Original post 2019: Sam and family are possibly THE friendliest business owners Ive ever encountered in HRM. My friend mentioned them to me years ago when he was a regular, where they knew his voice from just the phone. Since I moved to Dartmouth three years ago, I obviously had to try it. Tried the pizza sub, the panzerotti/ponzo/calzone and a Cape Breton combination (although to them its just a three-topping pizza). Lol All tasty and Id get again! The pizza has a generous amount of cheese, which is important to me. Want to try other things on their menu soon. Have been back many times with my friend and todays visit (Valentines Day 2024), tried the Hawaiian. Loaded with thinly shaved ham, some good chunks of pineapple, lots of cheese - overall very tasty.

Hungry Hut has been a staple in the Dartmouth community for as long as I can remember. The food is amazing, especially the donair pockets (my fave), but the service is really what makes this place special. My partner and I both used to come here as kids and Hana always lets us know how sweet it is that she sees us together now. Everyone is always positive, smiling and happy to see you, whether its been a day, a week or a year you can always count on the Family of Hungry Hut to accept you and welcome you home. We love Hungry Hut, from the mozzarella sticks, roast beef subs, donairs, all the way to the pizza, garlic fingers and deep fried pepperoni, theres nothing on their menu that they dont make perfectly. Support local and you wont be disappointed, become part of the Hungry Hut family

Not great for building customer loyalty when theyre closed during hours they claim to be open. Sunday 4pm nobody home.

All these bad reviews saying the hours of operation are wrong is because they had a death in the family and were closed for over 3 months. Please dont judge this gem of a pizza place based off those reviews! They have updated their hours and you can find that on their website. Ive been going to Hungry Hut for over 15 years and you wont find many places as passionate as them! Ive tried nearly every item on their menu and they do everything good. But I highly recommend their Donairs!

My favourite spot in the HRM for donairs!! Delicious and the flavour is the best! This is a small family owned business and when you walk in you feel like family. Literally Hannah, Sam or Ma will ask you how you ve been doing and remember your face and what you ve told them. I can t recommend them enough. It s a beautiful thing when delicious food is paired with people with big hearts. Covid has hit hard and we re so glad you re here Hungry Hut crew! Much love! Keep being your wonderful selves!

From delicious donair meat to cheezy crispy crusted pizza, panzarotti cooked to perfection and fresh crisp salad. I cannot say enough amazing things about this place. From the first visit mear days after moving to HRM we have been treated like family and have always felt welcome. The customer service is leagues above any other pizza joint we have been to across Canada. After doing our diligence and trying a few other locations in the area we have repeatedly come back here for our late night cravings, days were not up to cooking or simply just craving a well built pie. The portions are always generous. Perhaps some time I will get a chance to take a few glamor shots of the food before it is devoured, but dont hold your breath.

I went into go get a wrap and everything was normal. They were just talking and then one of the employees start cussing a bit and I don t mind it too much because I m used to cussing but then once the woman starts making my rap, she touches it without any gloves on and touches everything with any gloves, but she proceeds to put gloves on when she touches the money, but not the food, I would recommend asking for them to put on gloves before they make you food. There was also blood around the tables. I m not sure if it s old and it does need some cleaning.

The food was alright. My son says he really enjoyed his cheeseburger, I had a chicken burger. It could have used more lettuce and cheese and maybe a house sauce if that was a thing at Hungry Hut. The fries were piping hot (10/10/ but were incredibly. . bland. Nice big pile of fries went with our burgers. Thanks for serving us Hungry Hut

Their donair tastes amazing. I am usually stuck between their donair or the donair bubba sub. The sub bun is super soft and it made to perfection. The pizza is also really great they load on the cheese. The family that owns the establishment are very welcoming and down to earth people. They want to get to know each customer who walks in that door and that s what keeps me coming back.

I go to hungry Hut all the time & get their pizza & it is fantastic, the prices are super reasonable. I also love their donairs ( just like everyone else in this review section). I had my mom come visit me from Ontario & she had never had east coast donair before, I had to take her here & she said it was the best shes ever had the family running it is so kind & friendly, I bring all my friends & family here cause I know theyll get nothing but the best! Fantastic food at odd hours, staff was friendly, everything was made to order. Would love to see more places like this. Cant recommend a visit to any visitors to the area highly enough, has some of the best donair and burgers and the prices are low.

Top notch service and hands down some of the BEST donair garlic fingers in Halifax no contest, dont even bother trying. You have to give them a call and ask Sam to make you his shaved donair meat garlic fingers with extra cheese and a side of sauce. I challenge your tastebuds to find a better single serving for 12 bucks elsewhere. I dare you

I went in and asked for a burger and they put a frozen burger patty from Costco on a flat top and said here you go enjoy.... if i wanted a frozen burger from Costco i could go to costco

Great food and friendly vibes. Ate here 3 times over the past few weeks and been happy as can be every time. They are run by a very friendly and thoughtful family, who always ask how your doing with a smile on their faces. They are also very quick and efficient, from my 3 times they were exact with the estimate they gave me (20mins on average). Food: the pizza was really good, especially with the side of cooked pepperoni (not spicy at all so anyone can handle it) Wings were exactly how i like them (i i asked for well done with sauce on the side) cheese sticks hit the spot, and ceaser wraps were decent with real fresh bacon and chicken but i feel needed more sauce. The only negative thing id say about this place is it almost looks like an old run down corner store from the outside. Weve passed by it multiple times in the past not knowing what it was. Definitely dont judge this book by its cover.

I love the Hungry Hut - in fact it is our Friday night pizza spot. We always get the large pizza special with 4 toppings - good bang for your buck. Their crust is incredible and good amount of toppings. It is consistently good too! We like our pizza well done so I usually ask for that. The family is super friendly - over the phone and in person - lovely folks. We will continue to support this great family business in downtown Dartmouth! I cant speak for the rest of the menu as I havent tried it but the pizza is delicious. Keep up the great pizza-making and business Hungry Hut! :)

Always a great time in here. The service is second to none the people are delightful. They have been serving me for over 20 years between this location and the old school Toulanys store on Prince Albert. Definitely my go to place whenever Im on town. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Come for the pizza, stay for the donairs, come back tomorrow for the garlic fingers. Everything these guys make is delicious if youre in the mood for some pizza place fare. They oughta be teaching donair school. The meat is delicious, perfectly chewy but with a satisfying crisp. The sauce is textbook. The veggies are always fresh. The pitas are prepared awesome so you get a nice mix of cripsy and chewy - they are never a soggy mess. Portions are generous across the entire menu, including the pizza toppings and cheese on the garlic fingers. If youre not convinced already, the family working here are so genuine and friendly. You leave this place with a delicious dinner and nice feeling that youve supported some great people. Never change, hungry hut.

Quiet open clean friendly staff

First time I went to Hungry Hut I was barely 12 years old. They welcomed me from day 1. Always get what you want and it tastes great. Love the staff to bits. Im 27 now and they are still the same lovely family they were 15 years ago. 6 stars.

Likely the best Donair I ve ever had!!!! If you re in the Halifax area it s a must! Family owned old school business doing it the right way. The sauce is the key to any Donair and it s outstanding here. Great service, not much more they can do better here. IMO better than KOD!

Great pizza and garlic fingers made by warm and friendly people! I was in town for work with my young teen aged son and they welcomed us and joked around with my boy. Food was flavorful and plentiful for a great price, and we even had lunch for the next day.

This is the best place to eat donair in Halifax and very underrated. The first thing I like about the restaurant, the atmosphere so welcoming and its family owned, doing it the old way and the service was amazing. Thanks again, go eat here!

Spent a few days in Dartmouth and came here based on the reviews. The food may not be fancy, but its delicious. Felt like family while we were there; everyone was so kind and friendly. If I ever find myself back in town Ill definitely be grabbing another meal from them!

This place has great delivery, service, and pizza. I am always pleased with the service and food I receive here. There is parking at the back of the building, and there are few tables inside, if you want to eat inside, instead of grabbing it to go. If you are in Dartmouth, it is definitely worth your time to check out Hungry Hut!

My search for a local pizza spot took me to a lot of places... until I landed at The Hungry Hut. This is where my search stopped. A family run business that makes pizza, donairs, wings, burgers...etc. They are fantastic people that make fantastic food. I LOVE their pizza and their donairs. Whenever its pizza night, we order and pick up... just so we can stop by for a visit.

Ive never eaten here. Its across the street from where my parents live.
