Decently prized. 20$/3 meats. Took shabu beef, garlic pork, chicken thigh. Green tea ice cream +2$. Miso soup had 2 pieces of tofu. Went a Monday noon, wasn't crowded at all.
2nd time at this location. 1st ever experience was in Vancouver. Always exceeds expectations! I’d consider myself a lifer at this point. Sure it’s a chain but its quality and service is top notch. I wish I remember our servers name. She was kind, helpful, checked in on our food and when we were turning up the burner. Food was fresh, flavourful and all around excellent. The restaurant is clean, open but also private with how the booths are situated. Love eating here and chatting. What you see is part of the chefs choice meal for two. Enough for two and leftovers the next day. So full but happy full. Can’t wait to dine here again. Fun little date night spot, catch up with old friends or even $7.99 chicken /beef bowl lunch. Plus note: Happy hour specials 1hr before closing Sunday thru Friday.
Such a fun dinner! Our server Michelle was great - helped us decide on what to order (we ended up w all you can eat which was a great choice) There was so much variety, it was a work dinner but doubled as a team building event as we cooked our dinner together
Our first time Here. Michelle the waitress was absolutely amazing. She explained the menu , explained how the experience worked , and was constantly attentive to our needs. Top notch service thank you! Now let’s talk about the food. AMAZING. The delivery of the food, the presentation of the food , the quality of the food Top Notch ! What a terrific Restaurant ! Highly recommend for a fun night out !
Have only been here maybe twice before and this time was as good as always. The server was great (can’t remember her name) but she was extremely friendly and prompt with anything we needed. The food was delicious and there was so much of it we were both stuffed by the end of the meal. We got the meat lovers course for 2 and some cheese corn on the side. We did all of the upgrades on the course. Our favourite meat was the Harami Skirt Steak so we ended up ordering another side of it. The salad was delicious as was the Gyu-sushi. There was nothing I disliked. Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. I will definitely be back.
Couldn’t wait to get home to write a review. Service overall was amazing. Super welcoming & patient. The food was absolutely delicious. The meats were exactly what we ordered & turned out great. Presentation was also very fancy. The concept of the restaurant was great & the atmosphere matched that. Will definitely be back soon.
Food is yummy, rich, and flavourful! Prices range from $13 ish for one bulgogi bowl (heavy on the rice with little meat) to $30 or much more per person if you plan to share the meat platters. The meat platters are good quality, but the other dishes are not super remarkable. Service is very friendly and there is a cozy, warm atmosphere :-)
the food was alright but we felt that the price we paid for the combo for 4 should’ve had more meat. nevertheless, the meat was really good but personally the noodles and the salad was a bit lacklustre for us. i thought the sushi was also okay but our favourite was the melon soda drink.
The meats were really good and there are several options to choose from. However, they have few side dishes. The kimchi wasnt great though. The beef fried rice was good and could have been better if it wasnt too oily. When we ordered the second batch of meats, it took a while for them to be served. We love our attendant (forgot her name but she was asian with blonde hair). She was quick and nice .
Everything was perfect and affordable however, it wouldve been 5 stars if the rice was more sticky
Their spicy pork and lava cake is to die for!!!!!!! Lovely and kind staff and a chic and friendly environment. My friends and I love to stop by all the time. best JBBQ spot in edmonton for reals. Service
Jenny made the atmosphere amazing, 10/10 service! She s an amazing server, made our night!
Jenny was sooo nice and helpful! Helped us with our order, as well amazing food as always!
The food was great but service was slow. Was an enjoyable experience despite the price.
Food is always great. There were 5 of us and we had the dinner for 6 setting. It was perfect for us five. The portions were pretty good. Service was great. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. We love coming here! We also appreciate how the place isnt smokey. Their built in exhaust system on the grill is great. Parking is tricky but cheap so not too bad.
Best Japanese bbq I ve been in Edmonton. Energy staff & delicious aged beef.
The food and atmosphere were amazing here! However, service was slightly lacking and our server kept forgetting items we ordered for the all you can eat. Would highly recommend going for a la carte instead since you hopefully won t be missing what you wanted
Loved the food, service was amazing!
It offers a vibrant atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food that makes for a memorable dining experience. Whether you re a Korean BBQ veteran or trying it for the first time, you won t be disappointed. I can t wait to return for another round. Especially thanks Jenny and team for great service.
Great meat
Always my go-to-bbq restaurant, love their side dishes and their marinated meat. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is always warm and friendly. The only downside is parking, parking in downtown is always a pain to find.
Wheelchair accessibility: There is a wheel chair lift! Food
Best service, delicious food, will come back again
Decent restaurant in downtown Edmonton
Gyu-Kaku is always a good idea! It was our first time trying out their AYCE instead of the set menu and it was surprisingly good. Was able to try all of their meat options and honestly loved it! Can t wait to go back :)
I ve been a regular at this restaurant, often booking reservations around 9 PM without issue. However, during my most recent visit, I was informed that the all-you-can-eat option that we came for ended at 8:30, despite having previously enjoyed it at that time. When I inquired further, the staff was dismissive and offered no clear explanation. Additionally, we were told it was last call shortly after arriving, even though the website states the last seating is at 10:30. We booked through OpenTable, but I never received the usual review prompt the next day. This led me to believe the hostess marked our reservation as a no-show in the system, preventing me from leaving feedback. I use OpenTable regularly for work, so I m familiar with how it operates. The portions were small, and the service was inattentive, which left us feeling unwelcome and rushed. After consistently bringing friends and clients here, I can no longer recommend this place. There are many better options in the city.
The food came out slow and half the time the dishes we ordered, they forgot. There was o two other tables in at 5 pm so they weren t slammed. The spicy addictive cucumber was so so and no longer included in the all you can eat for $46/person. We tried this the first time in Hawaii & it was exceptional. We took our kids this time and were disappointed.
Food and service was great. Authentic Japanese
One of the few places downtown I ve found that offers truly affordable food. Granted it is a lunchtime special I am referring to and likely a loss leader. At time of posting you can get a 8$ veg, chicken, or beef rice bowl, with an additional 2$ for unlimited pop refills. The amount and quality of food in the rice bowl is generous and delicious. Service checked all the boxes. Atmosphere is mostly lovely, only oddity is they play a country station. Country music feels somewhat out of place for the environment. The lighting and decor would suggest more of a rock ambience, and the cuisine leans me to think of the anime openings and Jpop of other Japanese places. The music is a very minor nitpick tho and shouldn t be taken too seriously. My only other nitpick is the presence of the grills in the tables leads invariably to a shortage of leg room, a necessary evil.
I used to order frequently from the Montreal location. Everything was so delicious. Loved the wings and the garlic rice and noodles. Then I moved to Edmonton and I ve ordered a few times from here just hoping that maybe each time it will be better. But no luck. Nothing tastes the same here. The garlic chicken noodles weren t anything special. The picture shows actual pieces of chicken on it. What I received was what I assume was ground chicken on the noodles - an odd choice for most dishes. I felt like I was eating redneck chicken noodles. I used to love the black pepper wings. Here they are kinda bland with some sauce on it. Nothing to write home about. Overall, there s nothing notable about the dishes. Strange that food from other locations can taste so differently.
Nice and warm welcoming, food was great and the staff was very friendly!
Food: lots of options to choose from on the menu. Good choice of drinks as well. Quality of meat could be better considering the price. I suspect they serve mostly marinated or previously frozen meats. Service: service is generally great. Can be slower when the place is busy. Overall: can be a good place to go with friends for celebrations or just to satisfy craving for some Japanese style BBQ.
This was my first visit here. I got the party platter for 4, definitely the best way to try a good selection of the menu.
They changed the all you can eat menu to a new different one which is horrible. They barely put any good items on this new menu. The service was so bad too the burner was broken and was only giving lots of eat in the middle. They were bringing out the meat so slowly too. I won t be returning. I would have rather paid the $52-72 old all you can eat than this new $42 one
This is the second time we came during their hours advertised on Google and they were closed. If you are closing early or for special holidays, please indicate that on social media or update your Google hours. We even called 3 times to confirm they were open but nobody picked up. Today the open sign was on, but when we walked in the servers were closing up and told us they were closed almost an hour before their advertised close time.
Thank you Island you make our lunch the best:) exceptional service and food were great.
First time eating here expecting a good meal. Our server Andrew had excellent service, I unfortunately found the food and overall atmosphere lacking. We ordered a garlic noodle bowl and some appetizers. The garlic noodles were overcooked and lacked flavor, and the appetizers were extremely poorly made. Additionally, the cleanliness of the restaurant was disappointing; our booth was in disrepair, which detracted from our experience. It seems that attention to maintenance and cleanliness may be an issue here. I believe there are better options for Asian cuisine in the area, and I would recommend considering Dorinku if you truly want a good meal and clean environment. Will not be returning here.
tons of mistakes in the all you can eat service including only bringing half of our tables order, hour long wait times and charging us for another tables order. They wouldnt check in on our table and almost got every order wrong. Wasted 3 hours going here. food was pretty okay though but could get much more value going to other places
I had high hopes for this restaurant as my friends recommended it. But when we got there, there was so many mistakes. We ordered a lot of food but only a few came. After an hour of waiting we had to get another waiter to get all our orders in. Sometimes, we were missing the food we ordered too. I feel like we just wasted our time here and I feel disappointed as I expected it to be such a good restaurant.
Not good
The cuts of meat were top notch, service was and the experience was something we won t forget! Had an amazing time!
Sorry to say that the old Gyukaku is gone. This place is terrible now. Awful food, the meat is either not fresh or over seasoned. Service is just bad. On top of all that, washroom is as dirty as it can be. The place got no standards.
good
Great place, staff was so accommodating and polite!
Good meat, nice staff, and they have cute robot that will sing you happy birthday.
The food was excellent, and the staff was really friendly and provided great service. Ill definitely come back!!
We came in today with a group of 10 people after a tournament. We were super hungry and got all you can eat for all of us. Ava, our server was super nice, easy going, took our massive order right away and didn t mess anything up! Manager Aaron, was helpful with sitting us and getting our first few drinks together!
The food was incredible tender, flavorful meats grilled to perfection with delicious sauces and sides. The restaurant was spotless, and the staff was super friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. A must-visit for great food and excellent service!
The meats are high quality and delicious. The Staff here are friendly and attentive. Will definitely be coming back!
Let s start with the grill. The grilled itself was dented and cannot put food on properly. The grill is to the point it has be oxidized and so dirty it should not be used and it s probably harmful to consume on. The meat, the meat looked and tasted expired. It is NOT fresh. Added $3 for filet mignon and it is not worth it.
I have been here about 3 times now. Love this place & so happy they have an all you can eat menu now. Always a good time. Don t let the small meat portions fool you, you re going to get very full fast!
I recently dined at Gyu Kaku, and while the experience was enjoyable, it left me with mixed feelings. The staff were really friendly, and the service was prompt and attentive, which definitely made the evening pleasant. We ordered the ramen and a selection of meats to cook on the grill. Unfortunately, the food was just alright nothing special stood out about it. The flavors were decent, but there was nothing that really wowed us. Given the price, I expected a bit more in terms of taste and quality. Overall, Gyu Kaku is a fun place to try out once, especially if you enjoy the interactive aspect of cooking your own food at the table. However, for the price, the food itself didn t quite live up to expectations.
Hope they transition to QR ordering. Overall it was pleasant dine experience.
Pretty expensive place but the food is very good! Only reason I gave 4/5 stars for food because it is expensive but it is a small portion of food. My recommendation is that you come in for lunch instead of dinner because of cheaper prices for basically same amount of food (see picture for lunch prices) Service was 4/5 because I needed to keep asking for my server because they barely checked on us but they are still nice and respectful. Atmosphere was a calm modern Japanese themed restaurant. It can get quite loud in the restaurant but it is more professional looking than most Japanese cuisine restaurants.
The food is great but the service is in doubt. Every time I come, I always find the staff arent friendly, judgemental. They dont have smiles in their faces and if you dont order drinks, you can tell they arent so happy. They keep asking me if I only want 1 drink, not more. If it isnt because the cool bbq concept, I wont ever recommend this place to anyone.
The food was amazing and it never stopped coming! There were 4 of us and we got the Yakiniku party. It was very filling and enjoyable. My favorite was the garlic chicken noodles. This is a great place for groups and birthdays.
First time trying Japanese bbq and it s fantastic, we got the Chefs and there was so much food, and the deep fried wontons were so good. Everything was spot on, I highly recommend this spot.
Love Gyu-Kaku, went on a date with partner after many good experiences here and wanted to try their all-you-can-eat option. We usually get a 2-person combo, and would recommend just doing that. There is a dining time limit after submitting your first round, but service was really slow that day and we found ourselves losing our appetite because of the timing in between dishes. Our server, although super friendly, did not bring us rice even after some reminders, so we were kind of just picking at the little protein we would have. We went with the first all-you-can-eat level since we were trying it for the first time. Felt the quality of meat wasn t as good, and wished we had stuck to the regular 2-person combo. We felt the all you can eat would ve been worth the price had we ordered more but, almost left in the middle of the meal because we were really just underwhelmed with this whole experience.
Haven t been here for like 3 months, extremely disappointed. The quality of food gone down drastically, the meat is no longer the shabu shabu type and now just a regular thinly cut meat that is chewy (if you haven t been here before you will get what I mean) Staff are overworked and understaffed Might give it another try a month or two later but if no improvements Never again
Food was great, but I have to say the place has become exceptionally dirty and the service inattentive. I can forgive an instance of bad service, the bathrooms were disgusting. It was only lunch time and the urinal was caked with dirt and looked like it hadnt been cleaned in a week, The toilet was no better. The floors were stained and sticky and the trash can was overflowing. The dining room has a ton of dirt and oil residue sticking to all of the lamps which are covered in dust bunnies. Im shocked that no one would think to wipe these down as they hang over the tables and food. I used to highly recommend this place, but I have to say I no longer have confidence in doing so.
I very much enjoyed my lunch. The meat was fresh and the whole do-your-self theme just added to the experience. Many meat/marinade options to choose from. Service was excellent. Highly recommended.
Gyu-Kaku offers an incredible dining experience with its Japanese BBQ concept. The atmosphere is lively and inviting, perfect for gatherings with friends or family. The highlight is cooking your own meats right at the table a fun and interactive way to enjoy a meal. The quality of the meats, from umakara ribeye to flavorful pork belly, is top-notch. They have a variety of marinades, and dipping sauces helps enhance the flavors. The sides and appetizers, like the garlic fried rice and crispy gyoza, complement the meal perfectly. Service is attentive, and the staff is knowledgeable about the menu. Its the type of service where you can make friends with the servers and theyll recognize you if you go there often . Overall, its a must-visit spot for BBQ lovers looking for a unique, delicious, and memorable dining experience! I do recommend my friends to try there.
Other than some issues with restaurant being closed without notice and such I generally love this place. Food is always good and service is normally fast and workers are friendly. Best asian bbq place in edmonton with a good price point. Can be a bit busy and loud but that should be expected.
Ordered dinner for four; it was delicious. Lots of food. Really nice treat. Waitress was great.
Great food and good service. Will be back again
The bigger server woman was fantastic. (Sorry I don t know her name). If you re looking for gyu, this is the right place. If you re looking for kaku, this is also the right place. It s delicious. I don t even know what gyu and kaku are but I m a fan. Man I can t wait to kaku more gyu af this place.
MIDDD and expensive !!! there s better asian restaurants out there, AND CHEAPER!! i went w my bf about a week ago, he ordered all you can eat premium (2 hours max) for both of us. he ordered avocado salad, they forgot to put the avocado in it, literally the only reason why we wanted that. so the salad looked pretty basic/mid tbh. at the end, the only thing i wanted to try, she forgot about it and asked if we wanted the desert already like howww (???) which btw we ordered mochi, and she brought like two balls of regular ice cream lol. we didnt even have an hour there or ate like a lot worth 100$ something (that he paid for) keep in mind i was starving when we arrived, and i didn t feel like the food was that good, it was like okay. i expected a lot better. we could ve stayed longer but she asked if we wanted the bill already, it felt like she wanted us to be out as fast as possible (it wasn t even closing time yet) but that make me so disappointed cause it s so expensive not to stay there your moneys worth??? he didn t complain about anything of this cause that s just how he is. bad experience overall. i wont be going back there, you can eat something so much better and for cheaper somewhere else.
Food was fresh and abundant. The atmosphere was traditional Japanese. The experience was perfect.
Very slow and disappointing service
I took my daughter here for her birthday and she LOVED it like she said it was a 10/10 and the best bbq place she ever been to. the server named Michael served us and was very very nice and even got her a surprise for her birthday. Best service and bbq restaurant ever.
Food and Service was Amazing, Waitress was really nice .(Thank you Binna) This is a must go!!! Make sure to arrive hungry
Our server Jennie I think was her name, was fantastic!! Very knowledgeable and took the time to explain how the process works worked, the restaurant history and made wonderful suggestions. The food was all high quality and plentiful for the price.
2nd time here. Good food, good service, good music. Always leave full and happy!
Never been so disappointed by this place ever. Just went in at this time. And the place is empty. There are only two people seated and the server made us wait at the front for 5mins just to tell us the place was full right now. When it is visibly empty.
Went in at noon and the place was empty! All the tables were empty and only two groups seated and was told it was fully booked. So dissatisfied with the unfair discriminatory service! Do better.
Best BBQ Ive ever had hands down. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was good. Be prepared to open your wallet though. Overall great experience, Id definitely go back.
Upstairs dining was too bright. Service takes forever and there s barely any space in between tables. Only restau that charges for extra kimchi
Terrible dining experience. Tables are really close, no leg room and servers take forever.
First time ever experiencing a Japanese BBQ. It was so amazing. The protein was so tender and marinated to perfection and the kimchi, garlic noodles and miso soup were the best Ive ever had. Our server was attentive and friendly. The matcha icecream for desert was phenomenal. Will definitely be back again.
We went in a group of 7 people, so we did order quite a bit. We had the all you can eat menu, which includes Korean BBQ options. They have a normal menu, which we didnt look at. Comparing this to our regular sushi place, I would say it was decently good. They dont have as many sushi options as our regular location, but that is made up for with the all you can eat BBQ and interesting food options that we havent seen anywhere else. From what we ordered, the fish was fresh and delicious, the BBQ was great, and the service was fast. Dont think youll be waiting for a long time after youve placed your order. That being said, someone at your table may need to have data or find a secure wifi connection. The way you order is from a QR code located at the table. That QR code is linked to your table number, and thats how you order. You use your phone to select the item and amount you want and place the order in the shopping cart. There wont be any price attached for the all you can eat, and you pay for you bill at the front in person. We only ran into one issue when we were there, which is in no way the fault of the establishment, kitchen or serving staff. We were ordering as a large group, with big eaters, so a couple or ordered items did not arrive and at one point we were told we had ordered too much, that they would give us what they could and we could order again if we still wanted more. All in all, a great location with friendly staff. Its a bit crowded and loud, but we were probably contributing to that. Parking: They do not have their own parking lot, the only option available is paid street parking, or trying to find a paid parking lot. We parked on the street right in front, however we were there at 8:30pm and last call was at 10 (they closed at 10:30), so if you come at any of the regular busy meal times, you may find it harder to find near by parking.
I hope you know the importance of promptly responding to customer concerns, particularly those that come in via phone. I called more than 5 times this week, all went to voice mail.
If you ask your guests to finish their meal within 90 minutes, please serve the food according to the quantity they ordered! The food was served very slowly and the quantities were incorrect. One portion of meat had 6 slices and three portions of meat only had 8 slices?
Andrew and Island were amazing in navigating a crazy busy lunch rush on game day! Was super busy but they did what they could to tend to us. Would come back (and it d likely be less busy on a normal day)!
Binna was very accommodating. And provided great service. Food was great!
It was an okay experience. Brought my family here for lunch when they were visiting for Canada day long weekend. It was short staffed when we came. Wasn t crazy busy but there was only 2 servers at that time. Food is okay. Servers were trying their best to accommodate and be efficient. Overall was an okay experience. Not bad at all. Just need to improve their staffing.
The food and the sauces are so good. But the service is slow but they are nice though
Good food. Ordering is a bit annoying for an ayce place. No paper no ipad. Basically just have to remember what you want and order it. Otherwise food was good. Personally prefer baekjeong but still good.
Very cool concept, tasted great, and staff were fantastic
Went here for my birthday and it was amazing, food and drink came out in a timely manner. The staff were friendly and checked in on us every so often to make sure everything was good. The cuts of meat were really nice and none of us left hungry that night.
Great experience. Delicious food and service was great. Loved grilling our own meat at the table. Lots of selection. Highly recommend and will definitely return if back in town next time.
Painfully slow service especially given the 90 minute time limit. 2nd time here and its the same every time, horrible service, unpleasant female server who seemed like she did not want to be there. But had a male server who was very attentive and explained to us the meats and how long to cook them - which the girl server never did. Get kbbq at a proper place, not some mid food, awfully managed hole this place is
This place used to be good, but it has really gone downhill. The service is okay, but the tables and dishes are dirty. The food is bland, and theyre stingy with sauces. The fried chicken wings tasted funky and sour. Portions for the price paid is very stingy. Wouldn t recommend this place for BBQ.
Tastes good. Wont be disappointed. Wait time was long though.
On Tuesday I was greeted by Lily at the front, who was extremely welcoming and immediately provided a very comforting atmosphere, and sat us quickly as a walk in! Our waitress was Binna who provided an amazing experience! She answered all our questions, checked up on us, and was very quick with everything. The food was great, 10/10 will visit again:)
Having been to both Calgary and Edmonton locations, this one is simple better. The food is great, but the atmosphere is superior, and they have a cool robot. Bonus if your waitress is Ava, she is fun, extremely kind, attentive, and will instantly make your night better. The wagyu is worth it
Went for lunch and had a great experience.
I love Gyukaku Calgary so I wanted to try this branch with some friends. Overall the food was okay and my server (i think her name is nay) was generally really nice. However, the girl with a big head and whack eyeliner who wasn t wearing a uniform ruined this for us. She was rude and unhygienic. She rolled her eyes at us when we were trying to get help and when she did help she gave us attitude. I m not someone to judge but as someone who works at customer service she should know how to be nice to her customers and she should know how to at least seem clean. Her breath stink and there was crumbs on her hair which was also not tied up.
Food was ok but the service was top tier, we got sat in a booth and was in a quiet area. My course was for 2 people, everything was out fast, we got water refilled frequently and we were explained how to do the grilling properly which i never got from any other restaurant. The manager was sweet too she came to our table to make sure if we were happy with everything. The price is a little bit pricey though.
The food sucks. Service sucks , everything taste bland , don t waste ur time coming here.
Went for all you can eat for 3 people for my mom birthday, food was delicious and the service was amazing from each of our waitress. Thanks to Binna in particular. Will come back for sure
Food, as always, is great. The price seems high at first, but its all worth it. Yaki shabu is one of the best items, imo. I also want to commend Lin for her outstanding service. Great job!
What a great choice for a Fathers Day lunch. You definitely get your moneys worth with the ALL You Can Eat buffet and the staff are very pleasant. Well be back!
We had an amazing experience! The food was great and the staff are wonderful.
Grace s service was awesome. She made me and my mom feel warm and welcomed. We will only go back if she comes back to work for you guys
Came here yesterday and got the best service ever! Our server, Michelle, was the sweetest and was super attentive and helpful. The lychee gin mojito she made us was delicious. We ordered the meat lovers course for 2 and didn t think it was enough food so ordered a couple items on top of it but ended up with so much food at the end. Everything tasted so yummy. Cant wait to go back for another round of tasty eats and good times!
We had a dinner yesterday with my friends and we definitely enjoyed everything the food, service and the atmosphere were absolutely exceptional. This restaurant is a must go to try dining experience.
The cooks were some of the best Ive ever seen.
Was recommended to me and finally had a chance to try. Well worth it! A great experience.
Went in for lunch a couple of days ago with a friend and can confidently say that this place has one of the BEST lunch menus the city has to offer, the deals are a great value for their price. However, the service is what really stood out. Michael was our server, and despite the place being really busy and almost full, our table was attended to and taken care of really really well with exceptional service! Our drinks were never empty, and i was very appreciative that he even took the time to explain the grill times on the meats since it was our first time there. We were wondering why the place was so packed on a Thursday afternoon, but after experiencing it firsthand, we understand. Food is of quality, and service was even better. Impressed is an understatement. 11/10 would recommend this to everyone i know! Will be back again, hopefully this time to try out their dinner menu :)
My boyfriend and I decided to dine here yesterday as part of our quest to explore new restaurants in Edmonton. And let me tell you, it was an absolute delight! This place has set standards for service, surpassing all our previous dining experiences. Our server, Liyane ( I hope I get the spelling right), was amazing! She attended to our need with every smile and even catered to our specific request. Now, im not usually one for cocktails, but the mango cocktail caught my interest. Liyane kindly offered to it virgin-style, and it was simply fantastic! Additionally, when she suggested we should try the meat lover course, I was a bit skeptical, but turned out to be more than enough for both of us! We re already planning our next visit, and we re crossing fingers that we ll be lucky enough to have the same server again!!
Been here a few times and the food is really good. Service has been hit or miss and there have been many miscommunications when calling and when ordering. Really like Gyu kaku as a whole and I think the Edmonton location just needs to improve to meet the standards of the whole franchise.
Came in for dinner with my friend for a quick catch up and was not disappointed with either the food or service. Our server Leanne was exceptional and never left our cups empty. She explained how long the meat should be cooked for the best experience. We will definitely be back and hope to be served by her again!
Came here tonight and had a lovely experience! The service was top notch, our server did an amazing job tonight she was very accommodating and friendly. The host at the front was wonderful, I don t quite remember her name but she had glasses. She sat us down at a table but we wanted to move to a booth and she was very nice about it and moved us right away. The food was very good, will definitely be coming back again!
Always to my expectations.. delicious and good quality Japanese food.
Service is excellent but the $100 choice of meat is not worthy.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free Options Food
It s my birthday and I went to this establishment for the 3rd time. The service is normally amazing but this time It was so bad I ordered only two diet sodas which they charged me $6.80 for sitting 10 minutes and had to ask to change seating ( I made reservations 2 weeks in advance) they sat my husband and I near the dish pit where they were playing incredibly offensive music. Then a guy who works there was wearing a dish pit rag under his hat which is disgusting and a food safety hazard due to bodily fluids (hair) is associated with a dish cloth which handles your food. So I sat there waiting for my waitress and had to waive her down to ask for the bill as this 10 minute experience for my birthday was horrendous and ruined. I would suggest someone really look into this not only for the fact of the highly offensive music that was not only vulgar to women and profound language but the danger the staff are putting paying customers with the lack of food safety standards and handling. You are putting people in serious danger. I also did some research on Alberta food safety and handling this is what I found Human hair can be both a physical and microbiological contaminant that can get into food. All food handlers working in a food premises must make sure they take reasonable precautions, such as wearing a hair covering, to prevent hair from getting into food. Never go here unless you want contaminated food, horrible service, and vulgar music this is your spot. Enjoy getting food poisoning :)
Had great customer service and had dishes out in a timely manner!
me and my family went here for dinner, we got the yanikiku feast for 4 and everything was so amazing. our server Ava was checking up on us the whole time to make sure our grill are not burnt and food was good. like the vibe and def coming back for the wagyu mother s day coming soon one of the best bbq in Edmonton
Gyu Kaku has been my go to for years. We went after our wedding and have loved it for years. I dont know whats happening but the quality all together has gone way down. The cleanliness was not up to par, the table was sticky and had a bunch of sauce stuck on it and the bathroom mirror was cleaned by someone who doesnt know how to clean a mirror, it was cleaned with the wrong product or something so it just looked disgusting. The food quality was way worse, the garlic noodles were missing so much flavor, the calamari use to be the best in the city and it was mediocre this time. The salad has old lettuce and youre given a single dinner fork to mix and serve it. Overall I was so disappointed because this has been our go to and something we look forward to for days. Everyone in our friend group has been saying the same about the quality tanking when they have gone. Truly disappointing
It s pretty good, it is what you d expect for pricing very similar to any non AYCE Korean bbq prices. It s a neat place but terrible for larger groups, it s usually easy to get seating though as I m pretty sure they re having a hard time finding customers right now
Gluten free and absolutely delicious! The umakara is to die for. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Food : 5/5
The food here is not clean nor fresh. Got a pain in my stomach soon after eating their food, started with the miso soup and already had symptoms. Had the meat dinner meal over $100 and the price is not worth it at all. They say its wagyu but I doubt it, all the beef is hard to chew. I would not go there again.
We ordered the chef s Special for two of us and it was more than enough food. The service was excellent and friendly and the food came out fast. I highly recommend this spot for a date night. They also accommodate large groups well.
Food was great. However service was very poor. Took forever for a drink order upon arriving then waiting at least 20-30 mins just for our appetizer order to be taken. The drink service was not consistent or adequate especially if you re serving food with high sodium or spice content. Understandable if everyone is ordering unique drinks but I only wanted water and cola. Really liked the food but will likely not go back for a birthday occasion as I felt like we were just a number to the restaurant staff.
Lovely service. The servers were very polite and made things super easy. Thanks!
Lin and her team were excellent! Great service and fabulous food! Thanks for a nice night out!
Best restaurant ever. The service is top tier with all the servers being attentive and friendly. My server, Grace, explained the menu extremely well and overall made my experience 100% better. The host was fantastic and the cooking was phenomenal.
Kevin is a great server and having him help us out last night was great ! Thanks for serving us and being so accommodating ! Update March 22 2024 Update today we came for a party of 6. All the meats we get usually are very fatty... service today was not good. Miso wings werent fully coated just a drizzle. Everything was off. Upset....
Best restaurant in edmonton
I don t know what happened to this place but it fell off big time. We were served frozen spring rolls twice. The water cups were dirty. Service was so poor. They forgot two of the group s food and didn t come around for a good 20 mins (it was a Sunday afternoon and wasn t busy). I used to enjoy coming here. Won t recommend
The manager of this place is absolutely amazing, and thats the only reason Im giving 3 stars. We were sat by the entrance to the kitchen, which made conversation very difficult as the door is covered by a curtain. We heard dishes crashing, we heard things being dropped, and it was very loud. The service was not great, and Im not even sure who our server was. There was no introduction to this type of food, and it wasnt until the manager came over that we got any sort of guidance. Random things were dropped off with no indication of what it was or what it was meant to go with, despite us telling our original server that it was our first time there, and that we needed any items containing pork to be brought out seperately (one of us was muslim). when we needed help it was hard to get the attention of any of the girls who were walking to the kitchen, and we would have to stand up or raise our voice. One of the girls brought the wrong drink to my friend, and when she asked her to please bring the one she ordered the server rolled her eyes. The food was lovely, but the experience was more frustrating than anything else.
At first glance, the place was dirty. Our table was greasy, there was a mouse trap at the front door, and to top it off my pop had a used straw wrapper in it. I noticed this after taking a sip. Our server was unpleasant and unfriendly. The food was decent, however, the atmosphere and service made for a horrible experience. We should have left after seeing the wrapper in my drink. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I recently visited Gyu-Kaku for dinner with friends and unfortunately, it was a highly disappointing experience. From the moment we arrived, things seemed off. The hostess were disorganized, leading to a long wait even though we had a reservation. The service was slow and inattentive. Our server seemed overwhelmed and forgot items we ordered on a pre-made menu. When the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. The dishes lacked flavor and were not worth the high prices charged. Overall, I would not recommend Gyu-Kaku to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience. The combination of poor service, mediocre food, and unprofessional management made this a memorable meal for all the wrong reasons.
My recent visit to Gyu-Kaku left much to be desired, primarily due to the abysmal service and a frustratingly long wait to sort out our bill. While the food was decent, the overall experience was marred by incompetence and inefficiency. The first red flag was raised when it took an eternity for the server to figure out which table she can put us as she thought we were 5 people when we were only 4 plus we already made reservations for 4 @5:45pm . After finally we were seated and placed our orders, we requested to split the bill into two separate payments. Plus I told the server that I have a code that I would like to use and she asked to take my phone so she can put the code into their system which it took her over 10mins to do so while she kept my phone the whole time there. This seemingly simple task turned into a nightmare as the staff struggled to comprehend our request. What should have been a straightforward transaction devolved into a lengthy ordeal, with the server repeatedly disappearing and reappearing without any progress. It was evident that the staff lacked proper training in handling such requests, leading to unnecessary delays. Overall, while the food at Gyu-Kaku may be satisfactory, the same cannot be said for the service. The lack of competence and efficiency in handling basic requests, such as splitting the bill, is unacceptable. Until they improve their customer service standards, I cannot recommend Gyu-Kaku to others.
Food was amazing! We got the party for 4, its so much food and everything was delicious!! I wish they would explain to you better whats being dropped off we didn t know which meat was which, service a little slow, drinks were forgotten. Overall food was delicious, a really fun & different experience you will definitely not leave hungry! Also smores for dessert was a really cute & fun touch!
Amazing food. Good service and the food was fantastic
So much fun to cook your own food. Amazing choices for everyone in the family.
Food was awesome. Service was awesome. Prices are awesome. Food : 5/5
Came here on a Wednesday at 915PM after seeing online they close at 1030PM. Walked in and the hostess told us they were already closed. How is it that you re closed more than an hour before the actual close time? Change your hours online. Waste of a drive down.
Found in downtown Edmonton the atmosphere is quite busy. However it is usually not too loud. Now that im past the only negative point, the food is amazing! Yes you cook it yourself on the bbq table but any meat that is marinated offers wonderful flavor. The sides are usually really tasty as well. For 4 people being stuffed we spent about $300 including drinks. Considering most of this was straight meat I really cant complain about the cost. If you are into bbq meat this is a must try. Also their serving robot that sings happy birthday is quite hilarious.
I visited with my family and they had many great options including food for my kids. The portion was definitely more than enough and the smores which you toast the marshmallows by the grill was sooo cool, my kids loved it. They would explain everything such as the meat cooking time which makes the service outstanding here. Everyone is super kind and will check up on you often to make sure everything is good. The server will also come and change the grill for you once in a while to make sure it cooks and tastes better. I would really recommend this place if you like bbq.
Nice food, nice service
Honestly one of the best Japanese food experiences out there in YEG
The hostess was very kind and nice. We came here for a date night with my husband and ordered a meal for 2 and it was tasty and delicious. It was a first time experience and the server did a great job explaining the cuts of meats, the cooking time and her personal favourite items. The quality is very premium and we were both full. Definitely recommend coming here!!
First time going here and what an experience! Food was fantastic, we did the all you can eat and I think we challenged the menu pretty well . Service was fast and efficient
This was a really good eat! We got a shareable meal for 3 and were absolutely stuffed, there was even more food than what my picture shows. It was really neat to have a robot show up with everything, and it was nice to cook it all at our own pace while we socialized. Plan to come here and take your time with the food so you can probably take in everything
It was a nice experience to celebrate my husband s birthday. Service was fantastic but a little feel sorry for the server. Wished she had one more help. It s really hard to go back and forth by yourself especially during rush hour. We came at 2pm and there s a lot of tables occupancy. And she s doing everything by herself. But other than that everything was awesome.!
Unique experience grilling food at your own table. We went with the family meal as the A la carte options are overwhelming! The menu is extensive and would love to try it several more times.
I have only had once bad experience here where a server was constantly forgetting about my table. But besides that, i ve visited many times and it has been a good experience. Food is good and service is usually good!
One of my families favourite places to eat, we are a family of 5, kids are 9,11,12. We usually get the dinner for 2 with an extra rice and an extra salad, it s the perfect amount. Amazing quality food, staff is always great. Parking: Lots of nearby paid parking lots Kid-friendliness: Kids LOVE this place, s mores at the end is great.
Great place to dine in if your into BBQ your own meat and deli.
Thank you for supporting our community event, love your food amd service.
Amazing meal, great atmosphere and wonderful service. 10/10 would recommend and will dine again.
Great food, lunch special is a good deal
Always come for the meal deal, great bang for buck and filling
The food was good, the servers were kind and thoughtful. Good variety would recommend to anyone!
Dietary restrictions: I have a gluten intolerance and Gyu-Kaku accommodated such. Cannot rave enough about this place!! Food
Tasty food, good service.
10/10 recommend this place made me feel like i was in japan again Food
Love the duel menu system bring a non Asian friend for the full experience!
A great, welcoming atmosphere. My second time eating at Gyu-Kaku, first was in LA. Very pleased with our server Michelle who made our family birthday a memorable evening!
Love it here!
Amazing atmosphere, had a fun and filling night with my bestie, the chicken karage with spicy mayo was really good.
That food was very tasty and the environment was also comfortable for small and large groups! I really recommend this BBQ dining place
May was a awesome server the food was amazing everyone very friendly
I got free ice cream for reviewing which my have improved my opinion. It s a nice clean place with great food and nice service
Free ice cream for 5 star review Parking: Very close to restaurant Food : 5/5 |
Michelle was great, she was very welcoming and hospitable, food was also great. 10/10
Server was amazing and the food selection was stellar
The place is very aesthetic and peaceful. The beef they serve is also top-notch. Always a good time whenever I come here.
Best ayce bbq in Edmonton.
Great service from Michelle. Good food.
Fun experience cooking your own meat and veggies. Excellent food. So delicious. Dietary restrictions: Waitress was very attentive to our dietary restrictions. She talked to chef and was informative.
It tastes very good, I will come again next time
The food was so delicious.
Very good taste. I will invite all my friends to eat again. The meat is fresh and drink is good!
Great ambience in the restaurant and service never disappoints. I quite like their combos where you can get decent value for your money!
So the coworkers decided to go out. 4 people, the service sucked. They were busy in the restaurant , my guests arrived 30 mins after I had. They didn t even come to take my drink order until almost 30 mins after the rest of the table came. No one came to take our drink order until I got up and asked. Then the food came out however they wanted. Nothing came together, even for Refil s I had to get up and ask. I still left 35.00 for a 140 dollar bill. The service was so bad I m never going back. Hire more wait staff or train them better.
Great food and experience with Falco!
Delicious food. Gyu-Kaku locations all consistently have amazing food. Cheese fondue is my personal fave.
The service was super fast and very kind to us! The food is very delicious and atmosphere is super relaxed. Ava was the best server ever!
The meat dishes were good. Servers were friendly. Don t bother with the 5 star review for appetizers they are not good and overpriced. Don t get the avocado salad.
Great value for the Lunch All you can eat. Nice and quiet environment. Food
I recently visited Gyukaku Japanese BBQ in Edmonton and had a fantastic experience. The staff was welcoming and the food was delicious. We also appreciate their support for recent Chinese movies which adding a culture touch to the dining experience. Highly recommend for a great meal and a supportive atmosphere!
Well interesting atmosphere to hang out and cook your own food. We started with being sat at table. The menus we were given were filthy. The bathrooms would be 2.5/5 for cleanliness. Sinks & the counter were not that clean. Mirrors were gross. The table was barely clean and the area around the outside of grill was dirty with leftover food particles from previous meal. The floor around the tables that we could see were in need of cleaning, looked like there was a quick floor clean that was barely cleaned. The floor in front of bar was disgusting. The chicken we ordered had chunks of bone. And chunks of fat. For the price being charged there should be no bones to bite into or excess fat chunks. The shrimp was not prepared & cleaned. Again, for the price being charged it should have been prepared properly. Some of the beef was not trimmed sufficiently with too much fat. The server was polite but he did not deal with the grill setting correctly to cook the food. Hostess was able to assist us and we had to adjust it also. The flavors of red meat sauces were yummy. Not so for the chicken, shrimp or scallops. Would we go back as a couple, no thanks.
We got a really good valentine combo
The servers were nice and the meat choices are good.
So yummy !!
Terrible service, cutlery wasn t clean, staff was unprofessional, and unorganized.
My girlfriend and I booked a reservation 2 weeks prior to our visit on Valentine s Day and were very excited for our first experience here as we ve both heard great things. Upon arrival we were shocked with a terrible greeting within the first 10 seconds of opening the front doors. The older white man working at the host position (but was presumably the manager) was looking down at an iPad when we entered, and by the time he looked up at us, another couple had entered the restaurant **AFTER** my girlfriend and I had entered and were **CLEARLY** standing behind us. This man then says in a malicious tone the other couple was here first, please move aside. To add further context, it was only the 2 couples in the waiting area. Shocked, my girlfriend and I were taking to the table with a terrible taste in our mouths already. **THEN** once seated at our table, the 2 sets of tongs placed on our plates had old sauces and traces of raw meat in between the groves of the tongs both of the tongs. I then asked the server to swap these tongs out since they were clearly dirty. Once receiving the new set of tongs, surprisingly, one of these were equally dirty very disappointed with this restaurant within the first 5 minutes of walking through the doors. I will say that the food was great and our server was very accommodating otherwise. Overall, I would not recommend on behalf of our greeting into the restaurant, and the hygiene issues with the cutlery.
Food was good! We got the group meal for three and left so so full- so much good food! With this and 3 beer, it was over $150. A downfall was the women s bathroom floor was VERY dirty and soap was empty. The hourly cleaning checklist on the back of the bathroom door was from June (unsure what year) and we visited in February. Picture attached is from the women s bathroom. My wine also came in a dirty glass and had to be sent back to get cleaned.
Two stars just because the food is decent. I ve went a total of three times and two of those experiences have been pretty horrible. The first time we were rushed out of the restaurant after eating for less than an hour despite it being pretty much empty. I would understand if we were loitering but we were actively in the middle of our meals. The most recent time was the worst. We made a reservation for 7:30 and didn t get to sit until 7:50. I completely understand it was busy, but the service was inexcusable. No one greeted us or the couple that had arrived even earlier despite there being workers at the front desk. However, the group of walk-ins were seated before either of us who had reservations. When we did finally get to sit we were led to a dingy corner near the supply closet. The table and utensils were sticky and hadn t been cleaned properly. I was worried we wouldn t be noticed and that was pretty much confirmed by our experience. Our server was friendly though and it wasn t any fault of hers. It took 30 minutes for beer to come out which is pretty unreasonable. I also don t understand the purpose of the robot waiter as it had to be personally led to our table by our server. Seems like a waste of money and a blatant attempt to steal jobs. The meat was fresh but too expensive for the portion size- it also seemed to take too long to prepare. The attitude of the restaurant just seems to be I don t care about your experience and whether or not you come again, we ll still make money anyways ; which is fair enough if that s what they want to do. But as a customer if you value your money and your time I wouldn t choose to come here.
Good food very yummy. Good value
Great food at an affordable price along as you bring friends along
Wonderful Atmosphere and all the servers are so friendly, was our first time coming and definitely a future place we will come back to. The portions are generous and it s a fun experience cooking it to your preference in front of you.
Love the food here. Michelle is awesome! Food
Beautiful service with accurate orders. Kind and so patient when taking our families order. Would recommend to friends and family.
