I love this place! They offer a $10 lunch special. The quality of the food that you get for the price is incredible! At first, my goal was to order every item from the lunch menu. But some of the dishes are so good (like the sesame beef), that I keep re-ordering it instead of trying a new one :)
Authentic Chinese Restaurant in West Island The food were tasty and came in big portions. They have spacious place for dine in and the owner/chef was incredibly friendly. We had a combo G option, which came as 4 types of appetizers including wonton soup, egg rolls, fried sesame balls with sweet red beans, and spicy wonton, and and 6 main course including fried rice, fried noodles, shrimp with mixed vegetables, beef and broccoli, general Tao chicken, and stewed spicy tofu fish. The new owner took over 2 years ago and changed the menu to halal options (only chicken, beef, and fish), nevertheless Google never took down the old menus and photos although their requested it. They have a halal meat supplier Madina Ltd. They also offer 9.99$ special menu offer, which is basically a bowl of rice and a dish (eg. general tao chicken). A good deal for a meal.
First of all the food is Halal 😍 truly delicious 😋 good and fast service as well…surely go again 😃
Food was delicious, well priced and brought out fast. Chef/ waiter was extremely kind and happy to serve us. Definitely would recommend for authentic, cozy and hearty chinese food! Will definitely go back!
One of the best chinese restaurants in West Island that I’ve ever had! Enjoyed the wonton soup, hot & sour soup, as well as stirred fried plate. The lunch special is phenomenal and reasonable price. They serve hot tea, which is great for cold weather. Highly recommended and would come again!
It's not every day that my mom calls me and says she wants to take me to try a restaurant she discovered. She went to Yuan Lei, an authentic Chinese restaurant, with a friend and was so impressed. Even my dad and my sister loved it. So we went there last night. A little background, we are a Chinese family. My dad has worked in the restaurant business for 50 years. He had a restaurant in Cote des Neige for many years until he retired. Some dishes were a miss, like the singapore noodles were bland and watery, but their specialty dishes were 👌 Their stir-fried green beans and shredded eggplant was my favorite. I totally did not miss meat. Their hot and sour soup is quite good too. Although the restaurant looks dated, i found the decor to be nice. I especially appreciated that they seem to have a good ventilation system and it didnt smell like fried grease like many small chinese restaurants. The service was very friendly despite the lady not speaking any other language than Mandarin. The service can get a bit slow if it's very busy because its run by just the mom and son. The son does everything. You also can't beat the 6.99 lunch special.
The Eggplant with minced pork and their Braised pork in brown sauce on their dinner menu is absolutely delicious! The sauce for both dishes is heavenly! Goes really well with rice. They have a different lunch menu than their dinner menu. My one lunch experience here was disappointing. I wouldn't come back for lunch here. Though I'd definitely recommend coming here for dinner.
I am updating my review. I have been going here since 2017. The food is excellent. I think the bad reviews come from people who want American Chinese food. This simply isn't that. You would think the sign would be clear enough. It is authentic Sichuan-Cantonese cuisine. It is very spicy and sometimes the flavors are different. I personally adore this style of Chinese. The chef is talented, passionate and chooses the freshest ingredients. He also happily accommodates vegan customers. I hope to eat at this restaurant for years to come. Next time I dine in, I will post pictures.
Great food Great service This will be my new go to for Chinese food Food : 5/5
Great Halal Food, Great portions and Great Service
The food is good , service is ok but looks very old inside the restaurant need renovation
Too slow, disorganized, made mistakes in the order and I realized until i was home. Food was flavourless not coming back.
Amazing food and amazing owner! 100% halal authentic Chinese. Super delicious, made fresh to order and hugeee portion! Their menu is full halal. Disregard old reviews since this place has been brought by the new owner and its full halal
Best Chinese food
This is not halal restaurant? How can that be halal when u serving pork in ur Menu
Worst experience ever in my life. Ordered Sesame beef and Sweet Sour Porc. 1- Thrown out Sesame beef because I could smell cheese after chewing it. 2- Sweet & Sour porc, the meat was hard to chew, and too salty, my family only ate 1/3, thrown out. NEVER ordering from this restaurant again.
Friendly staff, great food and affordable prices!
Cannot comment on service or Atmosphere, we ordered through Skip. Food was not gourmet, not even close. General Tao was in a sweet sauce, not spicy at all, Hot and Sour soup was not hot or sour and had rubbery pieces of mushrooms in there, we requested a side Sweet and sour sauce for our Chicken, but didn t get that.
Love this restaurant it s my favourite Chinese restaurant in Montreal, I go there a lot and the food is always served fast. They serve authentic traditional Chinese food and the people serving us are all really nice so the customer service is great too. 10/10 would recommend
Small restaurant, Big quality, excellent taste, marvelous price!
We ordered our first meal from Yuan Li today New Years Eve. We were not disappointed. From the soup to the rice dishes it was very good. (We really enjoyed the garlic broccoli).
very good service, I love this restaurant. their specialty is really good.
Restaurant not recommended - opinion based on the starter wonton soup and the main course fried noodles with shrimp taken in September 2018.
almost of dishes are pretty delicious!!
Not your average over sweetened msg kind of place !! This is one of the best flavourful spots. We had the 3 chili spiced chicken which was one of the first times Ive ever had a dish like this before. It is a no sauce dish where the plate had plenty of fried chilis with scallions I personally didnt find it very spicy so dont be overwhelmed if your scared of spice they were packed with flavor and exscentuiated the light crispy batter on the tender chicken. We also enjoyed the chicken fried noodles where the broth was plentiful and not overwhelming you could taste the flavor of the flame throughout the crisp veggies and succulent chicken breast. The sweet and sour chicken was one of a kind where the sauce didnt leave you thirsty like most places the same light crispy batter was used in this dish and was nicely complemented with bell pepper and onion quarters all and all was a great night out with my wonderful wife and will definitely come back for more ohnistly the price was more then fair the portions were Harty and food was amazing the chef was a true gentleman.
Been seeing this place for a long time but just realized its halal. Went in, the owner was very friendly explained everything we needed to know reasonable prices with good quantity and quality of food and unbeatable taste. Been wanting to have halal Chinese food for a long time and now this is my regular goto place.
My favourite Chinese restaurant in the West Island! Very affordable (especially the lunch specials), super tasty, fast service, and the workers are very kind!
The atmosphere is not special but that is not what I look for in a restaurant. This is my second time and I was impressed with the chefs willingness to explain and help with ordering authentic Tianjin specialties. This is not American Cantonese cuisine so be prepared for an adventure and try something different.
Fantastic, authentic Chinese restaurant. The flavors were delicious, and the staff are warm and welcoming. We cant wait to go back to try more dishes.
Not sure this was beef. Suppose to be orange beef but the sauce is all yellow and liquid
I havent eaten yet but the service is excellent.
Worst asian restaurant in the west island... they simply dont care about customers... The place was empty they kept us waiting 25 min before taking our order... they managed to mess up our order and the food was cold... Nobody understood when we called to complain... Never again... there are, WAY beyter places in the WI
Such enjoyable vast menu ! Very good food.
Based on previous reviews, I went to this restaurant with my wife & mother. The restaurant looks a little run down but the service was quick & courteous. We ordered 3 dishes, General Tao, Chicken & vegetables & a beef and broccoli dish. Absolutely delicious. Both my wife & mom are picky eaters but they commented on how good the food was. Would recommend this restaurant. Smallish, cozy with great food.
Food is delicious, general Tao and hunan dumplings were amazing, staff us incredibly kind, service is insanely fast
Food is great nice friendly staff nice clean environment
I have been ordering from this restaurant now and again since it opened. I found the food this time disappointing. The fried calamari were way over battered. It was like eating fried donuts. Also the oil was not fresh for fried dishes including the chicken. The flavors were not as intense as usual. Maybe it was an off night but for chinese it is pricey and should be on point all the time. Its too bad because not much to choose from in the area and I used to really like it.
It s delicious. I come here to eat it often. I like the chef s skills
The food here is very subpar. We ordered a pad thai, asked for no egg and not spicy. Picked up the food, and it s got egg, high level of spice. Despite this, the noodles came without any sauce. The food was vastly improved when I tossed the noodles in a frying pan, added some soy sauce, and essentially finished the dish myself. If you want to order food you ll then have to cook anyway in order to make it remotely palatable, this is the place for you!
This is the best tasting Chinese I have tasted in a very long time. The dining room looks like a warehouse but the owners were super attentive. Best option, ready to go.
So good taste
This place is pretty legit southern Chinese restaurant. Their mapo tofu got that back of the throat spicy that you couldnt find in many places. Going to be one of my go to spots in the West Island.
The best quality and tastiest Chinese homemade food, Well behaved and polite staff, I strongly suggest you try it.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Montreal is right here for delicious meals and perfect service.
Probably one of the worst takeout Chinese food Ive ever had. No flavor, just an oily mess.
Ordered shrimp fried rice and fried noodles...white rice with no sauce and barely any shrimps. The fried noodle ? Well, it wasnt fried let alone no taste.
Great food, very friendly customer service. Definitely one of my top favorite restaurants.
We went in on a Thursday night. there were no clients in the place.. We ordered rice, General Tao and beef vegetables. One sour soup and one Won Ton to go. the rice was good, the soups fine. the General Tao tasteless but plentiful. The vegetable beef was lacking beef and the beef that was in it had no taste. The vegetables were soggy, overcooked.. We wont be back.
The pho makes me happy. There is also hot and sour soup. The whole vinegar soup makes me sour. I just found out that I charged 5 yuan for a box of rice nb and my attitude was very bad when ordering. I gave two stars too much, one star and one star.
Ordered three plates: Beef and broccoli - contained onions and old carrots General Tao Chicken - The sauce had very little spiciness and there was more batter than chicken, old carrots were used Thai Chicken curry - Contained chopped up chicken thighs bones and all
The chow mien is very dry and hard with very little sauce. We are like eating uncooked noodles. Their salt and pepper pork are full of flour I cannot even find the pork. They just poured out the salt and too much MSG on top of the pork without even mixing it so the top is too salty and the bottom is too bland. What a waste of money.
the restaurant is so dirty, there are flies in the rice and the crazy woman around 50 years old is so rude, no customer service, this woman asked to pay in cash to save taxes, need to regulate!
Very pleasantly surprised by how good the Mapo tofu was and the braised pork belly was very good too. Will definitely be coming back
Amazing service they even cooked me meals that werent on the menu Really enjoyed the food and experience.
The food was not good. I eat a lot of Chinese and this was the worst. Not a good choice.
The food is not that good. It is greasy and not well made. The rise was not even well cook. I order beef rice there was tree peaces in the rice. I got onion rice instead full off onions. Overly oily and the fride chicken had no taste. I have chainese food for years. This is the words place I have ever been for chainese.I think Macdonald has more taste. If you brave enough go on your own risk.
Authentic canto-szechuan restaurant with ok service.
All the dishes lacked seasonings, I have never eaten anything that had so little taste. Everything we ate seemed to have been stretched with way too much water. Same thing for the wonton soup, it tasted nothing! Its not worth it.
Great Owner and great restaurant. The food is great
great food, good service, clean environment
All the food was extremely disgusting, calamari was sauggy and over breaded, fried chicken was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside and overly salty, rice was stiff and salty...nothing was apetizing, we ended up throwing 80$ of food
Quality of food is not great but it is okay and portion is decent... We ate there during winter and it was freezing cold inside, and food became cold after 5 mins, and restaurant owner spoke to us in their language not able to speak a little English or French...
Truly an authentic taste of China. Go and taste it before it s Americanized! I like!
I think these people double tax...I could be wrong.
Slow service, dishes came out at different times, got my appetizer when my friends got their main dishes. I got my steamed rice then fifteen minutes later i got my main dish. Food was sub-par, bland, cold, absolutely 0 flavor. The restaurant had poor insulation so i was cold the whole time i was there. Gave it 1 star solely cause the parking is good.
Food is decent and authentic but it takes ages, literally ages before you get your order. Don t go there if you are super hungry or you are in a rush. They provide good service, but they have this zen like approach where everything is slow. I once went at around 8:00 pm and they have no more steamed rice!!
They have realy good authentic Chinese food as well as western friendly dishes. Its the only Chinese restaurant my dad would eat at.
Had lunch special. Very inexpensive but quantity and quality reflected price point. Rather ordinary. May return to try another dish. Free parking - suburban parking lot. Service was ok. No atmosphere. Kitchen was a bit slow in coming out with our dishes - dishes came out one at a time - so if you wait for your companions to get their food, yours will be cold.
Impossible to make yourself understood in French. Greasy and overly spicy food. I do not recommend it. Poor value for money.
Its a little jewel, on the west island, if youre looking for a authentic Chinese restaurant. Family owned. Cozy and quiet.
Authentic chinese food. If you go there to order General Tao, you are missing the point. Best chinese food in the West Island, hands down. Delicious! !
Service is very average. Food is actually surprising. Feels more like homemade food than restaurant. Comfort of the seating is bad and they should install a door instead of that awful sheet.
THE best restaurant Ive ever been! Love the General Thao. 100% recommend this place for anyone that love Chinesse Food!!!!!
Got a hot and sour soup that tasted like hot water and beef noodles with zero flavor quite possibly the work experience Ive had
Authentic Chinese cuisine, no frills, affordable and with friendly service. What more can you ask for for a nice lunch venue. Really enjoyed the spiciness of the hot and sour soup.
Springrolls had no flavor.....The seafood tofu soup taste like salt water...there were like 3 mini frozen shrimps... no seafood, no peas, no carrots, no flavor... ??? will not order again.
Authentic and pleasant China
I have had the pleasure of visiting this fine dining establishment for lunch today. The food is absolute garbage. Save your money and go to the vietnamese place to the left. Seriously the chicken tasted like butane, ive literally had frozen microwave dinners much better than this. If i could give a 0 i would.
how does a chinese restaurant manage to mess up rice? I ordered two different dishes and each dish felt as if it were made by a different bad restaurant. overcooked, overspiced or underspiced, bland food. Portions vary greatly from dish to dish even among the same proteins. The service was abysmal as it took close to 1 hour to get a takeout order while the restaurant had only 1 other party at the time. This isnt the worst chinese food ive had, but its probably one of the worst experiences ive had in a chinese restaurant overall.
Its like the RBC ad on YouTube if you havent seen it. Its like a chef trying to invent new craps and youre the victim. And you pay for it.
Food was delicious, lots to choose from..theres something for everyone . service was great, friendly staff. Prices are reasonable and you get what you paid for, 100% worth it! Love this place :)
The sign says, AUTHENTIC Chinese food and they mean it. Ive been waiting for ages for one to open on the West island!
Dont get surprised, this is not the typical Cantonese food you find about everywhere. This is the authentic Pekinese food! The taste is different and you need to know that! I thought it was weird at first until i understood the difference and acquired that taste. And seriously, its good!
Food deliver Very slow
The taste of our food was decent but found that the amount of meat in the dishes was less than generous; just barely acceptable in my book. Service was inattentive even though we were the only ones there.
Incredible food and friendly service. Many vegetarian/vegan options. Best Chinese food in the area! The lunch specials are especially worth it.
Extremely poor service never got water and weve been waiting 30 minutes just to pay and get our receipt and the place isnt even half full
Food is below average. Place looks sanitary. The calamari is hard, chicken fried noodle is mostly bean sprouts but good amount of serving. The service is excellent. A bit over price considering the quality of food.
I absolutely love this place. Must get the braised pork with white rice! The sauce is... out of this world!
We stopped by during a weekday. There were 2 tables before us. I have never experienced such a slow service in an Asian restaurant. Each dish came 20 minutes apart!!! And the food was really very disappointing. One dish was undercooked, another one was way overcooked and the third dish - a chefs special dish tasted the same as 2 prior dishes. I usually dont put any reviews or ratings, but the experience was so ridiculous that I had to write something about it. When I asked the staff if it is normal to take this long to get the orders served, he looked at me as he had no idea about that I was talking about... There was no air conditioning in the dinning room, so it was even more frustrating to endure the long wait for the disappointing dishes in the end. For this reason, I wont be returning to this place again. This place really needs the service speed improved and ensure that the main dishes are served at the same time.
very good and typical chinese food.
Possibly the worst fried rice and beef broccoli I have ever tasted not impressed at all!
Very good food. Good authentic choices as well as the usual North American Chinese menu.
Not one friend told me this restaurant is not good but I still wanna have a try. So disappointed. I ordered only one dish to take out this Friday night. There are only two tables with their customers and I waited for this take out for 45 mins. The cashier lady seems do not care about her customers. Bad service and wont come again.
Very bad service and food quality is extremely low. Wont come again and not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
A little gem in the West Island. The Chinese food is authentic and absolutely delicious. I would recommend everyone to give it a try.
Attentive, courteous staff. Place is slippery and cold during winter when I was there. I had to wear a jacket throughout the meal. Ordered crispy half duck for $16. First time I had one thats crispy. It tastes ok. Not too crazy about it and I find the portion small. I dont think I will be back.
Best Chinese restaurant!! Nice service and very authentic Chinese food. love this restaurant a lot.
I love this place great service and even better food. Highly recommended. Best Chinese food in the West island
The lunch specials are so good with such a low price! Only 6.99 before tax! I will definitely come back.
Very, very, very good. Server very understanding of our requests. Very good quality of food. Coming back...
Good restaurant. Reasonable prices. Good price for couples!
Very good food for the price, my girlfriend and I had the general tao and it was great, won ton was also great. The seating was a little awkward
I felt the food was excellent I liked the fish the best.
Excellent and obviously homemade with love and care. Delighted to have Yuan Lei in the neighbourhood.
Very good food. Friendly.
There is a great Chinese food here Im a Chinese, there make me feel like home.
We had no choice again to go there again with my parents due to out of electricity. Food is still below average. I believe the meat had been frozen for an extraordinary long time and then fried with lots of spicy. Went there several times and feeling disappointed every time. Once I order eggplant with shrimp on top. The eggplant was deep fried and obvious over cooked. The inside of eggplant is getting dark completely and extremely oily. I may go back again since not many northern Chinese restaurants in west island. It is really because I have no choice.
New Chinese restaurant, good but ordinary. Disorganized service, no one speaks French (they just arrived in Montreal!). Fried rice comes at the end of the meal, lots of fat in the chicken (chicken and shrimp dish). The dumplings are good, generous portions. Were not going back!
We went to Yuan Lei this past weekend. We were a party of 8 and got there around 6pm on Saturday. The restaurant was about 40% full. The first red flag: they brought us 3 menus for 8 people. In placing our order, the waiter was not able to provide answers to very basic questions. I asked what the difference was between 2 menu items and the answer was Im not sure, I think its the same thing. They then brought us 5 glasses of water for 8 people. When we asked for another 3 glasses, we were told that they did not have enough glasses and gave us extra tea cups to use for water (restaurant is still only 40% full at this point). We ordered 8 menu items: soup, spring rolls, steamed rice and 5 main dishes. First, the soup came out, then 5 minutes later the spring rolls followed. Mixed vegetables were served 10 minutes later. Each dish thereafter, followed one at a time at 10-15 minute intervals - even the rice was served separately! After an hour and a half we decided to leave without even getting the last dish. No tip was left and they questioned us why there was no tip given. I have been to restaurants where it took 45+ minutes to get served but when the meal arrived, it was all there. I have never seen service where each dish was served 15 minutes apart! Its very surprising to see the positive reviews on this restaurant. Maybe there has been a change in ownership because the recent reviews are less favourable. We will not be returning due to the excruciatingly painful service. All I can say is that I hope the owners read this review and make the necessary changes.
HORRIBLE NEON LIGHTING BIG CAFETERIA. OK MIDI.
I have eaten food from this restaurant twice so far, and I must say that I will be a regular customer guaranteed. The quality and portion sizes for the dishes, (both for dine-in and take-out) are WAY above average of the competition. Im not sure what happened to those with lower review scores, but if you really enjoy Chinese food, it is as authentic here as the name of the restaurant suggests. The inside of the restaurant is decorated simply enough compared to places like Pékin Garden but once you try the food, you wont be disappointed. Ill take food quality and quantity over paying for overly-fancy ambiance any day. Dishes pictured are of my latest take-home order: C01 chicken sauté with chong quing red chili, P22 Fried Tofu with assorted meat and seafood vegetables (chicken substitute for pork in my case), B15 beef with Chinese broccoli
Very authentic Chinese cuisine. So authentic that Americanized dishes like general tao chicken are to be avoided here. We had their signature pork dish and a meat/seafood tofu pot and both tasted great. The pieces of tofu were especially delicious - slightly crispy on the outside, delicate and soft on the inside.
Nothing fancy, slow service and far from a good Chinese restaurant in the west
Real gourmet dishes.spiced to your liking. Staff very helpful, constantly checking to see whether everything is OK. Definitely recommended. Inventive and novel fare, prices are reasonable.Worth every visit.
I ate their General Tao Chicken and it was delicious! The portion of the meat and the breading was just right. Goes perfect with white rice. I will go back to this restaurant to try the other dishes.
Really good Chinese restaurant in west island! Delicious food with reasonable prices!
very good food and nice servise west island best chinese food
Great Place
