Delicious bowl of steaming rare beef pho from two very hardworking female staff. Hit the spot on a rainy damp day. I also wound up buying 4 packs of the frozen version to go! My partner had the lemongrass chicken which was not as flavourful.
Friendly service and delicious, authentic Vietnamese Food. I was a little dissapointed after my last visit, though. I asked for rare beef pho and to make it spicy. The employee provided sriracha and chilli oil for me to put in but the containers were only 1/4 full? Like less than a tablespoon of each. I also ordered to go and the beef was put in the hot broth so my beef was not rare. Regardless, I did very much enjoy my pho and their donairs are good too.
So first of all, the pictures posted on the Google profile of this place and the food are NOT at all the reality of this place. The atmosphere was described as "like a prison cafeteria" and I was immensly disappointed with the food portions. I got a grilled chicken vermicelli dish for $18....it was about half the size of any other grilled chicken vermicelli dish from almost every other Vietnamese restaurant Ive been to. The chicken was incredibly dry and seemed as if it was reheated, cut into tiny pieces and amounted MAYBE one or even half of a single chicken thigh. This place doesnt even have dishes...I mean no plates or bowls, just take out containters. Salad rolls were very small and underwhelming, not a single condiment on the tables, no Chilli oil, no Hoisin, no hot sauce. The water available to drink tasted like really old dirty pipes. Staff seemed friendly and prompt with service however. I felt very strongly that it was a waste of my money and I'll never go back to that place, especially when Green Leaf Bistro is roght down the street👍🏼 Do not recommend.
Had a chicken sandwich/sub it was 17$ and had probably half an once of chicken and a huge loaf of dry ass bread that was way to toasted was actually gross My gf got a shrimp soup that was 15$ had 2 shrimp, the broth tasted like water and was plain never coming back here
Haligonian review of the Halifax Style Donair: Wrap - warm, delicious, KOD would be jealous Toppings - actual sweet onion and diced tomatoes, as the Good Lord intended. None of this lettuced New Brunswick abomination. And certainly not the purple onion travesty I had in Campbell River. Sweet sauce - was the real deal. Was basically the same as you'd find at Hungry Hut in Dartmouth. Meat - really the only thing that wasn't 100% Haligood. The spices were right, but the meat should have gone through the grinder again. (Everyone knows donair meat is triple-ground!) Experience - well, my hands were a sticky mess and by the end it had spilled sauce out the back and it felt as if I had rubbed it on my face as much as ate it. So: the authentic donair experience! Would recommend! The bahn mi and everything else here looks super good, too, so I'll have to come back!
Massive shout out to the two awesome people at Cedar Farmers Market today holding up their bowls of frozen beef pho!!!🐂🥢 We made our way around the market and couldn't leave without circling back to make sure we got a bowl each. We went home and had one of the best bowls of beef pho we (in agreement) ever had, honestly. These guys have really figured it out so I can enjoy restaurant quality at home.🙌 Will DEFINITELY be stocking my freezer with these convenient packages of soup, including the wonton next time. Thanks for being in the right place at the right time for us to discover your business. We can't wait to make our way to Duncan and try their in house menu. Two thumbs up from us!!👍👍 ...no photos because we ate it so fast. 😅
Excellent flavor, 100% original Vietnam food. My 2nd best oriental restaurant. My instructions to order special order was followed perfectly. If you are visiting Dunkan you need to eat here at least one time.
Best pho on the island !!! Super wonderful experience. The costumer service is grate and the food is even better. I have tried Saigon subs several times, and every time they are on point. Super flavourful and perfectly cooked. The pho has a rich broth and come with lots of meat. The vermicelli bowl is the same, lots of shrimp and very well seasoned. I also tried the pre-made frozen pho. This was super easy to make and proved lots of flavour, even after being frozen. The value is great as the pho makes a large portion for the price. The cooking directions were easy to follow and the pho came out perfect. Overall I loved my experience with Saigon subs, and would definitely recommend, 10/10. The photos below are of the beef pho kit. So delicious.

Always delicious, and the added option of having soups in the freezer for those crazy days is dynamite. Dietary restrictions: Really good choices for folks with sensitive stomachs, I have a number of GI issues and the pho is safe during flare ups.
I got one of the frozen pho kits at island reports market and it was absolutely scrumptious!!! Authentic! Their salesmen is a gentleman as well!!

We love getting the frozen pre-made beef Pho! It is seriously so delicious and so fresh being frozen after they made it. We are going to live off these lol. Highly recommended!! Tell your friends about this hidden gem!!

Food was well flavored and balanced. Soup broth in the pho had a rich taste and you can tell that a lot of effort and care went into preparing it. The portions were a bit small for the pho bowl and Bahn mi (I am from Vancouver) while the prices were on the high side of normal. This would not deter me from visiting again as the flavors hits all the important notes. Dining in is a sparse experience but is hour enough considering the venue. I rarely leave reviews, but I got the pork patty bahn mi and it honestly might be the best sandwich I ve ever had in my life. No joke. Do yourself a favour and get one.
I just had a pork sub from their booth at the market. So I can t speak to the atmosphere of the restaurant. But that was the best sub!!
Delicious Halifax style donairs! They even brought out some pita & tzatziki at no charge for my daughter! All the workers work so hard, and have the biggest hearts! Love this local gem!
Really tasty grilled pork Bahn mi, one of the better ones I ve had and great service. It did cost about 13$ (10% tip) so I was expecting a bigger portion. I would ve love to see a deal for 2 subs or slightly cheaper for one because I would ve purchased more as these are my favourite. I might go back to try their almond chicken which looks good.
This place is so awesome the food is amazing 10/10 I love getting the ham and pate sub, the spring rolls are delicious too. Definitely recommend going out of your way for this place. + my boyfriend says it the best restaurant ever
Im not from Duncan so Im not biased... Ive tried most pho here in Duncan and Saigon has the best broth in town easily. The place itself isnt really a sit down place more a TO GO style but....like I said... they have the best broth. They even offer a unique one of a kind FROZEN TO GO pho kit! Like seriously... great Pho here. Its almost as if other places are asleep at the wheel and make a conscious effort to not have good tasting balanced flavorful broth. Saigon probably came to the logical conclusion that is takes the same effort to make both bad and good broth so they decided to simply make good broth.

I love coming here I get the snack size donair but I get it with only lettuce and sauce because I don t like tomatoes. Staff is always nice and welcoming I m very proud to be a supporter of this shop.

Got a chicken sub. $10 for mostly bread and shredded carrot, with a disappointing amount of chicken. It didnt taste bad, but I felt ripped off and still hungry. Seems like another place that skimps on everything they can to help their profits.

I picked up a beef sub and could not believe how light it was. It was like holding a baggie of air. Filling was sparse: extremely thin piece of meat and a few veggies. I was expecting a sandwich that would fill me up but I was still hungry afterwards and I have a very modest appetite!

I love this place! Second time and it s one of the best places to eat in Duncan. The Explosion Beef Donair was great and the Almond Chicken Chow Mein is amazing. I highly recommend the food and Quinn (sp?) was so friendly at the till.

I ve been looking for a good Halifax Donair for awhile, this place hit it bang on. Delicious, leaving me wanting to try the rest of thier food now. 10/10, juicy, sauce was on point and it was served hot.
This is our family s go-to for take-out. Quick, reasonable price, and delicious. Picky eaters can get the side of pita while others can enjoy more flavour.

Best lunch Ive had in Duncan by far. 5 stars for atmosphere might be a stretch for some but this is the kinda place I like. Deep fried wonton alone will keep me coming here but the Bahn mi was fantastic, almond chicken and lovely lady made me so happy!

I love this place! My favourite items are their spring rolls, deep fried wontons and their spicy beef sub! The owners are so sweet and always happy to see me. Their food is consistent, fast and delicious. They are located right across the road from Cow High in Duncan, next to A&W.

Had the ham and pate banh mi, bread was light and crispy and the sandwich was delicious. Only had to wait like 5 minutes for it too.

Prices were decent. Food was mediocre at best. Had the Halifax donaire. The sauce was much too sweet. I couldnt even finish it. My partner had the Bahn mi and it was just ok. I also got the spring rolls. Waaaaay too much carrot. Its all we could taste. There is definitely better Vietnamese food out there. Sad that I was disappointed with the food, because the place smelled delicious when we walked in and the people working were nice and service was fast. Maybe the pho is better. Probably wont be going back to try it though.

Good, consistent food. A bit pricey but worth it for real food. Haven t tried any of the wraps or sandwiches, usually get the pho and rice or vermicelli dishes, friendly staff.

We each had a grilled chicken banh mi and thought they were delicious! The baguette was so soft.
Found it almost by accident when I left the house searching for lunch. Was not disappointed! Some of the best Pho I ve had and really hit the spot on a cold rainy day. Will be returning to try the Donair and of course get more Pho.
This wonderful little family operated local done has some pretty good Vietnamese food Id have to say! I highly recommend their banh mi (subs) as they are just so yummy and filled with tasty veggies! I also love the vermicelli dishes and the chicken noodle soup is so clean tasting! A great place for some pretty yummy Vietnamese food if ya are craving soup, subs, or noodles!

1 star because you dont answer the phone to take someones order while in the middle of taking an order in person. 1 star because of the outrages price in crease 2 substations made on my donair 1 star for the explosion donair, which I asked if it was big, being so small, making the price even more ridiculous. Do not recommend.
Closest thing to real East Coast Donairs Ive ever tasted. Pleasant people, fast service. Will be going back and telling my friends.

I just tried this place after a coworker said she wanted to try something new. It was delicious. I had a donair and it wasnt too bad. We tried the fried wontons and those were awesome. Another tried the wonton soup and said the broth was great... which is the hardest part in my opinion of wonton soup. We will definitely be going there again for the office to enjoy
Disappointed. Poor value for the price. Bahn mi was parse of all toppings except carrot. Cucumber, cilantro, jalapeno, and cucumber almost nonexistent. Id look elsewhere.

Best East Coast style donair around. Ive been searching for these since I moved out here and my god have I found them! I would drive hours to have one, very recently priced, and the owners are awesome and recognize me every time! Would recommend to anyone!

Got takeout. Vermicelli, Bahn Mi, and salad rolls. Food is fresh and tasty but portions are SO small! I d rather pay a couple more bucks for the sub and get some veg and meat. Same for the Vermicelli. Charge another $1.50 or $2.00 and amp up the veg and meat. Definitely needed more noodles in the Vermicelli. Might go back, but might not. New place in town called Green Leaf that we are going to try. Wanted to love it here... :(

Saigon Subs is my favourite restaurant in Duncan, and from what Ive had so far the best Pho on the island. They have a really wonderful complex broth and the bahn mi and spring rolls are great as well. The staff remembers their regulars and their preferences. I love this place, if youre just getting donairs you are missing out.

The food here is great... the price is great and so are their staff. Tho the atmosphere might be lacking dont let it fool you. They are consistent and their is a dish for everyones tastes. You wont be disappointed. The longest wait depends on how many people are in line waiting to order. After ordering boom your foods hot and waiting for you... fast pho, whats not to love?
The best place in Cowichan possibly even on the island for Halifax-style donairs! Every time I m in duncan I try and go here! Heard that the pho is very good from friends of mine! A must try if you like Sweet sauce donairs

If you like Pho, this is NOT the place to go. The portions are less than half the size you would get in someplace like Vancouver. The tea is bags, the slow cooked brisket looked like it had been boiled all day, and the broth was just so-so. But the nail in the coffin for this place is NO BASIL!!! They dont even try to stock it. They just say, its hard to get in Duncan (apparently theyve never heard of Costco?). All this does not induce them to lower their prices. I paid $32.00 for 2 regular and 1 kid-size with 1 meat choice on each (Oh, and 2 teas). Considering I could pour all 3 into the lg. size bowl that costs about 7 to 9 dollars in Vancouver, this is not good value. In fairness, I did not have a sub, which is what these guys are most known for, and the (counter) service was polite and efficient.
If you want quality Vietnamese food in the Cowichan Valley this is the place. Not to mention the east coast style Halifax donairs with sweet sauce. Good prices and even better food, with an upbeat owner thats always serving with a smile!

Their donairs are sooo good. A must try! Their sitting space is limited, so try to get a take out or go when its not a peak time. If you go during the same time as the lunch time of the highschool right beside it, you will be waiting in line for a while. Their Pho soups are very good as well. Not as greasy and oily as other places. Broth is good and noodles are a good portion.
