Wood fired restaurant and cocktail bar with rooftop patio. . . . Join us for a bite or a bevvy. We’ll keep the fire going.
With a party of four dining at Sip on Dec 13, 2024. We were seated on the main level, relatively close to the fire. The food was pretty delicious. Everything else was atrocious. Overall, I can’t fault the food. A little expensive for the serving size perhaps, but tasty and properly done. Every drink from the bar took a minimum of 40 minutes. 40. Beyond unacceptable. We ordered drinks before our mains arrived and the mains were finished and 20 minutes passed before the drinks showed up. Just terrible. To be as complimentary as possible given the service, I would have to say that the server was perhaps just braindead. Useless. I would have preferred to be given a number and told to go to a counter to pick up when the number was called. The atmosphere was lovely enough, apart from the temperature. Most guests on the main floor were forced to dine with their winter jackets on because of the poor design. Overall, simply put, don’t waste your money.
Had an amazing, relaxing time with incredible food and perfect cocktails. The staff made us feel welcome, like we were regulars, and the service was super attentive and friendly. The whole experience was very cool, and I’m already looking forward to going back!
One of the best dinners we’ve had this year! Wish we tried this spot sooner. Every aspect was enjoyable—elegant decor (upstairs), attentive service (our server was amazing), and the impeccable food and cocktails! Everything we ordered was perfection. Highly recommend the charcuterie board, the most perfect (brioche-like?) bread, and that incredible steak.
I had a lovely experience! Atmosphere is hip and the place is stunning. Customer service was top notch. I ordered the bread and the prawns. Both dishes had a lovely smoke flavour to them. The prawns were bursting with flavour and cooked perfectly. The bread was soft and the oil and vinegar dip was so good. I tried several drinks and loved them all. I can’t wait to go back! I had such a great experience.
Well hello there, @sip_dartmouth what a magical surprise last night. We headed out late with friends to find a dinner spot and lucked into a patio table with the best service 💕 The menu was small (always a good sign!) and we attempted as much of it as we could (some of us reordered the 🥕carrots 🥕 for dessert!) The story of where and when the halibut was caught, about the farmers that grew the mushrooms, and the fact the dishes were customs made for them down the street all added to this magical experience. Friends, check this delight out. Next time I’m looking for a treat, you’ll find me snuggled in their sofa with a dish of lavender olive oil cake and a cocktail 🍸 10/10 @downtowndartmouth has it all!
The food was bland and lacked flavor, making for a disappointing meal for the price that was paid. The bread, however, was excellent soft and fresh, standing out as the best part of the experience. Parking can be difficult in the busy downtown area, adding to the challenges of dining here. As a new establishment, Sip Bar + Fare has potential, but it needs to work on improving its food to attract more customers.
This place is very unique and cool. The atmosphere was amazing and the cocktails were delicious. They have two levels allowing for lots of guests at once. The service was excellent, they took great care of us and were very attentive. The food was styled and presented really nice, but taste was average. I will say they had far more vegetarian options than I anticipated which was a nice touch! Charred carrots are worth the try! Overall, a great new and exciting place to visit in downtown Dartmouth!
We managed to get back there. Food was amazing. Great vibe. Place smells amazing when the kitchen is cranking. We came out smelling like we were at the best BBQ. Spendy caveat still applies. ---previously--- Just stopped in for a cocktail at the bar. Going to go back for food (some special occasion since it's a little spendy). Really nice.
This is for the GM. Staff appropriately. Or don t open your restaurant for business. And do something about the entrance. 1/2 the main floor dined in their winter coats. Did you even notice? Waiting 40 minutes for a round of drinks is appalling. Empty water glasses. Staff were clearly stressed and serving paying customers did not seem to be a priority. It s a shame, because the food was very good.
Highly recommend; great food, cocktails, service and atmosphere
Gorgeous spot! We loved the wine recommendation! Could skip on the moss though lol! Interesting!!
Really great experience at this spot in downtown Dartmouth. Went for date night and we had the bread, carrots, prawns, and rainbow trout, all very much shareable. Food and atmosphere were great, service was exceptional, shout out to my man Luis for a wonderful evening!
Parking: It s a bit hard to find parking.. but if you want, you will able to find some payed garage nearby Food
The food was great when we went, and it is a cool vibe. We were sat upstairs and loved the decor too. Our server was very friendly as well. Cocktails were tasty.
The staff at Sip were great and very accommodating, which I really appreciated. However, the food was a bit too pricey and salty for my taste. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won t be coming back.
We stopped by for a birthday drink and, got a birthday surprise as well, just the atmosphere and drinks was FANTASTIC. Our server was really sweet ( forgot to get her name) we will be back definitely to try the menu.
Love this spot, its a hidden gem for Dartmouth, service is great food is amazing and the style of the place is wonderful
Amazing atmosphere and friendly staff. Drinks and food are as good as it gets. Worth the visit. Food : 5/5
Awesome place for adults to come together . Wonderful and creative selection of cocktails and non-alcohol drinks. I had the strawberry one and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. The steak was well cooked and you can choose a good size depending on how big your group is. The big fish was flavorful and tender. I highly recommend this place for everyone! Vegetarian options: They have a huge selection of vegetables and bread. Including a lot of appetizers likes cheese board and such. A lot of green in their menu and even if you are vegetarian, this place is highly recommended .
A great reason to head over to Dartmouth! Love the hidden away patio terrace with a cool breeze. It feels much more exclusive than some of the more touristy and pub places. Excellent, refreshing cocktails, highly recommend! Great food and service. I would go back for sure!
The food was delicious and service was really great ! I visited twice there .
Food and service excelent if a bit pricey but this is 2024
Has a really cool vibe with some of the best food Ive had in Halifax or Dartmouth
the best best best
Wow! We happened past Sip one our first day in downtown Dartmouth and decided to do dinner there Sunday. Everything was delicious! If you love smoked flavours, this is your place! Vegetarian options: Mushrooms, bitter greens, potatoes
Loved it. Ate the picanha steak, bitter greens salad, carrots and beef tartare. Great spot for a date night.
Just everything was perfect! The cocktails, the wine selection and mocktails were all delightful and the food was absolutely amazing!
While we had a great time with friends here are a few observations: The margaritas were excellent, potatoes and carrots delicious and steak very nicely done. Service was excellent. Dessert was very good too. My biggest concern was the smoke from the fire/grill. When we got home we both smelled like we d been sitting by a campfire all night. It s just too much for a small space and I m sure they re looking for a solution. A return visit would definitely have us choosing the upper level which had a lovely vibe and will be great when the deck opens for the summer season!
This is my first review of ANYTHING on social media. I ve eaten at great restaurants all over this planet, and I was shocked at the quality and taste of the food at Sip! Food cooked on an open wood fired flame is beyond delicious. Chef Malcom is a culinary genius. The charcuterie board was the best I ve had, and the South American inspired steak was one of the best steaks I ve had anywhere - including the Wagu ones. Best value of any restaurant in this Solar System! (And perhaps best of all? Right here in Dartmouth NS.
We only went for cocktails before dinner. Didn t make a fuss and sat at the bar and we really enjoyed the pleasantries with the mixologist. The cocktails were boozy and had amazing taste. I will definitely go back.
Had a wonderful dinner with great service. The food was cooked to perfection on the open fire. The restaurant was busy but you still could have a conversation at the table no loud music playing. The servers made great vine and food recommendations and made our evening very special. Thanks
The service is great and the food is amazing, will be back again.
My partner and I went for Valentines and this new restaurant did not disappoint!! Mike, behind the bar, concocted us the most delicious drinks after asking just a few questions about what flavours we enjoy. He nailed the flavours and the food tasted as good as it looked!! We would give our experience 10 s if we could!
Best bone marrow Ive ever had! The bitter greens salad was absolutely delicious! Food
We come here often and usually get a mixture of the bread, beef tartar, potatos, carrots, steak, and chicken. All amazing. Upstairs is more date night/romantic vibes. Downstairs is open concept/ cocktail vibes where you can watch the action in the kitchen. 10/10
Definitely will be back! Delicious food & and drinks are fantastic
The fact that Sip is open while staff from his previous business, Birch and Anchor are still owed thousands of dollars in unpaid wages and tips is absurd. Mike has given promise of timelines, all of which passed. The excuses have run dry. Pay your staff who earned wages and tip money months ago, that you spent!!
Food is pretty good but ownership needs a heavy dose of integrity and pay its former staff from the recently shut down Birch & Anchor all their money owed to them. If you have the funding to open up another business, you certainly can pay final pay cheques to staff that worked hard to earn it. Terrible business practice. Wheelchair accessibility: No issues
Wow, just WOW. A Casual-semi fine dine experience of pure quality. From the moment you enter, SIP is a total sensory delight. The tasteful, elegant yet relaxing decor, the soft lighting, smokey delicious smells of the cooking hearth, refreshing and masterfully created cocktails or varied wines and relaxing music. But above all, uniqely prepared, absolutely delicious food, all cooked on an open wood fire . Every aspect and detail has been carefully designed to seduce your senses. The tapas shareable style menu allows you to combine several dishes to enjoy a range of flavours. Do try the amazing aged beef and the Austrailian Waygu they are simply devine. The prawns and romesco sauce, scallop crudo, potatos and vegetables all compliment each other. Delicious together or each dish on their own, provide a full mouth watering experience. Every dish has been carefully and freshly prepared. The bread, oh that bread, must have more of that!!! These guys have it right. They pamper you from entry to exit. You are first greeted by friendly hostess and servers. The Chefs tableside explanation of the evenings aged meat offerings, gives you an appreciation of the cuts of meat offered and the knowledge and care taken in providing quality ingredients. The trained Somolier offers a varied assortment of wines to choose from and also his knowledge and suggestions on choosing a perfect wine pairing for your dinner selection. This new addition to the Dartmouth culinary scene is a sure must try. Its perfect for that special occasion (as we did), date night, couples night out or girls night. Whether you want cocktails and appetizers or a full dinner, this is a great place. Thanks to all the cooks, servers and bartenders, our group had a fantastic experience. We will be back, and often.
Wonderful dining experience! Great service and great food prepared by Chef Jeff and his team. Highly recommend! Parking is street only, though. So, allow sufficient time to find a space. Or, cab and/or walk up from the ferry.
What a delightful and wonderful experience! Such attention to details on all fronts. From the open style concept showcasing what goes on in front of the hearth, the dimmed lights creating a soft ambience, the beautiful local pottery, what a stunning sensory experience. The moktails were creative and lively. And the food, oh my. Such incredible dishes, my mouth waters thinking about it. I now have a soft spot for the bitter greens salad and carrots. Turning local ingredients, into flavourful creative dishes. Long live Sip Bar + Fare!
Best dining experience in Dartmouth. We were lucky enough to sit in front of the kitchen and watch the magic happen. Staff is calm and professional on a very busy night. Food was perfection coming off the log fire and tasted devine. Cool atmosphere, friendly, knowledgeable servers and amazing menu to fit the concept. I ll be back again and again!
Sip is a fantastic spot, certainly on the fancier end of the dining spectrum but absolutely worth it. We loved the Wagyu and the carrots, and also enjoyed the scallop crudo and beef tartare. The cocktails we ordered were very good and the wine list is impressive. The service was excellent; the sommelier hustled to make sure the wine we ordered arrived with our beef. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really great, but if I have one complaint about the spot it s that there are a few tables for two that are placed in a glorified hallway. Despite making a reservation well in advance we were seated there and it did take away from our ability to enjoy the vibe and it felt like a bummer considering how expensive the dinner was.
Well I wish I could say this place was great but to be honest, it was very very bad. The seaside martini tasted like salt water and alcohol (oyster was yummy), my out of office was not bad but nothing mind blowing. We ordered the bread with yeasted honey butter, bitter greens, scallop crisp, beef tartare and bone marrow. Bread was very soft with a yeasty butter that lacked any bit of honey. The bread itself was very light, like a salty cake, which wasn t what I expected for a brioche. 4/5 Bone marrow: I haven t had a lot of experience with bone marrow to be honest but the overall taste was wet rags, it tasted and smelled like wet rags. I ve thrown away raw beef that smelled the exact way because it was rotten. There is no way in hell that s what bone marrow should taste like. My boyfriend who is less picky also didn t like it but helped finished it. Unless you like rotten meat flavors, DONT GET THE BEEF MARROW. -5/5 Scallop crude was really good. Fresh high quality scallops in a delicate sauce, was very saucy. Had one chip that was basically complete salt but everything else was great 5/5 Beef tartare: the beef also tasted fresh and high quality BUT it was overly salty again. Edible in morsels. Chutney was fun. 4/5 needs less salt Bitter greens: again fresh high quality ingredients but SO salty. Could not finish at all. 1/5 Im sorry but I would not come again. Servers were very nice, did arrived late (so sorry) and still gave us a high top for 4 (Saturday night) Maybe after a year or two when the chefs get their salt under control I ll try again. But for now, there are plenty of places that offer great drinks and food. Forgot to add: decor is very cute and cozy (upstairs is more cozy) maybe it s a good place to get a glass of wine. I d rather grab a cocktail at dear friends
Best restaurant of the year. Weve tried a lot of award-winning restaurants in Halifax/Dartmouth, and Im confident theyll win one at some point since the food was fantastic, the service was excellent and the atmosphere is on point. Food
Awesome dining option in downtown Dartmouth. Great wine menu and amazing food. sommelier knew the wine very well and had great recommendations.
Had a bit of everything and was blown away
Sip, the brainchild of the Birch and Anchor maestros, is a culinary symphony. The Bitter Greens, oysters, and scallop crudo are like edible poetry each bite a stanza of flavor. And lets not forget the brioche bread, a carb masterpiece that demands a standing ovation. Sip: where every dish is a sip of perfection!
We walked by and saw Sip and decided to pop in. We were planning to head to another spot but saw a new place and had to try. We grabbed drinks and some snacks and were so impressed. The atmosphere was amazing. Service was phenomenal and so were our food and cocktails. Our server was very thorough and didn t miss a beat but we were checked on by multiple people in the restaurant. We can t wait to come back for a proper date night! I can t say enough good things!
