10560 Whyte Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4E7, Canada
Continental Treat Fine Bistro on Whyte Ave. offers a taste of Europe in Edmonton. Since 1982, this family-owned restaurant has been serving classic Eastern and Central European fare alongside an extensive beer menu. You may enjoy such favorites as Escargots a la Bourgogne, Double Smoked Wild Salmon, Famous Dill Pickle Soup, Flaczki (Tripe Soup), Beef Tatar, slowly roasted duck leg, Hungarian Goulash, as well the Best Schnitzel. Gluten-free options are available!
What a cozy restaurant! We loved the atmosphere here. Our server ( I apologize as I have forgotten her name) was so friendly and very attentive. My husband and I each got the borscht. We both really liked it but, it was a little too sweet for me. We also shared the rouladen and we both enjoyed that as well. Our dinner mates had the cabbage roll and the schnitzel with mushroom sauce and they both very much enjoyed their meals as well. Great place with reasonable prices and good portions. We will definitely go back, when we are in Edmonton again.
The food was delicious (and all gluten free). We really enjoyed the pierogies, schnitzel, and chocolate brownie for dessert. Service was excellent and our food was served very quickly! The dill pickle soup is also wonderful.
Had a wonderful dinner at this completely gluten free eastern European restaurant. Not many higher end restaurants that serve this type of food. It was all really tasty and well portioned for what we paid. We were so full we stopped short of ordering off the dessert menu.
This place is next level. Absolutely delicious food, great portions for the price, some complimentary soup and bread, and somehow all gluten free. The beef rouladen was something special and the schnitzel was the perfect texture!
Fantastic with allergies! Great quality dishes each time we have visited. Thought we would try going at the lunch hour as we seen they had a happy hour menu on the window. They do not honour this. We ordered 4 orders of pierogies so beware!!!! lol . We would not question the bill as we love coming to this restaurant, that would be very awkward but we will no longer trust going at 2-4 pm for happy hour. The Mushroom and sauerkraut pierogies as well as the beef brisket pierogies are absolutely outstanding and unlike anything you can find elsewhere! Try out the Jasper ave location for a more romantic and relaxing atmosphere!
Just had (early) dinner here for the first time. As a Celiac, this was one of the best meals I've eaten. The entire place is gluten free (except for some bottled beer). I had to get Glutenberg that was on tap. What a great start! We started with dill pickle soup - delicous and piping hot. Then I had the Pork Schnitzel, upgraded to the spetzle and added on mushroom sauce. Thank god I did. The schnitzel was so crispy, the spetzle was buttery, the mushroom sauce was a perfect compliment. The veggie sides included shredded pickled beets and carrots, and creamy pickled cucumber. Omg everything on the plate was perfectly seasoned and incredible tasting. My partner had the salmon and mashed potatoes with a creamy dill sauce. She said the salmon was perfectly cooked and she rarely gets salmon that's not overcooked. We stopped ourselves from downing it all so we could get dessert to go. We shared the black forest cake and tiramisu. No surprise, both are amazing. I can't wait to eat here again. The service was also great. It helped we were the only ones here at 4pm on a Wednesday lol.
Have never been to this restaurant before, so our middle daughter thought it would be a perfect place to take me and her father out for a Mother's Day treat! My husband is from Germany, and the reviews of this restaurant held promise of an authentic European atmosphere and dining experience. I'm happy to say this turned out to be true! The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. There was a wonderful variety for the Mother's Day special and we were able to try their signature Creamy Dill Pickle soup which was a very tasty surprise! The atmosphere was quite European indeed, and the service was great. As it was a special day, we were able to enjoy mimosas with our meals and our desserts were decadently delightful! We did need reservations but I am unsure of whether this was because it was a busy, special day, or if that is always a necessity. I will find out soon enough because we are most definitely going back! I'm trying to convince my husband that in Canada we celebrate Mother's Day two weekends in a row... 😁
Amazing German food here at the Continental Treat Fine Bistro! Oh my… and everything is gluten free? Amazing! It is on the pricier side, however for the quality you get it?? Well worth it. The dill soup was divine, perfect mixture of the tart dill and yummy warmness of soup!! But my highlight was the pork schnitzel, with the mushroom sauce of course! So light, tender and fresh! Everything on the plate tasted as if it was homegrown and made with love in the back of house!
Great service and amazing food! The borshch is beyond tasty!
If I have to go to a gluten-free place, this would be the place to go. The food was better than most, but I for sure would not pick this place unless I was looking for gluten-free food. Which I generally dont unless I am with my family that has gluten allergies. They have done a very good job of making the food taste as good as possible without gluten. The food was good, not bad, by any means it just felt like everything was missing something. Although I did have the chicken stroganoff, and it was pretty tasty just wish the pasta tasted more gluteny, haha
FOOD SO DELICIOUS
Beautiful restaurant. Service was excellent. The pork chop and beef pierogi was excellent Chicken stroganoff wasn t the best
Dietary restrictions: Food is all gluten free!! Wheelchair accessibility: Moderately accessible, washroom not used. Door can be tough to get through (old building) but staff are very helpful! Food : 5/5 |
A wonderful taste of Europe! Thank you for a fantastic lunch Sergii!!
It was our first time eating here, and my husband and I had a great time. Our server Sergii was very generous, accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. I was ecstatic to find out the whole menu is gluten free (as a celiac) & even more please after trying the food. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for delectable food & a good dine in experience. Will definitely be back. Dietary restrictions: Menu is 100% Gluten free!
I really don t know what happened to our favourite dining spot is their prices increased which is fine but your quality has gone downhill drastically and their servers went from caring to just a cold cordial type of greeting maybe distress there chicken schnitzel is barely recognizable for any type of meat inside the breading, which is dry salt seems to be on the increase of all their foods. now at the best of times I am truly disappointed now a year later after seeing what I said about them, I take it back. Your staff is friendly again and a food quality is up thank you. for coming back to your standards. Vegetarian options: Your chicken stroganoff if you ask for a veggie stroganoff, they ll give it to you without the chicken
This was once my favorite restaurant to go to for many years. My last visit on November 14th was again very disappointing. The food was below standards, the chicken snitzel was dry, mashed potatoes were full of hard lumps and cold, the cucumbers were in a creamy sauce instead of the traditional vinegar brine. There has been a significant turn over in staff as well and the consistency of service and quality of food continues to decline over the past year. Not to mention the washroom was in a unkept state where the garbage was so full it was overflowing onto the floor. This was about 5:30-6 and the restaurant was not busy. I cant imagine how over the course of the day the garbage was not emptied. I do have pictures of this but will not post at this time. This used to be a five star restaurant to dine at. No longer a fine dining establishment. So incredibly sad to see.
Excellent gluten free restaurant. Pierogies are very good and you can buy them in packages to take home. Eastern European cuisine.
Excellent food and service every time! Dietary restrictions: Entirely gluten free Food : 5/5 |
Our waiter Sergei was so excellent, we really enjoyed our night, the food was amazing! Overall a great evening :)
We done at Continental Treat because the food and atmosphere are wonderful. Happily it is also 100% Gluten Free which means our celiac daughter can come and enjoy anything on the menu without concern. Highly recommend this establishment. Our server Joel was wonderful and made the evening special
Was our first time dining at Continental Treat. SUPERB service, Joel & hosts! If only servers from all over Edmonton could come watch and see how it s done. The escargots were divine. The pork schnitzel was crispy, tender and scrumptious, but the mushroom sauce was extremely bland. My mom had been looking forward to veal schnitzel and was disappointed that only pork & chicken schnitzel were available, so she ordered the special instead (and loved it). The mashed potatoes were not fluffy and were barely warm. Best borscht soup we ve ever had. Loved the apple strudel. Relaxing atmosphere. We all loved our dining experience at our new favourite restaurant. Can t wait to go back!
Kinga was a great server, we enjoyed her service and the whole dinner was fantastic. Will recommend Continental Treat to all my friends
Maria K. Was our server and she did a great job making us feel special.
Amazing food and wine but most important the service was exceptional! Maria K was helpful and attentive, she suggested the perfect dishes. Definitely coming again
Excellent food and service! Sergii was attentive but not overbearing which was exactly what we needed.
Out of the places I ate this week, visiting edmonton. This was by far the best service.
I left a fairly negative review a year ago. I am very pleased to report that Continental Treat is back to the top of our list! Food was outstanding. Service great! And, they have gone back to tablecloths and linen napkins. Back to the way it had been for the last 30 years. Nice change. Now, if they would get rid of gluten free and go back to the best rye bread, which was always a treat, we would again be very impressed. Overall a delightful dining evening. We will be back.
Thank you John for your excellent service. Continental Treat has been a long time friend to our appetite.
The food at Continental Treat Fine Bistro is absolutely exquisite from the signature pickled cucumber soup, a delightfully delicious balanced taste, between the cream of the soup base and the tang of the cucumber, to the perfectly cooked, melt-in-your mouth, salmon and the sweet but light Black Forest cake desert. The service was impeccable, with Joel, knowledgeable and helpful with the menu and attentive throughout the meal. As an international traveller to many countries and a visitor to Edmonton, this was a wonderful culinarily experience that I would encourage others to seek out, whether local, or from abroad.
Staff is very polite and the food was sooo flavourful. I ll definitely be coming back
Sergi was one of the best waiters that have ever served me. He was helpful in selecting our meals. Very courteous. Wonderful. The food was amazing. Dietary restrictions: All the meals are fully gluten free and super delicious.
A warm atmosphere, delicious food and great service today for us by Sergi. Dietary restrictions: All Gluten Free!! Thank you! Food : 5/5 |
Fantastic service Sergii! We enjoyed the Escargots à la Bourguignonne and the Beef Rouladen. Food is always next level delicious. Continental Treat is definitely one of our favourite places to eat!
Nov 2024, coming again! (2022) Such a treat to have an entire menu to choose from! As someone with Celiac Disease, I usually have a handful of choices, and have to ask a lot of questions about food preparation to avoid cross-contamination - Continental Treat as an all gluten free restaurant is a delight! We tried the dill pickle soup and French onion - both amazing, though we both preferred the French onion. Hubby had the Munich pork chop over kopytcha, I had chicken stroganoff with spaetzle. Dessert was strawberry Romanov for him, strudel for me - and there was the only sad moment all night. I know its hard to make gluten free pastry but it was not flaky, not crispy The filling was amazing but I avoided the pastry, esp the rubbery bits next to the filling The waitress assured me people usually love it and eat the whole thing, but she made it up by bringing a brownie to go. I would definitely try again, but might go for some of the lighter fare next time! European fare can be pretty hearty!
Delicious food, great service and amazing atmosphere.
Gluten-free and delicious!
Gluten free perfection
The most amazing gluten free restaurant with European dishes! So many choices and tasted extraordinary! And Joel our server was excellent!
The food was excellent - nice portions and happy to accommodate requests. I don t know how they manage to make everything gluten free and sinfully indulgent at the same time. Service was prompt, polite and helpful- Joel went above and beyond to make sure our evening went smoothly. There would be pictures - the strudel alone was worthy of a photo essay - but we couldn t hold back long enough for a picture. So good.
Food is so tasty. We ordered the escargots and prawns to start. Chefs kiss! Prawns were cooked perfectly. My husband had the schnitzel and said it was the best he had. My polish pork was also delectable. Must finish off with the Cheesecake, the lightest, most sensual party of the palate. Lastly, our server, Joel, was the perfect level of attentiveness, never intruding. Dietary restrictions: Everything on the menu is gluten free
Wonderful service. Michelle was so friendly and the food was delicious. The bonus is that everything is gluten free. Paradise for a Celiac!
Dietary restrictions: Great for gluten free Food
Joel was excellent! Had such a great experience and a delicious meal Will definitely be coming back Food
The food was amazing, but the service was incredible. Thank you, Sergii, for making our dining experience so great! Highly recommend the dill pickle soup and pierogis :)
Marie was an awesome server, very friendly, helpful and a lovely smile
I have a severe Gluten Allergy and this is probably the best place in Edmonton! The whole menu is gluten free (if youre Celiac like myself) this place is amazing! Thank you Maria A. For the absolute amazing service!
Maria A is a fantastic server. Very pleasant friendly and accommodating. Very knowledgeable about the food. Fantastic young lady. Great asset to the team!
Absolutely amazing Maria A., was so kind and patient and made our senior Aunt with special needs feel so special on her birthday. Great staff and amazing service. Cant thank everyone enough for making us feel so special. Kid-friendliness: Generous and patient. Accommodating and kind.
Thanks Joel
Excellent food and service! Sergii was very knowledgeable on the menu and recommendations. Perogies tasted just like grandma used to make! 11/10 Dietary restrictions: All gluten free
Go here! Do not second guess. Everything is gluten free and god it does not taste like it. Your gluten eating boyfriend will still have a fantastic meal. I had the chicken schnitzel and mashed potatoes and it was divine. It comes with little slaws on the side too to add to your meal. So good! My wife had the pirogies and she called them an 11/10. Sergi our server was also so kind and attentive. Get in the car and come here!
Maria A was great
Maria A was wonderful!
what a great find. As somebody who struggles with being gluten-free and often left with limited options This is a true sanctuary of delicious food I can actually eat. Great service. I will be sure to get takeout and visit again soon.!
Joel was an amazing server. Very attentive. Food very tasty. Pickle soup amazing! Food
Wonderful, knowledgeable service. Thank you Sergi Food
Delicious food, cool music. We had a great time
Food was AMAZING , and even BETTER was the service thanks to Carly. She was on point from the greeting, and made sure we were satisfied through out our meal. 10/10 would recommend again Food
I was able to take my scooter and there was room for it Wheelchair accessibility: Yeah, my scooter was able to go into the business. Food : 5/5 |
Fabulous pierogis! We tried three different kinds and loved them all. Definitely a must try. The entire menu of gluten free which is great and takes so much stress out of eating out. Dietary restrictions: Fully gluten free menu!
Delicious gluten free meal. Extremely rare experience in Edmonton. Best part was when the owner/manager greeted an elderly gentlemen at the door and respectfully and discretely filled his 2 cups with ice and water, but also helped him gather the contents of his pockets he had dropped. ... the entire exchange was so compassionate and human that it made me fall in love. Food was delicious, service was lovely, and best of all they are clearly good people. Love. Love. Love.
A very tasteful restaurant with an incredible menu and wonderful staff. The bartender was a delight, and the manager John was our amazing server for the evening. Food was incredible, will absolutely be going again. (I was able to eat some things I haven t been able to for the years since going GF, and could not be more grateful).
We have been loyal customers for decades, and years ago had written a review on how good this place was. Well, last week we took our son, his wife and their 17month old daughter to 82nd ave for dinner. They would not bring anything for our granddaughter to snack on while we waited for our dinner. We asked for rice ? - don t have any, fries ? - don t have any. Can you make her a piece of salmon (which we had ordered. For her meal)? NO - she will just have to wait like everyone else. In the course of the 2 1/2 hrs that we were there I had to get up 3 times and call the waiter (new Asian waiter), 1st to place our order, then to bring our soup (mine was cold), and then to find out if we were ever going to get our meal. Plus he forgot to bring one of the soups. I have never been treated this bad at any restaurant. The next day a phoned the restaurant and talked to a John, requesting the owner, Sylvester to call me to discuss. He never returned my call. How they have changed ! - Sylvester - I never intentionally blocked your phone number. I will have to check what happened and unblock it.
There was so much black pepper in the mashed potatoes that I threw it away. But Sylvester was kind enough to send me a gift card for the same meal. The dill pickle soup is the best that I ever had. And the German Cabbage Rolls are awesome. I will be ordering this meal for years to come.
Excellent food and value.
Amazing food and service with an atmosphere that brings you back in time. The Schnitzel and Rouladen were perfectly done. The ceaser salad was probably the best Ive ever had at a restaurant, with proper portion sizes for everything. For those looking for wonderful comfort food, I highly recommend Continental!
Soooo good! Dill pickle soup best in town!
Amazing Food and fabulous service! 10/10
Great food, great service.
Sergei was a wonderfully charming waiter and deserves a raise. The amazing dishes were complimented by his wit and joyful mannerisms. A stunning culinary experience.
Wonderful waitress! Dietary restrictions: Excellent GF options Food : 5/5 |
Get the black forest cake. Shout out to Michelle!
Black Forest cake was amazing!
The Black Forest cake was amazing, I came In just for that! For sure worth trying, it wasn t even dry even though it s gluten free! Food
Our first time in this restaurant and I have to say, the food was so good. I totally recommend a visit here. It is pricy but it will not disappoint.
Appreciated some old school quality food. Service was great and the atmosphere was very welcoming.
Our Server Sergii was on top of it all. Food was so flavourful Dietary restrictions: Amazing. All gluten free. Food : 5/5 |
I love the goulash!!! The sauce has such a great flavour and the beef is so tender. Can t beat the atmosphere - best cozy spot for dinner in cold Edmonton. Only drawback is service can be slow, but it s great for a relaxed evening.
Great evening with friends treated to a great meal and really good service. Would go again. Update: Went again and have in fact been several times since writing my review and its much the same.
Sergii was fantastic - really made our afternoon special
Fantastic service food was delicious! Sergii was super friendly and very sincere. Food
Delightful completely gluten free food with eclectic range of dishes Dietary restrictions: Gluten free kitchen Food : 5/5 |
Maria was fairly new but gave my wife and I outstanding service. We wouldn t hesitate to come again.
Thank you great service from Maria! Delicious!
One of my favorite restaurants. Love the dill pickle soup and schnitzel. Only downside, I wish the sides with the schnitzel were bigger, they are so good I always want more. The blackforest cake is the best I ve ever had. Anytime we bring friends/family here, they love it too.
We loved Maria. We loved our food. We loved our table. It was a great anniversary lunch!
Great, totally gf place. Some vegan options. The food was good, but somewhat Germanic and heavy for a hot day.
Excellent homemade food. The ambience is a bit dark. The staff very friendly
One of our favorites for a reason - great food always - great service and always a nice evening out.
The food and atmosphere at Continental Treat is always incredible. The quality, the taste, the authenticity is all there. However, the service is also exceptional. Last night my family and I went for dinner to celebrate some great news and our waitress, Hannah, truly went above and beyond. She was naturally welcoming, attentive, pleasant, and provided us with amazing service. She had overheard that we were celebrating and made it even more special with giving some delicious Apple Strudel. Its hard to come by great service these days. Hannah really went above and beyond. Big kudos to the kitchen staff as well for always making incredible meals.
Everything is gluten-free and so delicious.
Continental Treat, until now, my go to place for Steak Tartar in Edmonton. So as a treat I took my daughter for Steak Tartar so she could experience something special. However, our visit turned out to be extremely disappointing and excedingly expensive for the food provided. The first Steak Tartar ($30.-) we ordered was presented very well and the portion was a decent size for the cost. However, the Steak Tartar was so over-salted it was unedible and we were forced to send it back. The Waiter willingly took it back to the kitchen, returning to tell us that the Chef would absolutely & willingly prepare us a new order. When the new order arrived it was seasoned appropriately & very tasty, but the amount presented was far less than what we had originally received. In our initial order we also ordered Baked Cambert, which unfortunately was unavailable as was our second choice of Muscles. So as a third choice we ordered the Smoked Salmon. It was an exceedingly small portion of 4 to 5 very thin small slices for the steep price of $22. The Salmon was hardly visible on the large pieces of lettuce on which it was served along with one slice of bread, a few chopped pickles and a few capers. The Waiter was very friendly, professional & attentive. He saved the day and is totally responsible for the generous tip received. I fear I will have to find a different trustworthy restaurant in Edmonton that serves safe Beef Tartar.
Amazing food, I couldn t even tell it was gluten free. Dietary restrictions: Entire menu is gluten free Food : 5/5 |
Amazing food!
Best place to take a Date. Doesnt matter what Date. Lol
Excellent food, beautiful restaurant, but the service isnt very good. Been going for years and always get this one server who seems to not like us or her job. I think its because we often come just the 2 of us and dont always spend alot. But always tip.
Great fine dining experience. Good location, parking in waking distance, nice layout inside, and also a patio at the back. The food is to die for. The Schnitzel, chicken, perogies, etc. The desserts are all to die for. Try a foggy London for a drink. Gluten free all the way. Fantastic place, both locations. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
The taste was incredible, and the portions were massive. Definitely go there if youre very hungry. Our server was excellent too!
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The food is beyond excellent. The service is very good. I give it a ten out ten rating.
Been going there for years, great service and delicious food! new terrasse outside was peaceful :)
Dietary restrictions: Completely gluten free menu Food
They don t mess around when they say world famous Dill pickle soup. From comfort food to fine dining that takes tastes of Europe from the North tip of the Atlantic all the way to the Mediterranean. I recommend asking for a seat near the windows as the kitchen is quite loud and sitting near the back can be hard to have any conversation were you constantly raising your voice. I ve eaten here more than a handful and each time I try something new and have yet to be disappointed.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Unlike anywhere else in Edmonton. Definitely will go back.
The beef pierogies are so amazing that its hard to believe they are gluten free. They set the bar incredibly high. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
Incredible and it s all gluten free! A must for anyone with allergies. Get the schnitzel it was to die for!!!
Great gluten free food.
On 82nd Ave the restaurants are casual for the most part, not at Continental Treat. The wait staff are in black attire, cloth table service and very nice ambiance overall. Our server was great. Went in starving and couldnt finish our lunch. Dill pickle soup unusual and delicious. Schnitzel could be cut with a fork.
Had the schnitzel with dill sauce with a side of the dill pickle soup. The soup was excellent, could drink a bucket of that. The schnitzel and accoutrements however was unremarkable, not really meeting my expectation for the price. I also had the black forest cake which was far better than I expected.
Great food, and all gluten free too! Lots to choose from! Complimentary garlic toast tasted great, and so did the chicken strip schnitzel!
Great and Tasty Food. The best Borsht I have ever had. Good menu selection. Large portions of food. Thanks to Andrew for Great Service, and upmost attention to our table and needs.
Consistently a great experience. The dill pickle soup and the steak tartare is one of the best in the city. Our server was sweet and attentive. The only negative was that their bathrooms are out of order and you have to cross the street to the hotel if you need to wash your hands or use the facilities. I hope that gets resolved soon!
Truly a Treat! To be able to pick anything from the menu without having to ask yourself can I have this? Its all delicious and its all gluten free! Very attentive and knowledgeable staff as well. We were super impressed with Roxana!
Would suggest the snitzel be served with lemon wedges just to add a nicer taste. Dill pickle soup is delicious. The waitress was nice and provided great service. One other thing please check to see if the patron has finished the soup before the entree is brought out. Some of us cannot eat fast and want the entree hot..
Adored the food, one wouldn t know it s gluten free! Dietary restrictions: Celiac disease Food : 5/5 |
Came for an impromptu late lunch and was beyond impressed! The quality and taste of the food is outstanding, I feel certain everything on the menu would exceed expectations! The manager, Beverley, was wonderfully friendly and we stayed beyond finishing just the chat as it was before the dinner rush and not yet busy. Though I m from Calgary, I ll be back very soon!
Great food, wonderful service! Everything was delicious. I had the dill pickle soup and goulash (meat was so tender), and my husband and son had pork schnitzel.
The food and service were quite good. Received a complimentary dessert because of some birthdays
The food was so good and totally gluten free from soup to dessert. It offers great German based foods. Paid parking only.
This is a cozy, delicious spot. Gluten free is the bonus! Dietary restrictions: Entirely gluten free menu. Food : 5/5 |
Went with a large group of people and the service and meals were excellent. Portion sizes were very large and a few of us had leftovers to take home.
Great European cuisine! Lovely and upscale place Vegetarian options: You can find many vegetarian options there. Dietary restrictions: Its gluten-free. Parking: There are not too much street parking options but plenty of underground parking @ Canada Place across the street. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy accessible entrance and entire restaurant.
We had a great meal. Our waitress Hanna was awesome, super friendly and was very attentive. Thank you Hanna! Recommend this restaurant to anyone , not just Celiacs, to have a great meal Dietary restrictions: Excellent for celiac
Im not sure why so many people love this place. I was wildly disappointed with the meal here. I found that the food didnt taste fresh, like 75% of the meal had been made that morning & then reheated as ordered... The dill pickle soup was the only redeeming dish here, but I wouldnt come back just for it. The schnitzel was okay & the sauce was very underwhelming; lacking dimension & salt. There was no salt & pepper at the table & that could have saved our meal... The staff were stoic & professional & running of their feet! Kudos to them! The washrooms didnt have hot running water from the faucet which is concerning... Its an Edmonton institution that I cant seem to understand.
Always a favorite place to visit for me. I couldnt recommend the smoked salmon enough!! The best part of this restaurant though is having classic meals in traditional styles and a great place thats passionate about their food and they love to help you with wine or liquor selections without seeming snobby or intimidating. I hear that they have a new downtown location too, so next time Im in the area I would make time to try it. Dietary restrictions: gluten freew
The food here is great exceptional. Everyone eats gluten free here, but the tastes are hearty and bursting with flavour. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate. My only complaints would be the placement of the bathrooms when you enter, sometimes thats an issue, and the faked my baked camabert was only 1/3 baked and cold and solod in the middle, but other than that, fantastic. Cannot recommend the dill pickle soup enough. I make it a point to stop here whenever Im in town now. Hands down my favorite dining place in Edmonton. Dietary restrictions: Everything is gluten free. You need not worry!
European food to try. There are some delicacies that are hard to find elsewhere. Because they are all big dishes, it takes a while to wait for your meal. The roasted duck leg was delicious, the French escargot was too salty
Great place for gluten free food. They are also able to accommodate my other allergies as well.
My wife and daughter have Celiac, it is good to know that we can rely on this restaurant without worry about a wrong order made or accidental cross contamination. Dietary restrictions: Completely Gluten free restaurant, and for my wife and daughter that is not a choice. If youre celiac you will get that reference.
Absolutely love this place and the food is phenomenal! It s so wonderful to be able to go to a restaurant and be safe for someone like my wife who is celiac. I highly recommend this place all around! The staff are absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere is old-school cool. We will definitely be back.! thank you!
A lovely place to relax over a carefully prepared meal & visit with friend. Creatively presented delectable desserts!
Excellent first visit to Continental Treat. Our server was very kind, attentive and contributed to an all around great experience. The food was very tasty and I will definitely be back! Thank you.
This place was fantastic! The ENTIRE menu is Celiac safe!!!! It was great to eat somewhere and feel safe about eating everything. They have the most amazing gluten free bread as well, I almost second guessed myself. Must try!! Not to mention the great service they offer as well! Very kind and helpful employees there and our server was impeccable! Look forward to coming again!
The dining experience in an all gluten-free restaurant was wonderful at both locations. This is now an important stop when I come into YEG!
Enjoyed our visit, last time we were here was pre covid, good time was had by all, excellent service, good hostess. Food was great.
This restaurant is a gem in the city with outstanding Polish dishes. Well done
White Street bistro provides atmosphere, taste and tradition with some emblematic dishes, beers and dishes.
Love love love gluten-free east European food and ambiance of the place! My fav-s are pickle soup; escargots; chicken pierogi with curry sauce. And Ive heard they are opening patio soon.
Incredible dining experience!! All the food was divine, totally loved the dill pickle soup, beautifully plated meals and great atmosphere I ll be back for sure :)
Went here for a mothers day supper. 10 people. Great staff. Very accommodating of special request and diet needs.
Dietary restrictions: Entirely gluten free menu Food
Great food, excellent staff, nice atmosphere. Definitely will return.
Delicious chicken schnitzel
Quiet, beautiful and intimate. Friendly staff and well prepared food. Went for our 15th anniversary and it was an amazing time Dietary restrictions: Good for gluten free and vegetarian
As a celiac its a big treat to be able to eat and enjoy everything on the menu
We have eaten at the white ave location for years. Tonights food was some of the worst food I have ever eaten. First every wine we ordered they were out of. Second out of five soups ordered one was hot. The schnitzel was cold four for four and kopytka and funghi was cold and had no taste. The high light was our sever she was great trying to make-up for the kitchens short coming. Will never go back . No more complimentary bread either, the down town location is just as bad ,they should have stuck with one restaurant instead of both suffering.
Wonderful food, great service and average prices. We will return.
Underrated for what a gem this is. Well-established Edmonton restaurant servicing Eastern European fare, with dishes from Germany, Poland, Hungary and more. I have been a repeat customer over the years and nothing on the menu has ever been a disappointment. My favourites: escargot for starters, dill pickle soup, schnitzel, duck. But can t go wrong with anything.
Made resos this past Thursday evening. Nice warm night for dinner on their outdoor deck! Right? STILL not open!!! Canceled reservation upon seeing non-functioning deck. How much longer Continental?
Unbelievable fine dining experience. Those of us who need to eat strictly gluten free dont normally get treated to such gourmet food! The kopytka and duck poutine was one of the most delicious things Ive ever eaten, would highly recommend it! Bring a large appetite, youll want to save room for dessert too. Dietary restrictions: 100% gluten free here!
July 21st was our first time on the lovely patio at Continental Treat nestled in a secluded area which creates a quiet haven in the midst of a busy area. Free street parking just two blocks away. The food was so very good. We tried the Continental and beet salads and plates of assorted pierogi. Both salads were presented beautifully and the dill dressing was our favourite. The menu is extensive and offers options for every diner especially gluten free. The wine spritzer, beer and red wine were excellent. We were served by an attentive friendly staff member. Most outstanding was the live music by Jeff Hendrick whose saxophone and vocals added ambiance to the occasion. We will be back with friends to enjoy more of the food and drink choices at this iconic restaurant with the best patio on Whyte! Dietary restrictions: Options for restricted diets.
Would not recommend. Have been to the downtown location and enjoyed it immensely so wanted to try their original location on whyte. The two restaurants are like night and day. Food was OK but the presentation was terrible. Looked like something a cafeteria worker would slop onto your plate. Service was abysmal. Server was snippy and short with us, made us feel rushed to order even though it was not very busy. At one point she even walked away while we were still talking. If you re interested in trying the food out do yourselves a favour and go to their downtown location. I myself will not be coming back.
Great food
I had the Schnitzel and it was excellent. My co-worker had the Pickle soup and could not stop raving about it.
Absolute gem in Edmonton. Took my husband here for his birthday and we left full and so satisfied. Thank you for a great experience:)
What a great place to eat. Our server was really amazing. The food was delicious. Recently becoming celiac it was really great to know this place has a 100% gf menu. No risk of cross contamination. We will return!
Weve only been here once but I was very impressed by the gluten free menu, dill pickle soup, and schnitzel. Well be back! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: Entirely gluten free menu!
Traveling from Vancouver I recently had an exceptional dinner experience at Continental Treats with friends I hadnt seen in years. The atmosphere was charming and comfortable, creating the perfect backdrop for our evening. This exclusively gluten-free establishment offered options that were both unique and delicious. Each dish was a delightful journey through European flavors, leaving us all very impressed with our choices. Even those that were not celiac (3 out of 4) raved at the combination of flavours in their meals. The attentive service added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. I highly recommend Continental Treats for a remarkable dining experience that seamlessly combines amazing GF food, a welcoming ambiance, and impeccable service. I have been celiac for 22 years, love to try all foods, travel the world and have never come across a restaurant like this, it truly is a Celiacs gastronomical paradise. No matter your desires, make dill pickle soup one of them! Dietary restrictions: EVERYTHING is 100% Gluten Free
Martina is so sweet! I met her at the Callingwood farmer s market and the dill pickle soup is absolutely phenomenal. And somehow not too pickle-y if that makes sense! I highly recommend.
A gluten-free fine dining establishment! I had the schnitzel, and they celebrated my birthday with a complementary strudel!!!
Vegetarian options: Not many options for vegeterians. We went with our vegetarian friend and he didnt like his dish at all! Food
Dill pickle soup was devine as always. Braised red cabbage too. Parking diastrous, but expected. Food : 5/5
A very peaceful, nice looking place with a pleasant atmosphere. Very tasty European food, professional services and good beverages choice. Not too expensive. Recommended! Food
Food has always been delicious, everything I ve had has been great. Service is great too very knowledgeable of the menu.
Best options for gluten free food on Whyte ave Vegetarian options: Soups Food : 4/5 |
What an awesome place. Dill pickle soup was absolutely delicious as well. Would highly recommend for to anyone and especially those who are gluten-free or celiac. The entire menu is gluten-free. Dietary restrictions: Excellent for someone who is celiac.
An amazing place with excellent food. Staff are friendly and service is great. This is now our #1 restaurant to eat.
We ordered a few items for take out, one of them being the beet root salad. The first issue I encountered was the portion size. I thought there must have been a mistake and I was given a side salad rather than the full salad as the portion size was extremely small. The second issue I encountered was that I had specifically asked for the dressing on the side so as not to have a soggy salad when I got home. Needless to say the dressing was on the salad. The third issue was that in the description it clearly says there are walnuts in the salad. There was none to be found. The overall experience has left me unsatisfied and extremely disappointed.
I have been coming here for 3 years and it seems like the food, both in quality and portion sizes, are no longer reflected in the current price. I had takeout tonight and was left a bit disappointed by the size of my cutlet, plus 10 small fries that were served as a side. Not to mention my dear friends salad It could have fit in the palm of a small child s hand.
Top notch excellent service!
What a wonderful little place! We came here as a party of 3 with one who is gf. We loved that she could order anything on the menu without worry. Our server seemed new but was friendly and aimed to please. Good wine selection, with lots of internationally brewed beers. The soups were incredible, the borscht was my favourite. The appetizers were also excellent, smoked salmon and escargot. Escargot was our favourite. I would love to come back and order straight appy s! The mains were good, the schnitzel was the favourite, it was impeccable. Impossibly crispy and juicy. My rouladin was a bit dry and lukewarm when it was served. The tartare was a little over seasoned and salty but quality meat. Dessert was strudel. For a gf pastry it wasn t bad, but we craved more filling. Overall a really nice experience.
The food was good.
Best pickle soup in town. Wonderful Hungarian goulash as well. Great room with a wonderful ambiance and view of the denizens of Whyte Ave to entertain you during dinner. Update: still rocking the pickle soup and goulash... continues to be a go to when in Edmonton.
A great German dining experience. As I cant compare to actual in country dining(yet) the food was fantastic. Soups are a must, delicious and hearty. Chicken and shrimp dish was great. Bread and beer was authentic. Prices vary but most were above $30 when all was said and done. On Whyte ave which is currently under some construction so it was a pain to get there. Parking is around back. Dietary restrictions: Has gluten free options. Wheelchair accessibility: Slightly cramped seating but could be accommodated.
Very good food and the service was exceptional. I look forward to my next trip there. The Dill Pickle Soup was amazing.
We tried this restaurant for the first time for our anniversary and the food was amazing. Our waitress (Gwen) was super nice and helpful with questions and suggestions. I really liked the coziness of the restaurant (Whyte ave location) I would highly recommend.
Ordered the beef tartar which was about 50% raw onions. It was not edible. I sent it back but they charged me for it anyway. The entire $29 for the lunch entree. Also the floors of the restaurant are carpeted which probably contributes to the smell. The staff seemed nice. I was surprised they charged for the entree.
It was busy and we were there celebrating a friends birthday but I ordered the drink special strawberry campari and didnt get my drink until after our meals were served. Not impressed and the perogie should have had a vegetable or side salad. Very plain for $23.
A beautiful experience! A taste of Europe. A very unique menu. Pricey but very good value for your money. Parking around back; otherwise very difficult street parking on a main drag.
Best chicken Ive ever had. Best chocolate martini Ive ever had. Dietary restrictions: Perfect for celiacs with their gluten free menu Food : 5/5 |
Amazing place to visit. Very good food.
I love this restaurant. Had heard of it but never been until a few weeks ago. The atmosphere is beautiful and the server and manager very hospitable. Also appreciate their vegan option and 50% off wine and beer on Wednesdays.
We celebrated a friends birthday tonight. The schnitzel was very good, and the dill pickle soup is very tasty. Our server dud an excellent job of caring for us. Parking: Being located on Whyte Ave, limits your parking availability on the avenue. But lots if free parking on 83 Ave.
Excellent European dishes, excellent service.
We had a lovely time here. We ordered the camembert cheese as a sharable, a bit disappointed as it was served with rye bread( would have preferred crackers)but the cheese and toppings were delicious. My girlfriend had the borscht and she loved it; I had the sauerkraut and potato soup and I was very disappointed, it lacked any flavor ( I believe they rinsed too much of the brine off of the sauerkraut, this soup needed some kind of bite to it). The lovely waitress, Beverly, took this off my bill and even gave us a special chocolate cake for my birthday, which was that day. Not sure, if we will come back here.
Extremely hot in the restaurant. The food was okay - the Whyte Avenue location has better food and larger portions. I will not be going to this location again . Disappointing :(
We have spent hundreds of dollars at Continental Treat. Their food is very good if you enjoy Polish/European cuisine. However, in the last year or so, not only have their prices have risen significantly but what is most annoying is their options for tipping for both dining-in as well as take-out. My most recent take-out order automatically added a 20% tip to the cost of the order. In my mind that is ridiculous. It encourages me to no longer recommend this restaurant to friends.
Great atmosphere, good food and great service. Chicken in mushroom sauce was very good. I didnt care as much for the shredded beets. Overall a very nice place.
The meals were fantastic Amazing flavours Don t miss stopping here absolutely loved it The only down side the servers greeting sucked almost left Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian dishes we loved them
My husband and I enjoyed a beautiful date night here. The night we came there was live jazz music ! What a treat . Everything we tried was remarkable and we cannot wait to come back and try more. We had escargot, dill pickle soup, goulash, salmon and tiramisu!
We actually ate here twice in one week since the food was so good! The perogies are excellent and the food had so much taste. Great portions and value , noting everything was gluten free! Highly recommended
Ive been going here for years. I absolutely love their dill pickle soup. The service was fantastic as always. Thank you!
Mmm gluten free chicken schnitzel.
Ive gone here a few times, once for lunch and once for supper. They ask if you have any allergies and everything here is gluten free so you dont have to worry as a celiac. The food was really good and the service was excellent. The last time I went I got the pork schnitzel and I highly recommend it! Its on the pricey side, which is why this is a place Id go for a special occasion.
Excellent food. Really enjoyed the evening.
Great eatery well presented meals with friendly and attentive staff. Parking: 3 spots available more needed. If there were more we werent aware. Food : 5/5 |
Fantastic experience.... Food, service, everything about it was great. Not having to worry about what had gluten and what didnt was also a pleasant surprise. Will be returning.
Delicious restaurant all GF, great service. The veil was amazing!
