The best Thai food in Vancouver Island
I had a chicken Pad Thai from this restaurant (not spicy) and sadly I have to say that absolutely zero flavour, not tasty at all and the chicken the same. Definitely lots of room to improve as I can say that has been by far the worst pad thai that I ever had. Said that they are a nice restaurant that probably have good dishes and I would like to try again in the future and hopefully see some improvements.
Truly the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to! We get the Chicken Pad Thai every time and it is the best I’ve ever had (as is the Thai iced tea). We’ve been trying to recreate it at home but have failed every time. The restaurant itself is a nice place to dine and has a very homey feel. The owners are so kind and welcoming and know the regulars orders. I highly highly recommend this place, it’s worth the trip to Duncan.
The soup was yummy. Tom YUM The restaurant was FREEZING COLD/ they had the air conditioner on in November. We had to keep our jackets on this was very very uncomfortable. The homemade coconut ice cream was yummy. We had to get our own menu. Hopefully you will see the review and adjust the room temperature. We would like to come back...
The food is truly spectacular here; we're on tour on the Island & lucked into visiting this restaurant on the first night in Duncan - it knocked our socks off with the quality. The real cincher was visiting the second time - half our crew got the same meal, I got another one - and the quality of preparation is consistent & excellent. Really a gem of a restaurant; a wonderful family working earnestly to make mighty fine Thai food. It packs proper heat, too - without being excessive! Go check it out!
5 stars is not enough. This cute little gem is to die for. I had pad thai from there today and the flavors are 10 out of 10! Would definitely recommended and I'll for sure be coming back!
We are new to Duncan & this is the best meal we’ve had so far!! Packed with flavour. Coconut soup with chicken, yellow curry with beef, pad thai, side of rice for the curry - Perfection! Lovely service and we had to try the homemade coconut ice cream… wow! We will be back SOON. Thank you!
In the city of Duncan nestled behind the spring blooming cherry tree, with a blink of an eye you might miss what could very well be one of the islands best and memorable authentic Thai food restaurants THAI LUMLUM. The simple menu containes many traditionally prepared Thai dishes. We were pleasantly greeted by our host who who described the menu items with patience, precision and confidence. The food arrived and it was incredible! Two bowls of coconut soup which definitely could have a been a great appetizer for four if not for the one giant patron at the table. The soup was a perfect combination of bold and balanced flavours. Our main courses consisted of “can’t go wrong” orders of vegetable dish and Pad Thai. To the delight of any diners eye the overflowing dishes arrived perfectly prepared and perfectly flavoured. The combination of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy elements were on point. Reasonably priced for an above average dish and portion size, just looking we knew we would be back. Easy parking was a bonus. Don’t blink!!!
Owner and chef are from northern Thailand. And know how to cook the famous Khao Soi well. Great full body broth, el dente noodles and crispy egg noodles on top.
Thanks for the food! :)
The food was tasty and served quickly with a genuine smile.
The BEST Thai restaurant in all of Cowichan. If I could I would eat there every day! The owners, atmosphere, and service are wonderful!
Best Thai I have had since Thailand. Possibly better than when I was in Thailand. I will dream about this meal. Thank you!!!
Great Thai food! I ve been to Thailand five times so I know what I m talking about lol. Give it a try for your self
Our group of 8 popped in on a Saturday night. Received fast friendly service and delicious food. Will return!
Amazing food!
Authentic and tasty Thai cuisine. Super nice service as well. Be careful to not order too spicy. Food : 5/5
I had #19 on the menu (cant remember what it was) and a thai iced tea, and both were fabulous. Ultra fast service, and very reasonably priced. The space is a bit cramped and doesnt have much vibe but when those are small potatoes in my book. Cant wait to go back.
Absolutely delicious food and by far the most toddler friendly restaurant Ive ever been to Kid-friendliness: They had proper toddler/child cutlery, dish wear and seating
Delicious hot and sour soups, sweet heat Thai dishes
Delicious food, good portion sizes at a good price. Staff was friendly and attentive. Ill be back, and bringing friends and family!
Never have I ever tried tai food, let alone traditional tai food untill I visited this place. The entrance is tucked away in a small ally, though its rather easy to see. Its a small ally, but it has some outdoor seating on top of a makeshift grass bed. It was pretty cute, and the inside was no different. When I stepped inside, I was surprised to see only one other table occupied. The waiter (who I assume was also the cook) told us we can sit wherever. We ordered spring rolls, red curry, pineapple fried rice, and chicken pad Thai. For drinks, my dad ordered a coke, but I got a Thai iced tea (I felt adventurous). We got our orders taken, and within a few minutes, we got our drinks. The Thai iced tea had an appetizing red color with cream on top, and it tasted just like Boba tea. It was great. Shortly after, we got our appetizer, the spring rolls. At first, with how quick it took to get it, I thought it would be something like the frozen ones from Costco, but to my surprise, it tasted nothing like it. It had a nice flavor, and what I think was plum sauce. Regardless, I still burned my mouth on it. Worth it. Next, we got the last three almost simultaneously. First was the curry and pineapple fried rice. The curry tasted delicious, having a nice creamy after taste. And the veggies inside it were perfectly cooked, adding to the delicious, slightly spicy flavor The pineapple fried rice seemed like it would be a basic, run of the mill fried rice until you ate it, that is. Its filled with onion, pineapple, beef (you can pick the protien), cashews and to my surprise, rasins! Ive never seen rasins in fried rice, and it was super good! Last but not least was the pad Thai. As soon as you take a bite, your mouth is hit with a massive amount of flavor. The chicken was cooked perfectly in its juicey, flavourful bite. Once you squeeze the lime they give you with it, it adds a whole other level of flavor. As we finished eating, more and more people showed up. Im glad to see my worry of this place being empty was cleared up. The portion sizes were pretty good. They could easily fill two people in one dish, and the prices were also super good, about 17 dollars per dish. If you like Thai food or have never had it before, this is definitely a go to in duncan Parking: Its downtown duncan, so of course itll be hard to find parking
Awesome pad tai. 10/10
A MUST TRY! Authentic Thai cuisine, oh boy did I tell you you its a must try?! This family owned restaurant has fantastic service and food. Their pineapple fried rice is a family favorite. They do not skimp on their rice and add cashews! The thai iced tea is so good. Perfect place for a date or family lunch or dinner. I learned a new word, Lum Lum means Yum Yum!
Very tasty food!
Just average Thai food in Duncan but really nice people running the place. My drunken noodles lacked authentic flavor so this was a bit of a let down. They had some nice free tamarind candies though.
Great red curry. Tasted very authentic and the staff were awesome. The owner even gave me a bit of extra noodles and rice as she was worried the spice level I insisted on may be too much. I ll be back.
Got take out, was hot when I got it, and the best pad thai Ive had in a very long time. Thank you!
Yellow curry with coconut rice was amazing!
Great consistent food and good prices, highly recommended!
Excellent. I will continue to order pickup from these charming people cooking delicious Thai food!
Stopped in for a quick dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Excellent green curry and Pad Thai! Great service.
Best food in Duncan
We found this little jem of a restaurant by luck of the draw. Fabulous authentic Thai food. The Pad Thai is really good. All the curries are delicious. I would recommend ordering it Medium hot
Went with my family and we ordered multiple menu items and all shared. Food was delicious and authentic, the server/host was very friendly. Meals came out at different times which is not ideal/how it should work at a restaurant. We were sharing so not a huge deal but not great practice. However Im giving 5 stars because of the generous portion size and how delicious and affordable it was. A truly a rare experience! Everything under $20 with the value of a packed meal that none of us could fully finish and made great leftovers.
Weve been so happy to eat here.. Its great food and the service is wonderful
Very good service, good menu. I had the Khao Soi, tasted fresh like home made in Thailand . Prices were reasonable. Vegetarian options: Tofu
Delicious Thai food, served by smiling waitresses, with hardly any wait time on food. Definitely worth checking out. We will be back!
I would love to give this place a five-star rating, however, the dishes varied so much in quality and flavor that I cant, do it in good conscience. My wifes chicken pad Thai was awesome. A great balance of flavours, with perfectly cooked noodles and flavourful chicken. An easy 9/10, which is surprising because I usually find this dish to be bland compared to my favourite spicy Thai dishes. The Tom Kha soup was also top notch, although a bit sweeter than what Im used to. Again, easily a 9.5/10. I could eat this soup all day and be happy. The Pad Kee Mao, however, which is usually one of my favourite Thai dishes, was bland, boring, and flavourless. Even trying to be nice about it, the best I could give is a 3/10. I cant speak to the service and atmosphere because we ordered takeout, but Ill definitely be giving this place a second chance based on the first two dishes.
Delicious food! We found the spice categorization to be a bit less than expected so if you like it hot, don t be afraid to pick the higher levels!
An excellent evening of fantastic food and great service. I ll be back!
Disappointed with the small portions and service.
Four of us shared 5 dishes plus rice, for about $90 + tip. Everything was SO delicious! And still so many interesting things to try on our next visit.
Absolutely delicious food, good portion, size exceptional prices, and great service
Well done Lum Lum It was great Yum Yum for my Tum Tum. I bet you ll get that a lot lol . The restaurant smelt amazing bathroom was clean!!! Also, the lady behind the front desk had a beautiful smile. Welcome to downtown Duncan!!!
Amazing place! The food was the best Thai I ve had in BC. Get the Khao soi it was amazing - would make a trip just to go here.
Super good food. Everything I have tried has been excellent!
Fresh & delicious!
Had the green curry with chicken today for lunch with coconut rice. The flavours were amazing. Best Thai Curry I have ever had
Amazing place
Best food in Duncan hands down.
Lovely place and truly a gem. Delicious food and you taste the spices. The dishes really reminded me about trips to Thailand. When in Duncan, visit this place!
Really tasty dinner and good service!
Food had good flavour (especially the drunken noodles), but we ordered to-go and were really surprised at how small the portions were when we opened it up at home. Side note: The salad rolls would have been better if they had noodles in them and shouldnt have been cut in half.
We had the drunken noodle dish and oh my gosh! So good! I could eat it every day!
Amazing food!!! Tom Sap, Pad Thai and Chicken with Cashews were flavorful, delicious and the vegies were crisp and perfect. Our waiter recommendations were right on, his suggestion to go with medium spice (we love spicy) was perfect. Medium accentuated all the great flavors. Compliments to chef/owners and the extremely knowledgeable waiter! EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!
If youre reading this: come down to this place, your search is over. Amazing Thai food at variable spice levels awaits! The Panang beef was a thing of beauty, with plenty of warm, hearty vegetables in a bright, savoury/spicy sauce. I hate zucchini, and I flipping loved it in this, so...chef knows their business! Plus, they had the purple rice! No one has the purple rice! It was the first time Id seen it in a restaurant. Its so good! This food is the perfect après-ski, the best rainy-day comfort, and the everyday delicious! Hell, you could even take a date here to break up because its impossible to be sad over a bowl of food this good! Stop reading and get over here!
So pleased to have stumbled upon this gem of a Thai food restaurant. The dishes I had tasted 100% authentic. Felt like I was in Thailand. Theyve quite an expansive menu. Had Panang with a side of rice. So flavourful! Tom Yum noodle soup with rice noodles. So flavourful again! Both medium heat and there was just enough bite. And 2 prawn salad rolls with peanut sauce on the side. I like salt so had to add a bit more salt to their already delicious peanut sauce. Its so nice to find an Asian food restaurant that actually tastes authentic to the country. Highly, highly, recommend. Lovely owners to boot! Ill be back! THANKYOU! *I highly recommend the Panang along with the 2 dishes I tagged below, but there was no tag for Panang.
The best Pad Thai around!!
Full of thoughtful balanced flavors. Nice service.
Best Thai food in the Cowichan Valley. So good!
The most awesome Thai food at the most ridiculously reasonable prices with the friendliest service anywhere! I go back because its so good and I can afford to because theyre so reasonable! The drunken noodles with beef are my favourite so far.....but the mango salad was to die for! I just have to keep going back to try everything else on the menu.....(and its a very long menu!) Vegetarian options: Theres a huge variety of vegetarian options to which you can add meat if you wish. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free isnt a problem, and theyre very accommodating with other restrictions Kid-friendliness: When I was there, party of 7 had 2 children and party of 4 had 2 children. The menu allows for options that are kid friendly Wheelchair accessibility: Its flat, straight off the sidewalk.
Lovely small restaurant along the totem trail in the downtown area. My drunken noodles were excellent, and so was my wifes pad Thai.
Really great Thai food! A nice unsuspecting gem of a restaurant.
Amazing Pad Thai and egg rolls! The best in Duncan.
Great service, food fast n hot. Delivered exactly how ordered Food
Great thai food with reasonable prices
Golly, those drunken noodles were deeelish !
Great service, fresh tasty food. I see why ppl rate this place so high. Will be back for more!
This place is AMAZING. Best food outside of Thailand for sure. The owner, Pam, is a goddess. Can t recommend more. 10 stars!!!
Excellent service, fresh and tasty food, including the best Pad Thai weve had in a long time! Vegetables in all dishes were very fresh and cooked perfectly. Had a highchair for kids and were very accommodating to ensure we had settled in and both adults and kids had everything we needed. Highly recommend!
Clean, organized, great food and diverse menu. Love the sauce side choices i.e. tamarind, galangal or peanut dipping sauces. Lovely touch the other night was a side order of rice noodles I ordered to go had a few julienne veggies to add colour and texture its the little things. Very nice addition to this space that was previously a Thai restaurant of which I went to tens of times.
Just tried it for the first time and I m blown away! Reminds me of eating in Thailand, will definitely return often!
The Jungle Curry consisted of a medium potato, cut into chunks, placed in water flavored lightly with what appeared to be curry power. In addition to the potatoes, there were a few tablespoons of flecks of meat, and a few pieces of bok choi and carrots. I also ordered a pork spring roll that was mostly potatoes, with perhaps half a teaspoon of meat. The server set this bowl in front of me and said I would need to buy rice separately. When I expressed my concern with the curry he tried to gaslight me by saying it was authentic (As if I had never eaten Thai food before). When I wanted to cancel the spring roll, after the rice incident, and seeing the curry, he said it was too late , and brought it out immediately. This came to $22. I was hoping for this new place to be comparable to the previous restaurant, Sais Thai.
Its been a long time since a meal made me excited to be eating it. Absolutely knocked it out of the park, was probably annoying my girlfriend with my repeated pauses between bites to praise my curry. Both our meals were genuinely stellar and makes me regret other 5 star reviews Ive left restaurants in the past. Best, most flavorful food in Duncan, what a gem. Come give them your business, we cant afford to let these guys slip away!
Best Thai in Duncan. So good
Super tasty. Had the drunken noodles, green curry and salad rolls. Tonnes of veggies and meat in all the dishes. We had the mild green curry and it had a good amount of heat.
extremely greasy and not what it used to be! i used to buy the pad thai a couple times a week at least but since the new ownership the recipe changed and the only thing that s the same is the noodles which still aren t cooked as well! it was decent for a pad thai if they put half the amount of oil in the wok! also paid $18 dollars for a veggie cashew pad thai which seems pretty steep! miss the old ownership and recipes. hope they can adjust the menu to compete to what it was !
New favourite Thai place! Every dish we have tried was flavourful with big portions and reasonably priced. Highly recommend the papaya salad!
Delicious, fresh Thai food.
Wow, wow, wow!! Ordered for pick-up today for lunch for the staff. SO GOOD! Big portions, reasonable prices, food was ready quickly. Everything ordered was so flavourful it left us wanting more and more! We will definitely be frequent lunchers at Sap Siam Bistro!
This place is a gem! The green curry was amazing, flavourful and included loads of fresh vegetables. Duncan s best kept secret!
Great food, great service, great price point! The Drunken Noodles (with Udon noodles) was amazing. Sap Siam is now officially our favorite Thai food in the valley.
Food w/friends. Good food, portions so so. Green curry was really good!
Delicious and authentic. Everything ingredient was fresh and in season. Portions were good. Had the chicken cashew with green curry stir fry, can t wait to try more dishes.
Went in for lunch with a friend. The Pad Thai was delicious, as were the spring rolls. Friendly service, and everyones meal in the busy little restaurant looked amazing as well. Cant wait to go back and try more dishes.
Amazing little place, the food was packed with flavour and authentic Thai tastes! Great way to finish a day, and unwind from the rat race. I had a chicken and rice main, my friend said her curry and noodle dish was insane! Tired of food that s bland and plain? Visit Sap Siam Bistro for a refreshing change!
Delicious and authentic Thai dishes . The Pad Thai with shrimp was exceptional ! Warm and friendly place. Thank you for the amazing food and service :) Vegetarian options: Incredible Pad Thai with shrimp and tofu option . Delicious , authentic and great presentation. Friendly and welcoming place. Dietary restrictions: I am gluten sensitive and the rice noodles are perfect !! Parking: Easy and free street parking
Lovely restaurant, food, staff and owners! I have an obsession with the spring rolls [and the Pad Thai]. I m 89 years old and when I can t eat in I have my son bring take out! Thank you!
