Terminal, Above Ferry, 40 Alderney Dr #305, Dartmouth, NS B2Y 2N5, Canada
We had our office Christmas lunch here. At first I was nervous when we found out we only had one server for 20 people, but he was amazing. Orders were promptly taken and delivered correctly. Somehow we were in and out in 2 hours. If anyone is going over the holidays, the winter sangria is super tasty. General note, the fish tacos are good, but the pork tacos are better.
Was beautiful on the patio even if we had to run under the awning as it started raining enough that our buns would get soggy. The lentil burger was to die for and the sweet potato chowder was delicious as well. However it did get cold fast so I didn’t finish it, was a lot of food regardless. Well worth it! Lamb burger & roasties were the bomb as well. Didn’t get a photo though. Our sever was amazing as well, although his name escapes me atm.
Fantastic view from the outdoor dining area. I really liked the haddock and the other people I was with liked their meal too. The place is right at the ferry terminal, so it's easy to get to. The waiter was right on top of things. I would definitely recommend this place..
What an absolute delight 🤩 I was on the hunt for a vegan donair and decided to try The Wooden Monkey. The setting is beautiful overlooking the water so you can watch the ferries go by while you eat. All the staff I encountered were so lovely and friendly. The vegan donair was utterly delicious, I've been craving it ever since! I also upgraded to a side salad and wow I was not expecting such a delicious salad as a side, highly recommend doing that. The lemonade was also really tasty and perfect for a hot summer's day. Highly recommend!
We had the most amazing dinner at the Wooden Monkey during our trip to Halifax! Hannah and the whole team there were friendly, welcoming, and so helpful as we looked through their menu. The onion dip was delicious and the scallop pasta was to die for!
Had dinner at the Wooden Monkey (Dartmouth). Nice big patio with views of the harbour. I had the lamb burger. It was good. He had fish cakes & the special which was Manhattan fish chowder. Fish cakes were good. The chowder was too spicy (& he likes spice) & tasted like spaghetti sauce, he couldn’t taste the fish. The server asked for feedback on the chowder as he only ate a bit of it. She was awesome. She offered to take it off the bill or a free dessert. We got cheesecake & when the bill came the chowder had been removed & the cheesecake (which was not as expensive) replaced it. Shout out to the excellent customer service! We will give it another try due to the way this was handled & the service in general. Oh, we both enjoyed the roasties (roasted potatoes instead of fries) & the cheesecake.
Great restaurant right on the waterfront In Dartmouth. OUR server was amazing. Gave great recommendations for drinks and mist haves on the menu. Food was good, but the dessert (maple Cinnamon Creme Brulee) was the highlight for us. We are still talking about 2 weeks after!
My boyfriend and I went here last night as we were good things about the restaurant. We wish we got a little more dressed up as it a nice place for a romantic dinner. but non the less the staff don’t look down on us for coming in jeans and a T shirt haha. Now the food wow! Amazing taste and flavour. The chief really outdid himself. The service was outstanding. We will be back and much rather support this local Business than a big chain restaurant. The prices were great for what you got as well and so much better tasting. If you’re wondering if you should spend your little extra money here on your date night. The answer is yes every time. I will be sharing this gem with all my friends and co workers! Wishing this Business and the staff all the best!
First-time customer. Very efficient, friendly staff, great views, the food was comparatively priced for the area and very good!
Always have a meal at The Wooden Monkey when we go to Dartmouth. Food is always Awesome! Had the Meat Lovers 12 pizza and added Donair meat it was A1...Great staff and service . Thanks so much Rebecca and Rodney!
My favourite place to eat in the Halifax area. Awesome food, including great veggie and vegan options. Amazing views. Great service. Food : 5/5 |
Ate here on Sunday night. A party of 6. My potato wedges were room temp. My club was good. Kale salad was great. Not sure if I would return & I live in the area. 1 other person from our group felt the same. Honestly hard to complain because it was a birthday dinner & didnt want to be that person . Was hoping it was 5 across the board
Always wondered about this place, they have a fantastic location, great view and nice interior, I sometimes wondered why I have never seen anyone come and go from there or heard anyone spoken about the place, then I ate there and the mystery was solved. This was the worst food I had been served in restaurant in recent memory, Im not even letting the fact that they had a sign out asking me to wait to be seated and after 15 minutes went inside and wen I finally found an employee they had no idea the sign existed influence my opinio (but I wonder how many people waited and waited and walked off) this places menu was extremely concerned with vegan and gluten free issues and they cant get the most basic element of any restaurant in the marines right. Fish and chips how do you screw that up right? Well you would brag about not using oil and then serving dry baked fish patties dry as the safaahaari and baked potato wedges, burned and somehow visibly spiced but thats just an illusion they haveno flavor beyond burned, it is a shame this beautiful location is wasted
Having Celiac and travelling is so hard. The Wooden Monkey has been perfect!!! Thank you
One of the best patio restaurants in Dartmouth!
Food and service were excellent! Fabulous view of the Halifax harbour too!
Went there for my birthday and was very happy I picked this place.
We attended a private function, held at the wooden monkey, and once again were disappointed with the taste and portion of the food. It was just average at best. We found it to be overpriced for what you were getting. Although the server was lovely, the food took over an hour to arrive. However, the atmosphere is beautiful.
Amazing place with terrific food quality and presentation- view of Halifax harbour is out of the world! Great vegetarian choices are a bonus
Excellent food and service. Would like to come back every time I visit Dartmouth. Very good vegetarian options. Highly recommend this place. Vegetarian options: Excellent salads, soup and lentil burgers!!!
The food was delicious, just it was very little and fairly costly. We ordered the cauliflower largest pizza, its not quite enough for 2 girls, and the Korean tofu in nappa cabbage. The ambiance was lovely.
Food (fish cakes) was dry and cold. They forgot our beet salad. Service was very slow. Will not be going back.
I had the scallop pasta and my dad had the lamb ravioli as well as the chocolate brownie and blueberry pie for dessert everything was homemade and absolutely delicious!! Hannah brought us blankets as we wanted to sit outside for our last supper in the maritimes and I wanted to be by the water. She was kind enough to take a few pictures of us as well.
Food was amazing. Sat outside with view of the Harbour. The blueberry pie still lives up to what Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones called amazing.
Wooden Monkey is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is fantastic and the staff are always efficient and kind! Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian options!
I tried to make a reservation on the patio due to having my dog with me, but was advised reservations can only be made for inside. When I showed up I was told that I d be seated in a few minutes . It took 50 minutes to get a table, and I didn t receive an update once while waiting. We ordered drinks and food as soon as we were seated, and it took another 50 minutes for the food to arrive. Four of our five dishes arrived cold. Some of the potato wedges were severely undercooked and hard. I was excited to give this place a try because it has got such a beautiful patio, but it was not an enjoyable experience.
Nasty absolutely unacceptable and disgusting.
Dietary restrictions: Extremely attentive to dietary restrictions. Lots of gluten free, and dairy free options Food
The food, service, and place are great! The food is very good and fresh. The service was excellent, and the staff gave great recommendations. The lamb burger was very tasty, and the chocolate brownie was delicious!
The food is tasty, the service is good and the place has a great view.
What a wonderful experience! There are a ton of vegan options on the menu, and a delicious vegan desert (the Tofu Pie). I really loved the vegan Donair. The sauce is amazing! Sitting on the deck with the downtown Halifax skyline in view was an awesome way to enjoy a satisfying vegan meal in Dartmouth! Dietary restrictions: Plenty of vegan options.
I always receive great service and delicious food at The Wooden Monkey in Dartmouth. They truly have something for everyone on their menu. And of course a great atmosphere and beautiful view. Dietary restrictions: The Wooden Monkey offers gluten free, dairy free, and vegan options. They also indicate on their menus if the dish contains soy, dairy, or nuts. I believe they are one of the best, if not the best, for those with food intolerances.
Love the view of the harbour you can get here also fantastic that you have some healthy options here. Huge plus having locally sourced ingredients for a lot of the dishes too. I have had some dishes here that were just okay but others that were incredible. Portion sizes due to higher quality ingredients are smaller than some other restaurants in the area. Great place though especially if you want to eat outside and enjoy the harbour view or want something healthier. Vegetarian options: Tons of options for vegans and vegetarians Dietary restrictions: They can accommodate any diet - Vegan, vegetarian, keto, gluten free
Stopped in here after taking the ferry across from Halifax. Had to go in to cool down and we were greeted with friendly service, ice cold beer and delicious seafood cakes.
The food speaks for itself, just superb. Everything was better than great. Service was lovely, Hannah was just the sweetest, and the bartender, Josh, nailed the margaritas. Food
Very disappointed with the quality of the foods. Pizza brought with frozen bread and not melted properly. The bread was not eatable at all.
Best salad ever. Order the beat salad! I don t even like beets!
The strawberry daiquiri from the spring cocktail menu is deeeeeelicious. Hands down one of the best fish tacos ive had in halifax.
I had the most amazing lunch at Wooden Monkey today. Once again, proving why it remains my favourite restaurant in the city. We were greeted promptly, food was quick and delicious. Impeccable service by Kyle. Not to mention the gorgeous patio they have
We had a reservation and it wasn t a busy night. Initially staff was very attentive and then it seems we were forgotten. Appetizers were delivered and they were not even warm. Waiter came back to advise there was no mash potatoes available for the order, substitute was ordered and fresh drinks. A while passed, drinks were empty, glass was cleared and a good 10 minutes passed since glasses were cleared and entrees showed up. Waiter acknowledged that drinks were forgotten and he ordered refills. The special was chicken leg and thigh with risotto and fiddle heads. The risotto was nothing more than over cooked rice. Appreciate the honesty of missing the drinks but for the price I expect better service and food to be frank.
Second time there for business meetings and so accommodating
While the atmosphere/view here is pretty great and service was friendly, the food was quite sad (especially for the price). The vegan donair had maybe three tiny pieces of tomato, stale thin pita and was shockingly small for $20 (potatoes were good). It felt like a dismal wrap youd get at a rural gas station. Others orders seemed very mediocre at best (unimpressive fish breading; soggy, soft bacon wrapping the scallops; flavourless soup with dry foccacia). Not recommended.
The wooden monkey offers a great view of the halifax harbor. We were seated quickly and their menu has a variety of pub-fare, appetizers and mains including plenty of vegetarian/vegan options. I had the lamb ravioli, it did not dissapoint. Only issue is parking, we couldnt find any street parking nearby so had to walk a few blocks.
The waiter at the dartmouth side is great. Very sweet and quick with everything yet also doesnt pester or hover. The lentil burger and the fresh mushroom soup and the beat salad were amazing. Portion for price were... somewhat average. Not very very filling but definitely unique flavours. The view at the dartmouth side is definitely worth it. Will go back for sure
Well. The food was divine. The view spectacular Plan to stop by again Food : 5/5
Tried take out (with delivery) expecting to be disappopinted... Best meal I have had in ages. Beet Salad and bacon wrapped scallops for starters, shared the lamb ravioli which was insired (my husband licked both bowls!) followed by the braised beef with mashed potatoes and vegetables - everything cooked to perfection, finished with two chocolate desserts -- tofu choc pie and flourless brownie.... just spectacular.
Quite a decent restaurant. Has seats with a great view of the harbour, espeically on the deck. Good food and good servce, although not especially adventurous.
Always love going here for special occasions. Food is all organic and very flavorful. Waitstaff is top notch. Vegetarian options: Very health conscious, not a lot of protein (meat/seafood) choices, but what there is is delicious. Dietary restrictions: Can get gluten free. Fresh baked. Amazing. Parking: Its a paid parking lot during the day, until 6:00 pm Wheelchair accessibility: Ramps to get into building. Elevator to restaurant. Lots of space between tables.
Had the salmon, was great!
We came by for supper on a Monday night. Fabulous food, service (great job Adam). We had a variety of food and drinks from the menu. I ordered the lobster pasta special. Very good! We will definitely stop by again when we visit from Alberta.
Monkey pita 10/10
A comfortable and cozy, but not crowded atmosphere makes for a great meal with conversations without yelling like big chain restaurants. The food is very good with many vegan options and is presented very well. The service was great, with frequent check-ins from staff without being overly intrusive. Overall a great dining experience, highly recommended.
I very much enjoy going into this restaurant. The food is creative and delicious and the service is very friendly. However, my first time experience ordering through door dash was absolutely disgraceful for the amount of money we paid. Bought a seitan donair and there was 5 BURNT potato wedges and the donair was not completely cooked, cold and had a couple tomato pieces and 2 onion pieces. There was no quality or care put into this especially for the cost. However, learned they did provide a refund for the donair, very much appreciated thank you! Still disappointed about delivery and will not order delivery here again! I will go in house!
Tasty food, excellent customer service and awesome place. I like the harbour view of Halifax and always enjoy watching the Ferry trips.
Staff was friendly but food was horrible.
good
Michael the waiter was extremely helpful in accommodating us to ensuring that our son was able to find allergy friendly options that did not contain nuts or dairy.
Excellent Staff Awesome Location Great Food...
Excellent location, good food and lovely staff, definitely recommended!! Ps: the music is the cherry on the cake ;)
Jerk chicken risotto with apple chutney was amazing. Asia and Nu Groove raised the roof. Had an amazing experience. Can t wait for the next show.
Why call it a club when it s a Turkey burger. Also served so pipping hot it burns your mouth. Turkey has no business being served that hot and over done.
My friends & I went for a New Year s Eve dinner. Beyond my expectations. Our Waiter was keen to ask if anyone had allergies or sensitivities (which was awesome cause one of us was) the Beef tenderloin was SO TENDER. Their must be due to it being grass fed & local. The music was not so loud we had to raise our voices. And the view was spectacular.
Overall incredible experience here! My partner treated me to a birthday dinner here and it did not disappoint. The bruschetta is out of this world! Highly recommend
Went to help somebody in the city. Dine lunch time and the ambient and service was great. Oh, great food too. Will be back. Dietary restrictions: Its been asked by the server.
Ordered takeout supper from here the other night. They forgot to prepare one of our meals, we only ordered 2 dishes. Never actually got it cause it would have taken another 45min to prepare. They blamed it on getting a couple other orders at the same time. The one meal we did get, a burger, had an odd fishy taste to it. Ended up throwing it out. Not worth the money. Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free
honestly pretty gross and cheap... beet salad is just pickled beets ground up, $15 for about $3 of ingredients from a grocery store, assembled with zero skill.
Our penne with scallops and curried basmati rice with tofu were delicious and perfect in every way! Our dessert, the raspberry mousse, wrapped in white chocolate was out of this world! Our waiter was helpful, accurate, timely, friendly, and funny. The food arrived within 10 minutes and our view of the ferry made it extra nice! Can t wait to return!
Awesome experience at this restaurant. Very accessible, beautiful view of the harbor and the service was amazing. The nachos were delicious with fresh veggies and stretchy cheese. The braised beef was delicious and so tender. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone, especially caters to gluten and dairy free diets. Cant say enough about this great experience.
My partner and I stopped in on Sunday afternoon on the weekend of the ice sculpture event. We had heard lots about the Wooden Monkey but had never been. We were only wanting a beverage. We walked in the door, about to seat ourselves at the bar when a gentleman from the other end of the bar rudely told us that there wasn t a bartender on staff. However there was currently a server mixing a drink. We would ve been very patient and gladly would ve waited for someone to make us a drink. He was VERY rude and dismissed us immediately. We weren t dressed like homeless people. I look forward to sharing my story with a manager. Very disappointing
Fantastic experience! The food and the views, 6 stars. Flatbread pizza and chicken pesto sandwich were yum
Ordered nachos for $19.. barely any cheese or toppings. Had the braised beef and it tasted like it had instant mashed potatoes with it. The lamb ravioli was mediocre. We were so disappointed with the overall meal we had to go to get takeout afterward just to feel satisfied. Also didn t get napkins until we got our main meal so had nachos without any thing to wipes hands or mouths.
Really bad experience at the Dartmouth location unfortunately. Gluten free items were cross contaminated and made me very unwell (despite specifically mentioning to please make sure no cross contamination). Do not recommend if celiac or have a gluten allergy. Unfortunately, I couldnt ever chance going back from the cross contamination We did have some other issues but those were rectified with the manager and a gift card was provided.
Such a warm and inviting resturant. The Wooden Monkey lets you enjoy your company, and serenades you with a breath taking view. Great service and great food, Such a perfect way to spend a night. P.s Might I reccomend the Bruschetta
Great service from Maggie
Best part of my experience was our server Maggie. She was positive, kind & energetic. I will be back for her service specifically.
Funny (but also semi seriously) they should have called it the hokey pokey, bc you will get yourself all turned around trying to find the entrance. Go into the Market and follow signs for elevator. Its on the 2nd floor. I cannot think of a restaurant where Ive eaten more/better to die for food. Everything was absolutely delish. Our waiter, Sam, was great. We sat outside on a chilly day, they provided blankets for guests that were cold. 10/10, find a way to make sure you eat here!
Delicious food, amazing ambiance, excellent views of Halifax, relaxed and knowledgeable service.
I am never disappointed here!! Our server was fantastic, and the Nachos were great!!!
The food was fantastic, and the service was even better. I dont think Ive ever had such good service in a restaurant. Importantly, the server was very proactively helpful to one of our party at navigating the menu for a dietary restriction. I ordered the scallop pasta. It was delicious. As feedback though, I think Id suggest mentioning in the menu how many scallops are in the dish. As a tourist from a non-coastal part of Canada, seafood pricing in restaurants is unfamiliar to me. So despite how much I loved the dish and would recommend it, I may have chosen something different had I known how many scallops would be involved. Not a complaint, just feedback from a tourist who is still learning to ask before ordering when it comes to mouthwateringly delicious, fresh seafood. Oh, and get the creme brule. Its worth it. Dietary restrictions: Very helpful at navigation the menu when it came to the dietary restrictions of one of our party. I was impressed.
This was a place I loved to go. Went there for lunch today with 3 coworkers. There was hardly anyone else there. It took almost an hour to get our meals. The service was definitely not up to par. I had the soup, it was a very small portion. A coworker had the fish and roasties, this is the meal I normally get. The fish portions were much smaller and she said it was just ok. Another for worker had the monkey burger, what a joke. It was so small that you could not even see the chicken. We were appalled that they would even serve it. We told the waitress to look at at and complained about the lack of chicken on it. She said its a 5 oz chicken breast. It was a dried up miniscule piece of chicken. I would honestly be embarrassed as a restaurant to serve it and for the price they charge. My other co worker had the apple salad and said it was ok. Inflated prices, decreased quality and portion size. Dont waste your money. We will never go back
The food is always great here, but on this particular night, the service was unexpectedly slow. The restaurant was not very busy, but it took over an hour for our food to arrive. Parking: Free parking on weekends.
Simple food, could be better but great atmosphere and great service.
Great views from the outside patio.
Great atmosphere on the patio, beautiful setting. Indoors was spacious and inviting. Server was very energetic, attentive and polite. Food was very good, ordered a pizza. This place is excellent for allergies. Clear answers, allergy guide online and great responses. Highly recommend trying it out.
One of our familys favorite spots. Great local food and really friendly staff.
The atmosphere was very good given the clean, well-organized promises and beautiful views of the Halifax skyline. I found the staff to be very friendly and the food quality was also good. I found the place to be a little bit on the pricey side though. I recommend this place. My experience here was positive.
Delicious food and great service. Would recommend.
Wish we got to try the food. We were seated for dinner. Nobody came by the table to even acknowledge us. After 15 minutes of the wait staff walking by us we got up and left We were acknowledged when we got up to leave lol. Poor service.
Great food and service!
My hubby and I were in after walking through Canada day celebrations ,and RIfest. Our waitress was fantastic and very helpful with our dietary needs. My hubby said its the best gluten free fish and chips hes ever had. I had a fantastic kale chicken ceasar salad as Im on keto. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Dartmouth.
A must visit for Dartmouth! Had delicious VEGAN garlic fingers, the apple salad was super fresh, and the chocolate pie was the perfect end to a great meal Lovely staff as well, especially Nicole & Kaylie.
Location is perfect, facing the the ocean, has a wonderful view, parking during the day is limited and you have to pay. Decoration and layout are good, I liked the decorations. Really with the view take you to different world. Cleanliness, the restaurant level of cleaning is plausible. And I noticed the quick reaction to clean the tables after clients leave. Service, the ladies who takes the order is well knowledge about the dishes and the ingredients, they can describe the dishes well. Orders, I noticed the orders are taken properly from the first time without mistakes. Time waiting, to be seated, (my experience) was quickly. Time to get the order was excellent, faster than expected. Taste, I enjoyed every part of my order, it was delicious and Rich that is self Worth the ***** Prices the price is $$ however with the perfect service, nice food and cleanliness is worth what I paid. Conclusion: it is worth the money I paid. I see if you decided to try it, my experience was all positive.
I had the roasted red pepper dip and it had a sour taste. I told the server and he had no apologies or even a smile on his face. My aunt had the mussels and they were not fresh. She mentioned this to the server and he made no comment. I expected to have a good experience here given the location but it felt like the server was bored and tired and couldnt be bothered with us. If this is the kind of food/service there then lower the cost of the food.
We came into the wooden monkey yesterday with our two kids and it was amazing! Our son is celiac and it was great to see so many gluten free kid options. He had the fish and roasties and loved it! All of our food was fresh and prepared well, compliments to the chef. Especially for meal (scallop pasta.) The scallops were seared to perfection. As for the service, I don t think you could find better! Our server Nicole was very helpful navigating the menu and attentive, after a long day of travelling it was great to be taken well care of by her. The kids especially loved her! Overall, one of the best restaurants I ve been to.
I havent received my meal yet and already have good vibes.
We were looking forward to trying this restaurant, but sadly it wasnt a positive experience. Our server was good, but it felt like they were short-staffed and perhaps the kitchen staff was was also understaffed because it took unusually long for our food to come out. Mussels were gritty, a couple were closed, and the sauce was bland and watery Fish and roasties: fish was overcooked and dry, roasted potato wedges were flavorless and also overcooked. Dont think well be returning when we visit Dartmouth again
Service was great, food tasted good, but gave me food poisoning
Food was good but very very small portions. The fish sizes were very small and came with very few fries. Certainly not an adult meal.
Our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable, and lovely. She was also dealing with a demanding table and handled it like a pro. Our food was delicious, as usual. I had the fish cakes with an apple salad. The Wooden Monkey is a great place to have a glass of wine and a great meal.
Rude staff! Rude staff! Rude staff! Please! Never go to the Wooden monkey restaurant. The bartender was extreamly rude on me, he just shouted on me for my pickup order and said he cannot help me, unfortunate he didnt even say sorry for this rude behaviour today is August 9th, 2023, 8.20pm, will never ever go there in future
Overall our experience was really positive. We did have to wait a bit to be seated despite the restaurant not being busy. The host appeared to be responsible for several tables and struggling. Once we were seated however our server arrived promptly and service was great from then on. Food was delicious, great selection of vegetarian options, extensive drink menu and some great non-alcoholic drink choices. Vegetarian options: Tried the seitan donair which is vegan, it was delicious!
Wonderful spot!
I fell in love with the lentil burger!!!!!
Love this place. Has many options for vegan, dairy free and gluten free consumers. I m dairy free and each time I go, they are so helpful in making sure I get a meal that is within my dietary restrictions, and still tasty! My go-to app. vegan garlic fingers as you can t get them dairy free in many places. I choose a different entree each time I go but everything has been good from the braised beef to the pizzas, salads and soups. The one complaint I have is that my partner had me try their Cajun Haddock dish and the fish was so bland. Everything else had great flavour though!
Lovely evening with great service, even beyond our server; our table was brought an appetizer to share due to kitchen moving through a number of orders. I had the Cajun haddock and it perfect!
Very beautiful restaurant with absolutely delicious dishes made of locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. A lot of vegetarian or vegan options and they offer alternatives for allergies too. Impeccable. The service was attentive and really nice. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant, we had a great time!
Excellent service, food was great.
Ate here on a Tuesday evening. It was a beautiful October evening out on the patio. Such a prime view of the MacDonald Bridge and the city and sunset! All three of us started with a beer or margarita. The bruschetta (vegan cheese) was our app, 4 large pieces and it was delicious! Mains were the rice bowl, BLT and bacon cheeseburger with roasties. All were really enjoyed, rice bowl was enough for lunch the next day. Our waiter was great, attentive to vegan diet, didnt make us feel rushed to order everything all at once. Just a great evening! It was my first time here and wont be my last! Parking: Had reservations here on a Tuesday at 6:30pm. We parked outside at the Alderney Ferry Terminal which I believe is free after 6pm. I didnt get a ticket at least lol lots of parking available and a short walk to the restaurant which has en elevator.
My wife and I love going here for our date nights. The food has always been amazing and we have always had a lovely server. Absolutely recommend this restaurant. Such a calming atmosphere too Dietary restrictions: Easily accommodates for my wifes celiac disease (gluten free)
Loved our lunch at this restaurant. Our server, Jenna proactively asked us of any allergies or dietary restrictions which I ve never been asked at a restaurant before which is rather good on their part.
The best meal and service that we have had in a long time. The jerk chicken risotto and chocolate tofu pie were both rich and decadent. Our server Adam was a real treat, we hope to see him again, because we definitely will be back.
Lamb Burger and Chocolate Tofu Pie, cant go wrong.
$20 for two tacos was tough to digest but they taste good. Tough time for restaurants. Our waitress was lovely but waiting for her to take payment took extremely long.
After a red-eye from YYC and a nap at the hotel, made our way across the street to the Wooden Monkey for a late lunch. Shared the scallops (on recommendation from our server); excellent along with the included side of cabbage. Also had the mussels - a garlic infused broth - as well as the soup of the day (sweet potato & leek). Beer on tap was local Nova Scotian - IPAs aplenty. Love the mission of the restaurant! Keep supporting local.
Impeccable Service Went For Xmas Company Party The Buffet Food Was Delicious and Plentiful, The Staff are Fantastic Prompt Courteous Quick Service Lots of Parking
Beautiful birthday dinner for my husband with a family group. We were very well taken care of. Dietary restrictions: Plenty of gluten free options
I love the philosophy of the Wooden Monkey to use local ingredients. The food was good, but not great. The portion size could be increased slightly. It was expensive for what we got. I was with one other person and we both left not feeling full or completely satisfied with our meal. The lavender mocktail was really good though and our server was attentive.
Never ate there as yet. Jazz/dinner music entertainment tho ok. Music is a hit regardless in any situation
from the moment that I laid eyes on that post-burger chocolate-tofu desert what? And getting past the suspended-disbelief that it wasnt cheesecake (in taste in texture) I knew that I was in for the kind of quality that such a unique dish merits. Dont get me wrong - I am biased towards delicious burgers and fries upon which desert is usually reserved only for social gatherings and coffee-sipping philosophies that drag on for far too long - but it must be said that chocolate pie with whipped cream and purple syrup was exceptional in quality as was the view of the harbour and the beautiful city exclusivism that the best seat in the house provides.
Soup was delicious, but only half full. Yes I ordered the full order. The salad was seriously lacking in goat cheese and walnuts. Maybe a tablespoon on it. I would try again, but I ll eat in next time
Had a lunch today with 7 people( 2 were vegan) : everybody really enjoyed their meals, the service was good and I can t say enough about the meals; I would go there again.
Nice location and servers, price was reasonable for the location and ambience. We had the lamb burger, chorizo pizza and korean tacos. Few things could be improved such as the sauce on the taco and the bread/tortilla, the burger patty wasnt the best and the chorizo pizza was good but the thin crust was a bit soggy from sauce.
Great location, service and atmosphere. Food average. Taco appetizer way too sweet.
Ordered takeout from here and my boyfriend went and picked it up - The staff was SO nice to both of us, the food came home still hot, and this was the best meal I have had in probably 2 years. I got the salmon and I would literally eat that for breakfast lunch and dinner. Im gluten and dairy free so my food options usually arent great and its very hard to find good food I can eat. Props to this restaurant, its staff and its chefs!!!!
The service was amazing. Not sure of our servers name but she wore a cat mask. She was very professional and attentive. She went above and beyond for one of the people in our party. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals except for me hence why it didnt quite get a 5 star review. Our server did ask how my meal was and I said it was good. But the Braised Beef was way over cooked as it was very tough and chewy. Ive had other great meals here in the past but it was just this one meal that didnt hit the mark. Great job overall.
The food was ok, compare to some of the restaurants around them they don t really hold up. I can t say there was a dish that blew me away and there were a few things I didn t eat at all. (Fatty soggy bacon around the scallops. Beautiful view and decent service.
We had a wonderful dinner there, our server was fantastic. Great food and atmosphere too
Great food and atmosphere! Love that their selections are locally sourced. Lots of vegan and gluten free options. A must try.
Stopped in here for lunch. Staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and gave great service. Had the scallops, and pick tacos - both delish. Good selection of local beers as well
The Korean tacos are a must try! The staff are friendly and the view is wonderful! Always have the dessert of the day.
Absolutely love their food. Always receive kind and great service. Love how it is easy to reserve online.
We had a very nice waiter very attentive. The food came out piping hot and not too long of a wait. Very delicious
I didn t enjoy their pizzas. The crust was so hard and took more than 20 minutes. But once we complained that the crust is too hard, they offered the same with a light crust free of charge. They told that the pizza crust is made of rice flour. The staff was very polite. The place is cool and nice.
Food and service were great, place itself was nice although we ate inside instead of the patio since it was raining. Multiple people recommended coming out to Dartmouth to eat here instead of the Halifax location and I m not sure it s worth it. Maybe on a nicer day?
Our daily outing to Dartmouth on the ferry was refreshing and ended with a drink and great staff here.
Beautiful atmosphere
Nice restaurant to go with a group in Dartmouth.
Nice place, great view, excellent service. Food artfully prepared and tasted both piping hot and delicious. The gourmet root beer added a nice touch. Warned it was cooked from scratch (or thereabouts) so was delighted when it arrived in a reasonable time. The cheesecake du jour was the grand finale. Everything was as close to perfect as you can get!
Top notch food!
The best thing about this restaurant was the server, however the food was at most just okay. My chicken and pestco sandwich was like a chicken salad dsandwich and had no taste. The bacon wrapped scalloped had very fatty and under cooked bacon. The potatoe wedges were plentiful but over done. It was hard to find the bacon on the chicken club my daughter had was also shredded chicken . Very disappointing food .
Food and service were excellent! We were there with a large group and we were all very happy. Apparently the vegan meals were excellent too! Also a great view, will have to come back and try the patio some time!
The curry was fantastic.
Such a great little spot! Excellent view of the water, friendly service, and delicious gluten free options (we ordered so much food, it was awesome). Definitely worth checking out!
Delicious vegan Donair and great service!
Good options for non meat eaters, vegan Donaire! One of my favorite places in Dartmouth. Great view of Halifax & sunset.
I went in on a Saturday afternoon. The staff was very pleasant and helpful when I asked for a salad recommendation (sweet apple). All the food was delicious (fish cakes). Verry relaxed and enjoyable over all and a nice veiw as well.
Average experience at this restaurant from our side. We were disappointed with our pizzas and the service was a little long. Maybe the other dishes are better and they seem to offer a little healthier options. Also well located, on the waters edge (beautiful terrace).
Incredible spot, right by the ferry termina in Dartmouth, overlooking Halifax. The service was fantastic and felt very covid conscious . The menu has an interesting mix of recipes made from locally sourced ingredients. Well be recommending this to friends for sure.
We have ordered Nachos and Garlic Bread and enjoyed the view darmouth busker fest from outside patio. The staff was user friendly and nice. Although, could not find much options for vegetarians.
We had arrived late in town but were pleased to find this restaurant still open. Our waiter was outstanding. He was kind and funny and helped us to settled down and relax after a long day of travel. My partner had cod, which was fresh and beautifully prepared. I had a chicken sandwich that I thought a bit disarrayed in its flavor palate but it was still satisfying. The best part of all may be the views across the harbor to Halifax, watching the familiar pattern of the ferries crossing back and forth. Their patio would be the perfect place to enjoy a meal and unwind with a peaceful view. Our meal was a great welcome to Dartmouth!
Great view of downtown Halifax and tasty bacon wrapped scallops!
Really enjoyed our meals - so much better than the Halifax location. We ate inside as it was pretty windy on the patio, but view was still stunning. Ordered the Fish & Roasties from the Light Menu and the portion was huge! Really liked how you could have 1/2 salad and 1/2 potatoe ($3.95 add on). Food was delicious and our server, Amy Lynn was lovely
The city is extremely busy and the restaurant was at capacity. Our professional server Bones still took the time to explain the wait time for our meal and brought our drinks promptly to the balcony with the fantastic view if Halifax and the beautiful Halifax harbour. Frankly the careful service provided by Bones more than offset a relaxing 20 minute wait time for our food. Fine wine , great conversation and the great view made the wait seem short. After learning about Bones journey to Canada for him and his family, I was so happy to hear about how much he appreciates Canada. Bones we really appreciate you! It made our delicious meal way better than advertised!!! High recommend this spot and Bones!!!
Busy spot but for good reason. Different selection of good quality meals and friendly staff.
Great drinks, great service, and a great view of the Halifax harbour. I recommend the garlic fingers.
Went for my first time to celebrate my daughters birthday had meticulously planned and when we went I tried to order 3 different items from the menu and they didnt have. There was nothing left after that I would have wanted so I sat there with my husband and daughter and awkwardly sat while they ate dinner. Then I ordered cheesecake for her birthday and it was flavorless for the grand charge. Not happy dont recommend, very disappointed. Spend money elsewhere for quality non pre made food!
Great service and options for allergies
They haven t changed their menu in years. The bruschetta had nothing to do with the Italian bruschetta, you only need to make it with a slight hint of garlic and marinated cherry tomatoes...not sure why they use a weird pizza square bread and chop the ingredients so thinly, not sure what they put on top, but we could ONLY taste the garlic and onion. Weird. Their Korean tacos we ordered had only one flavour profile: acidic. It was absolutely disgusting. We usually go there because their location is nice, but every time it s a disappointing experience for us all. They forgot to add chicken to our cousin s meals in two separate occasions (the only 2 times we went there for our family get together-always the same mistake), the person we talked to while booking our reservation (by phone), forgot to actually reserving us a table.... last time we went there we also felt rushed by our waitress to leave our table to make space for new patrons.... With all the good intention to support you guys, we decided to never come back.
This restaurant was recommended on a YouTube vlog. We gave it a try yesterday. Sat outside on the patio with great views. Umbrellas at the tables would help since it was hot and sunny? Patio could have been cleaner, weeds growing up all around and needed a good sweep or power wash. We had 2 beers and split a club sandwich. Sandwich was good...but $18. For a club is a bit pricey. $12-15. Would have been sufficient for the portion. Beer was $9.50 for less than a pint size. Good service from our waiter. Inside is very tired, in need of a freshen up. Wont go back, unless they clean the place up and make prices sensible.
Great atmospere, amazing food and fantastic service. All local sourced meal ingredients and loads of GF options.
Vegetarian options: So many fantastic vegan options.
Food is a disaster. The pizza is made with a pita crust. The Fish is breaded with a soggy rice coating and must have been microwaved. The coleslaw was a week old at least. The Donaire is vegetarian! I felt sick just trying to eat the first 2 bites. I dont recommend at all - 0 stars if possible.
Ill give it two stars for the view. The food however, seems like it came from a cafeteria. I had a rice bowl that was little more than some undercooked chunks of vegetable on white rice with soy sauce and five sad little scallops on the side that I paid an extra $8 for. Did I mention that I had to wait over an hour for the displeasure of eating it?
Great place for vegan and non meat people. Ordered Blueberry lavender Mozitto and vegan Burger. It was so delicious. Great view of sunset and halifax city too. Definitely recommend.
Beautiful scenery, great atmosph ere
I went here last weekend and was not impressed. I had ordered the fish cakes and they had looked a lot different than what I was picturing but just ate them. I had an inkling that they gave me the fish and chips instead and now after seeing pictures posted with reviews here I can confirm they gave me the wrong meal. The kale salad I had was so bulky it made my jaw hurt. With kale you really need to either slice it very thin or sauté it but the salad were just these big bulky leaves which were insanely hard to chew. My fiancés sidedish was so bizarre that it made us both laugh. He had ordered the chickpea salad and it was about 95% rice with a few chickpeas sprinkled in and came with 3 nacho chips and a lime crusted with sesame seeds. All of my friends and family who have been to the Wooden Monkey also had really bad experiences. I really dont recommend this place - there are so many better options in the HRM.
Fantastic staff, super friendly. Prices were very reasonable. Beautiful patio overlooking the water. Lots of gluten-free options. Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten-free. We had the gluten free pasta and the rice bowl. Both were delicious. The rice bowl was super colourfull with fresh vegetables. Dietary restrictions: Lots of different dietary options listed, gluten free, dairy free, and vegan.
We went for a special occasion and were quite dressed up, but didnt feel out of place amongst the tourists popping in after a ferry ride or friends stopping in for a bite after work. Its got a great view if you can get a spot near a window. We tried many things on the menu and all were either good or great. The only sort-off miss was the braised beef, which had a delicious gravy and perfect sides but the beef itself was a little tough. The waiter who served us took his time to chat with us, visited us often to check in on us and was very kind to our children. Vegetarian options: Each section had at least one vegetarian and one dairy free option. Dietary restrictions: Good options for vegetarian, vegan and dairy free. Always nice to see more than one option on the menu. Parking: There was plenty of parking at Alderney Landing. Definitely not an issue most of the time. Kid-friendliness: I wouldnt call the restaurant kid-friendly per se. It isnt a family diner experience. They do have a childrens menu and they were very attentive to our childrens requests but a child running around or babies screaming would be out of place.
Theres a lot to love about The Wooden Monkey, as a fan of sustainable farming they are a glowing example of how we can have awesomely delicious food while working with local farms to achieve true farm to plate as a business model. The menu is based off seasonal and local offerings so it may change based on the time of the year but youll find veg and non veg offerings at pretty much anytime of the year. If youre looking for a great date spot or just love good food, check out the wooden monkey!
This is a great place to eat and totally recommended if your visiting Halifax/Dartmouth. Great atmosphere overlooking the water. Most of the menu is or can be made gluten free including desserts. My wife and I had some pasta, both were excellent meal. For dessert we had a cheesecake and dairy free chocolate pie. Just great experience overall. Its a little more on the pricey side but its worth it.
Staff was stellar. Food was the fastest I think Ive ever experienced. View and atmosphere is unmatched.
One of my favourite local spots, always friendly, the food is fresh and flavourful. The evolving menu keeps things interesting. Whats not to love. I bring friends here everytime they come to visit NS. Keep up the good work!
Great place to meet up
Diffcult getting here... its in the ferry terminal you have to go up the elevator Had the bacon scallops, fish tacos and lamb ravioli Its like eating at your friends moms house, foods home made, could use some more seasoning. The view is mint
Dined here this evening and was really impressed with the overall quality of the food. I was a little sceptical because the menu caters to many food sensitivities. However, I can assure you that the taste is not compromised and will impress even the toughest critics. I had the lamb burger and substituted my side dish for a kale Caesar salad, they were both delicious. The homemade Caesar dressing was possibly the best I ve tasted. We finished with the Signature Dish, the Tofu Chocolate Pie! Don t dine here without having this pie. It will amaze your tastebuds. Bravo Wooden Monkey.
What a wonderful location on the Dartmouth waterfront! Amazing views, menu, and service.
I NEED to give a special shout out to the Wooden Monkey in Dartmouth. We just had our reception there last night and everything went so incredible all thanks to Adam and his team. There are two large private rooms we rented out. The decorations were ours but the venue, the price, the food and most importantly the staff were PHENOMENAL. I have truly never experience a restaurant experience like their level of caring and attention to detail. Future brides/grooms if you have a wedding party if 60 and under (if you want a dance space) Please reach out to Adam at the Dartmouth Wooden Monkey you will not regret it.
The pizza was bad but the seats were the worst
With beautiful city scape views of Halifax waterfront and menu supporting local and vegan options, the Wooden Monkey is a great night out with friends. Service is always attentive and there s plenty of free parking nearby after 6pm. For starters, try their new beet salad, or my favourite the sweet apple salad!
