We went to this bar for their disco night. It was large and clean with a great dance floor. Unfortunately, there was only about 20 people there that night! No matter…they had a great DJ and we ladies got our dance on. I’d like to come back for some live music in the future.
Monte's has had some changes lately and not all have been for the better. The atmosphere is the same as it has always been reminiscent of an early 90s basement party. The staff are great often remembering me from previous visits. The food however has gone down hill. The last three times I have been there something with our food order made us consider going somewhere else. First was the change to the wings not offering a breaded option and serving us wings that tasted like they had burnt flour on the outside. Second was the cheeseburger which was raw in the middle to which I was I was assured they couldn't understand what had gone wrong and that the part of the raw burger I bit in to was the only raw part when they cut it open. I was not charged for this and even the owner apologized and asked if there was anything they could do to make up for it. Third was the clubhouse which I almost would have given them praise for. Lots of chicken and bacon good portion size until I grabbed the last corner of my sandwich to realize it was missing the bread from the top. Montes is a great place to grab a cold one and see a variety of live music but we will be eating elsewhere in the future.

Upon arriving at Monty's I decided to order some hot wings. Being very hungry. I dove right in. Not really noticing until I was almost finished that half the wings were bloody and raw and uncooked in the middle not impressed at all with the food ! I was also made to pay for my wings that weren't fit to eat after The waitress confronted the manager about the issue then was told I had to pay for the meal. That being said I was very happy with the waitress's service but not the food..after all, they're not making the food. If you want to pay top dollar prices for wings that are half raw and uncooked this this the restaurant for you !
One of the best live music show rooms (rock/pop/variety) Big sound and lights Thursday jam sessions are great. Standard pub fare food is decent VLTs for the gamblers... May you break even :D
Came for a Yay Makers Paint Nite event and couldn't believe the space! I definitely want to come back to a live music event. Staff was really friendly - and I definitely recommend the Irish Nachos!
What a great place to visit... great service, great food... I believe they told us there was only one person in the kitchen, they did a great job, but we did wait a little for food... and it was a large group of us on a Wednesday... definitely will go back... and worth trying if you have never been. Plus they have great entertainment on the weekends...
I am a traveler. This is my first time in Halifax. I live in USA. I stopped by Tuesday for karaoke. Laurie The Guy is a very good DJ and has as much fun as everyone else. They have nice stage and sound is pretty darn good. Lot of great singers here. Locals are very friendly I am happy I stopped by. Ashley was great she was AWESOME. It was a steady night and she attended to bar and tables with no problem she is a professional. I look forward to my next trip to Halifax.

Best bar in town for live music. The food is really good. The staff are fun and laid back. Vegetarian options: Cauliflower bowl is delicious! Dietary restrictions: Offer gluten free options. Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome to stay until 9pm. There is plenty of space for them to dance and play. Wheelchair accessibility: Very willing to accommodate anyone with a physical impairment.

Food Sucks! First order of wings sent back for being bloody, second order came out bloody and the person i was eating with also had raw food. Wont be comming back. The chef doesnt know how to properly cook food.
Servers were amazing and drinks were extra yummy 10/10 would come here again Only weird thing was the mozzarella sticks came with ranch but they were fine on their own I would never have guessed that to be the default sauce. Food

Went down on Thursday evening to enjoy live music and the DJ, both were amazing and made for an amazing night of dancing. I heard about fresh haddock being served the next day so I had to come back and the food was just as amazing if not better! Over all a phenomenal start to my easter weekend

Went to Montes for the first time last Friday night to see some tribute bands I saw advertised on Instagram. The bands were absolutely fantastic, really nailing the bands sound, especially the Green Day band! The dj between each of the performances however was obnoxiously loud, like remarkably louder than the Bands... during a time when we would usually grab new drinks and have a moment to talk with friends between acts, we found ourselves shouting and wandering outside to give our ears a break...

I ordered a hot hamburger with gravy on the fries. I got a hot turkey with no gravy. Also, they need to do something about the grease smell, so bad.

This place has a big dance floor and houses a pretty good crowd! Lots of seating and lots of great bands play here! Other than the fact that isn t closer to my home - what s not to like?

The music the night we were there was wonderful. Great venue. However, it took way too long to get drinks and food... when we ordered, it was still early; not many people there. It appeared to be only a couple servers for the whole venue.

Montes doesn t believe in our freedoms and rights and laughs online at the suffering that Canadians have endured these last 2 years and when I called them out on it I was blocked!!!! So unprofessional and disgraceful!!! I will never support this business ever again and will encourage others to stay away as well. I will be spreading this message everywhere! Shame on you montes!!!

Poor service. Refusing entry based on medical reasons for not being able to wear masks. First establishment I have encountered that took this stance. Asked in advance to avoid issue and they were less than accommodating.
Extremely disappointed with the treatment of a guest who cannot wear a mask who has a medical exception. Absolutely will not return to this establishment.

If I may address the concerns two patrons experienced while visiting this establishment. First of all, let me express my regret that you have been diagnosed with this medical condition in the first place. I would never want to embarrass either of you for simply having such a condition. Based on what I have read, there truly are some people with severe chronic breathing conditions, mental health conditions or folks with cognitive or developmental disabilities who can experience anxiety from wearing a mask. My heart goes out to you, truly it does. I can only imagine the grief youd experience visiting a nursing home, schools or a hospital, government offices or banks. Even your own workplace! That being said, I do appreciate the need to feel some sense of normalcy, like sitting down to a meal at a restaurant. Only seems natural to want to slip back into society and in a controlled, safe environment with social gatherings in these unprecedented times. That being said, i do feel for the business owner too. While the novascotia.ca website does not authorize nor permit businesses to ask patrons to provide proof of a medical condition exempting them from wearing masks, the business is within its right to refuse entry as they are allowed to set their own policies. I guess the way I personally see it, the optics would be bad for the majority of patrons visiting the establishment especially in the bar and restaurant sector. Everyone is having a different experience during this global pandemic and the business owners really need to appeal to the masses so that they can continue to operate. I think if certain friends of mine had witnessed someone walking in the door and through the bar without wearing a mask, they would up and leave and go out of their way to tell people to avoid that establishment. They wouldnt know that a medical condition exemption was being upheld. Personally, I dont believe anyone would want to draw unnecessary attention to themselves that they are victims of a medical condition by wearing or sporting some kind of flashy special exemption badge. So while my heart does go out to those who are clearly at higher risk by not being able to wear a face mask due to their condition, I dont believe we as society can condemn a small business owner for trying to protect their livelihood by simply following the rules set out by health and government officials for the majority so we are able to end this pandemic and get back to whatever our normal will be.

Not much to look at. Service was nice but slow, however just reopened from Covid and busy. Excellent music line ups. Highly recommended for that alone.
Received poor service. Of a group of 6, they forgot 2 meals until it was too late; than attempted to serve the 2 meals. Waitress was rude. When asked for the bill for 1 pop, she took in excess of 30 minutes so we left. Remained of the table got 1 free drink for our service. Will never go again to this establishment.

Changed name to Colleens Pub. BEST pub ever!!!!! Ordered fresh homemade french onion soup! Colleen used to be a waitress and when The Pour closed she up and bought a Pub! She knows everyone and interacts with everyone!
I didnt go here. I went to the pub up the stairs. Coleens Pub. Good food and libations here. Great place to enjoy live music.

Havent been there in awhile, but always pretty good
My parent went twice to get the burger during Halifax burger week. The first time they weren t able to get the burger because you didn t have supplies. Understandable. The second time they went in and were seated and not served. My Dad went to the bar because he thought the waitress didn t see them. She assured him she d be right over. But that was a lie, as another group came in and she served them first and continued to ignore them. My parents decided to just leave and go somewhere else. Pretty sure this was blatant discrimination and therefore I stopped recommending and would not go back.

Went here for paint night recently. The space was perfect for the activity and the bartender was attentive, however Ill never forget stopping in for lunch during burger week around 11am and being sent away because they werent serving lunch for another hour. They open at 10am... I could have gotten hard liquor at 11 am but no burger. It will always be a dive bar in my eyes for this reason.
Service was absolutely fantastic but unfortunately the place was cold and I mean cold. Atmosphere was good and Feedback (band name) rocked the joint!

Waited an hour for a terrible burger. They were out of fries, onion rings, and battered fish. Thought we may be the only ones who waited that long but asked another gentleman who was waiting for his bill, same story. Had to rush home and be sick immediately, not surprising as when I went to pay the smell from the kitchen and behind the bar was terrible, and my burger was slightly underdone but I was so hungry I figured it might not be that bad. Oh how wrong I was. If all you want to do is drink, this may be ok. If you want food, try your luck anywhere else.
If you plan to wait until later in the evening to eat and stay for the entertainment, think twice. We arrived at 7:45 and were told the kitchen was closed. It was supposed to be open until 830. I can see this happening once but it has happened twice on the last 6 months. Keep the schedule that everyone is told !!!
Looking forward to seeing the renovation complete. The acoustic treatment and band mix position away from the back wall will be great. Razorboy rocks!

This is a venue extrordinaire for live music. They have live bands several times a week on a large, well-equipped stage with a dedicated sound technician. The staff is friendly and efficient and they have a full menu of food and an expansive selection of beverages. Its a great place to party.

I was very pleasantly surprised. I have lived in the neighborhood for years and never been there before. The place is way bigger than I thought ...not laid out great but its ok. The food is really good for bar food. Get the breaded wings! They are not too much breading and crispy, they were fantastic. The hamburger was good but a little dry....in fairness they were so busy Im not surprised. The place smells a little like a deepfryer though. The best thing about the place is the sound system. It rocks in there. I have not seen a live band in there yet but I will now! Not sure what the normal clientele is like I was only at 2 chase the ace events. Hopefully it will be ok. Ill let you know.
