Otto is a local meeting place, specializing in house made sausages (Fuge Fine Meats), craft beer and craft gin. It is our aim to support small businesses in our community. Inspired by the Cafes in Amsterdam, we aim to create a gezellig (cozy, warm, welcoming) atmosphere to spend time with family and friends. There are no TV’s, and the music is quiet. Come and join us for dinner, drinks and an amazing evening.
We went to Otto a while ago, with my 2 little kids and 2 elderly uncles. The atmosphere was very welcoming. Everything was so delicious, the portions were very generous, and the schnitzel was humongous. The best part was the owner, who came to our table and took my son is his arms to show him the kitchen (my son won't let any stranger pick him up so this was miraculous). It was one of the best restaurant experiences we've ever had. We will definitely be back when we are in the city next.
Had a family dinner for my grand daughter's birthday. Mom, dad, 10 year old, 3 year old and an almost 2 year old. We made reservations and they had the table set for our arrival. They gave the two oldest coloring books and crayons on arrival. The waitress was.VERY attentive and made time to talk to the birthday girl, which she loved. The plates are large enough to share and we took boxes home. The fish and chips are amazing! The youngest loved fries that were dipped in curry ketchup. The red cabbage was delicious. The schnitzel was also very very good. Everyone loved their food. Extra special was when they brought out a creme brulee with a lit candle on it for the birthday girl Loved it. Thank you.
I didn’t understand how a place with this many reviews could sit at 4.8 stars; a feat that’s difficult for any restaurant. I finally got my answer. What I came here expecting: -Excellent sausage What I got: -Excellent sausage -The best fish and chips I’ve had in the city -The best mac and cheese I’ve had in the city -The best fries I’ve had in the city The restaurant also has a great ambiance, with lovely medium lighting, rich wood furnishings and music that doesn’t drown out conversation. We were also blown away by the price of everything, which was extremely reasonable for all the food we ordered. Owners, if you’re reading this: please do not change a single thing with your existing recipes like so many other places. You managed to hit the nail on the head for every single thing. Please keep it that way. You have something rare and amazing.
I enjoyed my first visit to OTTO! I selected a variety of sides, bread and a lovely drink. The House Salad was very tasty and was quite dressed up with cranberries, feta, lentils, etc. The fries were crisp and light. The Mac and Cheese was a bit too cheesy for me, but still nice. My Sour Cherry Italian Soda was really good. The $2 bread was huge and very good value for money. Even better than the food was the great service and the intimate atmosphere of the restaurant. There was plenty of on street parking available. I left the restaurant comfortably full and am excited to return again to try the pretzel.
We had a roaring good time at Otto on the weekend. We were sat in their gorgeous garden patio. Our group ordered one of every sausage and nearly all the sides. Food was tasty and well seasoned! The feature sangria was a big hit to top it off. PS if you’re lucky you may get to bump shoulders with a local politician!
This place came highly recommended by our friend and our dining experience did not disappoint. The atmosphere provides a laid-back yet elevated place to gather with friends and share in some great food and conversation. All three sausages we tried [Otto, maple sage, and Thai green curry] were phenomenal, tender, and flavourful. The smoked Mac & cheese was the favourite side, but the potato salad and the curry fries were a close second. And the owner came over later to check in on our meal and we enjoyed some great conversation with him as well. We can see why this is our friend’s top pick for a place to frequent. 10/10 on all fronts, a gem of a restaurant in Edmonton with a great vibe!
Highly recommended. We have a fantastic experience and meal. The Patio was full so we were seated a cosy both and were fortunate to get Ella as a Server. We took her suggestions for both Beverages and Food. My favourite was the beer brine schnitzel. Near to end of our visit we had the please of meeting one of the owners. Highly recommend and will be back!
This is our second time and it was still delicious! My friend said he will definitely come back again for another kind of sausage. I enjoyed the atmosphere and service very much as well. Book your table ahead of time and I recommend the braised red cabbage! It is really good!
This is an awesome place. I wish them a lot more success in upcoming days.
Such a great place to eat.
The schnitzel sandwich remains an elusive catch as I didnt know about it on my last visit and it wasnt available this time, for Octoberfest. Garden space expansion makes for a transcendent food heaven retreat during the summer.
I came twice thusfar and have been blown away ! First time I arrived, my friends and I showed up without a reservation on a busy Friday evening. The staff managed to find some seating at a communal table for a quick meal before the next set of customers with a reservation were to show up. Staff were communicative between us and the other waiters. They informed us of time restrictions/expectations right at the door, so we could decide if it was the experience we wanted. Once seated, we were promptly set with menus and drinks. The staff checked up on us in a very timely manner so we could slide in our orders while they were still hustling and attending to a full house. Unfortunately, there was an error in ringing our orders through, and both our waiter and the restaurant owner came out immediately to apologize. Owner said that due to their error would allow us to stay where we were and enjoy the environment, instead of rushing though dinner or changing seating. They checked up on our drinks, and told us our food would be out in about 25min. In the meantime, staff kept up their pace to stick to the reservation that the next customers booked. A few guests were politely asked to make a small shift for some space, while the staff quickly cleared and prepared the bar. When the customers with the reservation arrived, they were promptly seated with cutlery, water, and glasses already waiting for them. Our food was on the table within 40 minutes from sitting down despite the hiccup (kept to the time they gave us as well), bravo ! The restaurant was buzzing with conversation and laughter despite what the staff was working with. It shows that Otto knows how to run their business seamlessly through mistakes, and place their guests first by treating them with consideration and respect. We had a full platter with sausages and sides (the Otto, Bavarian, and Jerk Chicken sausages, potato salad, mac and cheese, and coleslaw). Each item was delicious and well made. The spices in their sausage, the chill of the pickled items, and clean presentation of the platter all seemed carefully tailored for both a feast of eyes and the mouth. The tavern-esque atmosphere with shared food made for a cozy, intimate, yet lively dinner. We had a *WONDERFUL* experience, and never once felt rushed or treated any differently than if we hadnt placed a reservation. We were able to soak in the experience, and we enjoyed it so much I brought a new friend a few weeks later due to the great first experience. We came on a less busy evening, and the food was just as great, the energy just as welcoming, and staff just as attentive despite the slower pace. To me, the consistency in quality of the entire experience shows some real dedication and care for the work they do here. I cannot stress how effectively their staff work together as a team, how communicative and respectful they are, and how hard they work on a busy night. The effort in friendly service, handling errors with grace, and fostering great vibes despite stress... top notch Otto has jumped way up into one of my favourite places to eat, despite only being here twice so far. Thank you for the wonderful place, people, and food. I look forward to my next visit!
Definitely a hidden gem the area is not the best but the. Restaurant was great
Nice atmosphere and great food. Kid friendly too.
First visit: saugage was not warm Second visit: Could not get draft beer we requested because of a problem with the lines, although the table beside us got it ten minutes later after they fixed the lines, fish was in deep fryer too long and the batter was hard and gross. Waitress said it was her second night and had no idea of what the restaurant offered. Third visit: Draft beer was warm, not room temp, actually warm. Only 2 tables in restaurant and they messed up our order. We called ahead to find out when Schnitzel night was and when we go there we were told that the Schnitzel bowl was the special, but still charged full price for the beer that was advertised at a lower price on feature board. Fries were hard and cold and Schnitzel was rubbery. Mac and Cheese was dry, likely from over microwaving, as they brought fries instead of the Mac and Cheese ordered, so the Mac was rushed. Waitress had no idea what was going on as it was only her second night working at Otto. Very disorganized and did not appreciate listening to staff in kitchen discussing their lives...kinda destroys any atmosphere. Not going back and will never recommend.
Try the Schnitzel Sandwich, its delicious! Wonderful atmosphere and Great service from Tess this afternoon, very helpful!
Amazing food and service was quick, funny and accommodating. Had party if 8 and there was no problem accommodating.
What an amazing restaurant, the owner is a beauty, the service was excellent, and most importantly the food was unreal. If you get the chance try every sausage on the menu, absolutely incredible. Thank you Otto!!!
Tried out Otto tonight. What a CHARMING location!!! Ed the owner is a darling!!! He looked after my party SO WELL, we felt like family. The servers were sweet and attentive. And the garden was so sweet. And the FOOD! And the DRINKS! Everything we tried was better than the last thing. Weve already made plans to go back, and I suggest you make plans to go!
A really delicious meal! We used to go here all the time pre-pandemic and its great that a small local restaurant is still doing so well. It was packed! We had sausage, the Mac and cheese, potato salad, pretzels and schnitzel. It was all delicious.
The schnitzel was absolutely delicious! Just as good as in Germany and Austria. The smoked mac and cheese was very cheesy, tender noodles and lots of flavour. Our family tried different sausages and loved them all and the potato salad and pretzels were also very good. We will be back and I highly recommend! Food
I like big sausage and im not picky;) So thats what i got here. Some different big sausages. The fries are good too but having my date put that sausage in and around my mouth was exhilarating. Teasing me with that big old meat. I was stuffed before i left. I was stuffed later to;) I highly recommend coming here. Tad pricey but the service. The experience. The food. So good. I recommend the pretzel as well. Also the potato salad. Its stellar.
1st time there got food poisoning from undercooked sausage, brought it up with the owner, was told this shouldnt happen (obviously) and that they temp check every sausage that comes out of their kitchen. Aside from that, nothing was done to compensate me for my literally shitty experience. I may have been back, but that was enough for me. *pic not me just to give a specific idea of what it was like for about 3 hours of that night*
Otto is a little gem thats in an out of the way location. It has good fish and chips and the service was excellent. I found it quite cold inside but thats just me. The parking is along the street but you shouldnt have to walk too far. Its a fun little place to meet!
A diamond in the rough! Great food. Great atmosphere.
Great atmosphere, extensive drink selection, food menu designed for sharing!
Had a lovely selection of sausages and sides and sat in the garden. Service was impeccable. Will absolutely return. Hope the Brussels Sprouts are available next time!
great meatballs
Cool spot. Nice vibes and friendly staff. Nice place to stop in for a unique bite.
Drove by this place so many times seriously regret not going sooner. Amazing food, fantastic cocktails and service an absolute 10/10. Nailing German cuisine to perfection. Thank you!
They got the bestest Ed in town!!
Awesome food, casual vibe. Will be back!
Just recently started going here inspite of living around the block, and wow have I been missing out. Fantastic food, great people, friendly vibe. Really nice spot. Try the schnitzel sandwich. It will change your life.
One of my favorite places to eat. Always super friendly, and good vibes!
Absolutely Family Friendly This is an excellent example of dont judge a book by the cover. When we drove up, we were very unsure if it would live up to its reviews from the family that referred us. But indeed, it was the most family friendly place we have been to for dinner. We have a 2 year old and a newborn and this was the first time out with both kids. Even though we did not have a reservation, they suggested we sit in the reserved booth, so it would be easier with the baby and toddler. They also offered to get some fries going for our toddler as they were seating us and brought over a huge coloring book and coloring box. Which was a genius move! Our toddler loved the fries and was completely entertained by the coloring. Bonus - instead of a coloring sheet and pre wrapped crayon pack, this had a more homey feel. I felt as a parent, and breastfeeding mom, that our needs were anticipated and met before we even asked or thought of them ourselves. The food was also delicious and we had a very relaxing evening out.
Food was incredible it felt like we were back in Europe. The staff was great, very friendly, and very accommodating to the 8 of us, and our baby. Very busy, and great atmosphere. If you cant decide what to get the owner will create a customer platter for you. He was very interactive, and kind. He gave us the perfect blend to try a wide variety of what their menu has to offer while giving us the perfect amount of food for our group size. Currywurst and mac and cheese were noticeably top notch!
I catch the bus outside the establishment. They are busy most of the time and have a great outdoor patio. A nice local place to go for a meal or drink. REMEMBER DONT DRINK AND DRIVE! Food
Great place for a pint, a meal, or an event. Truly cant say enough good things about the staff and owners, the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, and the delicious food and beverages on offer. Otto would be the blue print for a successful local hand out - if only it were that easy to reproduce e magic! My personal favorite is the mac & cheese - and I suggest subbing in the schnitzel sauce instead of the tartar sauce if you try their delicious fish and chips! Kid-friendliness: Lots of families enjoying a meal at dinner time, and other parents grabbing big bags to take home too!
Great place. Ed and his staff are incredible. The food is fantastic. The story of how the name Otto came to be is great.
Went there for Trivia Night with some friends and had a BLAST!!! Would highly recommend their Trivia Night, but also, the Schnitzel Sandwich, it was amazing!!!
trivia night was a blast
Excellent service, very neighbourhood spot feel to it. German dishes were excellent, Brussel sprouts were great, probably wouldnt order the Mac and cheese again, Friends currywurst was excellent, want to come back and try it. Schnitzel was great and warm potato salad was one of my favourite versions Ive had. Felt very welcome, and will definitely be back.
Most Wonderful. The food...such flavours much WoW. Had a Tequila Paloma...on the less sweet side...Very refeshing but cozy. Had the drip coffee...uh muh guh...rich and deep and smooth and tangy but sweet. The schnitzel ugh...the Otto sausage ugh...the sauce that came on the side that Im pretty sure if I asked would be butter high on witchcraft. First time having a sweet & sour pickle...like proper balance of the two...and some nice shredded subtle saurkraut yaaaaasssss great balance. Pretty fair price point. High quality. Oh...and did i mention how Freaking Gorgeous it is and how sweet the people are!!? I cannot express enough how if you have not been here you Are missing out. ^_^ Parking: Great street parking... at least in evening around 630
We ve been meaning to get to Otto for some time and I cannot express enough how glad I am that we finally made it. Not only was the food absolutely delicious (the currywurst, fries, schnitzel, and orange chocolate cheesecake being highlights), the service was unparalleled. Ed has cultivated a warm and inviting atmosphere that everyone in Edmonton (and beyond) needs to go and support! #eatwithpeopleyoulove
Over priced hot dog stand. This place is so over the top priced that a 6 inch beef braut and pint of beer 26.00 not the best service either. 20% gratuity
Came in out of the blue because I hear about this place. Did not have a reservation and were ready to leave when the owner told us that there was a no show and we got in. Menu simple, and the food is absolutely delicious. Best sausages we had in a long time. Atmosphere was relaxed and very cozy. The staff is super friendly and wonderful. We really got lucky. Next time I will remember to have a reservation, because it is busy. Wonderful place, wonderful food, wonderful people. Highly recommended.
Amazing food and amazing staff in an amazing restaurant. We went for a family dinner with another family and all the kids. Everyone truly enjoyed the food. They had one of the best fresh soft pretzels I have ever had and their curry sausage was amazing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a new stop to check out! The Mac and cheese was amazing as well. There wasn t a single dish that we, or the kids, didn t like. Kid-friendliness: We had a booth that worked great for the kids for seating. From a food perspective the Mac and cheese was a hit in addition to the garlic fires as well as the potato salad and sausages.
Great sausages. Warn Potato salad was incredible. Decent price, for the 2 of us with drinks was $95. Have food left over Food
The Best.
Incredible. Staff was so nice and helpful, food was amazing. The portions were the perfect size And I left feeling the perfect level of full. The atmosphere was so cozy and warm and I had the best time. The best meal I have had in maybe a year
A special place! Unique atmosphere. Great food (more options than the online menu). Excellent selection of local beer. They are creatively involved in the community.
This place is great - the service, the sausage, the s...ambience. Definitely check it out!
Really cool unique Edmonton restaurant! I will for sure be back to visit and I highly recommend!
We had an incredible time at Otto this evening! The food was great, there s a wide craft beer selection, and the staff were wonderful. The owner was incredibly kind and personable. We had a brief getting locked out of the vehicle incident, and he walked a few blocks in the cold to come and help. Would absolutely recommend this cozy gem!
Great alcohol and food. So happy to find vegetarian options. Food
Good food and atmosphere. Service was great. Large slection of beer.
Unreal sausages
We went for a family birthday dinner to this lovely hole-in-the-wall restaurant, hidden in a residential area downtown. The space is warm and open and the staff are friendly and helpful. The beer selection is awesome (I had a pineapple sour and tried my partners mango beer, both were smooth with a nice subtle fruity finish), which goes well with the sausage dishes. I had the vegan Chipotle sausage and vegan meatballs. The sausage was flavorful and juicy with a nice tingle of spice. The meatballs were a little crumbly but delicious and the sauce they come with made me scoop as much as possible off the plate. Their brussel sprouts side is different than most restaurants in a fantastic way. I will leave a little mystery and just urge you to order it, you wont regret it. To finish off, I had the wildberry creme Brule and I had to make everyone try some. It was smooth, creamy and the berry flavors really shone through. I didnt take any pictures because we were too busy eating everything. Please do yourself and small restaurant Edmonton a favor and check out this place. Vegetarian options: Sausages, meatballs and sides Dietary restrictions: Vegan and vegetarian Parking: Street parking in front of restaurant
Fantastic place, great food and drink, great staff, fair prices. Will return.
Otto is my middle name . no, seriously. Great place for German eats. Highly recommend going in the summer when the big door is open. Creates a real European atmosphere when you feel the summer breeze all the way from bar. The sausages are wicked good and all homemade I believe. Check it out for a schnitzel and a lager.
Awesome ! Such a great hidden find !! Great food Cool atmosphere Amazing service Cant wait to go back
Great food and atmosphere!
Great food and a great atmosphere!
Fantastic. 8 out of 5 stars. Friendly service, fantastic food, and an Alberta-forward beer menu. Sad that we waited so long to visit and we will definitely be back. The room is comfortable and casual with a laid back vibe; perfect for a summer evening beer and some tasty snacks. The welcome was warm and personal with several checks along the way to ensure we were enjoying our visit. Highly recommended. Update: back again. Still awesome.
Amazing place with a great selection of drinks and delicious food. Will be back soon!
Friendly and helpful staff, and a cozy atmosphere! This neighborhood gem is one of my favorite places to go to for beer and a hearty meal. I especially love the Otto Sausage, pickles, brussel sprouts, and the fish and chips.
Very good shareable food and service. Their alcohol/beer selection is diverse and delicious (could use a few more cider options). Very family friendly/accommodating. Their rotating specials and desserts are good with good value.
Always a treat to visit Ed and the staff at Otto for a meal.
I discovered this place when my friend advertised The Blue Jay Sessions, hosting various artists within Alberta, live music. Otto has some delicious food, great drink choices, friendly and inclusive atmosphere. I look forward to going back with a few more friends.
Went here on a Friday night with 3 friends. First time. Very busy so reservations were a good idea. We each had a sausage (individually or as a dinner) and we shared 4 sides (as well as the fries that came with one dinner). Everyone enjoyed their meal, including the vegetarian in our group (who had, I think, 3 choices of entree which I thought was impressive for an obviously meat restaurant). I had the bratwurst, which was excellent. The sausage was not large so someone with a bigger appetite might want two. Next time, I might suggest sharing the sausages as well as the sides so everyone has a taste. I recommend this place.
Service was exceptionally bad. Husband and I came with our toddler for dinner, after researching child friendly restaurants online. It took over 5 minutes for us to be acknowledged at the front. There were high chairs present, I asked for one, the hostess said sure then never brought it to us. Our main server did not make an effort at all. My husband ordered a beer, I was about to order a drink myself but then the server abruptly took our menus and walked off. She never checked on us during the meal or ask us if we wanted dessert (we did). We noticed better service geared at other tables, and could not help but feel discriminated against because we had a toddler (she was well behaved). For the two times a year we have been brave enough to take our child to a restaurant, it was a heartbreaking experience. Two stars, because the food happened to be good.
Ed is the best. If you need another reason to support this place, the food and drink is divine too.
Their beautiful garden patio is our favorite summer destination. Great food.
Great meal
Amazing food and a fantastic selection of beers. Easily the best mac and cheese in the city. Highly recommended.
very welcoming and kind staff, great sausage everytime, great garlic fries too! and its cute!
Ed is the best! Loved the atmosphere, get the otto sausage, so good. We ll be back!
Otto is one of my favourite places to eat in edmonton! The staff and atmosphere is so lovely and it makes such a difference having spaces like this in the alberta ave area :)
As a German that grew up one block away and someone who has been here multiple times in the last two years, with no issues in the past or judgemental servers. I wasnt impressed with the servers here at all. I was unable to order two drinks at the same time because I was told Pro serve does not allow it i know that s completely untrue and i was being stereotyped for my overall look. I simply wanted to have two types of beers to sample from and was treated as someone that they did not trust, which was super offensive but I remained calm and collected. I will not be bringing anymore business here.
Really excellent food without pretension, and a great craft beer list with some new-to-us gems. The sausages were simple, so that every ingredient listed came through. The nutmeg in the bratwurst was beautiful! We also really appreciated how welcome our 3 young children were. The bar made them great Shirley Temples, and the restaurant had full coloring books to loan. We all 5 loved OTTO, and will be back soon for more curry ketchup!
Came here with a work group and it was a first time for everyone. We were all so impressed with the food. They brought out some platters that had a variety of sausages and side dishes. Everything was delicious! The owner, Ed, and his staff are great. Will definitely be back! Parking: Plentiful street parking nearby.
I just loved it here. It was so delicious! I loved our server.
Very relaxing & Great Staff. Beers cold too. Looking forward to going back & trying the food!!
Excellent sausages with a mustard that had good character, crispy well-seasoned fries and fried Brussels sprouts. An enjoyable meal in a nice establishment that is well-connected to its community. Had a great time.
Great food, great people, great drinks, great atmosphere, great food (in case you missed it the first time. Ed Donszelmann knows what works and what doesn t, and OTTO works.
Neat spot! Really enjoyed the food and the drink selection. The fries with curry ketchup were extra extra tasty.
One of the best places to talk books with Natalie.
Weve been going to Otto for years now, but every time I go I marvel at the experience. Ed and the staff somehow manage to make dining there feel more like visiting friends than going to a restaurant. The food is always on point: great ingredients prepared well and presented simply. Its a wonderful place to share and be social. An even bigger treat is if you go in the summer time and get to sit in the garden. Theyre also always thoughtful and accommodating for allergies and special dietary needs. Otto is one of Edmontons gems, I cant recommend it enough.
Great food. Amazing atmosphere. Excellent service. OTTO was a fantastic find. The drink selection was impressive, and the menu was dialed in to what they do so well. We had the Italian sausage and chorizo verde, with their french fries, and brussel sprouts. I was legit blown away. Everything was prepared with care, with unique takes on classic dishes. Gormet in a way thats unpretentious, and approachable. The ambiance inside and out is as relaxing and welcoming as you could hope for in a casual neighborhood eatery. I very much look forward to our next visit!
Ill admit immediately that we didnt have food but well definitely be back. We showed up today and found the restaurant closed because of a private event. The owner, instead of simply sending us on our way, bought us drinks and chatted with us. The drinks (a local prickly pear Moscow mule and a blackberry lemon non alcoholic beer) were delicious but it was the real care the owner took to make sure we were comfortable that made this such a beautiful experience. Wed had a less than stellar afternoon up to this point and I can confidently say that Otto turned it around. The owner was even going to recommend another place to eat but we went to the Italian Centre for sandwiches. Excellent people skills and a true care for the customer. A week later: we went back to eat and it was stellar. The schnitzel was perfectly cooked, the fries were crisp, and the Brussels sprouts that my partner initially turned up his nose at were so good that I had to fight him for every bite. Great non alcoholic beer selection and excellent service. You can see the people walking in being treated like friends and family. Will definitely come back and eat here again. Thank you, Ed and Natalia, for a lovely evening.
Brought a group of 8 here (on reservation of course, don t surprise any restaurant like that) they were attentive, accommodating to dietary and age, and provided an all-around enjoyable birthday meal for my hubby and family. Thanks Otto.
Amazing locally owned restaurant that serves sausages that are made in-house! They have great selections of sausages/sides that compliment each other perfectly. Plenty of drink options and there are patio seating outside during a nice summer day! Definitely a great place to visit!
Otto has been a long time favourite of mine for a quick evening drink. Sitting in garden is a must for your YEG summer bucketlist! Also, best fries in the city by FAR but beware they are not gluten free. If they were, Id never leave. Dietary restrictions: Not great for gluten free. You can eat sausage, coleslaw, and sometimes dessert. Servers arent confident in answering dietary questions. Kid-friendliness: They love kids here!! And the style of dining works well for kiddoes. Plus, kid friendly dishes for picky eaters.
My other half and I tried OTTO recently, and its my favourite find in ages. The menu is simple but well-executed, and very reasonably priced, seeming to lean in the direction of German pub food, but theres also something very Dutch about the place. You have a variety of tempting house-made sausage, amazing fish and chips (or fish and greens), and whats perhaps the best schnitzel Ive had in Edmonton. Sides are things like pretzels, sauerkraut, pickles, salads, fries and roasted Brussels sprouts. There are also many vegetarian options, including sausages. And, they have a rather diverse drink selection with a good range of craft beers, cocktails, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. Despite being located where Id never expect a restaurant to be, its really charming. OTTO is a great place to go with a group, and loading up a board with shareable stuff. Its especially good in the summer, because instead of a mere patio they have a rather remarkable garden which is just a lovely place to spend the warmer weather, and it certainly seems to be popular with locals. The bicycle logo is quite apt, because reaching Otto is actually a fairly nice ride thanks to 114 Avenues counterflow bike lane. We went up 92 Street from the LRT multi-use path, riding along calm, tree-lined streets. Apparently improvements are coming to the segment from the MUP to 112 Ave as part of the Boyle Street neighbourhood revitalization. Everything about the place is just so well-considered. I just wish they had brunch.
Food was decent. Pretty Pricey given the portion size(food pictured was nearly 60 bucks before tip) . Sausage was unique. Mac and Cheese was pretty good. Best dish we tried was the brussel sprouts. The pickles were absolutely delightful. I think they must make them in house. I think theyre half sour dills. They have that pleasant lactofermented funk. Wouldnt make a trip to the area just for this restaurant, but would come again given the opportunity if I was in the area. Edit - I re-read my review after owner commented. I dont think 3 stars was fair for food when compared to other local offerings. My visit was pleasant, and they do offer something that other places do not. I Upped food to 4 stars. Parking: Street parking only. Fills up fast. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly. Low key environment. They have high chairs. Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs to get into the restaurant. Would be reasonably easy to get inside with a chair.
Very good serving and service! Im thinking to come back with my friends, very good taste!
Came here for food and drinks with the family. The food was amazing and tasty but for 11.50$ for just a sausage was a little concerning for me. I thought maybe it wouldve atleast came with a bun! But overall the food was actually reallt good. They got busy so maybe thats why service was a little slow. Ide also reccomend some A.C but i had a great time and plan on coming back! Cheers!
A nice place to go for dinner or drinks with friends Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating if you have celiac Food : 5/5 |
Great little place in Norwood!
It was an off night, to be sure, but not just that. The sides (fries, mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts) were far better than the sausages. My andouille was dry and dense, and all of the sausages seemed overpriced for what you got (this consensus was shared by the entire table). The fish and chips looked delicious - but I felt bad looking jealously at a fish dish in a restaurant that specializes in sausage. Our server, it must be said, was atrocious. I understand busy, but I dont understand yelling across a long table for orders when you can walk to the other side. I dont understand trying to hop over.a chair in the corner and walk behind a row of chairs that are set against a wall with a full tray of drinks in your hand. We had to tell her to stop and that we would pass the drinks down the table. I also appreciate being asked if Id like another drink before everyone has finished their mains. It wasnt just that the service was bad, the choices were inexplicable. Ive worked in the industry and I like to tip well, but paying the mandatory 20% tip (only for larger tables) was a bitter pill to swallow after this experience. There seemed to be general agreement that we *might* be back, but we werent in a rush to be sure, and definitely not in a group.
Its a small but special place, something rarely found in the city. It feels like youre in a room with all your friends. Good food and drink, good service, fair prices.
We sat on the patio - which they specifically opened so that we could bring our puppy with us. Its a beautiful patio. The service was amazing and the food was out of this world. Lots of gluten friendly options which was great, too. Dietary restrictions: The menu is clearly labeled with gf and vegetarian options.
What a great evening. Food was delicious, service was lovely, beer selection terrific. Thanks
Sat in the lovely garden. Sausage and beer tasty. Service slow
Sausage and beer and amazing staff. What more could you want?
Excellent food and a charming place! Appreciated that they accommodated our group of 7 (with kids!). Will be back soon!
You need to try this place. The smoked mac and cheese is worth driving across town to get on a cold night. Combo it with a couple European Weiners and youve got a great meal to share.
My wife and I had a fantastic dinner last night. The schnitzel was excellent. As always, the service was top notch and the atmosphere felt warm. I am already looking forward to our next visit.
The fries are really good! I mean, look, its all good, but when even the fries are great, then you know youve found a winning restaurant. It was my first time there and it wont be my last! The beer selection is fantastic, they have local beers from all over AB and BC! The last time I saw a beer menu like that, I was at Sugar Bowl. Very impressive place, come here for supper and leave full.
Cant say enough good things about this place. Hidden gem, incredible food and house made sausages, fantastic beer selection and stellar service.
This food was beyond delicious and the owner and staff were so friendly!
This is one of those rare perfect restaurants. The service is good without being stuffy, the sausage is outstanding and unique, and the beer selection is comprehensive. It is a beer hall, so it can be quite loud, but that is part of the genuine experience. Its kid friendly, but also the kind of place you could take somebody you are interested in romantically that you wanted to get to know better.
The food was unexpectedly good. Tried the Maple and the Otto sausages. Both were fresh and juicy. The in-house effort was evident. Unfortunately, the brioche hot dog buns were a miss. Not stale, and maybe intentionally bland so they dont compete with the meat. Really nice selection of local Alberta breweries on their drink menu. I look forward to returning to try out the rest of the food!
So glad we discovered this little gem. First time here and definitely won t be our last. Great selection of delicious in-house made sausages and sides. Friendly service and fabulous food. Highly recommend.
Otto is sincerely the best gem in Edmonton I ve found in forever. Their fish & chips are unreal & I discovered my new favourite pink gin drink there. Every single time I ve gone Ed has taken the time to stop by our table & say hello & it truly does make all the difference & adds such a personal touch. All the staff is amazing. I cannot stop telling my friends & family to come here. Looking forward to many more visits!
Okay
Good food and company
This was our first trip and Im not sure why it took us so long. The food was excellent, the service great, and the prices reasonable. It was full for a Thursday night, Id suggest reservations if youre going. We had 4 people and between us tried two sausages, fish and chips, and the sandwich special. All the food was great. A good beer selection with plenty of canned options if you dont like the draft selection. We highly recommend and well be going back very soon.
Its a little pricey, but the food is great, the smoked mac n cheese is to DIE for, the OTTO sausage is unbelievable, the decor is unique, imaginative and comfortable and the staff is wonderful. You gotta eat here. :)
I have never been so satisfied after a meal. I cant wait to explore the rest of the menu! Had the peruvian sausage and it was delicious. The fries were some of the best fries Ive ever had. You gotta try eating here!
A very cute atmosphere, It had cute little cafe vibes. It being a sausage restaurant I obviously tried some sausages! I tried the Otto and the Maple-sage along with some sides. The sides were the stars! The smoked mac& cheese was the best mac and cheese I have ever had. The smokiness was infused in every noodle. Herb fries were fire, normally I say why mess with a classic condiment like ketchup but wow Im glad they did. The curry was ketchup fantastic. The ketchup saved the sausages, as they were far too salty. The only taste that came through for the sausages was salt, I didnt get any taste of maple, spices or these different cheeses. Skip the sausages and get the sides.
Great food an ambience! The selection of drinks is also superb.
Food: incredible Service: fantastic Owner even came to say hi to us and our baby. :) WILL RETURN with everyone I know.
Food was great, super friendly staff
Had an excellent visit to Otto. I was looking for a family friendly location to take my young kids. The staff was exceptionally friendly to them and they loved their meal. I never had such good sausages in my life and Ive been to Bavaria during Octoberfest. Along with sausages recommended their Brussel Sprouts.
Get a flight of sausages, youll likely want 2 or 3 people with you. You will not regret.
Just a true gem in Edmonton. Wonderful ownership that cares and the food is always stellar.
Bought the chicken sausage to take home and cook - dinner was DELICIOUS!!
This place is absolutely spectacular. The food was to die for, and so so so well done. We dont want to eat anywhere else now.
Absolutely spectacular. The chef knows his craft. Great for the whole family. A perfect meal. Astonished at how delicious this was.
Edit: We returned and the evening was an absolute blast, staff, ambiance, energy; everything was just on and perfect. Chanced not making a reservation and got two cozy seats at the bar and were greeted by the owner. He came over just before we left and apologized for not coming by sooner! A very sweet gesture. Food took forever, but if you bring good company, it doesn t matter. Food was so good when it did arrive. Made for such a fun sharing evening date night. Caramel macchiato creme brulee was so good (could have eaten that in a giant bowl!) Can t wait to come back. A lovely hidden gem. Super cozy and wonderful ambiance. Stars deducted for really lacklustre, albeit friendly, service (also taking the beer can off the table and leaving the plate and then also dribbling the beer on my coat somehow.) Also, I know its the week before Christmas, but they were out of quite a few main things we wanted to order. (Sausage, and the aioli) Also for the cute bar they have...all their cocktails come out of a can. Why? The server also casually mentioned they were a gin bar... Myself and my guests really like gin. Where is that menu? Confusing, but the currywurst was divine. The fries are so good, sausage was delish, and the curried ketchup is like a chutney. Amazing. Order the side of pickles and kraut! Its cheap and a nice palate cleanser. I will be back, there were just a fair few oddities going on. Sorry to leave a less than stellar review, but hopefully my feedback is useful.
My first time at Otto tonight and I loved it. Met some friends and we shared their popular Maple and Peruvian sausages as well as Fish and chips, Mac&Cheese and Chickpea Meatballs. Everything was well executed and on point. The sausage texture and flavors are masterful. The fish fresh with a nice light batter. Great selection of draught beers, Negronis and gins. Friendly, professional servers and the owner is in the house and makes a point of visiting with everyone. His name is Ed and he s one of the most joyful restaurateurs I ve ever met. The restaurant enlivens it s neighborhood and is well supported by locals so make a Rez!
Six of us went for supper...we ordered one of every entree and shared... spectacular! Will definitely go back! Owner stopped by for a visit, love his passion
Great sausages, great staff, great value. Big recommend for any Edmonton people.
Fantastic service and even better food & drinks!!
Always good, always friendly. Some veg/vegan options and 1/2 price wine on Tuesdays!
This place was great. Cozy atmosphere, great tavern food, good beer selection.
Such great food!!
friendly staff, local breweries, chicken, pork and vegetarian sausages options
This place is simply wonderful. The food is incredibly tasty and so consistent. The service is next level. So family friendly. We always feel welcome bringing our littles here and get to enjoy a superb meal and drinks. Always a pleasure to come have a dinner here.
I have been to Otto a few times and always enjoy my visits. Unreal food, kind staff, and a comfortable vibe. You can tell the owner really cares, and that s so appreciated. I brought some friends to try Otto for the first time on a busy Saturday with no reservation, and while at first we may have been out of luck for space- he made it work and had us stay- and we had such an enjoyable meal/night. Thank you! And to anyone reading this.. go! You will be happy you did.
Me and my girlfriend decided to have dinner at Otto tonight - WOW ! We and the entire staff are exceptional. The food is fantastic. The beer, cocktail, wine and non alcoholic beverage options are lengthy and local. The garden patio is truly one of the best outdoor dining options in the city. 100% would recommend any day of the week !
Hidden neighbourhood gem! This cool spot is located in the middle of Norwood and has become a destination. Ottos menu is built around high-quality, locally-sourced sausages and is delicious. I ordered the currywurst and it was very good, sweet and savory curry ketchup and a delicious bratwurst sausage. Service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was hip yet unpretentious. Every neighbourhood needs a place like Otto!
Amazing food and atmosphere great menu options especially with all of the non alcoholic options on the drink menu ! Will definitely be back !
Spectacular! Great ambience, food, beer and service.. Cant wait till our next visit.
Great place that s close to home but the portions have gotten smaller and the prices have gone up! They used to provide a decent side of coleslaw with the fish n chips meal but now it s maybe a tablespoon worth for a plate that serves two pieces of fish and a lot of fries. It s not a reasonable portion but it used to be. When we asked for a side of coleslaw they brought a small bowl worth, something you d serve olives in on a charcuterie board. when we got the bill we noticed they charged us $7.50 for it ! Not cool Otto. Great food but pls work on this. Got two meals drinks and dessert so we spent quite a bit of money there.
Parking: Lots of free parking Kid-friendliness: Was 2 Littles enjoying supper while I was there they seemed content and tore into the mac n cheese!
Perpetually not great service, while still wanting a 20% vig.
Incredibly friendly service! John was one of the best servers Ive ever had and was friendly, knowledgeable, and down to Earth with honesty and character. The food was delicious. We ordered a spread of sausages from their regular menu as well as one of the specials for the day and each and every single one was incredible. (The Otto is my favourite!) We also ordered a couple desserts and their crème brulee is to die for. Incredibly well done, the flavours were layered well and had a lot of depth. One of the better crème brulees I have ever had. Overall with a heafty dinner and 3 desserts the bill was just over $100 which I consider to be an absolutely reasonable price for just how great the food and service was! Definitely check this place out when you can. UPDATE: Since this review I have been back a couple more times and the food and service is still incredible. Unfortunately they are no longer doing crème brûlée but the new Oreo cheesecake is delicious. Ed, the owner, is fantastic, and a wonderful soul to talk with.
Good food, even better people. The owner is fantastic and cares deeply about his customer s experience.
Meet up work friends and enjoyed some delicious food and a great drink selection. The andouille sausage and Mac and cheese where the highlights for me, another delicious sausage was the chicken and Gouda one. The brussel sprouts were also fantastic, but unfortunately the server took them away without asking if I wanted the boxed. It isn t air conditioned, so it was extremely warm inside this evening. The vegan sausage was disappointing, but the rest of the food hit the spot.
Cool garden patio. Good prices. Good portions. Good food. So so service. Quiet slow.
I love this place. It has a secret garden patio outside thats so relaxing and quiet. The food here is so fun, its all share items so makes for a special dining experience. The menu changes up every so often as everything is made in house, which makes it more fun. They always have a featured cheesecake, make sure to save room for it!! Also best part of Otto...the patio is dog friendly!!!!
Great food, great atmosphere! Lots of specials throughout the week, plus they have a cute little garden patio. Definitely highly recommend!
One of our Favorites! First time we visited was as a party of 6. We were short a few items on our order when initially served, the replacements came and we were treated to generous portion more than was missing. On another visit (for pickup during COVID) I was treated to a free pint while I waited for my food. Might also be my favorite Mac and cheese.
Delicious German fare. Fantastic service from our server Natalie
Great place! Their sausages are so amazing, tonight we did the Otto, the bratwurst, and the chicken sausage with blue cheese. All were delicious, and when you add in the wonderful sides of brussel sprouts, smoked Mac and cheese, and the pretzel bun, it was a fantastic meal. Many different beers to try also. Great job Otto!!
Ill be thinking of the curry ketchup for a long time. It was that delicious. I loved how the entire tables food was served all on one platter, but this might turn some people off. Definitely a place for those groups that like to share. The food was delicious, but perhaps a bit pricey. That being said, I didnt leave hungry and felt like I got my moneys worth. The only thing I might critique is that it would have been nice to have air conditioning in the restaurant. We went on one of the hottest days of the summer. The entire dining room is open to the outside so it makes sense why they might not have AC but this was something that everyone at the table commented on.
Killer sausages and sides! Everything tasted amazing and they even had a cute little garden with real live bumblebees
Fantastic. Beautiful space. Charming. Food was great!! Cant wait to go bk. Recommended dishes
Really liked their outdoor space..very cute, happy its Dog friendly too. Pretzel , garden salad and Fish and chips were delicious!
Oktoberfest all year around! What a great atmosphere
Second visit here which shows just how much we like this place. Great food and service. Excellent choice of beers. Well definately be returning.
I been meaning to go to OTTO for a while so l made it there last week and iam glad I did but I wished I went there a while back because it was an amazing experience and the food and drink was excellent and definitely different from other restaurants. So definitely Ill be going back.
I was here last Friday with a group of friends for a birthday. This is often our birthday spot because the food is always delicious and we all leave full and happy. Our server was friendly and helpful throughout the night and the drinks he made is were great. You can t go wrong with the Brussels sprouts, Mac and cheese, and fries. And whatever sausage your heart desires. We love Otto and hope it continues to thrive!
Excellent !great service , owner present and engaging . Great selection of local brews , best schnitzel Ive had in a long time ! Will be back Vegetarian options: On the menu and vegan included Dietary restrictions: Clearly stated on menu Parking: Lots of options out front side and near by . Free parking
Great restaurant, excellent for sharing with friends and family, while enjoying the large selection of drinks. Overall it was what you thought it was, but better.
I cant recommend this spot enough! Staff were so awesome and accommodating despite us getting there a little late (sorry!). The food was amazing and served quickly. Good choices for beer! Interior is really comfortable and spaced nicely. Id love to come back in the summer to sit outside on their benches. We will be coming back soon :-)
Nice and charming. Have a good selection of various Canadian beer and awesome sausages. Friendly service. I definitely recommend it.
Love this place!! Its a hidden gem on the way to downtown. You will not be disappointed with anything on the menu. I recommend making reservations to ensure you can get a table, they can fill up fast. We like to order a few different sausages and a couple sides to share between the two of us. Parking: Normally find street parking within a block, free parking but watch out for the bus stop thats nearby
I have been coming to OTTO with my wife and children for many years, and although I have been to almost every hot food spot in Edmonton, OTTO remains my top choice. I honestly dont even have words to describe how much I love it. The food is delicious and local and healthy and hearty without being pretentious. The atmosphere is casual, fun, and very friendly. The service is absolutely perfect. No place in Edmonton deserves 5 stars more. And, its hidden in a neighborhood that definitely appreciates its presence. Ill never forget when the owner broke his leg, and continued to work and serve tables by using one of those wheelie leg platform devices. Please OTTO... Stay forever. For dates with my wife. For dinners with friends. For family celebrations. For great sausage and schnitzel and brussel sprouts and cabbage. And thank you for being the only hip food place in town weve found that actually appreciates and encourages the presence of our little children.
Came here the other day for an after work holiday party, had never been, about 30 of us piled in. Immediately, we were set up with tables arranged in a way that worked best for us, they got us drinks right away and set us up with platters of delicious and amazing food. I am completely blown away by how awesome and incredible the staff are, I cant say enough good things about OTTO. Go give them your money and you wont be disappointed by the food or service. Will be going back ASAP!!
Very enjoyable meal in a cozy restaurant with friendly and helpful staff. The food was also very delicious. The fantastic sausages aside, the sides are also a must get, especially the mac and cheese.
Amazing service. We came before it opened and were stuck out in the cold, Ed let us in to warm up. Great drinks and amazing food. Highly recommend
OTTO has a wide variety of great local beers and both of the sausages we tried were delicious. What made our visit to OTTO truly special was the level of service and hospitality by Ed and the rest of the staff. I will not forget my experience here and cannot wait to visit again soon!
OTTO is the kind of place that makes me crave brussel sprouts!! Seriously, get them! The homemade sausages are so good it is often difficult to choose which one. Cute dining room, always great energy!
Currywurst and spicy sausages, yum. Curried ketchup was yum. Smoked mac n cheese, yum. Come and try yourself.
Great food.
