Terrible service and worse food

I went to here for a dress rehearsal supper for a friends wedding. The service was amazing privately and I imagine upstairs it is fantastic as well. They also catered and the hunt sauce was so amazing and I dont like mushrooms and I would pour the sauce on everything I could.

So my family ordered take-out, I ordered the schnitzel and paid the extra 8$ for the large. Super disappointed to see how small the large is.

The service was okay, but the food is terrible and has these stupid names. Tuna bowl is raw, and I never saw anything on the menu that said that it was raw, and it has a bad aftertaste as well. Im never going back there ever again.

A great menu with a nice selection of beer to go with it. Will be back, for sure. The staff were amazing, accepting changes to the menu for dietary restrictions, and answering the questions my kids had (does your chef use much salt on the fries?). I rate the overall experience at 5 stars.

Part of my trip is to stop at local breweries. Stopped at the Heid Out and it was awesome. Lauren was my server. Top notch. Had an appy, as I wasn t that hungry, recommended by Lauren. Excellent. Beer was the main reason I was there. Excellent. Not much of a brown type but got my growler filled. Watch the staff move around and fill in and help other tables. Impressive. Next I am through stopping and telling everyone!

Went out for dinner with my mom and her friend to their favorite place; The Heidout. I live out of town and frequent maybe a couple times a year. Two of us ordered the chicken quesadilla, which was great. Except for when the bill came, we were both overcharged. I brought it to our waitress attention in which case the waitress told me oh, i assumed You both wanted a full breast of chicken. I stated it only offered a half breast of chicken under the quesadilla on the menu. No where did it offer a full breast of chicken. The waitress apologized but wouldnt correct the overcharge on both meals. Needless to say, I wont be too excited about returning there again.

Great beer, lively atmosphere, mediocre food, terrible service. Server was sweet, but after an hour, still no food. When it was delivered, it clearly had been under a heat lamp forever (dried out ahi, dried out schnitzel, etc.) Waited another 30 minutes for the check, after telling our server we were finished.

First time here and the place was slammed! Sadly the wait staff didn t mention the kitchen was short staffed. We each ordered 2 appies and expected to be in and out in about an hour. Had we known we might have A) ordered differently or B) come back on a different night. While the food was tasty, two hours for two appies for each of us is twice as long as it should take!!

Second time here, just great.

Wow, bison. Wow, salads. Amazed at the specialized gluten free menu and even celiac offerings. Your locals are so lucky to have this if they need gf or celiac, thanks!

Really enjoyed our time at the Heid Out. Food was good with decent pricing. Large menu with options for special diets. (Asked if we wanted a vegan or GF menu). Service and atmosphere was the best touch though. Staff were fantastic. Great interactions at the table and bar. Great feeling restaurant. Definitely worth a stop if youre in town. Dietary restrictions: Provide seperate menus for vegan and GF options.

Was excited based on other reviews but ended up being disappointed. Calamari was bland, the batter didnt hold on to the squid. The dip was watered down and tasteless. Great vegan options but was mislead by the description. Roasted Squash, Beet, and Kale Salad was 80% kale with small cubes of squash and beet. Cha Sui Prawn had undercooked bok choy. Prawns were the only star of that dish. Patio was great but overall big disappointment.

Update Aug 9th: What can I say, Krista our food guide, was amazing, recommending an excellent drink choice, as well as being so well versed on the menu choices. You can bring everyone here, GF, Celiac, Vegan and all those that love Meat and really well presented meals. This is our must go to in Cranbrook Awesome lunch, with vegan and GF readily available (so you dont feel weird) lovely presentation and our server Luke, was absolutely delightful!

We came here two years ago after learning of the vegan menu. The food was awesome and while busy, we were served quickly at peak busyness and the food was delicious. Now, the vegan menu is a barebones shadow of what was. Between almost waiting an hour for our mains (Kale Salad with an $8 half block of marinated tofu, and the Edamame Bok Choy Linguini), and the poor cohesion of them, we are utterly disappointed. The brownie was massive, coated in sauce and coconut, and delicious. Our Strawberry had a rotten core which rendered most of it inedible. We arent sure what happened, but Im not sure Id like to return to try again anytime soon. Vegetarian options: Items denoted with a V can be made vegetarian or Vegan. There is a reduced Vegan only menu available. $8 for a half block of marinated tofu as an add-on. Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian, Vegan and Celiac Friendly optiona

Came here two years ago and was very happy with the vegan menu and service. Tonight we did not have a very good experience. Our wait was really long and the food kinda bland. The vegan brownie was the best part. Not sure what changed but the current vegan menu could use some work. Our server was very nice though! Might be a while before we return.

After a long day of traveling. We wanted something, but not to filling at the end of the day. Well, the Heidout was perfect. We had the Schnitzel with spatzle dish. And ordered the large order. Perfect to share for 2 people. Blake, our server. Was very accommodating. I had a IPA and my wife had the coffee. The whole experience. Was wonderful. The food was superb. Love the energy of the establishment. Next time were around these parts. Well be sure to come back!

The experience is in the details. The details were missing tonight, I guess I have to blame the Expediter or whoever checks the food before it goes out. We ordered the baked Brie and it came out cold and hard, second time it came out, it was really good. I ordered the Shnitzzel and it came out a little tough. My Wife ordered the Fish and chips and we had to ask for the tarter sauce. Plus the snow pea slaw didnt have any snow peas. Details are important. Our waiter was awesome, his name was Luke, and he was very helpful and patient with us. Actually there was no complaints about the floor staff, they were all nice. If I go out to have a nice meal and spend over a $100 for two, I expect to have a nice experience. Details are important.

It was hot in Cranbrook and they had plenty of air conditioned inside seating. The menu had many options that sounded really good. Our group had the chorizo pasta feature, the Heid Out burger, butter chicken, chicken tenders and the gnocchi. All tasty and good sized portions. The fun beer choices were good and the wine flight was perfect! Only in town for two days and we may end up there again tonight Our server seemed to be very busy and it took a while for our first hello, but food was fast and it was all fine in the end! Kid-friendliness: Brought our young teens. Appropriate and lots of food options.

Highly recommend!! Nice quick service. Friendly staff, even gave us tips about disc golf in the area. Loved the addition of brie to the beef dip, nice touch.

Wouldn t know how the food or atmosphere was as I didn t even get past being put on hold. Waited 15 minutes before hanging up. Tried calling back and the line remained busy. Won t go here as they don t even have the courtesy to answer their phone.

Ugh, rate higher or rate lower? Bare with this review it might be long winded but theres a reason. Lets start with one word to describe this place......sweet like literal sweet. The food has sooo much promise, it really does but they over sweetened everything, like everything. Ok let me explain, I ordered a beer cocktail and granted from the description it should be sweeter but its pretty sweet. Ok lets say thats on me, lets move to a quesadilla. Its more a southwestern style beans, vegan cheese, corn etc. comes with house made salsa, hummus, guac but why the heck is it sweet? Its not a desert. Ok lets move to the Caesar salad. It was good, and could use a smidge more garlic but guess what...... sweet! Why is Caeser salad sweet? (Great question) It has potential to be one of the best vegan Caeser salads around. Ok lets keep moving on, onion rings with a garlic dip, surely that cant be sweet.......WRONG, sweet. What disappoints me the most is the food has potential to be up with the best but they go ahead and add some kind sweetener to everything. I think its agave but who knows. Please owners take this heart, dont change your recipes just leave out or limit the sweetener. Yours truly, I want to love it!

Down right amazing! The schnitzel was the best I ever had. Also the Chewbacca raddler was very taste.

We came with some friends to have the burger of the month. It was a nice burger, the cheese wasnt melted and the patty a bit overcooked for my liking. We also got charged extra for the side of ceasar salad, without being made aware of the cost beforehand. But the part that made me write this review is our daughters meal, the Tuna Poke bowl. The tuna and greens were great but on the bottom were noodles with edamame. The beans had gone bad and also changed the flavor of the noodles, obviously because they were on the bottom of the dish, she didnt taste it until half way through. We mentioned it to the server, she apologized AND we got 10% taken of that meal. 10%??? Really??? That is $2.60 of a $100.00 bill. Shameless. I dont think we will be back.

Korean bowl was great. The Pilsner was outstanding tastes very similar to a quality Czech Pilsner. The music is really good too.

My husband and I are here from out of town looking at some property. We were huge fans of the menu, ambience of the store and had a wonderful waiter named Craig. Good service is hard to find these days and he made us enjoy our first meal in Cranbrook,

After a long day this was our go to, although we were disappointed as it took 1 hour and 10 mins to get our food. The restaurant was cold in temperature , like freezing cold, it was extremely uncomfortable and most other customers ate with sweaters and jackets on. I was so cold at one point I put my arms in my shirt sleeves and then finally covered up with the cloth napkins as I never had a jacket with me. When we told the waitress she didn t truly care and did nothing to fix it. Food was ok but not great. Rice was hard & dry- like it had been sitting too long and they use way too many string beans as a cheap filler with their side of vegetables. We waited far too long to order, to receive refills, and definitely a long amount of time to pay. Waitress didn t ask about any allergies or dietary restrictions which is a red flag in a restaurant of this class. Normally it s a good restaurant but it definitely was a disappointment for dinner. It s extremely costly. Not a place to eat at if you are on a budget. Parking: Paying for parking depends on time of day Kid-friendliness: Not children friendly. It s packed. Seats are closed together and it is loud. Wheelchair accessibility: 100% not disability friendly and no way you can use a wheelchair in this restaurant. Doors are extremely hard to get through as two open back to back and a stair and ramp going up to them. No button to open doors. Doors are narrow. Tables are extremely close together and hard to get around the best of times when it s busy.

I enjoyed my experience at the heidout. Portions were well matched to cost. The service was friendly. Ill go back for sure.

We were there on a Saturday at 5pm just catching the end of happy hr. By 7pm they were packed and it looked like a great night for the service staff.

Went for the Gluten free menu and it did not disappoint. Knowing we can eat here and that they have all the things in place to keep a celiac safe was amazing. Highly recommend and we will be back.

I m not usually disappointed by the Heidout. I d say 9 times out of 10 they re fantastic. Unfortunately we ordered dinner tonight for Valentine s Day, and I ordered the Korean Bulgogi sandwich. It did not come with the slaw that it said it did, and instead had cucumbers on it, which tasted honestly horrible with the bulgogi pulled pork. Typically love the food, but wasn t pleased tonight.

Had the best service tonight. Our server Lukey was seriously so great. He was helpful and accommodating and added experience to the meal. His service reminded me of the way service used to be done. He suggested items from all areas of the menu and made sure to check back that his suggestion hit the spot. When there was an allergy question he took it very serious and we felt cared for. The food was amazing as it usually is at this restaurant. Thank you for the great dinner experience.

A little pricey but good good and atmosphere.

We went in on a Saturday afternoon at around 2 pm and it was very busy. They were seating a table of around 20 as we got there but we were seated quickly and served drinks fast as well. Our server Lukie was extremely attentive and gave us a few suggestions along with the specials. We had the deep fried pickles as a starter and they did not disappoint. They had a delicious batter wrapped around some crunchy pickles with a nice sauce to dip. We ate the AAA beef melt and the curried chicken. The beef melt was delicious with extremely tender meat and onion rings on top. The fries were tasty and crispy with delicious gravy to dip. The curry chicken is a favorite of ours and was amazing as usual. Moist chicken with a delicious curry sauce served on a tasty bed of rice and some yummy vegetables on the side. The service and food are always amazing but somehow Lukie was able to make our experience ever better than normal on an extremely bust day. Thanks again to the amazing cooks and servers.

The beer is fantastic, the Schnitzel is next level, and this is coming from someone who grew up on Schnitzels in Bavaria, and the staff is always very friendly!

The food was good. As a person who is gluten free, not by choice , there a number of menu options. The server was excellent. There was live music which was nice, however at times it was too loud to visit. It shouldnt be like a concert, when the performance is the main focus. Dietary restrictions: The sever was knowledgeable about the gluten free options beyond just handing out the special menu . Also checked with the kitchen on an allergy issue.

So impressed. I have health issues which prohibit me from being able to eat solid food. The chef made me a special lunch- chicken broth and it was fantastic. Never have I had broth so tasty and full of flavour. The service was amazing, the waiter was so fun and helpful!

Got their $40 burger expecting to be blown away, instead i got the most greasy burger Ive ever had and instead of crispy bacon got cheap sandwich salami. I will not be going back or recommending to anyone.

The Cesars are sweeter than the usual. The Cesars are better than the usual.

The gnocchi was disappointing. The dish is a large serving of peas with some pieces of gnocchi.

Service was outstanding. I noticed just how much all of the servers doted on their customers. It was refreshing. Beers very tasty. I had the duck Luksa. I enjoyed it but its presentation was nonsense.

Definitely our favorite place to eat in Cranbrook. Great food, awesome craft beer, and love the atmosphere. The food is always really good, but last time we were there it has gotten even better. Would love to see some new stuff on the menu

Our server was Justin and he was absolutely amazing. I asked for a beer flight and asked him to pick, he did a perfect job. Also picked a great beer for my mom. Food was very tasty and well presented Will definitely be a return customer whenever Im back visiting.

This was our second time in Cranbrook in 5 years and our second time at the Heid out. It was much smaller the last time we were here and much more personal, but still had a good time. Service was awesome for most of it, until he forgot to bring our dessert, but otherwise spot on. Food was a solid 5 stars for 3 out of 4 people in our party. I had an amazing clam and mussel dish. Beer was excellent. I miss the smaller Heid out from the years ago, but I will come back when I come back to Cranbrook.

Mixed bag of customer service. First visit was great. Food was tasty and service was friendly. Terrible experience on return trip a week later. Female manager claimed patio was closed early, refused to let us order online, and said that menu was restricted early. Be warned of inconsistent service. This is my favorite restaurant in Cranbrook. My husband and I have come here on several occasions and recently had our wedding reception dinner in the event room. Every experience was seamless, and Rusty was extremely helpful in the planning and execution on our event. Justin, our server on the big night, was amazing and everyone said they had a great time with great food. Rusty even went out of his way to help us with our wedding cake when our original plans fell through. I will forever recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good time.

I was really disappointed in The Heidout after reading such glowing reviews. The restaurant was filled to 40-50% occupancy (at most) and there were ample seats still open at the bar. The hostesses turned us away saying they couldnt accept anybody else into the restaurant. We offered to sit at the bar and order drinks until they were ready to accommodate guests in the restaurant again but they said no. They were not kind. Very dismissive and this happened 2 nights in a row. It is such a shame. Restaurants get busy, or have problems in the kitchen that require a slow down to service and that is understandable, but patrons should be able to have a drink and wait while basking in the atmosphere. To turn people away when there are so many open seats and a fully open bar (seats available) feels like you dont care. Not what I expected from what I had read about this place. We found 2 great restaurants (F&B and The Fire Hall) that were very welcoming (and the food delicious). I would go somewhere else if you have limited time in this beautiful community.

Staff were more concerned what was on their phones than taking care of customers. Food wasnt ok but not like it once was. Our guests from out of town werent impressed but perhaps was a off night. Will definitely be back for a second chance as I know they are better than this.

Very much enjoyed our visit here earlier this month. The burger my lady ordered was super good, she managed to eat the entire thing which is uncommon. The salad I ordered was wonderful as well. Our waitress was very personable and gave a great recommendation for my beverage (a combination of a two different IPAs I believe they call a Dab?), And it was excellent as well. I recommend this establishment and look forward to our next visit.

Excellent beer and food in a good atmosphere. Food was really good (had the schnitzel and a bowl) but the beer was exceptional - tried the Scottish and Porter.

After a month of travelling BC and Alberta Ive found the best brewery and best beer in my opinion. Had 3 different dark beers, top notch. My better half had 2 IPAs and the Wheat beer which she enjoyed too.Great service, live music, huge starters, we had fish tacos and the stuffed yorkies.

A lot of people, our waitress wasn t able to give us proper service due to lack of staff. Went in as a group of three spent $130, our meals were less than adequate. Poutine was incredibly salty, fish and chips were VERY undercooked & soggy. Two gluten free meals, one vegan meal and we left feeling sick. Atmosphere was loud and tables were placed to close together. As per this visit I wouldn t recommend.

Expensive but worth it. Best lunch I have had in awhile. Would definitely go again!

Great little local restaurant with good food and even better staff. Were served by Mia who did a fantastic job, drinks refilled, friendly conversation and just impressed us and made us want to come back, which we will be sure to do next time we are in Cranbrook.

I dont often review as I am usually not impressed; however, I certainly was impressed tonight. Service, food and drinks were all exceptional. Thanks Jenny for bringing the food, fun and flare to our dining experience. Highly recommend this establishment.

Food was exactly what I was looking for: clean/healthy/delicious, Casual atmosphere. Hunter, or server, was excellent at helping me work thru modifications related to food sensitivities. Hubbie had Triple A steak sandwich he loved it. My grilled veggies ++ grilled chicken was spot on. Forget the chain restaurants - this independent was worth the visit.

Food was very good. I had gnocchi dish. A bit bright for restaurant/pub atmosphere however clean, busy and friendly. I would go back.

We can not say enough wonderful things about Heidi, Jordan, Rusty and the rest of the amazing staff at the Heid Out. We have had them cater our staff Christmas party the past few years. The food is always top notch and the prices are more than reasonable. They work hard to pull off an event that is stress free and enjoyable for all of our staff! Highly recommend!

Our server Alissa was great! She had excellent table manners and was very friendly. However I cannot say the same about the food. Everything besides the burger was at best mediocre.Overall, the Heidout has a good atmosphere and great staff, but the food is somewhat unimpressive for such a nice restaurant.

Seen a bill board about Fisher Peak Brewery so I went here and bought 2 6 packs. It was nice as we discussed the different ones we were able to sample them. Would go here again. The restaurant seemed good and not overpriced but I did not eat here

Went for early Mother s Day dinner (was my first time there). Two of us had the beef dip which was excellent..son in law had the Heidout Burger which was also very good. Great atmosphere, selection of spirits and our server was exceptional!!

These guys get it so right. Perfect juicy burgers, every single time! Heidout burger is so perfect, I still haven t gotten to ordering other fab items on their menu. Also great beers and interiors.

They opened up the patio for us and another couple so we could sit out with our dogs. They were super swamped and we still had a great time with excellent service and food/drinks.

Good food, great service. Appreciated the recommendation between the duck and schnitzel. Went with the schnitzel and really enjoyed it, could have done it without the cheese though. If youre looking for good beer and craving Schnitzel this should be your go to place.

Great first time experience here. My partner and I ate off the vegan menu. I got the falafel burger and Caesar salad and my partner had the quesadillas. Both were delicious and filling. The service was great and the food came quickly. We will definitely be back next time we visit Cranbrook.

The Heidout is a favourite go to for my parents and previously when it was Heidi s it was my favourite before I moved. Great service, amazing food and very generous portions. I ordered the Pulled Pork Spaetzle and my parents ordered the Fish and Chips. Thank you once again for a wonderful evening

It was rather busy so we had to leave for a bit, but once we were seated, the staff was very personable and gracious. In spite of their being overwhelmed, the drinks and food came quickly and was quite tasty

Had a great rainy experience yesterday for dinner. We decided to sit outside, and it started raining. There wasnt an available table inside for us to move to, so our server, Luke, went above and beyond to set up umbrellas and continuing to serve us in the pouring rain. Food was amazing. Overall, great experience.

Great food in a lively atmosphere. We had pickled fingers, jaegar schnitzel and salmon. All were delicious. They were very busy, which led to us waiting a long time for service which was not too much problem as we had all evening.

Went there for their gluten free menu. Very busy but still great service. Meal was amazing. Generous serving size. Everyone one in our party was more then pleased.

Had an absolutely fantastic meal and our waiter Malik was amazing. My wife couldnt decide between two dishes and he had the most helpful recommendations and described the dishes like he was on the Food Network. Highly recommend!

Fantastic service, great food and tasty beer. Lukie was far the best server we have had in the valley during our whole vacation! If you are travelling Hwy 3 in BC well worth the stop.

The young guy seating guests was really good, polite and courteous. Unfortunately we waited at our table for 20 minutes without anyone taking a drink order, dropping off water or acknowledging our existence in any way. At the twenty minute mark we decided to simply leave with our hunger and anticipation to try the local beers. Its too bad, I was really looking forward to it and was happy to have found a decent gluten-free menu for my dad. A star for the young guys service and one for the ambience of the place.

I have to say very disappointed in our dinner tonight. I have eaten atbtge heidout many times and was left with a feeling of why. We ordered takeout for 4 people and were told it would ready at 8PM. My wife never returned home until 8:55PM. When we got into our meals, there was a mistake on one, we had ordered a large schnitzel and received a half order and my usual yorkies were dried out and hard the Yorkshire as well as the meat and had no sprouts or sauce on them. When we called down Luke did make the schnitzel order correct but i had to return and pick it up therefore making my dinner cold. The only reason they get 2 stars is because they did correct the mistake. Not very satisfied with the amount of money i spent as well as the meal.

Food, service, and beer were outstanding!

We eat here whenever we re in Cranbrook. The food and drinks are great. Our server Anya was super pleasant to chat with. The whole menu seems good. We haven t found anything we don t really like yet. The felafel burger is amazing. My wife took home a 6 pack of their Radler and the prices were really reasonable.

Came here based on the gluten free options. Initially waited 20 minutes for someone to greet us and come take a drink order. Thankfully when the waiter did show up, he was very nice- and the food was fantastic! Had the masala poutine and the gluten free fish and chips. Both were delicious.

This is an amazing restaurant!! They not only have gluten free and vegan menus they have entirely dedicated kitchen and fryers! I have A LOT of food allergies and our fantastic server, Luke, was wanting every allergy I have so that he can take it to the kitchen to make my dining experience a safe one. Shortly after taking all the orders back to the kitchen, the sous chef Jo came out to go over every ingredient in my fish and chips order to ensure that everything was safe for me to eat. I have never had such a relaxing meal out with such caring staff. My husband was so appreciative of the level of attention, he bought the kitchen a round of drinks for after their shift. We sat on the patio, which is beautiful, and it was perfect! The server was great and the food was superb! I had the shrimp tacos and they were delicious as always! Really good food and craft beer in a trendy, casual atmosphere. I noticed too that all the servers appeared to be enjoying their shift. Had a little issue with the check (there was an item on there that we didn t order) but caught that and it was resolved. Will definitely go again next time we pass through.

Food and drinks were great. Atmosphere fun. Lots of great gf and veg options. Service was painfully, ridiculously slow but it was a busy night.

How is this not 5/5 stars?! This was one of the best experiences I have had at a pub. The Alpine Schnitzel was so delicious could not get enough. The cheese and marinara sauce complemented it very well. The cheesecake was so creamy I will be thinking about for days.

Definitely recommend this brewery if you are in the area. Amazing beer, food and service! If you like IPA beer, make sure to get the hazy IPA.

I was riding through here on the way home to California. What a gem, the hotel clerk was right! Don t waste your time with other restaurants in the area. Perfect schnitzel, creative menu and fantastic service. Did I mention the brewer has an exceptional touch at making common beer uncommonly good? Pilsner, IPA etc. I will absolutely ride another 1000 miles to eat here again.

First time and we will be back!!! Fantastic food and Luke our server was extremely knowledgeable and made great recommendations which we followed. You can tell that making the customer happy is Lukes main concern. Great atmosphere, portions are large and the price was right. Highly recommend!

We had our Christmas gathering there. Excellent service from Beth. Meals were great! Only complaints were lack of portions on the appies(especially charcuterie platter). Im sure we will be back there for our party again next year.

Passing through Cranbrook around lunch time and whataya know, local brewery score! Nice selection of darker beers for a chilly winter afternoon. Excellent variety of menu options from poke to pub classics and on to a yummy paneer masala. The Bigfoot Burger was definitely enough for 2 or great leftovers. Sweet potato fries were done to perfection. They have beer to go so one neednt try all at a single sitting. They are very accommodating of large groups if thats your sitch. Theres a full bar that does craft cocktails as well. Parking meter street parking was available on the bustling main drag, we parked further away to take in a nice stroll of the town center.
