an elevated European farm-to-table experience
What an absolutely wonderful experience. Every aspect from the decor, the music, the knowledgeable and friendly staff, to the incredible menu was amazing. The cocktails I had went beautifully with the meal, and each dish felt thoughtful and approachable while maintaining a consistent presentation of fine dining. I can't wait to go back and will absolutely be recommending it to friends and family.
Oxalis was amazing! The menu blew us away—every dish was creative, delicious, and beautifully presented. The staff was super friendly!
This is a world class restaurant. If you are in Halifax take the easy to access ferry and have a memorable meal. We focused on sea food accompanied by a wonderful Nova Scotia chardonnay. The service was relaxed and professional. If you appreciate fine dining without pretension this is your restaurant.
What a fabulous place! This restaurants rivals the Michelin Star restaurants back at home in Vancouver. The food was beautifully presented and tastes just as good as it looks… multidimensional flavours and textures… every bite so yummy! …. And the service!!! The servers attended to us impeccably…. We felt pampered throughout the evening. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Just stepping in, the design & ambiance was lovely. We went to Oxalis to celebrate my girlfriend’s promotion in fine dining style and it did not disappoint. They had a full house but somehow, our waiter Scott, made us feel like we were the only ones there. The food was immaculate! Well presented and the taste superb. We will definitely be returning. 10/10 would recommend!
Excellent. Very strong dishes. No doubt one of the best spot around. Must go for foodies. Lovely service and atmosphere. Chef’s tasting is great to sample all the amazing dishes on offer.
Absolutely perfect restaurant. I was dining alone for one of my first times, and the team here was awesome. The food was great. The atmosphere was incredible. I would love to go back next time I am in town.
Amazing spot in Dartmouth, a good break from the more tourist spots in Halifax that looked crowded. Friendly servers, decent selection of wine, beautiful presentation, and outdoor patio. Amuse bouche to start and macarons at the end were a superb touch!
Truly an incredible experience. Ive been to a number of great restaurants, and the attention to detail present at Oxalis was divine. Every dish was multidimensional with consideration and care for flavour, texture, and presentation. Ive included a photo, but it doesnt do the meal justice. I never knew Dartmouth was even capable of such excellence. Will absolutely be back.
One of the best restaurants Ive ever been to. The food was next level, the schnitzel was perfectly cooked and had really light delicious breading and the bratkartoffeln was so savory and Moorish. The desserts were homeruns too. I prefer affogato, which camemwith brown butter ice cream and the wife got the creme brulee. The table next to us was nice enough to gift us the dessert from their tasting menu, and the marshmallows were so good! Very soft and melty. Our server (who was also the co-owner) was so thoughtful and attentive, and the kitchen staff moved like a well oiled machine. It was close to the end of the night, so a round for the kitchen staff was obligatory! Cant recommend this place enough!
Horrible experience. Terrible customer service and over hyped.
Five Star all the way. Ravioli appetizer was superb, everything else was great. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic experience start to finish.
Wonderful establishment
I went for the first time last weekend and did the tasting menu for my birthday. It was truly a wonderful experience and worth every penny. The food and service and atmosphere were outstanding and even a little whimsical! Lots of little surprises throughout the evening made it so fun. I ll be dreaming about the food for a long time! Thank you for such a great evening!
We had a great experience. Food was great, everything was perfect.
They refuse to prepare a simple plant-based dish. Imagine being that rigid and inflexible and pretentious.
A delicious and memorable experience from start to finish. My friend and I went to Oxalis for our birthdays and had the chefs menu. It was for sure one of the best meals of my life. So delicious. Would definitely recommend and will be back next time I m in town.
Unreal experience over at Oxalis in Dartmouth. Was greeted by a convivial staff as we made our way through the downstairs dining room to a real hidden gem of a backyard patio space. Opulent and lovely with its greenery covered canopy but approachable and homey (saw some staff cutting herbs from the garden for service, pretty awesome). Stephen and Sophia were an absolute delight as they served us beautifully presented and balanced dishes. Playlist also rocked. Overall - a wonderfully curated, playful and delicious experience on the plates, complete with the feeling and humanity of the good natured humans behind them. Ill definitely be back.
We had the pleasure of experiencing Oxalis recently and it was absolutely outstanding! The food was exquisite, the service impeccable and the overall experience was truly memorable. Every dish was a delight and the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. I can t recommend this place highly enough! We will be back!
Oxalis is a phenomenal gastric experience from beginning to end. The first bite was creative and delicious; my bouche was thoroughly amused, as promised. Chef-foraged wild Nova Scotia mushrooms, a delicacy featured on the menu, thoughtfully considers a sustainable, innovative point of view on fine dining. A notion carried through each dish. The dining experience feels orderly and elevated, but warm and cozy. Whether youre in the mood to indulge in the tasting menu with a loved one, or if youd prefer to just relax with a vibrant cocktail on the patio after work, Oxalis is WHERE. ITS. AT.
Oxalis offers exceptional food, service, and atmosphere. Consistently amazed by how the creative team can offer such a unique and incredible experience time and time again. As a diner of over a dozen visits, I can say with confidence that Oxalis and their ever evolving menu offer the best meal in the city and beyond. Highly, highly recommend.
Very friendly place, good atmosphere, friendly service team, good food but... quantities on the plate a little low!
I ve dined here three times and have been blown away each time - the quality of the food paired with the preparation and flavour combinations is out of this world. If you re looking for a truly special diner experience, the Chef s tasting menu is amazing. The service was excellent as well; we felt appreciated, welcomed, and well looked after. Oxalis is my top restaurants in the city, and I can t wait to go back!
Exquisite experience from entering the front door until we left. The cocktails and food were expertly prepared and presented.
First time visit. Dined in the upstairs section, quite small but thankfully quiet. Surprised by the amount of DaftPunk songs being played, quite brave for an high end experience! Thankfully more of a funky background ambience than a thumping discothèque. Solid service with care. One small gripe with the way beer is presented with no indication of volume which might come as a surprise for some newcomers (its a small glass). Food was why I was here and that didnt disapoint. This included the cheese spatzel which Im still thinking about on a daily basis, it looks so simple with little ingredients but it was ultimately a perfect dish in every regard. It almost kills me to think this may never be available again as apparently the menu changes quite frequently. The desert Under the lemon tree is a genius summer treat that somehow tastes even better than it looks. Very much a special occasion place that Id be very happy to return to from time to time.
Went here to celebrate my bfs birthday. Amazing food. Such fun and bold flavors. Its a fancy place but we couldnt help but lick the plates clean.
Never reserve a table with this restaurant. Their cancelation policy is designed to make you pay 50$. Basically you have no chance to cancel. I book a reservation online on Friday at midnight. I tried cancelling / moving my reservation online and it said unless I cancel on Friday at 8:PM I would get charged 50$. Hows that possible? Fix your policy. Im also reporting this charge to the fraud department. You cant have cancellation time that is before the reservation time.
First time here. We are locals and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. It s a welcome gem in the downtown.
Overall we thought it was just fair. Some of it may be due to variability in seating and server. We thought the food was pretty good and presented well, perhaps bordering on pretentious. The atmosphere was ok, but felt much more casual than expected for an expensive place. We were at at small table upstairs, very nestled in with another large group of people that were quite noisy. The table barely had enough room to fit our plates. Our server was prompt but not overly friendly and seemed confused/annoyed when we asked what we thought were a few simple questions about the menu. Our glasses of wine had a bunch of sediment in it and we sent it back. 20 minutes later someone at another table sent back the same wine for the same reason. I m not sure if they poured from the same bottle or what. Some of the experience reminded me of the movie The Menu IIRC. So much focus on making the food fancy, but you end up wanting to get a burger on the way home. Also seen another table get what looked like a DIY s mores dessert, they were roasting a single marshmallow over a candle. I thought that was a bit funny. I think they had a s mores gag in The Menu movie as well. Overall we felt like the whole experience was overpriced for what we got, and I ve been in nicer places with better service that cost half as much.
One of the best meals of my life. No standouts, solely because everything was perfect.
Wow ! Great food experience, amazing flavours and textures! Plated with perfection! Top notch chef, servers and setting ! highly , highly recommend
Expertly prepared and presented. Delicious!
Hands down, the best food in HRM. Nothing else comes close. Go for the chef s experience.
Our group of 30 people were treated to an over the top no energy Earth Day dining experience at Oxalis, April 22, 2024. Sophia and her team were outstanding. The creativity and energy that went into making our evening a super special and memorable experience was greatly appreciated. The meal was 11/10. Creativity in the menu and extra surprises and touches in every course. By far the most special dining experience I have enjoyed in Halifax to date. Oxalis needs to be on your bucket list! Thanks Sophia and team!
Absolutely Sensational experience. Stephen was a delight, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend the chefs experience .
We had the tasting menu. Everything was amazing. No notes.
Simplified dishes, atmosphere and experience. Worth checking out for a Dartmouth experience.
I confess I came for the Brotzeit and Spätzle. The ambience of the restaurant reminded us of a cozy and intimate diner in the Alps. The staff and the owner were kind and attentive. The foraged plants were full of flavours and elevated the dishes. The cocktails were delicious. The main courses were hearty (just as I missed), artistic, thoughtful, local and sustainable. The dessert was interesting and balanced. Cannot wait to return to try more items!
Oxalis is incredible, my husband and I had the wild boar ravioli and I couldnt believe the amount of components that came together to make something so tasty. we also had the Spätzle and the pork belly, done to perfection. Finishing off with the chocolate dessert. I really recommend sitting downstairs near the kitchen. So fun to watch the Chef and his staff working together to bring the plating together in a timely manner. Thank you Sophia for an unforgettable experience and we will definitely be back!
Tried Oxalis for the first time and we really liked it. The service is excellent and friendly, the atmosphere was quiet and welcoming. Great quality food, but portions are small and it aint cheap. Despite that, we will certainly return. AAA+ Dietary restrictions: There are gluten free options.
This restaurant never fails to delight and awaken my senses. The attention to detail is evident throughout your meal. Service is impeccable.
What an absolutely sensational experience. I used to be quite pessimistic (and juvenile) regarding my perspective of being served small dishes at a much larger cost. Oxalis has shown me the light. I can say with utter confidence now I get it. I also struggle with upscale environments as I find I stand out and do not belong. This place did not make me feel that way in the slightest. This is in part due to the decor, which is refined and welcoming, but also largely owes itself to the staff who were extremely professional, courteous, and knowledgeable without coming off as pretentious. The food was INCREDIBLE. If you seek a culinary experience that expands the limits of your palette, skip the waterfront, and come to Oxalis. You will not be disappointed.
This is an amazing restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious and the presentation is incredibly unique. The staff are knowledgeable and perfectly delightful. This gem of a restaurant is an epicurial experience. Highly recommend.
Excellent Chefs Experience menu. Loved the food, and wine pairing, the pace was calm and not rushed. Only thing Id suggest to improve the atmosphere is the music, but that is personal preference. Will be back!
Amazing food. Amazing service. Super unique for Halifax.
Incredible food, excellent service
Valentines tasting menu: - Beautiful service - very detailed lovely folks - Wine pairings were spot on - Elegant/ uniqur platters presentations i.e. artichoke foam (5/5 no question) if you want a different experience - Lovely touch at the end with the rose/chocolate covered strawberries - Delicious baguette from LF, herbed butter, duck carpaccio - The icecream had a pine cone sap type of topping - lovely - Atmosphere could use some more luxurious/elegant touches i.e. artwork, plants, bar lighting etc. - For the price the atmosphere/food taste was underwhelming, would have altered for more complementing flavours, steak was tough on the taste could use a bit more seasoning
Went for the valentine menu Menu was lazy and boring Definitely a good spot to come take pretty pictures of your food but food it self was underwhelming Food : 2/5
The five of us celebrated a birthday, we had the Chef s Experience menu. I asked mine to be pescatarian. Brotzeit was very good, especially the bread itself and the flavored butter. The arctic char wasn t to my liking probably because it was cured. It s the dish I liked the least, several of us agreed on that. The ravioli were amazing, I am Swiss and oh boy I appreciated, the Gruyère flavor. The corn foam soup was outstanding, my favorite I have to say. I ate the Bass instead of the meat and that was also spectacular, the chestnut gnocchi were so yummy. The gianduja mousse was very good, especially the hazelnuts. It was a bit too heavy for me. I would have preferred something with fruit, but that s just personal. Coffee was very good as well which is much appreciated. Our server was very attentive, food was served at the same time. The wine was appropriate but an explanation of the paired wine chosen would have been appreciated. The atmosphere was very good, the restaurant is very beautiful, the area was big enough, we had privacy. Overall a great experience I recommend it, without hesitation.
My wife and I celebrated her birthday here. We were just blown away that this level of cuisine is available in Dartmouth. I ve had great meals all around the world and this was very memorable. Everything is delicious and plated with amazing attention to detail. What a great addition to the HRM s culinary revolution.
I dont know that Ive ever had a truly spectacular meal in Halifax until this one. Oxalis really impressed me and as someone whos in the culinary industry myself, its not easy to do. The seasoning was on point, every bite was different and incredibly perfect. My god this meal was PHENOMENAL. 11/10 would recommend. These guys are doing SUCH exciting things!
Fantastic staff and exceptional food. From thoughtful balance to creative options and pairings.- The experience is truly wonderful every time. Thank you!
Tasting menu, damn. Everything was so good, small little portions of just the most delicious flavours. We started off with delicious (jf bakery) bread and butter (god, do i love butter). Thankfully there was definitely enough butter for my bread. Then we had oysters that tasted very similar to cold Chinese jellyfish salad, this beautiful perfect scallop with caviar, a dumpling (decent), a beet dish that was fun but okay, steak that was perfect and this brown butter ice cream for dessert. I ve been waiting to go here for so long and I m SO glad it was worth the wait. The waiter Guillaume very French, very friendly and very pleasant. The downstairs is kitchen seating, it s a bit smokier and louder (more kitchen action if youre info that) or sit upstairs where it s quieter and fancier. Had the seasonal cocktails as well and they were great! Will definitely come back here again
So much flavour!! Absolutely delicious!
We went for Valentines Day and had the tasters menu + a few other items and were able to share everything. It was a great way to try a lot of the menu. The space, the service, the food- everything was so thoughtfully done and exceeded our expectations. We cant wait to go back!
Was there for a date night. Exquisite service and the dessert was the best Ive ever had. Cannot recommend enough!
Great dining experience! The duck was fantastic! Can t wait for our next visit.
Fabulous fine dining in the heart of downtown Dartmouth. Food is exceptional. Drinks good. Service great. Backyard is an oasis. Highly recommend if fine dining is your thing
We tried Oxalis for the first time & took advantage of the Dine Around Halifax menu. The service, taste and presentation were all flawless. The oysters that were added to the dinner were spectacular & my husband practically drank the mignonette. The complimentary sweet at the tens was a nice surprise. We will be back to enjoy again.
Tried here a summer Saturday night, with reservations of course, and got one of the two seater tables. The place is very tiny with seating for maybe a dozen in the room? Theres a patio out back for those who like that, but I didnt get a good look at how large. And something tells me theres an upstairs, so maybe there is actually more seating than I realize. Anyway, excellent service. Although my friend and I ordered a lot of different things and shared, I dont remember enough detail right now to get into them (normally write this stuff out right away for a reason! LOL). There WAS an adorable little art sculpted butter that looked like one of those tiny piennolo cherry tomatoes. I THOUGHT it was a tomato, but it was butter. So presentation was excellent and I do recall enjoying the taste of everything, just no more detail than that. I want to get back here soon to try some new things and maybe repeats, depending on whats on the menu.
Wonderful experience and a great date night spot with my spouse. Hostess and waiter were friendly and super helpful in ensuring we had a terrific night.
The most incredible dining experience I ve ever had. Unlike anything you can get anywhere in NS!!!
5/5 In all categories. Atmosphere, service, and most importantly the food. Also the cocktails are delicious and perfectly balanced. I recommend this place to everyone except the vegan crowd as there isn t much on the menu for y all. We were there for our anniversary dinner tonight and we will most certainly be back.
We took a chance without a reservation and what a great decision. From the moment we entered, staff made us feel welcome. Midnight cocktail was delicious and my companion enjoyed the Old Pal cocktail immensely. Very nice wine options as well. Brotzeit was delicious and the flavoured butters... Ooof, so good. We shared a charcoal haddock starter as well with risotto and wow, delight all around We decided to share the Pork Schnitzel and it was an excellent decision. Staff took time to explain the dishes, make suggestions and were diligent determining whether there are food allergies or sensitivities. A real gem and I will definitely return. Soon.
A very enjoyable and tasty experience
Thank you for an incredible dining experience. Every dish was creative, authentic and delicious! Everything from the decor to your staff is top notch. We loved the experience so much, we went back the next night. A must visit gem in downtown Dartmouth. One of the best dinning experiences in Nova Scotia.
Superb! Beat dining experience in Halifax. Period.
They care, and it shows. Thank you. Top notch.
Great food and friendly staff. Our fav place in HRM.
My wife and I celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary at Oxalis It was exceptional. The service was attentive. The ambiance perfect and the food was spectacular. The price was not as high as we thought it would be as well. Overall this is a real find and we would highly recommend it to others
Such a lovely and unique dining experience. The food is delicious and beautifully plated, highlighting local seasonal produce. Fun cocktails and thoughtful wine pairings. Amazing garden patio in the summer. I love this spot!
Went with a small group of three, had a wonderful time. The food and beverages were all outstanding. Service was prompt and friendly. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an upscale dinner in the HRM!
Truly a unique experience yet far to costly for what you actually get. Food is fantastic but small portions. Knew what we were getting into, so we were not surprised.
The attention to detail with both food and decor is unmatched. My husband and I had a great time and enjoyed every single dish (even though one dish had mushrooms and truffles - typically I like neither!) We did the tasting menu and found it to be really affordable compared to other tasting menus we have done. The cocktails were delicious and the service was friendly.
My wife and I had dinner at Oxalis for the first time on July 15th in celebration of our 37th wedding anniversary. We were blown away by the great food (beautiful presentation and amazingly good). We also were impressed with the service (the staff were all very attentive, engaging and pleasant) as well as the ambiance (the limited number of tables - mostly two person and a few 4 person max it appears - resulted in a very serene atmosphere and low nose level allowing for easy/pleasant conversation - not the case in many restaurants in HRM these days). Not inexpensive but definitely worth it. One of, if not the best, restaurants in HRM right now. We will definitely be going back.
This restaurant is a must try in HRM. The food presentation was beautiful the food quality amazing. Each dish was a delight for both tastebuds and the eyes. Bravo to this chef. Chef menu and wine pairing was reasonable for this quality. Do not miss this opportunity. We will be back with every menu change.
Amazing food! The charcoal haddock was the top experience for us. We would recommend ordering wine VS cocktails.
Excellent experience
Our first time visiting Oxalis and hopefully not our last. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic as well. Highly recommend.
Went to Oxalis for my birthday dinner a couple of weekends ago. I dont think I have ever had such a sophisticated dining experience in my life here in Maritimes! Their dishes were works of art and took us on an incredible journey of flavors. Service was top notch and I loved the woodland and earthy theme in the decor and food. The portions are not big but I prefer quality over quantity. HIGHLY recommend!
Food and service was excellent! Atmosphere was better after AC was turned on!
This is a tricky one because the food is well considered and very creative. It s the kind of place you go when the food is the point. We went with friends and the staff kept interrupting our conversation flow in order to share details about each dish. They made us feel like we were fortunate to be there and we should stop talking and listen to them. It was also too loud and the music choices were distracting and also far too loud. The mock-tails were delicious and despite dire warnings on the website they were open to accommodating some changes for vegetarians. It s extremely expensive (especially considering the California style tiny portions and that it s mostly locally sourced) but it is tasty and creative.
We did the tasting menu with wine pairing. Spectacular food, fantastic service, excellent ambiance. Highly recommended.
Went here for my Anniversary dinner, the food was spectacular. The Brotzeit was amazing and both my wife and i loved our mains. The foods quite pricey but deffinately worth going for a special occasion
This restaurant was recommended to me and I decided that this was my going to be my birthday option. From the welcome to the knowledgeable servers and the FOOD, I could not have experienced better. I opted for the Chefs Experience which was $135 for 6 courses and they ALL WERE DELICIOUS! The plating, taste and ambience was top notch . Takeaways: although there wasn t a kids menu they were able to craft the pork schnitzel and potatoes to cater to a childs need. However, I would say this restaurant is for a mire grown up experience. For those complaining of small portions of food this would not suit your dining needs as this restaurant is most definitely offers an elevated experience for refined pallets. Wheelchair accessibility: Did not notice any accessibility.
Excellent service, memorable food and cocktails and really good value, portion size etc Pretty amazing what Oxalis is able to offer in terms of quality, artistry, attention to detail and price when so many places around town offer a lot less for a higher price. We love it and it is a fantastic spot for a date or special occasion. They re happy to provide menu guidance and help if you have any dietary restrictions or want a mocktail (pregnancy for example). We will be back again and again
Fantastic food. Very pleasant staff. Downstairs is a bit cramped.
Our second time dining there it was was a very enjoyable expirence. Food was delicious. Service was amazing. We definitely want to come back and try the chefs menu.
Would have been better if served some breads.
We had the tasting menu and it was flawless! One of the best dining experiences Ive had in Halifax.
Wow. This place is the bomb. Super friendly staff and great wine list. We tried everything but settled on mushroom dish and pork schnitzel which were awesome. We had oysters. One of our party had the fish but found the quantity a bit lacking. Pumpkin pie was super fun.
Great food and atmosphere
A first time visit and went with the Tasting Menu for a broad view of numerous dishes. It was superb - the best dining experience I have had in HRM. The quality of the food was outstanding as was the friendly and courteous service. We had the benefit of a table with a kitchen view which allowed us to watch artists at work as the plating was over the top. A tough call on a favorite serving but a toss up between the Truffle Tagliatelle or the Braised Beef Cheek . Having said that , any of the dishes would bring me back. Highly recommended.
5 stars truly isn t enough for this place. The food was as delicious as it was beautiful, and the service was top notch.
We had a great experience at Oxalis. Our server was a complete pleasure and the food was delicious! Every cocktail on their menu was tasty, specifically the insomniac and paper plane. We also enjoyed their focaccia, truffle taligete as well as the shrimp cappilleni. The beef cheek was a favourite dish at the table as well as the Atlantic Cod. For desert i had the hazelnut mousse and it eas delicious and perfectly light. Wed definitely come back here again.
The best place hands down in HRM. The food and presentation is incredible and service is top notch. Youll be craving more in no time, highly recommend.
So delicious and imaginative! Im thrilled that we finally have a place like this in Dartmouth.
Excellent flavours, good ambience, great service, and they were very accommodating of gluten sensitivity. We will certainly be back! Perfect for a special date night.
This is a very understated and fantastic addtion to our local culinary scene. Not only is it a rare fine dining option in Dartmouth which has been sorely needed on this side of the harbor for as long as I can remember, but it is a testament to what fine dining can be with both Germanic and Austrian influence. My wife and I dined here for our wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. From the fact we were served by the co owner, to the long conversation we had with her partner and head chef at the end of the meal. The flavors were on par with anything we have experienced in fine dining. The portions were still very generous and the wine pairings were top notch. I highly recommend this spot to any and all that appreciate food with extreme dedication to plating, which at times resembled works of art. There is a lot of care put into this food. Not only was the plating inspired, but the flavors and ambiance matched the thought put into the creation of the dishes. Great job. I can not wait to see what they come up with next!
Phenomenal food, drinks and service. We ordered on menu, but I would likely do Chefs Experience next time. Cocktails were of the chart, top shelf ingredients with top notch results. Couldnt have asked for a better spot for dinner with my SO.
A fantastic addition to Downtown Dartmouth. We ate an early Valentines dinner here last night, and it was a wonderful experience. The service was awesome, cocktail was perfect, and every dish from the amuse-bouche to desert tasted incredible.
This experience was a beautiful representation of art prepared my an amazing chef and kitcen staff while enjoying in a relaxing and comfortable environment. From a simple brotzeit with its in-house bread and butters to the not a mushroom dessert, every single bite was uniquely surprising and soul satisfying. Thank you to the staff and owners for creating a perfect dining experience which left me smiling and wishing that it was publically acceptable to lick the plates.
Girlfriend proposed to me there. One of the best steaks iv ever had. Great night ,
Really enjoyed having dinner here. Great service, great food! Really nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend
Had been eagerly awaiting the opening of this place for some time, and Im happy to report that it was worth the wait! Weve been here a couple of times and every dish has been excellent so far. The soups are super smooth and flavourful, and the Tagliatelle is phenomenal! The menu is limited so make sure you check it out before you go - I do wish they had more vegetarian options - but Oxalis is definitely one of the best new restaurants in Halifax.
Delicious!
beautiful meal - everything feels like it has been personally attended to. great food - very technique driven, but not too tweezer-y. still feels like it comes from an honest place. Truffle tagliatelle is worth a visit alone. Best of luck to these folks - we will definitely be back.
Simply incredible! You can tell they take pride in the food they serve, and put in so much thought into making the food! We drove from New Brunswick to Halifax and booked way in advance to have dinner there - I am so glad that we did! The truffle tagliatelle is out of this world.
Amazing atmosphere and service! Everyone was so friendly and Im pretty sure we got to meet everyone working. Bartender brought us drinks, host our server and even the owner was there! The food was AMAZING the special beef was so good. Melt in your mouth and delicious. The food is truely art. The dessert was beautiful, tasty and obviously made with great care. The special cocktail was delicious and beautiful. The coffee cocktail made with mezcal was very strong. Over all a 10/10 experience we will definitely be back and bring all our friends.
every dish was unbelievably good!
Fabulous meal!
Oxalis is a fantastic addition to downtown Dartmouth! It s definitely a gem. I ve been to the restaurant on several occasions, and every time the service and food has been amazing! Sophia is so kind and hospitable. I also like that the menu changes frequently.
We finally made it to Oxalis and WOW! Erin was our server. From beginning to end, she was professional, personable and I truly appreciated how she detailed each intricate dish the chef prepared. The presentation of each course was so special and unique, but more importantly, the culinary team knocked it out of the park with quality, taste, a melange of flavors and innovation. As I looked around, I was not the only one sneekily dipping my finger in for one last taste. This restaurant provides an experience not to be missed. I highly recommend and cannot wait to be back.
We like Oxalis and we will be back. But, there are a couple of things this time on which they failed, hence the 4 star review. Portions, well I would say they were small but I had the Cod and it was smaller than an appetizer. I dont want a giant piece of fish but 3 bites for a mains is a bit lean in anyones books. Also, they were missing a key ingredient from another meal and served it without telling us or our server. And offered no substitution until we asked. The Steak was OK but frankly, we have had much better off our own grill. Overall, food quality and presentation is Very good. Service is Excellent. Prices are high compared to the quantity of the food served. Several of our group stated they would not return which is too bad as we were excited to introduce them to this place.
A wonderful experience at Oxalis. The atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable. All good was delicious. The menu is limited but that s great, because you know they will all be delicious. The staff were friendly and very helpful, making suggestions when we were indecisive. Highly recommend.
Outstanding service. Outstanding food. Making a very good case for the new best restaurant in Halifax. Prices are commensurate with the quality of the product, so be ready for that. Well worth it.
The food was amazing, everything was above and beyond, will definitely be going back, glad to have a place like this back in Dartmouth
The atmosphere there was amazing! The server there were super nice and friendly, and they would give a detailed introduction on every single plate. As for the food, some of them were absolutely amazing! We got the tasting menu with some other plates to try different items, I really enjoyed the Brotzeit which had three different kinds of butter, the pasta, the salmon and the desert. Some of the plates were bit more salty than I would like. I give 4 stars as the price was pretty high, but overall really good experience!
An amazing dining experience! Everything at Oxalis was incredible; food, atmosphere, service - it s my new favorite restaurant. Can t wait to go back!
Oxalis offers exceptional, high quality, extremely unique food, unlike any other in the province. The service is impeccable. The drinks are delicious (best vodka martini in the city!!) and the atmosphere is cozy, intimate and relaxed. I could not recommend this place more. Dartmouth is lucky to have such a special addition.
Oxalis is in class of its own. Incredible food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommend for an upscale dinner!
I did not taste anything good here, the duck is literally BeiJing duck tastes like, which you can buy from Asian grocery for 10 dollars. For the beef cheek, Im sure theres nothing worse than this dish. Two people for 200 , its DEF NoT worth it. The good thing is the service and atmosphere of the restaurant..BUT if you go for food quality, youll be disappointed
I ve been to Oxalis many times and I always receive impeccable service. The food looks like art and tastes even better. It s my favourite restaurant in the city. I recommend it to anyone visiting and locals who haven t been. In addition to the exquisite service and food, the decor is stunning and the entire menu is a full experience that will keep you coming back for more.
Welcoming friendly staff, pleasant relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and cocktails. Similar to other high end restaurants, portions are quite tiny and everything is very expensive. Only complaint was that we waited too long between finishing the appetizers and getting our mains.
This is such a gem of a restaurant! Not only is everything well portioned and full of flavour but their presentation really elevates the whole experience. There is nothing I wouldnt recommend, everything we had was delicious anf the staff was amazing and welcoming.
The food and wine list was fantastic. We will be back for sure!
Amazing food, tasting menu was a great experience.
The food is delicious, the portions are very small, my husband had the bass, we had to get a cheeseburger on the way home. Very nice atmosphere and a great place for date night if you re not very hungry
Surprised by our poor experience after reading good reviews. My husband s steak was literally one tiny piece that was one ounce or less in size, they left the salad off my plate completely, didn t tell patrons what the wine pairings were, roast potatoes undercooked and hard. Maybe the cooks were running out of food and stamina at end of night???? I had to keep refilling my own wine glass, including when server came to table to check in although my glass was empty. And then the server tried to take away our bottle of wine from the table before it was empty! I only gave them two stars instead of one as the schnitzel was as good as any I had in Germany. And finally - why was there foam served with more of the food than not??? I felt like we had gone back 15 years in time. We will not be venturing across the bridge to revisit for sure. So many amazing restaurants in Halifax to get far better service and food at a fraction of the price.
Oxalis has become my favourite restaurant in Halifax and Dartmouth. The food is full of flavour and the dishes are thoughtfully put together with local ingredients. The presentation is the closest to Michelin Star I have seen in Atlantic Canada. The service is fantastic, the staff is knowledgeable and sincerely want you to enjoy your experience. Sophia and Andy are lovely, I cannot say more good things about Oxalis. You NEED to make a stop to Oxalis you will not regret it!
Oxalis is a one of a kind dining experience in Dartmouth. The tasting menu is expertly curated featuring the best of what Atlantic Canada has to offer. If not in the mood for a tasting menu, the a la carte options are perfect for a special night out, an evening of cocktails and sharing, or even just because! The service at Oxalis is second to none. The staff are friendly, extremely knowledgeable and make you feel like they appreciate you dining at the restaurant. No detail is left unnoticed at Oxalis, and it shows not only in the food, but in the decor as well. Their new patio is a must see - and you can even bring your dog! Everything from the food to the staff is exceptional - it is a must experience restaurant in HRM.
Chef Andi and his team take such great care every time I ve dined there to elevate the experience. I highly suggest the tasting menu to really sample all the local amazing curated foods the restaurant has to offer! A must try for 10/10 service and atmosphere!
Phenomenal ambience, staff, drinks, and food. No detail is overlooked. Oxalis is in a league of its own!
Not to miss restaurant in Dartmouth! Menu is thoughtfully curated, exceptional service. Cant wait to come back!
We were absolutely blown away! The service, the food, the atmosphere everything was top notch. We will definitely be back time and time again! Special shout out to Guillaume who was one of the most incredible waiters we ve ever had, best food & service in Halifax hands down!
Hands down the best dining experience I ve ever had in Halifax
This is probably the best restaurant Ive dined at in Dartmouth/Halifax. The chefs menu was the perfect option to get a taste of everything. The euro inspired cuisine was delicious and so perfectly curated. The attention to detail of all aspects of the restaurant was also well thought out. Perfect for a date night
Dine in with 5 friends and had a lovely time food was amazing and service was excellent. Highly recommended
A trip to Oxalis is a cant miss occasion if you find yourself in Downtown Dartmouth. Located just off the downtown branch of Portland Street, the restaurant is at 22 Wentworth, in a quaint, black building which is quite a contrast to its surroundings. Unassuming at first, but youll be in for quite the surprise. Inside, the main floor is intimate, laid out with three tables neighboring an open kitchen, simple but clean decor and a modern touch. Continuing beyond that takes you to the patio, an open, relatively large space, encapsulated by modern, wooden slat fencing. With enough seating to fit the entire restaurant outdoor, its a wonderful complement, with plush cushions covering bench seating along the left hand wall, and tables filling the rest of the space. Fairy lights dance overhead, creating a cozy, private space, perfect for a summer night, or a picturesque autumn evening. You may be thinking, three tables inside, why so many out, but thats where Oxalis again shines with its second floor. A bar welcomes you at the top of the stairs, opening into a rather large level, home to nearly triple the capacity of the main floor. Again, the interior is modern, simple, but clean, a touch of class that is echoed throughout this wonderful establishment. Enough about the space however, as this is a restaurant after all, and a fine restaurant it is indeed. A simple menu, the options can vary slightly, as everything is local and based around what seasonal offerings are available. Thats not to say they dont push the envelope when it comes to quality, though, with everything served with top quality ingredients, fresh; the best of the best. Serving a menu that combines German and Austrian cuisine with an east coast flavor, youre in for a treat no matter what you request. Even simple bread and butter appetizers are made with flair, from the presentation to the sheer quality, and that very much extends to the service. When there, we were treated, and that may be an understatement, by wonderful service, waited by a man named Guillaume, who (and I may seem like a broken record by this point), could sell a book to an illiterate. Charming, knowledgeable, classy, he personifies everything this downtown Dartmouth fixture is. Everything about Oxalis was a complete joy. From the first second to the last, you will fall in love with it, a place and name that will end up at the top of your list of must-visit spots and a restaurant that really makes Dartmouth proud.
Best fine dining experience in HRM. Their Taste menu and wine pairing are a must. Sophia, Andy and their staff always make you feel like a special guest. Food, service, ambience and overall experience are five stars. Love their patio.
A magical dining experience in the heart of Dartmouth. Oxalis has raised the bar in Nova Scotia. The Michelin Guide recently expanded into Canada and this establishment is very worthy of their consideration.
Dietary restrictions: Shellfish allergy was handled with ease and provided excellent substitutions.
A gastronomic evening that will not be forgotten. Attentive and friendly service. A Quebec waiter, Guillaume. Chef Andreas Preuss and his team prepared extraordinary dishes for us. A restaurant that could be featured in Air Canada s En Route magazine.
I ve been fortunate to eat at some of the best restaurants around the world. Oxalis is one of the very best. The menu was intriguing but not pretentious. The setting was perfect (fabulous summer patio). The food was absolutely outstanding!! It s not cheap. But if you can afford to splurge a little, it s definitely worth it. The service is outstanding as well. This is a hidden gem in old Dartmouth. Long may it prosper!
There were so many things that went wrong I didnt know where to start. The 6 Fresh Shucked Oysters were surprisingly small, squishy and full of water. The worse oysters we have ever had. I dont know why they decided to serve them after opening them and seeing them like that. My Mushroom Consommé was tasty, but the portion was tiny for what it costs. The cornish hen was salty and dry. There was a hair on my friends Pork Schnitzel, but we were too hungry to complain then. The restaurant was overcrowded in such a small space we could barely hear ourselves. The air conditioner blew cold air directly over our heads. Our servers were too busy and rushed, we didnt feel like we can talk to them. The entire experience was incredibly underwhelming. We decided to leave after the main course to go to another restaurant.
Such a cool experience! All the courses were awesome and the plating was so fun and creative. Service really had that fine dining feel. The price is what really surprised me, for what you get its actually very well priced
It is a surprise to find a place like Oxalis that you really want, after a short-term exploration in this city. Choosing a restaurant, especially for special occasions, becomes more challenging. Oxailis deserves the expectation. I can understand that why it could get top 2 position in Halifax dinning. No matter for casual dinning, or fine dinning exploration, it could always be on your to-go list. They also serve wine paring for the chef s tasting menu, which bring the experience to a higher level. Definitely want to come back for next try. Maybe for the new year s celebration!
What an Incredible dining experience! The food was absolutely amazing and the service and atmosphere were top notch! This place is doing such a creative, playful and delicious take on food. Hands down the best restaurant in Halifax! Do not miss out on Oxalis. Perfect for a romantic date night, catching up with old friends, or wining and dining out of town guests! We will definitely be back!!
This was my third dinner at Oxalis, each time a few months apart. My experience has been less positive each time although it is still one of the best restaurants in HRM to my mind. The first time was great, with a well balanced menu and an upscale atmosphere. The second time was very good with an anticlimactic experience of the chocolate dessert. And this third time was just good with some of the dishes being oversalted and the noise in the restaurant being nearly unbearable as well as some of the food service being impatient even if in a subtle way. Kudos to the bartender for creative mocktails.
Nice to have an upscale location in Dartmouth but I found Oxalis just missed the mark. The food is good. Refined and interesting but not a home run as at price point might suggest. That said, the menu changes frequently so I may have to try it again. Service was great and the atmosphere was nice.
Best restaurant in Nova Scotia!!!
My favourite restaurant in Nova Scotia!!
Delicious food, beautifully and creatively presented! Lovely atmosphere and top notch service! I can t wait to return! Highly recommend!!!
Fabulous food, fantastic and attentive staff, lovely location. Congrats on your opening - wish you every success! Will def return!!
10/10 Food and service! Nice to have this restaurant in DT Dartmouth! Highly recommended! We ll be back soon!
Everything was spot on well be back!
Very nice food.
It is nice to have an up-scale restaurant in Dartmouth, so I hope this place makes a go of it. The food was excellent and staff were friendly and attentive. Portions were small, and sometimes I was not sure what I was sampling, but it was all tasty. Their menu is not extensive but the choices were varied and all good. I was very impressed with everything about this place. It looks like they completely gutted the old house and completely started from scratch designing an intimate interesting restaurant.
I was REALLY impressed with this place. The service from beginning to end was excellent. The food was honestly incredible, from the little Amuse Bouche we received to the appetizer, main course and dessert. The highlight for me was either the mushroom tortellini or the apple dessert. The spot we sat had a direct view into the kitchen, and we d loved seeing them plate the dishes. Definitely high artistic skill in the preparation and plating. It s nice to have a fine dining establishment over in Dartmouth. If you want to impress someone with a vibe AND great food, this place is a great choice. Forgive my photos, I wanted to get more dishes in one photo if possible
Amazing
Fantastic! Chefs tasting menu was decadent from start to finish. Elevated and refined dining experience yet the space was welcoming. We will definitely make the trek over the bridge again for this place.
amazing food, impeccable service
Exquisite, delicious.
Tonight was our first time, but my partner and I both agreed before even finishing our meals that this is our new go-to spot. The atmosphere, service, and (of course) food was phenomenal. Finally, a true elevated dining experience in Downtown Dartmouth.
