I've had the privilege to eat from Charmaine Sweets for a while now. Our family owned several bakeries in the past and at first I thought Charmaine sweets was just using regular fillings, but later found out, for example, they would get Wild organic blueberries and make their filling from scratch. I know this takes so much work and care just to have this in their products. The croissants are so consistent and I love their organic sourdoughs. I could go on and on, but Just wanted to mention that this place has great value knowing that everything is made from scratch. That is extremely hard to do. Our family opted to purchase premade products, at our bakeries, and it would taste ok, but NOTHING like the production at Charmaine Sweets. Just incredible quality and care for good value. Thanks Dustin, Charmaine, and Crew
I bought it on the 25th and ate it without any doubt. The taste was really off, so I checked the expiration date, and I can’t believe they sold this. It was a place I liked, but I’m really disappointed. You can’t run a business like this. I even doubt if they’re following the expiration dates for the ingredients used to make the bread.
So I didn't think I could have a whole meal there! A great lunch place. They have a variety of sandwiches, some salads and I think I saw soup on the menu. I had a mushroom croissant which was unique and delicious. I also ventured out to try the vegan brownie and to my surprise it was not dry but soft and rich. Had it with an Americano on the patio. It was a delicious meal and experience. The service was also joyful and kind. There was lots of seating inside and out. There was parking. My only recommendation is to invest in an electric button to open the door for strollers and mobility devices. A ramp is available for the entrance door.
The small chicken pies are yum. Pastry is perfect. The whole grain sourdough bread is also very good. Indoor seating is comfortable and bright.
Pleasantly surprised. Stumbled across this when I came to the UppaBaby store. Had the almond 🥐 and I would highly recommend this. I also tried the herb and cream cheese sandwich which was delicious. The blueberry scone was great as welI. I would definitely return again for the treats. I had the chai tea latte which was okay (not the greatest but not bad).
Pecan tarts are amazing! My husband loved them! Multigrain sourdough bread was sooo tasty! Chocolate croissant fantastic! We still have to try everthing we pre-ordered! Our first taste of the treats at Charmaine sweets!
Super cool! Excellent quality. Friendly and patient staff. I enjoyed so much. I know that it a personal opinion but I think it could have warmer atmosphere buy using a different color and decoration but it's still very good. I highly recommend there.
INCROYABLE! DÉLICIEUX! BRAVO! So gooooood that it will make you speak all sorts of French in no time. You know a good boulanger when the basic baguette is right. This one is better than right. ELLE EST PARFAITE CETTE BAGUETTE!! You know by the touch. Thiiiiiinest crust that gives a joyous crackling sound under the gentle touch of an eager hand. Crunchy and just the right amount of savory. It's a real baguette and not a loaf in disguise, pretending to be a baguette. The tarts. THE TARTS! bourbon pecan and butter tarts. My wife does not even like bourbon and she couldn't believe how good it is. I love bourbon and I might quit drinking it straight just to eat more of those bourbon tarts. But the butter tart is decaaaAAAAAAdent. My fav? Eat one of each back to back. You won't regret it (well, ok maybe for 2 seconds and then you won't). Macarons...OH LA LA LA! These put to shame some of the ones in France. Crumbles in mouth. Thick yet light filling. 2 bite size perfect. They a bit pricey but hey, when it's that good, it's justified. Ppl spend lots more for terrible food. At Charmaine Sweets, not a chance. Anyways, don't be influenced by the accolades from pros and michelin geniuses. Go taste Charmaine Sweet for yourself. You will not regret it. And oh, the people there....ILS SONT TROP TOP! Not much to say about the atmosphere. No fluff, no bull. Places to sit and happily buttered ppl around you. Just right for enjoying the amazing food served here. (Flip flops displayed are not from there. I know disappointing.)
Croissants and beignets are fantastic
The blonde young girl was rude Un enthusiastic you need to get her out of there! December 18th at 4:00 pm we were excited first time in there she did not crack a smile. Otherwise hands down great cookies and pot pie.
Follow @bredgyeats for more food pictures! Cinnamon Sugar Beignet - Cinnamon taste was distinct but I wish it couldve been stronger. Dusted with a generous coating of sugar on the outside. Beignet was pretty airy and light, oil fragrance was a little too subtle though. Cant compare it with GH. Lemon Beignet - Same beignet but with powdered sugar on top and a tangy and sweet lemon filling. Almond Croissant - Very distinct umami and caramelized crust, fragrant roasted aroma permeates through your mouth. The exterior is crisp and flaky as well, and the structure on the inside cant compare with a butter croissant, but for an almond croissant, it was pretty good. The almonds on top were fragrant as well with a bit of colour. The almond filling was also a perfect amount of sweetness.
The vegan date tart was delicious and the cashier was very friendly. Will definitely return!
I really enjoyed getting my regular morning coffee here. Food is good too. Prices are outrageous, but I never minded because of the sheer quality. However, whats off putting is the absence of customer service. You really need to train your young staff to understand how important it is to serve customers efficiently instead of engaging in personal chit chat behind the counter. Three people behind the counter not serving anyone at all and making me wait more than 10 minutes for a black coffee is non-sense. It was a turn off. Not to mention the fact that the person who served me was fidgeting with her nose the whole time. Honestly, have we learned nothing at all from COVID and the proper way to handle food. Never going back again as a result. Truly disappointed.
Toronto most delicious kept secret ! My favorite Saturday morning spot. Hands down the best flakiest croissant you will have in north America!!! And the have a great variety of bruch/sandwiches and pastry. The staff is also the best really fast and really friendly
We had almond milk lattes and the cheese mushroom croissant and they were great. So many food options
Excellent bakery, delicious food. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!
Honestly, this thing is getting pretty common these days, being judgemental about someone the very moment people see that person. I feel disheartened as I felt i was treated very differently and rudely as compared to the other customers coming in the store. I shopped for 50$ and added 10$ tip, without even getting a hi or hello. I went to the store next day just to check if they treat me differently but next day was also the same. Poor very poor customer service
Food is good, prices are on the higher side for sandwiches (~15). Had a smoked salmon sandwich and a brie & pear. Both were very good and fresh. Coffee was decent. I feel like the seating area could be nicer
Just a delightful! Everything is tasty and fresh! It feels like a hidden gem
This place is a great local gem! I particularly love their pastries and sandwiches. One of my go-to spots for sandwiches or croissants. That said, I think the baristas could use a bit more training making coffees. I always order plant-based milk and it s served piping hot. Plant-based milk should never be steamed as long as regular milk and should be drinkable as soon as you get it. But it usually burns my tongue. I also find the coffee a touch too bitter for my liking (which could also be a barista error that causes burnt coffee beans). I only hope this review helps the cafe up their coffee game because I think it will make this spot even better. They don t have wifi so if you re planning to work here, you ll want to have your own internet or go elsewhere. Overall, I m a fan and would recommend! Vegetarian options: Chickpea salad sandwich, pecan and Brie sandwich
Little gem of a bakery. Great location, delicious and amazing quality goodies, lovely staff. Tradi, beignets, etc. They accommodated my tiny request/craving and I very much appreciated that! Highly recommend this bakery P.S. Didnt get a chance to take photos. Everything got devoured. Youll just have to visit and see for yourself
I absolutely love the savoury pies and sweets and most of the staff, but the service from one particular staff member is almost always a bad experience. Its almost unavoidable when they are the only individual that is there to provide the service. They are frazzled, gas light in their approach to conversation and just generally not the best person to be providing patrons with service at a sweets shop.
Charmaine is 10/10. Love this place! Pastries are amazingly delicious, staff is super friendly, and vibes are always good! Love coming here and may this gem exist for many years to come!
Their chocolate gingerbread cookie is to die for!!
Thank you for our beautiful treats ordered for our wedding- they were an absolute hit. Charmaine is our favourite bakery in north Toronto -- it is fabulous and absolutely delicious!
It was really good!
Ridiculously outstanding - Highly Recommended.
Bought some scones, croissants and a mini chocolate moose cake her for my sister s birthday. Nice selection. Friendly staff. Short wait times. Parking was rough because we went during a busy time. You can park across the street at Marshall s.
Roasted Chicken Salad with fresh herbs. Hands down best in the city!!! They only make about a dozen of these hand-crafted masterpieces! Get there before 1 to get one but many other masterpiece sandwiches available that I havent been able to try because their Chicken Salad is so world-class. Wow - just wow. Vegetarian options: Vegan options Dietary restrictions: Keto options
Always delicious! Whether it is the sandwiches, salads or pastries! All is delicious. Love this little place in leaside. Such a gem. Side patio seating outdoor and small seating area inside as well.
Probably the best danishes in the city!
I arrived to pick up 20 desserts for a birthday party but they had already closed, so I sat outside trying to figure out an alternative plan. The waitress came outside and kicked me off the property, treating me like a homeless person loitering. Will not be getting any business from me in the future.
Selling a failed batch of macarons I see. Also the key lime dessert was bad. On the plus side, the staff working there are very nice and friendly. Food : 1/5
Awesome pies! The frozen rhubarb and peach pies were delightful when baked at home.
Received the granola as a gift. Delicious!
Almond croissant
Cute atmosphere. Great service. Delicious food.
I wish I took a photo of my avocado toast because it was divine I devoured it!!! This spot is a hidden gem! Can t wait to go back! Everything is so fresh and delicious. The staff are so pleasant and warm. I had a wonderful lunch experience.
Went in for butter tarts, tried the sourdough multigrain loaf. Both are excellent. The tart is sweet but flavourful, not too much filling, excellent crust. The loaf has a fine crust, the grains and seeds distinctly flavourful, the crumb moist
Really nice and sympathetic small Cafe and delicious sandwiches.
Excellent Beverages and Food.
Loved it! Reasonable prices and good quality food. Food
I had a tasty quinoa salad and as well a Boston cream beignet, which was incredible.
What a quaint place for a coffee and a snack. People dont always have to go to the franchises. These are the shops that need to be visited and supported.
Amazing family feel restaurant. Pastries are actually fresh and not stale definitely worth every penny !!
A real hidden gem with truly amazing food and sweets. Accidentally run into it looking for cofee, and was prety impressed with their sandwiches and croissants!
Really nice bakery. A lot of delicious sweet treats. Friendly staff too.
Best homelands!
Came for the Bourbon pecan butter tarts and the regular ones. Saw the macarons and bread so got that too. Been to France and these macarons are right up there if not better. The multigrain sour dough bread is what we enjoyed in Germany but hard to get here. Great quality and will be back for more. That baguette looks amazing so on the list.
Thanks so much Charmaine for preparing a special birthday cake for my nephew. We couldnt have enjoyed our simple white cake with vanilla icing more. It was scrumptious! I am fairly certain we will be ordering this again! Until the next time ...
Whenever Im in this neighborhood, I always pass Charmaine Sweets. I decided to stop by for lunch and was not disappointed. There is so much to choose from; savory and sweet.
This is a solid option in Leaside for baked goods. I also tried one of their sandwiches and it was delicious! The cakes in particular are very good quality and people rave about them anytime we bring one to a party.
Was in search of a carrot cake for my husband s birthday and it did not disappoint. The other baked goods also looked delicious! Will come back to try other things.
I have been here several years ago, but things have really ramped up. Theres a varied selection of delicious sweet and savory treats. Parking: About 5 spots
Excellent quality goods. The butter tarts are amazing! I am addicted to their multi grain bread!
Staff were very friendly and helpful answering all of our questions (it was our first time going there). Love that they have parking. Simple inside (could use some decor maybe).
Fantastic selection of good cafe food. Prices range from very reasonable to what youd expect from a boujie Toronto cafe Maybe the worst coffee Ive had in a decade Food
I always come to this bakery when I am visiting Toronto. I used to always come when I lived in Toronto. We love their traditional baguette, croissants, danishes, beignets, and Paleo muffin. Not a fan of their coffee. But, their sandwiches are good. However, had to give only 3 stars for review because the last two times I have been here, they have forgotten something in our order. I usually make a pretty big order since I bring some stuff back for my extended family. Spent at least $55 the first time and then $85 the second time. The first time they forgot a Boston cream donut. I didnt check so I had driven all the way home, noticed it was gone, called them, and then had to drive all the way back (20mins each way) to pick it up. The people at the counter didnt even seem apologetic about it. The second time happened today. They had forgotten to put in our butter croissant. Luckily, we were eating our sandwiches in the cafe. My son asked for his croissant and we couldnt find it so we mentioned it to the counter. They gave us our croissant, but again, no apology or anything. I understand that this happens once, but how has this happened to me twice! They can definitely improve on their service. Parking: Limited parking spots
Their house roast beef sando is addicting as heck, and they have some amazing pastries! Im a sucker for butter tarts, and theirs is very satisfyingly goopy. We try to get here just after they open as the good stuff doesnt last long. Drop in for a snack, you wont be disappointed.
Excellent French baked goods.
Best croissant in the city
Nice bakery, seem very popular as a lot of stuffs sold out quick. I tried cheesecake and hot chocolate with lactose free. A few seating at front and back
The best coffee and croissant. Parking: A plenty of parking across the street in front of Marshalls. Food : 5/5 |
Decent dessert options
Butter tart here is to die for.
Amazing food, amazing service, Beautiful place! My kids love the macarons, beignets, chicken pies...I also love the chocolate almond croissants, blueberry scones, chicken sandwiches, soups, quinoa salad, brunch items, butter tarts....Cant list out all my favourites, there are just too many!
My favourite local bakery. Best baguettes Ive ever had. The cherry Danish is my favourite treat!
Be prepared for the line ups but it moves fast during the rush hours. I m in love with their roast beef sandwiches! They use AAA sirloin beef cuts and I always ask if mine can get warmed up. (Heads up, if you warm yours up the lettuce will be wilted, but that s totally fine by me) I buy two every time I come here, accompanied with a lemon and raspberry danish and a latte with a shot of a vanilla because it s so damn good! The quality never fluctuates!
Unfortunately average and despite having our food at around 2pm it was closer to stale than fresh
Wonderful place to take a nice lady for lunch the food was excellent and the coffee was to die for
This little French pastrie shop is absolutely amazing. Its a must try. I have had a lot of different items, from frozen food to fresh baked goods, and everything is simply delicious. Its definitely worth the trip.
I have been to Paris and eaten a plethora of croissants in Paris. Charmaine s are better hands-down. If I could eat here every single day I would. The smoked salmon croissant and chocolate almond croissant are my reason for living.
Love the sourdoughs and cherry tart + nice and welcoming employees
The sandwiches are excellent! Fresh ingredients and great bread, but get to them before 1 because they sell out fast. The real star is the mini meet pies! One of the greatest things I ve ever put in my mouth. Beef or chicken they re both fantastic! Highly recommend trying these.
Pros: The food is really good. Ive tried their croissant sandwiches, sweet croissaints and danishes, beignets, scones, and some of the smaller cakes/tarts. The only thing I didnt love was the key lime tart which was too sour for me, but I still ate the whole thing. The staff are nice, and there is a large selection of frozen foods that look good but I havent tried. Cons: Its expensive/ portions are small for the price. Definitely not a place I can afford to go regularly. The building layout is not great. The place is not that big and when its even a little busy its very hard to see whos in line to order or pay/ whos waiting to pick up their order. The counter staff try their best but it is cramped back there and I have had them lose track of whose food is whose/ who is next in line to order. The location has very little parking, though the Marshalls across the street has a big lot. Its in a bit of a weird sort of light industrial area with a lot of semis going past. Not very walkable.
My favourite place for quality croissants
Excellent grilled cheese sandwich and good latte. Great place to get a sandwich or treat and several prepared take-home options available.
Charmaine and the staff are more than sweet - everyone is treated like a regular, and youll quickly become one after your first try. Highly recommend the breakfast sandwich, which they also suggested when asked, and the banana bread, when available (so worth the wait, if not). Cant go wrong with any of the mini quiches or baked goods either (special shout-out to the flourless brownie). They also make a mean grilled cheese! Excellent food that always tastes (better than) homemade.
I love the prosciutto sandwich! All their bakery items are amazing, you really cant go wrong. Wish they were open everyday!!
Charmaines has to be one of the nicest bakeries Ive ever been in and Ive been in quite few. Staff are polite well-informed and the food is amazing. The lemon tarts are out-of-this-world as are all of their goods.
The sweets were delightful. Particularly the corn bread. It was drizzled with honey. Would definitely recommend
Yummy treats for your tummy.
Never try their Pizza. it s sooooo bad
Delicious soups and quiche. Great coffee selection too. Cute back patio. Will return
My office is around the corner I drove by it for 3 weeks then had the opportunity to try it OMG is it great fresh the puff pastry and croissants are flaky fresh baked artisan bread with prosciutto and sliced tomato and fresh mozzarella drizzled with olive oil, oregano, salt, pepper fantastic got to try
This place is a hidden gem. Solid.
I came here and discovered that they bake sourdough bread with organic flour (!!). I m happy to report that the bread is delicious: perfectly crisp crust and chewy inside. Also the staff are kind and helpful. If you re looking for great fresh baked bread for under $10, this is the spot.
Delicious!
I heard that Charmaines was good but every time I drove by this place it was closed. Last week I actually saw it open and even though I wasnt hungry and didnt really want anything I had to stop. The croissant was really good and the cheese biscuit was ok. I did not like my iced Americano and I know I would never get this again. Even though my experience wasnt good, because I have heard so many wonderful things about Charmaine and the line up that I witnessed, I will give it another try. Hopefully sooner than later.
Lovely bakery cafè with great selection of pastries and desserts of high quality. Excellent coffee. Also product for takeaway. Seating indoors and outside. Lovely service staff. Always a treat. Repeat customer.
Such a lovely quaint lit cafe! Love everything they serve up there, from croissants to their quiche to sandwiches. They could improve on their desserts though, had higher expectations from the tiramisu, but was a disappointment.
Hands down, best bakery. I absolutely love everything here. Everything is always fresh and soo delicious! My partner and my favourites include: mini chicken pies, beignets, croissants, the traditional baguette, the danishes, cherry pie, sprinkle cookie, scones, macaron, the chocolate dome and for lunch, all of the sandwiches are amazing. The brunch menu is also delicious! Great staff, always a lovely experience. Thank you!
I got there at 1/4 to delicious which in Charmaine terms is 15 min to 8:00am. Excellent latte and great service. Sour dough, scones, croissants and cakes all for me, oh my! Highly recommended.
The best hidden gem for delectable goodness in the city. On top of the friendly neighborhood charm, there isnt an item on the menu that has disappointed yet. Try it all, this place is top shelf in flavour and quality.
Amazing bakery with great service and great pastries and more! Hope to be back soon!
Been coming here for a while, definitely one my fave local cafes for pastries!! Their pastries taste so good, and has that touch of homemade taste to it :) My faves are pistachio carrot cake, croissant and the meat pie. I ve also ordered the pistachio carrot cake for birthdays, if anyone looking for that. It taste so unique.
Pleasant reworking of a unremarkable commercial space. Leaside prices would be appropriate for Bayview but not here.
I and my mom stopped in for coffee and treats before some errands. The staff used really good customer service and the treats were delicious.
Nice little place to have a croissant and coffee. Good quality.
Charming cornershop with delicious sandwiches and pastries. Highly recommend the beignets!
Best coffeeshop in town
So many incredible treats to choose from. Just be sure to check their hours before you head out. They always seem to be closed when I m craving them most.
Nice and delicious but $$$.
Good place to go for a good coffee, pastries and cake. I had a cortado coffe and a chocolate croissant. Both were really good.
Very good. A bit pricey but worth it for an occasional treat.
Their Flourless Brownies are the best brownie you will ever try! Also obsessed with their light and airy beignets.
Really nice staff. Possibly the best butter tarts Ive ever had.
Do you like baked goods? Then go here. Its so good. Cookies, biscuits, bread, brownies, sandwiches. All top notch. Parking can be tricky, but I promise, its worth it.
Best pumpkin pie I ve had in Toronto.
Really nice bakery, it s our local in Toronto. Nice coffee, beignets, sandwiches and bread- I d definitely recommend a visit!
Charming bakery Cafe in the Leaside area. I often drop in on my way to work as they do open around 9am from Wednesday to Saturday. They have great freshly made seasonal sandwiches and deliciously addictive butter tarts, beignets, scones & quiche. The assortment of croissants are also good. They offer an assortment of Sloan teas and coffee based drinks as well with milk alternatives. There is maybe one or two tables inside but when it s nice out they do offer outdoor patio seating. Not a lot of parking but you can also park across the street in the retail plaza. Definitely work a stop in to try their freshly baked goods.
Great bakery! Best buttertarts. Everything we ve tried is excellent.
So apparently this place is famous for their sandwiches but I ve already eaten before coming here so didn t get to try their sandwiches but tried their dessert options. Cream brûlée was torched before serving, and was creamy heaven with a bit of crunch. Flourless brownie was also very good. would definitely come back for more!
Great little bakery with delicious food and friendly service! I ordered a custom cake and it turned out beautiful and delicious. I wish it was a little more convenient to drop by (the location is a bit awkward to get to), but then I guess I would be gorging on pastries way too often. Parking: Not very many spots, may need to park across the street.
Best banquette ever.
Chicken pot pie was truly disappointing! We ve had many different items from here and all were excellent. Perhaps that s why we were so disappointed; the only vegetable other than a minimum amount of potatoes was carrots! It should have been described as carrot pot pie.
Great little bakery! They d benefit from more seating but it s easy to see they re in a small space and working with what they have. Loved the coffee and breakfast sandwich but they need a better system for seeing who is truly next in line.
I ve been coming here for years and it just keeps getting better and better. The croissants are unbeatable, in my opinion, and the beignets and scones are also fantastic. But what also keeps me coming back is the warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere that Charmaine and Dustin have created. This place really is a gem in Leaside.
Cute little pastry and coffee spot in Leaside. Not the most walkable area, and parking is limited too, but there are other lots in the area to park in. The croissants and donuts are tasty, but I do find the prices to be on the higher end. Still not bad for a treat.
Just tried their tourtière. Best in the city!! The flavour is amazing and the crust exceptional! Croissant was delicious! Staff was very helpful.
Great croissants. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the cornbread was too. Will be back for butter tarts!
Delicious baked goods! I was feeling a craving for sweets so I just Googled bakey near me and this popped up. Wow! What a hidden gem! Couldnt help myself and ordered 5 items and ended up eating 2 on the drive home! Bonus point for a parking lot. Easy in/out.
Fresh and delicious! So happy they re in my neighborhood
Ordered two sandwiches and a latte. The Italian Sandwich was as expected and the latte was enjoyable. The smoked salmon sandwich was minute, weighing almost nothing with a couple slices of salmon and a few thin cucumbers slices. Had to pick up something else to eat after, which is not what I expected after paying 13+ dollars for the sandwich alone. Would not recommend this sandwich for anyone looking for a satisfying lunch. I do recognize the quality of the baked food items here though. Hope others find this helpful.
Amazing local bakery serving up so many delicious sweet and savoury creations from viennoisseries, scones, cakes, sandwiches, soups, salads, and pot roast lasagna!Definitely recommend their beignets and butter tarts (which are likely the best I ve had and surprisingly not overly sweet).
Delicious Croissants Chocolate Croissant each $4.75 The tenderness and crunchiness are great, and they are a bit large.
I really love their Almond croissant. So yummy!
I love this bakery! Everything I have gotten from here has been delicious. Almond croissant is to die for..!
Everything I have purchased from this place is rich, flavourful, delicious and morw importantly, balanced in flavour. I tried the bigness, croissants, tarts, baguettes, sandwiches...all excellent! The service from the ladies is excellent very warm, welcoming and helpful, try them out if you get a chance.
Amazing coffee, great selection of sweet and savory foods and of course excellent service.
Fantastic croissants and macarons. One of the best bakeries in Toronto.
Youll like coffee here if you dont prefer sour beans. I love croissant here!! best best!
Delicious sandwich and pastry, the quiche was zmazing.
I ordered a quiche for Easter lunch with my friends. It was delicious and they followed the instructions: warm and ready to eat ;)
Would return. Got here a bit late right before closing, but looks like a nice little neighborhood staple for brunch as well as desserts. Key Lime was really refreshing, strong chocolatey base, smooth mousse. Takes AMEX.
Roast beef sandwich on half baguette the perfect bite when youre really hungry
Delicious pastry and coffee. Coat setting inside and outside. Big variety of sweet and savory treats, plus Breads, sandwiches and prepared meals like soups. Super friendly staff! Will be back :)
Excellent baking caffe!!
Desserts look amazing but sandwich and soup okay
One of the best breakfast sandwiches I ve had. Delicious, crumbly biscuit and the bourbon bacon jam was to die for.
A hidden gem in this neighborhood! They have a huge selection of high-quality baked goods and sandwiches, but you have to go early. They sell out fast.
This place offers delicious and high quality fresh baked goods and other small meals. Everything made is very good and won t let you down. Cozy small but bright business in Leaside. Very popular and busy, sells out fast. Would be 5 stars if not for a few reasons. The prices are quite high, even considering the quality. Easy to spend $10/15 on just a coffee and treat. The parking situation isn t ideal. Only about 4 spots which are always full though there is a plaza across the street you could walk over from, and there s no drip coffee which seems odd since they make all kinds of fancier drinks but I m sure plenty of people would want a plain coffee in the mornings. Will go back, but more of a special occasion place to me.
Top quality pastries and friendly staff
Delicious croissants and sandwiches. Too expensive though for a pastry shop.
Delicious beignet!!!
Delicious pastries and food here! But I find the ordering/check-out process quite slow and inefficient oftentimes, otherwise would be 5 stars
Amazing food...coffee...pastries etc...and staff is super friendly including the owner! A hidden gem
Absolutely love love the butter tarts! They are probably one of the best ones in Toronto! Other pastries are really yummy too!
We are frequent customers of this bakery. Its family owned and they put all their love and care into what they make. Best almond croissants in Toronto, Id say.
This cute little bakery cafe serves delicious and fresh foods. We tried the shakshuka and the farmers plate for lunch and they were so fresh, tasty and wholesome. We also bought an assortment of croissants and pasties for home and ate them the next day and they were still really good the next day. Service was friendly and helpful. There were plenty of seating both inside and outside but limited parking onsite. Overall, we are happy to find this locally run bakery in Leaside.
One of the best bakeries in Toronto!
The carrot cake is soooooo good. Cute shop, delicious treats, super friendly staff and owner
Staff are friendly, food is excellent, you can tell they use the best ingredients and they make all the stuff with love! Many bakeries these days have a factory cookie cut mentality and great to find one where they care what they made!
Really nice baked goods. The cherry danish had a really nice flakey and crispy pastry with a bit of chewiness to it. Breakfast sandwich was tasty and bacon jam was nice but would have preferred just bacon. The biscuit was lovely and fresh.
Youre going to want to try everything - goodness knows I tried to. For a Thanksgiving preorder, my family and I ordered: the turkey holiday meal, a beef wellington, two different apple pies, 5 types of sandwiches, a tea box to go, a beignet, two butter tarts, and a breakfast sandwich. With this variety, please trust me when I say that you cant go wrong. Everything was delicious! I mean everything - including the white meat. Were Asian - we dont even like white meat but this stuff was juicy as heck! I dont understand why other people complained about the prices. I think $25/person for the Turkey Meal was amazing. Sandwiches are made with home made ingredients, they have a huge staff all hustling, trying to keep up with all the walk in and pre orders. Everyone was so friendly, and everything was yummy. Why would you give less than 5 stars??
It was good, but not that special as other reviews said!
Great coffee!
The price point is a bit high but the quality is good, the breakfast sandwich is simple yet tasty. They have frozen pasta, pot pies... I will definitely go back and try them out and also the pastries!
Amazing pastry and savoury foods!
I stumbled upon Charmaines Sweets during the pandemic. Charmaine is devoted to her shop, and its clear that everything she creates is infused with a bit of herself and a whole lot of love. I particularly fell in love with her sourdough loaves. Toronto is filled with excellent bakeries that all sell great sourdough. Even so, Charmaines bread has the edge over all of them. Firstly theyre delicious. They have a beautiful soft and fluffy inside instead of being heavy and dense and are enveloped with a gorgeous crust that contrasts the interior. Perfect alongside stews, pasta, whatever or straight up as sandwiches. They are also available with a crust covered in seeds making for a scrumptious side alongside a bowl of soup or salad. Secondly shape. There is no waste with these breads. At a time when green bins are flowing over, Im mindful of limiting my organic waste. They are baked, so you can slice uniform pieces from one end to the other. Too many sourdoughs are round, thick and high, which doesnt permit consistent slices for sandwiches. Thirdly they last. The other sourdoughs Ive purchased have become very hard after a day or so. Charmaines can last up to five days, although in our house, they typically vanish after two. Even so, there were times we had a bit left after several days, and it was still fantastic, lending itself beautifully to be toasted and slathered with avocado, scape salt and olive oil or chopped up and cooked as delicious croutons. Lastly, they are vegan for anyone who is on a plant-based diet. Anytime our granddaughter visits, she asks for a slice of Charmaines bread covered with butter and jam. For a fussy toddler that is a testament all unto itself. Charmaines other baked goods are equally impressive. Her danishes are gorgeous. Fresh, crispy, and not wet, as some danishes or pastries can be with a lovely fruit topping. Her beignets are wickedly delicious. Her Hala bread makes for mouthwatering French toast. Though soaked in an egg batter, it cooks up fluffy and light. Too many gorgeous baked goods as well as soups and sandwiches in this fantastic small business located at this unassuming location at 115 Vanderhoof Avenue to speak about. A must-stop for what is the best sourdough bread in all of Toronto.
So good and the staff were very personable! When I arrived during lunch hour on a weekday, I got lucky and got one of the three remaining parking spots and the others were snagged immediately there after. It was a bit of a wait to be served during the lunch rush, so if youre planning to come, factor in some time in case of parking struggles and a long line. Picked up the organic chicken salad sandwich, hit the spot. Also tried the coconut creme tart - very coconut-y and yummy. Picked up a butter tart as well - I think these are popular but it wasnt my favourite, the crust was a bit grainy for me? The filling was a semi-solid jelly/gooey texture, and not runny, which I didnt mind, but overall it just wasnt my favourite. Looking forward to returning to try their other offerings though!
Horrifying experience at Charmaine Sweets. They didn t put the lid on my hot drink properly and it spilled all over me. I also asked them to sell me a mini quiche with no meat and they selected what was labelled as asparagus and I bit into it and it was HAM. As a vegetarian I was appalled. I will never come back here. Truly awful.
Just threw up their $17 roast beef sandwich. I know it was the sandwich because Ive had nothing else to eat today. Never again.
Found another great bakery to add to my list of favourites! All of the baked goods looked so delicious and fresh. I tried a Nutella beignet that was so yummy and my husband raved about his ham and cheese pastry. And their cappuccinos? SO good!
The breakfast sandwich in a scone is amazing !
Everything looked great BUT I found it expensive... I dont spare the expense but I did find the price high with no break if bought more. Those cookies better be good !!
Its a great place to visit after youve shopped your way through HomeSense and Marshalls in the plaza. They have plentiful amount of seating in their patio and a cute Tiffany blue aesthetic. They have sandwiches, frozen foods, soups and brunch foods along with their baked offerings. Almond Chocolate Croissant - They dont use great chocolate filling. You can taste the difference compared to other bakeries and waaaayyyy too much almond filling which doesnt taste too much like almond. Its practically spilling out, but the outside is a beautiful crunchy and slightly sticky exterior. Ham & Cheese Croissant - It was okay. Nothing mind blowing Overall - Id try if I were in the area but wouldnt make a trip just for this place.
Lovely bakery in Leaside. The butter tarts are OMG the best.
Best bakery!! Can do no wrong
Always a good experience, I love treating myself to some delicious baked goods when Im in the neighborhood. Highly recommend!
Superb quality and super-friendly staff & owner. Every they make is awsome! My faves: Best boston-cream!! Delicious chewy gingerbread chocolate chip cookie. Baguette is so good. Wicked breakfast sandwich with bourbon bacon jam.
Love Charmaine Sweets! A cozy great neighbourhood bakery with friendly service, delicious treats and sandwiches (we love their almond croissants and always pick up a few more for family) - we highly recommend coming here.
Been coming here for their chocolate almond croissants and its delicious. Tried their donuts for the first time today and honestly, theyre to die for. They were delicious. I highly recommend this bakey!
Charmaines provides delicious sweet and savory treats made on site with friendly, efficient service. A gem!
Ordered 2 Almond Croissants and a slice of Tiramisu today, I understand it was busy this morning but received a chocolate cake with raisins (we dont eat raisins ) instead of Tiramisu. It was a long drive and a long wait to get a Tiramisu, so a bit let down to not get the right order.
Really enjoy their wide selection of brunch and desert options. Though, not open Monday - Wednesday, I still highly suggest their food to everyone. Their mushroom & cheese croissants are to die for!
This is a neighborhood gem. We love everything they have to offer. Always fresh and delicious. Our favourite by far is the carrot pistachio cake. It s our go-to for every celebration. Have placed plenty of orders for cakes and they have never disappointed. Charmaine is personable, friendly and very accommodating with requests.
Excellent quality sweets. Had a blueberry scone- nice buttery taste, a little on the small side and not many blueberries. Beignet- cinnamon sugar was excellent, butter tarts were high quality, not filler. A little on pricey side vs other premium bakeries. Would stop by again when in the neighborhood. Staff are friendly. Not many parking spots. Place is nice and clean.
This ones based solely on their beignets! My friend picked these up for me and what a nice surprise! Told me I had to try their beignets and they were so soft and fluffy! These ones were plain and sprinkled with sugar Totally added this place onto google maps again cuz I really wanna visit this place and checkout more of what they have to offer! Local Leaside business that s got a lot of experience! Can t rate on service as I didn t actually go here, but if it s like their beignets, don t think the level of customer service will be far off!
