The Hermitage Bar in Edinburgh

Really disappointing Sunday Roast, cold, tough, potatoes werent roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding both burnt and cold. Bizarre considering the other reviews. Felt like it was last Sundays roast heated up. Expect better for the price, cant recommend.

I like this pub, good food and drinks, friendly atmosphere, but why are the tables so sticky? Sort it out, please!

Nice little gastropub, small inside so consider booking if you are eating. It is about a 10 minute walk from The Domion cinema so keep this place in mind if youre planning a cinema visit. Sorta typical Edinburgh prices - we were just shy of £200 for 5 people for lunch, with most of the group having a couple of alcoholic drinks too. I had the olives and bread to start, bread and oil/balsamic was nice but wasnt too keen on the olive dressing (a bit tangy, personal preference though). It was a Sunday visit so their special main was roast beef - served with broccoli, tatties, carrots, a huge yorkie and gravy. It was lovely. They had 2 special starters on that day too (which looks like they change weekly) - prawn cocktail and blackpudding & chorizo croquettes. 2 of the group got croquettes which went down a treat. The fish and chips was decent, big bit of fish and nice and tasty but chips could have been better. Nothing to complain about, nothing to rave about. Wheelchair accessibility: Probably a tight squeeze

Enjoyed a quiet pint here on a Friday afternoon. Has a laid back vibe which was nice and the beer was excellent if not exactly the cheapest. Staff friendly and efficient. Would make another visit in the future. Service : 5/5

Nice wee pub in morningside

Popped in for a quick drink after the football, ended up staying all evening because the service and atmosphere were just what we were looking for. Busy but not crowded, quiet enough to chat with low background noise. Just right.

Lovely modern pub a little away from the centre and therefor a little diamond. The staff is very pleasant, the pub itsself is very inviting and I wish I were a local here. One star less because I wasnt so happy about my food, never the less Ill come back anytime!

I am frequent customer on this shop. Totally disappointed and impolite service of those fat bar tender and purple hair lady. I do not recommend you all to visit this restaurant and not respect on to oversea people and non white .

Friendly service. Staff are fantastic and take great care with their customers. Unfortunately the food was not great and the meat tastes really like cheap cuts are used, too much salt is used on the pies and the chips. I would defo return for a drink but sadly wouldnt dine here again. Food : 2/5

The food... not good. Burger meat roasted and very dry. Very expensive quality-price... The service and atmosphere was good, and the dog allowed.

Nice sunday lunch. Good menu choice and reasonably priced. Roast beef was very good. Friendly staff.

Staff are not well looked after here. Customers without a booking are given attitude (girl with blue hair). Bookings are required, but the staff dont bother placing Reserved signs on the tables, nor do they have a sign asking customers to wait to be seated so youre supposed to guess. Another member of staff looked poorly but did their best. Hope they feel better soon. Seems like this place has a history of bad service.

I think I got unlucky the night I went here. Service was really slow and the used plates and glasses were all piled up at the bar, everything looking dirty and messy. The food was bad... We ordered nachos and I couldnt eat them so bad they were. And its not a cheap place so the bill made me even more unhappy. They were probably understaffed that evening, because the place looks great and it was busy so it makes you think its good, but I wouldnt go back and I cant recommend.

The staff were all incredibly lovely and attent. We had the nachos which were about £12 and was quite disappointed. For a simple dish at such a price, there wasnt a lot of cheese, guacamole, or salsa, there was however a tonne of sour cream which took up the majority of the dish. The nachos were also cold on arrival. Overall, the place and staff are fab but man, those nachos were a stab to my nacho-loving heart

Loved the food as much as the people here. Everyone was warm and welcoming, made us feel really at home. The feathred beef was absolutely delicious and the cheesecake made me even happier! Overall, very authentic vibe, beautiful food, great vibes I definitely recommend this place!

AMAZING FOOD. Highly recommend their truffle and bacon burger and feathered beef. Their desserts are to die for, so delicious. The vibe in this pub is really welcoming, safe and relaxing. Not to mention their music playlist is on point. Definitely coming back

Very enjoyable food. Quiet enough to enjoy your conversations not so quiet that you feel everyone can hear you. Very accommodating when we said we were in a rush!

Feather blade steak was great also the chocolate torte. Katsu chicken was also very good.

Lovely staff, disappointing food and not good for gluten free, ngci on menu but limited and definitely cross contamination so ok for preference but not allergens. Looks like a nice pub though Follow up,! I had an excellent response from manager after my negative experience so hope others try it and have a better experience and let us know

Nice pub with a clear but good menu. Good value for money for Edinburgh. However, the side dishes for the burger were a bit clear... Otherwise delicious.

After walking 4 of Edinburghs 7 hills, I needed a break and sustenance. The Hermitage Bar was in the right place at the right time and absolutely delivered. Great small plates selection and beers, including my new favourite Belgian beer Heverlee (works as a shandy!). Big, open, characterful bar space, friendly staff, delicious mushrooms on toast with proper chips

Good vegan paella as well as absolutely delish cocktails! The waitstaff were so friendly! Ill be back

Came here on a fluke. Staff were lovely and knowledgeable. I had the smash burger which exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Great food, great environment, great staff, highly recommend

Very nice neighborhood pub. Decent selection of beer & spirits. Didnt try the food so cant comment on that. Spent a time chatting to the manager who was really nice & accommodating. Itll be my first port of call if in the area again.

Went for drinks only. Food on observation looked like typical pub grub. Staff were very nice. Cocktails advertised were priced at extortionate rates.

It was nice. Drinks ranged from fine to really good. Dried orange slice is a very interesting and unusual garnish, and they made good use of it.

Had the famous Sunday Roast! Sirloin roast with all the trimmings and it was fantastic. Roast potatoes were delicious as well.

Popped in for a beer after a nice walk up blackford hills and hope to come back to try the food,The staff were very nice and place spotless.

We had drinks outside following Tuesday evening bike ride. First time here but felt like a nice place to visit.

Busy and friendly local bar. Beers are well kept. Food is OK. Updated. As a previous regular and with it being our closest local bar, Ive persevered with the Hermitage but its not like it was. Food is below average. Pub grub at best. It is not a gastropub. Beers are OK. Bar is poorly kept and tables not cleared. On a visit within the last fortnight, we placed an order at the bar but the staff were interrupted by a frustrated customer repeating the need for glasses to be cleared and the floor tidied up. The server never came back to us. We left. Stale, fried cooking smells are strong in the bar. The bar is full of empty glasses and sticky. Needs a new manager or the owner to take control.

Food is above average most of the time. Service is good and place is always lively. Main thing for me is it is child friendly and my daughter loves it and is well treated by all the staff. Kid-friendliness: My 8 year old daughter always chooses this place. Kids menu and always a few kids in at tea time.

Great cosy pub in the heart of Morningside, food and drinks were great. Great selection of beers and spirits including scottish whiskies and gin, I would highly recommend if you are in the morningside area. Vegetarian options: Plenty of options available

Upmarket gastro pub. Food tends to be a bit different from usual pub stuff. Parking: Its Morningside, so parking is difficult. Some free short term parking on east side of Braid Rd. Kid-friendliness: Family and dog friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Slightly awkward access, but dont be put off.

Beautiful pub like a french bistro, well decorated and spacey. We had a nice coffee and tea along with a very tasty pudding We came back for lunch which was also good quality food. Really kind service by Judith and Marnie

A first time visit to this Morningside bar which wont be our last. Lovely bar with a great selection of Scottish premium spirits and lagers. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly.

Great pub, food and atmosphere

Decent selection of draughts, good cocktails etc too. Food is average at best , highly overpriced for what it is. Atmosphere is a bit dull, maybe turn off the TVs if you re not showing anything in particular. No one wants to watch how many people have died on the news while they are trying to enjoy a pint. Staff and service however is really good !

Family friendly bar close to entrance to the Blackford Hermitage nature reserve with good selection of food and drink on offer, with guest casks and a tasty menuselection. Helpful and friendly staff who deliver good service.

Superb service. Atmosphere amazing. Food outstanding. And to top it all the wines are delicious. Red ones anyhow. Back once again. The haddock is outstanding. But it is after all from Welches at Newhaven.

The staff here are too busy with their own self importance and have forgotten about customer focus. It s a pity that the COVID procedures are so clinical that simple customer acknowledgement and involvement has been forgotten.

I wish to say that this place is absolutely amazing. The food is great. Fish and chips is better than in many of high rated restaurants. Service is nice and friendly. All the best to the business and many thanks.
