El Este is fairly unique in the city and the food is good. It s served fast and is generally fairly good quality. However ..the chicken that they used for our food was quite bad. It was nearly all grissle/connective tissue. That ruined an otherwise good meal.

El chino is great and his food is even better (Although not 100% authentic but quite close)

Was craving Mexican and figured Id give EL ESTE TAQUERIA a try... The food exceeded my expectations. Im upset I didnt try it sooner.

Is this Dartmouths best-kept secret? Had a random craving for Mexican food. Did a little Googling. Found this place and had the best chimichanga of my life. Super friendly and welcoming service and atmosphere. I cant wait to try everything else on the menu!

Service was super fast. I arrived at 7:45 pm ordered a veggie burrito and a chimichango. The listed price was $12 and $14 but I was asked to pay $32 and there was an expectation of tip on top of that. Watch out for the billing amount. Ask for a receipt as the guy tend to overcharges.

Seems authentic not Tex mex, well made fresh and tasty, could use more cilantro and heat but very filling. Parking: Few spots out front and plenty on the street side.

In my beef burrito I had chunks of fat in it. The food tasted like it was made a week ago. It was so bad that I wouldnt even feed it to my dogs . We both couldnt finish it and went to McDonalds instead . Thats how bad your food is if McDonalds is a better solution. Will never go back or recommend.

The location does not do justice to the food and the service, I have been looking for a place that serves authentic Mexican food and I am so happy to have finally found this place. I will be back as often as my wife and my wallet will allow! Parking: There is a small amount of paring out front which when full leaves only the gas station parking or street parking availabe... go for thr food not the parking.

The restaurant offers delicious Mexican food. The portions are not large considering the prices, I paid around $22.50CAD for the quesadilla and a drink. The staff was friendly. (09/2024)

We came into as first time customer the service was amazing. The gentleman that waited on us was a bundle of energy. The food was amazing we had beef burrito chicken burrito and chicken tacos. The food was full of flavour. We will definitely be back.

This restaurant has an awesome Mexican vibe and decor. The food is fresh and delicious and the cook was super welcoming and friendly. The custard was amazing too!

The BEST tacos in Dartmouth/Halifax in my opinion, authentic and delicious. I make sure to stop in every time I visit the city. To top off how good they are the prices here are very reasonable. Better eaten fresh so take a seat in the scenic, colourful shop and enjoy!

We showed up a bit before closing and one of the workers welcomed us in, I got the recommended barbacoa tacos which were delicious and prepared really quickly. Also loved the fun decor, cant wait to go back!

We just had burritos from here tonight for the second time. Its now absolutely my favorite takeout counter in the HRM. Authentic Mexican with perfect balance of flavors and a nice little kick of spice. We also love the homemade tortilla chips that he serves with his dishes. Cant wait to try more dishes!

Definitely my go to mexican food in HRM. My only wish is that it was walking distance from Downtown Dartmouth with more seating and mexican beer! But regardless, its excellent as it is.

Food was great the time I ve had it but haven t been able to get it the last 2 times we ve tried! He sells out which is great for him but his website and Google says open to 8 which is misleading. With no regular updates on Facebook, it can sometimes be a gamble whether he s open or not. Do not go unless you call first!

The place itself is nice. We ordered a chimichanga and a burrito, and I found the chimichanga to be a little dry. I believe it is deep fried, but I never heard a fryer go off. It didnt have the crisp, crunchy exterior I was expecting and it wasnt as hot which was a bit disappointing especially if itsfreshly deep fried food. Maybe it was prepped an hour or so ago, its uncertain at this point. Might try it again in the future if were craving the flavors. .

Stopped in during a storm. One of the few places open. Very friendly and fast service. We order chicken and also a beef quesadilla. They each came with a few nachos. So delicious! The chips stayed crisp to eat back at home. Those quesadillas though, so delicious. I would say the best I ever had.

I visit El Este a few days ago. authentic. great flavor. the best is the attention is great. I try the carnitas and the barbacoa tacos.

Very tasty but I could not believe how little we got for $23 They had about three tablespoons of topping per taco. We ordered four and it looked like it should be two. Need to increase your amount of food for that cost if you want people to come back.

Don t trust the hours posted online. I did. Cost me a trip out of my way and two bridge tolls. Had to work lunch and slipped out at 3 to eat what I m told is great food. Place was closed. Went somewhere that was actually open.

Best Mexican food this side of Mexico! And Ive been backpacking south!! The owner is funny and courteous and shows an interest in all the guests. Its set up for take out or delivery only right now, but if he ever gets a dining room Ill be a regular!

Mels food is absolutely delicious. What he serves can sometimes be a little inconsistent; if you order the same dish, you might get something a little different each time. Extra ingredients, different toppings you werent expecting etc. This is absolutely fine if youre prepared for it but can be a little surprising if not. The quality of everything is fantastic, though!

Also the lobby/foyer is very small and Mexican doesnt travel well so you basically gotta eat in your car. Overall great food if you live close by.

I would actually give here 4.5. First visit: a Saturday afternoon in the fall of 2022? Tried the daily special which was delicious...a beef torta that I cant remember the exact name. Great thick, crispy bread, so much flavor in the meat, with that perfect homemade touch thats hard to define. Only wish is that there was space for dine in and now know that a 2nd location will be opening up soon, with tables, I think in Cole Harbour? Look forward to it. 2nd visit: Feb 2023 grabbed a large nachos for Saturday lunch. Not massive, but exactly the portion size that worked for me where I ate it all and was satisfied. Loaded with delicious toppings. I want to continue supporting the owner, bc there is just something about here that I love. 3rd visit: later Feb 2023 on a sunny Saturday at 4:30. One other customer there at the time. I ordered the Pollo en Verde burrito and yum!!!! Just the right size to be satisfied and not over full again. Wrapped very neatly & tightly with the perfect dispersed toppings, so wasnt messy to eat at all. A few delicious chips thrown in. 4th visit: couple of shrimp and chicken tacos. Simple, bit messy, delicious. 5th visit: pork burrito - yum in the same way as the chicken. 6th visit: finally ordered the huevos rancheros, that Ive wanted to order all along. Its exactly what I predicted. Perfect blend of flavors, size, etc. If able, I will be back to try the rest of the menu!

First time visit, very good first impression, very clean, music to fill the mood of eating Mexican, very nice man working here, great atmosphere, kind of small and out of the way, not really alot of room so for the location it got 4 stars, but everything else was spot on, if I never stopped for pizza I would of never knew it was there, pizza place had no slices and I was hungry, so I ordered the beef burrito, it was yummy delicious, flavors in my mouth Ive never experienced in such a way that they were combined, fresh little homemade tortilla chips on the side, Ill definitely stop here again to experience more flavors after work or on my lunch break. Parking: Very limited, tucked behind a tire garage and petro Canada Wheelchair accessibility: Could easily wheel a chair in the front door, no problem.

We tried El Este Taqueria after hearing how good it was for around a year now. I got the vegetation option for tacos (mushroom chipotle) and my partner got a variety of different kinds of tacos to sample. All of the food was absolutely delicious and we rated it 10/10. The service was really great- the person working there was extremely kind and friendly. We can t wait to go back again and try more of their food! :) note: I saw a review or two talking about how the prices were high, but we actually found the price extremely reasonable for the quality of food

Tired of Mexican places in Canada that are bland? Burritos and tacos that don t have legit Mexican flavour or spice like you get in Mexico or in the U.S? This place is different. This place is only one of two Mexican restuarants I ve been to in Canada that are legit! (Shout out to Mole Guacamole in Manitoba!) My Chimichanga was awesome and had some really good kick. The restaurant is cool on the inside and the employees are really nice. Stop going to places that are essentially subway for Mexican food and go to this legit Mexican restaurant! I can t rep this place enough! It s a take out joint not a dine in sort of place. They also do breakfast on the weekend!! I ll be back for breakfast on Saturday!

Aug 3, 2023 - Wife and I went to try this place for the first time after accidently finding it near a motel that we wish to stay. Friendly cook/staff. Good thing we tried it out (Carne enchilada quesadilla & Pollo asado quesadilla) and were quite impressed. Waited aprrox 7 minutes for our meals, but it was fresh, and worth it. Didnt see any tables to eat in, but it was worth the pick up anyway. We will be returning to this place to try out more items on the menu. Muchas Gracias por la experiencia! Parking: We got lucky with parking. Found 2 empty parking spots close to 5pm.

While the food was good I cannot recommend this place at all based in the customer service. I am a 27 year old woman and was immediately greeted as Sir upon entering the restaurant. In addition to this the person behind the counter repeatedly cut me off while I was ordering and didnt take my full order. I was under the impression he wanted me out of there as soon as possible.

An easy to miss Mexican take out place with traditional Mexican street tacos and more. I had tacos and burrito and both had mouth watering flavour. Only minus was price and smaller portion.

This little restaurant with its friendly service is worth a visit or many visits. The food was really way beyond my expectations! All of the food was fresh, flavourful and so delicious! But I must say the fresh handmade nachos were truly the star. I ve never had Mexican food that was as good as here!

This place is incredible. The depth of flavour in almost every dish will leave you speechless. Not really an eat-in place but if you order there, he s very quick in preparing your meal. I ve been there a few times and the chicken is usually sold out (that s how good it is). I recommend literally anything with the chorizo in it to start then working your way through the menu. You can anlso get a burrito with chorizo + one other meat and Let me tell you, that s the ticket right there. Enjoy!

Sorry this place is a bit of a joke. The veg burrito basically had some lettuce, rice and about 5 mushrooms slices for 12 dollars? Not even refried beans as adverised either. At least be respectful to customers. The shrimp tacos were basically 2 shrimps on each with a few pickled onions and some hot sauce! 10.50. There wasnt even any salsa inside these things! I wish I had pictures. All together cost us 45 bucks.

The quality of the pork was simply amazing, you could tell that it was slow-cooked for at least five hours! However, the salsa left much to be desired. The staff member (who might also be the owner himself) was quite helpful and engaging! The little store is wonderfully decorated as well. Be aware that the quantity of food is small and there is no eating area in-store. The food is also a tad bit expensive (for reference, 15x more expensive as you would find similar-quality tacos for in Mexico City). If you want to try out the special menu item of the day, I suggest going early as they are quite popular and get sold out in the morning itself!

I have only eaten here three times. BUt every time it was to write home about. I have only had the tcos so cannot speak to the burritos but the quality is high so guessing they are gret. Everything is very fresh! It may look like a hole in the wall in back of a service station - but you cannot go wrong. 5pm yesterday I was the only one there. It cannot stand! There should be line ups out the door. Its take out only - but fantastic.

Ex Chef-First time drop in tonight, had heard good things. Man o man. This guy is nailing it. These are so good I want to take him by the hand into a busier foot-traffic neighborhood and make him rich. Hes is such a nice guy and he can seriously cook. Very impressed. What an odd location for such a great product, lets get it into downtown Dartmouth-proper my man! Vegetarian options: There were veggie options, the only one I particularly noticed as thats not what I was looking for was mushrooms in adobo, which sounds amazing. Dietary restrictions: I am lactose intolerant. That wasnt an issue at all. Parking: Seemed to be ample parking.
