Our office orders here a lot. Nothing fancy, just good chinese food. But please for the love of god put another fish and some objects in that tank out front. That one fish has been alone for years with nothing but an empty tank. Its depressing.

I am Celiac and this place has a whole Gluten Free Menu. The staff are very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Its nice to have somewhere I can have Chinese food as I love it so much. Dietary restrictions: I have Celiac. Fans has a great Gluten Free menu.

Always the best place in Halifax for dim sum

Ive been here twice and both times I ordered fried beef river. It tastes really great, the oil is so fragrant! Compared with the Niu He from Diandu De in Shanghai, the taste is a bit inferior. And this quantity is also very sufficient, equivalent to 1.5 times that of Diantou. But taking into account the 15% tip and 15% tax, one portion costs nearly 100 yuan. I only come here to spend money on important and festive days. Kid-friendliness: Suitable for children with Chinese stomachs.

Love the food here! Celiac safe, eaten there many times and never had an issue. They have a huge gluten free menu and have many fried dishes that are safe. I LOVE the lemon chicken. Dietary restrictions: Never had an issue with gluten (celiac) and the menu of safe items is huge!

Best dim sum in the province. We go several weekends for brunch. You will need to learn what their specialties are that line up with your palate, but once you do, you will be going back for more and more. The only negative is the Siu Mai is really gross which is disappointing, but the YUM spicey wontons make up for it

Best dim sum since Great Wall stopped serving dim sum. Not sure if there are any other options but I m not mad at having to go to fans. Never been disappointed

If you want to eat, don t order from here, I almost never write a negative review but I m genuinely so bothered by this. We ordered when my fiance got off work at 5:56 as you can see in the screen shot below, the estimated ready time was 6:36. We arrived to the restaurant at 6:35 and my fiance goes in and they inform her that our order had just come through. And it would be another 15 minutes. At that point the host disappeared and 20 minutes later still hadn t returned. By quarter after 7 having not seen anyone to even ask about our order so we decided to leave. At 8:45 we finally received a notification that our order was ready. When in there the restaurant was practically empty, but two others had come and gone with orders, and one other person was waiting and had been there as long as we had.

Food is great as always but the real shout out goes out to the new server, it was the best service Ive had anywhere in years. Keep up the good work, cant wait to be back!

Authentic dim sum. Worth trying!

I haven t been to Fans in several years. Went in for takeout on a Thursday at 5 PM. There were six people in the restaurant. Not busy. I Ordered food and sat and waited as items came out. No one approached me with my takeout order, although I was sitting right in front of them. After close to 20 mins, I went up and asked, and the food had been ready and just sitting on the shelf. No heat counter in sight. The item I ordered was tasteless. The ginger beef batter was soggy, not crispy, which was odd since there was no sauce in the box whatsoever. The vegetables were limp and the rice was not fresh. Even the egg roll had no flavour. I had a few bites and ended up composting 90 percent of the $24 meal with tip. I am not sure if original owners no longer own the restaurant or the next generation has taken over. All of the servers and staff were younger. It s unfortunate, because it was a place that had good service and tasty food in the past. As I said, I hadn t been there in years, and I won t be back.

I used to love this place. I drove from an hour away to pick up their ginger beef, and it was dry, rubbery and bland. Wheres the sauce? Honestly terribly disappointing.

I went for lunch here with family a few weeks ago. It was during the time on the weekend where they give you one of those cards to select what you want. Had I known this I would have looked in advance since ordering this way can be a bit overwhelming for me (usually just used to ordering a Combo A or B and the like and am not super familiar with specific types of sushi). I did get a regular combo (chicken and almond guy ding with rice). The server was nice (especially when trying to explain the special ordering menu to my relative and then agreeing to bring him something that was like seafood and rice). It did take what seemed like a bit of time to get our food however it was during peak serving hours on a weekend so I would not call the wait excessive. The quality of my food seemed a little above what you would normally get when ordering a standard combo form a Chinese restaurant. It was nice and hot as well. food was They brought my family member a rice pudding dish with sea food which they were not happy about. It took a while to get the servers attention and then they sent someone else over to deal with my relative. They were then given what looked like just some rice with sea food items mixed in. My relative was not happy when they tried to charge them for the first dish they bought them (but to be fair they were not very clear on what they wanted and think the server did their best to meet what they were asking). So, my relative complained until they took it off the bill (at this point they were in such a mood they barley ate any of the 2nd dish they were brought). So a kudos to the staff for dealing calmly with someone who was acting a bit privileged. There is a big paring lot out front and the lay out of the establishment does seem to be designed so that it could accommodate those with mobility need. Also, well lit but the decoder also leaves a bit to be desired. Probably won t be going back here anytime soon but it was more about my company then the actual quality and service in the establishment.

Great setting a Lil awkward. Substitute one item and didnt get my chicken balls Also for some reason. Poor rating because they messed up order and also food was terrible.

What I want is twice-cooked pork and fried garlic. I didn t even know what the twice-cooked pork was, but what he stir-fried for me contained cabbage, carrots, green peppers, mushrooms and a few slices of lean meat. There was no fat at all. Its still salty. Could this be twice-cooked pork? As for the garlic moss, I can t bite it at all, it s too old. This is the second time Ive eaten at his house. Disappointed every time. Farewell!

The food here is amazing. They have an entire gluten free menu available and the gluten free food tastes SO GOOD!!! The prices are super affordable, an entire meal for three people was just under ! $60 and that included drinks. The service makes you feel at home. We had four different people checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. They also remembered us when we returned. The wait staff is also incredibly kind and patient. Honestly probably the best service I ve ever received. This restaurant is a new family favourite. Thank you Fans! Fans Im not mad at you because my take home container busted because you stuffed it so full of delicious chow mein. I know you tried to put more into it, but it just couldnt hold any more. And thats why youre the best. Top quality and quantity. I love Fans!

My family comes here to have dim sum on weekends regularly. Today we had incident that I think I should write a review to bring owners attention. We ordered a dish that waitress said plate is super hot please be careful then she put right i front of my 16 months old baby. I had food in my mouth didn t pay attention to who that was. I saw my baby was putting her hand on the plate and I stopped right at that moment. Damn, It s HOT, it almost cause a burn mark on my finger tip. Imaging if that happen to my baby, she would be crying instantly for a while and ruining our mood for brunch. For that being said, I know it s a busy spot during weekend morning. But please pay attention to details, I didn t bring my baby out for lunch to get her hurt. I m pretty sure for at least dozen children in the restaurant no parents would want that happen. I hope it won t happen again.

This is the only place I go to for dim sum in HRM. Shrimp dumplings, fried beef noodles, fried shrimp spring rolls will be ordered every time I come.

Was recently invited here to try authentic Chinese food. A friend did the ordering and we got to try some amazing dishes. Ginger beef is amazing and they presented a beautiful lobster dish. Will definitely be going again!

Love their egg rolls and the homemade plum sauce.

We were a big group. Had a nice table in an area to ourselves. Food came quite quickly and was yummy. Selection for the individual dinners was a bit limited but not bad. Potions were very generous. Folks took food home with them. The restaurant did run out of fortune cookies which was disappointing.

The first two times I went to fans I was gushing about how incredibly good their food was and the good portions. But the third time I went the food was so bad I had to throw one of them out. So disappointed, I dont know if Im going to give them a fourth try or not.

Typhoon shelter lobster is not bad

Authentic Cantonese Dim-sum. You have to come earlier on Sat&Sun if youd like to order egg tart or duck wings or pork shank. The service was OK. Dont know why stir-fried noodles with beef takes so long.

Food was better than the service..we were seated, our order was taken by our waitress and she never returned to our table, the cook brought our food to the table while we could see our waitress along with the others in the kitchen eating and wiping their faces in between bites... No one came to see if our food was good or if we needed more drinks... we werent even given glasses of water when seated... or even asked if we wanted water...the serving size was barely enough for 1 person, let alone 3.. Was the absolute worst service Ive ever experienced at a restaurant, i urge anyone who stays at the Comfort Inn across the street to go elsewhere!!!! ..take a five minute drive and go down the road !

Morning tea does not accept reservations. If you are late for a minute, you will have to wait for an hour

Good food

The last time I will ever eat there. The veggies were hard, rice was burnt & only 6 pieces of chicken. The meet egg roll was mushy. I ate the chicken that was all. When I asked for a discount, waiter informed me he was not authorized to do that. I said surely there must be someone here that can discuss customer complaints. I was told NO. It was always a fairly nice place to eat. Not any more. Oh, by the way it was supper time on a Thursday, I was the one & only customer in the entire place. Not recommended. Great Dim Sum weekends!

Best sweet and sour in town and their plum sauce is killer. Even their beef and broccoli sauce is rich and flavorful (not something common in NS). Sadly the staff are often in the weeds. Food often doesnt come up together so youre waiting for your guests.

Chicken fried rice was dried out. Pork ribs was mostly fat/ gristle, Veggies werent close to cooked, Egg rolls ( gross) sweet & some chicken was ok, but not sure what they used for sauce as it was very strong tomato base taste.. the spring roll was delious.

We went for our first time with my Brother and his partner. We arrived about 3 PM for a early dinner, late lunch! It was not busy. My brother and his partner have eaten here before, and had takeout many times. We all ordered from the Dinner for one part of the EXTENSIVE!!! menu. Specifically to that part of the menu, they are all basically the same, the difference between the four choices is the meat part and /or (I think) one choice is for Vegans. The serving amount was great, not one of us was able to finish, (we did take doggie bags!) The ADD part ...I think, we all need to come up with a new term reference for the stuff we take home, as a dog owner, that term carries a significant reference that is NOT a nice thought, ...when it comes to food! ...Back to the review, We are adding this place to our we will return list!

Four of us had a delicious feast at this restaurant recently. This is the tastiest Chinese food I have eaten in quite a long time. We started with the dumplings and wontons which were excellent. In fact, I m going to say that I ve never had wontons anywhere as good as these! Everyone in our group was very happy with their meal and we will definitely return. The service was very good as well.

Love their Dim Sum. Very tasty. We have been there many times and will return there. The only reason I dont give 5 stars for the food is they dont serve mango shrimp rolls and I love mango shrimp rolls but I havent been able to find a restaurant that serves them for years. Otherwise their Dim Sum is great and we often order take out Dim sum (which we freeze at home) while we are eating there so we can have it at home another weekend. It saves driving in for an hour for a Dim sum fix as we usually get a take out that is good for 3 meals.

Surprisingly neat little place. A hidden gem! Had the lunch special #6. Made me want to try them all.

Ordered takeout food here for my birthday early September. The noodle item I bought has burnt parts so it made the dish bitter; they didn t have the effort re-make it. Sad. A bit pricey, too. Most of my orders were great, though.

It was my first time to eat this kind of thickened boiled beef, and it was an eye-opener!

Everything we ordered had the same gravy and flavour with lots of soya sauce. Vegetables used in the curry was not fresh and was too soaked in soya.

Were frequent customer in this restaurant before, havent visit since I got pregnant. Now day we want to have a dim sum with my friends and families. Called on Friday tried to book a table for 6 people and 3 infants for Sunday morning. Been told I have to call back on Saturday to book for Sunday dim sum. Thats fine, then we called on Saturday, same guy picked up the phone, we clearly said we have 3 infants, thats why we want to hold a table for Sunday. The guy said they only do first come first serve, and couldnt hold a table for us. Thats totally different story from he said on Friday. Why you are expecting we call back on Saturday if you only do FCFS? Cloud any parents hold their infants waiting over 30mins outside for a table? Very disappointed and will never come back again.

Weve eaten here a few years ago and enjoyed it, but my husband has since then had to stop eating gluten. What a delightful surprise to find them shown as gf online, and even better to be presented with a lengthy gf menu when we arrived. The food was awesome, the staff was attentive even though they were busy. The food arrived with a knowledgeable person who cautioned on the dish I had ordered, which wasnt gf (i can eat gluten but it showed a good deal of care). The atmosphere was one of co-operation between the staff...I love when I see that !

Was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food that was served. All the dishes ordered were piping hot and plentiful. Staff are so friendly. Dining room was very clean and nicely spaced. I will definitely be back, next time with more people. Left with lots of leftovers.

I am not one to ever leave a review but after spending over 120 for 3 people and the duck was dry and the other dishes had no meat and bland veggies, the fried rice was steamed and tossed in the wock with shrimp. First time having Dim Sum. Wait staff kept forgetting about us. To be fair they were busy, but would forget to bring us multiple items repeatedly. Not my thing over all, food was decent.

Ordered take out nothing special requests 1 dinner combo and 2 extra egg rolls. They charged us for it but didnt get our extra rolls. Food was good not great. Had better from other restaurants. Will give 3.5 overall Food

I wish this place was closer to where I live. The food and service is great. I wish spring rolls good be switched with egg rolls for no additional charge. Plum sauce and sweet and sour sauce are delicious.

Dim Sum: Not as good as it should be. Most of dim sum has less stuffing (we had a lot of dishes but forgot to take a photo). Entree Dish; Relatively good and tasty. We loved Stir fry fish with XO sauce and braised beef brisket. Service hours; Unexpected close without online announcement. Wasting my time to drive to Dartmouth.

Best Chinese in Halifax, and probably Atlantic Canada.

Very popular spot for Dim Sum. Price is good. But make sure you get there early. We got there around 11:30 and had to wait 45 min also some of the popular dish was sold out like my favorite turnip cake.

My daughter and I had dinner at Fan s today for the first time. We were impressed with the prompt, friendly attentive service, delicious quality food and affordable prices. We had a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back ~ highly recommended !

We have not eaten in the physical resturant since Covid but before Covid I never had a bad experience with the food. Over the years the quality has wavered between alright and great but as of the last time we actually ate in, it was pretty decent. They do a very good and consistent job of some of their popular dishes like the ginger beef. On that note, they have my second favorite ginger fried beef in the whole city. Im not an expert in genuine chinese food but to me it seems like their dishes focus more on western chinese food as opposed to genuine mainland China type chinese food. Lately, during Covid, we have gotten a Peking duck for each Christmas. They do an excellent job on the duck. The skin is nice and crisp, the meat is not over cooked and the sauce the duck is basted in is delicious. I do not know if they make their own hoisin sauce, but the one that comes with the duck is great - not too salty nor so strong that it out competes the rest of the flavors. I highly recommend ordering a Peking duck from them(see their website, you have to order ahead due to the preperation time) for any special occasion or if you just want a nice treat.

Terrible meal. Our bill was $280 and it wasnt worth $28. Most of the food tasted burnt or it was so dry it wasnt fit to eat. We complained but nothing was done. Needless to say we didnt leave a tip. And we left a table full of food behind.

Though I really love the food at Fan s our first delivery experience was horrible. An hour after we d ordered, I called because our food wasn t here. We were told that the food had left and should be here soon. Twenty minutes later and still no food so I called back. They called the driver and told me 10 more minutes. Almost 15 minutes passed and the driver showed up as I was calling to cancel the order because our food had been in the car at least 45 minutes. We sent the food back and called the restaurant to let them know we had sent the food back with the driver. It s now 8:15 pm, almost 2 hours after I ordered dinner & now we need to figure out something else. The restaurant was very apologetic but didn t do anything else. No replacement food, no discount on a future order, not even a couple of free spring rolls for our next order. I m very disappointed and very hungry

Hands down the most authentic dim sum in Maritime Canada. Extremely close to what you can get in Canto China. Need more effort in that Changfen ( rice noodle roll) , other than that pretty good.

The experience was nice, the atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing and calm. The food all came out quite quick and it all tasted great.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Worst service Ive ever experienced. Yesterday my children were excited to bring me out for fathersday for the first time as they are still little. We were in line 15 minutes before opening and the 4th table to be let in. We ordered within 5 minutes then spend 1 full hour with a 4 and a 2 year old, watching every table around us, including ones that came in 15 minutes after us, be served, eat, and in a few cases finish and leave. After 1 hour I asked a server what was going on, they ran to the kitchen and came back saying our order was almost ready even though it was the same dumplings as everyone around us. I talked to the manager, told them to cancel our table, and that we were leaving and would never be back. I had heard from friends how good the dimsum was, but this was the worst service Ive even gotten. My kids cried because they forgot us. You ruined their fathers day surprise. Zero stars.

Curtailed size of each dish and boom up the price, pandemic becomes the perfect excuse for the restaurant owner to extort customer. Two girls order just few dishes cost $45/ per person. will never come back

5 for service-price-quantity. 4 for taste. Spring rolls were one of the best and they are big as egg roll size. Recommend trying the combo options (5-6) for one person, so you get to taste multiple dishes in single serving. Parking: Free parking (parking lot)

Best Chinese food in Halifax!!

Did not like the food. Taste was not very appealing. Asked for ginger beef and was served just plain beef. Thete was absolutely no ginger in this dish at all.

Disappointed because all the dim sum were previously frozen and probably bought from some food factory. Nothing special here. $110 for these frozen dim sum - overpriced.

Great Chinese food

The dim sum wasn t as good as our first time there. Between the wait time, restaurant ambiance, and overall taste, I think I d choose Chinatown restaurant over Fan s. Don t get me wrong, the food is still delicious though especially for those who live in Dartmouth, hence, the four stars.

One of only 2 places to eat Dim Sum in Halifax, Food is great, service too. The atmosphere is bland, All the cool stuff is up at the counter when you pay for your meal. Couldnt get over how busy the place was when it opened at 11 am, showed up at 11:15 and there already was a 30 min wait ! Food is that good !

Went here many years ago around 4pm and there was a few tables with asian people eating in and the 2 servers looked at me like a rich person would look at a peasant and they said all snobby like sorry but we are closed giving me attitude and acting like i had a disease or something, all i could do is laugh and walk out what a joke i dont know if a triad meeting was happening or they just dont like the whites but hopefully theyve gotten new management since then, coulda swore i was a black man going to a white restaurant in the 1800s

Morning tea was okay, but the standard of dinner was really disappointing. The tofu was not fresh (although it was refunded). I ordered more than 10 dishes. Except for the two staple dishes of claypot rice and dry-fried beef river, the taste of other dishes None of them are up to standard, which is a bit disappointing.

Delicious Chinese food. The unique one is they offer you the different taste for the subject to the Canadian or Chinese. Reasonable price. Hot Chinese tea is available or ice water. Hope they offer Dim Sum during the weekday.

We ordered takeout from across the street and two hours later still didn t get our order. We cancelled and ordered elsewhere!! Do not recommend!!

Nova Scotia Cantonese style morning tea In Dartmouth, most Chinese restaurants only serve morning tea on Saturdays and Sundays. There are probably not as many Chinese here as there are in Toronto. On Saturday, there were many Chinese people coming for morning tea in the restaurant, and one-third of them were foreigners. It was full and the tables could be turned over two or three times. The taste is quite average, similar to Cantonese morning tea. There arent too many varieties. If you have it, its better than nothing. Most of the waiters are international students and they are all polite. There are also some children who are full of personality and need further training. Tipping must be adequate to support these young international students.

I will never be back. My meal was terrible. The meat was so fatty I was gagging. Service was bad. Spring roll was good though.

First Chinese food I ve had in 2 years! They have an entire celiac menu and everything was delicious! They did a great job at making it taste just like the regular thing for being gluten free, they even made me a combo plate upon request even though it s not on their menu. Service was great and food was delicious if you re looking for gluten free Chinese food definitely go here! Highly recommend!

Was so happy they have such a large gluten free selection. It was all perfect. We had a large take out order, was ready when we arrived.

Friendly prompt service. GREAT food. Highly recommended. We ordered the Szechuan duck, ginger beef is battered and just what I was looking for! Very covid safe with tables spread out with dividers. A must try for sure.

We ordered mixed vegetables in garlic sauce, XO fish fillet and beef with three kinds of mushrooms for delivery. They were all excellent.

When you spend 117.00 you expect hot food. The rice was chewy, chicken balls dry and the sweet and sour sauce is more of a juice than sauce. Sorry but for my experience I give 1 star. However it is possible that this is not the norm. I dont know it was our first time buying there.

The waiter is too poor, she insulted us after raising the food problem, and her attitude is extremely bad, which makes the group of us were very unhappy.

Come for Fan s authentic Cantonese dim sum on Saturday and Sundays. The place was busy when we went on Saturday at 1 pm. We ordered off a sheet of paper that didn t have price but had the sizes of the dishes which probably corresponded to a price somewhere if you asked. We got our food pretty quickly and I must say, even though the portions looked small, they were very filling. We ordered 8 dishes and had to grab 2 take out boxes for what we couldn t finish. We enjoyed the cilantro and shrimp dumplings and the custard bun the most. All in all, we paid around $50+ for everything and it was worth it as Fan s is the best dim sum place that we ve tried in the HRM.

Terrible food, service was meh. The food was so bad that I think Im turned off Chinese food forever after this experience. Nothing exciting in the flavours, just msg flavoured veggies, nothing to get excited about. The japenese cuisine in the area is a million times better so theres a silver lining at least.

Wait for 40mins for food and finally was told most of them are sold out. Waiting for another 20mins to get the food ready. Service was bad, asking for water 4-5 times.

Visiting Halifax from Toronto. Their Saturday Dim Sum is not bad. After days of eating lobsters and scallops, happy to find this place for authentic Cantonese style Chinese food. Porridge is good. Stirred fried rice is meh. Service is decent with Covid-19 measures in place. Took forever to pay our bills tho.

This is an amazing place, our last experience will make us reconsider eating here again. We waited for our table and got skipped over because our number was copied down incorrectly. We had to go looking for two of our dishes and needed to go find servers for drinks, the bills and take out containers. Not checked on once for nearly an hour. It was busy, but there should be a minimum for service.

Terrible service & food today. We have been regular customers for some time. Only 1 person in the restaurant and took over 50 min for our meals (just regular combos) my meal was made wrong,had to send back. Food came back Terrible the rice was nothing but mush. I could not eat it. No apology no nothing. Had to ask for napkins s&p. Will not be back here. Could not bring my husband his water. Brought the wrong pop, my water had no ice.

So yummy! Its been a long time since we have been here.... it did not disappoint.

We ordered couple dishes, most of them were fine except the Palace style shrimp (in Chinese ). I was expecting the shrimps to be cooked in chinese cooking wine, but they gave us sweet and sour deep fried shrimp which was disgusting. We didnt touch the dish after the first try. If youre from Vancouver/Toronto and craving for real chinese food, you will find this place disappointing. :(

Were from BC and came here for lunch because we want to try the Chinese style lobster. They have a lunch special menu. The food portion is quite big, we had a lot of left overs. The service speed is kinda slow, but its understandable since we ordered a lobster. Its nice that they have the lobster readily available on the menu, as many Chinese restaurant ask you to either reserve a lobster beforehand or bring your own. Food flavour is decent, a bit on the salty side. Id recommend coming here if you want to try Chinese style lobster, price is very reasonable.

The is one of the few places in Halifax that serves Dim Sum. Overall an okay experience, the food was alright and the service was questionable at times. Always expect a wait here.
