Side Hustle Snack Bar in Dartmouth

The food here is usually decent (The Smashie is great, as is the Morning Hustle) but its expensive and many portions are small. However the Diner breakfast today was not good; tasteless eggs, burnt bacon and dry toast. It stings a little to be expected to tip 18% when nobody noticed how bad the food was. Im hoping this was a rare miss.

Foods good. Not $15 for just a burger good though. Most of the menu you can find at any decent food truck. Honestly cant see this place being around for too long. Edit: Im replying to the side hustles response to my review. I understand the economy and how terrible it is right now. However, there are plenty of spots that seem to find a way to charge a reasonable price for a good quality meal. Perhaps if your burger came with a side the price wouldnt be so absurd. But as it is, the burger isnt anything special, certainly not worth the $15.

Seemed a tad overpriced for the food. Some of the food was good, other dishes not so much.

Being a chef, everybody always asked me where is your favourite restaurant? The answer is always Side Hustle. I have never had a bad experience. This is one of the few restaurants I never have to add seasoning. The dishes are always well balanced and delicious.

Smashburger and fries are delicious. This smashburger is probably my second favorite in Halifax. Dartmouth comes in second after Bud the Spud.. pretty serious when it comes to smashburgers and these guys did a great job

Food is amazing. The smashie is a classic but you can t go wrong on this menu. Great service, well trained servers, and Amanda was exceptional!

Upscale bar food, one of the better places to eat in downtown dartmouth. Simplistic but fantastic smash burger - fried rice and other Asian fusion dishes were great too.

What a cute spot! Visiting Dartmouth from Halifax, I decided to stop here for a snack. Glad I did. The atmosphere was so welcoming, great long bar to sit at. I had the chicken sandwich which I would recommend and have again. I wasn t supper hungry so I can t wait to come back again when I am. Appys and Mains look so good

Visited Dartmouth for the first time and decided to have lunch here. Had the best Smashburger!!!!!! Im not a crazy burger person but this one was too good!!! We also ordered Garlic Fries on the side, those are a must try too!

I had been to Side Hustle before twice and had such a lovely experience. So I m not thrilled to write this. But feel the need to share as I am concerned about what happened to me. I popped into eat some lunch during burger week, and they only had a burger week menu. Really nothing else on it. Which as a small place I guess is expected. I was about to head out, and the server recommended the Thai chilli chicken, and I said I can t eat really spicy food. I then asked if the gluten free Thai chilli chicken could be made less spicy as it was the ONLY thing on the menu that wasn t beef, or tofu that could be made gluten free. The server said yes - the kitchen could not add the spicy chili jam to the burger. And I was like great I ll have that. The burger came out, everything looked good. 3 bites in and I can barely breathe. They included the spicy chili jam, and as someone who can t do super spicy items I nearly choked in the restaurant. It was quite embarrassing actually, I was coughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face. Made worse by how echoey the bar is itself. The server finally came by after I was coughing for several minutes and I told him there is spicy chili jam on this. He says he will get them to remake it. I had gotten nauseous from coughing so hard I don t even want to eat more of the food that isn t spicy (aka the fries I paid extra for) So I just say no, thanks. You can take it. I had only eaten a handful of fries and a couple bites of the burger. It was pretty bad, I was pretty embarrassed. And I wasn t even finished my cider before the bill was handed to me. They charged me for 50% of the meal, burger and fries even though I didn t eat most of it. I likely should have said something to the server however I was already embarrassed from coughing so loudly. I likely will take a second thought before heading back as everything is expensive now, and I d like to eat what I pay for.

I have been dying to get here and this morning I finally did. It did not disappoint! I had the hot chicken and it was incredible. The presentation was immaculate, the taste was incredible and it was prepared quickly. I will be back!

This place was recommended to me by a few people had the Smashy, which is a double patty, double cheeseburger sauce and pickles. This thing was amazing. Wasn t the biggest burger I ve ever had, but it was so so good followed that up with the Mac fries. These things were incredible. this place is great,good atmosphere s great service. We had the the cauliflower, dumplings, burger and Brussel sprouts. Every thing had the best flavour, cooked to perfection and great presentation!

My partner and I got the cauliflower, brussels sprouts, smash burger and dumplings and literally everything we got was 10/10 delicious. Service was great too. One of my fav places around Dartmouth and Halifax. Highly recommend

Great spot! We went here for Burger Bash and it was delicious! We had the Spicy Fried Chicken Noodle Burger and the Smashie. Both were so good! Lots of gluten-free and vegan options! Great, fast, friendly service and really comfortable, clean, and nice decor inside. Highly recommend!

I went for their Burger Bash Burger:Spicy Chicken Noodle. Tasted great but I went on a Saturday night and it was very busy and loud. I sat at the bar and ordered a non alcoholic drink, The Queen of Hearts. I got the Burger, rosehip Hibiscus Kombucha and the chocolate chunk salted cookie. Its less busy if you go in the afternoon.

The food was so yummy. Great portion size and you can tell they really care about the quality of the food. Lots of vegan, vegetarian options and gluten free. Finally the service was beyond great. Super friendly and helpful!

They make the most amazing gluten free chicken sandwich in the world. No one would know it s gluten free. I even eat the pickles on it and I don t like pickles but their food is amazing. I go here anytime I m in Halifax. You can eat in or get takeout. The garlic fries are super yummy too and the side salad is so fresh and delicious.

Bucatini for pick up was bland. 0/5. 2 orders of bucatini - similar findings- zero taste. We got it when they first opened and it was actually bomb. Looks like it s been watered down.

Honestly, the food quality has significantly and consistently gone down. The Bucatini has always been my go to from here, the pic to the right is what they used to make (was really good), and the pic to the left is what they ve recently been presenting, a really bland pasta that was once delicious. Would not recommend for take out.

The establishment is designed very well and the experience was 10/10. Great service, ambiance, food and beverages (the mimosas were spot on). The menu is simple, yet it covers all bases. I really appreciated not having to comb through a hundred options to find something I didn t have to amend. Kid friendly which is a bonus :) Kid-friendliness: They had no problem whipping up a side plate to satisfy my friend s niece.

Side Hustle has a cool industrial vibe but suffers from a few predicaments: - Room is pretty loud due to high ceilings and reflective surfaces. I went with a group of 3 at a medium-busy time and we were almost yelling to hear each other. - Service was slow. As an ex-bartender I empathize because theres often stuff going on that guests cant see. But we were sat for almost 20 minutes and hadnt even put drinks in. Thats no bueno. - $15 before tax and tip for a burger. Fries are an extra $5. Im sorry but no. I cant rate the food because we ended up leaving. Im glad others have had better experiences but it wont be a repeat for us.

Amazing burgers and fries. Mac fries are a must try due to them tasting exactly like a Big Mac. Their garlic fries are amazing as well. Burger is not too big or small, just the right size. Best Burgers in town, my only negative comment would be the service was slow.

Years ago when this was another business I worked here and I had the opportunity to join 12 friends this weekend for a lunch and a gathering and we had such a wonderful time our food was amazing our servers were amazand the app is fear was wonwe will definitely be back.

Not a lot of options on menu. Staff was friendly but she seemed in a rush when dealing with us even though we were the only customers. I was served with a chipped glass for my drink. The single food items on the menu did not seem to match the amount being charged. On top of that we spent our time freezing, my spouse had to put a jacket on and we were no where near an outside door. I dont know if it was the time of day we went, but I honestly would not consider going back.

Finally got to Side Hustle. Busy Friday. Kind of felt like they waited to feed us to up the bar bill. Had to ask why it took almost an hour for food to arrive. Got a we re busy answer. On a Friday. Service was mediocre. As was the food. Too pricey for what we got. Really not worth the wait.

We enjoyed stopping here for a drink while visiting. Found the place a little echoey.

Side Hustle did an amazing job for me and 13 friends for my birthday celebration. The menu is varied and the food absolutely delish! Our server, Natasha, was super attentive and made the evening exceptional!

Get the cauliflower! Great little spot for a drink and snacks. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. Had the pop bottle rocket and it was fantastic. Cauliflower was the biggest hit but the dumplings, and popcorn chicken were also well received.

The cauliflower bites are a must try. I have them every single time I visit there. Great service and staff.

This was my first time eating at this restaurant. My mom, friend and I really enjoyed our meals! I got the spicy noodles, and it was very yummy. Our waitress told us it was popular and I know why now. It was spicy as I was eating it, but it did not leave any heat after I was done. The perfect level of heat. The waitress was lovely. Very friendly and answered our questions with ease. I will definitely be eating at Side Hustle again!

Heard some buzz, stopped in a few weeks ago for a smash burger date, I enjoyed my meal along with a delicious app of cauliflower gochujang which was absolutely delicious. I can t wait to have it again. my husband said the burger was good but not a real smash burger with the char taste. We gave it another chance for brunch last weekend and well it was delicious!!! I had the vegan huevos rancheros, the jackfruit was perfectly flavoured, daughter had the cinnamon French toast which was one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth and my husband had the huevos carnitas, at first, plate size seems small but is actually perfect, we were all full but not gross full and that is good!! Left thinking of who we can bring with us on our next visit. Nice decor but it seems it doesn t match the vibe and menu which is more edgy and grunge. decor is more zen spa.

The fishwich and fries were decent, but the salad wasn t great. Small and soaked in dressing so it was soggy by the time I got it home to eat it. This place has been upgraded substantially since my last visit when they were located in North Brewing. The Smash burger was very tasty and their fries are excellent. Only thing that was kind of weird was the inability of staff to tell me whether or not brunch was decent and what the hours for brunch were. They were pleasant but seemed very unaware of anything to do with the brunch and had no plans to find out. Otherwise, a beautiful spot with some great food and I would imagine we will be back.

Its composition is stripped to the basics but taste wise, it is very good. Would recommend. Im definitely interested in coming back and trying more! Tried here on a Friday after work in October and sat at the bar with a friend. It wasnt busy at that point, with maybe a dozen people in total. When you walk in the door, theres some casual seating in the corner with a couple of small couches and tables, probably a dozen seats at the bar, and then some long communal tables for the majority to sit. Simple, modern atmosphere like most of the tap room-restaurants these days. Very friendly staff, some of which came from the Agricola Brasserie. A bunch of their beers on tap on the wall. I am a wine drinker though so had a few glasses of their sauvignon blanc. To eat, we split the Ribs ($15 Kansas City pork side ribs, cornbread, jalapeno honey butter, grilled corn salad). I loved it and it would be enough for 1 as a whole meal, but made a good snack when split. Two long individual ribs, not served in the normal rack style. Very good sauce, cooked well. The cornbread was fresh and moist, much better than average. The corn salad also delicious. I will be back! 2nd visit: Dec 2023 11am Sunday brunch: New location on Portland Street, downtown Dartmouth that has been open I would guess over a year now? I couldnt find street parking so paid $2 for an hour in a private lot a block up the street. Walked in and there may have been three or four tables taken, or maybe 20% full, five minutes after opening. I took a seat at the four-seater table closest to the door, which is half bench. Big, simple atmosphere with a lot of plants. Quick service to take my order and the food came quite fast, so K was out of there in exactly 30 mons. The Chili Oil Fried Eggs is excellent. Garlic yogurt with two sunny side eggs, miso chili oil, fresh dill, Birdies sourdough. ($18). The oil gave this dish some heat. A perfect portion where I left satisfied but not dying full. The dill springs made this look like such a festive dish, reminding me of Christmas tree branches. .luckily not tasting like them. LOL Ill be back.

Excellent food, friendly staff, and a neat atmosphere. I rated staff 4/5 only because our first waitress was new and kept leaving when we were trying to order. That was rectified later. The atmosphere is very nice during the day, bright, lots of plants, etc. But at night it is incredibly loud to the point you cannot have a conversation with the person next to you without yelling (which makes it worse for everyone). This may be the vibe they are going for, but its not for us. We will stick to lunchtime visits or ordering. Food tho was super yummy!!

This place is a complete win for downtown Dartmouth. The smashie burger is seriously an epic little flavour bomb for a measly $12.00. The bahn mi fries were amazing. We live in the neighbourhood and something tells me were going to be here once a week, at least! Also, its a very well designed and stylish little spot. Well done, Side Hustle!

Love the drinks. I always get the chicken sandwich, the dumplings are also amazing. My one qualm is that the mains do not come with a side, and they re about $16 each. Its a good burger, but i ve never seen a $20 burger and fries at any restaurant in my life.

Tonight when I called to place a take out order, I was told the dining room was full so it would be a while for a take out order. Fair enough! When asked if they could give a time I was told Im at the bar, I would have to go ask the kitchen so ... Congratulations on being so busy you forget to be polite.

Same menu as 2 years ago,not busy yet half of order was brought out and they realized there was more so took it back.we waited another 15 min and then both came.one dish was quite cool inside but wouldnt reheat ,would need to start over from scratch the server said and they had recooked the order already to come out with dumplings. Somehow it is ok to cook the meal 3 times and toss 2 instead of reheating?$16 for 5 small dumplings $40 + tip for 5 small dumplings and 2 drinks.very confusing experience

We just had an awesome meal at Side Hustle. All the dishes were delicious and the staff was super friendly and helpful! We especially enjoyed the ceviche, dumplings, chicken wings and the smashie. I tried their Asian foods. The wings with fish sauce caramel, chilies, mint was tasty and refreshing. Fish sauce caramel sounds weird and tastes like it sounds in a good way. Yes there is a good way. Hustle fried rice came with a fried egg on top like a Korean rice bowl. I added the caramel pork belly which was sublime. An excellent dish of you dont mind sweet.

We came during Buskers and the service was awesome and the food so delicious! We had a second serving of the Dumplings! Will recommend and definitely come back again!

This was our best serendipitous restaurant during a 4-day June 2022 trip to Greater Halifax. We very much enjoyed our Buddha Bowl with egg, crispy chicken and vegetables and we split a bottle of house white wine. The food was wonderfully seasoned and proved to be plenty in one order for the two of us to share. The energy in the restaurant was great, and the service kind and attentive. As my partner said, This was not a destination restaurant, but a lucky find that met all our needs. Highly recommended.

Ive been so excited to check out their new location since falling in love with the Cauliflower dish last summer and it did not disappoint. I love the focus on having a local menu and not only is the food delicious but its a great value as well. The Mac Fries are a must, trust me! The decor is also very cool and welcoming, it is a great space to go as a date or with friends. Looking forward to going back again soon!

Oh my GOODNESS!! Best food in Dartmouth, everything is SO good!!!!!!! I take everybody that visits me here and even if theyre only here for a weekend they are sure to squeeze in a second meal before leaving because its too dang good and will leave you wanting more

Awesome time here, cant say enough about the quality of the food and the interesting options. Do yourself a favour and try the dumplings, they are amazing. Not the biggest on-tap selection, but a good spread of cocktails, wine and beer available. The service was a bit slow, seemed like they may have been understaffed on the day of our visit. Still, the servers that were there were very personable and pleasant. Vegetarian options: Their menu is coded to state which items have veg options and vegan options, very easy to understand and tons of choices for all diets.

I absolutely love this place!! I went once from a recommendation of a friend and I have been back several times and always go on about this place to anyone who asks where they should eat. Everything is absolutely delicious. The menu is small but Everything I have tried has been 10/10. Lovely service as well. So happy to have this spot on Portland

The garlic cheese fries have consumed my thoughts!! They are exactly what all potato seedlings dream of becoming!! You may have ruined other fries for me but Im not complaining! And the cauliflower....outstanding!! The fried rice we took home fed us for three days!! I have not stopped raving about Side Hustle to like every single person I talked to!! I wish I lived closer but at the same time am grateful I dont because I would eat those garlic cheese fries at least twice a day every day!!

Cocktails and food were decent. I had the fish tacos and garlic fries. I found them extremely overpriced. I could get the same or better for less elsewhere.

I recently ordered the cauliflower dish. I have a few suggestions for improvement. I would recommend that much less sauce be added to the dish. The sauce was extremely sweet and there was way too much of it. Secondly, I would suggest breading the cauliflower with something more light. The smaller pieces of cauliflower were over powered by the large amount of breading. It gave the sensation that I was eating just deep fried batter.

Interesting dishes that emphasize taste. Had the cevichy and it was delicious. A bit pricey and noisy inside.

Pretty nice place. Lots of GF menu options which was great. I had something called Mac fries which is kind of the insides of a big Mac dumped on top of fries. Pretty tasty.

Fun place! Good beer, good food. Service staff is what made it stand out. Our server was Jess and she was spectacular. She joked with us and treated us very well while staying on top of our drinks and dishes. I would visit again but it probably wouldnt be my main go-to spot. It was packed which is nice as it gives a welcoming vibe - but the acoustics were a bit poor to accommodate that many guests. It was too loud for easy conversation but the layout was definitely individual tables, not a standing or social scene. As such, the volume felt contrary to the clientele needs. I forgot to take photos! Sorry all. Next time. Parking: Paid parking behind the building but street parking was hard to find.

The crunch wrap was super tasty and the service was great. Highly reccomend. Such a cozy personal vibe.

Had a great first experience at Side Hustle last week! Great venue, busy but not crowded. Sat at the bar and had a tasty green cocktail and got the Hustle Fried Rice, which was filling and so delicious! Sweet and savoury, sticky, salty and crunchy. A great combo of flavours and textures on the palette. Will be back!

LOVED this spot! Menu is packed with flavor and doesnt disappoint! I highly recommend the cauliflower. They take a boring vegetable and transform it into something magical (pictured). Great atmosphere too!

One of my favourite places to eat right now. They have a small rotating menu of nothing but hits. Their smash burger s maybe the best in HRM, and they have decent competition around here. Their vegetarian and vegan options are great too. I see a lot of families there with kids.

The best smash burger I have ever had! I am avid traveller and have has smash burgers all around the world, and this is THE BEST. All versions of the loaded fries, INCREDIBLE. Staff- PHENOMENAL. We book flights from Ontario 4 times a year to come here. I cannot recommend Side Hustle more! Amazing options for Gluten Free folks as well. Dietary restrictions: Great Care with Gluten Free items.

Side Hustle was great! Their limited menu packed lots of flavour, the Brussel sprouts and dumplings paired very well together with their Asian inspired flavors. We went midday, so the room was still quite bright with the skylights overhead, excited to see the evening ambience. Our server was excellent, he offered great pairing advice and was a delight to chat with.

The new space is amazing, the smashie never disappoints. They also make some nice cocktails.

Everything always tastes great, service is quick and friendly. Only issue I ve found is last 2 times we ve ate there, they ve ran out of some items, which can be frustrating given it s such a small menu.

I want to shout from the roof tops how amazing this place is. The food is outstanding. Seriously the best burger ever. The menu is constantly changing and everything, I mean EVERYTHING we ve eaten blows your socks off. On top of that they have a beer for every kind of beer drinker. Now I m a craft beer fan but not everyone is, rest assured there is even a beer for you if you don t like craft beer. From light and easy sipping to a dark and rich. Try me on this place folks!

Beer was good. Food was good. My only problem was the smell. It smelled like wet dog. I was told by my friends that its the hops in the brewery itself. But holy it was bothersome to my nose.

I love Side Hustle, its just a great restaurant. All the food is amazing and the service is the best. Our last order had a mistake in it and they were very apologetic and quick to fix the problem. I will keep going back again and again (especially as long as the garlic cheese fries are on the menu!)

Side Hustle Snack Bar is located within North Brewing Company. There are plenty of parking available out front. I ordered The Smashie and the Garlic Cheese Fries. The cheese from the burger was a bit overwhelming and the burger itself reminded me of the Big Mac. Overall, good food and atmosphere. There are also drinks on tap, so its a nice spot for a hang out or a date.

First time earing at this resto and I was beyond impressed. Service was great and the food exceeded our expectations. We had the banh mi fries. Chicken burger, the smashee. The fish tacos ans the green beans to share. Every dish was jam packed with flavour. Highly recommend this resto if your looking for great service, vibes and food!

Decided to treat the family to the coconut fried chicken burger during Burger Week. $16 for just the burger seemed very steep but it was late and everyone was hungry - we were hoping it was worth it! I know Burger Week is intense and maybe that s why the ingredients didn t taste fresh but it was a disappointment for 3/4 people. One bun was so wet it wasn t edible. However the chicken was crispy and the fries were extra delicious. Wasn t the bang for our buck we were hoping for but would return for the fries.

The food is good but way, way over priced. Its not worth the cost
