HONEST~LOCAL~HEARTFELT FOOD ~SINCE 1982~
Good homestyle food either reasonable prices and well made cocktails.
Went for a breakfast, food was delicious. The cinnamon buns were a hit with my ladies, the bacon and eggs were good however, the bread for the toast and the in house “ketchup” were the hit for me. Great food reasonably priced. Staff was attentive and delightful.
This is a wonderful brunch spot near the university of Alberta. Great food and awesome customer service. I loved their cinnamon rolls - you gotta try them and apparently they run out quickly. As it's super popular you may want to get there earlier than you would normally plan. Our wait time was about 25 minutes. They also have parking right across the restaurant along the fence which is super helpful in case you are driving in downtown. Can't wait to be back.
Love the atmosphere of this cute little diner! You can easily have a conversation, and enjoy the atmosphere. Dessert was the absolute highlight—make sure you leave room for it!
The cornbread is the best I have ever eaten and I am from southern USA! The ketchup is homemade and delicious. I am vegetarian and gluten sensitive and they had plenty options for me.
Whenever I'm in the area, my wife always requests that I call The Highlevel Diner to check to see if they have any of their cinnamon buns available. It can be hit or miss depending on the day and time, but when they do, I stop and pick up a bunch. The cinnamon buns are her absolute favourite, as they remind her of her Baba's. They are humongous and fill a small plate, essentially a meal on their own. In my most recent stop, I was able to see the new murals painted on the building by the very talented Illustrious Interiors. It's definitely worthwhile taking a closer look at if you have the time.
Highlevel Diner is an often forgotten place that has become an institution in the High Street area of Edmonton. Serving up great breakfasts, it is a super go to for brunch and for mid day lunches. The space is quaint. The service is always friendly and helpful. And the food is very good. 4 x 🥞🥞🥞🥞
Service was so good and friendly. If you want their cinnamon bun, better go in the morning. So Gouda Burger, the bun was so soft and spongy. Meat was thick and strong flavour. Chili was a bit spicy for my taste. Coffee is refillable The sweetness of quinoa in salad was a nice touch. Art for sales Homemade ketchup is more of the sour side.
Love their eggs Benny. But the parking around there is the problem. Im in that area almost daily for work and today was the worst. I had to back down a one way due to so many cars in no parking zones. There was 4 cars beyond the no parking sign blocking all traffic attempting to navigate the area. I also made sure to call by law and ask them to go deal with the issue. I will continue to do this every time I see someone blocking the road from now on. If this means I have to call by law daily I will.
We pulled into a Highlevel parking spot to eat there at about 8:15pm but once we got out of the car we saw that it was closed. So being in the area, we decided to go to the Sugar Bowl. Once we left I saw that we received a parking ticket for $83.00. I called the Highlevel Diner the next day to advise them that the parking company was giving tickets to people after they were closed and on their behalf, the lady I was talking to(She said there was no manager on site) said, Yeah, thats what happens when you park in our spot. She didnt care at all. I would have been pretty upset to hear that customers of the area were getting tickets after hours if I owned a business there. To give a ticket to protect a spot when the business is closed is Unneighbourly, cold and not good for local businesses. If it said reserved for 24hrs, we may have thought differently. Nowhere in my mind would I have thought I would receive a ticket for this, its just not a nice thing to do! Merry Christmas to us I guess. Im not likely to frequent the area too much going forward as this puts a very inhuman feel to the experience that we have enjoyed there for so long.
Healthy food that accommodates to many diets, was good.
Cute cozy spot. Unfortunately, the food was not very good. We had nachos, black bean hummus with pita and fries. Nachos had no cheese the pita was not fresh and fries were overcooked. The drinks were also horrible. Our friends had the borscht soup and salad which was actually delicious.
A little disappointing and the service was subpar - our server was so flustered seating a kids birthday party that she barely had time for us. Once our food came we never had anyone come by to see how we were doing. My partners burger was tasty and, as always, the homemade ketchup delicious, but my Mediterranean plate could have used some love. While most of it was tasty (the chicken souvlaki and hummus particularly!) the pita that came with it tasted old and dry. Id have expected either homemade pita or something from one of several excellent pita bakeries in the city, not something that came from Safeways day olds shelf. At the very least, it should have been toasted. The overall dish was good but there are plenty of better places in the city that serve better food with greater enthusiasm.
I swear I already left this review. But it was the first time Ive ever been a friend was taking me out for my birthday. The 109th Street Burger was pretty awesome. I cant remember what the desert was called I think it was like chocolate pecan pie or something. It was good but it was quite Rich so if someone doesnt really like Rich desserts you might want to be careful. Dont know when Ill be back but I will definitely be back theres a couple other things Id like to try especially get there for breakfast. I just hate waking up before 8:00.
Good food, reasonable prices, excellent service, always busy.
Love the place, location, decoration and the food. Service is perfect. One of my fav breakfast places in Edmonton.
Borscht- different and delicious. We were there for hours catching up and the staff was awesome.
Went for breakfast. Quantity was decent but found it a little expensive
Our server gave us special care for my mothers birthday dinner. An enjoyable experience and a pleasant atmosphere for our evening out. Also many gluten free choices for those with food allergies.
I love this place. Im going to admit that I only came here to have a cinnamon bun but ended up having the nice chicken sandwich, which was really good! I also recommend getting gravy with the fries. Delicious! Also goes without saying that the cinnamon buns are second only to my Moms.
High Level Diner is a great! Were never disappointed with the food or service.
Haven t been here in 30 years (since my U of A days) and happy to see it is still charming with friendly service.
Drove around the block multiple times just to have the parking spot that just opened to be taken. Parking is absolute garbage here.
Service is incredible!! Super fast in and out place if you can t get in for brunch at Sugarbowl next door it s an alternative. You get what you pay for when it comes to the food not terrible but nothing to go crazy about either.
go-to diner in yeg ;) discovered today that green salad has instantly become my fav Food
Everything we had was homemade there and it was fantastic. Their cornbread is out of this world and also happens to be gluten-free! The staff/owners were very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant. Food : 5/5
Great food! Homemade food! Excellent food options for all; meaters, vegan a gluten free individuals. Yes. Its true. They also make their own ketchup and have a great homemade salsa. Try their cornbread and their ribs! Their ice tea, is great and it is as good as southern USA ice tea. Their long Island ice tea is delicious!
Something has changed here. The decor is nice and vibrant like museum but the food is juxtaposition to the ambience. Everything seems without care and microwaved. Don t waste your money. Go next door to sugar bowl.
We decided to try Highlevel because our favorite spot, Sugarbowl, was busy. Once we were seated, it took 20 minutes to receive waters. Our server didnt arrive until 10 minutes later. Our server seemed really confused, so we made really simple orders and didnt get drinks because we didnt want anything to be forgotten. It took about 50 minutes for our food to arrive. The food was decent. Our server never came over again, but a host came to clear 1 of our 4 plates when we were finished. We had to track down our server to ask for the bill. She set down the machine and just left. We paid and left. Not a great restaurant experience.
Lives up to the hype. Despite arriving at the busiest hour on a Sunday, they accommodated our party of 6 quickly. The vegan rancheros was the perfect amount of heat in a savoury breakfast dish. Obviously you cant pass up on the famous cinnamon buns - different from the traditional style, but thats what makes them so good. The eclectic and bustling brunch environment pulls it all together. Brunch aficionados must visit!
Food was good, service fast, and I enjoy restaurants with art work displayed.
Old fashioned diner. I had a great omelette with back bacon. Friendly service. Clean restaurant.
Literally the best burger i have ever had, i have never finished a burger at a restaurant and i devoured this burger!!! 100% recommend. Only downside is parking but thats mild Dietary restrictions: So many gluten free options its amazing!!
Very cute place for brunch! Was quite busy, and they don t take reservations for brunch on weekends, so best to get there early. It s totally worth it though! It s hard to find a place with good service, atmosphere, and food, all while being reasonably priced, but this is the spot for sure.
Always great for breakfast. Stuff is great and food is amazing!
Good food and service . Challenges are during dinner rush . There is a fair bit of confusion of getting a table and waitress attention . Reservations recommended.
So darn good and pecan fudge so good I can t say enough it was absolutely awesome beautiful artwork to look at great atmosphere and awesome food
Things are slipping here. Ive been a customer for over 25 years. We both had the short rib and both were very, very dry. And I mean VERY. It was like the ribs had been cooking for days and they were just plain dried out. As well, there is not even a hint of red wine in the jus. Im not sure if this is just a cost saving measure or someone new who doesnt know what theyre doing. The place needs a good renovation to the interior. Its old and dated. Based on the bad meal, Im not sure if Ill be returning or not.
For a diner I was pleasantly surprised! I had the fish and chips and it was a MASSIVE piece of fish and it was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly! Would definitely come back!
We had the soup, borscht, and a cabbage and sausage soup. It was delicious! Service was good and caring but a little slow on coffee refills. Weve also had eggs, Benny not too long ago, sooo good We will be back, guaranteed!
Always a great place. Great food and good service.
Honestly, one of the best burgers I ve had. The meat itself is seasoned to perfection and it s so tasty . 17/10
Their breakfast special is a bargain. Only $14 for 2 eggs/bacon or sausage/ toast/hash browns. A very large portion and the bacon and hash browns were very good. Unfortunately the bread was dried out before being toasted. Overall being able to sit on the patio in a quaint area of Edmonton is an experience not to be missed.
Super busy and not totally worth the hype imo. The short rib eggs Benny was not as good as I hoped. The meat was pretty dry and the egg was not as soft as I like (I realized they didnt ask how I wanted my eggs cooked). The menu is pretty basic breakfast foods. The house made ketchup is really good, so get hash browns with your meal. BUT THE CINNAMON BUNS ARE TO DIE FOR. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Bustling diner - vibrant! Amazing food! Huge portions! The fish and chips were fantastic! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free - many options!
Great breakfast, love the eggs Benny. Parking: Its kinda a free for all. Food : 5/5 |
Good fries and ketchup. Good service but kinda slow service. Amazing cinnamon buns.
Food was fine but nothing amazing or to die for , service was rushed right from the start and the restaurant was not busy, drinks were watered down, and decor was very dated. I appreciated the local art and supporting local artists. I was extremely disappointed that tipping is 18% for parties of four or more. Tipping should be a choice.
Thanks for making our grandma s birthday very special! Great food, service, atmosphere, and very well priced compared to other spots in the area.
Cinnamon buns are so so overrated here. Drip coffee was tasteless. Service is awful. So many better options in the vicinity.
We had a great brunch experience!
Had fish and chips, gross over cooked, burnt bread pudding, not coming back, trying to download pics, gl if u go,
Great food. I am gluten intolerant and they had lots of choices. Very good priced too
Great service. Ukraine plate well balanced for spouse. Spice bird sandwiches nice heat but messy.
Ukrainian special is on Thursday, delicious. Parking: Park in the lot across the street, in designated spots. Be sure to record license and time in the restaurant or youll probably get a ticket. Food : 5/5 |
The food was very expensive and only ok. Nothing special. Our hollandaise sauce was all kinds of wrong, clumpy and just not appetizing. Dennys is better
I have been going here since 1972.
Vegetarian options: Excellent Food
Very nice and everything rich. The service is a little slow.
I got one of the burgers it was meh just ok... tastes like they used homemade ketchup which is different. Food tasted just ok overall. Service was really good. I initially was gonna give 3 stars but the cinnamon bun was the best Ive ever had!
UKRAINIAN PLATTER NIGHT!! YUM!!!
Food was amazing. I had their club sandwich with gluten free bread and gluten free onion rings. They do have a dedicated fryer and station for gluten free food. Food was delicious! EDIT: Their fish and chips are gluten and dairy free. So delicious!
Omelette was just ok.
May 12, 2024 - 3 rating Brought my sister here for brunch and ordered their breakfast special. The food wasnt so great and the coffee tasted diluted. However our server was good so I still gave a good tip. The tables set-up are just too close for comfort. Not a place to have a quiet meal, too crowded and too noisy, wont recommend this place for brunch. April 2022 Brunch time - 5 rating My daughter and I went and I ordered the Vegan Ranchero whereas my daughter ordered the Canadian Sushi egg Benedict. Both dishes were delicious We also ordered their homemade cinnamon bun with coffee to end our meal. For take-out, we ordered half a dozen cinnamon buns!!! The place is well organized with attentive and friendly waiting staff. September 7, 2021 breakfast time I ordered the popular classic egg Benedict, comes with back bacon and hashbrown. Perfectly made! Coffee brewed taste great! (unlimited refills!) My server was phenomenal! This place has a cozy relax environment with stain glasses work of art and display of local artists hand paintings.
My partner and I were looking to eat somewhere cute and with delicious food. Highlevel Diner came up and boy are we glad we came here today! We ordered two very refreshing beverages (pear fruit spritzer & mandarin fruit punch[with lychee notes]) and those were delicious. For food my partner ordered fish and chips, and I ordered the salmon(prepared differently daily[today s: potato slice wrapped salmon on a lemon butter pasta]) which were both delicious plates. My partner made a point to say how good the Cole slaw was considering it s usually an overlooked side dish. I usually avoid pastas but I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied. So yummy! To finish our date off we got Affogato desserts(pistashio ice cream scoop, whip cream and an espresso shot), that was very tasteful and well balanced. Probably my new favourite espresso dessert. Anyways, thanks for an amazing dinner.
Can only speak on their brunch, I have been here over the years a few times. After going recently I found portion sizes and quality doesn t fit the price. The eggs Benedict came out with just egg, meat on an English muffin (no veggie or topping, did not look very appetizing) and 3 small breakfast sausages. $19. I ordered a farmers omelette that tasted pretty bland. Overall, I can make this type of brunch at home for much cheaper. There are also other spots in the city with better prices and larger portions/tastier with the same home style served here. Unfortunately because this place is so busy for weekend brunch I don t think they will be changing the price or increasing portions or quality any time soon. I will say the cinnamon bun with bourbon sauce is quite tasty. Service was also prompt which I appreciate.
By far the best eggs Benedict Ive ever had. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was great! 10/10 would recommend.
Salad and chicken was delicious and staff attentive
Fabulous food and service thank you very
ordered prime rib steak rare was served medium well soggy and burnt fries very disappointed at the kitchen staff and the chef
What a great place. The inside is so relaxing and eccentric. Food is great. Service is amazing
The food was excellant and the waiter was very professional and efficient. Parking: There are 10 free parking stalls available accross the street dedicated to the restraurant. Food : 5/5 |
Dietary restrictions: Tons of gluten free options Food
Beem wanting to try this place.for a while...sadly was not what was expected.
Finally tried this place and sadly I was very disappointed with my food. The ketchup style stuff they served was awful. No one ever checked in on how the food was, so we ate what we could, paid and left. Unlikely to return.
If you dont get anything else out of this review, please just know that the cinnamon buns are freaking amazing. That said, Ive been to High Level a few times, always for breakfast. The coffee is meh, the huevos are meh, and the eggs benny are decent. None of the food (aside from the cinnies) is knock-you-outta-the-park good. However, I was really put off by my last visit - went early (~9am) on a Saturday, knowing it gets busy and wanted to beat the rush. I went as a solo diner, and felt like I was put into an out of sight corner and forgotten about, and then rushed to leave once I was finished eating. The waitress was already cleaning the table off before I stood up. Secondly, about a quarter of the way into my huevos rancheros, I found a long black hair in my mouth (not mine). That was really unappealing. The huevos started off ok, but eating the rest of it had me gagging. The cheque came to $22 before the tip, for a coffee and the huevos rancheros.
Its a little hipster-ish, but the food is good & the service was decent. The prices arent sky-high, but they do seem to reflect that youre sitting in a trendy place by the U of A campus.
If High-level was once a good spot, it isnt anymore. The breakfast menu didnt have much in terms of options. The interior is run down. And the service wasnt that great. The menus are old and falling apart. This place really needs a face lift. I ordered a London fog (they charge $5 for a small cup) and it tasted funny. Like the milk was bad or there was soap in the glass. The smoked salmon eggs Benny was nothing special and didnt have much flavor. The hash browns need salt. The homemade ketchup is just tomato paste. Not interested in going back. Even mediocre chain restaurants like Alberts is better than this.
One of Edmontons classic spots. Great food and friendly service. Also, their famous cinnamon bun is awesome Parking: Hard to find parking on weekend brunch times. Same as everywhere else. To be expected
Atmosphere and service were great but I ordered the green curry and it was very disappointing and I rarely complain... there were barely any vegetables or sauce, the rice was overcooked, and it looked like it was sitting under a heat lamp for awhile. I expected more as I have had much better experiences there in the past but maybe it was because they were busy. Parking: Its a busy area but if you can find a parking spot behind Garneau theatre just sign up at the diner.
Great staff & food. Cozy, clean & tasty. The eggs benedict are beyond fantastic.
Always so darn good. One of the best vegan burgers in town (also delicious vegan curry) and good portion sizes for a very reasonable price. Very cute and cozy and a perfect place to enjoy a tasty coffee.
Ate here with my wife. Service was good at the table side. Waitress and host were fast and polite. Kitchen was a bit of a disappointment. We were in there with 5 other tables and they all had food already, except one, but it still took almost 30 minutes to get our food. They have a ton of gluten free options as well as a dedicated gluten free fryer. I really appreciate it as someone with Celiacs. Unfortunately the food was average and below average. We split a burger with onion rings and the chicken fajita entree. The chicken fajita we both enjoyed and I would give it 3.5 stars. The burger and the onion rings were a bit of a disappointment. Onion rings were a good try using chickpea flour but they were either over cooked (the flour was completely separated from the onion and the onions were burned on the inside) or the oil needs to be changed in the fryer. The burger my wife liked. I liked the mushrooms and the gouda but the meat was overcooked and tasteless. Like the meat had no seasoning on it whatsoever. Burger and onion rings gets a 2 star. Edit : As an afterthought, their house made ketchup is very plain. which it had a little more zip to it. Parking is free behind The Garneau. We came here before years ago and had about the same experience so decided we would not come back but with all the GF options we had to give it a try. I might give it one more try to sample some of the other GF options but I am leaning towards not. Dietary restrictions: A ton of GF options and a dedicated GF fryer. Probably the only reason I would give this place another try. Parking: Free parking in the lot nearby as long as you sign in. it fills up fast as there are not a lot of stalls but its a nice perk.
Great food, very friendly and attentive staff. Someone around to answer questions. Food well priced and affordable Parking: No idea if free parking as could not locate any
Always amzaing. Our server was fantasic and the food was so good as always.
Vegetarian options: Veggie Burger Food
Excellent eggs Benedict.
Heard so many good things about this place, wish I would have never ruined my imagination by actually going. Whoever is cooking there needs to go out to one of the tables, and grab a pair of salt and pepper shakers. There is absolutely 0 seasoning on anything. Fried chicken had deep fried blood stains all over it, and tasted like it was cooked in dirty grease. Husbands burger was so dry, overcooked, and completely lacked any seasoning as well. Only reason for 2 stars is because our waitress was nice. Not sure if this place has new owners, but if thats the case, just close the restaurant, and let people have memories of what it used to be
Good food, great service!
Awesome business, great food excellent servers. Top knotch staff with fantastic prices. Highly recommend
I love the huevos rancheros so much! I could eat here every weekend!
I enjoyed my eggs Benny but the star was the cinnamon bun with the bourbon sauce... soo good. Parking: Parking may be hard in peak times.
Cozy, clean, and beautiful place! Theres gorgeous oil painting on the walls for sale and the servers are very friendly and patient. We enjoyed the egg benedicts! They are pretty filling and mid range for price. The pork benny is very good.
The Short Rib was awesome carrots were great like they came right out of the garden.
Amazing as always!!!
Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten-free options Food
Delicious food served quickly and hot! We ordered the smoked salmon Benny, fried chicken sandwich, fries + gravy and the kids pancakes. Everything was tasty. Our server, a young man, was amazingly efficient and friendly. We had just left the restaurant and heard him calling for us at the door. We had forgotten one of our kiddos water bottles on the table and he wanted to make sure we got it. Thank you!
We enjoyed an impromptu brunch/lunch and highly recommend this neighbourhood gem. The classic bacon & eggs as well as the chicken salad sandwich my wife had were both excellent. The service was stellar as was our entire experience here. Parking: Marked parking across the street in alleyway. Be sure to check in your license plate at the host/front desk.
Great place to eat. It was very busy when we went which to me is a good sign that you re at a good restaurant. I am gluten free and this place has lots of options. I will be returning
Honest review, cause that s what I do. Let it be noted that if there were half stars I would easily give this place a 4.5. My four criteria are food, service, cost and ambience 1. Food I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict and it was quite good. However, this is really the only knock I had on this place. I wasn t asked how I like my eggs and they were a little over done for my liking. The hollandaise was too buttery and lacked that traditional hollandaise flavour. The ketchup for my hash browns was not what I expected as it was house made. It was okay, but I do prefer Heinz lol! The ham was great. It had a hint of maple flavour and the potatoes were great as well. 2. Service Outstanding! Quickly seated and coffee and water brought right away. Server put down the blinds for me as the sun was bright. Good was brought out quickly and hot. Server was proactive on coffee refills and asked if everything was good. Although the server faded towards the end. Forgot to bring coffee that she said she was bringing and then when she brought it, forgot the milk. She seemed a bit annoyed as well. Cost Reasonable for these inflationary times I suppose. Ambiance Great! Clean, good music. Lots of patrons. Cozy and good location. I would recommend and maybe try something different next time.
Corn bread is my favourite
Cinnamon buns!
Love coming here for brunch and enjoy the cute location.
Amazing service and food, atmosphere was very welcoming!! Will definitely be back!
For the price, it might be the best breakfast/brunch in town
Love this place. Food is always great. Our faves include the So Gouda Burger with bacon (mouthwatering) and the bread pudding is legendary.
I have been here 3 times now and I can confidently say this place is over rated. Honestly.
Food was excellent! Our meal was served on a warm plate, what a fantastic touch
Ive come here a few times. No matter what I order I like the food. I am very fond of their unbelievably ginormous cinnamon buns!
The foods amazing.
Service is just okay, cleanliness is sub par and food is sub par.
The portion of the food wasn t enough for the price of it.
Theres a reason its the most popular breakfast place. I got an amazing eggs Benny and a delectable cinnamon roll. However, my mother got a dried out cinnamon roll with limited flavour. Seems to be a hit or a miss, but the workers and atmosphere is definitely nice for mornings Vegetarian options: I eat halal so I specifically look for vegetarian options. Highlevel diner met and exceeded the mark. They have a variety of vegetarian options with no compromise on flavour.
Thanks for the parking ticket (100$). Nice cameo on you gotta eat here!
EXTREMELY OVER RATED....what a joke, I can cook better brunch food in my sleep. Save yourself the time and money, go anywhere else.
Revamped menu from the last time I was here, loved it then and love it more now. Vibes, food and service were spot on.
They gave up. Simple like that. They had been good for so many years. They used to make everything from scratch, use fresh ingredients and cook everything like they are supposed to. Now they gave up. Both dishes we ordered today were microwaved, including that Guinness pie with 10 tablespoons salt that my friend ordered. How do I know? The potato mash was pale colour and there was not even baking marks on the dish. My beef short rib was not even microwaved enough the first time that it was barely warm in the centre. Just simply gross. That beef was at least 3 or 4 days old if not longer. So, decide for yourself. But I m done with this place after all these years.
Good flavoured food but small portions and over priced. Apparently this place is busy all the time. Should use the money to upgrade. Bathrooms especially
Fantastic food and service!
The best overall breakfast I have had in ages. . . And the toast was amazing! Vegetarian options: A nice variety of gluten free and vegan options. Food : 5/5 |
One of the most incredible and insatiable restaurants in Edmonton. It s so great that it needs bonus stars! The menu is diverse, locally sourced and seasonal that offer just the right choices. The chef even makes all the house sauces, from scratch. From the ketchup to the mayo. Everything tasted so fresh and flavourful. The salad was the meal star (mmm that dressing) and at most places it s not even an afterthought. My steak was over cooked but it was so tender and tasty that I ate it anyway. Our server Kelly was awesome too. Good service and menu knowledge. I wish I knew about this place sooner and I can t wait to try the brunch on the weekend that people stand in line for. Kid-friendliness: My kid didn t like the homemade ketchup as much as me. But they had Heinz on hand which was thoughtful for the kiddies.
We had a really nice dinner here. The food and service are amazing! The pulled pork on pretzel buns sliders will be remembered
This was a great spot for some amazing food, drink, and conversation. Loved the Happy Hour drink specials. Had the Cottage Pie and the bread pudding was AMAZING (albeit decadent - could feel my teeth crying out with the massive syrupy sugar rush). Highly recommend if you are in the University of Alberta area.
We came down for the Theo Von show and when we were headed down to the park realized it was cancelled. We were left wandering looking for something to do when we came across this cute little diner. They were packed due to the cancelled show and understaffed as they weren t expecting the rush. The servers and kitchen did absolutely amazing considering and the food was AMAZING. We will definitely be back.
Great homemade food but parking is very hard to find!
Havent been here for a while. Its still here and still the same. Park behind the Garneau theater, sign in and seated immediately. Service was quick and friendly as it always is. The menu has everything you want with vegan options for those that want Food was delivered hot and delicious looking. Wife had Heuavos and I had the florentine Benny. I forgot about the homemade ketchup but it was great as always. A delicious well paced relaxed breakfast at a classic place, what better way to start the day.
Went around lunch time, for brunch. Nothing jumped out on the menu, so I asked when they stopped serving breakfast. Was told we could still order. Was very happy, as I had been waiting to try the Huevos Rancheros. It was amazing. They make their own refried beans. Also tried the sweet tea which is made in house. Loved it. Would have liked more corn tortillas, but did not ask. Overall, a wonderful place for brunch.
High-Level Diner in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is a delightful dining destination that delivers delectable delights and a dose of cheerfulness. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the awesome and affable April, our attentive waitress, whose service was second to none. The fantastic food offerings truly tantalized our taste buds, but one dish stood out with scrumptious supremacy the giant cinnamon rolls! These colossal creations came with a choice of a creamy cream cheese frosting or a sweet bourbon and butter glaze, both capable of captivating even the most discerning dessert devotee. The ambience at High-Level Diner is amiable and accommodating, with both indoor and alfresco seating options. Whether you prefer a cozy corner or a spot under the sunny sky, the diners dynamic atmosphere ensures a delightful dining experience. Adding to the restaurants allure is the wonderful decor, featuring stunning Stainglass designs that cast colorful patterns across the space. Notably, the establishment showcases captivating artwork available for sale, a thoughtful touch that elevates the overall dining ambiance. Highly recommended! Parking: Free parking across street. Kid-friendliness: Very kid-friendly!
Our server was Kelly and she was awesome! So attentive, sweet and accommodating! As someone who s allergic to gluten, it s SO hard to find a good place that takes cross-contamination into consideration. They have gluten free fryers, and their gluten free bread was so good! My meal was DELICIOUS, I also absolutely adored their homemade hot sauce! I also found their prices very reasonable. I will definitely be returning and recommending this place to others! Dietary restrictions: Perfect spot for accommodating gluten allergies!
Great cinnamon rolls. A bit expensive, but very tasty!
This Diner has that perfect cute and classic feel but without any of the grime that usually comes along with most Diners. Its a beautiful little spot in the Garneau area that really helps complement the neighboorhood. For a Diner, Id have to say this place likely has the most interesting menu in the city... And everything on it is beyond delicious! Though I can imagine picky and non adventurous eaters finding this menu too unique and not traditional enough. But that is the best thing about the food here, its so yummy and interesting for a Diner! They even have their own artisan made house ketchup! Lastly, but most importantly, the service and staff are super sincerely friendly, efficient, and attentive. This place has become my favorite Diner in the city... it is hard for me to believe there can be a better Diner around here. I HIGHLY recommend checking this establishment out! Parking: There is a free parking lot across the avenue from the Diner, but you HAVE to sign in your license plate # in a book within the entrance of the Diner.
This is a great restaurant for lunch.
Home made ketchup was GROSS, eggs were like rubber I asked for hard cooked, not run flats. I m positive the sausages were cooked in large batches and re-grilled to reheat. Toast was definitely made with old bread. Coffee was mediocre. I hope it was a bad day for them. It was gross food. Nothing seemed fresh. Setting and service was fine. Parking was a challenge. Parking: Parking around the university is challenging.
Very friendly servers, the Spice Bird Chicken burger was delicious the portion size was very justifiable for the price the two chicken breasts made the dinner filling, with the house fries to go along with made the meal perfect. Loved the fish n chips as well. Parking: The parking across the diner is free and reserved only for the diner customers.
Drove 30 minutes to go here and had about the same wait in line to sit and eat. It had great reviews and was highly recommended by others with celiac/gluten intolerances, so we were really excited for Sunday brunch. (I m celiac, husband is not) The eggs bennys were just meh. Mine was suppose to have back bacon but it was just store bought deli ham. (I ve seen others pictures of their back bacon and it is not what I received). The hollandaise tasted like nothing. They didn t ask how we wanted our eggs. Both our hashbrowns were very dark brown, overcooked but still mushy and room temperature/cold. Sausages were clearly stored bought and re-heated. And I got just about the smallest latte I ve ever ordered for almost $7, and it also didn t really taste like anything. For over $60 for two people, we expected so much more. I understand it was busy (and the wait for our food/to get in was totally expected) but to wait that long for cold and honestly not good food was super disappointing. I don t understand the good reviews. Which sucks to say because I do appreciate their largely GF menu. To add, the server was excellent. No problem there.
Lovely place near to the University. Good, tasty food, kind crew. Really enjoy to eat here. One of our favourite places.
Nothing but great things to say about this restaurant. The food and drinks are delicious and the staff are the most kind and attentive people. The atmosphere here is so wonderful!!!
Thursdays Ukrainian meal is next level amazing !!! LOVE the creamy sour cabbage rolls... Amazing!!
Great vegan and gluten free options. Love the location, the team and the food. Great options for any challenging diet.
Went for brunch, service was ok, but she forgot a part of our order when we ordered something else halfway through eating. The portion sizes were horrible and all the food was bland and mediocre. We all left still hungry and the bill was well over $100 Parking: Free parking when you register with the restaurant, which we did do when we came in (on the sheet they provided) and when we left, there was a guy there about to write us up a ticket, he said you have to register in there and we said we did, he s like oh ok and walked away. Had we not come out he would have written us a ticket and we HAD registered. Wasn t impressed!
A great way to finish any walk, with a tea and one of their amazing soups.
Parking is a little hard but the food is so fresh and so good. Me and my little toddler had the veggie omelette and hash brown, fantastic. Highly recommended
We actually went here because Sugarbowl was so packed and this place is a hidden gem. Very friendly servers, quick service and the food was amazing!
Such great food and service! I would definitely go again - the breakfast is amazing.
Wow what an awesome stop while spending time in Edmonton!! We had a couple Ceasars, Bacon Bean soup, Borscht soup and So Gouda Burger with green salad!! Everything was over the top delicious and we will be back!! Service was excellent as well!! Thanks Kiera and entire Highlevel team!! I know why they call it Highlevel..... because of the service and food!!
The high level diner is the best place to eat in Edmonton, the service is out of this world, the food is amazing, and it s always a great experience. Whenever we go, whether we dine in or get take out, the service and food are always amazing and the staff go above and beyond! I will always recommend the highlevel dinner!
Great location, mediocre food and service. The Ukrainian lunch plate was a disappointment. Although the borscht was excellent, the perogies had rather thick shells, and the minuscule sour cabbage rolls were okay - just not sour.
Quaint little diner with antique tables and local art for sale! We met our kids here for breakfast and it was great. They have 5-6 different types of bennies as well as other great options. There is in the parking lot across the street! Friendly service and the food was received quickly. I had the berries and whole grain oats.
A great spot to grab some brunch. Not as busy as their neighbors, and the food fantastic. Definitely make sure to grab a cinnamon roll and try their home brewed iced tea. If youre in the area, this is a must visit for brunch.
Delicious every single time. Staff is always welcoming and great at dealing we dietary restrictions/requests! Parking is limited, but location is great.
Expensive limited choice and not good quality
Nice little place, good food, epic buns, but little pricey
Its asking me to help others know what to order. Just dont. I came here based on a recommendation, and honestly I was expecting more. Perhaps it was an off day, or the staff were getting tired after a busy morning. But the wait times for what arrived didnt make sense. At first when we were seated, we were told that breakfast was done early. It turned out this was not accurate, our waitress informed us that they had run out of English muffins and as a result there were no eggs Benedict left, not a problem. I went with the simple breakfast and added sausage. Two eggs, three rashes of bacon, two sausages, hash and toast. Based on my breakfast, which was a very simple, not technical request, HighLevel Diner is relying on reputation and location. Ill give the coffee 4.5/5, which spares the overall reveiw. The food was lack lustre to say the least. Im trying to break the deeply engrained habit of clearing my plate regardless, HighLevel helped me succeed in this pursuit. The bacon was nice, the lower piece of toast was tasty, I didnt eat the top one as it got hit with some mystery debris that the waitress said was egg in a panic. The sausage I ate was bland and chewy, I left one, the eggs rather rubbery and the hash browns bland. Quite a shame as I wanted to love this place. I had heard good things, the style and decor is pleasing and the atmosphere, busy and neighbourly, if I had to describe it. If I were there for a cup of coffee it would have been 5/5.
Beautiful stained glass artwork hanging everywhere, quaint decor is delightful for a historic diner. I really recommend the green curry. The service is infrequent and the homemade ketchup is acid. Food
Excellent eggs Benedict. Loved the cinnamon bun and great homage ketchup
Excellent GF fish and chips
Was in early on a Saturday morning with my partner, walked in at opening. The atmosphere here was lovely and relaxed, which is just what we were after. Servers and other staff were warm and welcoming, and attentive to refilling drinks and clearing plates. It was clear that there were regulars in from the familiarity with some of the other tables :) Food was delicious and well priced! For two dining, including coffees and a (famous) cinnamon bun, just over $50 (with a tip), which feels rare to find around the city now. We just might need to become regulars, ourselves...
Love everything here, the atmosphere is so cozy and gentle, I love the decor, especially the stained glass decorations. Service was amazing, warm and friendly and personal. The food is wildly good, we had the GF fish and chips (proper!) and the cheddar chicken salad sandwich was unreal, warm chicken salad and cheese, on French toast style bread- total comfort food. Thank you to our server, she was so lovely, it was the perfect lunch for me and mum!
Beef short ribs needed a bit more time in the brazier.
Had a great value breakfast.
Great outing with our family. Good food a bit expensive but not rushed.
Very good!
This was such an amazing place for a date night!! Service was amazing and the food was OUTSTANDING!!! Also.. friendly tip. Call for a reservation rather than going online
Authentic and delicious brunch!
I really liked the vibe as I entered and the decor. It was busy as we arrived for 12:50 pm having a reservation wasnt necessary but I did it anyways a day before. There was still seats. We had a beautiful window seat. It quieted down around 2pm. To keep it short I found the customer service wasnt the best. Slow to say the least. The servers changed so I cant pin point one person. It took a long time for the one request and to have the bill at the end. Food was alright. I think a bigger serving of coleslaw would of been great and not overly burnt fries that were small end pieces for the most part. Fish was delicious and just what I was craving.
Awesome place but parking is a nightmare!
I really enjoyed the Guinness cottage pie and their fries are fantastic. The service was really great as well
First time here, was highly recommended by our son and well definitely be back the next time were in Edmonton. Everyone in our party of 6 had a different version of their bennies and no one was disappointed.
Love this Edmonton icon! Great food, super location, go when youre in the neighborhood.
Always great for a meal or dessert and lait!
It s not what it used to be. Food is now re-heated (the crispy chicken on the Spice Bird sandwich was dry/hard enough to chip a tooth, with Nashville hot sauce consisted of Chinese restaurant chili oil mixed with too much salt, caramel sauce on the bread pudding was nuclear levels of hot - the server had to carry the dessert on a separate plate to get it to get it to the table only for us to find the middle of the pudding itself was ice cold.), standards are not kept, with old mealy tomatoes making onto salads and sandwiches, French fries that are obviously old, cold, and re-heated again, and Caesar salad drenched in dressing to cover up how wilted and dark the lettuce is. What happened to you HLD?
Its a small but nice diner with reasonably priced food. I got the Flourentine Eggs Benedict with a side of hash, and it was very good and surprisingly filling. The poached eggs were cooked on the harder side, but they were still slightly runny and paired great with the creamy spinach. The hash was crispy, and the house made ketchup made it taste even better with the slightly tarte taste.
Really nice place the servers were great. The food was good. I got 3 different dishes when I was there with my friends. Would recommend. Just really loud there Parking: Their parking lot is so small and hard to get into theyre surrounded by one way streets, it is so hard to find a parking spot. You have to park like 3 blocks away.
Classic comfort breakfast food. Always reliable
Great brunch/breakfast
Good food and place
Great feel in a local institution. Best cinnamon buns you can get anywhere.
Very good breakfast! But it was very busy and loud
Good stuff, but parking is difficult. Might have to walk a bit but its great
met with a two mortgage brokers from our brokerage. lunch menu, sal ad and Cajun chicken. The food was great... decent portions, the only problem was there debit was down so I had to eat transfer my meal cost.
Good meal for a good price. Quaint older building. Staff was great
Whenever I m in the university area, the High Level Diner is on the menu, they have an excellent selection of Gluten Free items at a reasonable price, and the best part is nothing tastes gluten free!! Dietary restrictions: Lots of Gluten free options!!
Nice place, loved the Guinnes pie
Favorite place to eat in Edmonton! Wonderful variety of truly gluten free items, and are great with about allergens. Beautiful art displayed, that you can buy too i believe.
Food was good and very accommodating for food allergies. Dietary restrictions: Gluten, dairy, seafood and eggs Food : 5/5 |
Always love the food
Loved the atmosphere. Food was fantastic
