Here at May, we want to share our love and passion with you. Eating together and sharing food is what we do. We take the time to source our ingredients from local farmers and producers. We created an open space for ideas that reflects our ongoing journey to give you the most honest approach of ourselves and our food.
A wonderful evening out! The menu is easily sharable or individual. We shared a lovely variety of dishes...the food is flavourful, perfectly prepared and offers a number of options. Every one of which was delicious! The service was quietly helpful, unobtrusive and very service oriented. The atmosphere was relaxing and we appreciated not having to shout over loud music. Five stars across the board...we will be back.
Delicious!!! This is our third visit to May and it just gets better and better!!! Broccolini with pickled grapes-------a favourite. Try the butter rolls, oh my, my!! Funky cocktails. Had a really great evening with the 6 of us. Excellent service! We've had the same waiter every time and he's a delight. Highly recommend a visit to May's.
The food was phenomenal. The service is always fantastic and personable. Eggs benny on cornbread is brilliant and flavourful and now my favourite brunch in Edmonton.❤️
Got the corn bread Benny and mule. The mule was a bit sweet for my liking, but everything else was great. The hash that came with my the benny's was pretty good.
We had a great evening at May. Brad took care of us very well. I can’t remember the last time we had such attentive service. The restaurant is beautiful with nice wooden tables, comfortable seating, and a stunning bar. The drinks tasted great, with a vast selection of wine, cocktails and aperitif. We enjoyed the food. The chicken drums and cucumber salad were delicious.
Second time at May restaurant- came for dinner this time. Everything was excellent! All dishes were very well seasoned and full of flavor. Each dish was very unique. We ordered everything to come out all at once. Oyster Tempura Mushrooms - very earthy, unique flavor. Everyone loved it, even the ones who typically don't love Mushrooms. Honey Coriander Chicken Drums- excellent! Roasted Parsnips- favorite dish! Sirloin- full of flavor. Simple, but delicous. Lamb- tender. Delicous. Dessert- Basque Vanilla Bean Cheesecake- very unique. Not too sweet. Great to share. Service was excellent. Our server had everything memorized. Food came out fast. Overall a great experience.
Elegant dining for cheap, the decor is lovely. Came with a friend, we ordered farmers breakfast and milk bun french toast. I would reccomend coming early or booking a reservation as the space in here is very small and gets busy relatively quick. It does get quite noisy due to all the people but overall service and food was nice.
Lovely experience. Brunch goes until 3pm which was awesome. Taylor, our waitress, was very friendly and gave good suggestions. My husband got the cornbread Benny and I got the milk bread French toast- a nice twist on chicken and waffles. The flavours in everything were absolute perfect and the house made hot sauce was not spicy but complimented the dish nicely. The cornbread Benny was good, the potatoes were nice and crispy. Everything was garnished nicely and portion sizes were perfect. Atmosphere was lovely- they play nice soft music, and the lighting is great. We sat beside the window and it was nice watching the street as we ate. Would definitely recommend for brunch- we’ll come back again sometime for dinner!
The service was ok . our waitress seemed very new and didn t have a seasoned customer service instinct, which is a shame, since we came for a bday . We got the tempura mushrooms and beef tartare for apples and it was alright . I had beet salad and it was a head of lettuce with beets goat cheese and a minimal amount of walnuts with dressing . Ive had really good versions of this meal at other places but this didn t live up to my expectations. The orange walnut chocolate blonde didn t taste like anything . Most incredible brioche bread I ve ever had though
Food
We live in the neighborhood. We were chatting with our friends and they suggested we go over there for a drink. The appetizers are great. We drank a bunch ate a lot and had a thoroughly wonderful evening. 124th St. is lucky to have this new gem.
Dear May Restaurant: You were so. Good. I loved everything about you: the fantastic, helpful, prompt service from Brad. The ambience. The entire menu (not that I ate it all but I wanted to / which says lots). Listen to your server! Order what the server recommends! All 3 recommendations from Brad: mushrooms, cucumber salad and the STRIPLOIN were sock removing good. This restaurant should be packed on a Sunday night. Go help Make that happen.
Great food! Good service. Cocktails were awesome too!
This was our favourite place to eat on 124th. Was.... My chicken was overcooked to the point it tasted burnt. The foam was drenching my meal. With some of our fav items now removed from the menu, there are better options to enjoy elsewhere. So sad.
I had the gnudi. Overpriced dish. It was way too garlicky.
Incredibly disappointing visit. My coffee came in a dirty mug, then I found not just one but SEVERAL hairs in my food. The server basically shrugged and offered no recourse. Escalated the complaint to management who (over a week later) have still not reached out. I submitted a Public Health report and definitely wont be returning to eat here.
We were a group of 9 for lunch. Apologize for the lack of pictures. Food was fantastic as was the service and the music. We shared a few dishes, all were delicious. The restaurant kindly let us order a couple of items from the Bites menu (normally available from 3- close): Tempura Oyster Mushrooms (so tasty and crispy) and Bread Rolls (could have filled up with those). From the Gardens & Grains: Romaine salad, smashed cucumber (this was a hit with all) and Grilled Broccolini (lovely charred flavour - one of the ladies ordered it for her lunch it was so good). For mains, again everyone was raving about their dish. I may be missing a couple of items but I know we tried: Brunch Menu: Chorizo Verde, Brunch Greens, Sandwich Menu: Buttermilk Fried Chicken Thigh (very flavourful), Bison Patty (they had it as a lettuce wrap), Chorizo Verde Smash Patty (loved it). Each dish had something unique added to it - black garlic cream, pickled grapes, candied jalapeno, charred garlic cream. I highly recommend going. The outside restaurant signage doesnt jump out at you - you do need to look for it. Well worth a trip! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options
Really enjoyed brunch! The lemon ricotta pancakes were so yummy and great to share with my husband alongside our main dishes.
A planned two person date turned into an 8 person sibling get together. May was great at accommodating us. Server had great suggestions on food and quantity. More shareable plates than traditional choose your own meal dining. Value was amazing considering how many different dishes we tried. Standouts were the smashed cucumber salad. Oyster mushrooms. Risotto. Chicken drumsticks. Octopus. Great and unique cocktails too! Great time!
Second time eating here the first time was delicious but this second time was not great and the quality was not as good as the first time. Chicken was overcooked on the chicken and French toast. The ricotta pancakes were slightly burnt and the jam it s served with was the texture of tar (I had order this on my first visit and it was completely different this time). Service was average, restaurant was very loud and our server spoke like a little mouse, couldn t hear a word she said
I alway enjoy coming here, whether for the amazing rolls, coriander chicken drums, delish striploin (medium rare of course, I m no savage!) or just enjoying a glass on wine and talking with the always friendly staff. I didn t even mention the brunch yet! Come see for yourself, one of my top 3 go toos.
Food is spectacular! The cocktail list is very creative and tasty, and have amazing mocktail options as well. The Spanish Octopus is phenomenal, I would highly recommend. The tempura oyster mushrooms are a out of this world if you are a French fry or calamari lover! The grilled broccoli greens is so tasty with the best dressing. All the meat options are so creative and delicious. I have tried the striploin, lamb chops and pan-seared snapper and all are equally delicious. I highly recommend ! Prices are very reasonable for how spectacular the food is! I highly recommend you WILL NOT be disappointed. Dietary restrictions: Lots of dairy free and gluten free options !
One of the most elegant servings, dinners, pairings Ive ever had. The waitress was patient, courteous, discreet, knowledgeable and lovely. It was a great evening - well be back. The Tar tar was world class - just as she claimed. Food
Strongest recommendation I can offer. Menu is superb, and the food is delicious and professionally presented. The service is simply excellent. You must check this place out. Vegetarian options: Healthy and delicious veggie options. Ricotta and mushrooms for days. Parking: Plenty of street parking all around. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair and walker accessible.
Went to this cute restaurant with friends for brunch. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We had a very nice server and the ambiance was perfect for talking and hanging out. The restaurant is in a great location specially to stop by after a stroll. Really cool atmosphere, tons of menu options and great service!
Went for a brunch while our friend Marc is out of town just to make him jealous. We had Shakshouka and the Cornbread Benny. The Shakshouka was nice and spicy. I was glad to find out that cornbread goes great with hollandaise. The cornbread doesnt stand up to cutting through the peameal back bacon but it is still delicious after being pulverized. A little planning can avoid damaged bread by cutting the bacon off to the side. Came back and did a repeat order. Still good quality but a noticeable difference we think came from a different chef today. Parking: There is paid street parking out front and free parking across the street. The free parking may not last, the parking restriction signs have been flipped backwards so they might come back again. It usually doesnt take too long to find parking nearby in this neighborhood.
New restaurant opened up last year. Second time here and still really impressed with brunch menu. Service is also great. A quiet place to have chitchat with friends or have meetings.
Michelle was amazing! Great service and awesome food. The cornbread benny was phenomenal!!!
Great service, delicious brunch and cocktails!
Came out for brunch. Cute little spit. The food was good and came out quickly. Will definitely be back.
Not only was the food here good, but the service was also phenomenal.
This is a great date spot. My fiance and I had some brunch. It was lovely
Creative dishes with the flavour to back it up! We live out of town but will definitely be back the next time we re here. Thank you for a great meal!
Delish! We will gladly be back!
Went for a brunch date. Was really loud to due to a bridal party. Service was slow, food was mediocre. Had the French toast, it wasn t very flavourful but portion size was good.
We came here to celebrate my friends birthday last month. The owner is friendly and attentive. Our appies and meal was flavourful and delicious. Great ambiance and we loved supporting this local treasure. We ll be back for sure
This place is so amazing, Brad was a great bartender! Hes so knowledgeable and recommended all the right things, the oyster mushrooms go hard. Hes so pookie. The only thing Id change is that he back bar not having lights, you have such a beautiful space and selection but the lack of lights showcasing the bottles just makes me want well spirits because I cant see my Options. Love you bye. Also cézanne was so good, great service as well.
Came in last minute got seated right away. Drinks and food were amazing. 10/10
Calm, pleasant, enjoyable experience with excellent service. Dietary restrictions: Good GF options Food : 5/5 |
It was great experience. Me and my girlfriend went there and the food was fantastic, the owner is amazing host and very helpful to answer the questions about the menu
Absolutely great experience - beautiful, cozy space and excellent service. Food was delicious and our server was great about accommodating allergies and making recommendations. The smashed cucumbers were addicting! Will be back!
So to start off we have been wanting to come for a while but the hype calmed down quickly it seemed after opening so we had forgot until last week. To start off the food we got was all pretty good. Loved the mushrooms, tartare was one of the better ones in the city besides the portion being extremely small for the price when compared to other high end restaurants in the city, The Gnudi could use seasoning but still tasted really good. We would have gotten more but the menu really didn t have anything that jumped out especially for the price. That s what I want to get to next. The menu needs to be printed, it s a super awkward read and for a restaurant aiming to be higher end having everything in one tiny book is weird. The ordered was super weird and having brunch, lunch, dinner, and dessert on the page and not very uniform made it less appealing. Then the atmosphere, it was very reminiscent of its past life but some nice updates, what was rough was walking in to staff all together on the far side of the bar and on phones texting. (Really kills the vibe that is being attempted). This spot has tons of potential but from our experience and what we have heard from friends it is the little things that make it not be a must try again in town. Hopefully some tweaks can be made but will definitely come back to try brunch
This might be the best food I ve had in Edmonton. Ricotta fritters, broccolini, smashed cucumber, steak, all 10/10. Service was a bit slow, but they made up for it checking in for feedback after each dish. You have to eat here! Food
Food was VERY BELOW AVERAGE. The lemon pancakes consisted for 3 small 4 round pieces - a drop of sour cream and a drop cherry confit. Very bland tasting and one of them was under cooked and raw. The corn bread eggs benny was terrible. The corn bread was dry and tasted like cardboard. The potatoes were clearly over fried and not edible. Very disappointing. The aubience is TOO LOUD. No dividers, no furniture to absorb sound. It was very difficult to have a conversation. As per other reviews on this site, the servers did the BARE MINIMUM and seemed very disinterested in good service. The reviews on line and definitely exaggerated about this place being good. Finally - how can this place not even have lattes for brunch ?? Stale old coffee. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. VERY POOR OVERALL.
May offers a delightful brunch experience in Edmonton with its delicious food selection. The flavors are top-notch, ensuring a satisfying culinary journey for patrons. However, the service falls short of perfection, with inconsistencies noted. Despite requesting sunny side up eggs, receiving medium-cooked eggs was a disappointment. Additionally, the initial cleanliness of the table upon seating could be improved. Nonetheless, May remains a solid choice for those seeking a tasty brunch outing in the area.
Every bite was exceptional, genuinely! Highly recommend the oyster mushrooms (huge portion, excellent umami), the smashed cucumber (nice fresh bites to compliment the meal, lots of dill) and the chicken drums (topped with perfectly crunchy candied almonds). All around excellent meal, will definitely return!
Unique eggs benedict on a gluten free vegetable fritter lightened with mint and greens. I really enjoyed how this combination allowed me to feel indulgent and yet not weighed down. The atmosphere is certainly more upscale which can be great for a fancier brunch, but would be even better for an evening out. Service was excellent. Staff was well educated about dietary restrictions, menu options, and willing to ask the kitchen for any clarification required. There were only a handful of veg/GF options including the veg fritter egg benny and shakshouka, but if you re happy with limited menu options, you ll be satisfied with the excellent quality of food and unique flavours. Given that this place opened up under a new name only recently, it s a great spot to try something new in Edmonton if you re looking to change it up - a rare occurrence for celiacs in the city. Vegetarian options: Many as always with brunch Dietary restrictions: Few but tasty gf options
One of the best meals we have had in a long time. Great for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Do not skip the oyster mushrooms, they are UNREAL. Food : 5/5
I love May as a brunch spot for a tasteful dish in Edmonton. I tried the Chorizo Verde for $20, and a black coffee for $4. It s definitely a high scale menu price wise, but the flavours and high quality are worth it if that s what you re looking for. The atmosphere is modern and clean. I could see how it could be a bit noisy to some people with close tables, but what brunch spot isn t? Overall, I would definitely come again! Can t wait to try the other items.
Please do not support the absolute fool and liar that owns this establishment and northern chicken, he has screwed over multiple employees!
Just damned good food. Little more pricey but well worth!
Throughly enjoyed dinner at May. The baby potato appetizer was incredible and worth going just for that, but the main (the seared trout) did not disappoint. This will become a go to for me and my friends! Dietary restrictions: Easily accommodated my dairy allergy and pescatarian preference.
I came to May in the Art Gallery of Alberta a while back. I liked the windows in the restaurant and service was nice. In terms of food, I tried the Fried Chicken & Pancakes and Roasted Eggplant. The chicken had decent flavour and was tender. The pancake and sauces were okay. The eggplant was nicely cooked but it was quite bland and it needed the chickpea tagine to add a bit of the flavour so I d give the overall experience 7.8/10
the server was dismissive and honestly gave the vibe she didn t want to be there. she ruined the experience for our group.
Visited May Restaurant with my partner and Is anniversary. I made reservations well in advanced, since the restaurant is relatively new. Im not sure how busy they are typically but the venue is quite small and has approximately 15 tables and then high bar seating so reservations are probably helpful. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate but, likely due to the small size, there were times when it was quite loud and hard to hear my partner across the table. Service was great! Our server was attentive, friendly and checked on us frequently. Food was served fairly quickly. The menu is an adequate size - small bites, a vegetarian section and then a handful of meat and seafood options. We ordered the beet humus as a appetizer, the risotto and the sirloin. We each had 2 different drinks and they were all equally good - 2 house cocktails, a pickle juice caesar and a glass of wine. I appreciated the creative vegetarian options, as it can be hard to find sometimes. Im not sure what I was expecting but I wasnt blown away by the sirloin. It wasnt as tender as I expected and was a tad overcooked but, with that said, it also wasnt bad in anyway. I think perhaps I was just expecting something different. My partner and I both really loved the atmosphere of May. It was a great place to go for an intimate date night and we will likely revisit May again! * May also had a really great looking brunch menu! I, obviously, didnt get to try but I sure hope to soon.
Went for brunch, and it was very noisy. I could hear the conversation at the next table as well as my companions voices. I tried something new to me for my meal, the shakshouka. I dont think I would have it again as I found it too spicy for my taste and overwhelmingly seasoned with cumin. Service was good, but we had to ask for our coffee to be refilled.
It was very loud for a smaller space.
The food is absolutely phenomenal and the service and environment is amazing. Definitely hands down one of the best restaurants I ve have ever been to!! The mushrooms, baby potatoes and pork chop are definitely winners in my books!!
Fantastic brunch, creative menu, excellent dishes, great service. Gets busy so make a reservation and be aware of the seating time limit of 1:45. Will go again
I really wish I was here to say that May is a must visit, but unfortunately I have to mark May down on my list of never visit restaurants in Edmonton. Below I detail each dish, as well as the service we received. I really hope the owner reaches out so I can provide some more specifics regarding our service. I took my girlfriend to May tonight (Jan. 6) for a surprise date night dinner. It is our fist since we moved to Edmonton, so I had high hopes after seeing some posts on Instagram about May. I feel like I was lead astray. My partner ordered the Seeds to Harvest cocktail, which I thought tasted okay, but she did not enjoy. It effectively tasted like a juiced bell pepper in a glass which was not what we were expecting. I had a Yuzu Ginger Mule (Non-Alcoholic) which was fine, nothing to write home about. Food: - The fritters were incredibly disappointing. First off, I expect fritters to have a crisp exterior, these tasted as if they were sitting under the heating lamp for the last hour. Inside there was no element of texture to entertain you, it was just a straight up ball of very meekly seasoned ricotta. The sauce/relish was okay, but really nothing special. Would have preferred we didnt order this. - The chicken drum sticks on the other hand, were the closest thing to a light in a dark room (pun intended cause it was very dark) as the sauce and the candied almonds were absolutely amazing. The chicken itself was a bit inconsistent, some pieces were dry while others very juicy, but this is the only item I left still smiling about. - The smashed cucumber started out quite good. Good sized pieces and a decent portion. The first 3 seconds of flavour was great, but after that point, salt was the only thing you could taste. The menu had noted that there was sea salt in the dish, but it did not prepare me for what I was about to receive. I love salt, Ill eat a heavily salted bowl of popcorn all night, but this tasted like they smashed the cucumbers, salted them to release their water, plated it, then poured 2 TBSP of sea salt on top. It took away from a nice salad and turned it into something we had to stop eating. - The pork chop with braised fennel is a story in its own. Our server (more on them to follow) told us this pork chop is the therapy that you require from a lifetime of pork chop PTSD, so we were excited to order this one. When the dish was finally brought to our table, our server explained to us that they use a very high quality pork, so the fat content is higher than you would normally see, so it is intended to eat a bit more fat. I think a bit is a monumental understatement. The picture I attached is after I had eaten 90% of all of the meat. There was more fat on the plate than anything else, and I must admit, the high quality pork we were promised must be a ruse, because it was tough and not overly flavourful. I anticiapted my knife falling through the meat, but I had to saw to get through to the beautiful SpiritWares plate beneath (shoutout a great Canadian dinnerware company). The braised fennel had lost 85% of its flavour and took a workout to cut through. I know I may be coming across with high standards, but for $44 I expect my meat to have more meat than fat on it. The last note I want to share is on the service. I am not going to name which server we had, but it was easily the worst service either my girlfriend or I have received at a restaurant. If they spent their evening searching for [cares] to give to the patrons, they were unsuccessful. They were very cold, standoffish, harsh, and when we thought they were bringing out new plates for our main, they were more focused on chatting with the kitchen staff and never got plates. This is too long, Ive complained too much. The TL;DR is dont waste your money. $145 down the drain. Fingers crossed management makes some changes.
Delicious lunch stop in between meetings and a must visit for their brunch for lunch options. I have tried them in the evening - the dinner menu is well executed with cocktail & wine options from a very experienced team.
Had a company party here before the restaurant is permanently closed.
Great food, drinks, and service. Will definitely be going back!
Amazing!! Chef Bri makes her mark with stand out dishes full of flavor and creativity. The rolls, mushrooms, romaine and pork chop were stand outs. If you re looking to support local, eat well and leave satisfied this is your go to Edmonton!
Our first time at May on 124st. I had the Harissa Tomatoes which was delicious. It had a nice kick and the basted eggs were perfectly cooked. I highly recommend if you like a spicy dish. My wife had Chorizo Verde bowl which she loved. They create amazing flavours using fresh locally sourced ingredients. I should also mention that the service was top notch. We ll definitely be back to try more of the menu items!
We were previously loyal patrons of the Canteen so were very sad when it closed. Nice to see May move into the space and we had dinner there on May 26th. Both the service and the food were top shelf. One of the best culinary experiences either my wife or I have had. I would highly recommend May...you wont be disappointed. Cheers!
Went there for brunch. Was so nice and quiet and the food was amazing.
The cocktails and food were great! Beautiful restaurant with an impressive and appetizing menu. Will definitely be back!
An amazing restaurant!
First time at May on 124 street. Absolutely delicious food and generous portion sizes. The space is welcoming and comfortable. Parking: Street parking in front and across the street
Fantastic evening, great food especially the oyster mushroom appetizer!! Will be back soon.
Delicious food and awesome service. If you like pork, you should definitely try the pork belly featuring now. The risotto is also a great option specifically with the braised ribs. I also loved their pickle Caesar. Generous portions and lots of flavour. Will definitely come back.
Went for brunch and had a lovely time. My group shared the oyster mushrooms and they were delicious. I had the harissa tomatoes and it was so yummy - spiced to perfection. We finished off with an Ube pavlova (!!!) it was so yummy and light and decadent and the same time. I would love to go back for dinner some time. Vegetarian options: Vegan and vegetarian options marked on the menu! Dietary restrictions: They have some vegetarian and vegan options marked on the menu! They also mark their GF options and we re able to accommodate all of our needs!
Absolutely delicious meal, my friends and I had a great time and everything we tried was amazing. There are no change tables here though so be aware of that if you have to bring a baby with you.
Visiting from out of town, we were looking for a spot to rest our feet and fill our stomachs May was the perfect place for this. The service was warm and friendly. The food added to the service as it was fresh and thoughtful. Each dish we tried felt and tasted intentional. We left feeling renewed and eager to come back. Additionally, the prices were really good for the quality of food that we received!
Great Staff. Incredible local food.
Mercy this was good. Worth the price, and the service is that kind of fine dining service that is informal but ultra professional.
The food was outstanding which made up for the terrible service. We arrived and there were two other tables and it took 30 minutes for us to get our drinks. It got a little busier after we were seated so the service kept dwindling. It also took 25 minutes for us to get the bill after we asked. Great food though.
First time at the restaurant, great service from Brad, and the food was amazing!
I was really excited to finally try May. Unfortunately it was underwhelming. We were served burnt to a crisp focaccia with the beef tartare, so burned that I can t believe they walked it out to our table. The broccolini was also over charred. Not much taste other than char. The ricotta gnudi was delicious, as were the cocktails. 4 items (no main meat dishes) and 3 cocktails was $140 for 2 people before tip.
Fantastic meal at May 10522 124 St, Edmonton, AB T5N 1R9 Grilled Broccolini Dill honey mustard vinaigrette, pickled grapes, candied almonds Tempura Oyster Mushrooms Black garlic cream, Mexican chili, balsamic gastrique Bread Rolls Fresh herbs, garlic butter Risotto Oyster mushrooms, white wine, green peas, kale chips, grana padano added braised short rib Aged Striploin Butter basted, smashed potato, pickled mustard seeds, demi, horseradish cream Pretty space, nice service, super food.
Amazing Food. Vegetarian friendly. Great Service. Priced very well considering the quality and careful sourcing of the ingredients. Vegetarian options: Good Selection of Options.
Come!!! A delicious surprise!! We had the grilled broccolini!! Oh my. Oh so good. Charred broccolini with almonds and savoury cheese like sauce and pickled grapes!!! Really! Pickled grapes. So good! And the tempura oyster mushroom. Absolutely original and delicious. Market green salad too was tasty. Great cocktails. Great service. Definitely coming back!!!
This is the former home of Canteen - a culinary masterpiece. So when one day the place was boarded up, I was disheartened - then miraculously something new showed up, May. I eventually came to explore for brunch and ordered the Rosemary Sausage - I have no idea what was rosemary about it as the sausage seems to be drenched in some sort of Ndouja spice with very little rosemary and soaking in fat. The bread was hardly toasted and the eggs weren t the orange yolks one would come to expect from a niche breakfast kitchen. Everything was just terrible - cheap and a money grab. It was an extremely disappointing experience, the menus were laminated and bounded in a book and filthy to the touch (there is a reason, other people use a printer and place their menus on sheets of paper). This place is a hard pass for me. Glad I checked it out, but Canteen was such a glass act and this is just a con. So disappointed, they might be better for dinner and should improve their Breakfast/ Brunch offering - I sadly will never know as I think their heart isn t with culinary experience. The waitress was the cherry on top, Everything was good? - leading questions cause clearly to output such an experience. May doesn t care at all. A short throw is Wilfred s a much better option, with a creative menu and tasty food.
Great little diner! Very nice staff, quick service!
1st time at May. Definitely not out last. Food was delicious. Service was excellent
We went for brunch and we were so happy! The food was great, it exceeded our hopes. We ll be back to work through the whole menu!
Had a great experience at May! Loved the food and atmosphere. Definitely would recommend.
Really great dinner experience last night at May. The food was all delicious, cocktails were tasty and the service was prompt but not pushy. Loved it and will be back!
Had the Gnudi and Steak. Amazing. Great service. Definitely going back!
A big group of our family went here this past weekend for brunch/lunch. I had the Milk Bread French Toast and it was absolutely delicious. Our server was awesome. I will definitely be back.
We had a party of 17 to celebrate my mom s birthday. Our server was fantastic with our large group and the food was so so good. We can t wait to come back and try more of the menu.
Came here for my mothers birthday and the food was delicious. We were eating off of the brunch menu and everything was great. The chicken sandwich was perfect! Service was great. Will come again!
Decided to try out the new place in town. Service was a bit slow iPad wasn t working I believe but a well Great Caesar drink ! Food was almost perfect minus the risotto with the braised short ribs Broccolini was delicious, bread was fantastic so was the aged striploin (medium rare to perfection) and the chicken drumsticks were so tasty with an amazing flavour I love risotto and I gotta say this one was very underwhelming no flavour and rice almost tasted like water gotta work on that one I ain t Chef Ramsey but I d definitely throw that plate across the room just kidding, Lotsa love Looking forward to trying their brunch as long as it doesn t have risotto in it EDIT: I went for their brunch the other day and I gotta say it was AMAZING ! absolutely loved their brunch menu and the service was phenomenal this time around. Definitely my top 3 brunch spots in Edmonton. I gave the atmosphere a 3 because it was incredibly loud inside but that s a personal preference of course Vegetarian options: Good vegetarians options
Went for a date night, and it was wonderful, attentive staff, lovely cocktails, and delicious food. Recommend the mushrooms appy and pork chop entrée. Amazing!
Stopped a glass of wine and bites! Wild mushrooms were incredible as was our server, Taylor! Nice atmosphere and will return!
Love this place food and service is great!
The chicken drumsticks were very good. Everything else we got was very mediocre. Also the restaurant had an unpleasant odour to it which kind of threw us off.
This was an amazing flavour bomb from start to finish! Service was exceptional. Food plating was on point and the range of flavours covered the whole palate. The only constructive feedback I can offer is that it was a Friday evening and two menu items were out of stock. The menu is limited is length which has pros and cons, but when two items are out of stock that leaves you that much less for alternate options.
Definitely more on the fine dining side, and dishes are priced accordingly. From the service to the food was all great!
We had a reservation for new years eve. We were very excited about it. This restaurant was very unorganized! We waited for our drinks for 45 min. When its time to put in our food orders which took them more than an hour to come back, our server told us that the ones we wanted are already not available! They only have 4 main courses to choose from and 2 of it are sold out! It gets better, we wanted to order dessert. To our surprise our server said they cant make our order because the kitchen crew already left ! Are you kidding me? This is supposed to be a fine dining experience or so they claim. Our server Darcy is very apologetic and we felt bad for him! We left before midnight! UPdATE:I emailed the restaurant about it and they were very responsive. We have been invited back to properly experience what this restaurant is about. I will post another review after. I originally gave them 1 start but they were willing to rectify the situation and do the right thing.
Terrible service. We seated at 8:30 and couldn t even get our drinks orders in 8:58pm. Ridiculous. Not once were we asked if we wanted another round of drinks. Kept trying to get the attention of the 4 waiters around. 1/5 Food was okay. Nothing great 3/5 Ambience was pretty good, 4/5 Overall, 2/5. Disappointed and won t be returning.
Had an amazing dinning experience at May. The menu is designed in way that promotes sharing with the rest of the table. It was so much fun working through the menu and trying a bunch of the items. Every time a plate was dropped off, the table was in awe of its presentation. Definitely recommend
5 star service, 5 star cocktails, 5 star food! Our server was experienced, knowledgeable, kind, and hilarious. He recommended cocktails for my husband and I that we both LOVED. We had the scallops as a small plate to share. They were delicious. The real kicker was the gnocchi (see attached photo). I almost shed a tear at how delicious it was...Im not kidding. My husband told me he would become a vegetarian for life if he could eat this dish every day. THANK YOU MAY for a wonderful evening!
Beautiful presentation, nice portion sizes and great service. The space is nice too, lots of big windows that let lots of natural light in. Im excited to try the cocktails next time I come.
Was really excited to check out this new place I think it s been open for a couple of months. It s right at the Alberta art gallery, in a place where there was an old restaurant called zinc. We came in on a Saturday night around 6 PM and the ambiance was great, lots of candles, very romantic, the art is amazing. The menu is simple, there s not too many items, and everything is sharing. I thought the value was really there with the size of the plates. We definitely ordered way too much I think if you did to appys and two entrées for two people you re in good shape. I always try steak tartare when it s at a reputable place, and this was my favorite There s no toast, it s on like a potato pancake, but the flavour was fantastic. We also did the ravioli which was good. But it s just one big ravioli so not great for sharing. For entrées we did the short ribs, which was massive Meat falling off the bone, with some beets and kale. It s almost the size of a pot roast so I would say definitely three portions. We also did the seafood risotto which was incredible. A great mix of flavours and a substantial portion too. For dessert we did the Panna cotta, which had some really nice sorbet and lychee. We also had a couple cocktails, they did a really nice nonalcoholic sangria for my girlfriend, and I did the old-fashioned which was phenomenal. Also if you re a wine person, they have an extensive wine list with some really interesting wines. Quite a few by the glass and I was impressed. Definitely a place that you have to go!!
Absolutely delicious! We just ate here for a special Valentine s outing (we had the tasting menu) and it was the best meal we ve had in ages. Services was great, cocktails were lovely and the food was superb. Can t wait to come back and try the regular menu!! Bravo!
My wife and I went here for Valentine s Day. The various courses came out quickly and the food was great! The staff was friendly, accommodating and very attentive. We were so impressed by the level of care and customer service that we received on such a busy evening. We are already planning on coming back! Thank you for such a great evening.
Had the 5 course set menu for Valentines Day and it was delicious! Service and drinks were top notch as well, will definitely be back!
great experience at May! All the dishes were flavorful and beautifully plated. Great brunch place, reasonably price and very generous portions! The service was also amazing. Even though they were busy, our server was still very attentive to our table.
The Restaurant is located inside Edmonton Art Gallery of Alberta. I went for dinner and they have good selections of shareable plates. My partner and I ordered wild mushrooms, beef tartare, beef flank steak, and squash gnocchi. Squash gnocchi was definitely our favorite out of all the dishes! On Saturdays, they do brunch from 11:00am-3:00pm with a free admission to the art gallery. (Deal ends on June 30, 2022! So check it out sooner than later!)
So happy to see a restaurant in the former Zinc space . Beautiful food, beautiful space, amazing staff
Very nice atmosphere. Service is nice. The chicken risotto is great. I would like to add a bit pepper on. Caramelized cauliflowers are yummy. The fries are huge. Its not crispy. It tastes like baked potato.
Great food and great people! Thank you. P.S. Love the name of the restaurant. :)
Hit and Miss. Date night brought us here before the symphony. Nice ambiance and a great walking location. The restaurant is clean and the staff were very pleasant. We are always tempted to try beef tartare. I thought it lacked a nice mouth feel and accompaniment. (We are used to getting some crostini with this dish.) the crisp on the bottom of the plate quickly absorbed too much moisture and the full egg yolk was a little much. We both enjoyed the eggplant. I m not normally a fan of chickpeas, but the ample amount of peas were mixed with olives and played well. The risotto fritters were good. The tomato and orange jam was more like pasta sauce. We also had the scallops. I thought four small scallops was disappointing, but the girlfriend really enjoyed how it played with the leeks and squash purée. Do yourself a favour and get the baguette. It was buttery, garlic gluten-y goodness!
The food was delicious . It was nice and quiet (early evening), the chicken tostado dish was our favorite . It was freezing cold in there though, which spoiled the great experience, and had to dash out earlier than expected. Overall loved the shareable platter concept .
Such an amazing dinner date experience at Restaurant May every dish was so delicious and creative!! from the locally found ingredients to the table, Chef Doreen crated this magic show to satisfy my eyes, my feelings and my stomach!! Highly recommended Restaurant May to everyone, also don t miss out to try some beautifully designed cocktails!! Our server Darcy was such an gentleman, very patient and polite!
Half eaten salad shown because it was so dang delicious. Fabulous food, nice room, people need to know.
Amazing food and service. Definitely going back...
We very much enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. The server was wonderful and attentive. The food was delicious and creative (although arugula seemed to be in each dish). My drink was a little uninspiring, but I only tried one. I will definitely go back to try some others!
Incredibly small portions and overpriced. Pictures attached are the untouched dishes served as they were. Grilled lamp chop and scallops were average. The star of the show was definitely the squash gnocchi. But just look at it, the entire dish took 6 bites to finish. I genuinely don t know how people can eat at this place without feeling still hungry at the end.
I was attending a conference at the Art Gallery and popped in to May for a business call and a coffee. The staff took such good care of me to ensure I was in a quiet spot, not disturbed, but with a full beverage. Olivia, my server, was very professional and took such great care of me. Flaivius also made sure everything was perfect! THANK YOU!
Enjoyed a wonderful brunch today for a friends bridal shower! It was absolutely amazing! The host was able to go in early, decorate our table, and bring in her own cake. The waitress was incredible! She was attentive, friendly, and really went above and beyond when she created a delicious refreshment just for the occasion!
Had a great time !!
Our meals were both a visual and taste delight. We shared the seared tuna and almond yogurt cake. Both were delicious. We have never encountered haskap berries which were delicious. I had the Arctic char and my partner had the flank steak. We thoroughly enjoyed both. We are on vacation and this is our last night in Edmonton. What a great way to end it. Nice atmosphere and great service. If we re ever back in Edmonton we ll be back.
Great lunch spot. Wonderful ambiance and the food was original, delicious and fresh.
My sister took me here for my birthday lunch - a great choice!! Our server was knowledgeable & gave us the perfect level of attention - & she makes a very good Hendricks dirty martini!! My sister had the pan seared scallops after our server let us know that they had run out of the pre-made chicken risotto (fresh would have taken 20 min but nice to be offered the choice!) & a small order of the fries, which were comped (nice!) & perfectly cooked - piping hot, just the right amount of salt & not greasy! I had the sandwich of the day - a citrus chicken on fresh toasted sourdough bread w/micro greens, pumpkin seeds, apple & bit of some yummy mayo mixture served with a small green salad with a perfect balsamic espresso dressing. I found the portions, though not huge, to be just right - I m not looking for huge chain-restaurant portions of mediocrity. So many different textures & flavors - we ll definitely be going back!
Well executed food and drinks in a beautiful room.
Lots of cool small plates to share and delicious cocktails. No physical menus which an older couple next to me struggled with. A bit pricy but good atmosphere and experience.
Fantastic restaurant! The space is absolutely beautiful and the food was delicious. I ve only tried the brunch and lunch menus, but I look forward to coming back for dinner. The mushroom toast, in particular, was incredible. At the time, weekend brunch also included admission to the art gallery. I m not sure if they still do this, but it was a great bonus!
Opened only a few months ago at the end of 2021, this restaurant is still not that busy. Id like to keep this as my own secret but at the same time I want it to also be successful and sustainable. This super cool ambient upscale dining spot is attached to the Art Gallery. Lots of concrete in the infrastructure and beautiful paintings adorn the walls. We have been here on both New Years for brunch and this past weekend for dinner. Their food is contemporary fusion with some Asian flair. Its become one of our faves in YEG and we have a big list of establishments in town. The food is creative, fresh and the room has such a good mood. Make a visit. You wont regret it. Addendum: Have dropped the food rating to a four star. The quality seems to have changed somewhat in recent months with the departure of their precious chef. Nevertheless...still worth a visit. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options on the menu.
Cant say enough good things about this restaurant. They brought something new and fresh to the edmonton food scene. Seriously recommended.
I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. The best food and service! 1000% recommended!
We visited after Dine at May had only been open 10 days and it did not disappoint. In a city with so many deep fried foods and poor attempts at local/fresh cuisine, Dine at May finally delivers what we ve been looking for. We had 4 shared plates, 2 mains and two of the best desserts I ve had in a really really long time (s more & panna cotta). Chef Doreen Prai came out to chat with us while we waiting on dessert and discussed cooking style, local sourcing of ingredients and her take on the menu. I am so excited to have a great new local/fresh/delicious resturant to go to before or after a night at the Winspear or Citadel. Service was friendly and prompt, prices were reasonable and the food was excellent.
Amazing meal! Great ambiance, service and beautiful setting. Close to the Winspear and Citadel for a before or after bite.
