West End Brasserie in Edinburgh

Beautiful location, very attractive inside. The gentleman does not enjoy his work, he clearly shows that, which is a shame! Had to wait a long time for our latte coffee. Lunch, 3 small pancakes from the microwave, far from fresh, with dirty sauce from the bottle and scones cold and hard, in short worthless!

Refurbished since I was last in. Comfy seats and round tables which are fabulous when you are in a crowd Parking: This restaurant is at the west end of Edinburgh and parking works be practically impossible.

Food amazing, definitely recommending all the main dishes (like duck or aubergine), but the sticky toffee pudding was the most disgusting thing I have ever had. It tasted like burnt buckwheat.

The room is very well furnished. The food is good. Unfortunately, I cannot give any further stars regarding the service as we finished eating and no one asked us if we wanted a dessert and we had to wait 20 minutes to ask for the bill.

Such a shame. The food was lovely but the service was confused. We had a lovely table near the window and lots of room but we had four different waiters and had to chase up food and drink. Food : 5/5

They were very busy, but service was beyond slow, with some of us getting drinks then the rest having to wait then chase for theirs. Waiting staff were lovely, such a shame they were so overwhelmed. Food so so. Avoid the brownie, it was solid and stone cold.

Popped in this morning before I set off on a shopping spree. I had toast and a cappuccino. Toast was lovely and crispy. The staff were very attentive and could not have been more helpful. The restaurant itself is very clean and tidy. I had a window seat and people watched. There was no pressure to leave after I finished, very relaxing start to my day.

My wife and I stayed in a nearby hotel for a few days and went everyday to the West End Brasserie for breakfast. Theres a good choice of dishes available, and we tried quite a few. We really enjoyed our breakfast, the staff was very friendly, great service. Highly recommended!

Stop in for a late lunch. Delightful atmosphere with table service. Menu and setting were a nice break from the noise and chaos of pubs - yet prices were comparable and the quality of food outstanding. Would definitely go again.

We ordered 4 full Scottish breakfasts and one eggs benedict, all took 50 minutes to arrive ( with one breakfast actually taking 20 minutes more as our order was noted wrongly. The eggs benedict had solid poached eggs, one full breakfast instead of having scrambled eggs had what was clearly a chopped up fried egg on the plate ! Bacon was burned on all four plates and sausages were dry. A lot of money for very substandard food. Tea ordered was also wrong but coffee was good. When I asked at the bar if I could talk with someone about the mixed up orders and the very long wait for one breakfast I was ridiculed by a young girl behind the bar (not our waitress who was nice). They did however charge for 3 breakfasts not four) . We will never go back - ever

We ended up here looking for lunch. Upon entering the first impression was good, very attractively decorated and beautiful ceiling. Selected a table with a view of the street, nice place. Ordered some drinks, staff was friendly and it was served nicely. Then a visit to the toilet made me decide not to order food. The mens toilet had a sticky floor, didnt smell fresh and there were small flies flying. Then we paid and continued searching. The rest of the experience was good, too bad. Maybe because of the hustle and bustle of the tattoo and street festival?

Went to the Wend End Brasserie this week and was deeply disappointed by the service and cleanliness of the place. We came in last Tuesday around 12:30, our server was very rude and short with us. She made feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable being there. The booth she sat us down was dirty and had crumbs on the chair. Additionally, the tea cup also was dirty. I ordered ice cream but they made us wait forever for a scoop of ice cream that we decided to just leave. This experience was very disappointing because I have been here before for breakfast and I really enjoyed the food and the service and wanted to come again but unfortunately we didn t get the same experience this time.

A nice stop for breakfast even later in the morning. Eggs Royale was perfect. The smoked salmon and hollandaise was outstanding.

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat on our arrival to Edinburgh. Had the Scottish breakfast. Pretty sure their haggis had gone foul - probably the worst thing Ive ever had. Haggis elsewhere was good. Otherwise a nice establishment. Drinks were good, and friendly staff

Super lunch menu served 12 to 5 with a plat du jour each day for £20 including a glass of wine. Its Thursday so I enjoyed the steak frite and a glass of red at 2.30pm for just £20. Lovely waitress. Lovely interior and a few outside seats to watch the Edinburgh world go by. Looking forward to returning.

Lovely spot- Plat du jour is great value!! Staff were warm, knowledgeable and happy to help. Nothing was too much bother. There were several large groups in and only 3 staff but all staff were excellent and made our table of 2 feel very cared for. Would definitely recommend and will be back!

Went in a group. Totally overpriced food - £14 for an average cheese toasted sandwich. Staff never smiled or interacted with us the entire time we were there. When we left we went to pay and we split the bill. 10% gratuity for the entire bill was added to the last persons bill without any advice. Only realised as it seemed strange that the waiter did not show me how much I was being charged on either the bill or the card machine. I went back and queried at which time I was told I could get a refund of the amount - as it is a voluntary tip! Totally dodgy! There are literally hundreds of other places to eat! Do yourself a favour and keep walking.

Loved this restaurant so much, the fish and chips is sooo yummy. Also tried the smoked salmon open sandwich and it tasted great too. The staff are so welcoming and very friendly.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place because it didn t look like much but the food is incredible and the staff is very helpful. I would highly recommend it if you re an Edinburg.

It is an elegant, welcoming place that, for the same price as many places, offers a higher quality service and food. I want to give a special mention to the people who took care of us: Alex and a girl whose name I didnt catch. They have been very kind and very professional.

I went through walk-in, had a pinacola mocktail, and for starters, I ordered potato cheese, which was amazing, followed by a veggie salad that was also delicious, and finished with afagato ice cream. Id want to refer my friends for the fish and chips and salad item. Vegetarian options: Very limited for vegetarians

The location is great , with a beautiful view , but the service and quality of food was terrible . My coffee came already cold ( one hair came in my saucer ) , the pineapple juice was the worst and I couldn t drink . Tasted like bad pineapple . The breakfast plates took almost an hour to get to our table and was missing one plate to one of us. I usually don t write reviews but I couldn t not to write because I want the restaurant to improve the poor service .

I recently had an exceptional dining experience at west end brasserie in Edinburgh. The service was impeccable, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure a memorable evening. A special mention goes to the manager, who personally made me an Irish coffee just like they do in Ireland absolutely fabulous! The warm and welcoming atmosphere, combined with the outstanding service, makes west end brasserie a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Location good and staff helpful but quality of food not that great

The best thing about the place is undoubtedly the attention and location, the same cannot be said about the food. As delicious as it is, its better to go to any Italian restaurant nearby where you can eat better and cheaper.

Worst decision ever to choose the West End Brasserie for a business lunch. We ordered 1 steak sandwich and 1 ham sandwich. It took 30 min for the wrong order to be dropped at our table - just one order, mind you, no sign of the ham and cheese. When we tried to rectify the issue, the waiters were blaise at best. The manger on duty was lovely and apologetic, however, we left completely confused and starving. Luckily, Greggs is right across the street, so I didnt have to go my entire work day without eating. Unreal.

AVOID. No Atmosphere. Staff clueless including the manager. Food shockingly bad. Nice building but that s it.

Wanting to grab something at lunchtime and finding ourselves just at this end of Princes Street we chose West End Brasserie as it seemed well set up. A mixed bag. Attentive service but with some things lost in translation. I chose Haggis balls and a goats cheese and beetroot salad, my son asked for the six oysters and a bloody Mary, my daughter in law had a Caesar salad and my wife the braised leek tartlet. I was fine, though my salad had an imbalance of leaf to cheese. My sons oysters had no mignonette and his bloody Mary changed into three small tumblers of a bloody Mary sauce - IE tomato juice and a dash of worcestershire sauce. My daughter in laws ceasar had a boiled egg added but the real issue was the braised leek tart. This arrived looking quite pretty but the leeks were raw, chopped and sitting in a pastry base. Upon querying this she was told that this was the way they served it - a brasserie leek tart. Now the menu says braised and it has to be asked who in their right minds would serve raw leeks yet describe them on the menu as braised. To be fair the meal was removed from the bill but this is the kind of error that no restaurant purporting to be a brasserie should make.

Fantastic food and service. Atmosphere was great for a family celebration.

The service was fine and the atmosphere was nice, but the food was really appalling. I got the gluten free Eggs Benedict. This was comprised of two untoasted pieces of white bread, store bought ham, and pre-made, cold hollandaise. The poached eggs also tasted very strongly of apple cider vinegar. For £11, it just really wasn t worth the cost.

Went here for Sunday brunch with a large group of friends. Even though they were busy they managed to accomodate 12 of us with out a reservation. Staff were very attentive and polite. Food was lovely and large portions so although some may say a little pricey its well worth the money as you get alot of food. Would highly reccommend and would defo come back

Went to breakfast/brunch on Sunday 18th Feb. Most of us had a bacon roll, 1 person had granola and I had an almond croissant. Bacon rolls and granola were good, croissant was excellent we all had tea and/or coffee. Service was attentive and efficient.

Atmosphere is beautiful. Food is tasty. Staff are friendly but service was very poor. We waited 45 minutes for drinks (Americano and latte) and had finished our food when they finally arrived! Staff absence was mentioned and the drinks were kindly taken off the bill. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and returned two days later, this time the food took 50 minutes with numerous items forgotten conpletely. Shame as the ambience and food are great.

I was not satisfied with this Brasserie. The staff was hasty to the point of being correct. I had to suggest a solution to allow 6 of us to eat (joining two tables had not even been proposed). They put anchovies in the salad and not anchovies, a tacky mistake. I was very annoyed by the fact that some customers who entered after our group were served a dish that we were told was not available... I dont understand why. Another point of demerit is that when paying they checked that the tip had been entered (it had been placed automatically without my knowledge), I would not have given it to them given their behavior

This shop is an absolute recommendation! The food is unbelievably delicious, the service is very friendly and polite, and the atmosphere is magical. Would come back to the West End Brasserie anytime when were in Edinburgh again.

We just ate and I can only say positive things. From the moment you enter, the attention is special, to detail in everything and very good quality. All the super close treatment and the white wine that they recommended to us was delicious and we always highlight Jans attention and friendliness. To repeat

Overall it was a nice experience, the food was a bit dry but the waiter was really kind. We enjoyed the music they played and the astethics of the place. We booked a table for 2 and got placed in a corner, pretty close to a couple other tables.

Gave this place a second chance after our last poor experience. Sadly, the service was still awful: waited 30 mins after ordering food, only to be told that the order was incorrect / mistaken and we would have to wait even longer. We left and went elsewhere .

Very overpriced for what it was, we ordered sirloin steak and it was tough and fatty, Ive had better rump steaks from the supermarket, we were not impressed at all. Also, the waitress started clearing plates whilst others were still eating which we found odd. I had a glass of wine which was nearly £13 a glass and it came warm. It just isnt good enough especially when youre adding yourselves on a service charge at the end too, I dont mind paying for a decent meal but this just wasnt it. Make your steak sauce pots bigger, it had hardly any sauce in it and was awkward on the plate as it was curved.

First course arrived very late then nearly an hour later got our mains cannot fault food but wont be back !!

The view of castle is amazing, but it was outdone by the incredible flavor of the Cullen skink. It is one of the best soups I have ever had. My entire table ended up ordering a bowl after tasting mine. So delicious.

Absolutely loved The West End. Attentive, fun, and kind wait staff (Kate especially). The skink soup was out of this world. If we were allowed to order an entire vat of it to our table we would have. Highly recommend.

Very very slow service. Waited for over an hour for the food service. Drinks were served warm as they were sitting at the bar counter for nearly 15 mins before somebody decided to serve it to us. Overly priced.

The hotel I booked didnt have breakfast, so I came here for brunch. The atmosphere was nice and I had a satisfying breakfast. It was a meal of Scottish haggis and black pudding served with toast. It was a very large portion, so it would be a good idea to share it if you are with a friend. I was also satisfied with the attentive and friendly service.

Rude staff. The bartender was rude and wouldnt answer a simple question.

Had late night dinner here with my wife while visiting Edinburgh. Staff was helpful and made sure our food allergies were taken into account, and dish modified accordingly. Atmosphere was also exellent.

Wont be back. Used to be a great venue but my last two visits (today and last month) were dreadful. No water as requested when seating, no check back on food (steak), chips poorly cooked (double fried and cold on the same plate), no bill when asked and empty glasses on our table for the last half of dining. Sad to see it go but seems Caledonia heritage has killed another venue.

We were here about a week ago and were unfortunately very disappointed. The drinks came quickly and the food was also filled reasonably quickly. The disaster started after we ordered the food. We waited 1 1/2 hours for the food, or even to get the starter. Guests who came much later were already almost finished with their food and we didnt even have our starters. After we asked where the food was after an hour, they apologized and said that there was a lot going on and thats why the kitchen was so busy. Funny. The other guests who came after us were already having dessert. The waiter then came back to apologies and told us, that he wouldnt charge us for the starter for the inconvenience. When we received the food and ate, we asked for the bill, which took another 30 minutes. In addition, we were also charged for the starter, but after I had been sitting here for 2 1/2 hours and just didnt feel like it any more, I didnt complain after I had paid, as this would have taken another 30 minutes, to get things sorted out. The starters (vegetarian haggis) were really good and the main course (vegetarian burger and a burger with meat) were good also but not particularly outstanding. The location itself was also very nice, but unfortunately that doesnt help if the service is lousy. I would also like to say that I myself come from a service industry and yes, these things can happen and I was very relaxed for a long time because I know that these things can happen. But when something like that happens, you have to behave differently and make sure that no more mistakes happen after the guest has already let it be known that something is not going right. All together; if I ever would be in Edinburgh again, i would not visit again and i also cannot recommend. As you can tell by the other Ratings; this happened more than once already.

DO NOT come here if you have an allergy. They don t understand the concept of cross contamination as my mom who is celiac ended up severely ill an hour after eating here. They gave her a separate gluten free menu however the server was not knowledgeable about cross contamination. She tried to go with a meal she knew would reduce the risk of cross contamination however she still ended up sick. If you have any allergies I strongly advise going elsewhere. Dietary restrictions: DO NOT come here if you have an allergy. It is deceiving because they tell you to ask your server about options for allergies and my mom was given a gluten free menu. We came in at around lunch today and our server was on the shorter side. He appeared to not know much about allergies since because my mom asked about cross contamination in the fryers and he didn t understand what that meant. She went with a salad since she didn t want to risk having fries in a contaminated fryer. However that made no difference because an hour later she was severely ill. Will be calling to follow up but if you have any severe allergies to nuts, dairy, gluten (celiac) I strongly advise going elsewhere.

Came here for breakfast and had a really hearty meal with my very first taste of black pudding. Atmosphere of the restaurant was very comfortable. My huge gripe was with one particular service staff (lady with nose piercing and all, I should have noted her name but was so upset to) that made me and my partner felt really uncomfortable and racially discriminated against. Attended to us briefly to check whether we ve completed our meals when clearly we haven t. Rolled eyes at us and was utterly disgruntled when we asked for bill and while processing our payment. I observed another side of her when she was attending to Caucasian customers and she was all smiles and polite but was utterly rude and unprofessional to us the whole time, seeing that we are the only Asians in the restaurant that morning, it was clearly because we are Asians and are immediately seen as synonymous to illiterate pigs. I hope management can work better to retrain service staffs to present the best version of themselves in front of every customer regardless of their skin colour.

Second time having afternoon tea here at westend brasserie. Would thoroughly recommend it again. New menu - bruschetta, bbq beef brisket and egg mayo sandwiches were delicious. Great assortment of sweet treats including passion fruit & coconut macaroons, strawberry tarts and the best lemon drizzle cake I ve had. Already thinking of booking in again with the girls

We visited West End Brasserie on Wednesday morning for a nice breakfast before our tour started. We had a full scottish breakfast with fried egg and a plain croissant with butter. The food was very filling, tasty and of good quality. Our server, Chelsea, looked after us, she made sure we werent running out of water for the table and kept checking on us until we left. We will definitely come back next time we are in town!

We stayed at the Angels Share right around the corner. It was such a sweet morning stroll to go to the brasseries. The food was great and reasonably priced. Liked the Scottish traditional food items a lot.

Visited on Saturday when looking for Usquabae, just find out it was closed. Instead, we enjoyed a nice dinner at the Brasserie. Food and atmosphere was amazing. Following our meal, Julian, the manager, suggested an amazing whisky flight. A definite recommendation at the centre of the city.

Beautiful decor, very tasty food and very nice and professional service. We were a group of seven. We received delicious dishes and drinks quickly and efficiently.

During our trip in Edinburgh we went to West End Brasserie for a proper meal. We went for the steak and fries, and although it was quite simple, the quality was very good! Steak was perfect, fries were good and we had a great salad as well. Thumbs up for the waiters on Friday 13th October . It was a nice visit. Next time well come back for sure!

Beautiful place, excellent atmosphere and outstanding service from Julian

We visited the West End Brasserie for drinks on a Saturday night. Julian our server was very accommodating and friendly. He managed to squeeze a group of 7, without too much hustle. The atmosphere is also lovely with great music!

We went for cocktails and really enjoyed this place. Julian was really great, he is very friendly and welcoming. Service is nice and cocktails are strong. I would recommend coming here. Next time I will try food, it looks great.

Me and my group visited the West End Brasserie for a birthday night out and couldn t fault the quality and amazing service from the staff here, especially Julian for the recommendations of cocktails!

Very nice and cosy place, nice design withing, clean and tidy all round. Good atmosphere and music just hit the right spot. Coctails are great quality. We arrived on a busy Saturday evening and Julian was great and polite, managed to sort us out and is very customer service driven. A++ Wheelchair accessibility: No steps, spacious entry.

The service is impeccable, the staff is attentive and professional, ready to meet customer needs. I thank Julian for his whiskey and cocktail suggestions and recommendations on places to visit in the city. It s definitely a must-visit address in Edinburgh. Whether for a business lunch, a romantic dinner or an evening with friends; this place will charm you every time. I without hesitation give it a well-deserved five stars!

Friday night and we didnt have a booking but was no issue and everyone was so welcoming. Food came fast and tasted incredible. Callum our server was super attentive and Julian helped us choose the right cocktail to finish an amazing evening. If you are in Edinburgh this place is a must!

Enjoyable place to stop by anytime really. The bourguignon is fantastic. Service is top notch, Julien was great (and his banter was fantastic).

It was for breakfast that I made the trip here. Fifteen minutes after I made my order for a Croque Monsieur, it was brought to my table. Since I am very knowledgeable about French cuisine, I informed the team that the Croque Monsieur not authentic and tasty because they did not meet my standards. To my surprise, he came back and removed the item from my bill. I believe you will find the customer service to be excellent, and they are always looking for ways to improve. I appreciate all of your help and I look forward to dining in this restaurant again next time I am in Edinburgh. The orange juice was fresh and tea was fantastic though .

Place looked great, breakfast was really nice and service was class. Julian suggested trying the hot chocolate and it was defos one of the best ones I ve tried so far. Would recommend and will be coming back soon enough! Super friendly staff

The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a nice atmosphere as you walk in. The staff are friendly enough and fairly attentive. Prices are reasonable and what youd expect for the location with a variety of usual meals available e.g macaroni, fish and chips etc. I went for the moules frites and whilst the portion of mussels was large it was just not quite right, but cant put my finger on why. The fries also tasted like old oil, which wasnt pleasant and only got stronger as they got cold. Would be willing to try again as maybe just a blip. Seemed fairly bust and everyone else seemed happy enough.

Had the best hot chocolate Ive ever had here. Baileys bliss. Better than the one my grandmother made, and shes very good at making hot chocolate.

For moderate prices, you have a nice opportunity to go outside...I recommend with lemon curd

We went here for breakfast today and we was one of the first tables to order before it actually got busy. The only thing on my full breakfast plate which was hot was the sausage everything else was luke warm at the best. I asked for fresh toast as this was freezing (and kind of stale) but I had actually finished and was ready to leave before the fresh toast arrived. There excuse was the kitchen was so busy, I dread to think what its like here when its actually busy. There was a lot of staff on as it was and only really started to get busy mid way through us being there. They did remove the service charge, and so they should have. The breakfast items were good quality and would have been a lot nicer if everything was warm, my other half had the eggs benedict and he enjoyed his, coffee and fruit juices were nice.

Decided to finish our overnight stay in Edinburgh by visiting this restaurant for lunch before getting the train home, showed to our table in a quiet corner where only 1 table was occupied and advised lunch wouldnt start till 12.30, we ordered drinks and gradually all the tables filled one by one, everyone else was served drinks and their food orders taken before us, we had to ask where our drinks were and then our orders were taken, i ordered small fish and chips which was delightful, my sister ordered a goats cheese, beetroot and walnut salad, which came as a bowl of what looked like rocket with walnuts and a few dollops of cheese, a few bits of radish and pickled shallots, not even a tomato, she searched the bowl but found no beetroot, we mentioned to the waitress who said she would ask the chef what had happened to the beetroot, no one came back to us but when the bill came the salad had been removed, that salad should have been around 14.00 what she got wasnt worth 4.00 never mind 14.00

Went here for brunch with friends. My eggs royale was so bad I had to send it back; cold, hard eggs, on a lump of old smoked salmon with a small pot of tasteless hollandaise with a skin on it. I ve never sent anything back before but it then came back promptly with runny eggs on it, but still totally cold..! My friend had a simple almond pastry but it was so dry she couldn t eat it. The food truly was awful but the staff were nice and the interior decor, drinks and atmosphere were lovely. Come here for drinks but never food!

We had a dinner here and we enjoyed our time. Service was great and quick. We were next to the window so it was quite nice. Will go back there. Food quality was good, but the price could have been a bit lower. Overall, we had a nice experience.

Terrible management. We were double booked after being told the basement floor was ours. Terrible treatment by the manager who refused to take responsibility, and after a smaller number of us stayed came twice to say he needed the tables back.

If I could, I wouldnt rate this even one star. We got SCAMMED!! My work booked a Xmas night out months prior and they still double booked us, telling us we had the entire basement floor when it was already packed. My advise is that the place needs to re-evaluate their management staff. They were insanely rude, disrespectful and lied straight to our faces. The lovely general manager was a huge (profanity), saying that we are in the wrong when we have the emails to say that our booking is real, and it is clearly on their systems (caught a glimpse of their ipad screens). After the initial engagement, some of the team got seats and then were SCAMMED by the bar staff. They were overcharged with additional drinks that were not ordered and the bar staff refused in some cases to provide itemised receipts. Bar staff dont just do that, I dont blame them, I blame the manager. When they got caught, it was like a little kid getting caught red handed, utterly childish and pathetic from a grown adult. We will be making a formal complaint, but this is to make sure that the public are aware of the real quality of this establishment. Complete joke. Never again.

We had breakfast here. The quality of the produce wasnt great to be honest. Although the service was very good and the interior of the building was beautiful the food didnt match up. I went for a scottish breakfast. I felt the sausage and haggis was a bit stodgy. The eggs were very good. We were also served what i presume was supposed to be fried bread was it toast? Who knows. We werent given butter to accompany it. The server got us butter but it was absolutely rock hard. I had a mocha and an orange juice. Both were lovely. The Orange juice specifically was a real treat. Parking: Parking as you can imagine isnt great in the city centre. There is paid parking but its a good distance away. But thats expected.

Service was friendly and attentive. The food was not great, the Belgian Waffles were tough and hard to both cut and chew. Will try again, but maybe not for breakfast.

Food was good, especially the French onion soup! However we felt it was very overpriced for what it was.
