Ela! Greek Taverna Restaurant-Dartmouth in Dartmouth

Food was good but nothing great. Had the chicken penne which is basically an Alfredo, wasnt worth $27. Wouldnt return.

For the meal I ordered, I could have had much more satisfaction elsewhere when considering the total price after tip. I got the chicken souvlaki, which was underseasoned. The Greek salad came on the plate with it, but could literally fit in the palm of my hand, it was so little. They must count out their olives and tomatoes (two each). I usually dont have room for dessert when eating out, but I did due to the dinner not being enough. I ordered the first dessert on the menu. When something says whipped cream, I am anticipating actual dairy product whipped cream. Put whipped topping when it is clearly an edible oil product. Was the phyllo pastry supposed to be soggy? Very disappointing meal.

Have had lunch here as well as dinner. Really good fresh food. Authentic and tasty roasted potatoes!! Friendly service and an open bright modern decor. I wish I had Greek food close to me that was even half as good as this! Coming back next time Im in town!

Im a first-time customer. The restaurant is beautiful, the service is fast and friendly and the food is divine. I had the salmon shawarma, and the fish portion was thick and perfectly cooked.

Food was alright, nothing memorable. Salad was great though. Service was top notch, atmosphere was typical and music seemed dated and lacking, like an enya tape on repeat. Otherwise an alright time.

I loved the Greek Salad, my husband loved the spaghetti. The wine was great and the aperol spritz was delicious. Great Service. I thought there could be less lettuce in the salad.

Great Lamb options did not disappoint!!

By far one of my favourite places to eat when I take a trip into the city. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is perfect and the staff is friendly, and friend. They offer suggestions, and the best ones at that. The bread and oil is also one of my favourite things about the entire experience and you can buy it directly at the restaurant. Definitely recommend going in and experiencing Elas!

This Ela s location was a big disappointment. Had to send a salad back bc the vegetables were grey. The rest of the food was bad to okay. Service was nice though with friendly and attentive waitstaff. Would not recommend this location, but the location Bayer s Lake is consistently amazing.

Always great place to visit yummy food

I am normally such a fan of Ella, I come often for evenings out and work lunches. This evening is the first time that I have been so disappointed in the food here. The service was really good as always, professional and polite. Our meal quality was disappointing this evening, our appetizer was tough (calamari) and our main meal, the lettuce was gritty and seemed not washed, although they assured us it was, and time of year etc it was not edible. So the conditions don t excuse that we had poor Greek Salads (which was our main course) We didnt eat them they actually that bad. As a fan of this restaurant, I was very disappointed this evening Which we shared our feedback with our server who accepted graciously and sent us on our way. Update: We still have never returned to Ela. Its been over a year, but the experience with the food and the excuse to why it was dirt gritty lettuce still is not acceptable to me.

Having been to Greece and Having authentic Greek food, I was a bit disappointed. The gyros is nothing like what I was used to. Spoke to the waitress and she was amazing. Made me something similar. It was ok. The taziki sauce was not taziki sauce.tasted like Mayo with seasoning. The lamb was in chunks. Again was ok. Just not what I was used to having in Greece. Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating with my allergies.

Service was great, food delicious!

Loved the atmosphere. The service was stellar. The food was ok but the way the food was plated ruined the experience for me. I had the short ribs which in general were tasty and had the ela fries. Now Im not at all excited about soggy fries but when your meat or fish is placed on top of your fries with the lemon and the hot meat on top of the fries they are going to end up soggy and it just in my opinion was not ideal. My wife had fish and it was served the same way and she expressed the same disappointment. Just odd in my opinion. As always I recommend that you try the restaurant for yourself as you may have a completely different experience to mine.

We ate at Ela tonight I had the ela burger and my wife had the lamb skewers. The burger without a doubt was amoung the finest burgers I have ever had. I am very picky with my burgers and it was moist tasty, burger first.....outstanding. my wife thoroughly enjoyed the lamb skewers....fantastic. thank you!

Food is average for the price. Our waitress kind of forgot about us for a while until we gently asked how long would our appetizer be.

Wouldn t return, and I m not that hard to please. How does a Greek restaurant make a poor Greek salad? Barely any dressing, small amount of feta crumbles, a few very thin strips of onion really? For $18? Plate of romaine and maybe five cherry tomatoes, outnumbered by the olives with pits. Even more surprising, the lamb was tough as old leather. How can that even happen, considering the age of the animal? There are better Greek restaurants in HRM.

Great little place with a wonderful atmosphere. The service was quick friendly and were able to offer suggestions. Its a great place for a date or adult birthday gathering.

The quality of the food was okay, but the service was poor. There were only 2 or 3 people around, and they were constantly running, yet we still waited a long time for the drink menu. We requested lemon, but they only brought us two very small slices with almost no juice But we really liked the atmosphere and the decoration.

A favourite spot of ours to enjoy an evening out. There s nothing quick about the service, sometimes we re left wondering if they just forgot about us. Often we re not checked on after we receive our food and most times our water is not refilled, which is so unfortunate and this is expected when sitting down to a meal in a restaurant. If you go make sure you don t have anything you re in a hurry to get to afterwards. We go back because the food is just so wonderful every time and the atmosphere is so inviting. A few tweaks with service and it could be a perfect experience.

Always a favourite however it can get very loud at this location, consider that if you are looking for a nice quiet time - this may not be the spot. Excellent food and service however!

Shared appetizer ($65) for 4 was not very good. Most items only came in 2s (only a half per person), the French fries and calamari were cold, the calamari was overcooked - like rubber. Not planning to return to this restaurant.

This was an absolute terrible experience. We ordered one of the very expensive appetizers, and the fries were absolutely cold as ice when they got there the calamari was like chewing on a rubber band and it was cold. Terrible I will never go back ever again.

Beautiful and cozy place and good customer service, but food was not good enough. I was kind of disappointed. I had Mosoka (not sure spending is correct or not) that was so dry and no good taste. However, I havent tried other food, and my 1 star is only for Mosaka. It is not fair if I judge all the food since I havent tried so far.

We went there to celebrate my birthday with friends and of all places I chose it because I love the atmosphere. The food was delicious but the person that served us that night is not a happy person. Shes not a people person and her service is terrible. For the amount I paid for a big number of people that night I wasnt happy and the people I invited with me also noticed her attitude. I dont think it was worth it we couldve went somewhere else where food was great and service was great as well. I think those two things matters when you dine in.

I enjoyed my time here, it was a beautiful atmosphere with a decent wine selection. Where this restaurant lacks is the food. The lamb souvlaki came with two skewers, rice and salad. The lamb was great. The rice was extremely overcooked and resembled more of a rice pudding than actual rice, the salad was very small as well. I talked to the server about the rice and she brought out a side of potatoes. They had been sitting out for at least an hour (they were dried and tough on top from the heat lamp). As seen in the first picture, the meal is not worth the $27 I paid. For $27 I would have expected a bit more than a plastic cup of tzatziki. Wine, music, atmosphere and beer were great. Service was also wonderful. But I m here for the food hence the poor rating. The atmosphere was amazing. Beautiful design and cozy feel. I really want this restaurant to be better but the food was just subpar.

Im not going to say its bad, Im not going to say its great. Maybe I just dont like Greek food that much, but once again my experience at Ela could be described as fine. You certainly wont be disappointed eating here.

Had lunch here today and the Santorini Sangria was delicious. My gf got the pork souvlaki with rice and I got the chicken souvlaki with the potatoes. Both skewers were seasoned and cooked perfectly, the potatoes had a nice flavor and the salad was fresh. The rice was a huge disappointment though, to start - they used basmati rice (not long grain), it had no flavour whatsoever. If the chef could switch the brand of rice and cook it properly, the meal would be perfect. The waiter and atmosphere was also lovely.

My wife and I stopped in for a drink and some Kalamri. So tasty.

Really disappointing Greek food. Lemon potatoes were reheated and overly soaked in lemon. Chicken was not seasoned. Calimari was frozen and not fresh. Portions were small. Chicken fingers were so dry. Burger was also so dry (so much so my daughter couldn t eat it). Greek salad is supposed to be a tomato salad. The Greek salad at Ela! Had two small cherry tomatoes, a slice or two of cucumber and mostly browning lettuce. Goats cheese and not feta. Service was great but the food was very poor.

We discovered Ela! while in town shopping and we were so impressed we decided to go back again the next day. The service was great, and we definitely recommend it!

Went for Mother s Day for 5 pm. Took 20 mins to get a glass of water and 40 mins for our order to be taken. We are now 1.5 hrs in and still no food. The server said the kitchen is really busy. So are we so we left and went somewhere else and has a beautiful experience.

ITs a TOMATOE- One of our parties had Haddock Lemonsto, the other had a Gyro, and I had the Pastitsio. Everyone liked their food, but I found what I thought was a piece of raw meat. I ate around it because they never came by to ask how our meal was. I mentioned it when they cleared the table and they said that it was tomatoe... Im not so sure about that (pictures attached). The service was OK, but I had to ask for something to drink when they had walked past 3 times and were finally clearing the plates (the restaurant was not busy 2:30 PM). Im disappointed and will not go back.

We had fond memories of Ela, but were very disappointed in our lunch experience. Service and staff were amazing, but the prices are really high for the amount of food you receive. The souvlaki skewer was 4 small pieces of meat, and an extra skewer was $8, same size. My vegetarian meal of a stuffed pepper with salad on the side was $22; it was a very small meal. Two of us each ate a small meal, no extra drinks, and it was almost $60. I m disappointed, and won t be back! You ve lost us, Ela.

Ela s is the first Greek restaurant that I ve been dissatisfied with the food/cost I had a souvlaki lunch and ordered a extra skewer of meat. As I received my plate I ve notice 2 little skewers of meat about 4 inches each, so I called the waiter and asked him if he remembered I wanted a second skewer. His reply was you have 2 on your plate. I was shocked and from there on felt ripped off and didn t really enjoy my meal. I asked to speak to a manager and I did let her know my disappointmen. She said that she s sorry and asked my waiter and he agreed that the skewer were small and she offered to make another one for me. I declined due to the fact that they all noticed it was small and still served it and after I asked about my second one he simply replied by saying I had my 2 skewers. A skewer in the Oxford dictionary is a long piece of wood or metal used for food. Long piece I told them they can t sale toothpick as skewers. It s the first Greek restaurant that I know that does this and charge you full price Seems that I m not the only one having issues with the food portions at Ela Definitely not going back and I won t recommend anyone to Ela s

Cant believe I havent eaten at this place before. Comparable in taste to food you get in Greece, which is 2nd to none IMO. The Spanakopita was fantastic. Saganoki was great. Wife had mousaka and loved it. Service and atmosphere were both top notch. Would like to go back without my four kids, one of which had eaten an adult meal but was still given the complimentary kids ice cream, so not be left out. Small things like that are much appreciated. I use to work for the owner at another establishment years ago, and got to say hi to him today, just as friendly a man as I remember. Will definitely be back.

The lady who took care of us was just wonderful!! So funny too! The food was absolutely amazing for me!! My friends lamb was delicious but seemed like it was lacking in amount for 22.00!! The haddock i had was soooooo good!! Thats the only real problem. The baklava and cinnamon coffee cake was delicious!!!

Visiting Ela s is the first thing we do after arriving at YHZ! This restaurant has an amazing staff and wonderful Mediterranean food. Our local family has been visiting this location for years. Cannot say enough good things! Started with the Mediterranean Trio and Risotto Balls. Had the Chicken Souvlaki with Greek Salad and Lemon Grilled potatoes. My goodness. This is reason enough to visit again and again!

Service was very nice. The staff working there are all happy. The food no. We tried ordering a staple of Greek restaurants a chicken souvlaki plate. For about $28.00 dollars I was given one medium potato cut in half. It tasted okay but wasnt cooked enough two really short chicken skewers that were tasteless. My wife said the chicken tasted like thyme was added to it. Nothing else. The salad was small but okay tasting. At almost $30.00 dollars for this they can do better. I can buy much nicer tasting food for less money at another restaurant. The atmosphere was generic for any Greek restaurant. Not worth the money spent. Maybe they pay a lot for rent there and have to charge more. Not worth my money to go back again.

I had the shrimp souvlaki lunch and everything was delicious. The shrimp was grilled to perfection and the dressing on the salad was delicious. Great friendly service. I d recommend it to anyone.

Very poor experience. My sister and I visited this afternoon (Dartmouth Crossing location). My sister had had a Valentine s Day dinner here and enjoyed it a few months ago. Today s experience was night and day. We were seated promptly - good. Another server came over after we d spent time with the menus, asked if we wanted something other than water, we didn t. The server immediately turned her back and walked away without asking if we were ready to order. We were a little taken aback, but figured she d be right back. She returned several minutes later, after making eye contact with us and immediately turning away to check on another table s desserts. Seemed rushed and dismissive, even though there were very few people seated in the restaurant. We waited over 30 minutes for our meals. We were counting down to walking out when she came out of the kitchen. The food was very lacklustre for the price. Calamari was over cooked and rubbery. Lemon potatoes tasted like they had been cooked in vegetable stock and nothing else. Greek salad was fine, but it s hard to screw up a Greek salad. Pork skewer was very bland and under seasoned. Aside from the Greek salad, this was the most tasteless and unappealing Greek food either my sister and I have ever experienced. I had to go up and ask for the bill, as no one checked in on us after we received our meals. Staff were just standing around. Poor service, meh food quality for a pretty inflated price, and an extended length of time waiting ensures neither my sister or I will ever eat at Ela! again, and I will very much recommend against dining there.

Ela! Is probably in my top five favourite places to eat in Halifax/Dartmouth. I recommend many appetizers including the spanakopita which was one of the best I have had ! or the Kopanisti dip, which also is one of the best Ive had. If sharing, the grilled platter is a great choice and includes Seftalia, pork souvlaki, two pieces of rack of lamb, two chicken breasts, a salad, lemon potato and a dip. The lamb is always done perfectly. The stuffed chicken breast is also a great choice, always so good. The service at Ela! Is always great every time I go. I recommend the ekmek or chocolate torte for dessert, actually some of my favourite desserts around ! Ela! Is a cozy, well decorated restaurant with nice traditional background music & a romantic feel of Greece. I love to eat at Ela! Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options ! Parking: Lots of free parking !

Food is always excellent. Fishcakes, fries, rice, shawarma... All great! Service -not so much. As for atmosphere -thats a mixed bag... The intended ambiance is quite nice, lovely candles, decor is quite nice, however two very large drawbacks for me... The chairs are heavy, tables have four exterior corner legs, quite difficult to pull chairs in under tables and leg/thigh room is quite limited and uncomfortably intimate at times if seated next to someone who isnt in your immediate family, would also be quite uncomfortable for a person of wide stature. The second and largest drawback for me is the noise. The acoustics are terrible and it gets quite noisy when busy and the chairs also add to the noise when scraped on the floors. Lastly, their website suggests they have brunch. They do not and never have. Kid-friendliness: All i can say is that its not a place i would choose if i had more than one well behaved child with me. (I AM a mother, I have 2 well behaved children, but I wouldnt take them there because the noise is intense and would wind them up. It would not be relaxing for any of us.

I had dinner with my friend on Wednesday, October 4 and our server, Tracy, made our experience great! We got the haddock and salmon and we both really enjoyed our meals. Fantastic service too :-)

That was awesome. Had the pan fried haddock with Greek salad. Fresh flavors, good feta/olives and the haddock was cooked and flavored perfectly. This was memorable!

Great food, friendly service, my guests complained they were cold

Food is very nice as well as the atmosphere but prices keep going up. This has meant going once every few months as opposed to about once a month like we used to.

We had the gyro and the seafood chowder and also the coffee cake for desert. The food was excellent the service was very friendly and attentive. The bathrooms were clean and tidy, although the facilities definitely need some maintenance TLC, flush valves etc we would definitely go back.

A little piece of Greece! Beautiful inside. The menu looked incredible, We only had the trio of dips with pita and it was delicious. We had a bottle of Greek wine too! It would have been nice if they had mixed olives as an appetizer but they dont. Our server behind the bar, Nicky, was very attentive. We cant wait to return to have a full meal.

Both my husband and myself loved ela we actually ate there alot probably 3 -4 times at least a month and we got to know the staff and looked forward to seeing them and having a fantastic meal. Went yesterday so disappointed new staff waiter made us feel like we were bothering her, although its the same menu the food definitely was not serverd the same, my entrée a spinach pastry always served with a choice of side as it is the main dish but they actually brought iit in 2 separate plates and charged me 2 entrées , obviously we will nor be going back.

This is definately NOT a restaurant to take a child even though they have a childs menue. We were the 3rd table in the restaurant at 11:40. We waited over 20 minutes for our food after we ordered. My grand daughters sluvaki pita had only chicken on it - when I asked for at least tasiki for her we had to wait another 10 minutes! A 4 year old has no patience for this, little on an adult. The waitress then asked her if she wanted ice cream and iI asked if it would take long but was told no. 10 minutes later after the waitress waited on numerous tables she brought the ice cream. My whole family loves Greek food and go regularly, but I will never go to Elas again!!

Nice place

First time ever trying Ela and it was decent. The wait time for our food was a lot longer than expected but it was lunch time so understandable. The food was alright. The chicken was charred a bit too much so it s really all you could taste. I took home half of my meal and it almost tasted better later in the day? I ll definitely go again to try more options though!

I went here twice in less than a two week span. The first time was for lunch and I ordered the gyro. It was absolutely delicious - was served as a wrap (in tinfoil) with Greek salad and I got the lemon potatoes with it. I believe it was $21 for the meal. Then I went back for dinner the following week and I had enjoyed the gyro so much that I ordered it again. It was served with the same sides but was served open-faced like a flatbread. It was still delicious but it was $27 this time which I found odd because it seemed like the same amount of food I had for the lunch. That being said maybe there was more meat in the open-faced one. Regardless I was very happy with my meals! And the people I went with were also very happy with theirs! Will definitely be back.

Hankering for a Mediterranean meal this will not disappoint . I had avocado Greek salad and ravioli vegetarian choices and my husband had Greek Salad and a lobster risotto . Risotto needed a little spice . Baklava was ok , not as crisp as some . Don t bother with latte.

My haddock was perfect and the Greek potatoes are excellent. My second time here and it didnt disappoint. Great service and atmosphere. Great drink selection. I highly recommend this place!!

Went two weeks ago with friends and family Was very, very disappointed in the quality of the food! The rack of lamb, the pastitsio were extremely dry, plus I was expecting Béchamel on the pastitsio not mashed potatoes! Anyhow, needless to say none of us will come back to eat there!

Love the atmosphere and the delicious food! I have recently discovered the gnocchi fish. Wow!! The gnocci is the best I have had. Highly recommend!

My wife and I each ordered a shawarma bowl. The food was fresh and delicious and the service was great. My wife has celiac disease and there were many gluten free options to choose from. The restaurant also had a very nice atmosphere. There were many places to park on site. Highly recommend this restaurant especially for people who love Greek food.

Its ok. My lamb was unfortunately really burnt and I definitely didnt enjoy it.

my daughter and i shared a meal on friday evening thanksgiving weekend. we had one of the most positive experiances. i cannot say enough about our waitress who i think. was jackie. what a delightful caring person. the meal was absolutely perfect .jackie certainly made our evening. i had recent surgery and then covid so was one of my first outings in a long time. lauren mentioned it was a delayed birthday which was 3 months past. this delightful lady bought me a free dessert. i have passed this on to many of my friends. hugs to jackie

I m in a nearby hotel for work and walked over for supper 3 nights in a row and going back tonight. The salmon and salad was fantastic, the chicken penne was beyond fantastic - the flavors! You never go hungry and always feel welcome. Staff are so nice and personable.

YUM, yum, yum!! Went here yesterday for the first time despite always recommending it to people because a friend said it was the best. I decided to finally go myself and wow. The food was SO fresh, the falafels were the best I have ever had, and the crispy cabbage and pickled onions paired with them were so good. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very chill, quiet, and relaxing. The waitress was lovely.

Lamb burger was amazing. Go hungry. Big portions.

Nothing about this place disappoints, great food, service and reasonably priced... Bonus, they will alter food menu upon request for dietary restrictions...ie.keto!!!
