Order Greek takeaway and delivery , Curbside pickup, don't want to get out of your car, well you don't have to. A runner will bring the food to your car. Dollard-des-Ormeaux
It is a quaint environment. The surrounding bushes and greenery keep it well hidden. Without the GPS I would have passed it. The lunch menu offers a variety of choices for $20. I chose to start with a delicious lentil soup. Lamb chops, accompanied by potatoes and a salad (instead of the rice) was my choice for the main dish.. it was delicious! 😋 Completed with coffee and dessert (carrot cake). If the size of the portions would have been a little larger I would have given them 5 stars. The quantity of food is a personal choice 😀. So you will need to try them for yourself... Enjoy!
I don't understand the bad reviews. This is the wife and I's all time favorite spot. Succulent food cooked to perfection. Bring your own wine. Super reasonably priced for such good food in such a beautiful rustic environment. It's slightly run down, but the prices and yummy food more than compensate for that. Their terrace is lovely as well. Always had nice and fast service. What's not to like??!! I get the impression that you just can't please everyone, especially insolent entitled snobs with deep pockets....
Our favourite spot in Montreal. Go every time we are in town. Love the old house atmosphere! Staff are attentive. The food is exceptional and the quantity is very generous for the cost. We always end up with leftovers. They are known for their lamb chops which are always so flavourful. Tip: the Baklava cheesecake is to die for!! You’d expect it to be super sweet but it’s not and it’s light!!
I dont understand the bad reviews. We had a great dinner there and I loved the rustic feel of this restaurant. The portions were huge, Our waiter was great! I would definitely go back and definitely recommend!
La Porte Greque has to be one of the West Island's top 10 restaurants. Great atmosphere — eclectic to have a Greek/Mediterranean restaurant located in an historic stone house — offering a wide range of Greek dishes that are reasonably prices and plentiful. The only drawback is that La Porte Greque does not have a liquor license and therefore you need to BYOB.
Lots of negative reviews lately sadly have something in common - they’re doing takeout. Unfortunately, takeout from a place like this won’t be too great - it’s the kind of food you need to eat hot and fresh - shrimp, steak, etc. As for my take on this place, I enjoyed the food, the service was absolutely on point and friendlier than most places, and the prices are fair for the rather large portions. Are there better food options around? Sure. But we had zero issues accommodating a large group for a surprise party, and top that with the fact that it’s BYOW, it’s not too shabby. Only negative I’d say is that the decor needs a facelift. There was a rather gross and dirty, uh, sink with random stuff in it? Next to our table. I think it needs some work in thay department. Overall, however, enjoyable.
Best calamari and their lemon - oregano sauce is divine. Just as delicious as always, I had the lamb chops with bacon wrapped scallops which were melt in your mouth amazing.
We love their lunch specials, amazing food with reasonable price! Expect long lines and crowded parking lots, because everyone wants to eat here!! Once they get you a table and get your order, everything would be served quickly! Amazing warm toasts, fresh salad and hot lentil soup, we enjoy all of their main dishes; the ones we always order are chicken brochettes, lamb chops, Montreal’s best calamari, scallops wrapped in bacons! We love their coffee and chocolate cake dessert as well, just enough to fulfill my sweet tooth! Nice ambiance and beautiful stone chalet
It s for the owner if he can increase the heat a bit .. people wana enjoy inside the restaurant else open the terrace we can sit there !!!
Really horrible, I do not recommend this place..very unclean, unclean toilet, food full of sauces, if the cleanliness resembles the entrance carpet and the toilet.....the kitchen must be the same. ** no light to illuminate the builders face
Not too clean carpet and Toilet I hope the kitchen is better too much vinegar in the salad and the front of the restaurant no light we went straight
Very strong musty smell Poorly maintained Sal (dried food on cutlery and plates, tablecloth filled with crumbs), wiped away with a quick hand by the owner in front of us with carelessness.
One of the best greek food restaurants
Great atmosphere, delicious food , generous portions, and amazing service!
Overall pretty good.
An old favorite, but this place needs a health inspection and structural engineer. The building is collapsing, windows and doors don t close. Severe water damage and no repairs in years. Mold and bugs around the windows, and carpet we walked out before they opened the wine.
The food was completely covered in salad dressing. Not just salad but also meat, potatoes, rice. In addition, the cleanliness of the restaurant is non-existent: sticky floors everywhere. The toilets not very clean. The owner seems completely disinterested in his business.
Good atmosphere. Good service. Boof not bad. Need exterior renovations otherwise have a good evening.
Food is just fantastic.
I was worried because of the bad reviews, but pleasantly surprised! The food and portions are excellent. I had the butterfly shrimp and the calamari was to die for! We sat outside ambiance was great with hanging lights. Great experience for a BYOB
For over 30 yrs I ve Love this resto, especially their bacon wrapped scalop brochette with its amazing lemon sauce the salad dressing is a tangy glory and bringing ur wine makes a huge difference on the wallet The terrasse has a european feel & the staff is great All the friends & family I ve brought over the yrs become regulars themselves for the quality of the meal so try it! And enjoy
Excellent cuisine in an enchanting rustic setting.
Went for dinner there last night may 23 within a half an hour of us leaving we both got food poisoning throwing up and more. Watch out! Would never go back there again .
The restaurant is not what it used to be. Prices are ok but portions are relatively smaller. The decor is dated but staff was very nice. Missing that authentic Greek taste and feeling.
Very disappointed with food, food very salty .. will not return .
I have been going to Porte Greque regularly for over 28 years. We always loved it. We are the guest that ran home to get ice on a hot summer day without complaint for our table of 10 and several extra bags as well because there wasnt any left in the restaurant. The ice machine couldnt keep up. However Saturdays take out for 4 was awful. My chicken oregano was chewy. What happened to the lemon sauce? The salad limp and had brown spots. Rice not good. Potatoes ok. Chicken looked like they cut the breast in half it was so small. Very disappointed. If Nick was there I would have taken it back. Miss you Nick.
Food was just ok. The scallops were not real scallops. Lamb chops were fatty, small, tough. Shrimp was mushy. The part of the restaurant we were sitting in was falling down. Windows were tapped, the carpet was stained and sunk, baseboards and blinds were ruined. The place should be closed down for good. The service was good though. Overall i did not enjoy this place at all.
The food was not good at all and chaff was absent so the manager take over at kitchen he did bern the food and was not polite at all he was agressive and pushed my kids he is unbelievable,, we like the place and we go eat there many times but this time not forgettable too bad
Dont go to this restaurant, its so unsanitary
I re-evaluate my comment from time to time, not being able to add more than one. Visit 2024: Disappointed this time: my nieces filet mignon was nothing but tightness and nerves, she only managed to eat 2 mouthfuls. My cousin had lamb chops 1/2 cm (1/5 inch) thin and cooked as hard as boot soles. I find that they have lost some of the quality and cooking of red meats. The Caesar salad was tasteless. Fortunately the rest was good (shrimp, chicken, scallop). Our waitress was rather boring or even depressing. 2022: Always a pleasure to go to this restaurant which has been our favorite in the West Island, for 11 years now. Alex our server on the terrace was very friendly and attentive. Glad to see that this restaurant survived the pandemic. I dont give 5 stars because there is always room for improvement (bread not very tasty, aging solarium is sinking into its foundations) But never mind, we will come back again and again for the chicken, shrimp, squid, scallops, vinaigrette, filet mignon etc.
Charming restaurant. The scallop brochette was good.
Decent lunch menu!
Long time favorite! Nice place to go when you want to linger over your wine and catch up with friends.
Love this place. Havent been for supper in years but lunch for I think $12.95 With soup or salad, and coffee or desert not many places can match. And quality food. Not crazy about the quail though. Basically just bones but thats probably just quail... April 2024 Went in again today with a buddy Probably will be the last. Service was ok despite being a rather slow. After ordering and finishing our soup and bottle of wine, i had enough time to get to the convenience store to pick up a couple of beers and back before lunch arrived. Price is up from $12.95 or do to $30. The waiter is the cook, nobody in the kitchen had a chicken brochette which was essentially chicken and a whole lot of onion. 2 pieces of greek potato and rice. Certainly not what it once was. Either increase the price, or cut the portions. Don t do both
Great hold school restaurant
As always, very tasty food and not expensive
Food is good but long wait.
TLDR: Absolutely disgusting place. Filthy, unsanitary restaurant, and mediocre food. Avoid. Full review: La Porte Grecque is an absolutely disgusting place. It is the most revolting restaurant I have ever been to - and Ive been to some pretty bad restaurants in developing countries. This one beats them all - everything was filthy and unsanitary. We had dinner there with a group of 14 (including four small children) last weekend and we were actually shocked at how gross it was. Several of us had driven a long time from out of town so we decided to stick around and eat there anyway - what a mistake. We were seated upstairs where it is dark and carpeted. The stairs and carpet were black and sticky everywhere, as if they had never been vacuumed or washed. There was dust on every surface, cobwebs in the corners, old rotting food on the floor, in the corners, and under the tables. There was a large open garbage can in the corner that stank. The chairs were dirty and sticky. The menus were dirty. Even the salt and pepper shakers on every table were filthy, with grime, grease, dried sauce on every single one that I picked up. The windows were dirty, and even the light switches and heating controls were brown with years of accumulated dirt. The emergency exit door upstairs was taped shut, lots of pink fiberglass insulation was coming out of the frame around the door, and the door handle itself was broken. Six of the 14 people in our group are vegetarian so I asked about veg options. The waiter said, Sorry, we dont have any veg options, to which I replied, what about the spanakopita?. He realized his mistake and said, Oh, yeah, I guess thats vegetarian, we can make it a platter for you. We thanked him and thats what we ordered. The non-veg meals all arrived a good 30 minutes before ours so everyone else was finished by the time we got our veg meals...and they were not good. Wilted salad with a watery creamy dressing, undercooked parboiled rice, mushy, sour-tasting spanakopita and bland potatoes, all tossed in a heap on the plate. We ate quickly and got ready to leave. To top it all off: there is one small washroom downstairs, and it looked like it hadnt been cleaned in weeks - actual layers of urine, feces, hair and dirt on the urinal, toilet, walls, sink - quite horrific. The dirtiest bathroom I have every seen, much dirtier than any backwoods gas station public bathroom I have ever visited. I mentioned it to the three staff who were at the front reception area and asked them to clean it. I explained that we had young children with us who would need the bathroom, and little kids tend to touch everything. When my toddler had to use the bathroom, I checked first and it had not been cleaned. I had to insist that someone come in with some rags to at least wipe down some surfaces. The youngest one there grabbed some rags, came in, said wow, thats bad, sorry about that!, quickly wiped down the toiled while gagging, apologized again and ran out. Everything else was still filthy so I basically had to hold my kid up while he went to the bathroom. At the end, the waiter asked me how everything was. I told him that the service was ok, but the food was not good and the place was revolting. I told them that they needed to get a cleaning crew in asap. He apologized, and told me that the wait staff have mentioned this to the owners several times, but they just dont care. The place is always packed because its cheap and its a bring your own wine restaurant, so they are making lots of money and they wont do anything about it. La Porte Grecque was already fined twice by the city of Montreal for unsanitary and unhygienic practices. Im surprised they arent fined every year and that their restaurant license isnt suspended. If the owners dont care about how gross the publicly accessible spaces are, I can only imagine what a horror show the kitchen must be. Avoid at all costs. This vile place should be shut down.
Very nice discovery, very good service, good atmosphere and very good food, we will definitely come back
Excellent service and food made for a pleasant evening Parking: Pavement like many badly potholed roads Food : 4/5 |
As always, tasty food, nice atmosphere and very professional and friendly service. I went there on December 30th, and I had Cesar Salad, calamri, and Origano Chicken. Everything was excellent and very tasty. All people with me appreciated their choices, too. We were sitting upstairs. It was the 1st time for me to be sitting upstairs, I liked it a lot, very nice and cozy . Our server was an excellent young man, very dynamic, professional, nice, and friendly.
Very rude employee. Not good for business. Should change their hours of operations at the door because they don t reflect the real time
Everything was fine except for the hot pikilia it was breaded fried and had absolutely no taste. I recommend the cold one which has the cheese, spinach pie and other delicious Greek specialties. Other than that we always come out of the restaurant content.
Its a small place if you go in groups.
This quaint, almost institution has been on Sources for decades...in the same old, stone farm house. The restaurant has expanded over the years and is a bit of a hodge podge, with the main central dining area surrounded in the original stone with wood paneling trim and the an newer addition that does not exactly fit with the interior theme...which is very cozy. The menu offers all the typical Greek offerings although the menu itself is not as plentiful as other similar cuisines around Montreal. For our meal we had the Lentil Soup (very good), the Spanikopita (excellent...terrific filo and spinach pastry), the Taramosalata (also excellent) and the Oregano Chicken Filet (very good...with well marinated chicken breast although the portion of roasted potatoes could have been larger...but this is a very minor complaint). The only downside was the baklava dessert. When discussing it with our server (who was excellent, by the way), he acknowledge that it was not made in house until the rest of our food. So, it was clear, that their home made dishes are very good...just ask before ordering. Enjoy!
Delicious and lots of it!
Great Evening
Best food vs value. I had lamb chops. Delicious and big portion. Food
Good portion of dishes. The dishes are not hot On the other hand, the servers are not very smiling Cold reception The utensils should be changed the fork no longer sticks to the food. I receive my plate with a knife that doesnt cut I ask to have a real knife, I am told here we just have fake knives... instead of having a steak knife that cuts.
Delicious
The food was excellent and the service too +++
Excellent.
The food was very salty . Waiters gave very bad service ( late , not come to ask what missing , what we need) . I could say this place is not the same as before.
This used to be our absolute favorite restaurant in the west island, but the quality of the food has unfortunately gone down. It was my friend s birthday. The chicken brochettes were very salty and we couldn t eat the dishes. As we complained, they told us sorry, nobody has complained about that . I explained it is my friend s birthday and it s not happen again. I found it s very unprofessional and rude as your clients satisfaction needs to be the priority. The manager needs to change her strategies to provide the clients needs. I will not go there anymore. Parking: There was no spot in the parking lot.
Very Unsatisfactory Service. Even bread and water were not provided at the customers request. The food was very salty and inedible. When we asked them to remedy the poor quality of the food, they refused and behaved very disrespectfully.
I will never recommend to others the service was very unsatisfactory. The food was very salty and inedible. When we asked them to fix the bad quality food, they refused and were very disrespectful. They turned a friendly night into a bad memory for me and my friends.
I won t recommend this restaurant We had ordered chicken brouchette but it was salty and when we talked to manager about the quality , they only said that they are sorry about it . That would be the first and last time I would go to this restaurant.
This was one of my favourite places to go to and I would always recommend it to my friends and family but my last experience was probably a traumatic one. As the service was bad they didn t bring the famous garlic bread, water as it is supposed to be brought every once in a while wasn t being done either, and on top of all this if we bring cake they make you charge fees per slice they cut. Absolute scam I should say. Also when our main dishes came it was so salty none of us could even swallow without a sip of water. We talked to the person in charge of the restaurant and they said this is the way it is here not even mentioning that they are sorry for the bad experience they ve given. Thus said i do not recommend this place unfortunately as it was one of the best restaurants before, today it is not.
About this restaurant ,I would say it was not my first time I was there but definitely was my last time ! Unfortunately, the food quality and service was really poor! We ordered chicken brochette, but when it came was so salty and inedible! We complained to the waitress and manager but nothing changed and they didn t care about what we said ! Not recommend this place at all !
The food was too salty to eat. Also, our food was not served at the same time and we could not enjoy our food together and we had a birthday to celebrate. Do not recommend!! Parking: There was no parking spot for us and our friends.
We were in the first room when we entered and we froze our lives. Ive never seen a restaurant like this :(
The food was good. The problem is that we reserved tables for a birthday so they put us in a room that was not heated We were complaining that we are freezing and of course, there was no solution as there was no other room to move. Food
Excellent gyros. Fried calamari are also very good.
Avoid to order from this place. we order various plates that come with salad. The salad was literally frozen, not eatable at all. I believe the food order by Uber or online is not as good as what is served at the restaurant. See the pictures, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers all frozen.
Cold/frozen food and unwashed cutlery our last two visits. We will not go back. Our entire family have been supporting Porte Grecque for decades and used to love it there. My girlfriend and I had dinner at this once fine establishment this past summer, we ordered the chicken trio combo (chicken, shrimps, scallops), and the food came cold... not room temperature but rather fridge cold.... In fact, the scallops were even a little frozen. We were sure that it was a one-off negative experience (perhaps new chefs in training, etc) so decided to give it another try last night but unfortunately, we had the same experience.... cold/frozen food... On top of that, all of the cutlery and bread plates were not washed... colored sauce stains... we asked our waitress to please replace these for us and she returned with what appeared to be clean cutlery but the replacement plates were clearly still unwashed... we were already turned off much before our food arrived.... Our waitress swung by to ask us how our meals were, so we explained the situation to her and let her know that we are very easy customers but that this was the second time back to back that we are experiencing cold/frozen food. No manager came to see us... and when it came time to pay, there was no discount offered or any effort to help correct the situation. We took the food home and warmed it up in the microwave so that it would be eatable. Warning to all supporters, Porte Grecque is not what it used to be for MANY years. Not even close.....
Llooks big plates for your money, but is only for image. Example, for salade, is using big leafs, but you take twice from the plate and is empty.
Had a birthday party with over 20 people and they sat us in the solarium part. It was -12C outside and it was almost as cold inside. Wound up eating my dinner with my coat on. Everybody was making comments about how cold we were. This should not be a sitting area in the winter. Very disappointed! I ordered the filet mignon medallions with shrimp and they did not cook the meat enough. Rare when I asked for medium well (I know that its usually undercooked so I was expecting medium). Had to argue to get the bill corrected. Hadnt been in years and will not go again
I hadnt been in a while and I was worried after reading some of the recent reviews. It was as delicious as it ever was. Service was excellent. Ill be back soon.
TLDR: Overpriced, so-so food. I do not recommend Had very high expectations when I went here and was so let down. The food quality was sub-par. The only thing that was good was the main meat on the plate. All the sides, entree etc... were not good at all. Very disappointed especially for the price. I would not go back there ever.
Unfortunately, cooking food is very unpredictable, which can cause both good and bad surprises.
Had a family dinner. The food was what you would expect from a grec place. The waitress was kind. The place was not busy. Everyone s food was good except one of the plates was a little burnt. The dessert options were delicious.
Came here after a long time and it felt like old times! Food was great, service was great, and the atmosphere was just right. Can t understand why so many negative reviews lately, we ordered a lot of food and really enjoyed.
Tasty quick Greek food
The food is very good but there is a false expectation of certain things that are on the menu but are no longer served.
Needs an update. Reasonable prices but very greasy food.
Excellent service! Great place to eat!
Very good! Generous portions. Very busy.
Run down , smelled musty, crooked floors, sticky chairs and spider webs. Wish I could add a picture! Stay away
They had allot of people to keep track of, and serve. However they provided good service, and food came fast, and was delicious Food
It was my one of the best restaurants in several years. I think it has a new owner I went this week very very disappointed the food changed taste the scallops were overcooked the property and the cleanliness leaves much to be desired Andrew
I was a bit disappointed this time, so I hope it s one time bad off!! The chicken was over cooked and dry.. even the signature dish with the scallops and bacon also overcooked and dry.. will give you another chance because all other food and salads were good. However, the restaurant needs a serious cleanup (carpets, bathrooms, etc..), guys you have to do something.. it doesn t reflect good hygiene!!
Lunch only by reservation if u call dont pick up I think this family has gone nuts after covid lunch menu from 12$ to 20$ god bles them
Very bad food, very bad customer service.
Wheelchair accessibility: Good Food
We were a group of friends meeting for lunch and all of us enjoyed our meals. The grilled lamb chops were deliciously seasoned and the oregano chicken was juicy and tender. The salad portion was generous with a very flavourful dressing. Service was attentive and very pleasant. We will definitely return.
Went in for dinner last night, ordered chicken brochette and the scallop brochette. Lo and behold the brochette does not include tzatziki and further more, Boston blue fish roll ups passing as scallops. Good thing is they were wrapped in over cooked bacon.Burnt potatoes.Garlic bread in a Greek restaurant really? Creamy Italian dressing on the salad. This is not the porte qreque I remember. We are not going back. Patrick our waiter was prompt and attentive
This place used to be a hidden gem, now the food and service is horrible. I dont know if they changed management? Either way AVOID.
Always satisfied. Delicious food, excellent service. THANKS.
Service is slow, mixed up orders, forgot appetizers. Probably tough to get staff these days.
Delicious lunch
If google would allow it I d give zero stars. Nothing to recommend this establishment, restaurant was dirty, food was over cooked and tasteless. Wanted to walk out as soon as we seated but my dining companions were too embarrassed to do so.
Loved eating out on the patio beneath the trees. Food was great and prices very reasonable. Staff went out of their way to help and fulfill requests. Definitely recommend this restaurant! Food
My FAVOURITE restaurant, and thats no exaggeration. Charming atmosphere, excellent service, BYOW, and the food is always outstanding. Seriously, every dish Ive ever tried is incredible.
Food and service were good (actually the waiter was excellent) BUT they give too much food. It is a shame so much gets thrown away. I bring home what I cannot eat but not everyone does this. Portions should be smaller, in my opinion.
July 2023 visit: Bad boy mixed grill was perfect, especially the lamb. Calamari was good especially the sauce, wish they still included the tentacles like they used to though. Baklava cheesecake is always a nice mix of textures. Pecan pie was too much sugar filling and not enough pecans. Menu is a weird mix of fonts with no descriptions which is disappointing since its now in an easily editable format. Our waitress was great and friendly, but the manager was not accommodating at all. He just kinda came and stared at us until we said we had a reservation, my mother tried to say hi since shes a regular and she was ignored. Old review: Best Greek restaurant in the West island, especially with BYOW. Quality has gone down over the past decades unfortunately, but the portions and prices are still relatively reasonable. The sauce on their calamari is great, and their grilled foods are flavourful.
For the many years Ive been enjoying this restaurant, I can assure you everything on their menu is very good, great service, cozy, atmosphere outside during summer time. Reservations a must ! However a few weeks in the eara spontaneously....their was 1 table !! so see for yourself and enjoy ! Cheers !
Has already been one of my favorite restaurants. But everything has changed. The restaurant is in ruins. The terrace side wall is falling. The windows no longer close. The menus are dirty. The toilets are not maintained. Yesterday I went there and it will be the last time... The waitress was stupid and she came to see us 15 minutes after we were seated because I went to ask for a wine bucket. I couldnt finish speaking when she cut me off by stupidly telling me to wait a minute. But it had been 15 minutes since we arrived. The waitress was alone to serve the entire restaurant on a Tuesday evening. So the service was very long. Filet mignon which should have been medium rare was WAY overcooked and not edible. Around 8:30 a.m. the manager or owner (not sure), sat near our table with a laptop and was watching a film or video game while the waitress was alone. So NOT professional! Nothing positive to say (apart from the squid which is delicious) about this restaurant which was once popular. I think this restaurant needs new administration.
Fantastic lamb. The sole is also quite reputable. Great service from the staff. Warm and welcoming. One star off for the dirty bathroom.
Good little restaurant.
This place used to be good so a group of 12 of us got together and went for dinner. It had been several years since any of us had been there. I dont like giving only one star but unfortunately the experience was not good. The waitress was nice but alone and a bit overworked. She did the best she could. (It was a Tuesday evening.) We ordered appetizers and meals. The appetizers came fairly quickly and were good. Two of us also got our meals quite quickly. The rest however had a long wait. It took over an hour after the appetizers for the rest of the meals to come... long after the first two had finished eating. Beyond that, the rice and veggies were very tasty. The meat however was burnt. We ordered many different dishes in the group, including some filet mignons, brochets and chops. ALL of the meats were burnt. Further, it turned out that at least 4 of us came down with cases of food poisoning 36 hours later. Of course I cant say if it was the restaurant, coincidence or something else, but we are from different households and the issues were simultaneous. Unfortunately, La Porte Grecque is now off our list of places to go.
Dont judge a book by its cover, the food was delicious
Just left this restaurant we were celebrating a special birthday 15 girls the waiter were very friendly and helpful food was ok how ever the restaurant need a complete makeover the ladies bathroom was disgusting the carpet was ripped a d very dangerous we sat out side the tablecloths need updating the blue chairs were very uncomfortable the restaurant needs a face lift , we will Not Be returning or recommend this restaurant.
Over salted, anglicized, sour sauce on everything, burnt meat, the saganaki was laughable. NOT greek authentic, terrible food, not fresh, and probably heated from frozen
Absolutely disgusting - the floor is carpet and it s stickier than any movie theatre floor i have ever been in. Ripped tablecloths, cobwebs, duct tape holding up power cords to speakers. The cutlery at our table was filthy and stained. We had heard good things and stayed hoping the food would be worth the dining experience. It was not. Slimy Caesar salad, overcooked chicken, poorly butterflied shrimps. The rice was practically pudding (and it was cold). Completely gross. We ate a few bites and decided to simply pay and quietly leave. Will never go back, would recommend avoiding. Surely there s another, cleaner restaurant where one can bring one s own wine??
Nothing here to recommend filthy sticky carpet, disgustingly dirty washrooms etc..Food ok..overall disappointing experience due to cleanliness of the environment ; Bravo to the waiters who hustled to provide good service, which they did ..There are many other Greek restaurants to go to a must skip.
The food was delicious, but it took 90 minutes to get our food for a table of 8. They were severely understaffed, and i realize that it wasnt the waitresses fault. She did her best and was tipped appropriately. Management needs to add more staff.
Asked for extra 3 small pieces of potatoes, charges $10
2 stars for their full plate and good taste and fair price. But for the general appearance it seems abandoned when we arrived we werent sure if it was open we were on the terrace inside the wall is after collapsing never seen the carpets also in the room the chair stuck to it I wouldnt go back there
Super good!
No complaints nice place good portions I will return.
Always a great time!
Ishh floor sticky and dirty a chance that the food was good but still unbelievable that the cleaning is not done
I forgot this place was BYOB so if you want to drink then prep ahead of time. They had a variety of sodas but no coke for some reason. Service was excellent, no complaints there. A few small mistakes were made but thats to be expected with a big group. They were easily and smoothly resolved. Food was not as excellent as I remember, and a smaller menu (possibly again because of our large group). Food was good all the same, and there was so much of it! I got a lentil soup appetizer and BadBoy grill mix. I had a full lunch for the next day in leftovers and so did four other people at my table. Not only are the prices reasonable, but leftovers too The atmosphere is wonderful! Just be warned if youre a large group youll probably be seated upstairs which has low beams on the ceiling and is a fairly small space. So when the other table got seated we had to raise our voices to hear each other, but still managed fine. Overall, I had a wonderful evening and am definitely planning on going again, maybe alone next time.
Super good and good service
A nice quiet place to enjoy lunch with your sweetie.
The food was decent with a generous serving. The reason for the poor review is that the restaurant does not have a changing table for infants. They have high chairs but we were caught by surprise when we went to change a diaper and the waitress informed us that they had no change table. This dosent leave parents with much options. We had no choice but to go outside to our car in the unlit dark parking lot in the cold to change a diaper. This is a family restaurant and folding change tables installed in washrooms are not expensive. Considering the age, popularity of this restaurant and the prices charged, there should absolutely be this ammenity. Not having one is the equivalent of not offering washrooms to patrons.
The food was good.. but Way too hot inside. The bathroom.. wow!!! Dont know what happened in there!!
Was a unique fun experience! Rustic old home is the setting. The service is great, food was good, we were on the second floor where you can see the place has history. I would go back.
Wow, I love this place, the quality of their food and service is amazing
They dont know the first thing about accommodating a large group. Especially one where children are present Vegetarian options: Not very many choices for vegetarians unless you include salad Dietary restrictions: There is actually no special meals for diabetics. Parking: Plenty of parking in the back Kid-friendliness: They need to learn a little about the dos and donts with kids instead they turn a gang of them into wild untamable beasts
It is great food for a very reasonable price
great place and delicious food.
Its not what it once was! Portion of starving starters! The main course always relies on the overabundance of rice and potatoes And the prices exploded Very average!
When you order food you expect it to be safe, please do not put your customers at risk the lettuce has slime the steak is purple and ice cold in the middle this restaurant poses significant health risks check everything. I reached out to the manager by phone at 6:10 PM on Thursday they do not want to even see the photos privately by email or consider trying to fix the order .
Quality has taken a sharp decline since the reopening Ive been ordering almost twice a week from this restaurant previously and Ive watched as the quality and the portion sizes have gotten smaller ... tonight was maybe the last time I will be ordering from them my order arrived late although my delivery driver was waiting at the restaurant earlier then expected and I received wilted lettuce that was browned and undercooked steak and bacon I am terribly disappointed.
Nice spot when you re craving Greek food although 2 things. Their lamb chops could have been cooked more and go easy on the salt for the potatoes! Tried moussaka for the first time and it s pretty good! The rice was yummy, lentil soup had a nice kick to it and amazing garlic bread that I even asked for a second rack lol!
Rice not fresh overcooked meat burnt fries
I definitely recommend.
The food was amazing and our waiter was so professional and kind.
The food is delicious, the staff is super friendly. Good value for the price as well. Cute little cabin feel to the dining room. Would definitely recommend!
Generous portion
Its ok,but staff is not very professional.
I visited this place for the first time with a friend. Excellent food, wonderful ambience, welcoming staff and price is reasonable too. Look forward to visiting again when I travel Montreal in the future!!
Good courteous service. Good portion on the plates and always fresh
Once again this restaurant disappoints! Service sucks, food is terrible and flexibility is never an option. Only good thing is it s a byob.
I remember when La Porte Grecque was the best they have steadily declined in quality over the last few months and today Is the last time Ill order it I have watched the portion sizes of the steak shrink and the prices go up but the one thing they never disappointed on was the calamari, today I received this ... if I wanted maxi branded calamari I would have air fried it myself 80$ of delivery down the drain.
Very rich and abundant dishes, to share. And you can bring your bottle of wine which makes it very economical!!!!
Good food. Decent prices but service isnt great. The weekends are very crowded and noisy and the waits are long for a table. This is an old restored house and the floors are very squeaky and vibrate when staff walks around which can be very annoying depending on where you are sitting. Also there are many items on the menu that are never available. UPDATE: went back last week and quality has gone down. Wont be going back.
On the outdoor terrace, wife and I both ordered the Greek Calamari appetizer and chicken oregano for the main meal. I was concerned about the negative comments but so happy I tried it. They have really stepped up their game; everything was perfect and no words can accurately describe it except to say, YOU MUST TRY! .
Awesome.food.and great value
Food and service was wonderful as always
Delicious dinner! Started with fried calamari then moussaka and the village plate. Huge portions including salad, rice and wonderful Greek potatoes. All served by an excellent efficient friendly waiter. A great meal in a cozy setting and best of all, very reasonably priced and bring your own wine! A return visit for sure!
Tiny shrimps a real shame
You have to bring, they dont have wine but the food is very good
This used to be our absolute favorite restaurant in the west island, but the quality of the food has unfortunately gone down, the portion sizes gone down and the prices gone up. Im not sure if the management has changed but the service tonight was particularly bad. There was a mixup with our takeout order and we were missing some things from one plate; it happens, I get it. The manager patronized me by saying so you were just missing 3 shrimp and 3 scallop? For a 27$ plate YES! I was missing them. I got a 15$ refund when I decided to call back for the second time after 2 hours just before closing time. The manager doesnt really seem to understand what customer service means. To make my life easier I took the suggested refund but will definitely never return.
Very good food and ambience, not too pricey either and you can bring your own wine.
This place needs some upgrading. Service was rough and was not impressed by the food.
Great food and service,
Disappointment . We liked a small restaurant but had not returned for several years. We went for dinner yesterday but were disappointed in every way very ordinary service: they brought us a bottle of water but no glasses! The waitress doesnt come back so we go get glasses ourselves! I order a squid starter but no sauce: I get it with sauce.. Platter of bacon-wrapped scallops; the bacon is so fried its almost burnt. I ask if it is possible to have a Greek salad as an accompaniment and it is no longer possible (either garden salad or potatoes and rice). I therefore choose potatoes and rice but I receive the salad once again, the waitress does not come back to check if everything is ok The chicken and filet mignon combo plate was good but the sausage starter was really salty It s not like it was before and we re not going back.
Ambiance was very welcoming. Service efficient. Food was nice. Moussaka was lighter than Im accustomed to, which is refreshing, but the flavour needs to evolve.
So sad to see the lows this once-wonderful family restaurant has reached. Let me start with the food which was less than mediocre. Entrées and other items in the mains are clearly store-bought and ready-made like the butterfly shrimp and clearly-fake scallops. Most of our mains seemed unfresh, precooked, reheated, and barely warm, with the exception of the calamari which was chewy. 2 members of my party received their butterfly shrimps still cold and had to send them back. Chewy, luke-warm lamb chops and potatoes. The ambiance: awful. The first thing I noticed walking in was the musty smell of the extra-old, juicy carpet that desperately needs to be replaced. The entire evening was spent listening the an on-and-off radio station playing movie soundtrack music, which went from Heigh-Ho Heigh-Ho Its off to work we go (Snow White and the seven dwarves), to You could be mine by GnR (Terminator 2), to the instrumental theme of Schindlers List. Of the 2 stars I give, one is to our waiter which was excellent, the other to the fact that Ive not gotten ill from the food I ate, as I was anticipating. Ive been returning to this restaurant for over 30 years, for family events, dates, or just with the boys. Pretty sure this was the last. Truely sad.
Not what it used to be.
My first (and most likely last) time at this place. I gave 1 star for the food (good) and 1 for the price (acceptable). However, we were seated without notice on the second floor with an extremely large & loud group who didn t care about people around. The minimum management should have done is advise us about the presence of this group upon making the reservation. They didn t. Then on site we waited for over 1 hour 15 minutes to get our food. This whole time being with 3 children and that crazy group of people chatting & laughing like they re in a bar / in their place. Hell. Then our food came with mistakes, etc. Horrible. My friend asked 2 times to see the manager who didn t show up. Anyways, that was it for me. Porte grecque, I m walking out your door. You won t see me again.
Great food, excellent service and a very warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Food not great, overcooked and tasteless. One of the worst Greek restaurants I ve been. We were a groupe with a réservation way I m advance and we were not even all seated together. Restaurant was very hot with no air, everyone was uncomfortable during the meal. Server was nice but we had the basic minimum service.
Parking: Gets a bit tight during busy times. Food
Not very nice restaurant anymore unfortunately... The heat wasnt working where we sat tonight and we basically had to eat with our jackets and hats on it was so cold. My kids were freezing.. The quality of the food is ok but not the best. It used to be a 5 star for me. Not anymore... One more note... Good luck finding parking here. The parking lot is atrocious.. cars piled on top of each other. We parked off property to avoid damage to our car.
Usually a great restaurant but the food that night was not as good as it usually is. Parking is always a struggle. Affordable and bring your own wine.
