck was a bit overdone and before we finished our dinner we were asked to move to make place for another customer
The fish and chips were excellent. The chef used saffron and tumeric in the fish batter, delicious. Salad was great, too. And the fries were not at all greasy or overcooked. Worth the wait. Busy, but timely.
This is a not to miss stop at Cowichan Bay. The crepe concept is so unique. I had the vegetarian crepe with roasted eggplant, peppers and goat cheese! It was so filling and so delicious. The patio has amazing views of the bay. I highly recommend it!
Really liked this place. Amazing patio.
Excellent breakfast, very good coffee, sat out on the deck and enjoyed seeing the ocean
Excellent food and big patio with tent covering and heaters if needed.
Excellent food with European options. Featuring French and local wine. Definitely will visit again.
The food and service is always incredible at The Vine in Cowichan Bay. When the weather is nice the patio is amazing but even on a day like today when it was raining, the view from indoors is great. The portions are huge and all the staff are so friendly and welcoming.
great service, wonderful food. Brought someone who has never been here before and he was so impressed with the views and the great food. Can not wait till the full menu is back and glad I got there to enjoy again this year. Thank you
The food was great :)
Good for dinner friendly crew
Had the Famous Seafood Pie. Unimaginative is about it. Plenty of snapper. Couple of shrimp. Thought I saw a scallop. Generally lacking flavour. Also the beer was served in a fish bowl. Why? There are pint glasses and mugs. Fish bowls are for Margs in Mexico.
Food was amazing. We could tell they were short staffed like everywhere right now, yet they worked so quick and we still had great service and great breakfast!
Excellent food & service
We all enjoyed the calm, relaxed atmosphere. It was a pleasure to sit and enjoy our meal in such a warm inviting restaurant. The view was beautiful and the food delightful. Enjoy!
Quite the restaurant . Very very good food. I had the duck and my wife enjoyed the seafood crepes. Excellent service. Very clean as well.
Restaurant was not busy. I knew they were planning to close early, but the service was not hurried. Our calamari appetizer was very well prepared Lighly cooked and well seasoned. Main courses were seafood pasta that was large- lots left to take home after. The other main course was a seafood crepe. Several different seafoods in filling. They were both enjoyed. We accompanied the food with a white wine. Wine list offers many choices.
I have visited this special establishment twice in the past month, first for dinner and later for brunch. Both experiences were very impressive. The menu is unique but still meets the needs of those who like more simple (meat & potato) offerings and those who are foodies. The prices are reasonable, there is a nice view and the service is outstanding. Highly recommend the burgers, crepes, and shrimp avocado salad - and the cocktails.
Delicious! I vouch 100% for the food. Baileys & Kahlua crepes are to die for. Lamb rack was perfectly cooked. Mussels were huge, although the thai seasoning couldve been a tad bolder. Salt & pepper prawn were also seasoned perfectly. I heard theyre closed next week until next year, but boy, when they open again i will surely be at their door! Much recommended!
The chef doesnt always greet people at the door as he has other things to do, but he did us on this visit. I briefly mentioned to him that Id be a nuisance to him as Im vegan. He said that I wouldnt find anything on the menu and then asked what Id like. I said something warm and without animal products. He said that hed figure something out. Indeed he did. Palm hearts , portabello mushroom, other mushrooms, grilled tomato and grilled sweet pepper. He prepared them to be tastey. Afterwards I asked if he does much vegan stuff. He said that he gets asked for special things regularly and when he knows in advance its very helpful. He did a lovely job of it and his front staff was friendly and professional too.
We had two fish and chip takeaway orders which were disappointing. The fish and fries were both soggy and the fish lacked flavour. We ordered a single piece of fish each but received two which makes us think we were given an order someone else hadnt picked up and, hence, had sat around for some time. We normally very much enjoy Dans menu but the new takeaway business clearly needs sorting out.
Such a great location, I can imagine sitting her on the deck in the summer with a classic cocktail of some sort. Stopped in recently for some appies with a few friends, and the prices were high considering the serving size. Prawn appetizer for $14 and you get 4 prawns? Really, step it up a knotch and give some good sized portions.
This is a unique place, with amazing staff and a very high standard of wonderful food. I would go there for the service and the atmosphere alone.
Very good
Good food and service
Delicious food and drink. Wonderful staff
Honestly kind of scared to go to this restaurant. Staff is very snappy. Food used to be good but has gone down hill. Fries are still okay. Also my glass was dirty during Covid times
If you want tasty food and and a grand experience you want to come here!
Delicious dishes, careful, attentive service. Lovely view. All Covid protocols in place. Very relaxing
Have been to the Vine 3 times now and would give 10 stars for the food. I have the seafood crêpe mussels in cream sauce for appetizer s. The margaritas were delicious!!! Reason for 3 stars and not 5 - our waiter Daniel It was so much different when we had the other young man as a leader he was friendly and engaging and made a whole me extra enjoyable. Daniel was the complete opposite. My husband and I were sitting at around table looking out at the water facing the houseboats. Our Waiter decided to stand in our bubble Directly behind us so we would have to completely turn around and face our waiter just inches behind us I specifically asked him if he can go to the other end of the table and serve in front of us...Not only did he not do it but he continue to stand and serve behind us it made no sense where he was standing furthermore everything I asked him he quickly said No, Daniel can we sit on the patio No, Daniel can I substitute rice with mashed potato No! without even checking with anyone his instant answer was always No. He was frumpy dressed in black wrinkled clothes and wear a mask but pulled it down over his nose what good is that? And this time of Covid wise stand inches behind us and at the back of us it made no sense now I want to go back because the food is so good but it s not worth putting up with terrible service. It s a shame because the right way to make such a difference
Great views, friendly service, but frankly the food was kind of average. Though they also had several signs about safe distancing, our waiter was wearing his mask incorrectly and got uncomfortably close. Overall, a bit of a strange vibe here and average food means I wouldnt rush to go back.
Super good.
Mmmmmmm CREPES!
Staff is very friendly and punctual. Food was fantastic!!!!!! They really do know how to make a crepe and fish/chips. Views are amazing and the establishment is very clean. Well worth our drive for an afternoon lunch from Victoria. Will be back soon.
It was a Beautiful setting. Awesome food.
I had lunch with a few of my retired buddies their and the meals were great ,especially the oysters. We will return!!!!
Great food, had the calamari and seafood crepe, was delicious. Beautiful view from the patio.
beautiful location. great food and well organized for covid. very good service
Food was beautifully presented, good portions and delicious. Having brunch on the deck, overlooking the bay was also such a treat. Looking forward to trying dinner sometime!!
Cold, lack of athmosphere, overpriced food, and lack of attention to detail.
The food was mediocre at best, the waffles would have been better if they were toaster waffles. The wait was over an hour. The staff was rude. Tables seated after out order was placed were being served first. Couldnt even get wait staffs attention to complain. Wont be back. Its a shame as the restaurant replaced a really good one.
Great brunch
My husband and I plus our daughter and her family with 2 preschoolers arrived at dusk last week. We decided to take our potentially noisy gang outside to the patio where we were the lone occupants. Our server and the staff were wonderful and surprised us with an extensive menu, features and an entire line up of crepe dishes! We ordered appetizers for the kids and mains for the adults plus wine. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! We were very impressed and recognized that the chef is very invested in creating original and wonderful tasting food. Not only that, but the portions were very generous. I cant wait to go back!
This has been my favourite restaurant in the Cowichan Valley since it opened. I have often urged my family to celebrate special occasions at The Vine because the food is usually very good and the view is so lovely. I have assigned a star for each of these attributes. Now in the time of Covid 19, with many restrictions put on seating and serving, it is important that restaurant staff attempt to anticipate the needs of large groups who have made a reservation and identified a special occasion. Last night my birthday celebration at The Vine was derailed by staff with attitude. Instead of trying to give our 13 person group the best possible outcome under the no contact Covid restrictions, by seating us where we could enjoy the view and actually see one another, we were strung along one wall. My family, who wanted me to have a happy experience, tried to suggest better table options when they first arrived as it would have been impossible to even see one another from the tables on each end. Instead of being met with a warm friendly attempt to accommodate us within the current restrictions, they were served a dish of attitude. We all understand that there are strict Covid regulations In place and as a group we have eaten there several times since the pandemic began. When I arrived, there was palpable tension in the air. After a few moments, during which time I joined the discussion, the serving staff got out the written rules (which no one was disputing) and read them out loud. I expressed my disappointment at not having a view and suggested a workable option at which time the server reluctantly agreed to move 8 of us into the platformed window area with the other 5 close by. We were going to accept that begrudgingly offered compromise when the issue of how to present the bill became the deal breaker. Staff were unwilling to put themselves out and wanted to set us up with either 1 large bill or a separate bill for each table. We were not anticipating having to sit in groups that matched our billing needs so both options put the onus on us to do the appropriate math. In this computer age, when bills can be easily assigned to seat numbers on a map, it seemed like an inappropriate request to make of an obviously unhappy group. My family, knowing how much I enjoyed eating at The Vine, were still willing to do whatever I wanted but the tension filled atmosphere, and the lack of people skills that had been demonstrated by our wait staff, made me super uncomfortable. It was my decision to leave or stay, so we left. Lucky for us we did because after a few phone calls another Cowichan Valley restaurant was able to accommodate our group (three tables as per the Covid rules). Happy ending for us when this other restaurant (and my new favourite) served us amazing food and moved tables around to be as close together as compliance allowed. While ALL of the restrictions (including no visiting other tables) were maintained, we were able to have a birthday toast that everyone could see and hear. The staff were both warm and welcoming. Our waiter worked on customer service all evening and we had a fabulous time. Sad ending for The Vine because they lost some regular customers.
Amazing food as always. Recommended for people who like very well cooked meat and seafood dishes. Not recommended for vegetarians or people who want quick service.
The food isnt the same as it once was, it really has gone down in quality and presentation. The patio is nice for drinks, simple ones I might add - the bar selection is from a 1980s Banquet Bar and poorly executed, order a beer or wine! NO cocktails they are not done properly. The inside is boring, drab and run down, music like your in an elevator in a dingy old hotel or dining in your Grandparents Old Folks home dining room. Not inviting at all! The staff used to be friendly and up-beat in the very beginning of you opening which was enjoyable, seems they go through a lot of staff, totally understandable. I have heard the rumors of how the owners bully staff, finally saw it myself and it is absolutely appalling! I will never return, and be sure to clarify the rumors There is no way anyone should be supporting owners that abuse staff! Note... its a small town and the rumors are out there, in fact there are many mentions in your reviews about this yelling at staff as well and in your review answers you often blame mistakes on the staff, it is so clear how you treat them.. like garbage. You should be supporting and praising good staff, as they are who make the business in the long run, if they are unhappy and come and go as they do the customers notice this. Unfortunate, this is a great location with so much potential but horribly run.
Everything is amazing
Good food . Reasonable prices . Good Service . A favourite of ours.
