We have super fresh sushi, Japanese cuisine and authentic Korean food, ready to satisfy anyone's taste. Take out/Dine in available. Visit our website for Online ordering.
Portions are way too small. Spent $30 something on takeout only to find that the sashimi that I paid $17 for consists of 8 paper thin slices and the fried noodles are appetizer-size at best. Ended up having to buy food elsewhere because I was still hungry afterwards
the chicken teriyaki bowl is one of the best values I've seen. $15 and you get a huge amount of chicken, and it comes with miso soup. The food tastes good, I'm happy
The sushi and sashimi portions were the smallest I've seen on the Island, yet the prices were comparable to those in most good sushi restaurants. The miso soup bowl was only half full… The fish was fresh though.
I know I should not compare meaty Chinese dumplings to a first time experience with Korean gyoza as these might be perfect exemplars of those, but my first reaction was “where’s the beef?” The rest of our purchases were fine examples of typical Japanese food as made in North America.
Wonderful place to have a lunch here while some of places (not fastfood) close on Monday. Thank you to operate on Monday! Their combos are really good with options to pick 4 more items. I’m satisfied with the food and service. Good job and keep it up.
One of the top best Sushi restaurant in Duncan. Excellent sushi and tempura, the california rolls and dynamite roll lunch combo is my children's favorite. It consistently delivers quality excellent food, great friendly fast service, at a great price. Thank you to the owner who makes these delicious Sushi along with his wife in the kitchen. 🌸🌻🌸
If I could give them zero stars, I would. I ordered takeout and tried to call it in-they didn’t answer so I was forced to order and pay online. The online order time said it would be ready at 6:36, I was waiting another 15 minutes after that given time while they weren’t even busy. Very unorganized. The server almost had me pay for it twice because she couldn’t pay attention to the fact I had already paid for it. The pictures speak for themselves. The deep fried California roll looks like they were fried an hour ago, and my negitoro roll was destroyed as soon as I opened the takeout container. Can’t believe this place gets 4.4 stars. Glad I’m just passing through town and won’t have to subjected to our seeing from this place ever again.
It’s been a while since our first visit and we shouldn’t have waited so long. Prompt, polite, clean, welcoming and of course great portion to price value sums up Japan Town. I’m a big fan of their new supper combos for only $9.95 especially since one of them includes Monkey Brain. We will back again as our choice for sushi in Duncan.
Fresh, amazing, best on the island.
hate this place to go away, might be closing down, i love this place so much
Create your own bento combination by choosing from a good selection of sushi, sashimi, rolls, tempura, teriyaki and other main dishes. Prices are very reasonable and staff is friendly and fast.
Favorite restaurant in Duncan! Amazing sushi, katsu, bulgari, etc. Staff are incredibly helpful if youre not familiar with Japanese/Korean dishes, and very helpful regarding modifications. Ive been coming here for 7 years now, often every week. Ive never had a bad order or dish, and any possible issues are easily fixed with no complaints. Highly reccomend to beginners or novice fans of Japanese or Korean food. (Id also kill for your guys miso recipe! Ive never found any as amazing as yours, its addicting.)
I love the monkey brain! It is my favourite place to go to eat.
Excellent food with very generous portions!
The sushi was so fresh, well made and delicious! Get the French Kiss Roll, you can thank me later.
Best sushi in duncan
Great food, awesome service. Restaurant needs a bit of a facelift.
Was surprisingly quiet for how good the food was. Appreciated the atmosphere.
Yakisoba could use a bit more sauce, other than that really good and friendly staff! Kid-friendliness: Staff was very kind! Gave me free miso soups with my takeout when it took a bit long.
Tuna on rolls looked and tasted like a mystery puréed substance,. Everything was not great. Miso was the only thing good about entire meal. For price and quality I wouldn t ever go back or reccomend
We love Japan Town. Only place in town we get sushi! Kid-friendliness: Great staff that are always friendly
Excellent Service Food was Amazing Food
Delicious! Fresh and yummy
Dope sushi
Came to have Mother s Day lunch with the family, the only sushi place we ve never tried in town. Walked in the door, signs on that they are open and they said they were closing for an hour. Turned away an entire family when there s nothing on here that says you re closed from 3-4? Not a good first impression at all. Thanks we ll take our business elsewhere
Sushi is good and the pricing is relatively reasonable. Only issue we have experienced is every time we have ordered take out we have had to wait 30+ min longer than the time we were told, so we will have to plan for that if we order again. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian platter is enjoyed by my son who isnt into fish as much as the rest of the family.
You were my favourite, but not today. Chef was listening to a loud podcast in Korean, it was very annoying. Food was not fresh or tasty, I had the Monkey Brains Combo, sashimi was frozen on bean sprouts. I wished I had not stopped for lunch. Thursday July 27 12:00pm
Super fresh. My favorite.
Amazing quality sushi!
Great little sushi shop.
Food was ok. Very, very poor service.
Great food and service. Highly recommend
The rudest server I ever met. If you had a bad day, dont try to ruin your customers day as well. The food was ok, but take more than 40 minutes, and they were cold. Will not going back or recommend to anyone.
Had the Teriyaki chicken was excellent.
Awesome food great lunch deals eat there at least once a week friendly staff never a bad meal
Really nice. We had take out and it was really fresh and we really enjoyed it. Will be going back for sure.
Very expensive and disappointing
Good value! Friendly staff. Will return.
I ve really enjoyed everything I ve ordered here. I like their lunch special bentos where you can pick and choose what you want. Great sushi!
Just moved to Duncan and I ve been on the hunt for amazing ramen. Unfortunately the ramen here is subpar, the tonkotsu broth is decent, egg is way over cooked, and I know the pork traditionally isn t crispy, but I asked for extra extra extra crispy pork and most of it fat. For the price point of $19 I expect my requests on the cook of the meat be correct.
Best sushi in Duncan!
not fresh at all.. they make tempura with stale veggies. why did i trust that Bullllshxt review
Nice place and great food.
Best meal I ve had out in the last year in Duncan. Sushi rolls are astoundingly fresh, wontons light and full of fresh garlic, jabchae loaded with tender beef and fresh veggies. Even the side of ginger was crunchy and fresh. Perfect meal! Will be back again and again.
We eat here or get take out when craving Japanese. The last time with take out though, it was not great. Chicken in the teriyaki meal was dry (seemed like it was leftovers recooked), skimpy on the avocado for the monkey brain and tempura was soggy. It seemed like everything we ordered just wasnt how it used to be. New owners? Will most likely try another place next time.
So accommodating for families and custom orders! Very friendly service and great sushi!
Weve been coming here for years, will not come again. The quality of the cuisine has dropped like a rock down an empty well. Everything has been made smaller, or cheapened in some other way. There is no longer much value for money spent. Sad to say, but true.
The pork kastu was crispy and tender. The amount of rice was the perfect amount. I had the deep fried spicy tuna roll and it had the level of heat I prefer. Polite and friendly wait staff. Definitely look forward to eating here again.
I work for doordash and I go here alot so Id say there good is awesome for sure
Service was great! We ordered both a sushi platter and a Korean dish. Both were very tasty. Prices are average.
The best sushi on The Island! Fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced. Try the Monkey Brain!
Meh
Spicy and flavorful and substantial. Had the lunch combo. Great variety of choices.
Best sushi in town! Sushi is super fresh, the man behind the counter and everyone there is super friendly!
Really, really good food! Super fresh and delicious, some of the best sushi Ive had. Love that you can place your order and pay online, makes picking up such a simple process! So glad we tried this place. Have ordered several times and we havent been disappointed so far!
Excellent.
Fantastic value and excellent flavors. Great server too...full package ! Best in Duncan.
Tasty and fresh sushi.
Why would anyone put soy packs in the food. Also the amount of wasabi is ridiculous for paying almost 40$
They have a separate menu that you can create your own Bento box. Very good value. Friendly staff and great food
We stop here often for the lunch combo! They close at 3 for an hour break so make sure you arrive before then! Great service and fresh food!
Amazing food! The pictures of the 1 star rating look just as delicious as when I pick up my orders all the time. Try calling back they are always busy!
We decided to give it a try because we love sushi and are in from put of province on vacation. They didnt get our order correct, they didnt bring out 2 items that we ordered, waitress was un attentive and rude. She decided to give us our bill before my dad even got his meal the way he ordered it ( had to send it back) and was sweeping the floor near our table while we were eating ...... terrible flavor , not fresh We will never be back.
Extremely slow service that is reflected by the shortage of staff. One waitress for the whole restaurant and she locked to be a school aged family member. She was trying her best but was totally overwhelmed. Even the cook staff was trying to help her as food was being served cold as it would sit on the counter for 15 minutes before it got to the table.
Excellent varied menu for any dietary preference. As a vegan family we were so happy with all of the choices available to us including tempura. Our waitress was very attentive and made it a wonderful dining experience for the kids (special plates, cups etc). Highly recommend this restaurant!
Japan Town is my go-to for lunch or dinner when I find myself in Duncan. Their sushi is delicious and fresh, and the menu is large enough to accomodate a variety of tastes. Ive been here many times, and Ive never been disappointed with the quality, service, or experience that this restaurant has offered me. The staff is very kind and attentive to your needs.
I love the sushi here and their other food choices, like the chicken katsu, dumplings, stir fry. Always quick, fresh and hot. Love their green tea and miso soup as well. Great deals on combos!
The food was good and the waitress was very nice. The atmosphere here is a little warmer and cozier than most places in Duncan and the monkey brain was a little spicier than average which I am not into (but it still tasted excellent.) The deluxe sashimi I had here was also good.
The service is wonderful and presentation is great. The food was just pretty good, but I may be spoiled with the selection in Vancouver. I ordered the Chirashi Don and negitoro roll and wasnt too impressed, though it wasnt bad at all. It is definitely a great local sushi joint who treats their customers well.
Great food, fair prices, wonderful staff, and very accommodating to families and vegan/vegetarians!
Great food and service as well
Staff was friendly but the spicy tuna roll was inedible. Ive never had a spicy tuna roll so bad- it was chunky and we both thought it was canned tuna.
Good sushi
Great food great servers I come here to spoil myself occasionally and the food is always great.
Very kind server. Good sushi. The menu inside has changed and is different from the one online. Prices have gone up and there are no longer combo specials.
Amazing service and great sushi.
Very courteous, helpful friendly, clean and delicious food.
So good. Great bento,s
Went for a drive to Duncan from Nanaimo and found this place. Will be making the drive again. My daughter and I love sushi and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and added to the experience. I would go back because of the great service. Wish I caught her name cause Id give her a shout out for a job well done. The food was fantastic, great selection and the prices were really good too. Thumbs up
The waitress is awesome good service good food
My fiance and I are visiting from Alberta and we wanted to try the sushi here on the island because it is fresher in our opinions. Safety measures were in place and half an hour after they opened, the restaurant was full. A popular little joint. Extremely friendly service, the waitress we had was super helpful, polite and kind. Very yummy sushi! And inexpensive!! We will definitely be back on our next visit.
Tasty , fast, friendly!
I went with my family and it was good. nice staff and fast service
Excellent Sushi. Delicious. Fair prices. Will return. Only disappointment was servers and cooks not wearing masks. This would be a nice courtesy in current climate.
Great food! Great service!
Outstanding!! No masks!! Super service WITH a smile!! And super good food! Nice selection, beautifully displayed and delicious to eat! Such a treat in these depressing abd depersonalized times!! So cool!! Go here for sure!!
Great lunch deals
Great food, Quiet, Nice Staff. Ill be back
The food is really delicious.
I ate bulgogi and bibimbap among Korean food. It tasted best good
Good quality food but uses too much sauce
Friendly, attentive staff. Fast service. Delicious sushi.
Pretty good food
Good value at lunch
Best sushi in Duncan with a friendly atmosphere :)
Amazing food for a reasonable price
Excellent service... great food
Very tasty japanese food with a vast array of options and the value for the dollar is well worth it.
Very busy but very good sushi and sashimi
I love this place!!! Great food, service and prices. Definitely my new favourite in Duncan.
Great service and delicious onigiri
Food was excellent as was the service
Easily my favourite place on the island to get sushi. They have such a large menu and such delicious food. You definitely get your moneys worth. Great workers here who are very tentive and kind. Definitely recommend Japan Town!!
Me and my husband are vegan and they have a lot of good options for us! We usually will get the veggie platter which comes with a ton of sushi rolls. Be sure to ask for no sauce on the honeymoon roll they use mayo in it. Everyone there is so friendly we go there at least once a week it s so good. The lunch special is also good you can ask for tofu teriyaki and a lot of vegan sides to choose from.
love it! best sushi great service
Love this place, amazing food, great staff!
Great service from a great restaurant. I have only had the best service and food from Japan Town.
Love this restaurant! Friendly staff, good food and affordable too. Recommended.
Korean food is authentic. Love it!!!
Both the food and service is excellent. Great lunch specials - give you opportunity to try different items at a very good price.
Very good Korean food is here! They offer many kinds of Korean dishes along with sushi menu.
Great Lunch Choices!
Not so bad We keep going back for the Jabche and Caterpillar roll. Good miso, free tea with your meal. Nice staff.
Dam good waitresses-Brenda- and great food
Fair prices. Fresh. Good presentation and flavours. It was nice to see korean food on the menu as well.
The waitress is super friendly and the food tastes excellent. Monkey brains is fabulous! Casual dress.
Best in Duncan
Amazing food good pricing nice atmosphere
Love this place... Excellent service and fantastic food!
Great food...big portions...good service.
Food, prices and service are always good
The food here is awesome!!!! The owners and staff are so nice and accomodating. They make you feel like part of the family. Combination of Japanese and Korean food makes this the top of my list as being the best asian restaurant in the Cowichan Valley.
We get the best service every time we eat here. Attentive and thoughtful waitresses, always caring about getting things just the way we love it. Mr. Lee is a true artist, great attention to detail, concern about perfectly fresh ingredients, and the food is always spot on. We even had an awesome birthday party here, complete with sushi cake. Best place in Duncan. Go here :-)
Excellent food and very affordable prices
Love this place. Great people, Great food, great prices.
We love going there the food is great the waitress is amazing and really funny and our daughter loves to play with the little girl always good the only sushi place intown we go to
Great food and great service!
Good food, good price.
Very friendly staff. Food was good too. The daily specials were a quick and inexpensive combination of a roll and some soup noodle.
Great food and super friendly!
Delicious
My new favorite sushi restaurant in Duncan.
The service and staff here are very attentive and honest. The sushi was decent; however, the ramen that I had was more like instant noodles with garnish. If youre in town Id give this place a shot.
Great menu mr. Lee is the best
Excellent taste
Great food!
Great restaurant. Good value, food and service. I recommend. Waitress was great with our 4 year old! Thanks
Fantastic food and amazing staff, everyone is super friendly and they make it an awesome experience. The best sushi restaurant in Duncan by far
I order from here at least once a week and I have yet to have a bad experience! The food is delicious and the staff is super friendly and attentive. I won t go anywhere else!
Great staff even better owners
Good Japanese food
The servers were very sweet and informative. They were all very tentative and the food was good. I love their lunch special! You get to pick your main dish and 4 sides! Its a huge, delicious meal
Officially best one in Duncan. Being new to town we were trying and trying and all of them were disappointing so we are very happy to have tried Japan Town! Great portion size, all the food was fresh, varied menu and great staff. Perfect experience.
Not as good as I remembered it at all. We ordered a few rolls and they were pretty disappointing, they lacked flavour and fell apart easily. Service was pretty lame, our waitress left us for 15 minutes with our menus and then said The kitchen gets mad if I dont serve food first. Thats fine, I get that! And I would have been understanding, but I watched her put away plates for those 15 minutes so... If theres too much work for one server, then hire another one to reduce the load!
Amazing food and great service.
The sushi is always so fresh and the server is quick always delightful to talk with.
Excellent restaurant, that we frequent. I highly recommend the Beef Teriyaki!
Was good food, bit on the expensive side for the atmosphere or presentation
Food quality is very good I like it alot service is very good as well on point.
Delicious lunch menu & great value! Will return :)
Ive eaten at all of the sushi related restaurants around town and there are a couple I would certainly recommend. This particular restaurant is...... Definitely one of them. Ive only recently tried them and have returned to confirm that they are great. They have a nice, quiet, cozy little shop to sit and have an excellent meal. The sushi is well put together, they have really good brown rice tea, the tempura is crispy. All the things you want in a Japanese restaurant. They have Korean food as well and it was the best bulgogi I have had, albeit Ive only had three. So good I at the remaining sauce like soup.... Dont judge me.
Came to this place based on the reviews, but found ourselves a bit disappointed. Most of the menu is quite expensive. We ended up getting the Monkey Brains with California Roll special (I advise avoiding the Monkey Brain), Salmon Sashimi (overpriced and thinly sliced), Chicken Teriyaki dinner (tasted like oven-baked frozen chicken) and the Jeyuk (actually very good imo). The highlight for me was the Jeyuk, which was one of the cheaper items on the menu and had a lot of flavor.
An honest attempt deserves an honest review. Ill start off by saying that the waitress was great. She was kind, courteous, and helpful. She seemed a bit overwhelmed by the amount of customers, but she made enough smalltalk to make customers feel appreciated and wanted. So kudos to her. The food wasnt up to par with what you should get at this price point. I ordered 8 pieces of sashimi and a teriyaki chicken combo. The salad that came with the combo was the most basic salad you can get. Bagged lettuce with a weakly sweet dressing. I suggest ya mix this up a bit or simply drop it from the offering altogether because its simply mediocre. Tempura came out crispy and delicious. A good effort was made, and it was delicious. The chicken teriyaki was a disaster. The dish comes out on a steaming hot metal plate, covered in limp, cheap veggies and an artificially gooey terikayi sauce. Whoever supplies you with that sauce is hurting your business. The chicken itself was just bizarre. Either it comes frozen and they simply reheat it, or it is boiled (or steamed?). It does not have any crisp or char on it, and lacks all maillard reaction needed to bring outs its flavor. The chicken was simply plopped on the limp veggies and served. Again, a disaster of a dish. I highly suggest you actually grill this chicken, as the current technique isnt working. The rice served with the dish was cold but fine, and the miso was your standard miso (which, again is fine). Spicey mayo was hella spicey, and I loved it. Now, the Sashimi. What the heck was up with that sashimi? First, the salmon tasted like nothing and came out in pathetic little strips as if it was originally cut for nigiri and subbed in. At almost thirteen bucks, those portions and technique are miserable. When you cut fish into strips you absolutely destroy its texture and you might as well puree it. Its a shame the food wasnt up to par because there are precious few options in Duncan. The service was great, but the food was not.
We all had the lunch specials. They were delicious and a good value at $9.95. Kids enjoyed it, food was quick and services was friendly. Would definitely go back.
stopped in for lunch with a friend, had a great meal prices were great for the amount of food we received. Service was fast and friendly, even with it being the start of the dinner rush everyone was contacted and served promptly and the waitress was very kind and efficient. The food was wonderful! the agedashi tofu was cooked to perfection!
Very good food and service
Best sushi place in duncan.
Japan Town is my favorite sushi in town. Great food at a reasonable price, with unbeatable service.
We were up in Duncan for the day & went to Japan Town based on the Google reviews. It was TASTY! Great incredible service, great sushi...we did the Bento Boxes and were stuffed. I would highly recommend this place! Thank you Japan Town...we will be back!
Friendly... fast... fresh food
What a nice little surprise this place was! Ive never stopped for dinner in Duncan before, but I will now stop again just to eat here!
My husband and I went to this establishment on Saturday at 8:15pm closing hours say 9pm. We were turned away because they did not want to seat us at this time, I find this really poor customer service and am pretty disappointed. I could understand if it was 20 mins prior to closing but 45 mins seems a bit crazy to me. If you do not want people coming in at this time you should change your hours.
The food and the service was great. Had a big menu, lots of selection.
I love the staff here! They are always pleasant and helpful. Great food for reasonable prices-- Bento boxes are a smoking deal, and the specialty rolls Ive tried were delicious. This is a great place to take kids.
Best Japanese food in the valley
Great lunch boxes
Great food! People are nice there, usually go there alot,
Awesome food, friendly staff and owners make it feel like home.
Fish is always fresh, and the Korean menu is authentic with large portions. Amazing tuna sashimi, monkey brain and japchae. Also try Jia-jang-myeon
