Cool, minimalist-chic outfit crafting Japanese ramen with soup stock made daily in limited batches.
The soup base and the noodles were delicious, yet the chashu were just awful. They were cold and way too tough, the fat was not rendered at all. They should have been cooked wayyyy longer and then charred a little. It’s such a shame because this could have been a perfect bowl of ramen.
Always wanted to try this place and thank god I just arrived in perfect timing and only had to wait 10-15 mins. The line up got much longer right after I arrived. I ordered the spicy Gomma ramen with pork charshu. And my friend ordered the black ramen. They were both very delicious and one of the best ramen place in edmonton. Definitely highly recommended. They only serve limited bowl of soup. There were many times they sold out.
I am very critical when it comes to ramen and this place was exactly what I needed. You have to come early as many people wait in line to come here and they have limited seating and ramen availability as everything is fresh. We have come a few times and will be back again. Highly recommend this to ramen lovers, like I said come early or you will miss your chance.
The food is amazing. What a good place to get hot temperature delicious broth!!!! So good! The turnover of happy satisfied customers gives the best vibes, energy and atmosphere. Highly recommend this wonderful ramen place! Go try it, you won’t regret it (:
One of my go-to places for lunch. By far the best ramen place in Edmonton out of the ones I’ve tried so far. There’s a richness and flavour to the broth that’s been unparalleled. I recommend the goma goma or the feature ramen is always fun to check out. Come before opening (especially on weekends) if you want to skip the wait — it’s worth it!
Best ramen in town. Fresh noodles, rich broth, and generous portions. Got the black garlic, spicy goma and spicy miso. Service was perfect, fair prices and food came out immediately.
This is Edmonton’s best Japanese Ramen location. There is almost always a line. No takeout or delivery, I’m guessing it would compromise quality. They did have take home ramen kits during COVID. Just go for impeccable food for lunch quickly, enjoy, and go. The restaurant works like a well oiled machine. The food arrives quickly, you enjoy, get what you need and go. It is Cash or Debit only. Only Open 11-3 or closes earlier if they are out of soup. Serving sizes are very good. For kids, when we go with my nieces or nephews. I recommend getting an extra bowl of noodles and splitting a full size bowl. The size is about the size or most large bowls of Pho, if you are familiar with those asian Soup restaurants. Just the right size, not too much. The gyoza are a good fun finger food for kids too, always a hit. Now the most important part. This is the best Japanese Ramen, heck asian soup restaurant in town(saying a lot because Edmonton has some of Canada’s best Pho). The line is always long if it’s Fri-Sun. Expect to wait 20-40minutes unless you are there first thing or part of the last groups through at 2:30. Even weekdays, this is where you go to impress someone with amazing food. Broth -> Clear, Full bodied, and well balanced. Noodles -> Fresh, glutinous, and tasty. Chashu -> Fresh, best quality I’ve ever seen, never frozen like other ramen shops do, and delicious(if you like choose a spicier ramen, there are layers to the flavour and care if that only spice brings out). Garnishes -> Simple and perfectly matched to the dish. The best Ramen is the one that gets slept on by many people IMO, the Yuzo Shio. It is a unique citrus broth that tastes like a sunshine in your mouth. The next best Ramen is typically the feature. They always have inventive and creative ramens they try for the month and then they are gone. Best I’ve had is the Shabu Shabu Beef, hopefully it will return one day. The most popular regular ones are the Black Garlic and the Spicy Goma, I prefer the 3 pepper if I want spicy, but I am also a pepperhead, it may be too spicy for some, but there is always chilli oil or you can request Shichimi(Japanese Red Pepper) to enhance the spice/flavour if you want more. Honestly there isn’t a bad option on the menu, if you like the sound of it, order it. I once went with 5 friends, we had a debate on the best flavour, put my foot down on the Yuzo Shio, even though one of them was arguing for the black garlic as the best. Had them try my broth, one guy came back every day that week for it, and the other 4 came back in that same week for it. It was a clear winner. I went to New York this year, tried Michelin star ramen shops, NONE OF THEM WERE AS GOOD AS TOKIWA. It’s amazing we have this place in Edmonton. With the short hours, there is no compromise on quality or craft. Just put in your name, eat your delicious ramen and go. If you wait too long or are not patient. You will see the saddest sign when you come “NO SOUP” (for you) lit up above the door, come back tomorrow.
Overall average experience at Tokiwa. The wooden spoons they gave out were old and made me lose my appetite a little. The soup it self is a little salty if you're a broth drinker like me. I did enjoy the vegetables that came with the ramen though! Keep in mind if you want to bring your soup home they charge you $1 for a to-go container. I think this place is overrated and not worth the 25-30 minute wait.
I am so disappointed. I had Black Garlic Ramen but I dont taste the garlic, It taste the same -: as the Tonkutso. The meat is not even grilled and the egg like normal boiled egg. The service is great.
Its amazingThe food is awesome and the service is pretty good. Atmosphere is pretty dope myself, but it gets super. Odd in there, if its full and sometimes it takes a while to get your meals but other than that. Well, recommended, if you want a real 12 authentic ramen. Overall ninety percent
I can see why tokiwa gets all the hype that it (accordingly) deserves! The broth is savoury without being too fatty which cannot be said for other ramen joints. It s always busy but food doesn t take long to arrive and it punches above its weight class for sure
They only accept cash or debit. They charge $1 for plastic takeout containers. Tried 4 different ramen. None of them were spectacular. Should greet customers with a smile Food : 2/5
Ive been here twice and the food was great. Service was great as the other reviews say until it wasnt. This chubby round shaped faced waitress who serves us every time we go there shows an attitude. I thought I was mistaken because she is working as a server at a restaurant, but I could feel that someones eyes are on me while Im eating and when I see that direction shes looking at me leaning on the wall against the kitchen chatting with her coworkers, wont even smile back or say something when I smile at her, but keep staring at me with the poker face and this happens every 2 mins the whole time Im eating, at every visit. I mean if thats some kind of habit she keeps subconsciously I understand but she would definitely know if it is or not. Smile girl!
Definitely one of my favourite ramen spots! It gets busy but thankfully the staff are very fast with their service.
We had a delicious lunch at this restaurant and were so impressed with how fast and delicious the bowls of ramen came out.. Really tasty!
My favourite place to get ramen. Get there early, once they re out of soup, they close.
Never left a review before for a restaurant, -cold , bland ramen with an off taste. Chili oil was present but had zero affect on taste. Had heard rave reviews when it opened and tried for the first time today, disappointed doesn t even come close to how I felt. I could barely eat a third and had to leave the rest
The Thai green curry is a little bit salty but its is taste good
Went there for the second time and still was not impressed. Soup was salty. Cannot do take out. Service was bad. I wouldnt recommend this place.
I recently visited Tokiwa Ramen at 11:00 am, hoping for a great experience given the restaurant s popularity. Unfortunately, the staff left a lot to be desired in terms of customer service. They were quite rigid about the opening time and insisted that I could not enter even one minute before the official opening, which felt a bit unwelcoming. While I understand the high demand, the way they handled it made me feel like just another number, rather than a valued customer. As for the food, it was okay but didn t quite live up to the hype. It was decent, but nothing particularly stood out that would make me want to rush back. Overall, the experience was somewhat underwhelming, especially considering the reputation. A little more warmth and attention to customer care could go a long way.
Too salty. Its weird how they had much emphasis on the soup but majority of it goes to waste. Really attempting to dump all my water into the bowl
Service was seriously so bad they told me 15 min wait ended up being an hour and they just kept seating people infront of me
Amazing ramen great taste & menu options. Always busy so go early. Only thing I don t like it the feeling of being rushed out at the end. But I also understand it s quite a small location too & it s just THAT good ;)
I would give this place more stars if I could Ramen was the best Ramen I ve ever had in my life! so delicious and Service was top-notch
Great food! Great service! Glad I came to this place!
could not order a chicken rice bowl large to take out. do not even allow that and yet businesses nearby can do that. will never recommend. on health canada facilities inspection, they had several violations. Note , they want you in so they get mandatory 18% tips. yep never will go as i havw seen pics of greasy food. line up to get in for whatever they feel like making that us good
Food is good and we come here a lot, I have introduced this place to a lot of my friends. When it comes to customer service, they surely have a lot to improve. They were quite mean and seemed irritated especially that they have a line up. From the manager to the servers, they seem to care very little about customer service.
The best Ramen in Edmonton - hands down, by far, no comparison. Reasonable price, great service and top quality.
Good food. Had the Tokyo tonkotsu. Maybe the place is a bit overhyped
Amazing ramen. Broth is superb but the noodles leave something to be desired. Try the vinegar with ginseng. Its a nice sweet and sour. It works well to help cut the creaminess of the broth. Edit 6 years later (1* removed): Still one of my go to spots for ramen in Edmonton with a bustling crowd and lively atmosphere. Overall: Superb value! The Good: Broth is always fresh, rich, and flavourful. The Bad: The noodles are still lacking in terms of texture and how well they hold up against the broth. I still would recommend using the Ginseng Vinegar to help with the lacking acid in the noodles.
You look for good ramen? It should do the job!
We went prior to the pandemic and it was good, broth was delicious and service amazing. Went back and salty, bland broth. My son ordered a side dish, he s only a toddler so he can t eat the whole thing. We asked to take it home they said no. But they give you containers for the broth to take home. We don t understand why, we paid for the food so we would be able to take it home. Server said no we could not do that. Husband asked to speak to a manager, she said she would be be back. (We had already paid) and we re waiting around. Put the food in one of the soup containers and left. Seriously what a strange rule. If we leave it would they just throw it away or what? Waste of food.
Ordered spicy miso as suggested by server broth had no flavour just tasted like spice I wish I got the plain flavour. Very over priced and you have to pay extra for chicken so you end up spending close to or over $20 for a bowl with barely any chicken and you leave feeling hungry still I went after to eat somewhere else that is more filling.
One of the most stellar ramen joints in town! The broth is flavorful and rich in umami, with generous and fresh ingredients. It really hits the spot, especially during winter.
Best ramen in the city! Absolutely recommend. Its a popular place for a reason. Staff are friendly, food is amazing and high quality.
The staff is friendly and the food is okay, but I don t want to eat with such old spoons.
I always come here as Ive always loved their Ramen. Today I got here 2 mins before my girlfriend was about to arrive. Was told I needed to wait outside till she comes, even though there was no one else there. Order our food, we werent even there for 35mins before the server was practically kicking us out. Ive never been made to feel like I was unwelcome in a restaurant before. If Im going out to eat and I want to spend some time catching up with my friend, I should be able too. I left a $40 on a $36.75 lunch, but I regret even leaving any tip as it wasnt deserved. Wont be coming back
Delicious ramen, my favorite is the Spicy Goma it has so much flavor!! Loved it
The soup base is so watery oost covid
Best ramen in Edmonton.
Ive been here many times. The broth is good and has an authentic Japanese flavor. However, its strange that every time I use the wooden spoon, it tastes like dish soap. Would it be better to switch to ceramic spoons?
Good place for ramen. Cant complain, good food and quickly served. Not worth lining up for however.
Very tasty Ramen, but a lot of people know this so it can be a very busy spot. In spite of this they get the food out to you quickly to enjoy.
I don t understand why we cannot take home the food that we paid for. My 12 year old son ordered extra noodles for his ramen. When he couldn t finish it anymore he wanted to take home the leftover but it s not allowed. Why? The extra noodles were paid for and not free. Do you honestly think that it s better to throw away the leftover food than have your customer eat it in their house?
We waited about 15 mins for a group of 4 on Saturday at noon. The food was super awesome, and the prices were reasonable. Although we know that they need to turn the tables quickly, we did not feel super rushed. Kid-friendliness: We took our 5 month old baby in her car seat and we were able to place her on the bench seat beside us.
Absolutely obsessed. Can never go wrong with the goma goma or black garlic.
Tokiwa is the highlight of all the places to eat in Oliver. The quality of food is best in class. Worth the wait. Remember that you need to register with the hostess to be seated. I appreciate the changes to seating and reconfiguration of tables between 2-4 people seating as necessary. Having come before with a party of 3 people and having to wait for far too long for one of very few larger tables to open, the new way has been very effective in reducing the wait in my experience.
Good ramen place
Unreal flavourful, amazing staff.
Best ramen I ve found in the city of Edmonton! Quick service and great food is a constant with this place! Make sure you get here at 10:30 to avoid a lineup!
Delicious ramen
I was having a bad day. Me and my bf went to lunch. I couldnt eat any of what I ordered. Its great food. They wouldnt let me take it home. And they took it off the bill. I actually would have eaten it later at home. But they refuse to let me take it home as the quality would be too bad to enjoy. Quite surprised to say the least. Id say that deserves 5 stars
Always delicious ramen for lunch. My favourite ramen spot in town. The ramen here, to me, tastes fuller and less salty than most others.
Had the tokyo tonkotsu ramen and everything inside the ramen was amazing, never had ramen at a restaurant before, used to going for pho at Vietnamese restaurants, but was amazed with everything from the bok choy in it and hard boiled egg to the tender pork slices in my tokyo tonkotsu ramen, very quick and friendly service as well.will definitely come back here again in the future.
It was a hectic day, but my partner and I managed to get a table right away. The service was quick, and the server was really helpful. They recommended the spicy miso chicken soup, and it was amazing! It was my first time trying ramen, and I loved it. You should definitely go there before they run out of ramen.
My favourite spot for ramen in Edmonton until now
I don t understand the hype. Been to dozens of ramen places in japan, so I know what good ramen tastes like. Ordered the tonkotsu ramen, and it was watery and salty(just not good at all), with mostly miso flavor, and perhaps a tiny hint of tonkotsu broth flavor. The colour of the soup wasn t even correct for a tonkotsu broth. Chashu meat was bland unless smothered with soup and the other toppings. The other bowl was the yuzu broth - the yuzu flavor was way too powerful and not balanced with the lightness of the broth. It s as if they took straight yuzu juice, added salt and fat, and made it hot. I think this place could benefit from revisiting some of their recipes and try to incorporate more balance and umami in their flavors. Just not a fan of flavor boosting using salt and fat - needs more actual flavor. Kasey ramen is a lot better tasting. Will not be returning as this was quite disappointing.
My first time having Ramen and it did not disappoint. The Black Garlic was absolutely delicious. Come early for lunch!
The best ramen in Edmonton hands down. Great service and the food is awesome with huge portions.
I live in this neighborhood and always order Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen. One thing is certain: they used to be an excellent ramen shop. However, after my last two visits, I was disappointed with both the taste of the ramen and the behavior of the servers, and Ive decided not to go there anymore. The ramen broth has become extremely salty, the amount of noodles has significantly decreased, and the chashu I used to always add was cold, hard, and smelled like bad pork. Even the chashu ramen from a cheap convenience store would be better than this. I wanted to throw my chopsticks and leave, but I finished my meal just because I didn t want to waste my money. There are obvious reasons why the taste of food changes: either the chef has changed or they re slacking off because they have too many customers. They hired another strange server who hurriedly cleared my bowl, making me feel rushed to leave. I didn t tip you guys that day because I was in a bad mood. If youre going to serve food like this, either lower your prices or improve the quality. Even the chashu cup ramen I had at a convenience store in Shibuya, Tokyo was better than this.
The food is always great here
Cute little spot in a great location of the city! Service was excellent and I appreciate how the staff manage seating. Despite some negative reviews about not seating until the entire group arrives, this is the best way to operate a small busy place. Empty seats is wasted money, customers should not expect to keep 4 seats empty waiting for late arriving friends when there is a line up for a table. Food is excellent, yet still room for some improvements if they choose to. Tokiwa is already a popular spot, so there is not a need for them to offer better allergy friendly options; however, if they did, for example a gluten free noodle option, it would likely be even more popular, especially in the Brewery district and surrounding area. Definitely a place I will go again.
It was good.
Fast good. Tightly packed but efficient. With good service In out 18 minutes. Food
I ordered the hokkaido miso ramen with chicken substitute. It was good but the broth is quite salty. The interior vibes are minimalist and functional. I can understand the hype but their menu is limited and they re only open during lunch hours.
I loved the ramen, the service was really quick and lots of options. However the space was not a lot of space but reminded me of a traditional ramen shop. I was not aware of the close when soup is done however I did see it on door, waitress mentioned and I saw after on website !
Disappointed with the food. Black garlic soup is not really good as it has mild bitter taste. The only good food is BBQ pork, soft and thickness is right. Soba is the worst as its not really soba. They said its soba soup which I have never heard of. Soba soup for ramen?
If this is the best ramen in Edmonton, I feel sorry for the people living here
Best ramen in Edmonton but not as good as ramen in Japan. So expensive but its typical for Edmonton. Its a nice treat once in awhile, arrive early before selling out. I only wish they would get normal ramen spoons, the spoons are terrible.
Delicious every single time. They know what they are - a ramen joint - and they do it exceptionally well. Expect a minor wait in an obnoxiously cramped entry, but its well worth it for the best ramen in the city.
Wow Very good ramen Food
Tokiwa Ramen impresses with its diverse menu. Tried the Aka Kara Ramen and loved spicy and satisfying burst of flavor. Must try! Super friendly staff!!
I tried the special pork belly ramen. The broth is flavorful without being too salty/overwhelming. We went on a Sunday at 12pm and had to wait ~40 minutes for a table. Parking: It was really difficult to find parking because the lot is shared with so many other businesses. There are a couple car pool reserved spaces, so car pooling is the way to go.
Best ramen in Edmonton, I wish the open hours were longer tho
My friend recommended we go here for lunch and it was so worth it. I dont typically enjoy driving into the middle of Edmonton but this was worth the drive. Perfect portions, quick service, delicious food. My friend and I realized after that we got each others order, but we enjoyed it so much we didnt really care. Vegetarian options: A few vegetarian options are listed on the menu Parking: With all the shops around parking may take a while to find a spot. Kid-friendliness: Had a few kids in there with us and the staff were very accommodating Wheelchair accessibility: Theres no stairs, however the entrance is so narrow and restaurant so compact Im not sure a wheelchair could fit very easily.
Always solid ramen. I ve been to Japan and this ramen is as close as Edmonton will get to having that kind of authentic experience. Love grabbing lunch here.
Edit: we went and four guys in my table ordered extra noodles (like they ALWAYS do) and when one of them did not finish and was wanting to take his left over home, we were told by the server like mentioned earlier you can t take it home because you ordered extra noodles , which the server who took our order never explained. The owner/manager then comes and says he will do it this time but - I think you already knew you can t do that, because anyone could make an extra meal out of it . Yes, the left over noodles and broth that I m paying for, will be eaten later on by the same individual. Once again, been here multiple times, no one has ever told us this rule. And we do pay for all the extras that we order. I get being stern about your rules, but train your staff better if you really want to implement these rules. My whole table never once heard of this, so for the owner/manager to say I think you already knew before that was quite rude. I still stand by my previous review, service is still the same, not once had I gotten good service, which is unfortunate because the food is great. Love the ramen here but the servers are always not smiling nor any enthusiastic. It really ruins the atmosphere. Ive gone here multiple times because the ramen truly taste great but every time without a fail, the servers has let me down. I never hear the server say thank you or apologize the slightest bit if there was any inconvenience.
Amazing ramen every time.
An absolute must visit for ramen in Edmonton, rich flavourful broth, chewy noodles. It s been a hit every time we ve visited !
Best ramen in the city by far, no exceptions. The broth alone deserves high praise. Food comes out quick. Service is 10/10
Excellent
Best ramen in the city. Make sure to arrive before opening! They are crazy busy Parking: Lots of parking Food : 5/5 |
Best ramen in the city, you will always see a line around lunch time which tells you how popular it is. I have tried most of their menu, the black garlic and the aka kara are some of my favorites. I also go and try the rotating feature as often as possible. The picture is of their pork belly feature, nice light broth.
I told the server this was my first time and she told me spicy Goma is the most popular. I was seated at the counter overlooking the staff preparing the order. There was a sign no video or photo of the kitchen . Next to me sat a gentleman who was there also for the first time. He commented on the portion too small for the price but he said the soup tastes good. I didn t have to wait long for my order. I took a photo before I touched it. There is a layer of red oil and a piece of deep fried ? on top of a small patch of some green vegetable. There are ramen, 1/2 an egg and tiny bits of ground pork in the soup. Soup is the main attraction. When the soup runs out, the restaurant is closed. Soup does taste good but it is salty and oily. I looked around and most soup are wasted.
It s the best ramen place in Edmonton. The prices have gone through the roof lately. When they first open, a goma would be 13.5, now it s 17.5. A 30% increase since they open 4 or 5 years ago.
When Im on the road for work I start to dream of this soup until I can have it again
Coming from Vancouver it s nice seeing Japanese owned ramen restaurant in Edmonton. The taste was on point, only downside is egg was little overcooked. Usually it has creamy middle but it was more on the solid side.
The noodles here are generally OK, the soup is rich and mellow, and the service is prompt and attentive. The disadvantage is that the noodle soup is really not hot! Its a bit of a waste of such a good soup. It would be better if the taste was lighter and not so salty. I will try tonkotsu ramen next time. I hope it tastes good.
Its definitely not worth the wait, and the food is nothing great and overpriced.
Wow, Ive been on a massive ramen kick the last few months and I have to say this was my favorite so far. The place is small and you can expect to wait, but well worth it. The broth was savoury and rich, but had some more complex flavours that made it stand out from the rest. The menu is limited, but thats fine for someone whos generally indecisive, like myself. It was neat that the kitchen is so open, and they are efficient .Will be back to try the black garlic one next!
Busy location be prepared to wait in line as they do not accept reservations. However its worth the wait cause service is fast and ramen is delicious! Ordered black goma, it was very rich in flavour and my friend ordered Spicy goma. Portions were large and it was very cheap. One of my favourites spots for ramen in the city!
Hands down best ramen in the city - flavour is unreal, pork and chicken charshu are insane.
I had to walk out because they were so hostile, the manager told me my friend had to wait in line but there was no line. If he wasn t here with me pre seating technicially he will have to sit by himself. In addition I couldn t pre order even he will be there in 2 minutes that part was okay but I didn t even have my food yet and I just ordered. But what wasn t okay, was that after listening to him, he still told me when my friend comes he will have to have a chat with him as well and the delivery was so hostile. I think this place is so unreasonable in terms of policy for customers. However, I know their ramen is great.
The ramen is okay. Broth is great, but the noodles are not good enough. Toppings are weirdly inauthentic. Portions are small. Service is horrible, especially the (presumably?) manager. Overall - not worth the hype/wait.
I used to come here a lot before covid and don t remember this place being that busy. If this is the best ramen in edmonton then I feel sorry for the people living here. P.S. the chef needs to learn the difference between scrap and garnish.
Always so delicious and fast, friendly service.
Food was good, I would say that the broth is authentic. The black garlic was extremely garlicy. I know its garlic ramen but it overpowered everything else. The curry masala ramen tasted amazing but I would advise to stay away if not fond of spicy food. Overall, if you want to try something new definitely come here! Please advise that they are only open while there is still soup. Service was a meh as the server did not look like she wanted to be there.
Terrible experience. The add-on options weren t properly marked on the menu, so we ended up paying a lot more than expected. When I asked to take the remainder of my food home, I was told: Unfortunately we can t give you a container if it s not at least half eaten . And it was. I have never experienced this in any restaurant before. Will not be coming back.
The best ramen ever good costumer service, staffs are so nice and welcoming with all smiles
Delicious broth in a Tokyo style ramen shop, get in, enjoy, and get out. They dont force you, I think you just get such quick service that you do likewise, and when they run out of soup they close so get there early.
Best ramen in all of CANADA!!!!
it is quite different if you eat real Ramen in Japan, but still good, comparing some ramen store in edmonton. service is not that good, wait for a long time. but still okey i like it. Food : 3/5
Went in solo, sat at the bar and had a quick bowl of ramen with cold green tea. Black garlic ramen, was excellent, rich flavourful broth, lots of melt in your mouth chasu, noods had a good bite. Best Ramen I ve had in Edm so far by a long shot.
This is the best place I ve been to for ramen. They make rice bowls, gyoza, and several different types of ramen. I ve had ramen many different places, this one is a cut above. Only open from 11am till the soup runs out really. The staff are always friendly. There usually is a lineup to get in as seating is limited. You can always sit at the bar and watch your soup being prepared.
My favorite place to eat. The spicy goma and black garlic ramen are the best.
Nice broth, rich in flavour, busy ramen place.
Literally just dined in 30 mins ago. Most of the waitress was welcoming but one of the asian girls gave me attitude like I did something wrong to her. the most awkward dine in ever for me. The ramen was good tho
Quick service and absolutely delicious food!
Great food, I love ramen so its good.
Worth the wait. Best ramen in Edmonton
One of the best ramen in town.. the waiting line was crazy but we did not wait too long. Totally worth it.
Really good Ramen.
This place now hold a place in my soul! My heart was broken my stomach didn t have anymore room for the broth at the end. I could eat this everyday, no issues. A culinary delight to the senses and the service is top notch! Now a favourite I will be frequenting as much as possible.
My family love this place. The best ramen in Edmonton!!! Jay the owner/manager is the awesome! 5
If I could give this place a 10/10 I would, getting there on the earlier side is definitely recommended but the food is worth every minute you wait!!
My partner and I decided to try Tokiwa for the first time. The ramen is good, unfortunately the same could not be said about the service. I asked to pay for extra noodles and for a take out container, as I had a significant amount of broth left over, and was told I had to eat my extra noodles there and was not allowed to take it home. I dont see the difference in eating them there or home if Im paying, but its not the policy so much that has left a bad taste, its the manner in which i was told. My partner was given a container to take her food home, but when asked for a second container to separate the noodles from the broth, was told they will not give you more than one container per person and that you should finish your food in the restaraunt. The servers are not polite and make you feel like an inconvenience. I will not be returning.
Nice ramen.
When I arrived alone and told them I was with a friend, they told me to wait in the hallway, as they wouldnt allow us to sit until everyone had arrived
Wow! No soup for you kidding, unless they run out. Amazing service, fast, easy view kitchen to watch the food prep. Amazing broth, noodles, everything. Line if you are not early but WELL worth the wait. Vegetarian options: Few different options that worked well for the vegetarian diets in our group.
Phenomenal soup. Incredibly flavourful and delicious. Very good value, highly recommend!
Best ramen experience Ive had in Edmonton
Very good Ramen, get there early are you dont want to wait. Its well worth the wait.
Phenomenal service from the owner and great food
Loved the Black Garlic Ramen! The garlic was subtle not overpowering. The IPA for my taste not hoppy enough but the name is clever. My ratings: 1 star - do not go here! Stay away!! 2 stars - I do not recommend it. 3 stars - alright to good. I would not return here but you MAY enjoy it. 4 stars - I recommend it! Yes, I d like to return. 5 stars - drop everything now and come here! You are missing out fo shizzle!!
Visit: July 2023, May 2023, April 2023 July 2023: got some black tea and a small pork rice. It was actually very filling for the price! The restaurant is always packed whenever I go there. The soup is packed with flavours and feels like a full soup. The noodles have great texture as well. Ive tried the Black Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen and Tokyo Tonkatsu and both were excellent. The store closes when they run out of soup, which seems to be around 2-3pm usually (on the weekends). Go there early to reserve a spot! Overall, excellent ramen shop with great food and great service. One of the best, if not the best in Edmonton!
Delicious, fast service.
Delicious ramen restaurant. This spot gets REALLY busy during lunch time. Be prepared to wait a bit. My party was seated at a big table with others eating beside us. The vibe was fun and authentic. The space was bright and airy with high ceilings. I can t speak to the cleanliness of the washrooms. The service did a great job. They stayed friendly and happy thru all the crazy lunch hour. And the food was delicious! I would go back. Note: if you want gluten-free and/or sustainably raised meat, this place is NOT for
Overall, very good. Ramen was perfectly done, al dente. Tried the spicy miso, Hokkaido miso, and feature ramen: chicken karaage ramen. Spicy miso had great flavour, good depth of broth but wish it was spicier. The chicken karaage ramen was good with a nice, light broth. The red onion made it interesting but did not love the arugula as it was overpowering the delicate broth. The gyozas were pretty good and perfectly fried. The men in the group felt the noodles were skimpy and ended up ordering an extra bowl of noodles to share. Don t love the rushed and crowded atmosphere of the restaurant. They put 5 of us at a 4 person table with a very rickety folding chair. Very tight for the person sitting at the end, bumping into the table behind. Fine for a quick lunch but definitely not a place you re welcome to linger at. It s good but I don t need to go back.
One of our go to places in Edmonton for ramen. No fuss, no gimmicks. Just great tasting ramen every time.
Tasty Ramen!
Went there for lunch today and found the shoyu ramen broth watery and lacking flavour depth, not much garlic taste either (kuro ninniku/mayu). The pork was not as soft as I ve had and spent just a bit of time in the broth prior to serving. There is much better ramen than this but this was still enjoyable. Service was super fast food arrived < 2 mins. Noisy space and people talking too loudly (not the restaurant s issue per se), needs improved acoustics.
Outstanding fresh ramen. A must visit for any ramen lover.
Best ramen Ive ever had. Service was amazing. Make sure to go early than later because when theyre out of broth they close for the day.
Very good food. Super fast service. You have to be in and out because it is so busy and there are not many tables. Our wait was around 15-20 minutes but the party we went with was able to get in ASAP. We went at 12 on a Saturday.
Tokiwa Ramen is absolutely the best! I come here whenever I have the chance and always leave happy and full. I only wish the tables were a little bit more private, but since it is a small space, I understand it. Be prepared to pay cash or debit only!
Very good vegetarian ramen, had a 30 minute wait time to get a seat though.
This place is BUSY! For good reason. The food is tasty, authentic and has great portions. Everything is fresh and filling. Was hoping to try the Japanese Soda (Yazune ?!) but they were out. We had the Spicy Miso Ramen (its got good heat) and Black Garlic Ramen (lovely flavor). I love adding the chili oil mixture thats on the table. Adds another amazing layer of flavour. Also tried the gyoza. They were good, but a little too dark for our liking. Still delicious. Service was friendly, prompt and quick. Definitely dont want any campers here to get more folks from the growing lineup in to eat. Not a negative just a note! We will be back, and we will line up before opening No wonder this place sells out daily. A gem of a spot for Ramen.
I love this restaurant as its a true gem. They open late and close early, serving an extensive menu that makes your mouth water. Despite the long queues, its worth the wait as their hot ramens and bowl meals are heavenly. One dowside of this location is that it can be quite noisy and crowded, as it is a smaller space. When dining here, you may find yourself sitting close to your fellow patrons and cramped. Additionally, once you finish your meal, the servers are quick to clear your table as a signal that its time to leave and make room for the next group waiting to be seated.
They are constantly closed, and constantly run out of soup. Its all they serve. Maybe im crazy but in my experience, when a restaurant runs out of food they make more.
I would probably read this restaurant 3.5 but there is no option for that. But Im not a super huge ramen person but I do like to eat it once in a while. The soup and broth was pretty good but the portions were a little bit smaller than I would like them to be but all in all it was good. The restaurant is super clean and small and really busy so sometimes you have to sit next to people at the same table which is fine as Im just trying to describe the atmosphere. Ive also heard there can be a little bit of a line up to get in here on some days as they usually close at 3:00 p.m. everyday. Theres not much parking in this strip mall because its a super busy area and most of the parking stalls are taken. The staff were really friendly and nice. The food came out super quick as well, we were probably there from start to end and in and out in less than 30 minutes. They only take cash or debit as payment as well so keep that in mind.
Tokiwa is usually open until 3 or open until ingredients run out. I have had the tokyo tonkotsu as well as the black garlic. How I would describes tokiwa ramen is very balanced and almost lighter than other ramen restaraunts in town. Its flavourful and nothing is too over powering.
Place is always busy, but can get seated fairly quickly due to how fast service is. The food is very delicious and can t go wrong with much on the menu. Seating area is very close together so not much privacy, if you want more of a quiet atmosphere.
The broth and base is pretty good, but why they can t manage a soft boiled, 6 minute egg is mystifying.
Best ramen in the city. The service is impeccable. My go to is the chuka soba
Weve been here a couple times and we always see the owner (i think) go to the dining area and interact with customers. Which is good. But one thing we noticed was the owner only approach Caucasian customers or a group with a Caucasian person in it. Also, the ramen is good but not the best in Edmonton. A bit overrated. Its good though. I just dont get all the craze about it.
One of the better places in Edmonton for ramen. I prefer the Spicy Goma and sometimes order the gyoza with it. The broth isnt as strong as I like but you can tell that they use pretty good ingredients.
This place is like heaven. The noodles are fantastic. Out of this world feed your soul and body kinda experience. They are fast and super kind.
The best Ramen in the city! Gyoza nice and crispy. Black Garlic ramen loaded with flavor. Pork ramens base broth cooked for 10 hours! Highly recommend. Food
Ive had Tokiwa about 3-4 times since they have opened. Last I went was on Sept 6th and will be my last. I cant give this ramen a pass in my books no matter how hard I try. I think this ramen is overrated and overhyped. I think maybe its the fact that they are the only restaurant in the city that markets that they close when they run out of soup which makes consumer really want to get their hands on their ramen. I dont recommend their chicken charshu; it is literally marinated chicken thighs that you can easily make at home. What I DO like about their ramen is the noodles and pork charshu. The noodles have an excellent texture and the charshu is flavourful and has the right amount of fat. Also their egg is great; however I do wish they would include a full one with your meal (you only get half). Even if you order an extra egg; you only get one half for $1.50; thats a bit expensive for just half an egg. Also service is always great there; kudos to the staff! However, that is where my 2 stars comes from my rating. The tonkotsu broth is nothing special. To me, I only can taste salty thats all. Tonkotsu broth is supposed to be have a rich pork flavor with umami. Umami is not salty flavor. The broth is the bloodline of a ramen to me and if that isnt good; sadly I cant give any bowl ramen a pass regardless if the rest of the ingredients is amazing.
Always great food here. If you like noodles get extra and enjoy. Tables are very close together though.
One of the better place to have ramen in the city. Traditional and clean flavours.
Enjoyed the soup! Delisious. I think this place is the best Ramen soup pla e in Edmonton. Their cold teas are great too. My boyfriend and I were lucky to get in without waiting. Be ready to be waiting in line for 20-40 minutes, but it is worth the wait. Food
The manager rude service racial discrimination
Best ramen in town! Had to wait outside though but well worth it.
This place is next level there is a reason its lined up all the time. You sit WAY TO close to strangers though... Great spot tho!!
We ordered the Yuzu Shio ramen and the Black Garlic Tonkotsu ramen. The broth on the Yuzu Shio was chicken based and lighter. I found it became a bit too salty for me at the end but it was still really good overall. The noodles and the other toppings helped to balance it out a bit. The Black Garlic ramen had a richer pork broth. The amount of noodles was perfect and was also cooked to the right texture. We really liked the crispy lotus root on the top of each!
Good ramen but not so good customer service. Server is impatient, as if she hates her job. Will stick to our original go-to ramen place in the city. Not coming back.
Black garlic soup was delicious
Overall a decent ramen with decent service and an interesting ambiance. The ramen comes in a very good sized portion. The broth is good and the toppings are good, but lacking some flavour for sure. The service is good, quick, and thurough considering how busy it is in there! And finally the ambiance is interesting - it faces open to the kitchen so you can see the ramens being made, and its crowded, but I still enjoyed the hustle and bustle ambiance. I guess to each their own. Anyways, Id recommend giving it a try and seeing for yourself! You wont regret the experience.
They have stupid rules if lm waiting for another person they can t sit my even tho lm gonna make order so l had to wait on a cold weather while they had a lot of empty tables there , awful service!!!!!!! despite the delicious food, it is impossible to turn a blind eye to unkindness
It s alright. There s always a wait. And that s done outside.
Amazing Food and Great Place To Eat At.
Simply delicious. Quick and awesome service.
I got the tonkotsu black. The broth was really thick and was overly salty. Would be a 1/5 but the service was really good. The staff was really kind and super welcoming.
First time here had there chicken Ramen spicy was so good the best would definitely come back again. We had to wait 40 mins in line they dont have much seating capacity.
Tokiwa slaps so hard.
Some of the beat Ramen in the city
Worth the wait in line, in my opinion. Be sure to speak to the host and get your name on the list with the number of people in your party. And make sure everyone in your party is actually there! We saw several people trying to sit with only 4 out of 8 of their party there... Anyway, the ramen is delicious, I have had a lot of ramen in Japan and this is one of the best Ive had in Edmonton. We tried the Tokyo Tonkotsu and the Black Garlic, they were both great. The Black Garlic was a lot saltier/punchier but super tasty. Extra noodles are about $4 but you might not need them - my dining partner got some and felt very overfull afterwards! The staff were friendly and we were served quickly despite it being really busy.
The best ramen in Edmonton.
Worth the wait! Delicious soup, good price and owner was very sweet and accommodating !
Amazing
The food is exceptionally great! The broth was so rich but not salty. The ramen noodles was perfectly done, al dente. The gyoza was also great and full of flavorful. I would definitely come back here!!! This is my favorite ramen place in Edmonton so far... However, the place is a little bit cramped up and the waiting line can become too long during lunch hours on the weekends. They also have a limited working hours which kinda sucks. I hope they moved to a bigger location and extend their business hours until dinner.
Soup for me! So good ramen.
I had the daily feature soup, which was Tokyo Tonkatsu. It was so tasty. I asked for less garlic (still lots of fresh garlic). Heaps of cabbage, three generous slices of pork, and half an egg stop lovely noodles. The broth was sooooooo good. I couldnt eat it all, I had to take half home with me. The service was quick, friendly, and efficient. Cant wait to go back and try some other ramen dishes.
broth was tasty and staff was really friendly
Good soup
Used to be a really good spot for ramen but the quality just went down.
Great food and service! I have never had ramen before and it was a great experience. The ramen menu itself is pretty small, but the choices available are very tasty. Busy place arrive early or youll be waiting in line. Also not a place to linger as they have limited hours! Parking: Its at the brewery district so there is underground or above ground parking
Great go to Ramen places downtown. Having the chicken charshu as a topping is one of personal favorites. Food : 5/5
Not good to eat, very salty, poor service
Best ramen spot in Edmonton!!! Tastes just like back in Japan. I would recommend the Spicy goma.
Best ramen in Edmonton by far! We got the spicy goma and chef special (beef shabu shabu). Soup so flavourful and the texture of the ramen was perfect. Lots of bounce and not too firm. Portion size is decent too. Never disappointed when coming here. Dont go too late or they run out of soup!
This is the best ramen experience Ive had in YEG. Simple menu, but you really cant go wrong with any of their items. It seems like everything is made in-house, and it all tastes very authentic as someone who has tried plenty of ramen in Japan. Just be sure to get there early! They run out of soup quick.
Finally tried this ramen house! The soup/broth is full of flavor and the serving is good. We ordered tokyo tonkotsu ramen and black garlic tonkotsu ramen. Without a doubt will come back again and highly recommended.
This is by far the best ramen in Edmonton.
Try this Reman place in Edmonton, restaurant close for the day when soup runs out. Must go earlier. Long line but definitely worth the wait. Only open for lunch as the soup dont last long.
Food was fantastic, Had the Black Garlic Ramen. Worth the 30 min wait as it was plus 2 on Dec 20th. Any colder and I would not have waited outside.
It was a bit of a wait to get seated, but it was worth it. The ramen was rich with flavor and the meat was so tender. The staff were also very attentive. I d definitely go back or recommend it to others.
