Local French featuring wild game and fresh fish , seafood! Best buy wine list, romantic, cozy , relaxed atmosphere.
Normand’s is hands down one of the best dining experiences in Edmonton! The food is absolutely incredible, from their perfectly prepared wild game dishes to the fresh seafood options. Everything we ordered was beautifully presented. Special shoutout to the owner, Normand, for adding a personal touch to the experience. You can tell he’s passionate about providing top-quality food and service. If you’re looking for a place that offers amazing cuisine and an unforgettable dining experience, Normand’s is the place to go!
Normand wasn’t there the night we visited (very unfortunate!) But foods and services are perfect ad usual. Always ordering their roast duck. It is their must try item from their menu. Wild game menu is here as well. Found this hidden gem back in 2016 and it’s be our to-go for anniversary. Always recommend this location to friends and families. Semi-formal French restaurant but people are awesome.
Delicious, lives up to the name over the years. Exquisite! Flambee desert was amazing! I thought the bananas were going to come hot and flaming and way softer but who cares when the caramel rum sauce is THAT good!!! Elk and boar bison was amazing
This was our first time visiting Normand's. The service and food were excellent: The escargot were a bit acidic (due to tomatoes), but the shrimp and scallop appetizer was amazing (sweet and well-balanced). The Bison ribeye was perfectly cooked and the seafood bouillabaisse was outstanding. They gifted us an awesome dessert for our annivesary...so good! The dining room is small and they don't encourage soft-talk, so it was rather loud. Also, they kept cleaning supplies on one of the middle dining tables. We will return and recommend Normand's.
We had an amazing dinner to celebrate our 16th anniversery. All of the food was prepared to perfection and the kitchen was receptive to the food restriction I have( immuno surpressed). We went mid week and the resaurant was about half full. I cannot recommend the bison steak enough. Thank you for makeing our anniversary special Normand. Can't wait to go back.
Normand’s has been on my bucket list forever and tonight we finally made it in and it was phenomenal. The food, the service and the atmosphere was outstanding and we will most definitely be going back. Our waiter Jeremy went above and beyond to take care of us and I thought I had fine dining experiences before but, Normand’s takes it above and beyond to make you feel at home. The food is like nothing you have ever experienced and we definitely had a hard time deciding what we wanted lol.. If you have never been to Normand’s and you are looking for a new restaurant to try than this is definitely the place to go.
Went with my family to celebrate our parents 60th birthday. Had an absolutely wonderful time! Server was very good, took a picture of us at the table and printed it out for us right there! Food and portion sizes were excellent. An incredible place and will be going back to try more of their menu!
Better than expected, however the room is dated. Was expecting less from this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by most dishes. The game and meats are definitely where it’s at with the pate being a disappointment and the French onion soup was a watered down mess. As mentioned our group had the pate (meh) the French onion soup (horrible), the rack of lamb (yum), the duck (yum and huge portion) a steak (yum) and the special of special which was boar/double bacon/elk which was good. Service was spectacular even with three very large groups in the restaurant that night. Definitely get the sticky date pudding for desert though. Was a brilliant finish
Normands opened their doors to a private affair to honour my father upon his passing - Normands was one of my dads favourite restaurants. From the planning phase through to the execution, it was perfect in every way. The night of the event, the restaurant was beautifully decorated, tables perfectly set and our guests commented over and over how amazing the food and service was. I cannot recommend Normands enough - THANK YOU!
Only amazing things to say about Normand s! The food was delicious, the wine recommendation was spot on and the service was exceptional.
Excellent atmosphere and service and if only the quality of the cooking was to match! A little bit like a Ramsey story potentially great ingredients but the cook would benefit from some advice. We had the duck. The portions were a little too much but also overcooked. The leg was ok but you have to take more care with the breast. It is likely it was frozen as it came from Quebec and that makes it drier. Anyway a a disappointment as the reviews were good and we we had high hopes!
Amazing food, atmosphere, and service. First time here, will definitely be back. Haven t had such a tasty food for a very long time. Highly recommended.
This place is an institution. Food is absolutely excellent. Their service standards are very high. We had a new server which came with some bumps but they more than compensated for it. You can t go wrong eating here.
Always a great experience!!!
Thank you for the lovely evening we were able to spend with you. Thats how gastronomy works. Food was delicious. The entire team, including the managing directors, were warm, courteous and professionally excellent. Thanks
Super nice and cozy restaurant in the middle of Edmonton, Norman is a first-class host, it was a pleasure for me Thanks Jerry
Been here many times, never a bad meal! We always enjoy coming to Normands. Particularly love the game meat options. Food
I discovered Normands when I moved into the neighbourhood 35 years ago. It became my go to restaurant to take family, friends and business associates. When I moved to the NW part of the city, it was still top of my list for special occasions. On Saturday, my husband and I were here for our anniversary. It did not disappoint. Ive had everything in the menu at least once so I ordered an old favourite, the chicken and shrimp curry. I was even better than I remember. My husband had the New York striploin, done to perfection.
Fantastic food and service. We had a group of 7 and we decided to do a tapas style sharing of all the delicious dishes, and were not disappointed!!!
We ordered roasted duck, and salmon. Roasted duck cooked well and delicious. Glad we tried it. Foods are quite pricey. The server was kinda unprofessional of picking up his personal phone call & walked away in the middle of serving us, and when he finally returned, there was no apology either.
Great food and service. Highly recommend!
First time eating at Normand s, overall everything was fantastic and would recommend to anyone to try their fantastic service.
Had good cocktails. The food was decent for the price.
Excellent food , drinks and service. Made celebrating a birthday a memorable experience.
We celebrated a birthday and everything was excellent! Thanks for making it so special! Jeannette Food
Went here for my 30th birthday, the service was amazing and he recommended us the special, which was a T-bone bison steak. I received complimentary dessert as well and the price was reasonable for fine dining. I would definitely come back here for another special occasion!
A great little place in Edmonton we wanted to find something with great food and a decent price and we found it. The food was great and the service was top notch.
Very enjoyable evening. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent.
Was only in to buy a gift certificate, owner was very pleasant to talk to. Menu looked good. My employer eats here regularly, will try it out another time.
We went to try Bison steak - which is very nice but it s not too different from beef, a little more tender my friend said. The accompanied veggie was nice cooked with butter. We had smoked salmon as appetiser and the portion was great as they offered bread too. Then the clam chowder soup was also satisfying and the raspberry torte is nice too. Lots of wine choices - asking the professional waiter for recommendations turned out to be the right thing to do. Cozy and warm old-fashioned bar restaurant feel. Recommended!
I have been going there for over 30 years. Everything is excellent, the atmosphere, the gourmet foods and the service. I highly recommend this restaurant. Food : 5/5
Delicious food, amazing staff. Pricey but with every penny!
Everything was amazing!! Thank you so much Curtis and Normand
Absolutely fantastic. The owner was the host and served us, great guy. Food was outta this world. The salmon, the steaks, we had a great team dinner tonight. Parking: Plenty of street parking
Its one of my favorite places to go. Normand and staff are always friendly. A romantic ambiance where the food is always outstanding. The meals are well crafted, and the choices always suit every craving you did or didnt know you had. I look forward to the next time!
Had a fabulous time ! The food was exceptional and the staff amazing. You will not be disappointed going to Normand s . There is a reason they have been around for such a long time . They are very good !
Fantastic staff. Norm is a great guy, and the food was delicious. What stood out is there Wild game cooked to perfection
We would like to thank you again for a wonderful Valentine s Dinner. As always Normand s never ceases to impress. The food is always top notch, and service is second to none. We re always made to feel welcome during our visits and greatly look forward to our next one.
We had a great meal from start to finish. Everyone was welcoming and accommodating as well as super knowledgeable about the menu. The food was so delicious, will definitely be back!
The food is just fantastic, both the meat and the vegetables are fresh and cooked to perfection. Wonderful service too.
Normand s was an exceptional experience!! The service was great, they were kind, thoughtful and extremely accommodating! I had the New York steak! It was delicious and made to perfection! Loved my experience at Normand s
Omg what an experience..thanku again everything was soooo good
Another fantastic meal with a wonderful wild game menu! Thank you to Norm and staff for making my sons 18th birthday a special one, he loved it!
Exceedingly pleased with the service here. The servers are very nice and helpful. As busy as they were, they found time to check on my table frequently. I watched them treat every customer walking in with respect, care and attention. Will certainly be back.
MUSHROOM SOUP, you must try their awesome MUSHROOM SOUP! The last 2 times Ive gone Ive had it as a starter, next time Im not going to mess around and just have it as an entrée and a main (mind you I love soups and thats my all time fave). But everything Ive tried in the menu is amazing. The staff is great recommending depending on what you like
Excellent experience. Normand takes great care of the restaurant and every guest. The food was truly incredible! We had the specials and everything was cooked and flavoured to perfection.
If you re reading this to decide on if this is the place to go for your meal, do it!!! The food and service is exceptional!!!
Over all, I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed by the experience. The wild game was alright, but everything else was super lack lustered. Maybe French cuisine isnt for me. I was expecting to be blown away, especially at the price point of $45-$60/a main. We also tried the escargot, which was just okay it wasnt bad, it wasnt good it was just meh. Flavour seemed just lacked the rich and savory flavour you would expect to get from a good escargot...It is such a staple of French cuisine, it was pretty shocking to get such a lifeless rendition of escargot. For mains I had a special which featured 3 types of game meat. The meat its self was good, but everything else on the plate was just boring. It was all something I could have cook better myself... just a standard side of steamed veggies with nothing added to it. What a shame, to have such quality meat followed such a basic and boring side. We also tried the wild boar ribs, the meat seemed to be flavourless like it hadnt been marinated, but had a sauce added for flavour. A portion of the rack seemed to be bad or had a odd flavour. And again everything else on the plate was underwhelming. Just veggies with nothing elevating them. They also came with scallop potatoes, but again, underwhelming, at least it added some flavour to the sides, but again something I could have made myself better... I cant justify eating food that is about on par with home cooking at an expensive restaurant, I wanted something MORE!Unless you are really really into wild game, I cant justify coming back here, unfortunately. They either need to step up their dishes (especially the sides!!!), or drop the price point way down. The portions werent really that big either, the rib portion were okay, and the game I guess I can justify seeings as there were 3 different types of game meat, but still... for a $58 dish... I am not sure I got the value I was looking for or the quality I would expect at the price I paid. The services was okay. Seemed friendly. However, we mentioned to him that the escargot was underwhelming and not great, and he sort of just shrugged it off and moved on. He also, didnt address the fact that the wild boar was barely half eaten. You would expect a Did you not enjoy the meal or Was there something wrong with the food. Nope. Just took it and left and that was it. I wasnt expecting any sort of comp or anything like that, but, read the table. You can obviously see there was an issue. I dont wanna harp too much here, because like I said, this place isnt bad, it was just underwhelming and had some issues, which maybe could be overlooked had it not been priced at such a prestigious level. The atmosphere was pretty decent, but you need to drop the covid walls... It is totally killing the feel of the restaurant. It is unfortunate that you were forced to invest in them, but put them in storage.
An understated yet elegant spot for excellent wild game. The service was friendly and attentive and we had a lovely evening here.
All the good reviews are spot on. Normands is the epitome of class when it comes to serving great food and memorable experiences. Not only did we leave with a photo souvenir that night (taken and gifted to us by Normand), but with full bellies and happy taste buds. This is the perfect restaurant for high quality food for a reasonable price. We had the escargot stuffed mushrooms, fish special, seafood pasta, and the roasted duck. Everyone agreed the dishes were as tasty as they sounded. Accompanied with a bottle of white wine, banana flambé, and dessert wine to finish the night off. Looking forward to testing out more food and drinks in the future. Side note: the coconut butter provided to us with the bread starter was to DIE for. Normand kindly gave me a small sample to take home with me. Dietary restrictions: They were able to accommodate a garlic and egg yolk allergy (for all meals!)
Not sure how this place earned such a high rating. The escargot was watery, so I doubt fresh and had a weird flavour. I made a comment to the waiter and he didnt seem phased. I ordered the pork ribs, which were also watery and outside of the barbeque sauce lacked any flavour. I would suggest ,as there was only one cook in the kitchen pushing food out (the place was half full) I doubt much that there was any fresh to order prepping going on. Even the veggies lacked seasoning (salt). The food was way over priced for what was plated. For that price I would expect presentation, since flavour was as challenging as it was that night. I would recommend the going to the Keg over this place as you will get far better value for you money, as my wallet would argue, along with my palate, it does balance out here. Save your money... I think they owe me a star, as I would not give one by choice. Im sorry I was very unhappy.
Valentines day was a little disappointing this year. waiter seemed to be in a very big hurry, my steak was very poor quality, no bernard callebaut chocolates or no special complimentary desert for celebrating our special anniversary. charging extra $ to share a menu salad is tacky. been coming for over 30 years, may not be back
Normands is a great place to dine for a special occasion. We had the French onion soup to start which was delicious. I ordered the New York steak and it was cooked to perfection. My wife has the filet and the lobster which was also very delicious. Our server was very polite and funny. After our dinner, they offered us a free dessert for our anniversary which was very classy. We had the Sticky Date pudding and it was the best dessert Ive ever had. Parking: 7-8 spots in the back.
This is my top 5 restaurants of Edmonton The specials are always to die for, the great Normand himself will serve you with first class service, and its a delightful atmosphere for a date or a night out with friends. Dont miss this spot. It has its own parking downtown, thats just a bonus.
It s a great no-fuss yet exquisite place. Normand will treat you as guests in his own house, with delicious food and great selection of wines. They might need to add a few cocktails, though it s not a deal breaker for me. Looking for an evening like in an Woody Allen movie? That s the place!
Always a favourite! Great food, service and atmosphere. And great value Food : 5/5
Fantastic place for a nice night out. The game meat was absolutely delicious- smoky, fatty, charr-y. Mm mmm mm.
Normands is my favourite place to eat with friends. The service always has us smiling and to top it off with amazing food, wild game especially, is what will always make this place a go to for me and my friends.
Wonderful service, excellent experience. The food were really good!
Great food and service!
Such a great little restaurant in Edmonton. Fine dining at its best. Great menu. The seasonal wild game special is fabulous. Mouth wateringly delicious. I love the Saskatoon berry sauce.... So good. Reservations should be made in advance as it is a popular location. The pricing is a little steeper than your average restaurant but the food is so worth it. Ive lost track of how many times Ive been there over the years but the atmosphere and and food have always been excellent. Do yourself a favor and check out this little hidin gem Parking: Parking is mostly on the south side accessable through the alley as well as limited spaces in the alley on the east side of the building. Parking can get sparse during busy hours. Kid-friendliness: Children are welcome but may not appreciate the menu choices.
Normands is exactly what you would expect - old school, quaint and with a menu that literally hasn t changed in 34 years! Finally went! Loved the atmosphere, service was excellent, food was what I would expect from a menu that hasn t changed in 34 years! Everything was nostalgic and tasty (aside from the mussels - the sauce was funky - not to my taste) and the date was delightful! I don t know if I would go back super soon, but I definitely enjoyed my experience !
awesome bison steak, and the service was great...my meal was good and the meat was cooked to perfection...and dessert is lovely....a place to remember...
Great time, very affordable. Awesome stall amd tasty food !
As usual, this place has the best food and the best service. We love this place.
Four of us went for to Normands for dinner last night. It was the first time that any of us had been there. We were all very impressed with the whole experience. The food was exceptional, the ambience of the dining room was perfect and we had the pleasure of Normand himself being our waiter. It will now become our favorite place to go for special occasions. Thank you, Normand and staff for a wonderful evening.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Normands and I can confidently say that it was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. My wife and I were there to celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday and we were blown away by the exceptional table service and the quality of the food. From start to finish, the entire meal was an absolute delight. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, making sure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal to the fullest. The ambiance was cozy and intimate, making for a perfect setting to celebrate such a special occasion. Now, lets talk about the food. Wow! The food at Normands Restaurant was truly top-tier. Every dish we ordered was expertly prepared and beautifully presented. Each bite was bursting with flavor and made with the freshest ingredients. We could tell that the chef takes great pride in their work, as each dish was a work of art. Overall, I cannot recommend Normands Restaurant enough. If youre looking for a truly exceptional dining experience in Edmonton, this is the place to go. From the incredible table service to the unbeatable food, you wont be disappointed. Thanks for making my mother-in-laws birthday celebration so memorable!
The lobster bisque was sublime... If I could have gotten away with licking the bowl I would have!!! Lol Food : 5/5
Without a doubt my favourite restaurant in Edmonton. My wife and I have been going to Normands for years and celebrate our special occasions there. Outstanding food, outstanding service.
We have been dining with Normand for 34 years. Recently he hosted grandpa s 90th. He personally looked after 16 of us all night. Service and food were excellent. So rare to have such great personalized customer service. One of the best restaurants in Edmonton a hidden gem try them.
A great restaurant while visiting I n Edmonton. Fine dining and great menu. The seasonal wild game special is delicious. Reservations should be made in advance as it is a popular location. The pricing is a little steeper but the food is worth it.
We were rescued tonight by Normands! We had a reservation at another restaurant that fell through and I called Normands and was able to book a table right away. The staff here is impeccably friendly and professional, and the atmosphere is so romantic and unique. The food is amazing. I didnt expect the portions to be so generous for the price! I had the bison carpacio (easily large enough to share) and my parents had the escargot. Both were incredible, and the carpacio in particular paired very well with our wine. For an entree I had the wild game feature dish which included elk and boar. YUM! And for dessert I had the bananas flambee which was phenomenal. This was our first time here and it will certainly not be our last! There were so many delicious sounding entrees that I am eager to try. If you are planning a nice dinner you should visit Normands! Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating for a gluten free diet!
The food is ALWAYS top-notch ! The service is amazing... probably very easily the best place to eat in edmonton You WILL NOT leave disappointed! Parking: Its normally pretty easy to find parking but when its not .... ITS NOT
Lovely evening for Fathers Day.
It was an excellent experience! Thank you!
Beacon restaurant food is very tasty and anchor staff is very nice
It was a wonderful experience for me and my husband tonight! Everything was great and all the staff were so nice and welcoming. The foods were delicious and we enjoyed it a lot totally recommended
Wonderful place and the food is very delicious. Amazing people, they were all very friendly, extremely hospitable and very nice. They even took a picture of us and printed it since it was our wedding anniversary. This made our night even more memorable, 100% recommended
By far the best restaurant experience I have had, the food was amazing, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was great. Had one of the best meals of my life. Highly recommend giving this gem a try.
not too bad
always a fantastic dinner at Normands
Always love coming here with my wife. friendliest staff, great food, and awesome atmosphere. The Bison Carpaccio is amazing as well.
Seriously! How have we not been here before! Normands has been in business for 34 years and our first visit this evening. Beyond spectacular! Food, service, ambience .planning our next visit already! 2 chefs calmly and proficiently preparing exquisitely created amazing delicious delights! Superior service even suggesting properly paired wines and even the Owner chasing us after to ensure we had a great evening. :) Keep doin what you are doin Normands! See you again soon!
This wonderful restaurant just keeps getting better with age. The front of house staff and the kitchen staff are incredible. The food is unbelievable, every time! And the namesake? Well Normand is an incredible restaurateur and his restaurant is a true gem!
What a lovely place. We were looking for a unique dining experience and we were not disappointed. There was an old world charm to the place and the hospitality was incredible. Normand was so engaging and had the perfect suggestions for our meal. We felt like guests and not customers. We are only visiting Edmonton so I m not sure when we ll be able to drop in again, but we ll recommend it to those who might be travelling through. Thank you so much.
Great food !
It never ceases to amaze me how special this place is. Normand accommodated a special event for our family and personally took care of us. The food was excellent as always. Theres a reason this restaurant is still thriving, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to share with family and friends.
Great home style cooked food and awesome service, reasonably priced.
We had a dinner yesterday to celebrate for me and my girlfriend anniversary. Food was so fantasitic, mood is romantic and people were so gentle, nice and professional. We had a wonderful time! I really reccomand you to visit Normands resturant when you want to have a memorable evening!
I havent been there in more than 10 years. Its still fabulous..
The best place ever, the food is amazing and the owner is still as graceful as ever.
Always satisfied with the service and food there. Four of us turned 75 this year so we decided to go to Normand. We are always pleased with the food at that restaurant.
This truly was an amazing experience for me and my family. Great setup, local owner, and real ownership of the operation on behalf of Normand. The food we ordered came out hot, and plentiful, the Mediterranian Salad i ordered was amazing, as well as the chicken pasta, my brother had the 16oz Bison Rib Eye, and it was top notch. But above all, the atmosphere was cozy and family oriented. Great place.
Amazing food, super staff and a great evening! Hats off to everyone involved!
This is seriously THE best restaurant I ve been to all around. The food, the cozy atmosphere and by far the best service. The menu has something for everyone and has many different selections. We now have a favourite date night restaurant. You have to try this gem!
Extremely disappointed. Very blah food, cranky waiter. Dont ask for feedback and then get nasty about it! The food has no flavor! $50 steak definitely not worth it. The Keg has much more bang for your buck.
Normands. The food was fantastic. We came with some picky eaters. Based on MY recommendations. It did not disappoint. The value for the experience was outstanding. I & everyone at our table will happily return again & again. Also the service, being able to call and book a reservation hours before the resturaunt opens for the day was a very nice, personable experience. Thank you Normand. I walked into your resturaunt 14 years ago, without a reservation. You made an incredible lasting impression. THANK YOU!.
Had a great time, the waiter was excellent. The Wild game goulash was fantastic, that was the venison and kangaroo steak.
Its always an awesome experience at Normand. The food is spectacular Food
Amazing restaurant with the best food and staff !!
Always a wonderful experience. We have been patrons since 1991 and have been coming here ever since. Norm and his staff are exceptional and warm. The food is just outstanding, always. Without a doubt, a crown jewel in the Edmonton food scene.
The service here is fantastic and food was pretty good too! We came for our anniversary dinner and had a wonderful time. Dietary restrictions: We do not drink alcohol and the staff were able to accommodate our dietary restrictions and found alternate solutions to cook the steaks and mussels
Always impressed with the service and food, its amazing!!
The best mushroom soup I ve ever had. I could eat it every day and never tire of it.
Always exceeds expectations, every single time I bring my wife here. Wild Game Menu 23 was amazing. Ive always picked the special Game menu and have never been disappointed. Wife and I have been coming here since 2014. Service is great, food is absolutely one of a kind. I honestly cant say enough great things about Normands. Plus, you get to meet the owner himself! Always a treat. Our #1 Restaurant.
The bison carpaccio was delicious! Did not taste gamey but quite rich and flavorful!
Amazing everything was perfect I swear my taste buds were melting when I tasted the rabbit my life will never be the same.
Best duck dish in town. Service is great, food is amazing. Great atmosphere! Love everything about it.
Booked my bday dinner here on a Tuesday night. The restaurant seemed quite busy but we got greeted and seated promptly. The only hiccup was that they sat us at a tiny table right by staircase close to restrooms a bit offensive for a birthday dinner that was booked 2 weeks ahead of time. I should have requested a window seat or something back then but assumed that giving a nice table was a common courtesy for special occasions bookings made ahead of time. We did ask if we could be moved and they did so within 20 mins or so to a slightly better table facing the kitchen. We decided we won t let this stop us from having a good time and therefore enjoyed very much the rest of our dinner time. The food was excellent! My duck was absolutely phenomenal! Service was prompt and very friendly. They complemented my dessert which was very sweet. Overall rather good experience! We ll be back!
From start to finish our dinner was wonderful. Staff was warm and cheerful. Normand was on the floor taking orders and chatting with customers. The wild boar ribs made us groan and we soaked up the sauce with bread to get more of it. The wild mushroom soup was delicious. The onion soup impressed the boyfriend who hates onion soup. I had rack of lamb and loved it. It melted in my mouth. Boyfriend had the elk/bison/kangaroo. Very good, the kangaroo was unlike anything weve had before. I also found a new favorite chardonnay.
We have been celebrating New Years Eve at Normands for many years but due to the current pandemic situation we opted for takeout and created our own event. The food was the best ever--many thanks to all who created it. We look forward to enjoying dining in at Normands again in 2022.
I was impressed by the quality of the service especially to find out that Normand himself serving my table!!! He was absolutely amazing, the timing of serving the food and the way they care about every small detail to make you comfortable and happy. Regarding food, it was delicious and something new I tried. Their menu has a lot of good options and I highly recommend their seafood selection. I would definitely come back and great job! I would recommend this location
We celebrated a friends 30th birthday and our whole party was blown away with the evening we had at Normands. Tricky to say what we loved better: the food or the service. Normand and Curtis are incredible hosts and their kitchen creates delicious, creative meals. Its really special to be seated at a table when youre in the hands of complete professionals like these two gents. All five of our appetizers and mains were off-the-charts good. Our only regret of the evening is that we didnt visit Normands earlier in life. Thanks for an incredible experience!
Amazing food and service.
Made reservations for valentines day. Made it to the restaurant and they didnt have my reservation. Very unprofessional.
To start, the staff at Normands was great. Who i would assume to be Normand was there making rounds, checking that everything was good at each table and that patrons were happy which was sweet. Usually it would annoy us greatly, but Normand was quite respectful and not too chatty. The food varied from very tasty, to not great. First point i want to make, is the food and atmosphere of the restaurant itself (especially the food) was very outdated. Normands needs to spruce up the atmosphere and moreso the presentation of food, it looks like presentation hasnt changed in a while. We had the valentines special, which came with shrimp to start. I dont know where they got this shrimp, but it was delicious. The shrimp sat on cut up romaine, a pretty outdated presentation. Still delicious. The salad was very basic, still quite yummy, though the dressing didnt taste made in house. The bread with butter, the butter was quite tasty and it was made in house. Our main courses were okay. I got the bison rib eye, medium rare and it was still consistently bleeding and was more like a new york strip. For the price it was and the sides i received, i definitely feel it was a rip off. It was Not tender, not fatty, not tasty. Marinating any meat especially wild game which can be not as tender is so important. The dish came with steamed vegetables and potato gratin, the potatoes didnt taste fresh, they tasted like there was an onion based sauce, it would taste much better with a garlic based sauce. And the steamed vegetables were literally just steamed, no salt, butter, oil of any kind. My humble recommendation (because i would like to see Normands around for another 50 years yet) would be to steam the veggies and sautee them for a minute with some butter, salt and some type of spice of the chefs choice. And also, to choose a new butcher to get the bison from! My husbands lamb was good, again it came with the exact same sides, which we unfortunately didnt enjoy. For the dessert, fruit fondue, presentation could have been much nicer, it was diced fruit and a bowl of chocolate. Delicious, but i wish it was elevated (figurative) and presented in a sexier, fresher way. Also... Get rid of those slivered almonds! This review is long because we really liked the people of Normands and some food items, and want this restaurant to succeed. I hope someone there reads this review and takes some of these things into consideration! Normands has the potential to be a great restaurant by elevating and sprucing up restaurant and especially their dishes. Thank you for your time.
Celebrated my in-laws birthday at Normands and it was excellent from the beginning to the end. Although the interior of the restaurant was a bit too old and my husband and I were a little worried about the quality of the restaurant at first for that reason, the food and service were above and beyond. The server who took our reservation ensured that we would get a nice table, and actually took care of our table on the day of our reservation. He was professional and had a great sense of humour! We couldnt stop laughing every time he checked on our table or came to serve our food. The dishes we ordered were well-balanced and flavourful. The birthday dessert was on the house and served with a candle and a Happy Birthday message. The server also took a picture of us with their phone and printed it on the spot. Thanks to Normands for the unforgettable service and special memories!
After 33 years of going to Normands, its still absolutely amazing. The Mushroom soup is still the best we have ever had and we have tried every one at all the restaurants weve been to. Hands down the very best!! I highly recommend Normands the food is truly amazing and the service is always top notch!!
The quality has dropped significantly unfortunately. Service is still fantastic
I havent been to Normands for over 15 years. I pass by it almost weekly. Back in the day, Edmonton has a handful of higher end dining establishments of which thus Jasper Avenue haunt was one of them. The last decade especially has seen a boom in Edmonton in dining establishments that offer contemporary and fusion cuisine from all over the globe. As such, its becoming harder to find top end restaurants that do meat, potatoes and veggies the old fashioned way...simply but with some extravagance. I was told Normands has been serving edmontonians for over 30 years. They must be doing something right in a very hard food industry to still be standing the test of time. The location is the same as is most of the decor. You know youre visiting an old friend when you step through the front doors. You can feel the vibe...history and tradition. The food is exactly as I described....extravagant and timeless. The service was so engagingly wonderful. I gave it five stars because Normands knows what they do, they stick to their lane and they do it very well.
Took some senior business colleagues out for a post-conference celebratory dinner. Food was perfect. Its been a couple of weeks and after meetings Im still getting complements for our choice of restaurant.
I just left an awesome evening here. The food was spectacular all around. Service above and beyond. I hadnt been here in years...and I was not disappointed. This is definitely a place to make a great evening out. One word. GO!
An excellent experience with the group for a graduation. From the moment we arrived I felt like family and the food did not disappoint. Everyone shared their portions with enthusiasm. Will be back!
I had the pleasure of speaking with Normand and planning a dinner with all my friends for our graduation. I m glad to be able to say that it was the best restaurant experience any of us have had. Food was spectacular and the service was amazing. The fact that they were able to accommodate 28 of us with split bills is a feat in itself. I will be coming back and I urge anyone to come here as well. Thank you to Normand and his staff for hosting us!
Never disappoints
Fantastic experience, the food was beyond my expectation and the service was superb.
Amazing food. Really you need try just ones and it s will be your favourite place. Service good too.
We LOVE LOVE Normands! This is by far the best restaurant in the city for food and service. The owner, Normand, is a very special man and his passion for his restaurant shows in every interaction. This is the place to go for any special event or if you want to treat yourself because you will leave feeling like royalty. Love Normands!
Visiting from the States. Fantastic restaurant. Delicious food and great wine. Our waiter, Curtis, was the best ever. He was hilarious and lead us to the best items on the menu. We hope to be back some day. Thanks y all!
Decided to try this place for our anniversary and it was a let down. The place is extremely dated and old with super uncomfortable chairs. The service was okay, but nothing special. I would call it semi attentive. There were large gaps in between table visits and I had to wait quite a while to get another beer. For appies we had a mushroom crustini which was very tasty. She had a butternut squash soup that she enjoyed. My French onion soup left a lot to be desired. The broth was almost clear and didn t have that richness I was expecting. For the mains, I had the wild boar ribs and my wife had a seafood dish. My ribs were cold or room temperature at best. The side was about 6 slices of scalloped potatoes with some vegetables. The veggies were pretty much raw. Disappointing for a $50 plate. My wife enjoyed her seafood but again, the sides were raw and inedible. The owner bought us dessert on the house for our anniversary which was a nice gesture. We went with the the sticky date pudding and it was really good. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience considering the cost.
By far my favorite restaurant in Edmonton. Normand is like family to our community in this city. The food is fantastic, every dish Ive tried I loved. The service is on another level. They make us feel spoiled. Its honestly like nothing Ive experienced anywhere else and its consistently like that, every time. The place has been around for so long it feels like its a historic piece of our city, its very comfortable and has a very classy atmosphere. Places like this are rare, especially around here. Its underrated even at 5 out of 5 stars because the service is just on another level.
Normands is an old-school treasure. Classic menu, great service, excellent food. A little pricey, but worth every penny.
The elk was so so tender, we had special dietary requests and the server went above and beyond to accommodate our requests. Service was awesome and the food was amazing. Everything was cooked perfect. It was a great evening...
Took my mom for her birthday. She loves wild meat and seafood. Must say best dining out in a very long time. Must go back
Excellent atmosphere, able to have a conversation without yelling. Good and service was incredible. Highly recommend it!!
I honestly wouldnt have known about this place if it wasnt for the internet. Its a smaller, cozy restaurant, nice atmosphere and ambience. The owner was our server, and you can tell hes had years of experience, hes fantastic at his job. He kept our drinks topped up, continually asked how our food was, and managed to hold about five different conversations with various tables with ease. The food was excellent. Both the portions and quality were top notch. My girlfriend had the fish dish, I had wild boar ribs. For a starter, we shared mussels and shrimp. The sauces are out of control. Theres strong French influences, with heavy cream, fine herbs, wine and shallots. The fish had a creamy dill, and my boar ribs had a saskatoon based BBQ sauce. The sides had perfectly cooked veggies (squash, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower and carrots), I had scalloped potatoes while she had mixed wild rice. Both meals were nicely balanced, cooked well, and tasty. The portions were large enough that I cant write about dessert...there wasnt any room. I always tip 25% when service is exceptional. In this case, there wasnt any thought on my part. Not only were we taken care of, he offered to take our picture, proceeded to print it out without telling us and gifted it to us as a memento. How cool is that? You absolutely cant go wrong if you eat at Normands. Well be coming back!
Me and 5 of my other buddies came from Regina and this has to be one of best resturants ive ever been too. Fantistic food and the best service you could ask for.
If I could give this place Michelin star reviews I would! This place is the #1 place to be in Edmonton! Between the amazing Customer service, the superb food and the personal touches the owner himself made towards making our anniversary special; I am beyond touched! I will definitely be back to Normands the next Time I am in Edmonton! And I would highly recommend this Place without question!
Beautiful dinner, great service and a complimentary dessert.
Last night my husband and I had a beautiful birthday dinner at one of YEGs most beautiful long standing restaurants. French cuisine, wild game, and seafood are their specialties. Weve had the pleasure to try their breakfast/brunch when they have been available, but never their dinner service. Drinks included a glass of White Zinfandel ($11, brand Beringer) and the Jamaican Party ($13, 2oz) off their martini list. Appetizer included a half ounce order of prized white truffle oil, and their aged balsamic with house-made bread. Soup choices were their Wild Mushroom Cream ($8 cup) and their Baked Thyme Onion ($11 bowl). Dinner included their: Wild Game Featured Dish (Seared Wild Boar Bacon, Elk, and Bison; served with mixed veggies, and scalloped potatoes); and Lobster, Scallops, and Jumbo Shrimps Mornay ($49). For dessert we both ordered a hot chocolate ($4.25), the Terrine of Sorbets ($11), and the Coupe Normand ($12, came free with birthday dinner). At the end we had our picture taken by our server to keep as our own. Peter our server was amazing through the whole dinner service, and the bartender and chef were amazing as well. Truly an unforgettable experience.
Old world charm and ambiance. Service was impeccable and friendly, thank you Curtis. Food items are beyond delicious. And well presented. See you again soon. Thanks for having us.
Went with family groups of ten and everyone enjoyed their meal and the friendly service. We are adding this to our list of places to visit more often.
Everything we ordered was soooo good. Service was impeccable.
Fabulous dining experience! Food & service was incredible!
Excellent food all from sou to entre and desert
We had a very nice dinner at Normands. The speciality dishes were very tasty. Wild board with Saskatchewan blueberries sauce and Fish with shrimps Including the bread with a very nice spread and fresh green salad with cherry tomatoes and red sweet peppers. We had Californian and French rose wine to accompany our food. As dessert we had a delicious sorbet with champagne. And finally two decaf lattes. The ratio quality / price is just right. Normand is a very nice funny host. We really recommend this restaurant for special occasions. Two Thumbs up!
Amazing dinner and fantastic service! Great place to host a small party for 8! Parking: Few spots in the back of the restaurant Recommended dishes Bison Carpaccio, Shrimp & Scallop, Wild Game Special
Amazing food and amazing service, you feel like family in a fine dining establishment with food to die for. Get the lamb!
Excellent local wild game menu including venison elk, bison, prepared with exquisite sauces a beautiful menu of fish and seafood , poultry, water fowl, great selection of fine wines, delicious desserts, reasonable prices. But to me what crowns this hidden secret gem of Edmonton s finest cuisine, is the outstanding hospitality from Norman himself and his staff. I have been enjoying this most pleasant experience for the past 6 years, and was never disappointed. I ll never get tire of it.
Still one of our favourite restaurants. The waiters are all amazing and the food is always delicious.
A wonderful place to stay with your friends. Also a traditional restaurant other than very fast food restaurant that you will not disappointed with the real style of life should be. I love this restaurant Parking: There were some free parking lot but still limited by the number
A must go if visiting edmonton. Amazing service with amazing food. Couldnt recommend more
What dinning out should be like.
Excellent food and service. Great restaurant.
Excellent food, excellent service. What else can I say?
Outstanding. High quality food. Personal attention.
Absolutely amazing! The food, atmosphere, and overall experience was 10/10.
Normands was fantastic! I organized a work event here this past week and the food, atmosphere and accommodations were AAA+ Highly Recommend! Definitely one of Edmontons hidden gems!
Excellent food, great service. We all really enjoyed our meal!
Great place to enjoy a plentiful, delicious meal. Ambiance is enjoyable; quiet, peaceful. Waiters are professional and knowledgeable. Have enjoyed both times weve been there (just ourselves and then with another couple) and would definitely recommend. Parking: Parking can be an issue. Park at the back of the restaurant or in the alley beside it.
Visited for the first time for our anniversary and we were not disappointed! Never even heard of this place before, but based on their (well desevered) high TA status, we thought wed check it out. The owner was actually doing a lot of the up-front work, checking in guests when they arrive, checking on tables, etc which ws nice to see. We gathered that he has a lot of repeat customers, and probably has for years if not decades. The food and service were fantastic, and there was a lot of interesting items on the menu (kangaroo and elk steaks!). We will be back again. Thank you!
We had a perfect evening celebrating my husbands birthday. The food was outstanding. If youve never been you must go at least once. Its one of Edmontons little gems.
Everything was awesome our server, the food, and even a visit from Normand himself:) You get a real sense of pride from all the staff and it is clear that the chefs take their work very seriously. Three of us couldn t have been happier with the total Normand s experience. This is now my go-to spot for great food and atmosphere. Great menu and a chance to try something that we don t normally have access to like elk and boar, and several other domestic meat options for those who do not want to try something new. We sincerely appreciate the passion and quality that Normand s delivers. Just Fantastic! Try to save room for dessert;) trust me.
Fantastic experience. Service was wonderful, food was great, serving size was more than expected. Would recommend!!
Very very very run down and dated. Not at all what was expected from online pics. Original tables and chairs that seemed not to be new in 1989. Very crowded small space, made a servers station from a table in centre of restaurant with saniter sprays next to water jugs and wiping clothes. Not at all handicapped accessible, steps everywhere, but old building. When reservation was made I was asked the occasion and told dessert was on them. The portions were fine, the game meat cooked well if not inventively, though significantly overcooked. The server didnt know what anything was he served. We were never asked the occasion when we were seated, owner/manager asked how everything was when we had a bread basket. The dessert and coffee was exceptional. The fig pudding and chocolate raspberry torte excellent. Definitely one of the best restaurant coffee I ever had. Dont offer to comp something and dont do it, follow through is everything. It seemed full of regulars, good for them, but as a first timer no idea how they got such a high google rating. Overall, decent if uninspired offerings, with poor service, uncomfortable venue and terrible ambience. Parking: Very limited, on street availability. Wheelchair accessibility: Not at all accessible. Steps everywhere.
Exceptional atmosphere and the staff are equally as high caliber. To say that the food is amazing would honestly be a disservice as it is by far one of thr finest meals I have ever had the privilege of experiencing.
Went there for the first time. Had an amazing dinner and my server was so nice. The food is a little pricey but you wont be disappointed. The portion size is huge and everything was delicious!
Incredible food, incredible staff and great ambiance. Have been here 3-4 times and have always walked out feeling like we have had a great evening and been treated like family or friends.
Amazing is all I have to say
Norm is always in hand to take care of you. Always an experience coming here. Thanks Norm for always being attentive and ensuring everyone has a great time there.
World class environment, service and food.
One of the best French restaurants in Edmonton.
Celebrated moms Birthday and we had an awesome experience from the foods to the amazing staff. I love the photo they gave us as a souvenir and her birthday dessert is on the house which is a lovely gesture from the restaurant.
Excellent food, excellent service. Love the sticky date pudding
We went to this restaurant after having an amazing sample at Taste of Edmonton. Every bite of our dishes was absolutely delicious, and perfect portions - not too small and not overwhelming either. Very cozy atmosphere and lighting, and the staff was so very pleasant and helpful. So polite and kind. We will absolutely be going back here! Thank you for a beautiful experience!!
We came here on the last day of our Alberta trip. My boyfriend really wanted to try exotic game meat, so I thought I would give Normands a try. It was Saturday September 18th and it was exceptionally busy. Nonetheless, the service was impeccable. We had a waiter named Glenn, who was attentive and funny. I was very impressed with the service and the food. They had provided complimentary bread, but the butter was infused with cranberry. oh my goodness, so good. I have never had butter like that before but I was impressed. We also ordered the 10oz Bison steak and my hubby got the Wild Boar Bacon, Elk and kangaroo as it was the special for the night. We were blown away! not even gamey tasting at all. It was super flavourful, and the space that went on it paired well with the meats. I couldnt believe that it tasted almost similar to steak just leaner and lighter. definitely one of the best meals, weve had in awhile. My hubby has never been the type of person to post food on social media, but you bet he did with his dinner at Normands! What a great way to spend our last day in Alberta. I would definitely recommend to all my friends and family in Ontario, who may be travelling to Alberta in the future! The first picture is the bison, the other picture is the kangaroo, wild boar bacon and elk.
Great service, good food. Appreciate the personal touch.
Incredible food and service. The owner and the staff are so welcoming providing exceptional service.
My fiancé, son, and I had a wonderful experience at Normands. From the time the reservation was made until we closed the evening, it truly felt like we had been welcomed warmly into a friends home, and treated to an assortment of fine food and skilled chefmanship. Our service was absolutely delightful, and we left with a sense of joy, gratitude and a meaningful measure of humility. Merci beaucoup, Normand, Peter et Derek. -Kelly
Food is fantastic service was great great place to bring loved ones and family
Excellent customer service! Very attentive and kind courteous service. I came here for my birthday and was given a birthday dessert on the house. They wrote happy birthday on it and added a candle. They took a photo of us and printed it off for us! Such a nice touch.
Best birthday supper ever! Absolutely loved the take home photo from that night as well. 10/10 recommended
Has always been, and certainly remains one of Edmontons best fine dining restaurants. Not over priced and wonderful ambiance. We went for a mussle night... absolutely the best !!!!
Very lovely place.. tasty food ! Best service Printed a photo for us cuz of our anniversary. Very very recommended
Amazing place to go for a date. Food was great. the atmosphere was awsome.
Had the wild game and it was spot on. Norm as always provides a excellent dining experience.
Loved it! Such a fun family Birthday night! Amazing fun and staff. We even got a picture of our table for our memories.
Amazing service, ambiance, food and dessert. Forget Ruth Chris and the Keg. This is my new favourite steakhouse. The owner is present and very welcoming. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful meal at Normands. I brought my daughter here to celebrate a special event and it didnt disappoint. A local fixture for over 30 years now and its easy to see why. The food was excellent. Everything from the starter, to the mains, to the dessert was expertly prepared and delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful. They provided us a great understanding of the menu options and made helpful suggestions.
Excellent food and staff
The best liver i never had, melt in your mouth sooo tender. All the food we tried was sooo yummy. The service was top top. If you are french you can be served in french too. The harmorny of the restaurant is just perfect if you want to relax and disconnect of the stress of life, also perfect place for couples if you want a romantic and calm supper with your partner. Cant wait to try another things on their amazing and various menu.
We went here for a birthday on Saturday. The food was to die for and the portions were large! We were lucky enough to have the owner as our server, he was so friendly and had great recommendations for what we should have to eat. There is a reason why they have been open for over 30 years.
The owner is fantastic, super nice man and the food is simple but yet complex. The basic protein, vegy and starch meal combo but with nice flavors that makes the food quality shine. The Lamb was great and I had it Medium which I would recommend for those who usually get well-done, the lamb since its a such a quality meat the Medium is perfect.
Food is tasty, service is excellent, and the food servers were jolly and awesome.
Good food and great people
Just celebrated 65th birthday with dinner at Normands. Everything was exceptional, from service, to food to atmosphere. Its been way too long since we were able to enjoy a long time favorite! Thank you to Norman, our host, and Peter, our very pleasant, able and solicitous server! A lovely experience all around. All best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year. Maggie.
Staff: AMAZING!! we were celebrating our anniversary and they made it so special, thank you!!!
