On 14th December 2024, my wife and I visited this restaurant second time. All foods were good and all staff were very kind. We enjoyed very much our lunch in there. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!
The staff in this Pizza Express are really great. Very naturally friendly and helpful. - We were here on a Wednesday night and the place packed a bit of atmosphere but our meal was tasty. I would return just because of the staff though as we were made to feel very welcome.
As regular customers of 10+ years, we were disappointed with our recent weekday visit. Despite visible empty tables, we were turned away without any explanation or alternative suggestions for timing. While we could see the staff member was under pressure and stressed, this wasn't the welcoming experience we've come to expect from Pizza Express. I hope this was just an off night, as we've enjoyed many good meals here over the years.
The children described it is the happiest birthday party they had ever attended. The waiters Robert were very experienced in leading the activities and the atmosphere was great. The children made pizza together They also played games and competition of designed the chef hat.
Tasty pizza, located in a truly authentic place - church. Good service. Impressively very clean toilets. Recommend.
Interior was fantastic, looked gorgeous and was clean. Service was impeccable, our server was lovely and chatty and took wonderful care of us - checked we could have certain dishes the way we wanted and gave us A+ recommendations when certain items were unavailable. The food was also delicious, having been the only member of my party to have not come to Pizza Express before I agree with my fellow diners that it is awesome. Also had some crayons and a booklet for our kiddo which is always a plus.
Great pizza but absolutely shocking customer service from the Manager Kamila . We were overcharged by £17 and the manager was incredibly rude and tried to say it was our fault. She then couldn't find how to put the correct codes into the till to rectify the problem. Another member of staff tried to help her out, and she screamed at him and told him to go away , absolutely shocking. The poor guy was just trying to help. Our waiter Lukas was fab and very helpful.
What an amazing building. It has a unique space with high ceilings. Although on one side it is a shame that it's a pizza place (when it could be a music hall) on the other side it's great that the building is being used. The pizza is good, the service is efficient and what you would expect from Pizza Express. I'm giving it 5 stars because I really enjoyed it and it is what I expected. I would recommend it for a casual pizza night.
My daughters favourite gf place
Starters came out in batches on 3. People had already finished. We were a table of 8.
Pizza very disappointing. One base was overcooked and the other there were 2 bases together. Toppings very skimpy. Poor value and poor quality
Soooo good and welcoming place Must visit
Terrible... Got a BBQ chicken pizza delivered, they put beef chunks on it instead of chicken and there were 2 pizza bases instead of 1.. butchered it completely. A frozen pizza is better
Took over an hour to deliver, (we live 20 minutes away). Pizza was cold and pepperoni was burnt, and dough was like rubber. Do not reccomend.
Visited with a group that included five 1 years olds to celebrate a birthday for an early lunch. We were told to keep the babies quiet which is very disappointing for what is ostensibly a family friendly restaurant.
We held our daughters birthday party here and were extremely happy with the package. The manager & staff organised & hosted it brilliantly and were very accommodating & laid back about the whole thing. Highly recommend for a kids party (and of course for a causal meal!)
Friendly service. Lovely food. Nice venue. Deserves to be busier.
Ridiculously overpriced, ordered a £15 pizza and when it came I knew instantly it wouldnt be enough, the dough is good but toppings have little taste and wanted more food when I finished... service was okay but we ordered dessert and 10-15 minutes later had to order again as they had clearly forgotten about it.... a pint bottle of beer was 7.25... was an okay experience overall but not worth further visits
Always an enjoyable time and experience. Such lovely and attentive staff and a really nice atmosphere. Food was amazing as well!
One of the worst pizzas I ever had, it was tasteless no sesoning at all only pepper (i have ordered margerita pizza). The dough was chewy as well. It was home delivery sa the quality could drop, that is only why I given 2 stars no 1.
Food is so bad its worse than just cooking a frozen pizza at home. On top of that its like £15 for a pizza???? Theyve gotten too big for their boots, preying on fools who will keep paying these prices for the worst pizza. This pizza express is just round the corner from Matto, which is significantly cheaper and serves actually good nice pizzas. Do yourself a favour and avoid this godawful place, go somewhere that will treat you with the respect you deserve.
5/5
A beautiful restaurant inside an old church. Mid-afternoon visit but service and food were all fantastic. The only people in at one point which is why the atmosphere only scored 4 but Im being very harsh with that.
It was the best birthday party so far! My daughter celebrated her 8th birthday today. The organization was perfect, kids were always busy, had fun making their own pizzas, eating them and ice cream at the end! But our main amazement and admiration was Rob!! He made this party fantastic!! Daria was helping the kids a lot as well, but all the entertainment was on Robert! He is not only a professional chef but also very good with kids! I would highly recommend these place for your little ones! 10/10!
absolutely lovely place for a family lunch, Joanna is the kindest warmest server, thank you!
Food is great anything made fresh is always great. I have no problem tipping but when I get served by one person, not 3 different people and when its a change of shift
This was the PE in Morningside. Really good place.
Very good
The food was actually unexpectedly good, especially the barbecue chicken pizza and halloumi bites. The billionaires sundae was great to share, not too sweet. Dont recommend the rainbow slaw though - the cabbage was bitter - everything else was pretty nice.
We ve been coming to this pizza express regularly with my son throughout the years. Yesterday, me and my partner were chased outside by the manager and asked if we had paid for the meal. The rudeness of the situation was such we were speechless. Worth saying we were asked to move table before the end of the meal, to which we agreed (albeit, not have been told that table was booked when we sat down). I won t be able to shake that feeling and go back again. I m giving 2 stars to acknowledge the kind waiter who served us and that we know for a long time.
Dietary restrictions: GF Dough balls, bases and pasta Food
Ignorant, incompetent and down right rude, manager walked away while I was talking to her, really shocking behaviour, waited 30 mins for take out pizza which had been ordered 30 mins before that.
Casual family meal. Good place to go. Parking: Nearby streets offer spaces. Free in the evening. Food : 4/5 |
Amazing staff, we arrived with a screaming toddler and they were nothing but kind and helpful throughout our lunch, food was delicious and waiters were all wonderful.
Our server, George, made the night! Great fun, friendly, attentive, knowledgeable! Oh, and the vegan pizzas were tasty too Dietary restrictions: Good vegan options.
Super good
Always good but not 5star
Lovely friendly team and great food.
Staff only used about one third of available tables and consequently we ended next to a table of 4 unsupervised boisterous 10 yearolds. Food was good but it wont be a future branch of choice.
The waiter was the best part- overshone the food by a long shot, which was tasty too.
Went on Hogmanay, staff great as always, food great too
Pizzeria located in an unusual location. The pizzas are good and plentiful. The service is cool, very attentive.
Lovely pizza express. Slotted into an old church but the integrity of the building remains, it has been sympathetically converted into a dining and restaurant area. Great service and lovely staff.
This Pizza Express is in a really beautiful old church and is tastefully modernised. What I really appreciate is being able to order ahead: we have four young so cant spend too long hanging around. Kids love the little section at the side of the kitchen where the pizza chefs give them little pieces of dough to knead/play with.
Very disappointed just had delivery food was stone cold driver didnt even have it in hot food bag , Had to warm it up which made pizza not worth eating complete waste of money also said be delivered between 8pm to 8.20pm arrived after 9pm .
Best pizza Ive had in Scotland. Excellent will be back for more.
We had our 9yo s birthday party in Pizza Express Morningside on 21 Jan 2023. The Manager who served was the perfect party host, he remembered the names of every guests and made the pizza making fun, enjoyable and delicious. The rundown was perfect and all of us had a fantastic time.
My experience was good made to feel at ease. One of the waiters got our order wrong and thought I didnt want a starter this was quickly rectified. One of the waiters George was very nice
Friendly staff good ambience
Thanks for the birthday party of my son. Great entertainment we had so much fun. Rob , one of the managers was absolutely fantastic! The kuds really enjoyed it!
Good place to eat in the Morningside neighborhood, with good pizzas and very friendly staff (thanks Pablo). In addition, the place is incredible, located in an old church, it maintains decorations that give atmosphere to the place. When we return to Edinburgh we will definitely repeat to continue trying dishes Kid-friendliness: Good place to go with children
Really nice venue creates a nice atmosphere. Pizzas were great, and service was quick. Was able to swap toppings to suit. Best Pizza Express in Edinburgh.
Went with my family of two young kids last Friday for dinner and had a great meal. Food was perfect, came out within good time and all the staff were attentive and friendly
The location is lovely, as are the staff. The restaurant is child / family friendly and very clean but the pizza is really over priced and did not taste authentic. There are so many good independent pizza restaurants in Edinburgh I would not return. Pizza express charge £15.95 for a small pizza which really is no better or fresher than a pizza from a supermarket is very disappointing. My son and friends all ordered Romano style thin / crispy base pizza which were brought out all burnt round the edges ? I was very surprised that they felt this was acceptable to serve. It was a busy Saturday evening, but really a pizza restaurant needs to have great pizza Kid-friendliness: Yes is seemed very child friendly
Great décor Grand service Very relaxing atmosphere The food was perfect as always when we come here
The calzone was unreal! I usually get pizzas but on the waiters recommendation I tried the calzone and it s become my favourite thing on the menu! Overall, everything was so lovely! The food is always really good and the service was amazing, the interior of this particular Pizza Express really makes it too. The only thing that was a wee bit of a bother was the waiter(possibly manager as he wasn t wearing a uniform) told us it would be a 15 minute wait but the restaurant was mostly empty and another couple who came after us were sat down even though they didn t have a booking. Thought perhaps they didn t want us there but every other member of staff was lovely!
Still a great place to eat albeit the prices are creeping up and up. Still will NEVER understand why they dont have platewarmers. Time and time again my partner receives her piping hot food on COLD plates. By the time she is half way through her meal she is eating cold pasta / pizza. Not pleasant and she often leaves 1/2 of it.
I popped for my favourite pizza. Food was amazing. My lovely server Grace was absolutely delightful. Overall great experience... as always.
Gorgeous building, fantastic staff, food as delicious as always.
Good food but was put off by the Italian cook being over friendly towards one of the waitresses, who was obviously uncomfortable.
This was much better than I expected. We had a family meal here courtesy of Tesco clubcard points. Absolutely excellent food, great service and we didnt feel rushed at all. It was Sunday so a lot of families.
Loud music, cold pizza and rude staff. Did a mistake in our order and only said sorry. Never cared to fix it. Wont be back
A fantastic meal in a beautiful building! Our service was great - the manager gave us personal recommendations for the pizzas and even paired the wine to our order. Excellent halloumi bites also! We will be back
Stunning place to eat at. worth the money and overall great food
We had a great family dinner here, food was all delicious, big portions. Lucas was a personable and professional server. We ll be back next time we re in Edinburgh.
The place was empty
Fantastic staff, great banter between everyone working! Delicious food and wonderful atmosphere!
Great pizza.
Had a lovely meal, the staff were great and service was really good.
Great service and great food. The waiters here are very good at their job
Very tasty.
Very tasty pizza! Nice selection and quick service. You can go there or order/take something away.
Pizza Express in Morningside is not our usual outlet from Pizza Express as we normally go to Victoria Terrace when in town. When in Bruntsfield/ Morningside area we would go to MATTO on Morningside Road for pizza but unfortunately they were too busy and had a queue out the door. The restaurant had a fairly Good atmosphere and the waiter was friendly but as it got busier smaller tables were ignored over bigger parties of custom. The pizzas were so thin you could barely pick them up as they just collapsed & were slightly burnt because they were so thin. We always get romana pizza so there is definitely a difference between this restaurant and other Pizza Express in town.
Should be called pizza delayed rather than express considering just how long it takes for the food to come out! You re left for an hour to sip on drinks and feel sick by the time the meal comes out. Deliveroo is evidently prioritised
is this for real ? this pizza is so thin there s a hole in it. chewy cold burnt won t even call it pizza. don t order from here. chose somewhere else
Always friendly & helpful service. I opted for the American hot & it was hot! Food : 5/5
The food was lovely, the service was excellent; the young lady we had first made a point of making our daughter feel really special on her birthday(6), and then the tall bearded gentleman that brought her sundae, stuck a candle in it and came over singing happy birthday- pure class! Thank you very much, she was talking about it up till bedtime!
Pizza is fine but prices are quite high
Very overpriced, coffee and soft drinks were very expensive
As reliable as ever and a pleasure to visit.
Really enjoyed the food, members of staff were great
Came here for an end of term celebration with a friend and we had a lovely meal!! We shared the hot honey dough balls which were incredible; the honey works really well. We had a Romana pizza for a main which was the perfect size, and of course we had to get stracciatella ice cream for pudding. All round excellent food . And we were served by George whos energy really made the whole experience perfect. He was extremely welcoming and was super willing to answer any questions we had. Its really admirable how enthusiastic he is and how he genuinely talks to each customer. Thanks for a lovely meal and we hope to come back again soon :))
The four cheese pizza was very sweet, couldnt really taste the cheese itself. Not the best
My favourite pizza express in edinburgh is this one
Was very nice, was not too busy.
The Morningside branch sits in a particularly lovely converted church.
Great table service, good food. Some of the dessert options werent available but not a big deal.
Really enjoyed our lunch here. Used the pizza express app which made it really easy and was able to pay most of it with my tesco vouchers. Staff friendly and helpful. Will be back.
Terrific.
Ok
Pizza and menu its great!!!
Pizzas are delicious ! This is not the problem The problem is your partner Deliveroo! We order for 40£, I was waiting 5 minutes before outside to be ready and the delivery never come We wait 1h for nothing, that s a shame ! Pay attention to the peuple you Work with!
Not good-.waited 45minuyea for meal.- my pizza was cold - service very very slow. Would think twice about repeating a visit
Courteous staff and quick service
Grandchildren love this place
Great pizza! Great location! Beautiful building! Nice staff! Can t complain!
One of my favourite favourite pizza expresses. Staff lovely and attentive. Food great. Will be back
Really tasty and nice.
AWFUL. I ordered a delivery of pollo pesto pasta from Deliveroo. It came within good time. However, the disappointment arose upon receiving the order. I had requested cutlery and there was none in the package, this was an issue as I was at work and there was no cutlery there. I called up and told the guy but he didn t seem to care. This was a minor issue but the biggest issue then came when tasting the food. The first bite was horrible resulting in that first bite also being the last bite. I couldn t believe this was the level of food I had been sent. The pasta was both rubbery and crunchy at the same time, as if the pasta had been made weeks ago and just added to the sauce. I have had this pasta at other branches and normally love it. So when I called the Morningside restaurant and explained what had happened I was shocked to find that the guy on the line didn t really care about the feedback I was giving him. There was no empathy or sorrow in his response and I feel really let down by this Pizza Express experience. Do better or shut down.
Pizza and ice cream beautiful
Food good as always, friendly and smiling waitresses.
Staff are always friendly
Great food as usual. Service slow as usual.
Great use of Tesco Vouchers. Great food and very good for families with something on the menu for everyone.
We were served by George - who was Amazing fantastic and the definition of modesty! Fantastic gentleman went above and beyond for our needs despite obviously being incredibly busy! Meal, drinks and desserts were delicious and would happily return! Thank you again George! Vegetarian options: Delicious vegetarian (vegan?) brownie
Food good. Surprisingly very expensive for the food and drinks we got compared to some other pizza places in Edinburgh. Staff friendly and efficient.
Really enjoyed it. Part of a group of eleven and still the service was relevant and good and the food excellent
Excellent value and friendly staff. (A tip especially pizza, is to ask for the plate to be warmed , and saves it from becoming cold before finishing). Just wish we are now post pandemic, that salt and pepper can be on the table and parmesan offered as in the old days.
Lovely food and service. Deserts too. Yum .
This particular venue is interesting. Its located in an old church and if you are a fan of Muriel Spark you will love all the quotes on the walls from The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.
Great pizza!
Rather overpriced for the quality offered.
Lovely place! My diah was delicious
Good food. Friendly staff.
I just been order for takeaway 2 pizza wait 15 mint nobody come to take order they have only 3 table inside all waiters talk each other wast of time
Firstly, the setting is lovely - theres no getting away from it. The building is clearly an old church; you can still see the organ above the kitchen which for some reason made me really happy! Secondly, the staff were absolutely amazing and made us feel really welcome. Lastly, the food was, as usual, really good. Its a shame that the average price these days for a Romana pizza is £14, but I suppose thats a sign of the time more than anything else, and I still have no regrets. Well definitely be back another time!
So great for the kids and service always great.
Really good quality and excellent venue.
Nice and very good pizzas . Childrens menu Kid-friendliness: They have cooking hats for them and for painting.
Great quality pizza and a beautiful building
The staff were really really friendly and did all that can be expected Kid-friendliness: Super friendly .. Food : 4/5 |
We had our first experiance at a Pizza Party here and was not dissapointed, kids were 5 and 6 and were kept entertained through out! Activity booklet with colouring in and hats to design! Very interactive and kids had fun listening and making pizzas which were all delicious
Very grateful for all your attention to detail in helping our party enjoy our evening. Having a quiet table, with music speaker turned down and the loop system meant my mother could enjoy the conversation despite deafness. Thank you, we will be back!
The only reason Im giving any stars is because of the very pleasant service and the amazing building. We visited at 5.30 on Saturday booked for a quick meal before the theatre. Four of us ordered 3 pizza margaritas and one canneloni. No starters as we were due at the theatre. Sadly the pizzas were appalling. No self respecting Italian would have served them. In fact they looked like they had been handmade by 5 year olds. We were spoken to by the manager see you again? Sadly no, and if we had more time I would have said something. Pizza Express it may be, but please think about your quality.
Great for an early evening meal. Parking: On street parking with meters. Kid-friendliness: Very child friendly, with good menu and activity sheets
Nice place great food served by lovely staff
Haphazard service and cold pizza.
The food was great and the service and attention to detail was excellent
Covid compliant, friendly staff and good food
Fantastic pizza and superfast Deliveroo delivery! Id forgotten how great your restaurant pizzas were! Five stars.
Good to see the shop open but it feels tired inside. Sticky seats. Menu also seems more limited than before.
I have ordered pizzas for delivery. I was given an estimate time of arrival between 5pm-5:15pm. Every time I check, the delivery time is getting later and later. I contacted deliveroo and not even getting an apology. Shocking service. Do not order from them.
We really enjoy the food here. Our favourite chain restaurant.
cool
Best calzone
A best pizza ever
By far the best waiter - George - which is why I return here time after time. The food here is also consistently better than many other PEs(with the exception of Stockbridge which matches it!) In particular the Salad nicoise at morningside always seems more generous and well presented.
Pizzas. Yes.
If you like converted churches or caffè reale (figs with mascarpone), this is your pizza place
What a wonderful building!! Great friendly and helpful staff. Good arrived promptly and tasted great.
Good pizza, quite big though struggled a bit!
Excellent meal and service.
Great food, fabulous building and fine staff
Food tasty. Dont be in a hurry as it takes a while to be served. Kids loved it.
The best calabresa I had
We all love it here great food and thanks for making my favourite dish chicken boscolo salad as I know its no longer on the menu and very good staff Thanks
Lovely venue, typical good standard of food, staff were run off their feet...
I like pizza express in Morningside mainly because the sell gluten free pizza as well as normal pizza but I dont think the customer service is very good. This is ultimately a fast food restaurant that isnt fast. If they want to justify the prices, I would suggest much better customer service. We sat and waited for around 15 minutes after we had finished eating before the bill was brought, and when it was, it was laid on our table. We then waited a further 15 minutes and no one offered to take payment so I had to walk toward the till and stand and wait while my family waited outside for me. The gluten free pizzas are nice enough but when your 12 year old son has a pizza twice the size of yours its tells a tale about the size of the GF variety. Supposedly made in their factory, then why so small? Overall 7/10 for service 7/10 for food. Would be higher for food if I was eating the non GF variety.
Usual pizza express food: freshly made (you can see it being made), good range of pizza toppings, some that are unusual. Best of all is the building itself, lovely location away from main road and converted round shaped church. Coffee is the reason for only 4 stars. There are much better coffee shops nearby
Food is pizza express standard, but the building is a magnificent place to eat and worth it for that alone. Staff were stressed/rushed but friendly and helpful.
Fantastic service and food!
You always get good food and good service
Wasnt keen on it
Nice ambience.
Very good, everyones food was great, except mine was a little over baked ...
Great service! Very good Pizza. Not cheap though.
Great place for families with young children. Friendly staff with nice food. The kids can sit on bar stools and see their pizzas being made. Good value. Service was a bit erratic this evening but the waiter put it right.
Good service
My 600 calorie pizza was delicious
Outstanding service, and their Covid measures are amazing.
Great service and delicious dinner
An unusual venue for a restaurant but memorable
Special pizzas
Nice Pizza
